Use the retrograde Birth Mars

Retrograde planets deviate from the normal as they give unpredictable results in life. You are made to re-learn, re-experience, re-examine, re-do the lessons indicated by the planet till you understand it fully. This means that, you might be on the verge of success but you fail at the last moment, there are disappointments in physical life. Some rare meltdowns of epic proportions and general internal emotional turmoil.

About 10% of us have Mars retrograde in the  birth horoscope. Mars is the natural agent of Life and Death both. He goes retrograde for about 2 months every 2yrs and 2 months. All of us feel the retrograde Mars energy when he goes retrograde in transit. But birth retrograde Mars effects are for a lifetime and need conscious management.

Retrograde birth Mars means that you have specific traumas from your past lives linked to Mars. This are very strong impressions stored in your astral body. And they have such an intense impact on you that you wish to relive these again. You wish to extract the maximum learning possible from these, events, understand them completely so that you are eventually able to accept them.

A typical past life event would be perhaps you were someone physically powerful eg soldier, slave, a thug who served under a master, perhaps a king. And under your bosses orders you were cruel to a lot of people but against your personal will. Or you were forced by a black magic practitioner to commit crimes against your will. Or you were a spirit bound by such a Tantric practitioner. In any case even if you were forced to commit crimes on others you still feel very guilty. You followed your master’s cruel orders but your internal conscience accuses you and the Mars retrograde indicates that you are still trying to come to terms with this past life episode.

This Mars gives some very typical personality traits.

You feel guilty and shy for no good reason. And you are unable to regulate your anger. Sometimes you lose your temper spectacularly, perhaps get violent, but then you feel ashamed and guilty for days, months.

You know a lot, you have several talents but cannot express yourself. You feel uncertain of your own potential. Or maybe you are not allowed, not given the opportunity to compete. And you feel mentally tired just  by the thought of competing or standing in public and actually performing.

You are risk averse, cautious and think several times before actually acting. This is a good quality which can be used in specific fields, eg scientific research as you can effectively  plan and organize projects. But if you ever act on impulse, this will generally causes you losses. Then you often leave your projects halfway, if you feel that it is a waste of your time and energy, and others think that you are wasteful, stubborn or uncompromising.

One typical result here is that you are capable of self deprivation type of activities. You think that this is some way of ‘punishing’ yourself for that past life ‘guilt’. For eg, you can easily take on excessive religious activities, like excessive fasting, or some rigorous anushthan where you have to take on extraordinary level of self discipline. You can take on intense spiritual practices easily and frequently. This means that if the rest of the chart if supportive you can be a high level Tantrik practitioner, Shri Vidya student or have the intelligence to appreciate Vedant. In practical life, this means that you can take on arduous jobs where you have to live alone, or in dangerous situations or continue working in minimal comforts. This Mars can also give very high levels of intelligence, so you will be successful in these projects and missions.

Then you do not express your real passions, interests, and wishes. This with time can make you depressed and create a negative attitude towards life. Eg this retrograde Mars will not allow you to express your aggression, confidence, innovation in a healthy manner etc. It will bubble inside till it reaches a breaking point where it will burst out with so much force that you won’t be able to use it productively, generally it triggers a melt-down, you might cry or rage uncontrollably. This will be a rare event, maybe once or twice a year but others might think you have an unpredictable temper.

You are also not very comfortable with your spouse, you cannot express yourself in this one to one personal relationship. And sometimes there may be issues in the reproductive system. Often intimacy is reduced or may be denied.

Then retrograde Mars is linked to medical conditions related to the digestive system, circulatory system, and the reproductive  system. So take due care in case of any symptoms. And on the psychological levels, do try forgive yourself. Stand in front of the mirror and say this “I forgive myself” once in a while. It will help heal the subconscious mind. On the physical level doing some actual some charity work, where you actively help other people in person can also help you heal.

Then for managing your retrograde Mars here are some simple remedies.

  1. If you can take on a regular spiritual activity as a simple daily routine, this will help you hold your life together. The easiest option here is to give Arghya to the Sun.
  2. Or to light a deepak, lamp for your Kuldevata/ Ishtadevata.
  3. Mars is the son of the Devi Bhoomi, the earth. So an easy option is to think of the Devi Pruthvi, the conscious deity of this earth in the morning. Do this as you put your foot on the ground after you get out from the bed.
  4. Then doing pranayam with the Soham mantra is the best method of reducing the emotional / mental turbulence. You can do this whenever you feel agitated.
  5. Try to do 12 repeats of Anulom / Vilom with Soham mantra at sunrise and sunset if you can.
  6. If you cannot do these activities every day then at least do them on every Tuesday. If possible think of Mars and recite a mantra of your choice for Mars on this day. It can be as simple as “Om Shri Mangalaya namah”.
  7. And once in a while do donate the items connected to Mars to the local Navgraha temple or any temple or to the river/sea. You give away the unbalanced energy as Daan to an energy capable of absorbing it. These are actions powered by intention and thus work.
  8. Finally if you can learn Astrology systematically and understand yourself this is the ultimate remedy.

