Saturn Retrograde 2024: Astrological predictions

Last Updated on October 30, 2024 by Tejaswini

Saturn is a slow moving planet and when he goes retrograde, he gets even more power to influence everyone’s lives. At present Saturn is transiting in Aquarius and Shatataraka nakshatra. He will be going retrograde from 30th June 2024 till 15th Nov 2024 for about 139 days. He will continue in Aquarius sign, Kumbh rashi, through out this time. In terms of Nakshatra transits, he is currently in Poorvabhadrapada. He will return briefly to Shatataraka nakshatra on 3rd October and reenter Poorvabhadrapada on 27th Dec 2024.

This retrograde will give you a chance to review all the Saturn things in your life. Especially the events linked to Saturn which may have occurred in your life between mid March 2024 till June 2024. And whatever efforts you put in in this retrograde time will give results at least till Feb 2025.

Before he changes direction, either ways, retrograde or forwards again, Saturn remains stationary or Stambit for about 5-10days. Stambit Saturn is the most powerful form of Saturn as he is pouring his entire energy into this one point of the zodiac for about 10days. So expect some life changing events from about 25th June – 5th July (energy release at 25deg Aquarius). And again when he changes direction in Nov 2024 from 10th Nov – 15th Nov  (energy release at 18deg Aquarius). this will be even more evident in your chart if you have any birth planets/ Lagna in Aquarius or at these precise degrees of Aquarius.

Watch my video on Youtube here.

Whenever a planet goes retrograde he gives us time to review, redo, repeat whatever he signifies in our life. Saturn is incharge of karma so events linked to him are seriously karmic in nature and cannot be fully avoided. You can reduce the impact by doing remedies on the day he turns retrograde and on Saturdays. Remedies as always are the two Mantra and Daan. Do the mantra of Saturn on Saturdays and give away the items connected to him on Saturdays in a Navagraha temple. And doing a daily puja routine is an all round remedy. Or if you understand your chart then you can intelligently modulate your behaviour to reduce the negative impact and boost the positive vibes.

The personal birth chart and its power is always important, so analyse it in depth before coming to conclusions.

  • Saturn is the Yogkarak, for the ascendant signs Taurus and Libra and the Lagnesh, the ascendant lord for Capricorn and Aquarius so he does not actively cause damage to people with these ascendants. So for these charts, the transit effect of Saturn on the birth Moon sign will be seen more on the emotional levels.
  • If you have a strongly placed Saturn, or if he has a high Ishta phal value, or if he is exalted or auspiciously placed or aspected by benefics, or is a benefic for your chart etc, then his effects in transit will always remain more positive than negative.
  • But if he is badly placed in your birth chart or debilitated or aspected by even more malefics etc then even if his transit results look good, he will not be able to deliver the promised auspiciousness in real life.
  • If you have Saturn retrograde in your birth chart then this time when Saturn is retrograde in transit can be intelligently utilised to gain in life. However patience and perseverance will be required, so get ready for committed hard work.
  • The power of the ongoing Dasha period also helps. If you have an ongoing Dasha of a benefic planet then he will help reduce the negative intensity and increase the positive results of the transit results.

General predictions. There will be heavy rains and there is a chance of natural disasters like landslides in the hills and flooding etc in the plains. The government mechanism will be aggressive and there will be strict actions against crime and illegal activities. The newly elected government is expected to take some unexpected and long awaited actions for the security of our nation. These will be welcomed by genuine Bharatiya people. And for everyone, this is a good time to plan new projects and diversify your sources of income. Especially if you are younger and capable of taking calculated risks, do make use of this energy.

The following are brief predictions for the birth Moon signs. I have highlighted just those issues which are likely to pop up in this time frame. I have divided the time into 2 phases. Phase 1 will be Saturn in Poorvabhadrapada. Phase 2 will be Saturn in Shatataraka. (In case you have a strong ascendant sign (ref Ashtakvarga) then you can read the results for the ascendant sign too. In this case you will see blend of results.)

Aries birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – will see an increase in workload. There are several opportunities here so make the most of it. This is a good time in the office. Your health will be good, you will feel confident. Family will be supportive. Business, trade, speculation all will give good results. And as always, do use your common sense and think things through before committing.
  • Phase 2 – this will be a slower time. Be careful of gossip, evil eye and jealousy as this negativity can affect your growth. Expect an increase in stress in both office and home. You must be careful in this time.

