The Gayatri mantra is an all-round remedy for all issues in life and everyone above 6yrs of age must recite this mantra. It should be a part of everyone’s daily routine.
Ideal would be to recite the Gayatri mantra mentally 108 times, 3 times a day, ie dawn, midday and dusk, at the three Sandhya times. Simple mental recitation takes 10mins, you can do it wherever you are. But for some reason, if you cannot do 108 repeats, at least recite it 1, 3, 27, 54 times. It is a mantra, but you can even think of it as a prayer to your internal divinity or as a way of invoking your inner light or consider the Devi Gayatri as your mother, or whatever makes sense to you, even a song! but do recite this. It is the only way you can protect your Sva-dharma, your internal foundation, the philosophy you live your life by.
The Yajnopavit Sanskar is a compulsory rite for Hindus where the person takes a life time Sankalp to perform the Gayatri puja three times a day for a life time. This indicates the essential role of the Gayatri mantra. (These days, very few boys from Brahmin families take up this intention.)
But everyone can do this small self-initiation for the Gayatri. Start on a Sunday. Wake up before sunrise and get ready. Face east, look at the rising Sun, see the power of the Gayatri reflected in his light. Offer him some water, vermillion, flowers etc, request help and support and start your practice with the Gayatri mantra. Put your entire faith/ Shraddha in it and continue this for a lifetime. Recite it yourself and encourage your family members and friends to do so. Everyone who thinks of themselves as a follower of the Sanatan Dharma must do this practice, now more than ever.
The Gayatri is the mother of the Ved, it is the Ved-mata, its the source of all mantra, all power is from it, all intelligence is born of the Gayatri mantra, it is pure consciousness. I have written several posts on the Gayatri mantra like,
(For women, no jaap, pujas etc for at least 5days of the monthly cycle as the body is undergoing controlled destruction post here)
The Gayatri mantra is the Adhar-stambh ie the pillar which supports in every way possible. For every other mantra to be effective the Gayatri mantra has to first give its support. eg if you do some Graha shanti pujas but are not doing Gayatri jaap in your life, the Shanti puja will not give full results. The Gayatri mantra is essential for everything. It is mentioned in the Rg Ved (3.62.10) and it’s Seer is Rishi Vishvamitra.Vishvamitra means, ‘Vishvasya Mitra iti Vishvamitra’. Thus Vishvamitra is the friend of the universe, the Sun of the underlying intelligent consciousness, the Illumination within everyone, the all pervading Consciousness. Thus the Supreme intelligence itself has Seen the Gayatri mantra. Thus the power of this mantra.
I am stressing on the Gayatri as a daily practice for a specific reason. Yesterday I thought of writing a post on the upcoming Rahu’s transit into Krutika nakshatra. I started analysing the transits of the other planets etc during this period and felt worried. I abandoned that post and decided to write this short one instead. Focus on the solution.
In the present context, the supreme importance of the Gayatri mantra is the Rg ved rk 3.53.12 which says this, ‘Vishvamitrasya rakshati brahmaedam bharatam janam’. In simple words, ‘This Highest Consciousness of Vishvamitra, ie the Gayatri mantra, continually protects the people of Bharat’. All people who follow the Sanatan Dharma, wherever they may reside on the earth are the ‘people of Bharat’.
Given the situations which might come in the future, it is imperative that everyone invokes the Gayatri mantra. If each one of us does our individual routine with the Gayatri mantra, the collective will also gain its protection.
Om, Bhuh Bhuvah Swah
Om Tat Savitur Varenyam
Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi
Dhiyo Yo nah Prachodayat,
Combust planets have their energy directed inwards. This combust planet will give more results on the internal spiritual levels rather the outer material levels. This is not a punishment, nor a thing to be afraid of. It simply is. This combust planet indicates a lesson in life which is to be learnt intensely. Maybe we didn’t appreciate this planet’s gifts in our past lives, so in this life our divine connection is intimately intertwined with this planet. This planet can give very good results if used consciously. If you remain unaware of its potential and not use it actively, it will manifest as imbalances of the physical life and as medical conditions. Often ‘over-heating’, ‘over-activation’ type of medicalproblems or surgeries are possible. Issues with the eye-sight are also frequently seen here. Depending on which planet is combust there can be other symptoms too. I have writtenabout these topics in several past posts.
