Ketu + Saturn in Sagittarius 2019, implications

This is a continued post on the present Saturn retrograde, April 2019 to Sept 2019, in Sagittarius (140 days retrograde motion from 30th Apr to 18th Sept).

Apart from the basic analysis, the major concern is that Ketu the headless – Saturn the agent of karma are together. Ketu is fiery and separative, Saturn is airy and restrictive. Ketu is in perpetual retrograde motion so rewinds and replays the experiences of your life so that you can extract the maximum learning from it. Ketu is intense on the psychological and inner spiritual levels. And Saturn has become retrograde, thus both are travelling in the same direction from Earth’s point of reference. It is going to be quite difficult for Sagittarius and especially Purvashadha born individuals during this period.

During this retrograde period, both the planets will be on exact same degree on 1st May when Saturn will be in retrograde motion in Purvashadha nakshatra. And again on 28th Sept when he will become direct again and again conjunct Ketu exactly again in Purvashadha nakshatra/lunar mansion. People with ascendant or moon sign in Gemini (7th from Sagittarius), Libra (11th from Sagittarius) and Aquarius (3rd from) should be extremely careful on these 2 days. Take no big decisions. Observe the events on these days as they can have life-time impacts on you.

If this much was not enough, there are more planetary influences in the mix.

  1. Mars will be travelling in Gemini during 7th May- 21st June 2019, he is in forward motion. (Mars is aggression, sometimes misplaced confidence and temper, a fiery combination in the present Gemini/Sagittarius axis.) He is also going to be combust for a bit (10th Jul – 14th Oct) when he passes near the Sun.
  2. Mercury will enter Gemini on 1st June, go briefly retrograde in Cancer – Gemini from 8th – 31st July 2019. (Thought processes, analytical mind and intelligence may get twisted.) He is also going to be combust for a bit (8th Jul – 2nd Aug) when he passes near the Sun.
  3. Sun is going to be with Rahu the trickster in Gemini from mid-June to mid-July. (Misplaced ego, pride and temper may cause problems.)
  4. Then Venus too is going to be with Rahu in Gemini from 30th Jun to 23rd Jul in forward motion. (Relationships and wisdom under fire.) He will then become combust for a bit (25th Jul – 10th Sept) when he passes near the Sun.
  5. And finally Jupiter is currently retrograde in Scorpio, he started his retrograde motion from Sagittarius in Apr, so till he changes his direction in Aug 2019, the events happening in the Sagittarius-Gemini axis will influence him too. (Wisdom may be lacking and selfishness may predominate your actions.)
  6. And as always, the Moon will do his 2.25 day transits over each sign, so will traverse this Gemini/Sagittarius axis twice every month.

Whenever these planets are going to be in Gemini they are going to be with Rahu and aspected by the Saturn+Ketu combination from Sagittarius (7th from Gemini). Things can get very volatile.

So buckle down and open your charts, go through what every planet means to you in your chart and especially what the Gemini/Sagittarius axis means to you. Almost everyone is going to get hit, in someway or the other, during these few months. A few tips to help you cope,

  1. No big decisions, try to continue as you had started during Apr 2019 and try to continue this till Sept 2019 till things somewhat normalise.
  2. If the currently retrograde planet is retrograde in your birth chart too, you have an opportunity to clear out your karmic balance. It might be painful in the physical context, but will help on the spiritual levels.
  3. If you are already ill in some body part, take care and your medicines on time.
  4. Try to control your mind, emotions and do not lose your temper. There will be ample provocation from the agents of the Gemini/Sagittarius axis in your chart.
  5. Do some spiritual practice everyday for 10 mins at least, anything that you are drawn to. Give yourself this time you are going to need it.

This is a very typical period where the main slow moving graha, Saturn and Jupiter are retrograde both at the same time. Then Saturn interacting with Rahu/Ketu and all the remaining planets interacting with Rahu in sequence, and they are also going retrograde themselves and combust too in sequence. Do analyse your horoscope, am sure everyone can at least try matching keywords at the very basic. At all times try to keep calm, disciplined, be patient and think twice before you act/react.

As always, this period too will pass.