Taurus birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – be prepared to work hard. You may not get recognition in this time but the work you do now will give results later. You may get some unexpected support from your friends and like minded people. The office and home both can give you stress, so be alert.
  • Phase 2 – this time will give you the results of the work you have put in the 1st phase above. It is a short time but it is beneficial for you and so use it to consolidate. Do not take unnecessary risks but calculated risks have great potential now. Try to remain focused on your purpose as there will be small irritations at office/ home, but overall you will manage if you control your temper.

Gemini birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – this is a less than average time. A lot will depend on the power of your birth chart. Expenses will increase. This is not a good time for speculative investments. Your elders may require medical attention. And unexpected travel will make you tired. Do not get unnecessarily emotional about issues, try to be practical and pragmatic.
  • Phase 2 – this is a slightly better time than the above. You will be overworked in office, but new opportunities will open up. Finances will be manageable. Family life will be good. Overall this is an average time so try to maintain your life on an even keel.

Cancer birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – this is a really good time for you so make the most of it. You will be able to recover your health, wealth etc. Profession will be good, business will be profitable you may be able to expand your activities. Financial situation will be good. Overall you can take calculated risks and gain in life, make the most of this time.
  • Phase 2 – compared to the phase 1, this time will be just average. But still things will be manageable. However except stress in the job and at home. Also take care of your health, diet and rest. Not a time to speculate or engage in risky ventures.

Leo birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – will be average with  some opportunities. Overall this time will give you balanced results. Your health will be good. Job and home life will be average. Budgeting is always a good option. Avoid speculation and risky investments.
  • Phase 2 – now this short time frame will give you some really good results. Seize the opportunities which come your way in this time. You can expect a promotion in your job, or sudden profits in your business. You can consider short term investments which give  you results in 1month. Not a good time for long term or risky investments. Family life will be good and you will be relaxed and confident about life.

Virgo birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – will see a slight slow down but still the time is very good. You will have a good experience in your office, home and with relatives. However office work load will increase, you might see some difficulties in your work. But you consider these as opportunities you will still be able to grow. Make the most of this time frame to gain in life.
  • Phase 2 – this phase will see a significant slow down. Gossip jealousy and back biting will go negative for you. Office work will increase, business will see a slow down, home life will be stressful. Budgeting is necessary and not a good time to take risks. This time can be average to slightly negative so be alert.

Libra birth Moon

  • Phase 1 –  average time so you will have to be alert. You might feel stressed out so try to spend some time with your friends and well wishers. Office will give stress, do not trust others unnecessarily. Focus on your work. Medical and travel expenses can arise in this time. Not a good time for speculation.
  • Phase 2 – this is a better time frame so use this to recover from the effects of phase 1. Family life will be better, office work will be productive. You can consider investing in guaranteed projects. But still caution is advised.

Scorpio birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – this will be a good period. You will recover from the stress which you must have gone through in recent times. Family life will be good, job will give satisfaction and you will be able to capitalise on opportunities. You can consider investing and taking reasonable risks. Auspicious events are possible in this time.
  • Phase 2 – will be average and you have to be alert. Minor health issues, medical expenses are possible. Past mistakes will make their presence felt. Office and home both will be stressful but you should be able to manage overall. Try to channelise Saturn’s qualities of sincerity, honesty, integrity and hard work to get through.

Sagittarius birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – you have to be alert as this period can be average to bad. Try to keep your temper in check as there will be several trying situations at home and in office. Disagreements with others will make you unpleasant. Keep an eye on your health and do not ignore any warning signs. Not a good time on the financial level.
  • Phase 2 – this time will allow you to recover from phase 1. So you can use this energy to set your life back in track. Your profession, business, home life etc will come back to normal. Finances will improve and you will feel fresh and relaxed once more.

Capricorn birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – Things are improving for you and this will be one of the best 3 months of your life. You will be successful in all aspects of life now. So use this time to build some lifetime asset, diversify your income sources, cultivate new/useful contacts. Take up projects only after checking everything, basic common sense is always applicable. This time is very good for you so use it productively.
  • Phase 2 – Slight reduction in positivity is expected. You might feel as if brakes have been put on your successes. Be careful of back biting, gossip and jealousy as this can affect you negatively now. Otherwise family, job, finances will be all generally average. Short term slow down but with long term positives.

Aquarius birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – is average. But still things will go your way. There are several positives in your job and in your home life, just try to note them and work hard for them. The time is slowly getting better. The middle phase of the Sade sati is generally a test and you are now slowly coming out of this.
  • Phase 2 – again you have to persevere. It is an average to good time but limited to about 1month. So try to use the energy for short term projects which will give results in this one month itself.

