The word Mahakumbh is from Devbhasha Samskrutam, and has two words in it – Maha and Kumbh (watch the video on YouTube here)
- Maha = great, festival, light, lusture, brilliance, Yajnya, puja, several great deeds,
- Kumbha = jar, measure, the forehead, the kumbhak – retention of breath, fragrance, guggul resin, gold, movement of Pran/vital energy.
The Mahakumbh is the greatest Utsav of Sanatan Dharma. It shines with the brilliance of pure gold. The accumulated power of the great deeds, the punya karma of the enlightened Gurus who are present on this earth energise this Utsav. It has the capacity to energise the Pran, the vital energy in your body and especially to charge your Ajnya and Sahasrara chakras. The powerful aura of this event is powered by the pujas, the Yajnas and the meritorious activities of the people who come there. The Mahakumbh represents the Poorna Kumbha, the Poornatva, the completeness of the realised souls. Thus this Utsav is the fullness of the Eternal Self, the Parameshwar as reflected in this manifested universe as the Ishwar.
This Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj will have Jupiter in Taurus, Vrushabh rashi and the Sun in Capricorn, Makar Rashi. Thus it draws on three sources of power –
- Jupiter in Taurus
- Sun in Capricorn
- The Place itself Prayagraj
This power of Time and Space is harnessed by the Gurus of Sanatan Dharma and then this collective power resonates in all the followers of Sanatan Dharma who gather here in this time. Jupiter in Taurus is capable of blessing you with wealth. Taurus belongs to Venus, Daityaguru Shukracharya and represents, money, savings and treasures, good times with the family and the power of the family history. And specifically your share in the resources of your family, your Kul. Jupiter is generally very comfortable in Taurus and expands its inherent power. So on the material level he will give wealth. On the esoteric level, this Jupiter in Taurus can open up the power of the ‘energy family’ the ‘Kul’. This is the internal energy of your chakras and nadis and your Kundalini. Sun in Capricorn is capable of opening up the human highest potential. Capricorn belongs to Saturn and he is the son of Bhagwan Surya. Only Saturn is capable of converting the divine power of the Sun into very real material wealth. And Capricorn is the physical power of reality. The power of the collective, the human mind, it is the symbol of collective human strength.Thus this Sun in Capricorn will reenergise all the followers of Sanatan Dharma as a collective.
And Prayagraj is the Sangam, the union of the very visible Devi Ganga, the Devi Yamuna and the invisible yet very much present Devi Sarasvati. This Mahakumbh is the merger of the three rivers on the Earth. And internally it is the merger of the three nadis, Ida, Pingala and Sushumna. The realization of the Self.
On the astrological level, during this time,
1. Mars will be retrograde till 4th Feb. Then he will also be debilitated till 20 Jan. This Mars in Cancer is very highly favourable for pujas and activities which involve manipulation of the Pran within the body.
2. Jupiter will also be retrograde till 14th Feb. Retrograde planets are stronger than forward moving planets. The results that they give are mostly on the spiritual level and go deep in the subconscious mind.
3. Saturn and Rahu have started getting closer, they are within 15deg so slowly the shapit yog will start forming. Again the Shapit yog will support spiritual growth for all of us and material growth for some of us.
4. Mercury combust – 20 Jan to 22nd Feb. Mercury’s power of logic, intelligence, pure Buddhi will be absorbed by the King of the zodiac the Sun. This will charge on the vijnyanmaykosh, the sheath of pure intelligence.
5. Venus will enter Pisces on 28th Jan, he will be exalted here. This transit will cause a Parivartan yog between Jupiter in Taurus and Venus in Pisces. This will add to the power of both the Gurus of the zodiac and thus the Mahakumbh energy.
As per the Rasa concept of Acharya Abhinavgupta, the Shaant rasa is the Realisation of the Self, the Parameshwar. This Shant rasa is represented by Jupiter, this is the highest essence this belongs to the Paramarthik satta, the dimension of Advaita. The ‘next highest’ essence is the Shrungar rasa. This operates on the Vyavharik satta, the dimension of experience. The Parameshwar at this level is termed as the Ishwar. The realization of the Ishwar is the Shingaar Rasa. The emission of the Beej Shreem. And the Shingaar rasa is represented by Venus. So as Jupiter and Venus both gain power by Parivartan, they will support all spiritual and material aspirants during this Mahakumbh.
Actually the real Mahakumbh is the thousands of minds of the Swami, the Guru, the Maharaj and the Babaji who by their mere presence transmute the power of Time Space. They make this power easily available to the Hindus who will take bath/Snan in the Prayagraj Sangam.
The coming year 2025 is going to be turbulent. Things are going to be highly changeable. There will be challenges for all and opportunities for some.
