Adopt the Gayatri mantra routine

The Gayatri mantra is an all-round remedy for all issues in life and everyone above 6yrs of age must recite this mantra. It should be a part of everyone’s daily routine.

Ideal would be to recite the Gayatri mantra mentally 108 times, 3 times a day, ie dawn, midday and dusk, at the three Sandhya times. Simple mental recitation takes 10mins, you can do it wherever you are. But for some reason, if you cannot do 108 repeats, at least recite it 1, 3, 27, 54 times. It is a mantra, but you can even think of it as a prayer to your internal divinity or as a way of invoking your inner light or consider the Devi Gayatri as your mother, or whatever makes sense to you, even a song! but do recite this. It is the only way you can protect your Sva-dharma, your internal foundation, the philosophy you live your life by.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

The Yajnopavit Sanskar is a compulsory rite for Hindus where the person takes a life time Sankalp to perform the Gayatri puja three times a day for a life time. This indicates the essential role of the Gayatri mantra. (These days, very few boys from Brahmin families take up this intention.)

But everyone can do this small self-initiation for the Gayatri. Start on a Sunday. Wake up before sunrise and get ready. Face east, look at the rising Sun, see the power of the Gayatri reflected in his light. Offer him some water, vermillion, flowers etc, request help and support and start your practice with the Gayatri mantra. Put your entire faith/ Shraddha in it and continue this for a lifetime. Recite it yourself and encourage your family members and friends to do so. Everyone who thinks of themselves as a follower of the Sanatan Dharma must do this practice, now more than ever.
The Gayatri is the mother of the Ved, it is the Ved-mata, its the source of all mantra, all power is from it, all intelligence is born of the Gayatri mantra, it is pure consciousness.
I have written several posts on the Gayatri mantra like,

The Gayatri mantra

Gayatri Mantra, Devi Sarasvati, Raja-gun and Agni

(use the index page or the search bar for more).

(For women, no jaap, pujas etc for at least 5days of the monthly cycle as the body is undergoing controlled destruction post here)

The Gayatri mantra is the Adhar-stambh ie the pillar which supports in every way possible. For every other mantra to be effective the Gayatri mantra has to first give its support. eg if you do some Graha shanti pujas but are not doing Gayatri jaap in your life, the Shanti puja will not give full results. The Gayatri mantra is essential for everything. It is mentioned in the Rg Ved (3.62.10) and it’s Seer is Rishi Vishvamitra. Vishvamitra means, ‘Vishvasya Mitra iti Vishvamitra’. Thus Vishvamitra is the friend of the universe, the Sun of the underlying intelligent consciousness, the Illumination within everyone, the all pervading Consciousness. Thus the Supreme intelligence itself has Seen the Gayatri mantra. Thus the power of this mantra.

I am stressing on the Gayatri as a daily practice for a specific reason. Yesterday I thought of writing a post on the upcoming Rahu’s transit into Krutika nakshatra. I started analysing the transits of the other planets etc during this period and felt worried. I abandoned that post and decided to write this short one instead. Focus on the solution.

In the present context, the supreme importance of the Gayatri mantra is the Rg ved rk 3.53.12 which says this, ‘Vishvamitrasya rakshati brahmaedam bharatam janam’. In simple words, ‘This Highest Consciousness of Vishvamitra, ie the Gayatri mantra, continually protects the people of Bharat’. All people who follow the Sanatan Dharma, wherever they may reside on the earth are the ‘people of Bharat’.

Given the situations which might come in the future, it is imperative that everyone invokes the Gayatri mantra. If each one of us does our individual routine with the Gayatri mantra, the collective will also gain its protection.

Remedies for combust planets

Combust planets have their energy directed inwards. This combust planet will give more results on the internal spiritual levels rather the outer material levels. This is not a punishment, nor a thing to be afraid of. It simply is. This combust planet indicates a lesson in life which is to be learnt intensely. Maybe we didn’t appreciate this planet’s gifts in our past lives, so in this life our divine connection is intimately intertwined with this planet. This planet can give very good results if used consciously. If you remain unaware of its potential and not use it actively, it will manifest as imbalances of the physical life and as medical conditions. Often ‘over-heating’, ‘over-activation’ type of medical problems or surgeries are possible. Issues with the eye-sight are also frequently seen here. Depending on which planet is combust there can be other symptoms too. I have written about these topics in several past posts.

