Clients book sessions with astrologers only when they are in trouble, not when they are happy. As an astrologer, you are required to counsel your clients, to guide them, offer advice. So several of my posts are on analysing unfavourable combinations in the chart. But for a certain type of client, even if you offer the appropriate advice for some reason it does not seem to work for him, and there is a reason for this.
The patterns in the horoscope which give troublesome results are connected to,
- The dushamsthans – 6th 8th 12th houses
- Then the trishaday 3rd 6th 11th houses.
- The badhaksthan is ascendant specific, either the 7th or 9th or 12th house.
- And Maraksthans, 2nd and 7th houses.
And in case a planet owns houses which fall in two or more of these categories then he becomes capable of causing serious issues in your life. Eg a planet who simultaneously owns a badhak house and a dusham sthan. Or owns a house which is simultaneously a dusham and trishaday. Eg. The 6th house is simultaneously a dusham and a trishaday, so its sign and lord should never be generally trusted.
Depending on the chart, saumya/ gentle and kroor/ cruel planets both can be troublemakers. But there is one main difference in their mode of working. Issues created by cruel planets are more easily identifiable, move visible and accepted to be problems. Eg if Mars causes an accident then at least a doctor can diagnose and help.
But when gentle planets cause problems, these are often so subtle that it is difficult to believe. These issues seem so harmless that the first challenge is to accept that this is a problem. eg your mother was not available much in your childhood (malefic Moon), so you developed issues of abandonment and emotional insecurity. Later unhealthy sleeping/ eating habits or needy behaviour, trust issues etc will develop. Healing the root cause here will also need psychological counselling.
But of all these combinations, the most typical situations arise when either the Devguru Brihaspati Jupiter and /or Daityaguru Shukracharya Venus or both together are inauspicious for the chart. Jupiter and Venus are considered to be gentle /saumya, helpful, auspicious, benefic, the Gurus of the zodiac, the guides, advisers and helpmeets. They are the natural significators of pleasing things in life. Jupiter – teacher, spouse, Dharma, children, health, blessings, luck, etc. Venus – desires, actions, partnerships, wealth, love, spirituality etc. Having an auspicious Venus and/or Jupiter ensures that you desire/ hope for the right things, the advice you get is correct, you are able to identify the correct guide, follow the correct guidance, you trust the right person, you are able to identify the root cause of the issues in your life and take appropriate action etc.

In a chart Venus and Jupiter own two houses each. So let’s briefly analyse the ascendants in terms of Venus and Jupiter as possible malefics. Here the criteria is this – Venus or Jupiter owning two problematic houses – dusham, trishaday, badhak or marak.
For Aries ascendant, Venus owns the 2nd and 7th Marak so is not auspicious in the long run. If well placed he will guide you ably so that you get money, partnerships, close family, etc, drown you in material achievements thus ensure that you ignore the spiritual path. If badly placed, he will misguide you in the matters of the 2nd and 7th thus denying you both material and spiritual achievements.
For Taurus ascendant Jupiter owns one Dusham 8th and one Trishaday 11th making him inauspicious. You might be misguided in the matters of these two houses. The solution is to be pragmatic concerning these matters. You might suffer sudden catastrophic changes in your hopes to gain.
For Gemini – Neither Jupiter nor Venus own two such houses. So you can be assured that the advice that you get will be actually helpful in life. Also your desires and hopes will not get you into much trouble.
For Cancer ascendant – Cancer ascendant has the biggest challenge among all the signs in this aspect as both Jupiter and Venus can cause issues in life. Venus owns the 11th which is a trishaday and also a Badhak house (11th is the most inauspicious trishaday). And Jupiter owns the 6th which is simultaneously a trishaday and a dusham (6th is the mahadusham). Though they own only one inauspicious house each but this one house fall in two categories, both houses are simultaneously trishaday and badhak. Cancer ascendants should be very careful in the matters represented by these two graha. You should very carefully examine your expectations, motivations, also the guidance you receive in these matters and perform your actions accordingly. Additionally for Jupiter, he owns the mahadusham 6th and the dharma-sthan 9th, and any combination of the 6th and 9th is not auspicious.
Leo ascendant – Neither Jupiter nor Venus own two such houses. Thus the guidance you get in life will be of actually useful. The positive things that Jupiter and Venus represent will not carry a hidden sting.
Virgo ascendant – Neither Jupiter nor Venus own two such houses. So you can trust the guides in your life. Your expectations and motivations will be auspicious side.
Libra ascendant – Jupiter owns the 3rd which is a trishaday and the 6th which is both a trishaday and a mahadusham. So being careful in the matters indicated by Jupiter will help you better manage several troubles in your life. Avoid being overly kind, generous and hopeful in the matters he represents, best be practical here. Also be careful of ‘misplaced trust’ in the house in which he is placed in.

Scorpio ascendant – Venus owns one Marak 7th and one dusham 12th. Be careful about your desires and Venus things connected to these houses. People whom you think to be your partners, spouse, the people you are physically intimate with, money from business and secret sources, unethical activities, etc can potentially cause you losses.
Sagittarius ascendant – Venus owns the 6th house which is a dusham and trishaday. And also the 11th which is a trishaday. So the insidious troubles that you will face in life will have their roots in the the keywords of Venus. The house of service/suffering is tied subtly to the house of gain. Also be careful of the house in which Venus is placed in your chart, and act only after analysing your ‘desires’ in these matters.
Capricorn ascendant – Jupiter owns the 3rd trishaday and the 12th dusham and is capable of creating strange issue in your life so be alert when you interact with the agents of Jupiter. Also be cautious about the advice you get from others. Being bold in matters about which you do not have much knowledge can lead to losses.
Aquarius ascendant – Jupiter owns the 2nd and the 11th one is a marak and the other is a trishaday houses. You should be careful when acting under the influence of Jupiter’s agents. There is a chance that your life philosophies might make you take the wrong action especially in the public domain.
Pisces ascendant – Venus owns one Trishaday 3rd and one dusham 8th so it’s best to be aware of your desires which can lead you astray. You should take decisions only after you know all the facts. Else your wishful thinking will land you in sudden unexpected trouble.

So this was how the Devguru and Daityaguru can cause deep rooted trouble for some ascendants based on the type of houses they own.
And then the other randomly assorted malefics, debilitated planets, combust or retrograde planets, bhavheen planets/signs etc which are arrayed to give you inauspicious results. (index page) The argala on each house will cause obstacles in the functioning of that house. These planet, sign and house combinations will have to be seen from the individual charts. But always remember that a minimum of 3 combinations in the chart should indicate the same result, only then will it manifest strongly in life. And timing of the prediction depends on a suitable dasha/ transit.