Pisces birth Moon

  • Phase 1 – this will be an average time but still good for you. Your health will improve, office will be more satisfying and home life will be supportive. You will become more religiously inclined and spirituality may increase. Expect improvement in finances and you will be meet your current commitments. However avoid speculation in this time.
  • Phase 2 – this can be an excellent time but it is just for this one month or so. So make use of this to gain in short term projects. Family life will be very good, office will see positivity eg salary increase and business will give good gains. Use this time effectively as this is the one high point in your first phase of Sade sati.

Use this Saturn retrograde is an opportunity to revaluate and refine your efforts, particularly those related to karmic actions. Especially do something to channelise the energy of the stationary Saturn. The effects of the retrograde will vary as per personal charts, but as a general remedy everyone should try to bring in the qualities of Saturn, hard work, practical approach, pragmatic mindset and focus on what you want in life.

Very Nice Post. Will help to take precautions and utilise the time in the most appropriate manner. However name of Saturn scares to some extent at least. However your posts have made it very clear that Saturn only returns back our own karma so in a way it helps us resolve our deep embeded karma. I am Tula lagna with saturn in 11 th house, I think I have to be cautious with new acquaintances during this time.

    Thank you.

      Hi there
for tula lagna, saturn is yogkarak. its leo rashi, he is in his father’s house. and despite everything he does respect his elders/father.
a yogkarak shani in the 11th leo is capable of giving you high levels of gain if you choose to work with him.

i have written several posts on saturn, tula lagna and yogkarak
do check the index page if you want to read these

being scared is actually a waste of energy
and one is scared when one does not have information.
so try to learn more about saturn and with time /understanding you will feel more courageous in his matters

Hi. I have Saturn in Aquarius in 9th house, conjunct with Sun in 9th in my natal chart.. (mercury in 10th/ aquarius) and rahu in 7th. My ascendant is taurus and moon in leo. how can I expect the saturn retrograde in aquarius to impact me?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
i have written a brief for the moon in leo part
and moon in 4th house is also very comfortable. capable of securing a lot of positivity in life.

but as your asc is taurus, saturn is the best functional benefic. yogkarak. he will never sabotage u. instead he will support

yogkarak saturn in 9th / gemini is good. even if he gets combust by sun he does have the capacity to do some good.
you can try offering water to the rising sun as a lifetime practice, this will give ur sun+saturn scope to work in a more favourable manner.

Hello, I am facing a difficult situation, if one parent is behaving badly, mentally, verablly abusive with the other, as a teen or even as an adult, is it my duty to stop that parent and protect the other one, especially when badly behaving parent says stay out of this, this is a matter between two adults.

What is the right way according to Dharma?

      2. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
its an unfortunate situation for you to be in.
its an interpersonal relationship issue between 2 adults who are married to each other. its unfortunate that they are not able to show that much maturity in life.

its an uncomfortable situation for you as you is supposed to love/ respect both parents. and this must have impacted your own perspectives related to marriage and married life in general.

if one of them is in danger – emotional / physical then you can consider talking to your other relatives, your grandparents or your aunts/ uncles whom you think may be able to help.
ideally – if they can consult a relationship counsellor to sort out their issues. this is the real solution. but even here, the others can only suggest, the action/ change is their responsibility.

and if there is a real danger to life or health, if there is physical/emotional violence as per the law then do consult a lawyer or even the police as per the laws of the place where you live.

what you can do is this –
if you are an Indian then you can worship Devi Laxmi. she is the energy responsible for a peaceful and prosperous home life. this may help you sort out your home environment. but more importantly it will help you recover from this stress of seeing your parents argue. and ultimately ensure that you get a good spouse/ family in the future.
if you are not an Indian then invoke the similar deity from your home culture who supports prosperity.
also try to improve your own mindset, eg go to the gym, learn a art – singing, drawing etc. this will help you on a personal level. else seeing this everyday can be very suffocating.

see, a person changes only when he realises that something is not going well in his life and because of his own behaviour. they take responsibility and wish to improve. each one is ultimately responsible for his own behaviour.
unless your parents, both of them, realise this, they wont change. one will endure the bullying and the other will continue behaving badly.

if the parent who is being bullied is accepting this without resisting then this will only increase the toxic behaviour of the other parent.
ultimately its their decision. others including you, can only try to help but only to an extent.

but you have realised that this is wrong and so you should try to heal the hurts this sort of home environment must have caused you since this started.