If you have more than two retrograde planets in your chart, do examine them carefully. These planets project their energies inwards not outwards. So if there are more retrograde planets they will weaken the outwardly directed power of the personality as a whole, as many aspects of your life will be influenced by these many planets. Retrograde planets are the impressions and events from our past lives which still influence us. And Jyotish helps us decipher this biggest mystery.

Thank you. Does a Mars 12th house placement have a similar cause and effect as Mats retrograde?

      Hi there
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2021/04/25/results-planets-give-in-the-12th-house/

there are some similarities as the Mars keywords give unexpected results. but still the fwd Mars is more useful than the retrograde Mars. you can consciously use his energy more easily if you choose to.

i know a chart with mars retrograde and in the 12th with saturn.. a very difficult personality.

        Namaste Tejaswini ji,

I don’t have any retro planets in my chart. But I know few people with the qualities you have written about, they most likely have Mars retrograde in their chart. Your this post is so beautifully written👌🏻. It has many easily doable remedies also. One of the many things I love about your posts is that it makes us introspect, become aware of our weaknesses and strengths and helps us improve ourselves. Thank you🙏🏻 Please continue writing.

        Much gratitude

Thank you for this. With exalted retro Mars in 6H, I resonated so well with this and also about health concerns. I understand my health concerns are due to rahu association with Mars in 6H. Thank you again

This made me check if I had any retrograde planets. I don’t. Every planet and even True rahu and ketu are direct in motion in my chart. I did read about it on this blog, you’ve written so extensively about it. I do have a question though, one of the sentences went, “completing an evolution in this lifetime”, this is in direct rahu and ketu article. What does this mean? I tried to google this but the only blog that even covers it is yours, so I have to ask 🙂 here.
What does having only direct planets mean? how does this change when rahu and ketu are also direct?

Thank you for giving us so much. I cannot find most of this outside the blog without doing some deep googling.

      Hi there
all fwd and rahu ketu fwd – you have a very direct way of thinking and do not generally review things – train your mind to review at least the important life decisions
rahu ketu and saturn are the most important forces in your chart. if rahu ketu are fwd they will allow you to complete one very big chunk of your karmic pendancy . like in school you will get promoted to the next standard in this life if you work for it.

see in the skies, note the direction of the graha, the earth against the bhaachakra. their direction of movement and speed determines the fructification of karma and creation of new karma. look in the skies and you might intuit what i am trying to explain.

when i was taught jyotish as a child, my dad first started with star gazing, showing the planets, the nakshatra. seeing the night skies, the visuals are very important at least for Jyotishis. today light pollution has destroyed this connection.

I understood the explanation. Thank you.

I try to plan and follow, but really at the very last minute my mind goes, “let’s just face this already!” and the next thing I know I’m in the middle of the situation. It’s in a very unconscious way. Like I’m on airplane mode. This was harder when I was younger but now as an adult things make sense. Your blog is very helpful. Thank you again. 🙂

    Namaste mam,
Can blood donation help mars get strength. Can it be considered as ‘daan’ and I am asking it for below combination for Mesha lagna with lagnesha in 8th house with ketu.
One way to strengthen is by doing exercises, which I learnt from one of your post. Is blood donation recommended in astrological remedies.

Hello Madam, My prayer room is facing north, so the moorthi is facing north and I dace south while praying, is this okay, please clarify.

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
which deity do you worship? there are some pujas which are done facing south.
but for general householders, a better choice would be to face east or north.

Hello madam, thank you so much for replying my question, I pray to ganesha murthi, the murthi faces north ,in my puja room, I face south,

Madam in your answer I have small doubt, if househlder faces north means, vigraha is facing south, is this not improper?

      2. Tejaswini Avatar

        Hi there
the general idea is that the worshipper should face towards north east, north or east, as these direction deities are the most auspicious and generally benevolent saumya types.

choose what is most convenient for you.

AQ ascendant, Retro Mars with Ketu in 9th in parivartana with Venus/Rahu in the 3rd. Any change in predictive behavior for this Retro Mars? Thanks.

    Dear Tejaswini Akka,

As always, thank you for this post. I also came here from your ‘Analysing occult from the chart’ series.

Was facing a peculiar life situation, so thought of asking in the light of the 2 part series of these posts.

