Jupiter in Punarvasu: Opportunities and Challenges

Jupiter is a slow moving graha. He stays in one sign for about 12months and thus stays in one Nakshatra for an average of 4-5 months. He is currently in Gemini and Mithun rashi has 3 nakshatra  – Mruga Aradra and Punarvasu in it. And in this time Jupiter has literally run through Mruga and Aradra in just 2 months each. In Mruga from 10th Apr till 14th Jun and in Aradra from 14th Jun till 13th Aug. This is his ultra-fast motion, called the Atichar movement. Atichar Jupiter gives exceptionally bad results and we can all see the effect he is having on the global finance structures.

Jupiter will enter the Punarvasu nakshatra on 13th Aug 2025 and exit it on 18th June 2026! Thus he will be in Punarvasu for an incredible 10 months! In Punarvasu, he will be going forwards, backwards and then again forwards, slowly. Nakshatra work more on the mind, the perception, the emotions and the intelligence. Thus most of us will feel our Jupiter keywords going round and round in circles in these 10months.

  • Enters Punarvasu in Gemini sign – 13 Aug
  • Enters Cancer Punarvasu – 18 Oct
  • Reenters Gemini Punarvasu retrograde – 5 Dec
  • Reenters Cancer Punarvasu – 2 Jun 2026
  • Exits Punarvasu – 18 Jun 2026

Punarvasu is the 7th nakshatra in sequence. It is ruled by the Nakshatra devata Aditi and is linked to Jupiter. It lies between 20°00′ Gemini and 3°20′ Cancer, ie it is partly in Gemini and partly in Cancer, so is also connected to Mercury and Moon.

  • Punah means – again, cleansing, still, anew, further, etc.
  • And Vasu means – water, wealth, radiance, soul, house, jewel, gold, etc.
  • So Punarvasu is ‘the ability to regain wealth’ or ‘repeat auspiciousness’.

Punarvasu is a supportive, creative, resourceful and expansive nakshatra. It is symbolised by an arrow which unfailingly reaches its goal. And it is also represented by a quiver of arrows which indicates its abundant resources and its capacity to defend/ use these resources with courage and confidence.

The Nakshatra Devata Aditi is the mother of all creation. She is the greatest Goddess, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. She is Rta, the inherent cosmic order. Thus Punarvasu is an intelligent energy, it has a natural curiosity and a genuine thirst for knowledge. It is capable of deep thinking and analysis. It values traditions culture, religion, spirituality and Dharma. It is willing to help others and is genuinely kind optimistic and resilient. It has the enormous capability to recover from any situation, it can spring back in a positive manner.

This nakshatra rules over all those who make a valuable contribution to the society. Professions connected to education, research, philosophy, spiritual disciplines, counselling, social work, healthcare, etc have its energy. And Jupiter in Punarvasu for so long is technically capable of giving a lot of positivity. But no planetary combination is unconditionally positive or unconditionally negative. And the results of a planet in transit depend on its birth position in the individual chart and the ongoing Mahadasha/ Antardasha sequence.

A detailed image of Jupiter, showcasing its distinctive brown and blue bands against a backdrop of stars in space.

For analysing nakshatra level transit, the simplest method is the Janma Navtara chakra. (Advanced students can use Ashtapadamadala chakra or Sarvatobhadra chakra or Ashtakvarga Koshta analysis for personalised readings)

You will need to know your birth Moon Nakshatra, it is also called the Janma Nakshatra. It is the lunar mansion in which your birth Moon is located. All Astrology apps/ websites/ Panchangs on Vedic Jyotish/ Hindu astrology will give you this information.

Do go through the detailed meanings of the 9 Tara categories in my posts – link here and link here. So counted from Punarvasu the Navtara chakra will be –

  • Vishakha, Poorvabhadrapada, Punarvasu – Janma tara
  • Swati, Shatataraka, Aradra – Sampat tara
  • Chitra, Dhanishtha, Mruga – Vipat tara
  • Hasta, Shravan, Rohini – Kshema tara
  • Uttaraphalguni, Uttarashashadha, Krutika – Pratyari tara
  • Poorvaphalguni, Poorvashadha, Bharani – Sadhaka tara
  • Magha, Mula, Ashvini – Naidhana tara
  • Ashleysha, Jyeshtha, Revati – Mitra tara
  • Pushya, Anuradha, Uttarabhadrapada – Atimitra tara

So, if your birth Moon nakshatra is Swati, Shatataraka, Aradra, Hasta, Shravan, Rohini, Poorvaphalguni, Poorvashadha, Bharani, Ashleysha, Jyeshtha, Revati,  Pushya, Anuradha or Uttarabhadrapada then you can expect more positive results

And if your birth Moon nakshatra is Chitra, Dhanishtha, Mruga, Uttaraphalguni, Uttarashashadha, Krutika, Magha, Mula or Ashvini, then the negative effects are more likely than the positive ones.