 

Ketu + Saturn in Sagittarius 2019, implications

Planets move around the Sun in at constant speed and in one constant forward motion. But when we see them from earth, they seem to go through various types of movements in the sky  Perspective! These movements are of eight types (as listed in the Suryasiddhant written by Mayadanav),

  1. Vikala – no movement, the planet seems to be stationary. This can be for hours or upto 5 days days depending on the planet. e.g Saturn seems to stop /stambhit, for about 5 days before he changes his apparent direction of motion while Mercury is stationary for just a few hours.
  2. Vakra – Retrograde, when the planet in the motion reverse to the usual forward motion and apparently moves backward into the zodiac. e.g. Saturn will turn retrograde on 30 April 2019 and Jupiter is retrograde now.
  3. Anuvakra – When a retrograde planet goes back into the previous sign continuing in its retrograde motion. Jupiter did this when he reversed direction and came back from Sagittarius to Scorpio in Apr 2019.
  4. Manda – forward motion but somewhat slower than usual
  5. Mandatara – forward motion and even slower than the previous Manda motion
  6. Sama – the planet has started accelerating in the forward motion
  7. Chara – is faster than the previous Sama
  8. Atichara – when a planet in forward motion enters the entering next sign really very fast, e.g. Jupiter entered Scorpio in 2018 Nov and he moved really fast and entered Sagittarius in April 2019, in just 6 months.

Saturn turns retrograde, 2019

Retrograde planets are linked to your past life lessons, those few lessons which you revise again and again. So their energies are more directed inwards towards the self rather than outwards. Rahu/Ketu are always in perpetual retrograde motion they rewind and replay the experiences of your life thus you extract the maximum learning from them. They are are very intense on the psychological and inner spiritual levels. Now to evaluate the results of any planet in retrograde motion in your birth chart, first evaluate,

  1. the basic nature of this planet, e.g his natural karakatva, Saturn is your work and gains,
  2. then which signs/ houses of the zodiac he naturally rules, Capricorn/10th house and Aquarius/11th house,
  3. then in your personal birth chart, where he is placed, the aspects that he has on others and the aspects he is under, is he retrograde, debilitated, combust or with malefics/benefics etc. This is the routine analysis which you already know by now.

Now here are a few rules for specifically analysing retrograde planets in your birth chart.

  1. If the retrograde planet is exalted in your birth chart, he will not give his results in the physical life, his energies will be completely directed inwards. This is good from the spiritual point of view as this would mean you have finally internalised your lesson.
  2. If he is retrograde and debilitated in your birth chart, he will give all his results in the physical world, he gains power and can be very helpful. Can give extraordinary power and position. But he will give nothing for the internal spiritual life.
  3. If more than one planet is retrograde in your chart the power of the planet which has advanced most in its sign will be comparatively more. eg. Saturn retrograde placed in 27deg Taurus will be more powerful than Venus retrograde placed at 5deg Cancer.
  4. If the currently retrograde planet is retrograde in your birth chart too, you need to do some spiritual activity till he turns forward again. You may face some slow downs and problems in those aspects of life which are in linked to this planet and his position in your chart in your physical life. But this will boost you spiritually. So plan on doing some meditation, pranayam or any practice which you are drawn to.
  5. The 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses are the pillars on which your life rests, the Kendra houses.
    • If natural benefics owns 4th, 7th and 10th houses and are retrograde then they will not give good results in the physical life. i.e Jupiter, Venus, Mercury (Moon is never retrograde). But will give good results for the spiritual things.
    • If natural malefics own 4th, 7th and 10th houses and are retrograde, they will give good results for the physical life, but not for the spiritual life.
  6. The 1st, 5th and 9th houses are the Dharma trikon which represent the help you get from others, this ensures you achieve your life objectives easily. Any planet which owns these houses and retrograde can give very good results in the physical life. (If he owns the 6th, 8th and 12th houses too at the same time, his results will be a bit lowered).
  7. One important point is that in case the retrograde is a Anuvakra. The planet crosses back into the previous sign during the retrograde motion. e.g the present Jupiter has started retrograding from Sagittarius in April 2019 and has crossed back into the previous sign Scorpio now. So for babies born now, Jupiter will give a mix of results Scorpio+Sagittarius.

Astronomically Saturn reverses his direction whenever Sun enters the 5th or 9th house counted from his sign (Sun is in Aries in April 2019) and turns direct again when Sun enters the other 5th or 9th sign (Sun is in Leo during September 2019).

