Are you a ‘good soul’ or a ‘bad soul’? This can be judged only at the moment of your exit from the physical body, the moment of ‘death‘, not before that. And only you can judge this, no one else can. This is the final test of this lifetime, you do not get a ‘re-test’.
All life is governed by karma, the law of cause and effect. Every individual soul/ jivatma has to endure /enjoy the fruits of its own actions. This law is operated by Conscious Time, the Kaal, also called the Karmaphaldaata or the Ishwar.
There are three types of karmic fruits –
- Sanchita – the accumulated store from your uncountable past lives.
- Prarabdha – that portion of the total sum which is active in the current lifetime. You choose this yourself at the moment of your birth. And you have to go through this portion, there is no ‘escape’.
- Aagami – is the fruits of the actions which you are performing in this life. These will be enjoyed/endured immediately in this life itself or these may be endured/enjoyed in the next lives. Aagami is very important because you can actively use this Aagami to reduce the intensity of the active negative Prarabdha. Or to increase the intensity of the active happy Prarabdha.
In the language of Jyotish, Saturn decides the quantum of Prarabdha karma which you will experience in this life. Saturn is linked to duration of the lifetime, the strength of the body frame and its capacity to endure. And the other planets fine tune this Prarabdha karma. This is the real reason why most of us are scared of Saturn. He is the Son of the Sun. The Conscious Intelligence of the Divine Light. He is practically an independent force in the horoscope. Only Saturn does not need the other planets to deliver karmic results, as he is quite capable of manifesting them on his own power.
The position and power of Saturn in a horoscope is the biggest indicator of the overall auspiciousness of a person.

The current life duration is decided at the moment of birth. As the lifetime ends, the physical body is discarded and in a systematic manner. First the pran/ vital energy is systematically withdrawn from the Annamaykosh/physical shell. And with this, the effects of the other planets on this physical shell also gradually cease. In this too, Saturn’s effects are the last to withdraw from the shell. And also just before your new birth, it is again Saturn who acts first to dull your Consciousness/Intelligence. This allows the karmic fruit options of your new life choice to bind themselves to your jivatma/individual soul. And then the other planets of your new horoscope start influencing your life.
Then the other planet who has an extraordinary influence at the instant before physical death is Ketu. He exerts his final influence and his energy guides the jivatma / individual soul through its onward path out from the shell. Ketu is all learnings that you have with you, he is the summary of all the wisdom that you have gained in all your past lives. Ketu is all the complete knowledge of all your past lives. So during this brief instant, just before you exit, you have the complete information of your past karmic actions. You know what needs to be done to balance your karmic fruits. And in this instant, the nature and circumstances of your next life are decided.
If you are a more evolved jivatma, ie if you have access and some control over your Vijnyanmaykosh then you can actively choose with your discriminatory intelligence/ Vijnyan. If you are not at that level of intelligent discrimination then, the choice will be made spontaneously by your karmic fruits. All this happens at this instant of exit from the old body shell.
Thus the nature and the circumstances of death reveal the true nature of the individual soul.
Jivatma with positive karma exit with a peaceful state of mind and their Anteyshti /final rites are done with minimum fuss. Their exit is auspicious and they get the opportunity to choose their next birth situation.
Average jivatmas generally suffer through some illness at the time of exit. Their minds are troubled, in pain or simply confused. Such minds, in turmoil during the exit, cannot really focus on their next life choice.
And the negative karma jivatma often endure through violence which causes their exit. Seen in deaths through accidents, attacks, or in natural disasters. Here their minds are in a state of complete turbulence and they cannot focus on their next life choice at all. Some of these jivatmas may get stuck here and cause hauntings. This category also includes deaths in unexpected locations or situations where the body is not available for the proper final rites.
The only exception here is the soldiers who die defending the motherland. At the time of exit, the mind is completely focused on the kshatriya duty, ie defence of the nation and this is a very pure and strong emotion. This intense mental focus helps them exit on an energy high and they get the best option for their next life.
Thus a person during his lifetime may be perceived as ‘good’ or ’bad’. But the real test is the moment of exit. The nature of his mind at this critical event is the only indicator of a person’s ‘goodness’ or ‘badness’. And only he knows his own reality. Others can only guess.