Eg Mercury combust is very common. But people with this combination also make for excellent writers, public speakers. (eg current Indian PM Narendra Modi. His birthdate is 17th Sept 1950, time unknown. But the Sun and Mercury are on the same degree, Caizmi Mercury.) So those, about 25%, of us with Mercury combust should write, learn skills, paint, knit, do something with those hands! Then depending on the position, placement and power of Sun+Mercury combo, you will be given more skills of other types too, including doing ‘magic’ or tantra if your horoscope permits. The dreams states and other sub-conscious states will give valuable cues which you will then use in your physical life. Mercury is about thought, action and use. And he has merged with the Sun. So you will use your creativity in every possible way!

The Sun now is not just ‘Sun’, he is the ‘Sun+the combust planet’ combination energy. In your chart, this combo now rules all their combined houses/signs. ie Leo and the signs of the combust planet. Eg if Gemini ascendant, Mercury combust, the ‘Sun+Mercury’ combination will together control the ascendant sign, is together the ascendant lord, the combined ruler of the 4th house-sign Virgo and 11th house-sign Leo. They together will subtly influence the 3rd house-natural sign Gemini, 5th house-natural sign Leo and 6th house-natural sign Virgo. So this combo becomes very important in this horoscope.

Remedies for combust planets

Now how to balance these combination energies? First of all focus on your Sun.

A good option is to do the Surya-namaskar. It improves physical fitness, mental strength as well as spiritual strength. If you are not physically fit, do it as you can, imperfectly, slowly. Start with one repeat per day and gradually increase as per your fitness levels. Do not strain yourself. Sit in the early morning/late evening sunlight, when the sun is yellow-orange and try to expose your skin to this sunlight. Never sit in the white bright Sun, it is very harsh.

Next option is to give Surya Arghya. This is how everyone is supposed to start the day, but now most of us have forgotten. In one small copper pot, take water. Add one pinch kumkum/ vermillion or a strand of saffron if you can afford, one red/orange/yellow flower, some grains of raw rice. Even one of these things is good enough if you cannot find them all. Stand in your balcony, barefoot, look at the rising sun, hold the pot in your hands, rise your hands and pour the water out in a thin stream. The stream will be at your eye level, between you and the Sun. See the light of the Sun reflected in the water stream. After you pour out the water, touch the water fallen on the ground with your right hand fingers and touch them to your eyes.

A mantra for the Sun is recited as you pour out the water. Options are

  • This is the full Surya arghya mantra. You will have to learn this by heart then give Argya with it.
  • Mahamrutyunjai mantra ‘ Om tryambakam yajamahe sugandhiṃ pushti-vardhanam urvarukamiva bandhanat mrutyor mukshiya ma amrutat Om’
  • Gayatri mantra ‘Om Bhuh Bhuvah Svah, Om Tat Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi, Dhiyo Yo nah Prachodayat Om’
  • Surya beej mantra ‘Om Hraang hreeng hrowng sah Suryaya namah’ Om
  • Or simply ‘Om Suryaya namah’ Om three times
  • Or at least, when you see him in the morning, do a simple Namaskar. Fold your hands in gratitude to the early morning Sun.

Then a fun option is adding Sun’s energy in the form of the food which links to him. The fragrances and spices with his energy. Or wear the colors which are linked to him.

If you are a Hindu, you can do a Satya-narayan puja or a Rudra-abhishek or a Nava-graha Shanti puja once a year on any auspicious day or your birthday etc. But do this only if you can afford to. This would be an extra thing but it is good as the entire family can participate and benefit from its energy.

But the best remedy is giving yourself at least 15mins everyday. You have to do personal mediation ie Dhyan. Look into your third eye and simply breath in and out slowly. The Ajapa mantra of Soham/ Hamsa will automatically take over and you will be more in connect with your internal sub-conscious self. The energy gets a safe channel to express itself. You should not be scared of the Sun or the combust planet. From my personal experience, unless you give your Sun+planet combo this inner level opening, you will face physical problems. Accept what is being offered to you by them, don’t worry. Once you start your Dhyan, the physical problems will lessen and your inner benefits will start becoming tangible. (My own horoscope’s most important benefic is exactly on the Sun, fully combust. I give him a channel for expression so that I benefit on the inner levels. There were some unpleasant medical issues on the physical levels, but they got resolved as I allowed him an outlet. And in any case, what I gain from this Sun+planet combo is immense).