Very briefly on Saturn’s present retrograde. He is aspecting Gemini (7th from), Libra (11th from) and Aquarius (3rd from) as he is placed in Sagittarius. Right now he is with Ketu and aspected by Rahu, briefly Mars will aspect him in May-Jun. So if you are born with the ascendant or the Moon in these four signs will need to take special care. Also check out what these 4 signs represent in your chart, you will get some trouble from these parts of your life. Libra will be the least affected followed by Aquarius, Gemini and then Sagittarius which is going to bear the brunt of this retrograde.

This Saturn will make everyone go slow and think before taking decisions related to career, professional things, investments, like-minded groups, speculations, stock markets etc. Do not take big decisions related to legal issues, relations, financial matters, you might need to review them after Saturn turns forward again. If you are ill in some body part connected with Saturn (bones, teeth, ligaments, nails, hair etc) take special care. If you also have a retrograde Saturn in your birth chart, then expect issues with money flow and work. Try to behave in an honest, legal and professional manner, be disciplined, self-restrained and efficient as possible as taking on Saturn’s qualities will be good during this period.

Chakras and their conscious energies

Continuing the theme from my previous post and this post is quite long.

The top of the head is the energy of the Parabrahma and the energy of self-identification, popularly called Kundalini is locked at the bottom of the spine. The entire creation is now between these two energies also called Shiva and Shakti.

All our actions are created by vibrations. The energy required to create this action is first generated in the Sushumna and the naadi system. When we speak there are vibrations but even when we think, or move our hands there are vibrations. The source of all vibrations of every type is inside the Sushumna. I had written about the deity Matrika originating in the – central Bindu, Vama, Jeystha, Raudri complex – which gives rise to all the sounds of the Sanskrit language and thus creation. Now this Matrika energy actually has 7 aspects/Sapta-Matrika named Brahmi, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamunda.

Braahmi –

This energy evolves in this topmost energy complex comes down till below the muladhar then again ascends till it is stabilised in the Sahasrara chakra. It has jurisdiction over and pervades throughout all the chakras of the body. Surya/Sun of Jyotish/astrology arises from her. The Vyhruti here is Satyam. (Vyhruti means a stage of vibrations or a defined world or a state of existence.)

She exercises her power called Yakini, i.e. she grants the experience of the ultimate truth to the aspirant and likewise during creation she closes this aspect of Yourself by limiting knowledge, your individual soul is confined to its own narrow self. She answers the question Yak? (Which?, Who?) and allows its experience. She allows you to experience your internal Sun.

Maaheshwari –

This originates in the same topmost complex, spreads till the end of the Muladhar chakra, comes back up and is stable at the Ajnya chakra. She has jurisdiction from the Ajnya to Muladhar chakra. She thus does not extend from the Ajnya to Sahasrara area. She controls the subtle body/sukshma sharir. The Vyhruti here is Tapah. She give rise to the Moon/Chandra. Moon is the subconscious and the astral, the sum total of your Being in every level.

The Ajnya chakra is the one which commands (ajnya means command). It directs all movements, thoughts, everything as this is the place which allocates pran. Every action of yours, in whatever plane requires enregy/pran to power it. Maaheshwari uses her power called Hakini and directs everything. Now when the aspirant crosses this chakra on the way up he abandons (Hakini) all external activities. Now the pran is not allocated to the lower chakras, it moves upwards to open up the higher chakras and channels of the head. This Hakini is the Moon that is drawn on the forehead of every Vedic god. She illuminates the path of knowledge from the Ajnya to the Sahasrara.

Kaumari –

Aakasha is the conscious space which evolves from Kaumaari. She originates at the topmost complex and similarly extends till below the Muladhar and comes back and is stable at the Vishuddhi chakra having jurisdiction from the Vishuddhi to the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Janah. Mercury/Budha is created from her. Mercury is analytical intelligence and the boldness when you know intellectually that you are correct.

Daakini is the name of her power. She creates fear i.e. she creates ‘avidya’ during the process of creation. Avidya means unwisdom, unlearning, spiritual ignorance. She ties the individual soul in bindings of ignorance of its reality. For the spiritual aspirant however she destroys Avidya and the concepts of the organs of action and senses.

