Mahakumbh 2025 Mauni Amavasya on Sangam Ghat

This Mahakumbh, we had already done Snan in the Triveni sangam on Paush Purnima and also on Makar Sankranti. But randomly we decided to go to Shri Kshetra Prayagraj on Mauni Amavasya again for the second Shahi snan.

It must have been a very strong direction from the Devi, that unbelievably we were back in her presence, standing in the Triveni teerth on 29th January 2025. Our third Snan in this Mahakumbh. This was a completely unplanned visit. We drove the whole night. It was 14hrs drive and we reached Prayagraj in the morning of 29th Jan. Surprisingly, and unbelievably we were able to enter the city and park the car.

Our first choice was to try to go to the Arail ghat as we were so impressed with the arrangements there. But this time we did not have this option. So it was Sangam Ghat on the Ganga river side for us.

We parked our car in a parking spot. Then we got an electric rickshaw from the parking place till the nearest point possible near the Ghat. Then we walked for 1km or so. We were then lucky to get a cycle rickshaw, this took us for another 3-4km. And then we walked the last 3km or so till the rivers edge.

The riverfront of the Sangam Ghat was extremely crowded. It was the Mauni Amavasya after all and standing on the river bank was a task in itself. We were part of 10 crore people, teerthyatris of Sanatan Dharma in that city at that time. And it was a massively powerful feeling.

We all may be diverse, look different, speak different languages but we are all the same. We give our children the same names, Pratham, Priya, Padma, Suraj, Laxmi, Shubham, all are the same from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat, Tamil nadu to Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. On the roads we saw cars with registered in JK, MP, RJ, CH, CG, MH, HP, UP, UK, DL, HR, DD…. Our Bharat is ours… and it is such a magnificent feeling!

We did the Snan at the riverfront itself. The temperatures had increased in these past 15days and it was a sunny day. So the water was not as so cold as compared to 13th and 14th Jan 2025. We all the Arghya with our respective manasik mantras as we stood in the river. Imagine the mantra mixed water flowing out from our cupped palms, falling into the river. She amplifying the mantra infinitely and saturating us with Her power . But the power of the area ‘felt’ different. Despite the crores of people, the area felt ‘alone’ in a way. Amavasya is the power of Devi Kali, the Devi of the Sahasrar, the Merger of all Duality. It is Her Face, the Mirror in which the Eternal Shiva sees His Reflection. The utterly magnificent Devi Kali, the Supreme Devi of Sanatan Dharma.

Then we all came out of the river, found a suitable spot, changed, wore fresh clothes. Threw the wet clothes away. Wore the tilak on our foreheads, it is our own proclamation of our Dharma. Did our namaskars to the Triveni and started walking back. Walked for 2-3 km. Then found a cycle rickshaw to take us for 3-4 km. Then walked for another 1-2km. Then found a few bikers willing to take us on double seat till the parking lot. Got in the car, found a ‘Bhandara’ ate some food as Her prasad. Thanked Her for her Infinite kindness. Again drove back 14hrs in the night, reached our place in the early morning. And back to the office the next day.

So, repeating myself, if you are capable of travelling, do go and have an auspicious bath/Snan at the Triveni Sangam during this Mahakumbh 2025. It is an incredible indescribable experience. You have time till Maha Shivratri.

Namaste Tejaswini ji, please clarify about Vimshottari Dasha: when I make a kundali in Drik Panchang it shows several versions of VD: saura, sawan etc. Which one should I use?

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
there is always a lot of confusion on this, what “year” to use for Dasha.
the Year is always the Vedic Samvatsar. and it is from Chaitra Shukla pratipada to Phalgun amavasya.
so in the modern approximation – choose whatever corresponds to “365 days year” in the app.

Is it necessary to discard clothes after taking snan? Is there a significance if you do or do not? Thank you so much 🙏🏼

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
it depends on how you feel. or if the location demands it.

like there is one place in Kashi where if you are lucky enough to go for Snan, you have to discard the wet clothes.
they are generally left at a designated place, not thrown in the trash bin.
and we are supposed to ideally wear pure cotton when doing snan, not nylon or any artificial fibres.

we go for snan in haridwar and rishikesh very frequently. there we do not throw the clothes.
even in the last paush purnima and makar sankranti snan we did not.

personal opinion – i think this is necessary when the deity form invoked is Devi Kali .

      Namaste Tejaswini ji,

I am so moved by your answer…. I have many times thought that if I were to be with my Ishta Devata, I would want nothing in this world. It would be the ultimate place for me to be, where I’d be so complete that I’d have no desires.

I have been praying to both my Ishta Devata and Devi to help me visit Kumbh Mela for one day (non-Shahi Snan day). Due to my circumstances I have to return the same day home. Nobody in my family or friend circle or acquaintances are going to Kumbh Mela. I contacted few people who live elsewhere in UP, but they were not able to help me. Some people are saying it is not safe for a woman to go alone. I have, so far, not been able to find one-day tour packages. I can book tickets, but I need a dependable person to transport me to the river banks and back. Because I understand its a long way from the airport plus have to walk some distance. I have never been to Prayagraj before. I know a pilgrimage is possible only when the Deity calls you, otherwise it won’t happen.

I have been so inspired by your posts that I want to go to Sangam. No idea how it will work out.