Remedies for combust planets

Now a quick look on the 5 Tara-graha, planets which can get combust. You have to do something about them too. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. These are some thought processes for you to think about and if necessary change within yourself.

Mercury – The mind and the mental-processes are stuck. So exercise your mind, solve puzzles, write, read something new every day. Meet with your same-age people, eg join a creative arts club. Give your mental processes enough rest, sleep is important. Avoid over-stimulating your mind, avoid drugs etc. Do not argue or speak bad words unnecessarily. Healing of the Vishuddhi chakra helps.

Venus – Be fair in love, give and receive from your loved ones. Appreciate what you have. Avoid criticising. Do not be caught up in external beauty of cosmetics and expensive clothes. Venus is actually the Teacher of self-love. So meditation is important. Spend some time with yourself to know the inner you. If you know yourself, you will also love yourself. Secure in your self-love, you will radiate positivity, good vibes and everyone will reflect this. Healing the Anahata chakra is a good option.

Mars – Form your opinions, avoid being influenced by others. Do not get involved in unnecessary emotional drama or arguments. Try to develop patience, do not react unnecessarily or over-react. Develop courage, do not be afraid of life and its events. Your vital energy is stuck somewhere inside, let it out. Do healing on your Manipur chakra.

Jupiter – Read about religious or philosophical subjects. There are several ways to approach the inner divinity. Think or write about your personal philosophy. Find a source of faith which appeals to you. Personal meditation is very important to know your innermost thoughts, so start a regular spiritual practice. Healing the Swadhishthan chakra helps.

Saturn – Avoid being selfish, individualistic behaviour cannot sustain. Always follow your conscience. Try to help others, there is always someone who needs help. Be kind. Affirm that you are secure, do not fear or grieve. Open yourself to new things are coming in. Take a calculated risk sometime. Do smile, take a break from being so serious. Do healing on the Muladhar Chakra.

Healing the chakras linked to the planets always helps. I have written about doing chakra healing in this post. It takes about 10-15 mins for your entire chakra system, and it works beautifully. You can do it once a week if you have time. Or do it quickly a minute per chakra before you go to bed. Or you can do it as your daily ‘spiritual practice’. But do it. ‘Energy goes where attention goes’, is very true. When you consciously ‘look’ at every chakra for 1-2 mins, you are channelising tremendous energy inwards specifically for each one of them. It makes a very big difference. If you are doing this daily, try it for 21 days before you analyse its effects.

There are simple activities which you can do (post here) to balance the planetary energies. These are one-time remedies but if the adverse effect was intense you can repeat them 1-2 times a year. Or do their Homa (post here), this is also a one-time remedy, but you can do the Homa whenever you feel like it, it is quite an enjoyable experience in itself. Or just recite their mantra on their corresponding week-days, this would be a weekly thing then. Do what you feel like, all methods are equally effective. When you do these remedies, visualise blessings ie golden-silvery-shimmery light around you. Whatever you do, keep your intentions strong and focused. Also be grateful to these conscious energies represented by the planet. Use your will, the planets are but a reflection of your own self, they are not something separate from you. When you heal them you are actually healing yourself.

Bach flower remedies

“Wonderful as it may seem, relieve your patient of the mood or moods such as are given in this system of healing, and your patient is better”

– Dr Edward Bach, 1936

Bach flower remedies are one of the best ways to cure deep seated problems on all levels. Am sure you must have heard of them, but if not, you must really try them out. Dr.Edward Bach, a century ago, had experimented with the healing properties of flowers and came up with this set of 38 Bach Flower remedies.

rock-water honeysuckle

The basic concept is behind every manifested illness there exists an imbalance on the inner self. Anxieties, fears, depression, tension, trauma, dislikes, avoidance, greed, apathy and other negative emotions over a period of time result in illness of the body. Most doctors will treat the outer symptoms of your body but will not cure the inner real inner problem. Modern doctors won’t even think on these deeper lines of thought! Thus over time the illness will repeat itself or the same imbalance will manifest as a different illness.