Vaishnavi –

She manifests the Vayu/Air tattwa/element and is located at the Anahata chakra pervading from Anahata to the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Mahah. She creates the planetary force called Shukra/Venus. Now her power is called Raakini. She grants happiness, illumination, prosperity and bliss. Now it is your choice which sort of happiness you are after, of the material or the spiritual? For the aspirant she grants you the quiver and the arrow to be used on your bow. Her tests will be the tests of Venus/Shukra the most pleasurable but the most difficult.

Now the bow, archer, quiver, arrow etc are oft repeated words and you will find them in every spiritual text. The Bhagwat Gita was narrated by Shri Krishna to his cousin Arjun who is an archer! In spiritual terms your spine is your bow, your kundalini/energy of self identity is your arrow and your mantra is the bowstring that you pull back on. You are aiming at your own real Self.

Vaarahi –

She manifests Agni the conscious energy of fire and is located at the Manipur, pervading from here till the Muladhar. The Vyhruti here is Swah. Mangal/Mars is derived from her energy. The energy of birth and also of death are linked here. Be careful of your navel area, if you ever get hit here (e.g. boxing) it will cause damage and will cause problems in spiritual growth.

Now her power is called Laakini. She allows absorption of the energy allocated to the body. In the human physical body this Lakini allows the fires of the body to burn. This includes the digestive fire which allows the physical body to nourish itself. And it also means the spiritual fire which consumes the nectar dripping from center of the head (physically the pineal gland.). (Those yogis who can access this area through specific mudras can actively use it. It will then further the spiritual growth rather than just being burnt, it is quite fiery in nature.)

Indraani –

She manifests the Aap/water mahabhoot i.e. conscious energy of fluidity and has jurisdiction over the area from the Swadhisthan to the Muladhar. The Vyhruti here is Bhuvah. The energy of Jupiter/Bruhaspati is produced from her. Her power is called Kaakini. Kaa is the eternal Question, Who?, you will be made to understand the widest scope of this question here and then tested. When you cross this chakra, you will be granted steadfastness, protection, a long and healthy life for the physical body etc. She is benevolent, gentle all pervasive, but will not give her answers, will make you work hard for them till you understand her lessons. She also protects her manifested universe, so here your resolve in leaving her fun-fair will be tested to the limits.

This chakra is called swa- adhi-sthan. (abode/base/support of the self) Here your self is fixed in the energy sense. Between the Swadhisthan and the last Muladhar the 72000 naadi which energise your body are attached. For the aspirant however, here is where you, the warrior, will sit in your chariot, with the steadfast resolve of approaching the Supreme’s abode.

Chaamundaa –

She manifests the Pruthvi/earth tattva/element and is located at the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Bhu. The Shani/Saturn energy of astrology is manifested by her. She keeps track of the karmic record you have built up and when the time is right offers you a way out. She offers to teach you the lessons which will loosen your bindings to the manifested universe. But she is quite fearsome and not every one will take her up on her offer right away.

Her energy is called Saakini. Saakini binds the Serpent Kundalini to the hexagonal Kurma-shila. She is thus responsible for the created life. If the Kundalini is detached from the kurmashila it is physical death. This is the point where the subtle energies finally manifest as the gross physical, this is the joint. This is where the pran turns into the energy of the body, and vibrations are slowed down to seem ‘matter’. If Saakini is pleased with your resolve she will unfasten the locks of the Kundalini. Your limited physical existence will be terminated as you move towards your magnificent ultimate self.

Now a bit more.

The notes/Swar of the musical scale which are also connected to the Chakras and thus a well organised music, the Raaga has the capacity to elevate the human soul.

The tattva or the mahabhoot are the 5 elements which make up the universe. The Sanskrit words are translated into earth, water, fire, air and space but it is not the gross stuff that we see with our eyes. The Pruthvi, Aap, Tej ,Vayu and Akash are the subtle seeds and are conscious energy. You can manipulate them with your intention and mantras, e.g. if you know the mantra for the pruthvi tattva you can make your gross body weightless.

The seven graha are linked to the 7 chakras but where are Rahu and Ketu? These two are produced because of the desires/apathies of the Jivatma/individual soul. They are ‘unreal’ in a very deep way. These are the bonds of karma which push/pull the energy geometry out of its perfect shape. In the heavens too they move anticlockwise, opposite in direction to the other seven. Rahu/Ketu in perpetual retrograde motion replays the experiences of your life. They operate on the psychological and inner spiritual levels.

