Honesty and the horoscope

Honesty and the horoscope

A post for this question, ‘How to find out if someone is honest and speaking the truth?’

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

The 2nd house is the house of speech so sign, its owner, the planets placed in and the aspects on it all have a say on how/what you speak. Do you generally speak the truth or do you generally tend to lie or conceal the whole truth or use part truths and twist words?

A person who generally prefers to speak the truth will have these combinations,

  • The 2nd house will be vacant or have the ascendant specific benefic planets.
  • The 2nd lord will be in the Kendra, 1st 4th 7th 10th or the Kona 5th 9th houses or with the lords of any of these houses.

And for a person who tends to lie or twists the truth to suit his purposes will have,

  • The 2nd house/ lord heavily influenced by the functional malefics or naturally cruel planets. Specifically Rahu, malefic Mars or Saturn or Sun, or influences of the lords of the dushamsthans.
  • If the 2nd house has the Capricorn, Aquarius signs, ie signs owned by Saturn and a malefic Saturn is influencing the 2nd lord.

And the 2nd house lord, if strong and capable of auspicious results, will make you talk gently and sensibly. Your voice will be soothing and you will rarely swear or use harsh words. You will be successful in interviews, public speaking or a voice actor. If this planet is going to give inauspicious results, then you will lose your temper often, speak harshly and hurt others with your words. Or you cannot come directly to the point or cannot express yourself properly.

  • If the Sun is influencing the 2nd house then you like talking about the government, politics, etc and are a bit of a gossip. Egotistic, there will be a sense of arrogance and entitlement in your speech. You will be argumentative and will not stop unless your views are accepted by the other.
  • Moon – You have a soft voice, gentle speech, etc and people can get mesmerised by your words. You can involve yourself in every topic of conversation. You are able to adjust to what the conversation is all about, are highly flexible. You have the knack of speaking just what the other wants to hear.
  • Mars – you are straightforward in your speech. You cannot generally lie, you are direct and speak your mind. You do not like being interrupted but you always interrupt the other. You are aggressive and do not stop unless you have subdued the other with your words.
  • Mercury – You are highly skilled at conversations. You are focussed and know exactly what to speak, to whom and when. You ask cleverly disguised questions designed to glean information from others. You are capable of decisive words and people obey you because they are convinced that you are speaking the right thing.
  • Jupiter – Your words are soft, kind, gentle, modest, helpful and create hope in the hearts of the listeners. You can express philosophy in way which makes sense to even laymen. You are also a good listener. You are capable of giving correct advice and can work as a consultant or therapist etc.
  • Venus – Your speech is ‘ornamented’, sweet. You can quote poetry, quotes, verses etc. You cannot scold or shout or use crass words. You can make speech your profession, ie as a radio jockey or a narrator etc.
  • Saturn – connected to the 2nd house adds sincerity and practicality to your speech. You generally will not lie, unless the planet is spoilt. You stick to the promises you make and your words are sincere. You are capable of listening to others and genuinely offering practical advice.

We often forget to use the keywords of the signs in analysing the chart. Do try to think on what these keywords might indicate in terms of speech and honesty.  For eg.

  • Fiery signs if involved in the matter of speech give you a quick wit. It is impossible to argue and win with you. You know what to say (even if it is untrue) and you say it with such force that your words are difficult to counter. You project your energy, your passion through your speech. You can incite, motivate or hurt others with your words. Speaking extempore on topics is your forte.
  • If airy signs are connected here, then your speech will reflect your intelligence, your logic, your capacity to analyse things, to infer, to conclude. You present yourself logically and often you are a delight to listen to. You must have won debate competitions in school.
  • Earthy signs indicate practicality. You never say more than you have to. You are to the point and have a sort of a dullness in your speaking style. You cannot emote, cannot use variations in your voice. You might find it difficult to hold the attention of your audience. Also find it difficult to convince others.
  • Watery signs are imaginative but cannot put their ideas to words. You doubt your capacity to speak and often go off the topic. Initiative and boldness is less. You are unable to speak openly or attract/hold attention. Eg you laugh at others jokes but feel diffident about cracking a joke yourself. But you can become a good voice actor, if you can overcome your inherent shyness as expressing emotions through your speech is natural to you.

Next, the power of Mercury – Mercury in all charts is linked to the power of speech. If you have sample charts of people who stammer, stutter or are dumb, Mercury will be in trouble in these charts.

  • So if the birth chart shows a Mercury capable of inauspicious results, this person can speak lies fluently. Eg debilitated, retrograde, severely combust, low points in Ashtakvarga for the sign that he is in, Mercury with a malefic Mars, Mercury with Rahu, Mercury with functional malefics etc can give a tendency to lie.
  • And if the Mercury is heavily influenced by auspicious planets or is exalted etc then the person will not be inclined to lie.

Then check out the Dharma trikon ie the 1st  5th  9th houses of the horoscope. This is the most important factor. This will tell you if the personality is fundamentally honest and trustworthy. The Dharma trikon indicates how the basic personality, the creative genius, the confidence level, life philosophy, auspicious merits, luck etc work together. This trikon gives a general idea of the moral compass. How likely are you going to be honest or dishonest. Check the 1st 5th 9th houses and their owners.