This same theory is behind curing issues caused by planetary imbalances using the perfumes, colors and food tastes associated with them. But planetary remedies may not be so easily accepted by most people who still think astrology to be hogwash! But Bach flower remedies are ‘mainstream’, your homeopathic physician may also be prescribing these. In India, I bought the entire set of 38 bottles for around Rs 4000/- from a wholesale supplier of homeopathic medicines. As I use the liquid, I keep topping it up with more medicinal brandy. So if you can buy a set it is a life time investment.

waterviolet scleranthrus

The beauty of these remedies is that they have Zero side-effects and they actually work. Then there are lots of questionnaires online where you can find out which emotional issues you need to address. Go through this list of meanings or take a self test to find out what are the negative thought processes and emotional behaviour holding you back. Then use the flowers. If you have bought the set, put 2 drops of the remedy in a glass of water and drink it, 3 times a day, or put them in your water bottle. When you no longer need to take it, you will actually forget to take it!

Now the fun part. I have used these remedies for years and found a few shortcuts which also work equally well. These shortcuts are especially useful if you cannot find the set in your local market or cannot afford to buy them.

  1. I live in the Himalayas where some of these plants are naturally found. So if you live in such a place yourself, you can gather the fresh flowers and keep them in a glass bowl with clean water in the direct sunlight for 3-4 hours. Then store that water in a clean bottle. If you intend to preserve it for a longer time you can add a few drops of medicinal brandy to it.
    • Drink it whenever you feel the need.
    • It works beautifully for small children and infants, you can even put a few drops on their forehead.
    • Put it in spray bottle and spray it in your room or use it to wipe the floors of your house.
    • Wash your clothes in it ,put a few drops of the remedy in your washing machine water.
    • You can spray it on your pet if it is unwell.
  2. A even simpler way would be keep the flower itself with you, maybe wear it in your hair, or keep it in a small vase on your table.
  3. Or download a nice photo of the flower and keep it as your phone/laptop wallpaper.
  4. Simply recite its name a few times (11 or 27 or more if you wish) in your mind, visualising the flower.
  5. Recite its name under your breath and blow on a glass of water and drink it.
  6. Write its name a few times on a piece of paper.
  7. Draw 2 concentric circles, in the inner one write your name and within the outer one write the name of the flower remedy you have chosen for yourself. Keep this paper under your pillow or in your pocket.
  8. You can combine Bach flowers with Reiki or other healing techniques, they work beautifully.

chicory centaury

These pretty flowers work always. So do use the Bach flower remedies if you feel inclined.

I recommend reading ‘The Twelve Healers and other remedies”, and other books written by Dr. Edward Bach, they are super for self-healing and they are available on the internet. I found them on archive.org.

Use your Mercury

Mercury rules two signs thus subtly influences the 3rd and 6th house of the chart too. He is the impressionable adolescent of the chart. So while evaluating him, you have to analyse the other planets influencing/aspecting/conjunct him. Check out the position of the planetary ruler of the house he is placed in. Also, if he is behaving abnormally by being combust, debilitated or retrograde. A general observation is that he can perform well if placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and the 7th houses, if he gets guidance from benefic influences then it would be better. He behaves like an irresponsible adolescent in the 3rd, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th more so if he has no benefic influences to guide him.

pexels-photo-255441-min

(Look for one exceptional combust event called caizmi, it is when the planet is less than 1deg from the Sun. Here the Sun consumes the planet and takes on his powers completely. The planet is sitting on the lap of the king Sun. So here his powers are more radiant, completely directed inwards and very good for spiritual growth. Mercury tells you how to go about it, so after the maturity age of Mercury, your Sun+Mercury will drive your spiritual growth’s engine.)

Mercury is often with the Sun as he is never 30deg away from him in the sky, he is quite friendly with the Sun, Venus and Rahu. He dislikes the Moon and Jupiter and is neutral to Mars, Saturn and Ketu.