The powers of the Sapt Matrikas, from Yakani to Sakini always challenge the spiritual aspirant. They test the resolve and the intention in every way possible. Depending on which spiritual text you are following they will take that form, e.g. if you are following the Bhagwat Gita, you will have to take on these powers as the Kaurav army and warriors from the Kurukshetra war in your Dhyan. Only when you have defeated them, will they be satisfied and grant you their blessings and boons. So focus single-pointedly on your Mantra (Om/Soham/Hamsa), your third eye chakra point and your breath. These are your weapons.

The top Parabrahma is the pull of gravity (Gurutvakarshan – pull of the Guru). The 7 planets are the Naga at every chakra, the 7 mountains which block the route, the Rahu/Ketu are the karma which cause push/pull and the energy of self-identity is locked below this axis below the kundalini. So Moksh in Jyotish terms. If you can align these 7 mountains into the perfect alignments, nullify the effect of Rahu/ Ketu the route will be prefect, the Gurutvakrshan/attraction of the Parabrahma will be irresistible and your self- identity will rise perfectly in one smooth motion.

Current Rahu/Ketu transit in Gemini/Sagittarius

This is a brief post on analysing transits. I have written a previous post on transits of Rahu/Ketu here. They are in perpetual retrograde motion so as to replay the lessons of your life, this enables you to learn them very deeply. Rahu/Ketu work intensely on the psychological and inner spiritual levels. Now the recent transit (March 2019 to September 2020) of Rahu/Ketu into the 3rd/9th sign Gemini owned by Mercury and Sagittarius owned by Jupiter has already started giving startling events around the world. Gemini and Sagittarius are quite suitable environments for Rahu/ Ketu, some astrologers consider them exalted here. Thus their effects are going to be very intense and extreme. Rahu-Ketu work at the deepest levels, through sudden and unpredictable events.

Consider the world events and also your personal events which occurred 18 yrs ago, between 2000-2002. Go back in your life 18yrs to evaluate what had happened, what was its effect on you physically, emotionally and spiritually. Something similar will happen again.

The last time, 18yrs ago from July 2000 to Feb-2002, world events included, the dot-com bubble burst, Concorde flight crash and the company’s bankruptcy, launch of Wikipedia, first iPod launched by Apple, Mir space station brought down, the world’s first space tourist, hijacked planes, terrorist attacks on World Trade Center etc, deaths of thousands, thus mindset of the world changed permanently, a continuing ‘war on terrorism’ which strangely continues till date, Euro notes/coins entered public circulation as a powerful new currency, cyborg tech successfully developed, etc. So you had your Mercury, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu keywords being reflected quite nicely back then, and somewhat similar things will happen now.

Rahu in Gemini, the natural 3rd house of the zodiac will cause the following, use the keywords and interlink them to get these readings.

  1. Rahu in the house of Mercury will cause anxiety, depression, addictions, suicidal thoughts and other psychological problems caused by ‘over-stimulation’ and ‘over-thinking’. Mercury is highly adaptable and responds to events quite successfully, but rapid and high intensity changes cause him to burn out.
  2. Increase in risky behaviour triggered in same-age groups causing accidents. E.g a same-age/family/friends group goes for an adventure trail, trek, picnic etc and gets into an accident.
  3. Teenagers are very impressionable individuals and under the influence of Rahu will be involved in risky activities maybe crime or drugs etc. Disguises and concealments. Parents/teachers unable to communicate effectively with their teenage kids.
  4. The flow of information, intelligence, database management, information analysis will be affected. In short there will be misinformation and misunderstandings on all levels. Cheating in financial sectors; banking sector will be hit with scams and cybercrime, people will lose trust in banks.
  5. Pollution caused by information networks will reach dangerous levels, this will include subtle radiation to discordant noises. The world will be a noisier place with all shouting for attention.
  6. Increase diseases related chest, heart and lungs. Also incurable and strange diseases will increase. Faulty diagnosis will increase and inappropriate medication given.

Rahu will conjunct Mars, both malefics during May-June 2019. Severe results again with Mars intensifying Rahu with his aggression, competitiveness, rage and high energy at all levels possible, tempers will remain high and will snap. e.g. wars, road rage, local fights, raised voices in the house etc. (Mars will aspect Ketu too during this period, thus fueling his energies too.)