    Aquarius ascendant, 38, Single Male,
Sun, Ketu, Budha in 8th house,
Jupiter in 1st, Venus in 9th,
    Mars in 11th,
    Saturn in 10th,
    Moon in 3rd,
    Rahu in 2nd

Since the last 4-5 months disillusionment felt from early childhood is now seeming to complete at an extremely rapid pace. ‘Something’ just keeps stopping me from going towards the material ( e.g. studying for the last level of an important finance exam, focusing on the job, etc). ‘Had to’ go on a short term break from work due to this ‘ extremely strong ‘mental pull.’

Daily routine went something like this since –

    Intense Pranaayam,
    Ganapati Sadhana,
Gayatri Sadhana ( Immense Illumination felt during the mantra jaap – the strongest reason for the ‘mental pull’),
Surya Arghya ( 3 Sandhya Vandanas ) / Meditating on ‘Aditya Hruday Stotram’,
    Agnihotras,
    Dainik Beej Mantras
    Soham Dhyaan,
Shri Yantra Tratak + Shri Sukta,
    Suryanamaskars,
VishnuSAhastranama / Meditation on Shri DakshinaMurthy,
Pranav Gita / Study of Vedas,
    Nirvanashatakam, Brahma Jnanavali,
    Other daily Homas, Pujas, etc,
Intense fasting on Mondays, Ekadashis, Amavasyas, Purnimas and Chaturthis,
Various Daana to various foundations including desi gowshala and temple visits, etc etc.

Not sure if it is worth mentioning but it is also the time period during which I was able to finally get the tri-metal kada (also Pearl, & possibly White Sapphire) after 3 years’ of trying. Also, almost 3 years ago, reading your posts about ‘Siddhakunjika and Navavarna mantra’ I had initiated myself into Devi Sadhana.

It is almost as if something is ‘calling me / pulling me’ in a certain direction and it ‘feels’ the disconnect felt with the material/ surroundings since childhood is seemingly coming to a fruition. Have been desperately looking for the answer, and came across this post, finally.

If you can share some light at this point in time, it would really help 🙏

    Namaste.

P.S. – I am seriously contemplating taking a career/devoting my life in this direction.

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
if you are of the householder stage then you have to do your material activities in your public life and your spiritual level activities in your personal private time.
you cannot apply vedantic concepts to this material stage of life. first complete your responsibilities towards your family, society etc.,
in any case when the intelligence reaches a certain level, this happens, we look at things in overlapping perspectives
      – superficial multiplicity underlaid by fundamental unity.

    Dear Tejaswini Tai,

Reference to Homa for Weaker Planets Article and Gayatri Mantra articles.

If one intensely just does the ‘Gayatri Mantra Sadhana’, in your opinion, will there still be a need to do different planetary beej mantras (or any other beej mantras) + daans/homa to balance the energies in one’s chart?

If you could kindly share some light, it would really help.

    Thank you 🙂

      Hi there
yes, it will work. do it regularly

      1. Mandar Avatar

Thank you 🙂. I am inferring you mean to say that just focus on ‘Gayatri Sadhana’ and instead of doing multiple things such as different beej mantras/planetary homas.

Also, regarding ‘Gayatri’ I wanted to seek your guidance on something. Feeling a little awkward to ask this here, but then there’s no other way to share with you and get some light.

While chanting ‘Gayatri’ after some counts, I tend to lose the number( I follow the method on counting on fingers taught by you ). The feeling is that of completely merging into the mantra and I stay there for some time. But this is resulting in me not following the counts 1/3/27/54/108. Would you be kind to provide any guidance on this please?

        Thank you again 🙂

      2. Tejaswini Avatar

        Hi there
        it is fine.
after a time (which can be one life or maybe a thousand) only one repeat is enough to trigger whatever it is supposed to trigger.
        but initially 108 is necessary.

Bless you for this seva of posting. Is there any way of knowing who we were among the slave/solider/wrestler, who our master was and what evil causes we made (most likely if not exact)? As for the remedies, hope they help all seeking peace. As for the future, with a natal retrograde mars in 11h in pisces as lord of 7h and 12h for taurus asc, the fear is the partner will destroy us psychologically (getting feelers of jealousy, anger etc. anyways), so it looks dim unless you feel otherwise.

      Hi there
      the past is gone.
i personally do not recommend going back into the past as it can create some other issues.
best is to accept it, deal with it and move forward. it will be difficult but we are humans we have a brain and are intelligent. emotions are useful but should not overpower intelligence.

if you feel like you want to know then there are regression, hypnosis etc. but i do not advise these things.

7th lord in 11th is a good position.
do not let your repressed emotions affect your thinking.