Mercury is pure intellect coupled with communication and the courage when you know that you are correct. Technical knowledge, ‘how to do’ gives him power. Reasoning, intellect, discrimination, analysis, expression and objective, to the point stuff is his forte. So if he misbehaves a lot can go wrong in your life on the physical and psychological levels. Mantras are Sanskrit, this language ‘defines Light’ (Dev Bhasha) in the most perfect way (Sams-krutam). Thus they are the domain of Mercury. The seed of power intentionally put to use. I always suggest beej mantra because they are the easiest to remember and pronounce. Especially with so few people actually learning/knowing Sanskrit, if I tell them to recite/jaap long stotras/suktas they will just not do it. But beej mantras are the easiest and the most potent, so perfect.

The fastest remedy thus would be reciting the beej mantra of Mercury once, thrice or 108 times on a Wednesday. ‘Om braang breeng broung sah Budhaya namah’ Om.

But there are so many tiny things you can do to increase or regulate and balance Mercury’s energies in your life. Some of which I have written in my previous post on boldnessHere are few more such tiny things.

  1. Be aware of your mouth, teeth and tongue, Mercury is communication, your mouth and throat. So best is brushing your teeth and tongue twice a day. It may sound silly but it works.
  2. Breathe. Do some breathing exercises like pranayam for a few minutes everyday.
  3. Wear a bit of jewellery made from copper, silver or gold.
  4. Mercury likes analysis, so if you feel drawn to it, solve puzzles. There are so many apps which offer innovative puzzles. Do a puzzle a day.
  5. Read about the colors, smells/fragrances and food tastes linked to the planets in these posts. If you feel inclined, try to them in your life

Mercury is often ignored, but he is in a way, the other face of the Moon. The Moon gives him the data from his unfathomable depths and he uses this data meaningfully to gain insights and learn. Mercury tells you how to use the things you have.

Use your Mercury

Oils for massage and other remedies

Oil of any kind is primarily linked to Saturn, and specifically sesame/til oil is the heathiest one for your body is and the specific ‘item’ of Shani. Now let’s check out some more in the remedies, very simple ones, more acceptable for the general public, So no mantra, yantra, tantra based stuff for now (I have written about these in my past several posts if you are interested).

So check out in your horoscope which planets are placed as follows

  1. Benefic planets if placed in the dushamsthan 6th, 8th or  12th house
  2. Malefic planets in the Kendra 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses or the Kona 5th or 9th houses.

If you have any planets like this it is possible that they are adversely affecting your life, so let’s balance out these energies by charity and intention. Giving away items associated with their energies may prove beneficial. The concept is that you owe a debt from your past life which you are paying off now. Do it with a clear heart and intention of karma balance.

Oils for massage and other remedies

The Sun – If your Sun is under stress or the 5th house of your chart is damaged, this means some inauspicious acts in your past life have put your personality/self-ego under stress. You may have violated ancient traditions that ruined your self-respect. This can manifest as struggles, legal problems, court cases, being accused for no reason etc. One solution is to perform any religious ritual prescribed by your faith. (Hindus can do a Satyanaryan puja). If you can get your close relatives to participate in this ritual it would be even better. Items associated with the Sun, which you can give away are saffron/kesar, wheat, copper, brown colored sugar or jaggery, red cloth, red flowers, red sandalwood.

Moon – If the Moon is badly placed or if the 4th house of your chart is under malefic influences, especially Ketu’s influence. In some past life you may have hurt your mother, perhaps thrown her out of your house. This may manifest as financial losses, diseases and debts with disproportionate mental stress. One solution is to put a silver coin in running water or the sea. If you can get your close relatives to touch this coin before you toss it, it will be even better. Items linked to the moon are white sandalwood, rice, milk, silver, sugar specifically misri/khadisakkar, white cloth, white flowers, camphor which can be given as Daana.

Mars – If your Mars is afflicted or your 1st house or 8th house is under the influence of malefics, especially Ketu, you owe your relatives something. You may have harmed your relatives in some way in your past lives. You may face unexplainable trouble and losses around your 28th year. If this is so the best solution would be to collect money from your family members, maybe an equal contribution from your close relatives and donate this money in a mutually agreed temple. Items you can donate to balance Mars’ energies are copper, masoor grains (red lentil, Lens culinaris), wheat, sauf/badisheb/fennel seeds, red cloth, red flowers, red sandalwood.