Current Rahu/Ketu transit in Gemini/SagittariusNow Ketu in Sagittarius. Here we already have Saturn and he will move out into Capricorn in Jan 2020. So till then, Ketu and Saturn both malefics are together. Ketu has become even more powerful with extremely increased ability to give his ‘separative’ results. So be prepared for separations at every level, mental, physical spiritual. (Saturn will be aspecting Rahu during this period, adding to his energy, one result could be that people will take calculated risks.)

  1. Foundations of life for many will be shaken and torn apart. This may mean more divorces, or abandonment issues, teachers going rogue, students not learning etc. Priests/pandits will not perform well, and rituals done may not bear fruit. People will question established religions and rituals.
  2. These life shaking detachment type of events will turn several to internal spirituality. (more after Jan 2020 when just Jupiter and Ketu are together, Saturn moves on)
  3. Universities and institutes of higher learning, religious schools, monasteries etc will fail to perform or come into disrepute. Temples, monasteries etc may be physically demolished even.
  4. The patrons, peer groups and paternal figures will not cooperate, create tensions and abandon. Those who are supposed to guide will not. Guidance will come from inside only if people listen.
  5. If you have any pitr/ancestor related problems due, they can erupt. 9th sign is linked to them too.
  6. People will be disconnected from religion, humanitarian views, philosophy and will act selfishly and without fear of spiritual repercussions/Karma.
  7. Jupiter enters his own sign Sagittarius for 2 months, in Mar-April 2019 giving some relief. But he is moving forward/retrograde going back into Scorpio. However he will then transit into Sagittarius from Nov 2019 onwards giving his direction also to the headless Ketu and make the restrictions of Saturn a bit bearable.
  8. Feb 2020 – Mar 2020 will see Mars with Ketu so again a double dose of aggression and martian energies which will generally be misdirected (headless Ketu’s influence). Jupiter’s influence will be able to set things right sooner though.

These were very general readings. For analysing your own personal chart I have written about it in my earlier post. But here is a quick recap

  1. Your birth chart. Check out where Rahu is placed, which house, which sign and with which planets. He will link his ‘overreach and then fall on the face’, trend with each of their results too.
  2. If your birth chart has a complete or a partial kaal sarpa, the effects of Rahu/Ketu are more intensified.
  3. Check out which Mahadasha/Main period and antardasha/sub-period you are on. What are the general background influences that you can expect. If you are undergoing periods of Ketu or Rahu be careful. (Or Saturn, Mars or Sun, the natural malefics when they conjunct with Rahu/Ketu in transit together)
  4. Which houses in your chart are Rahu/Ketu occupying during their transit? i.e Where are Gemini/Sagittarius placed? This will tell you which karma you are going to be pulled towards/Rahu, and which aspects of life you are going to be separated from/Ketu.
    • (Ketu transiting in 4th house has caused deaths of the mother for 2 of my clients last year. For another, he sold off his ancestral farmlands).

  5. If your age is the multiples of 18 yrs, you will undergo Rahu/Ketu return where they occupy the same position as your birth chart. Extreme karmic events will unfold.
  6. Now during the overall 18 month Rahu/Ketu transit, there will be short term transits of the other planets, Sun, Moon etc. So look out for the eclipses and periods around them. They will change the results of Sun/Moon and depending on their positions in your transit chart give extreme results.
  7. The other planets will also transit over these Rahu/Ketu for shorter periods, so their results will also be affected by the Rahu/Ketu presence/conjunction. Especially be alert during the conjunction of malefics in transit.

Gemini and Sagittarius will obviously affected badly. Most astrologers call Rahu /Ketu as ‘imaginary planets’, or ‘mathematical points’, which is doing them a great injustice. You can never understand your chart if you do not analyse Rahu /Ketu. In Jyotish the correct term is ‘graha’ .(Graha means, force, giving, holding, seizing, seizer, holder, giver, taker, etc).

You live your life on several levels. How do you look like? The human body which you see in the mirror is not even 1% of how you really look. And we are obsessed about the physical body that we see. (Sometimes I see beautifully made-up and dressed up people, expensive clothes and accessories with such filthy auras and energies, can’t bear sitting next to them. We Indians have this habit of doing namsakar when we meet others, that way we don’t need to touch them.) 

Your energy, your naadi network, your chakras, even each organ looks different, the aura, your higher, sub-conscious and astral selves, everything, is so much much more. You live and work for a very tiny part of your life in the physically perceived universe and significantly more in the astrally perceived realms. So every graha has its other astral/ indescribable components. Rahu and Ketu are completely ‘other’ graha, they do not have any part of themselves visible in the conscious/subconscious dimensions. They exist at levels much more deeper than that.