Eg Mercury combust is very common. But people with this combination also make for excellent writers, public speakers. (eg current Indian PM Narendra Modi. His birthdate is 17th Sept 1950, time unknown. But the Sun and Mercury are on the same degree, Caizmi Mercury.) So those, about 25%, of us with Mercury combust should write, learn skills, paint, knit, do something with those hands! Then depending on the position, placement and power of Sun+Mercury combo, you will be given more skills of other types too, including doing ‘magic’ or tantra if your horoscope permits. The dreams states and other sub-conscious states will give valuable cues which you will then use in your physical life. Mercury is about thought, action and use. And he has merged with the Sun. So you will use your creativity in every possible way!
The Sun now is not just ‘Sun’, he is the ‘Sun+the combust planet’ combination energy. In your chart, this combo now rules all their combined houses/signs. ie Leo and the signs of the combust planet. Eg if Gemini ascendant, Mercury combust, the ‘Sun+Mercury’ combination will together control the ascendant sign, is together the ascendant lord, the combined ruler of the 4th house-sign Virgo and 11th house-sign Leo. They together will subtly influence the 3rd house-natural sign Gemini, 5th house-natural sign Leo and 6th house-natural sign Virgo. So this combo becomes very important in this horoscope.
Now how to balance these combination energies? First of all focus on your Sun.
A good option is to do the Surya-namaskar. It improves physical fitness, mental strength as well as spiritual strength. If you are not physically fit, do it as you can, imperfectly, slowly. Start with one repeat per day and gradually increase as per your fitness levels. Do not strain yourself. Sit in the early morning/late evening sunlight, when the sun is yellow-orange and try to expose your skin to this sunlight. Never sit in the white bright Sun, it is very harsh.
Next option is to give Surya Arghya. This is how everyone is supposed to start the day, but now most of us have forgotten. In one small copper pot, take water.Add one pinch kumkum/ vermillion or a strand of saffron if you can afford, one red/orange/yellow flower, some grains of raw rice. Even one of these things is good enough if you cannot find them all. Stand in your balcony, barefoot, look at the rising sun, hold the pot in your hands, rise your hands and pour the water out in a thin stream. The stream will be at your eye level, between you and the Sun. See the light of the Sun reflected in the water stream. After you pour out the water, touch the water fallen on the ground with your right hand fingers and touch them to your eyes.
A mantra for the Sun is recited as you pour out the water. Options are
This is the full Surya arghya mantra. You will have to learn this by heart then give Argya with it.
Mahamrutyunjai mantra ‘ Om tryambakam yajamahe sugandhiṃ pushti-vardhanam urvarukamiva bandhanat mrutyor mukshiya ma amrutat Om’
Gayatri mantra ‘Om Bhuh Bhuvah Svah, Om Tat Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi, Dhiyo Yo nah Prachodayat Om’
Or at least, when you see him in the morning, do a simple Namaskar. Fold your hands in gratitude to the early morning Sun.
Then a fun option is adding Sun’s energy in the form of the food which links to him. The fragrances and spices with his energy. Or wear the colors which are linked to him.
If you are a Hindu, you can do a Satya-narayan puja or a Rudra-abhishek or a Nava-graha Shanti puja once a year on any auspicious day or your birthday etc. But do this only if you can afford to. This would be an extra thing but it is good as the entire family can participate and benefit from its energy.
But the best remedy is giving yourself at least 15mins everyday. You have to do personal mediation ie Dhyan. Look into your third eye and simply breath in and out slowly. The Ajapa mantra of Soham/ Hamsa will automatically take over and you will be more in connect with your internal sub-conscious self. The energy gets a safe channel to express itself. You should not be scared of the Sun or the combust planet. From my personal experience, unless you give your Sun+planet combo this inner level opening, you will face physical problems. Accept what is being offered to you by them, don’t worry. Once you start your Dhyan, the physical problems will lessen and your inner benefits will start becoming tangible. (My own horoscope’s most important benefic is exactly on the Sun, fully combust. I give him a channel for expression so that I benefit on the inner levels. There were some unpleasant medical issues on the physical levels, but they got resolved as I allowed him an outlet. And in any case, what I gain from this Sun+planet combo is immense).