And the birth Moon nakshatras Vishakha, Poorvabhadrapada or Punarvasu, will see mixed results depending on the power of Jupiter in your birth chart. But because it is Janma tara, these results will have a long term impact on your life.

The Positives of Jupiter’s Transit Through Punarvasu Nakshatra

If Jupiter in Punarvasu is positive for you then his keywords will support you for these 10months. You will feel hopeful about life in general. And there will be some good opportunities for growth. You will feel optimistic about your projects and you can consider taking some bold moves in this time. Or you can review your ongoing projects with a  fresh perspective. In any case he will grant you some expansion.

You will want to learn more, read more, to expand your knowledge. This period is highly suitable for academics, school and college work, also for spiritual studies. Use this time to learn the practical application of the theories you learn. You will feel motivated to earn and also save money. You may get some good investment opportunities in this time. Your advisors and seniors will give you good advice and support you.

This Jupiter will also support health. So if you are suffering from some long term issues, you can get the correct remedy in this time. Jupiter can support both physical and emotional healing so intend that you will address your past  ill-health issues or any past traumas during this time.

Jupiter is the natural Dharmesh. So go to your Kuldevata temple in your ancestral village, request his blessings. Also pay your dues to your Pitru, your departed ancestors and to the Pitrudevata. And follow your Guru’s directions or make it a point to read at least one shlok from the Bhagwat Gita daily. This will expand your mind and open up any blocks in your chart. Do this especially when he is in the Cancer part of Punarvasu, it will give better results.

But then, no position is unconditionally positive or unconditionally negative. So herr are some Malefic results of Jupiter transiting in Punarvasu.

If Jupiter is a functional malefic, or badly placed in your birth chart, or if you are in a malefic Dasha then you must be alert. I consider malefic Jupiter to be a very dangerous energy. Because he can get you into serious trouble and you will not even realize what is happening. And you may actually defend the very situation or person who is a danger to you.

You may suffer from excessive idealism or unrealistic optimism or an innocence bordering on stupidity. Jupiter is the foundation of an auspicious life so he is linked to your spouse, family, deity, Guru, resources, money, finances, gold. Malefic Jupiter can make you naively trust others in these important areas of your life and then you can get into serious trouble. You may miss your goals, targets, deadlines and not even be aware that you are actually damaging yourself.

You may be misguided in the matters of Dharma, religion, spirituality, wisdom and knowledge. You may think that you are superior to those around you and behave arrogantly. And this can create enemies for you with long-term implications. In this time you may not be able to focus on one thing for long and your judgement may be affected. Do not adopt Adharmic ideas as the negative effect can linger for even several lifetimes.

The main effect of a malefic Jupiter in Punarvasu is that you will fail to learn from your past mistakes. You will repeat your mistakes and all this will eventually reduce the auspiciousness in your life and weaken your life foundations.

Wooden letters spelling 'Hinduism' on a wooden surface.

Now lets get deeper into the Punarvasu energy. Every Nakshatra has 4 pada /quarters, and each Nakshatra quarter is ruled by a sign/ rashi. So for Punarvasu nakshatra –

  • 1st Pad/quarter – ruled by Aries
  • 2nd Pad/quarter – ruled by Taurus,
  • 3rd Pad/quarter – ruled by Gemini
  • 4th Pad/quarter – ruled by Cancer.

Jupiter transiting through the various quarters will give different results. You can get the pada/ quarter level transit from your chosen Jyotish app/ website. And do try and get into the habit of checking the Panchangam regularly. This will help you remain aware of the planetary movements and the events that they trigger in your life.

The 1st Pada is connected to Aries so when Jupiter transits in this pada, all his activities will take on an adventurous note. Everyone will want to use their talents, skills and ideas in new initiatives and projects. Young men, army personnel etc will be more in the limelight. This energy can also be negatively used eg – terrorist attacks and other misuse of the fighting capacity of these young men.