Mercury – If in your chart, the Mercury or your 3rd house or 6th house is under stress you have done some wrong to a sister or girl in your past life. So in this life you tend to have a lot of problems, losses in money, psychiatric issues, and no help forthcoming. The best solution is rather typical, take a few sea shells (yellow colored are best), burn them and put the ash in flowing water. If you can get your close relatives to touch the shells before you do this, it will give better results. Items resonating with his energies are green cloth, green gram/Moong grains (Vigna radiata), camphor, turpentine oil which can be donated in Nav-graha temples.

Oils for massage and other remedies

Jupiter – If the Jupiter in your chart or the 9th or 12th house is afflicted with malefics, especially Rahu, it is considered as a debt owed to the father. This may manifest as loss of saved money in the old age. The solution is to plant a peepal (Ficus religiosa) tree and take care of it so that it survives or do some seva/help out at your local temple. Jupiter linked items for donation/Daana are turmeric, jaggery or brown colored sugar, yellow flowers, yellow cloth, yellow sweets.

Venus – If the Venus or the 2nd or 7th house in your chart is under stress, it indicates a debt owed to a wife from a past life, maybe you tortured her. In this life this may manifest as grief and obstacles in performing religious and auspicious rituals. The easiest solution is to feed a white colored cow. Cow means a desi cow with a prominent hump. Such a cow has tremendous aura and she can give you blessings. Feeding her or even touching her will increase the power of your own aura. Venus linked items are ghee, camphor, curd, rice, white cloth, white flowers which you can give away as Daana.

Saturn – If your Saturn is giving bad results or if the 10th or 11th house of the chart is damaged this indicates that you cheated someone or tortured a helpless person in some life. The good option to create positive karma is to offer food to a few people who work as labourers. Items linked to Saturn which can be given away are black gram/urad grains, black cloth, (feeding a chapati/bread to ravens also works. Ravens are the link between the other dimension Pitra-lok and our Martya-lok. If by chance you owe your ancestors they can be satisfied by this act).

Rahu – If the 12th house is under stress this also indicates a type of ancestral debt where maybe a baby was aborted before birth. Imprisonment, betrayal, physical injury etc can be the results. Things which can be given away are yellow mustard grains, mustard oil, mixed seven types of grains, lead, blanket. Another option is to get a coconut, get every one in your close family to touch it and put it in flowing water/sea.

Ketu – If the 6th house is under stress this indicates that you have gone against your Dharma conscience, against ‘God’ in some terrible way. In this life this manifests as being childless, diseased, haunted, losses in every way. You can feed a multicolored dog (this is a remedy from the Lal kitab or Arun samhita, and for some reason it does work) or donate sesame/til grains, blanket, lead, saffron/kesar, any seven types of grains mixed together in a Nav-graha temple.

You might find this a bit strange, but these very simple remedies work. A fistful of grain or a few drops of oil or a piece of cloth! The planets are linked some way to these things. So if you have a Navgraha temple near where you live you can offer any of these items to the planet moorthi installed there. The second option is to offer the item in flowing water/river or the sea. Donating them to genuine brahmins is also possible, but you may not find anyone who really deserves charity and these are rather typical items. So the best option is a temple or flowing water/sea. If you are facing exceptional problems and the planet is giving severely bad results then these items can be buried in the ground, but make sure that you do it in some lonely place. (Some of these are from the Arun samhita/ Lal kitab)

(When to give the Daana? refer to this post)

In Sanatan Dharm/Hinduism, everyone owes 3 types of debts. First is to the parents/ancestors, because they give us birth and take care of us. Next is to the society because it shelters us and offers us opportunities to live a fuller life. And finally to the Guru because he shows us the path to liberation and helps us find our real self. And these have to be repaid. The first one is repaid when we do our Dharma of taking care of our parents as per our conscience and by having good children to carry on the family. The second one is when we contribute positively to the society by helping others either by doing charity (if you can afford it), and being kind/helpful to others around you. And the third one is very cryptic, you don’t have to pay anything here. You repay the debt you owe your Guru when you practice what he has shown you and you finally gain your objective.