All of us live out our lives in the occult dimensions as well as the physical realm. There is nothing called as a ‘past’, ‘present’, ‘future’, ‘parallel’ life. Everything is occurring in this single moment simultaneously. All of us are aware of our this multi-dimensional self, all of us. But it is so staggering that most of us shut it out, perhaps for fear that our minds will crack or that we need to resolve a few karma. This ‘importance’ depends on the question that one seeks to answer. Most modern astrologers do not find Rahu/Ketu to be important and relegate them to the shadows. This is the result of our times, we are more interested in shallow materialistic things and refuse to appreciate the subtlety of our existence (nothing wrong about it, each one has his own priorities).

But on the deeper levels, the Rahu/Ketu axis is what drives you, all your aspirations, desires, ambitions are Rahu, the karmic ties which you still have to unwind. And all those detachments, apathies, disinterests are Ketu, you have saturated yourself with these objects so are now completely indifferent to them. In very simple language they represent the effect of the Earth (Bhu the first vhyarhuti) on your soul. The reason you manifest on the Earth is Rahu/Ketu.

You are the Ultimate, so what are you doing on the lowest energy level/Bhu? The answer is Rahu/Ketu. The energies of the entire chart are channelised by the Rahu/Ketu axis. You have a train full of valuables, and its engine is Rahu! It is very important to have support from the all the planets in the chart, e.g. ascendant lord – overall ‘fitting in’, Moon -stability, Sun -self-confidence, Mercury -thinking, Mars-fearlessness, Saturn-pragmatic work, Venus-esoteric knowledge, Jupiter-conventional knowledge, etc to navigate the realms of Rahu/Ketu.

Rahu/Ketu mature very late in life at 48yrs years of age, so by then you have more or less finished your material duties and can now start on your spiritual agenda. They make you work at the deepest levels beyond the conscious and the sub-conscious both.

Energy-wise Rahu is more airy/Vata and Ketu more fiery/Pitta. Both are considered to be the enemies of the luminaries, Sun and Moon. Now Sun represents your consciousness/jivatma/soul/ego also your Pingala nadi and Moon represents you at the subconscious/emotional/astral levels and your Ida nadi. Rahu/Ketu thus have the ability to occult the You in several dimensions. And from the energy point of view only when Ida and Pingala are occulted i.e. shut, can pran flow through the central Sushumna nadi complex. So now can you appreciate the vital importance of Rahu/Ketu! When Rahu/Ketu occult the Sun/Moon, wonder what shows through? Energy cannot be destroyed only transmuted. When the lenses of Rahu/Ketu eclipse the oh-so-shiny luminaries, wonder what they allow us a glimpse of?

These are considered to be Serpents. Serpents actually mean karmic bindings. If you have read this post, kundalini is also considered to be a serpent as it binds. To free yourself from the limited sense of self-identification as Priya, Amit and Manish you have to break free of the kundalini and Rahu/Ketu energy too. Serpents guard treasure, here the /Rahu-Ketu Serpents guard your karmic balance. What binds you is also what makes you free. If Rahu/Ketu have bound you, then they have the capacity to set you free too. If Devi Mahamaya has bound you through her Serpent-Kundalini then She has the power to set you free too, thus spiritual aspirants do Devi mantra/yagnya etc aradhana and Ketu is considered to be the real moksh karak.

Rahu/Ketu are the equal and opposite counter-forces of attachment and apathy. These energies are used to churn the Mahameru within you. The story of Samudra Manthan has 54 dev and 54 danav churning the Meru in the Ksheer-Samudra. The rope used for churning is again the Serpent Vasuki. So many karmic events push and pull us constantly till the infinite Samudra gives up his treasure of immortality/self-knowledge. These karmic events on the deepest spiritual levels occurring in your life are linked to Rahu/Ketu placements, dashas and transits. If truly analysed, you can see that they are indeed pulling and pushing you towards your real self-identification.

This is the real use of Jyotish the science of illumination. Of course you can answer mundane questions like, ‘when will I get married’ or ‘when will I get a job’, you will get your answers. But sometimes do analyse your chart in the spiritual context to delve deeply into your real self.