Its 2nd Pada is ruled by Taurus so in this time Jupiter will be more focussed on money, the treasuries and gold. Again things can go positive or negative depending on the individual/ national horoscopes. Also in this time, women, journalists, creative people etc will be more active, either using or misusing their Jupiter keywords.

Then the 3rd Pada of Punarvasu is under the influence of Gemini. So in this time the moveable assets, trade, finances, and stock markets may strongly rally or not as per the individual /national charts. This is also a strong quarter, its energy if used properly will give long term results. So do try to make use of this time.

And the 4th Pada which is ruled by the Cancer is the most auspicious of the lot. If you have Jupiter favourable for you, then use this time to gain, to create strong roots in whatever you do in life. You will get the necessary luck and support in your endeavours. He is approaching and is very near his highest degree of exaltation/ paramuccha degree, so is ‘pleased to give his results’. Use this time intelligently, convert his power into something material.

Punarvasu is the capacity to infinitely amplify the auspiciousness in your life. And Jupiter is pure auspiciousness. Jupiter staying for so long in Punarvasu can be very helpful if you are able to understand his power and channelise it in your life.

Hi ma’am, I hope you’re well. Just writing in to let you know that I have been a reader of your work since 2019 and appreciate your wisdom and your practical insights, as well as how you do not hesitate in offering your knowledge through the method of a direct and straightforward form of compassion, even if your readers may not understand the depth/find the insights too clear for their liking.

I have been revisiting your posts on Sri Vidya and your older writing on some of the temples you’ve visited. Recently, I find that tantra has been gaining light in the mainstream due to rather superficial podcast culture, and as a sex psychotherapist, many of my young clients as well as students visit powerful kshetras without knowing the depth of all that happens there…one of us visited Maa Kamakhya and got a brilliant darshan and then as we were visiting Maa Chinnamasta, a thief pretending to be the temple guardian robbed our group of our iphones, our cash, our wallets and more. We found the CCTV footage and filed FIRs to no avail. Apparently theft, harrassment, manipulation, sexual abuse, and cases of murder are increasingly common inside these keshtras – what is your view on why such levels of duplicity exist within sacred spaces without proper systems of accountability? Karma and runanubandhana aside, would be interested in your thoughts on the increasing visibility of tantric keshtras and their pros and cons for the mainstream? Esp young women who are now exploring spirituality and engaging in solo-travel with much joy, only to be manipulated at these sites.

Thank you and many prayers to you as usual!

      Hi there
This happens because people want short-cuts. And I have already written somewhere, tantra is walking on the razor’s edge. You cannot even think of a ‘short-cut’. If you do, she will punish.

Most people today associate Shri Vidya popularly known as ‘Tantra’ with physical sexual activity. Even thinking like this is extremely insulting to the Devi and she will punish.

Shri Vidya is purely from the Ved. the entire Shri Vidya is founded on only one Sukta in the RG Ved.
(you can imagine the information /wisdom/ practical knowledge contained in the Vedas.)
It is from the Ved, so it has to be understood intellectually, then absorbed and then as you understand what it is saying, you become Shri Herself, with all Her attributes.

This is not easy, only the rarest of the rare can achieve this.
But we all have to try for this, as once you step on this path, success is guaranteed, either in this life or after millions of lives. But you have to start.

And do not expect short-cuts. There are no short-cuts.
Don’t expect that your Guru will do some magical ‘shakti-paat’ and you will become some ‘Goddess’.

The process is the same for all of us.
You will ‘clean out’ all the Kosh, then you will understand the Concept. Then with this 100% understanding you will practice the Concept, and then as you do this you will eventually become that Concept. And then you are Everything, and also beyond Everything.

And you have to do everything yourself. Don’t expect that Devi will do it for you. She will not.

All the possible Wisdom is in the vedant, but to understand it, you have to derive it for yourself. And if you follow the steps, you will. This is the guarantee of all the Atmajnyani Mahapurush Gurus who have said the same thing.

You have to work on yourself. No one will do it for you. Even your Guru will guide you till a certain level. Don’t expect to be ’spoon-fed’!

And first find the correct Guru. I have written a lot on the Guru.
If you choose the wrong Guru, you will suffer very very badly.