What is the the logical reason/ science behind fasting on specific dates, like ekadashi and Chaturthi, is it based on tides and gravitational pull, or is something even more subtle, thank you?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
on the physical level it is linked to tides etc. as per jyotish its the nitya yog and on the subtle levels too there is a link.
do it a few times and if you are consistent you will understand the energy links yourself

Hello madam, Thank you so much for your kind words and your answers, I’m an Indian and I shall do as you suggest, worshiping Devi Laxmi, It is uncomfortable, but thanks to reading your blogs I have come to see, it as their Karma being resolved, but when I know that the bullying parent is wrong and overreacting, for me to be a mute spectator is very tough, I’m concerned that my inaction will result in Bad Karma, but if I intervene it will get very ugly and it will make me go against the concept of “Pitru devo Bhava”, but no god would do something wrong like this. So I’m confused

this may help if you are sincere about it

      http://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/02/20/the-sure-shot-solution-to-prosperity/

sometimes common sense is the best option

being emotionally involved in the situation, which is absolutely natural as they are your parents, does not really help.
you have to take a step back and let the intellect work

my Guru would say that if you have a problem ‘neighbourise’ it. think that this is your neighbour’s problem.
if this were happening with your neighbour’s parents, then what would be your reaction?
you would not be emotionally involved but yet because this is your neighbour, you would try to help as much as reasonably possible.
see if this thought process works for you. this way your emotional link/disturbance will reduce and yet your intelligence will be able to help.

    Hello,
I’m an Aries ascendant, moon sign is Gemini
In my natal chart saturn is in 4th house (Aries ascendant) in Cancer and retrograde.1st house is ketu.
Currently I’m trying very hard to close some big deals in my business front, but not getting the desired results, will this saturn retrograde will help or will do bad and what remedies should I do to get the results i want.
    Thank you

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
gemini moons have a average period.
yet if your aries sign has more strength (check your ashtakvarga), then you may get your desired results. but there will be emotional stress. so be practical about things

remedies are lighting a sesame oil lamp on saturdays with the shani mantra in your puja ghar or temple. or giving oil to the navgraha temple on satudays. or adding oil to navgraha temple lamp on saturdays. or doing puja of Bhagwan Maruti on Saturdays.
      whatever suits your schedule.

and for overall prosperity do this for a lifetime. it will hold everything together

      Hi there

i have written in this post itself that anything which happens about 5-10 days before and after he changes direction is an unavoidable karma.
but you can reduce the impact by acting in time.

this is a medical issue and you will have to follow the medical professional’s advice on this. the issue has percolated in the physical body, so follow the medicines etc.

but you can always recite mantra for his speedy recovery. depending on your mindset here are a few options –

      the mahamrutyunjai mantra
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2021/06/30/maha-mrutyunjai-mantra/

or if you know the kuldevata of your father’s family then –
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2022/02/06/kuldevata-and-ishtadevata/

if you do not know who this deity is then pray to Bhagwan Ganpati, he is the Vighnaharta.

      or Bhagwan Dhanvantari
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/03/01/dhanvantari/

or you can recite /listen to the Vishnu Sahastranama for his speedy recovery.

this will have the added effect of reducing your and his mental stress and increase overall positivity.

      also this may b relevant

Very responsibly detailed. Thank you for the amazing insights!

You mentioned about Saturn being positive for Capricorn ascendants. I have that as well as Saturn sitting in Mooltrikona in Aquarius (2nd House). My moon sign is Virgo (9th house), with its dispositor, Mercury — the bhagyesh, making a conjunction with the lagnesh in the 2nd house.

The results mentioned by you for Virgo sign are somewhat different from what you mentioned in the preceding paragraphs about Saturn as lagnesh. How do you suggest reading this transition in such a case?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
Saturn is never a problem for these 4 ascendants.
so i have seen that these people are able to persevere through anything that saturn puts them through and then come through with even more gains etc.

so observe you own charts and see how saturn functions in your life.

moon in the 9th house is always a good combination

in fact i have written several posts on these combinations, do ref the index page

but overall this retrograde will not be problematic for you. if you work intelligently you may get some long awaited positive things in this time.