      Much gratitude

        Hi there

i have been to several mandirs and teerths of Sanatan Dharma in this life.

as long as you are in the Gruhast stage, teerthyatras are compulsory.

post retirement – vaanprasth can stay at home and do sadhana at home.

if you are not used to travelling alone, or walking for 5-6km in a day, then it may be a bit difficult.

    Namaste mam,
Why could you not go to Arail Ghat? Was it closed on 29th.

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
      it was not closed.
just that we were able to reach civil lines and had to park our car here.
roads were barricaded and vehicles were not allowed to ply so the closer ghat was the sangam.

        Hello Ma’am

I wanted your opinion. I wanted to start chanting the Devi mantra Om Aim Hreem Kleem Chamundaye Viche. But I read it has to be given by a guru or you have to be initiated by a guru.

I’m a lay person. Moreover I don’t stay in India. From where do I get myself initiated? What happens if I just start reciting the mantra maybe just once a day? I also have started thinking about reciting the Gayatri mantra daily however wanted your input on the Devi mantra? What is the correct way to pronounce it and do it? I’m again emphasizing it that I’m a novice. I want to try to open my Chakras and learn about the occult. However I do not want to mess with the energy of the mantra.

        Thank you
        Mona

        Hi there
At present the Maagh Navratri is going on.
If you can read Sanskrit then read the Devi Mahatmya in this time.
And if you cannot read, then listen to its recitation. Premprakash Dubey has recited it nicely.
Then talk to Her, just like you would normally speak to a friend. Tell her that you want to do this mantra and request her to give you a sign.
Then light a lamp with this intention that you want Her to give you some sign.
Keep a track of the events in your life in the next 3 days. Random things, dreams etc. if you get a signal then go ahead.
Tell her that She is your Guru and you have taken the Diksha from Her directly. Be very sincere about it. Tell her to be kind to you.
You can recite it 108 times in your mind after you do your morning pujas.

    So inspired by your post!

Seeking your guidance on a few things

    1) Regarding mantra. Does it matter what is chanted? Usually during Ganga snaan I have chanted om namah shivaya… is it appropriate here? To chant something longer, might need to refer to the words (can phone be taken to the river?)
    2) You mention abandoning wet clothes since you invoked Kali Maa since it was Amavasya. I also like Her energy, but I don’t know if next week would be suitable for that?
    3) Logistics during snaan – what to do with belongings especially phone? Companion guard at riverbank and take turns? What about footwear?
    4) Any guidance regarding nearby temples?

    Thanks in advance.

      Hi there
      1. it is always your choice of mantra.

i have just listed out the more common deities who are invoked at such teerths. for people who need guidance.

if you are doing pujas of some other deity etc do it.

      2. Amavasyas are Devi Kali. invoke Her or not, this tithi is Hers.

i do not know what Devi you should invoke.
the choice is yours, not anyone else’s

      3. one person stays with the stuff while others do snan.
but things can get lost, stolen or misplaced. or more correctly the Devi will take as per her will.

      4. we did not go to any, so cannot comment.

just wanted to share my experience and joy. managed to do the triveni snaan a few days ago. it was truly blissful. the energy was so potent, i almost did not want to get out. was fortunate to have been able to leisurely and comfortably offer gratitude to surya and other dieties, chant desired mantras etc.

your posts inspired me a lot, especially as a solo female who came traveling from outside of india (luckily i managed to find a companion)! grateful to have been able to represent my family.

despite long flight journey, many hours in traffic, walking, dust etc – it went off smoothly with divine grace. as you said, when the calling comes, one must go!

    Hi Mam,

After reading your posts I felt I should visit Mahakumbh. Though the train tickets were not available,i made impromptu plan to go via flight which is almost 4 to 5 times costlier now. Luckily got boat via arail ghat to sangam and took the dip too. ( Moon was transiting my birth moon sign on that day, coincidentally)

As return journey tickets are still not available, planned to visit nearby places like Vindhyachal, Varanasi like many of the people coming to Prayagraj.

    Thanks

    Namaste Tejaswini ji,

I just returned home after taking dips in Sangam. To begin with, there were many uncertainties and delays. Initially I was not getting the right tickets. Then I had no idea how I would manage the transportation/visit/snan as a sole female traveler. Nothing was working out. I was extremely depressed. The last several months have been hell due to my Ashtam Shani. I lost my mom & many things were not working out despite my numerous efforts. And in the coming days Shani’s transit in Pisces and Pisces stellium would be another big problem. 14 days ago I had been crying thinking that the Devi might not want me to visit. Within barely an hour an ex-colleague who had visited Sangam some days back spoke to me and gave me some fantastic advice. Afterwards, I could get the tickets I wanted. Later transportation got arranged. My Ishta Devata and Devi took care of my every little worry. In the meanwhile both my flights got preponed by 15 minutes. I was reading the Prayagraj news everday because traffic was my one worry. Can you believe it I hardly got any traffic today! The snan itself was an awesome experience!

Tejaswini ji, my deepest gratitude to you. It was your post that motivated me to visit Sangam. It became my top spiritual goal and I had set aside many of my tasks just so I could focus on this trip. Today Shani Dev did put me through the wringer (as expected). My return flight which was pre-poned got postponed at the last minute. But I am not complaining. Few days ago I had checked out my Nakshatra result of today in advance and was prepared.

None of this could have happened without the momentum you provided with your beautiful posts and videos. Thanks a zillion🙏🏻❤️

    Heartfelt gratitude🙏🏻