Now a quick look on the 5 Tara-graha, planets which can get combust. You have to do something about them too. Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. These are some thought processes for you to think about and if necessary change within yourself.
Mercury – The mind and the mental-processes are stuck. So exercise your mind, solve puzzles, write, read something new every day. Meet with your same-age people, eg join a creative arts club. Give your mental processes enough rest, sleep is important. Avoid over-stimulating your mind, avoid drugs etc. Do not argue or speak bad words unnecessarily. Healing of the Vishuddhi chakra helps.
Venus – Be fair in love, give and receive from your loved ones. Appreciate what you have. Avoid criticising. Do not be caught up in external beauty of cosmetics and expensive clothes. Venus is actually the Teacher of self-love. So meditation is important. Spend some time with yourself to know the inner you. If you know yourself, you will also love yourself. Secure in your self-love, you will radiate positivity, good vibes and everyone will reflect this. Healing the Anahata chakra is a good option.
Mars – Form your opinions, avoid being influenced by others. Do not get involved in unnecessary emotional drama or arguments. Try to develop patience, do not react unnecessarily or over-react. Develop courage, do not be afraid of life and its events. Your vital energy is stuck somewhere inside, let it out. Do healing on your Manipur chakra.
Jupiter– Read about religious or philosophical subjects. There are several ways to approach the inner divinity. Think or write about your personal philosophy. Find a source of faith which appeals to you. Personal meditation is very important to know your innermost thoughts, so start a regular spiritual practice. Healing the Swadhishthan chakra helps.
Saturn– Avoid being selfish, individualistic behaviour cannot sustain. Always follow your conscience. Try to help others, there is always someone who needs help. Be kind. Affirm that you are secure, do not fear or grieve. Open yourself to new things are coming in. Take a calculated risk sometime. Do smile, take a break from being so serious. Do healing on the Muladhar Chakra.
Healing the chakras linked to the planets always helps. I have written about doing chakra healing in this post. It takes about 10-15 mins for your entire chakra system, and it works beautifully. You can do it once a week if you have time. Or do it quickly a minute per chakra before you go to bed. Or you can do it as your daily ‘spiritual practice’. But do it. ‘Energy goes where attention goes’, is very true. When you consciously ‘look’ at every chakrafor 1-2 mins, you are channelising tremendous energy inwards specifically for each one of them. It makes a very big difference. If you are doing this daily, try it for 21 days before you analyse its effects.
There are simple activities which you can do (post here) to balance the planetary energies. These are one-time remedies but if the adverse effect was intense you can repeat them 1-2 times a year. Or do their Homa (post here), this is also a one-time remedy, but you can do the Homa whenever you feel like it, it is quite an enjoyable experience in itself. Or just recite their mantra on their corresponding week-days, this would be a weekly thing then. Do what you feel like, all methods are equally effective. When you do these remedies, visualise blessings ie golden-silvery-shimmery light around you. Whatever you do, keep your intentions strong and focused. Also be grateful to these conscious energies represented by the planet. Use your will, the planets are but a reflection of your own self, they are not something separate from you. When you heal them you are actually healing yourself.
“Wonderful as it may seem, relieve your patient of the mood or moods such as are given in this system of healing, and your patient is better”
– Dr Edward Bach, 1936
Bach flower remedies are one of the best ways to cure deep seated problems on all levels. Am sure you must have heard of them, but if not, you must really try them out. Dr.Edward Bach, a century ago, had experimented with the healing properties of flowers and came up with this set of 38 Bach Flower remedies.
The basic concept is behind every manifested illness there exists an imbalance on the inner self. Anxieties, fears, depression, tension, trauma, dislikes, avoidance, greed, apathy and other negative emotions over a period of time result in illness of the body. Most doctors will treat the outer symptoms of your body but will not cure the inner real inner problem. Modern doctors won’t even think on these deeper lines of thought! Thus over time the illness will repeat itself or the same imbalance will manifest as a different illness.