        Hi Tejaswini,

I have discovered 2 key things in the past 2 days: one is your blog and the other one is Jupiter Venus opposition in my chart, which remains in opposition in D9 as well. The opposition (applying your method to add 180 to Venus’s degrees is a difference of 1 degree only). Also, both of them are retrograde. Venus is Exalted as well. But, Jupiter sits in 9th house with Moon. Tough, I guess.
I have devoured God-knows-how-many of your blogs already in the couple of ‘reading hours’ I had since yesterday, and fortunately chanced upon the rare gem on this unusual placement in my chart. With every blog that I have read, a tide of thanks has gathered along each time, which I am sending out to you as vibes here … It has already been such a rollercoaster of joy, relief, revelation, ‘that’s why!’ feeling, all good things really and I plan to savour each one of these blogs! In your retro Jupiter article, you have encouraged readers to share their knowledge, maybe through a blog, whether or not read by anyone (the energy still being sent): you have been doing something similar on this platform, the intensity with which your knowledge has dawned is ‘pratyaksh ko pramaan kya’ to me. Sorry for exploiting this comment response box like this, just had to somehow send you the wave of gratitude for doing so much for us. I bet your inner peace is unmatchable to our gratitude! Will continue reading and, God willing, drop by in such boxes sometimes!

        P. S. I prefer to deliver my highest compliments, privately. I am innocently believing for this comment to remain private, though I wonder if it will be made public automatically.

        Hi there

        you are welcome 🙂

9th house jupiter and moon will give very good results
        venus 3rd is also ok
together they should give spiritual maturity as well as material gains.

yes, its always good to express.
this blog or even my channel, i am doing it for me nor for anyone else. it helps me organise my thoughts, experiences, improve my skills, and is a good use of my time. and as i write on the foundation of sanatan dharma, this is also a spiritual exercise for me.

others may like it or think it to be useless or not bother, either way it is perfectly fine for me.

do use the index page for the list of all the posts.

    Hi Tejaswini,
Great article! Just a quick question on a different topic if you don’t mind: As a newbie I feel confused about the house chart. What is the purpose of the house chart and when do I have to consult it? I mean, the sign chart is based on the equal house system so what is the need for an extra house chart? However, I have noticed though that there is a discrepancy between the sign chart and the house chart for some individuals like my brother for instance. Should I in such cases exclusively consult the house chart, or…? Looking forward to your reply. Thank you in advance! Jo

      Hi there

if you can read this and if there are more questions

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/10/08/systems-houses-signs-the-math/

      and

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2023/07/19/unequal-houses-and-math-in-astrology/

      in short,

the asc degree has to be on the exact center of the 1st house.
the desc deg at exact center of 7th house
zenith and nadir at 10th and 4th house centers respectively

but there are two conditions which do not require any sort of corrections

      1. if the birth asc deg is exactly at 15deg in any sign – thus house and sign will be coterminus
      2. if on the day of the birth the daytime and nighttime was exactly 12hrs – thus each house will be exactly 30 deg in width

but these conditions will fit only rare births

      for most of us
      1. asc degree is not in center of the sign. so its area of influence/bhava/ house will spill over the limits of the sign –
      2. the daytime and nighttime corrections will be applied – so not every house will be 30deg in width.

      i hope this is ok?

so as a beginner you can go with the charts you get from the app directly. this will give you a reasonable level of accuracy esp if you do your pujas etc and have developed some intuition

but once you are a bit advanced you should first try to do the (1) correction
and when you are even more advanced, ie can do the math properly, do the (2) correction

Can I ask a question about retrograde Saturn in 9th house for Pisces ascendant/Gemini moon (Ardra):

Running Saturn-Venus now, retrograde Saturn is placed in 9th house (Scorpio sign) in D1 and moves to 6th house in moon chart.

Jupiter and Rahu in 1st house of Lagna chart, currently Rahu transiting over natal Rahu in Uttarabhadrapada.

Since the last few months (since Nov 23), have been troubled by litigation issues, mounting expenses, and possibility of loss/change of job.

I do daily pujas very sincerely including Sri Suktam, as mentioned here as sure-shot solution. A part of me also accepts all this is my Prarabdha and karma, but then when there are reputation, money and job losses, it also affects my family, and is this our collective prarabdha?

Or is there anything I can do to change the tides of fortune during this time or get more luck in this life or during this Saturn Mahadasha?

    Thank you.

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there

you have a very turbulent period now. you have listed out the combinations yourself

it is a collective prarabdha, no doubt about that. family members are together because of this only.

you can check out the horoscopes of your family members who live with you this will be your spouse, children and parents as per your situation.
whoever has the best combination going on at this point of time, he /she will have to do some extra intentions for the family.
if this is the children then you should add an intention that you need luck to provide for your children.

if you are doing the Shri sukta, then rest assured that its building up, whenever the time comes you will get the fruits of this sukta.

mahadasha of saturn, and saturn in the 9th means that Kuldevata has a role.
if you doe not know who this is then at least think of Bhagwan Ganpati as a general destroyer of obstacles and do something once in a while for him.