In my life, I was fortunate to have a Guru to guide me right from my birth.
When I was a child, he would give me blessings, prasad, fruits or sweets etc.
when I was older, he started pushing me to think. I started asking questions and then it was even more strenuous on the intellectual level. Because he never gave any direct answers.
He always says that Guru speaks in ‘samsdhist bhasha’, ie it is always through symbolism.
To understand what is being said, you have to literally force your brain to work. And it is more painful than going to the gym.
Vedic sanskrit with its samadhist bhasha is extremely maddening. And all the Tantra books are written in the same style. this is to ensure that the knowledge reaches only the prepared and the deserving students.
I think our Maharishis wrote about Reality in this very typical way because if you understand it you will 100% naturally become an Atmajnyani yourself.
And if you do not understand it, if you fail in any way whatsoever, if you try to chew on more than you can handle, if you try for shortcuts – you will either go mad, or you will throw the books away or insult the Ved / become a nastik.
Enter tantra only and only after you have read and understood to some extent at least – the Prasthan traya – ie Bhagwat Gita, the 10 main upanishad and Brahmasutra – all with their Bhashyas by Adishankaracharya.

and the best part about the path is that your progress is ‘saved’ ie when you leave this body you will continue on the path in your next body also.

You have to throw away everything you knew till date and then relearn everything. It is an extremely tiring and typical intellectual exercise. But for such a prize, this strain is accepted.

Thanks for your thoughts and agreed with your analysis of the importance of self-effort- we do have a wonderful guru, and none of us use or are even vaguely associating tantra with sexuality. We feel very strongly against this strange reduction of the depth of tantric practices into the new age verbiage of “divine feminine” “goddess” linguistics.

Infact, due to our incident, the pandits inside the temple were called out for their heavy money-grabbing practices going on right inside, a few priests have been found dead in the temple pond which the police was clearing up and our incident ended up shining light on the heavy nexus of crime inside this kshetra.

At least in our psychotherapy healers collective, we don’t feel “punished” by the Goddess at all, rather we feel like this incident helped us spread awareness on the realities of what happens in the name of tantra, especially towards women. It’s sad that on a material realm crime is so common today, and even though the personal responsibility of the seeker can be high, the systems of support are so weak.

        Thank you mam.

        Hi there
i made some general observations as your earlier comment was for general obsevations.

personally – if i lose something in a teerth kshetra, i let it go, shoes are the common thing which get stolen in such places. it means that some of your karma has been taken by the person who stole the shoes.
as a general guideline, if the teerthyatra is difficult or if you randomly suffer more during the travel then it is good.

but obviously if your identity papers were stolen then it becomes a legal issue which has to be taken care of.
so in this case the Devi acted through you, and some criminals were caught. this is a good thing. She must have wanted to teach a lesson to the unscrupulous priests of her temple and you were the medium.

in such high powered teerths nothing can happen without the wish of the Devi /Devata of that teerth.

if you are not of Indian origin, ie you and your friends are foreign and women then you must remember 2 things –
generally non-Indians eat heavy red meat and alcohol very frequently, like practically every day, and thus they have very heavy levels of tamo-gun.
if they do pujas of Bhagwan Shankar /Devi Parvati for the good of the world then they can move very fast in their route. and if they use this energy for evil, it will rebound very very badly on them personally. but getting this level of tamogun to move in the first place is difficult.
and second – if some unscrupulous practitioner notices this tamogun bomb in you, and especially if you are a woman then he will target you to make use of this energy for his benefit. in this case also you may initially enjoy the experiences but eventually you will severely suffer.

“the systems of support are so weak.” is an incorrect way of looking at all this..
if the prize is so great, you will be tested at that greatest level. so expect all problems in your life. and no support either. if you lose your faith/trust Shraddha/Vishwas, you will have failed.
look at the really great people, they will have all suffered in their lives.
greater the position, greater will be the level of suffering. and you will have to find the resources within you, manage your body / mind/ brains so that you deal with the situation and yet not give up.
if you are from India – watch the movie Chhava . this movie shows just 10% of what was done to Raje Sambhaji and yet it is unbearable to watch. yet despite it all, he held on to Devi Jagadamba Bhavani. on the purely material levels, because he was killed like that, the Marathas went mad with anger and revenge and in 1 generation had destroyed the mughals, taken Delhi and marched upto Attock in current Pakistan.
and on the spiritual level, only Devi and his jivatma knows what he must have got in return…
so never feel despondent. people have had worse than you and yet held on to the Devi.

Hello, I must thank you sincerely for this study, especially as it has relevant implications for my present and possibly future situation. There are times when, without necessarily being eager for knowledge, we receive information as a personal message. As far as you are concerned, and I cannot say much more in a public publication, I cannot help thinking that the fact that our ‘Sadgurus’ were gurubandhus (गुरुबंधु) has something to do with it. So thank you, and a big THANK YOU to Them.