This same theory is behind curing issues caused by planetary imbalances using the perfumes, colors and food tastesassociated with them. But planetary remedies may not be so easily accepted by most people who still think astrology to be hogwash! But Bach flower remedies are ‘mainstream’, your homeopathic physician may also be prescribing these. In India, I bought the entire set of 38 bottles for around Rs 4000/- from a wholesale supplier of homeopathic medicines. As I use the liquid, I keep topping it up with more medicinal brandy. So if you can buy a set it is a life time investment.
The beauty of these remedies is that they have Zero side-effects and they actually work. Then there are lots of questionnaires online where you can find out which emotional issues you need to address. You can combine upto 4 flower remedies at one time. A quick list of the remedies, with their keywords of the mental conditions that they address.
Agrimony – remedy for someone who is secretly addictedto substances, anxious and deeply unhappy behind a cheerful face.

Pine – A solution for self-guilt, if someone is ashamed for no reason, feels heavy self reproach, feels unworthy and undeserving.
Red Chestnut – For those who are overly concerned and worried for the welfare of loved ones (thus always ignoring themselves).
Rock Rose – If you are frozen with terror and fright, is used an emergency remedy.
Rock Water (is basically pure natural water, I have seen Ganga water also works equally well) – To sure problems caused by self-denial, rigidity and self-repression and tendency for self-perfection. These people are also self-sacrificing but highly opinionated.
Scleranthus – To cure the inability to choose, for indecision, being dizzy and uncertain. To redress issues arising from imbalance
Star of Bethlehem – To be used in extreme stress, severe shock and extreme trauma, is an emergency remedy. (Is also a repair and renew remedy)
Sweet Chestnut – To help someone in extreme mental anguish, hopeless despair, intense sorrow, if someone is is hopeless, feels that all options are over now.

Water Violet – is helpful for those quietly self-reliant people who are isolated, anti-social, disdainful, very private, proud and aloof.
White Chestnut – is used to silence cluttered unwanted thoughts and mental arguments, it stops the unrest in the mind.
Wild Oat – can help in making life changing decisions correctly when at major cross roads in life. Helps when there is uncertainty about the direction in life and lack of clarity.
Wild Rose – When someone is drifting, resigned, apathetic with lack of ambition and motivation, feels resigned to an unpleasant situation.
Willow – To cure self-pity, resentment, bitterness, and for those want to regain a sense of proportion in life.
Go through this list of meanings or take a self test to find out what are the negative thought processes and emotional behaviour holding you back. Then use the flowers. If you have bought the set, put 2 drops of the remedy in a glass of water and drink it, 3 times a day, or put them in your water bottle. When you no longer need to take it, you will actually forget to take it!
Now the fun part. I have used these remedies for years and found a few shortcuts which also work equally well. These shortcuts are especially useful if you cannot find the set in your local market or cannot afford to buy them.
I live in the Himalayas where some of these plants are naturally found. So if you live in such a place yourself, you can gather the fresh flowers and keep them in a glass bowl with clean water in the direct sunlight for 3-4 hours. Then store that water in a clean bottle. If you intend to preserve it for a longer time you can add a few drops of medicinal brandy to it.
Drink it whenever you feel the need.
It works beautifully for small children and infants, you can even put a few drops on their forehead.
Put it in spray bottle and spray it in your room or use it to wipe the floors of your house.
Wash your clothes in it ,put a few drops of the remedy in your washing machine water.
You can spray it on your pet if it is unwell.
A even simpler way would be keep the flower itself with you, maybe wear it in your hair, or keep it in a small vase on your table.
Or download a nice photo of the flower and keep it as your phone/laptop wallpaper.
Simply recite its name a few times (11 or 27 or more if you wish) in your mind, visualising the flower.
Recite its name under your breath and blow on a glass of water and drink it.
Write its name a few times on a piece of paper.
Draw 2 concentric circles, in the inner one write your name and within the outer one write the name of the flower remedy you have chosen for yourself. Keep this paper under your pillow or in your pocket.
You can combine Bach flowers with Reiki or other healing techniques, they work beautifully.
These pretty flowers work always. So do use the Bach flower remedies if you feel inclined.
I recommend reading ‘The Twelve Healers and other remedies”, and other books written by Dr. Edward Bach, they are super for self-healing and they are available on the internet. I found them on archive.org.