Thank you so much for clarifying and suggesting these remedies.

Yes parents have similar combinations and 6th house has been activated for all of us currently.

Mother probably is best placed amongst us as a Libra ascendant and Taurus moon. But her own retrograde Saturn is conjunct retrograde Jupiter in 3rd house Sagittarius so maybe remedies don’t work fully.

But we will keep our patience, and live out our prarabdha.

Thank you so much, and bless you and your family!

      2. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
if your mother has yogkarak saturn in the 3rd then even if he is a bit spoilt by jupiter, he is still capable of doing a lot of good. her age must be beyond 48 yrs now? then even more so
only condition is that she remains practical about things.

if you are living with your parents and are unmarried then your mother should send positive intentions/ prayers for you, it will give results.
but this does not mean that you pressurise her to do so.

He is the son of the Sun ! saturn is the way the Sun operates in real life. and this is also why surya arghya is the remedy which covers material issues also. you are routinely offering respect to the karmic enforcer’s father.

saturn does test but he only gives as much as he thinks you can handle. so try to bring saturn’s qualities in your mind. patience, sincerity, respect for authority, routine, work etc. and yet systematic about everything.
saturn will test but he is fair and he does not deny what you have fairly earned for yourself.

Thank you for your guidance and hopefully words.

Yes I strongly believe whatever good that has happened in my life is through my Mother’s grace and intentions, and the bad things were likely my karma. She does not live with me but I will pass on your suggestions.

Yes we do Surya arghya everyday. Hopefully it will all lead to some good, some day.

Sun and Saturn are in opposition in both mine and father’s chart, and we are both Pisces Lagna with Rahu Ketu in 1-7 and 7-1 axis respectively. I get your point about synastry and people clustering together in same family.

Thank you once again for this blog and YouTube channel, these resources have been incredibly helpful to us in the last few years. Hello ma’am

Thank you for answering all queries, you share so much knowledge even as answers in everyone’s comment

I have question on importance on name Rama.
Shri Ram is maryada purushuttam whereas shri krishna is purna purushuttam
there are many other names of shri krishna and many mantras I have heard

but I have not heard any mantra of Shri rama except rama.

Even in Vishnu Sahasranam it is said Rama is best name (Shri Rama Rama Rameti, Rame Rame Manorame)

What is so special about name Rama, despite Shri Krishna being more evolved avatar of Vishnu

    Thank you!

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
this is mentioned in the phalashruti of the Shri Vishnu Sahastranam.
the Mahabharat which is written by Maharishi Vedvyas has only the main VS. Bhishma Pitamah narrates this to Yudhisthir after the war.

the nyas, dhyan, phalashruti etc has been added later by various Rishis /Brahmins etc. this must have been as per the time / understanding of their times. so this line ‘sahastranama tat tulyam..’ is not there in the Mahabharat.
again if you read this phrase, ‘tat’ is grammatically odd. ‘sahastranam tulyam’ is enough. but ‘tat’? our shloks are not very simple. that is why they should be taught by a Guru. whenver ‘tat’ word comes it indicates the mahavakyam ‘tat tvam asi’. now you have something more to think about.

then ‘Rama’ is a word in sanskrit.
so just like every other word in sanskrit, it is a concept, an idea.
      so rama means
happiness, pleasure, black, white, something capable of giving happiness, something born out of joy, beautiful, something born out of the dual, unpredictable, something that gives rise to sentiment, something which is born out of Playing, something connected to the Game, connected to wandering, something that induces attraction, something that rests/abides, something which is at rest, something which gives birth to calmness.

see these ideas. they all point towards paradoxes, and then its Leela, manah sayyam and finally the Atma.

ultimately Atmajnyan is the only thing which gives joy.