Hi, Jup for Cancer is malefic. Will this entail only negative results during this period?

If Jup.B is in Gemini, on one hand Jup in 11th is considered good, on the other, Jup in enemy house will be uncomfortable – so malefic results is indicated right?

On another channel, I learnt that wearing Pushkaraj is not advised if Jup is malefic (or debilitated? cant recall). Though I couldn’t find more info on this elsewhere. What’s your take on it?

Similarly, doing mantra jap for malefic planets will reduce their malefic nature or will it add to their energy and do more harm?

    Thanks!

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there

i have written some posts on Jupiter giving malefic results. do go through them as you may be able to relate your thought processes and maybe understand how Jupiter behaves in your life.
and if you are aware of this you can use his power productively.
eg – someone i know has venus in 6th – maran karak sthan – he is a lawyer. he continually works in an unbalanced environemnt. so this venus gets an outlet for his energy and gives lesser interference in his personal life.
so observe yourself and come to your own conclusions.

No stone should be worn as a lifetime stone. these are limited to dasha periods etc.
we can wear such stones of malefic planets also but again for limited periods and only if a proper Jyotishi has seen your chart and recommended it.

doing a basic mantra jaap – eg once a week – is always going to be helpful to balance the energy of the planet.
the easiest is the ‘brahma murari ….. ” shlok. as you are remembering these daily, so its like a small drop of medicine you take daily. it is always going to be helpful.

but if you want to do complicated anushthans, or pujas for specific planets, then show your chart to a jyotishi.

    Namaste Tejaswini ji,

Thanks a lot for this post🙏🏻 Since last few months I got the opportunity to learn many new interesting (spiritual) things and learning is something I deeply cherish. But Shani Dev has put me through a wringer. Life has become so very hectic since July that I have no time to study or even practise what I have learned. Emotionally it’s been a roller coaster, for the first time I am not able to express to myself what emotions are churning within me (Combust Mercury in Cancer is the culprit, methinks). Expenses are terrible. I feel like I am going through a Sade Sati, but I am not. Venus-Saturn is a kind of hell and I have 2 more years to go🥺 I often remember what you wrote on this dasha.

Jupiter is favourable in my birth chart and as per your post his transit in Punarvasu is good for me. Praying things slow down a bit and also situation improves. I have a lot of work to do on myself (self-healing) and I wish I get the time. Your post gave me some hope🙏🏻

    Much gratitude

    Hi Madam,

We should be dharmik but at the same time should also be practical and should not let others get advantage of us by appearing overtly sensitive/kind.

But there are some situations, mostly legal, where because of one small mistake/overlooking some points, we end up in situation where someone else tries to and almost always gets the benefit of it.

I know that it is due to our own past karma that we get trapped in this situation and ideally we should go through it without creating any additional karma ( by intending bad for other oppressing/exploiting situation).
But then emotions are very high and its also not possible to repress them, and even if we are successful to do it, then our response would again be muted/not lively/cowardly, because internally we are trying to rationalize it using karma theory.

So best way to go ahead is giving befitting response physically via talking/acting, but not actually being emotionally involved/charged while doing so? I mean how to dissociate one from the other?

    Thanks

    Namaste Ma’am,

I always keep a lookout for your posts- I am also learning astrology and your blog is a goldmine of information on Jyotish.

I was just wondering about the Navtara sequence- it follows the same Dasha sequence, right? So if Janma Nakshatra is Punarvasu, then Sampat Tara would be Saturn ruled Nakshatras _ Pushya, Anuradha, Uttara Bhadrapada, correct?

I am also realising that there is a significant Intuition component needed in Jyotish – One can by logic figure out the math and do analysis of charts, recognise patterns etc. But Insight can’t be learnt- Is that the gift of Ketu Bhagawan?

I have my Lagna in Punarvasu and past transits of Jupiter here have been good for me- I also start Jupiter mahadasha so I am hopeful.

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
      the sequence is the same.
but the planets do not ‘rule’ the Nakshatras. the Nakshatra Devatas rule them.

there is a significant Intuition component – but this does not mean that you can avoid reading the books. in fact ideally we should be learning these texts, BPHS, jaimini sutra etc by heart. but today no one has that level of commitment and thats why the highest level of Jyotish ie Dev prashna is slowly vanishing.
and for intuition to really work, you have to do puja of Devi Gayatri / Suryadev and Bhagwan Ganpati.