Mercury rules two signs thus subtly influences the 3rd and 6th house of the chart too. He is the impressionable adolescent of the chart. So while evaluating him, you have to analyse the other planets influencing/aspecting/conjunct him. Check out the position of the planetary ruler of the house he is placed in. Also, if he is behaving abnormally by being combust, debilitated or retrograde. A general observation is that he can perform well if placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and the 7th houses, if he gets guidance from benefic influences then it would be better. He behaves like an irresponsible adolescent in the 3rd, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th more so if he has no benefic influences to guide him.
(Look for one exceptional combust event called caizmi, it is when the planet is less than 1deg from the Sun. Here the Sun consumes the planet and takes on his powers completely. The planet is sitting on the lap of the king Sun. So here his powers are more radiant, completely directed inwards and very good for spiritual growth. Mercury tells you how to go about it, so after the maturity age of Mercury, your Sun+Mercury will drive your spiritual growth’s engine.)
Mercury is pure intellect coupled with communication and the courage when you know that you are correct. Technical knowledge, ‘how to do’ gives him power. Reasoning, intellect, discrimination, analysis, expression and objective, to the point stuff is his forte. So if he misbehavesa lot can go wrong in your life on the physicaland psychological levels. Mantras are Sanskrit, this language ‘defines Light’ (Dev Bhasha) in the most perfect way (Sams-krutam). Thus they are the domain of Mercury. The seed of power intentionally put to use. I always suggest beej mantra because they are the easiest to remember and pronounce. Especially with so few people actually learning/knowing Sanskrit, if I tell them to recite/jaaplong stotras/suktas they will just not do it. But beej mantras are the easiest and the most potent, so perfect.
The fastest remedy thus would be reciting the beej mantra of Mercuryonce, thrice or 108 times on a Wednesday. ‘Om braang breeng broung sah Budhaya namah’ Om.
But there are so many tiny things you can do to increase or regulate and balance Mercury’senergies in your life. Some of which I have written in my previous post on boldness. Here are few more such tiny things.
Be aware of your mouth, teeth and tongue, Mercuryis communication, your mouth and throat. So best is brushing your teeth and tongue twice a day. It may sound silly but it works.
Breathe. Do some breathing exercises like pranayam for a few minutes everyday.
Mercury is often ignored, but he is in a way, the other face of the Moon. The Moon gives him the data from his unfathomable depths and he uses this data meaningfully to gain insights and learn. Mercury tells you how to use the things you have.
Oil of any kind is primarily linked to Saturn, and specifically sesame/til oilis the heathiest one for your body is and the specific ‘item’ of Shani. Now let’s check out some more in the remedies, very simple ones, more acceptable for the general public, So no mantra, yantra, tantra based stuff for now (I have written about these in my past several posts if you are interested).
So check out in your horoscope which planets are placed as follows
Maleficplanets in the Kendra 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th houses or the Kona 5th or 9th houses.
If you have any planets like this it is possible that they are adversely affecting your life, so let’s balance out these energies by charity and intention. Giving away items associated with their energies may prove beneficial. The concept is that you owe a debt from your past life which you are paying off now. Do it with a clear heart and intention of karma balance.
The Sun – If your Sun is under stress or the 5th house of your chart is damaged, this means some inauspicious acts in your past life have put your personality/self-ego under stress. You may have violated ancient traditions that ruined your self-respect. This can manifest as struggles, legalproblems, court cases, being accused for no reason etc. One solution is to perform any religious ritual prescribed by your faith. (Hindus can do a Satyanaryan puja). If you can get your close relatives to participate in this ritual it would be even better. Items associated with the Sun, which you can give away are saffron/kesar, wheat, copper, brown colored sugar or jaggery, red cloth, red flowers, red sandalwood.
Moon – If the Moon is badly placed or if the 4th house of your chart is under malefic influences, especially Ketu’sinfluence. In some past life you may have hurt your mother, perhaps thrown her out of your house. This may manifest as financial losses, diseases and debts with disproportionate mental stress. One solution is to put a silver coin in running water or the sea. If you can get your close relatives to touch this coin before you toss it, it will be even better. Items linked to the moon are white sandalwood, rice, milk, silver, sugar specifically misri/khadisakkar, white cloth, white flowers, camphor which can be given as Daana.