King Dasharath and his Guru Maha Rishi Vashishtha liked this name and thus it was given to his first born son who at the age of 12 days came to be known as Shri ‘Rama’.

now with Shri “Krishna’, he was never formally given a name like this. there is no reference in the Mahabharat where his naming ceremony is described. just because he had dark skin he was called ‘Krishna’ and the name stuck.
but krishna too is primarily a word, a concept and idea – wicked, perfume, venom, spirit, dark fortnight, and most importantly the dark pupil of the eye.

krishna is the undefinable ‘darkness’ which is known with the eye of vijnyan /third eye.

this is just like Devi Lalita and Devi Kalika, both are the same.
one is the indescribable expanded universes and the other is the indescribable underlying reality.
not everyone can bear the energy of Devi Kalika so they worship Devi Lalita.

if regular householders read the dhyan verses of Devi Kalika, they won’t be able to sleep at night. all the horror movies produced till now cannot match some of the verses given as her Dhyan.
but Devi Lalita, she is described in words which will seem so beautiful to regular householders. so they worship Her this form.
if i tell you to do some puja on Purnima, you will do it happily
but if i tell you to do a puja on Amavasya you will be a bit scared.

this is the same. Shri Ram is still a much milder and gentler energy compared to Shri Krishna.
but both are essentially the same.

unfortunately in north India they have started potraying Shri Krishna as a ‘lover’ rather than as the annihilator of the created worlds and this is a major misinterpretation.
in south India they worship him as the Yogeshwar Shri Krishna. if you can find a book where the Advaitic interpretation of the BG is given do read it. (Shankarbhashya is in Sanskrit so today most people cannot read it.)

and ultimately its a step wise process.
first dvaita, then vishishta advaita then pure advaita

i always find this one point interesting.
Shri Ram felt a bit apprehensive when he confronted Ravan on the battlefield for the first time. So Maharishi Agastya had to come and give upadesh to Shri Ram. he told him to worship the Aditya Hrudaya and then move into the battlefield. So Shri Ram worshipped the Aditya and then felt energised enough to fight Ravan

and in the Mahabharat, the same setting. but here Shri Krishna gives the upadesh.

but there is one thing which we must learn from Shri Ram. this is the preparatory stage. never question niyati. Destiny – karmaphal cannot be questioned. he was going to be king the next day, instead he was given bark garments and put out of the city.
he went through his destiny without questioning but still he always used his free will to work within the boundaries set by destiny.

similarly do your pujas with Shri Ram and when the time comes you will be taken to the Bhagwat Gita of Shri Krishna in the real sense.

      1. Urvi Avatar
        Urvi

That would also explain why narsinh mehta, mira bai, sant tukaram had difficult material life, they were always protected but tested and not every householder would able to go through that or want that.

Thank you so much for detailed explanation! I cannot express how grateful I am!

        Hi there
i write this in my several posts.
do enjoy the game. it is there for pure enjoyment, take part in all the emotions, laugh cry, do everything. and only when you are tired, and your really want to go home. only then pick up the vedant. till then enjoy the variety before you.

        https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/02/19/evolution-of-the-soul-and-the-horoscope/

        the route is the same
first vedpurva – karmakaand, then upasanakaand
then vedant also called as jnyankaand

or in terms of metaphysical concepts – you have to follow the route from
        first dvaita
        then vishishta advaita
then the pure advaita or keval advaita of Shri Krishna

at the intellectual level of these Gurus and Swamis you have written, these had developed their buddhi to such a subtle level that they grasped the concept of the Self. and with such conviction that the body/ mind/ buddhi itself became irrelevant. i know that the body is going to be changed in one lifetime. the mind will change in one pralay. so why remain attached to this?
all these are sounds, words, concepts, ideas. these fascinate the ideating mind/Manas. if you want to rise above this ideating mind and reach the discriminating Mind /Buddhi and then rise beyond this too. this is the meaning of mumukshatva/ desire for moksh.

pain pleasure are all ideas born in the ideating mind. let them be. why let them dominate my discriminating mind?
in short – why let the emotions dominate over the intelligence?

when i know that i am the entire Ocean, will i bother about the wave?
i am from Maharashtra so in my sampraday, we recite Sant Tukaram’s abhangs reguarly.
in one abhang, he gives the gist of the entire Vivekchudamani. i see in my sampraday, old women old men, small children, young men women are all reciting the highest vedant, daily, as a part of the evening abhang bhajan!
its amazing that we have such a Guru parampara!
so in my several posts, in addition to Sanskrit shloks, i strongly recommend reciting bhajans in local languages, but only those composed by Atmajnyani Mahapurush

I read Bhagwat Geeta 1st time when I as 14 and did not understand whole but loved 12th adhyaya. I also read mahabharat (abridged version) around that time. I wanted to follow all aspect of 12th adhyaya but somewhere I always felt I will be tested and that scared me till now.

But what you said makes complete sense now I have to first develop the acceptance of niyati.

Ps : We visit Maharashtra for darshan of our kuladevi. I got CD of movie on Sant tukaram when we visited Pandharpur when I was young. All devotes of shri Krishna and shri Krishna himself always fascinated me.(moon in rohini may be lol)

        Thank you!