  • If there are malefic planets in this sensitive axis then you will be more inclined towards dishonesty. Malefic planets are the planets who give inauspicious results in that specific horoscope, eg the functional malefics, etc. These, if placed in the Dharma trikon can encourage you to behave in an unethical manner.
  • Auspicious planets in the dharma trikon indicate that you will generally be honest.

Back to the question, ‘How do you know if a person speaking the truth or being dishonest?’.

These above combinations in the birth chart indicate the basic tendency of the personality. And every chart you study will have at least one combination from the above which can indicate dishonesty. But remember a single placement does not make a reading. For any real event to occur there should be at least 3 combinations, simultaneously in a chart. More the patterns, stronger will be the tendency giving more solid results. These combinations in the birth chart indicate a life time tendency.

In case you get a Prashna, a question, on whether a person was lying or being honest in a particular situation and you do not have any birth details then study the prashna chart. But remember that the prashna kundalini gives accurate answers only if the querent is sincere and earnest about the question. Prashna does not work for casual and idle gossip sort of questions.

Then there are times where one must not speak the truth even if one knows it. In Sanskrit, ‘Na bruyath satyam apriyam’, which means that one must not speak the truth if this is going to result in a disaster for the good people. Truth or honesty is not always an objective thing, it can also be subjective at times.

thank you for the post. Moon and mars are correctly observed for me and my spouse.
Another question about Rahu-Ketu union on divisional chart. I have this union in D2, 16, 20, 24, 40, 45. But i dont see any effect of it as mentioned in the post ( or maybe i am unaware of it ). What can i look out for if i have such combination.

    Hi mam,

This is a very insightful and the past few articles have been extremely relevant to situations in my life at the moment.

I had a two questions unrelated to this article that i was hoping to ask you:

    1) When one uses a prashna, lenormand, tarot, etc for a specific question- are the answers that we see fluid ( open to change) or fixed? For example, a prashna shows that something will happen in X time frame, and the lenormand/tarot shows that it will happen as well but the timeframe /circumstances appear to constantly be changing. In this case, which do you rely on?

    2) For issues surrounding childbirth, you have written that the best remedy is the sri sukta with the additional verse from the Ashta-Laxmi stotra. However, in cases where are afflictions are higher, will the following mantra from the devi saptshati work: [ सर्वाबाधाविनिर्मुक्तो धनधान्यसुतान्वितः। मनुष्यो मत्प्रसादेन भविष्यति न संशयः॥] or is there alternative that would be better?

    Many thanks

      Hi there
no reading is completely fixed, everything can be modified to some extent. the extent depends on the power of the remedial measures and your personal energy.

but there is one thing i like with the cards, they can be used fr ‘card magic’ ie change the energy flowing.
and if you are used to working with the cards, this happens very naturally.

i have given what has worked fr my clients. it depends on the intention/intensity. casual/sceptical approach never works.
and as always, you can use whatever makes sense to you.
the actual pujas for adopting a child are a bit extensive. if your brahmin knows how to do them then these can be done before going for assisted reproductive tech/ surrogacy etc also

Thanks for yet another useful post 🙏 one confusion:
“If the 2nd house has the Capricorn, Aquarius signs, ie signs owned by Saturn and a malefic Saturn is influencing the 2nd lord.”
    – here Saturn is the 2nd lord..the wording is confusing … do you mean that if the 2nd house is ruled by Saturn and aspected by Saturn? If Saturn is ascendant won’t it be less malefic?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
this is applicable for two ascendants – Sagittarius and Capricorn. Obviously he owns the 2nd. but for the combination to give the result, he also has to be capable of inauspicious results and also aspect the 2nd. ‘malefic’ means unable to give auspicious results.
fr Capricorn Saturn cannot be a direct malefic as he is the lagnesh. but he can give inauspicious results if he is debilitated, combust, low strength, ashtakvarga scores etc.
fr Sagittarius he is a medium level malefic as he owns 2nd and 3rd. one marak and one trishadaya.

Thanks for clarifying. Please tell me if I am interpreting correctly: For Capricorn ascendant, a Saturn in 5th is in friendly sign and if highest degree, atmakarak is good. But in addition, Venus, lord of 5th in 8th house, and aspecting 2nd house can be a problem?

      2. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
Saturn – rajyog, very very well placed

Venus is yogkarak – why should do think he is badly placed in 8th? use him, he will give several benefits.

What if the Kendra or Kona houses are having retrograde planets…..
Would there be any additional impact on 2nd house and it’s features…

    Hello Ma’am,

I wanted to ask you how does one build courage of conviction? I find that I’m very sensitive and susceptible to other people’s comments and opinions. This was to the extent that at some point I completely stopped sharing my opinion on anything. Even when I think of saying something, I’m already anticipating the backlash/disagreements and then leave it thinking it is not worth my energy. Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you!

      Hi there
worship the Sun in any way you can.
ie Arghya, suryanamaskar, sit in the early morning/evening sun, Gayatri or any mantra of your choice etc

    Namaste Madam,

Really missing your posts on vedanta, simple energy practices for everyday and other esoteric posts on popularly misinterpreted aspects of our culture especially real meanings of certain shlokas. Your post on meaning of just the first verse of Sri Sukta is so powerful! I reread so many of your posts just to feel more grounded and energized. It is amazing.

    Pranams to you

    Happy Krishna Janmashtami to you.