      4. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
in my opinion there are no baseless fears. the emotion is from your subconscious and so there is always a reason. the subconscious does not allow the conscious mind to see that reason unless it is prepared to accept it.

eg a client was always scared of insane people. rarely he would see someone like that walking on the road and he would feel actually agitated, sweat on his face types. later he realised that he himself had been insane for several lives and that his fear was not a random thing. once he realised this he stopped feeling agitated.

12th adhyay is karma yog, it is sagun ishwar upasana. it is particularly the vishva rupi sagun rup upasana.
karma yog is compulsory for all who are followers of sanatan dharma. karma yog is vedpurva. this grants chitta shuddhi and sadhan chatushtaya sampatti.
only when you are able to see the Ishwar in everyone and everything are you qualified to read Jnyan kaand.
vedant is possible only when the ved purva syllabus is done perfectly.

BG is a dialogue between a shishya and a Guru
but and this is very important – the shishya evolves as the BG and the Guru also evolves –

the shishya is first a very despondent one, he wants to abandon his dharma and run away. Adharmi mind.

then he realises that he has to do his dharma. his dharma here is of a kshatriya who has to fight. at this level.
this is varnashram so vedpurva is involved. sagun ishwar upasana karma kaand. and upasana kaand so visha rupi ishwar upaasana is discussed by the Guru. A Dharmi Mind which follows Vedpurva.

then he realises that he is more than just a kshatriya. he wants Moksh also, here a Mukmukshu Mind who wants to enter Jnyan Kaand, Vedant.

the shishya moves ahead from the karmakaand. he enters jnyan kaand/ pure vedant. so the Guru talks about jnyan yog. and finally moksh.

the shishya has evolved from artarti, arti, jignyasu and now on the verge of Jnyani bhakt.
the Guru also has evolved from Sagun Ishwar to Visva rupi Sagun Iswar to the Nirgun Iswar.

now Arjun feels confident about fighting the war . this is his dharma as a kshatriya, vedpurva. he fights this
but what is his duty as a student of the vedant? his Guru has given him atmajnyan. now it was expected that Arjun do Nididhyasanam. if he would have done it, he would have been Mukt. but he does not do this as we see him sitting in Swarga after his death.

the point is that when you read the BG. it is a route map to the Self.
Shri Krishna is not someone outside you. He is sitting at your own Kutastha. He is the Self, the indescribable Kutastha purush.

if you are capable of reading vedant. then read the Shankarbhashya commentaries by Anandgiri and Ramrayakavi. they are brilliant ..

    Tejaswini Ji

    Namaste.

Went through your articles on exaltation and debilitation.

    I have a question please 🙏
Jupiter’s exaltation sign is Cancer in D1 and Leo in D9.
It’s debilitation sign is Capricorn in D1 and Aquarius in D9.
Similarly, other planets, with the exception of Venus, have different exaltation and debilitation signs in D1 and D9.

Moon’s exaltation is in Taurus in D1 and in Capricorn in D9. It’s debilitation is in Scorpio in D1 and in Cancer, his own sign, in D9!! – u also referred to this as “curious”.

My understanding is – irrespective of a planet’s uncomfortable placement in D1, if it moves to it’s own, exalted or friend’s sign in D9, internally the person is better able to handle its energies.

If that’s the case, wrt Jupiter, suppose it is in an enemy sign/uncomfortable position in D1, if it moves to Sagittarius, Pisces, Cancer or Leo in D9, it is internally better – so is the case for all other planets wrt their corresponding signs.

For moon alone, if it’s uncomfortable in D1, it’s movement to Cancer in D9, instead of making it comfortable internally, reinforces the uncomfortable position in D1.

Is that the right interpretation please?

    Thank you and Pranams
    Padmalakshmy

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there

i have written about the D1 and D9 positions for the exalted and debilitated degrees.

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/10/17/debilitated-planets-birth-chart-and-navamsha/

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/10/09/exalted-planets-analysis-birth-chart-and-navamsha/

in short the d9 is the ‘soul’ of the person, and the d1 is the ‘body’.
if both synergise then its best. these are the sorted out, balanced sort of people you meet in life.
thus when i get a client i check the d9, to see what kind of internal wiring exists so that i can give a more acceptable advice.
but if there is a mismatch then, the good/bad will depend on that person’s perception. someone might want riches even by committing crimes. and someone might prefer living poor with a clean conscience.