Mars– If your Mars is afflicted or your 1st house or 8th house is under the influence of malefics, especially Ketu, you owe your relatives something. You may have harmed your relatives in some way in your past lives. You may face unexplainable trouble and losses around your 28th year. If this is so the best solution would be to collect money from your family members, maybe an equal contribution from your close relatives and donate this money in a mutually agreed temple. Items you can donate to balance Mars’ energies are copper, masoor grains (red lentil, Lens culinaris), wheat, sauf/badisheb/fennel seeds, red cloth, red flowers, red sandalwood.
Mercury – If in your chart, the Mercury or your 3rd house or 6th house is under stress you have done some wrong to a sister or girl in your past life. So in this life you tend to have a lot of problems, losses in money, psychiatric issues, and no help forthcoming. The best solution is rather typical, take a few sea shells (yellow colored are best), burn them and put the ash in flowing water. If you can get your close relatives to touch the shells before you do this, it will give better results. Items resonating with his energies are green cloth, green gram/Moong grains (Vigna radiata), camphor, turpentine oil which can be donated in Nav-graha temples.
Jupiter– If the Jupiterin your chart or the 9th or 12th house is afflicted with malefics, especially Rahu, it is considered as a debt owed to the father. This may manifest as loss of saved money in the old age. The solution is to planta peepal (Ficus religiosa) tree and take care of it so that it survives or do some seva/help out at your local temple. Jupiter linked items for donation/Daana are turmeric, jaggery or brown colored sugar, yellow flowers, yellow cloth, yellow sweets.
Venus– If the Venus or the 2ndor 7th house in your chart is under stress, it indicates a debt owed to a wifefrom a past life, maybe you tortured her. In this life this may manifest as grief and obstacles in performing religious and auspicious rituals. The easiest solution is to feed a white colored cow. Cow means a desi cow with a prominent hump. Such a cow has tremendous aura and she can give you blessings. Feeding her or even touching her will increase the power of your own aura. Venus linked items are ghee, camphor, curd, rice, white cloth, white flowers which you can give away as Daana.
Saturn – If your Saturn is giving bad results or if the 10th or 11th house of the chart is damaged this indicates that you cheated someone or tortured a helpless person in some life. The good option to create positive karma is to offer food to a few people who work as labourers. Items linked to Saturn which can be given away are black gram/urad grains, black cloth, (feeding a chapati/bread to ravens also works. Ravens are the link between the other dimension Pitra-lok and our Martya-lok. If by chance you owe your ancestors they can be satisfied by this act).
Rahu – If the 12th house is under stress this also indicates a type of ancestral debt where maybe a baby was aborted before birth. Imprisonment, betrayal, physical injury etc can be the results. Things which can be given away are yellow mustard grains, mustard oil, mixed seven types of grains, lead, blanket. Another option is to get a coconut, get every one in your close family to touch it and put it in flowing water/sea.
Ketu – If the 6th house is under stress this indicates that you have gone against your Dharma / conscience, against ‘God’ in some terrible way. In this life this manifests as being childless, diseased, haunted, losses in every way. You can feed a multicolored dog (this is a remedy from the Lal kitab or Arun samhita, and for some reason it does work) or donate sesame/til grains, blanket, lead, saffron/kesar, any seven types of grains mixed together in a Nav-graha temple.
You might find this a bit strange, but these very simple remedies work. A fistful of grain or a few drops of oil or a piece of cloth! The planets are linked some way to these things. So if you have a Navgraha temple near where you live you can offer any of these items to the planet moorthi installed there. The second option is to offer the item in flowing water/river or the sea. Donating them to genuine brahmins is also possible, but you may not find anyone who really deserves charity and these are rather typical items. So the best option is a temple or flowing water/sea. If you are facing exceptional problems and the planet is giving severely bad results then these items can be buried in the ground, but make sure that you do it in some lonely place. (Some of these are from the Arun samhita/ Lal kitab)
In Sanatan Dharm/Hinduism, everyone owes 3 types of debts. First is to the parents/ancestors, because they give us birth and take care of us. Next is to the society because it shelters us and offers us opportunities to live a fuller life. And finally to the Guru because he shows us the path to liberation and helps us find our real self. And these have to be repaid. The first one is repaid when we do our Dharma of taking care of our parents as per our conscience and by having good children to carry on the family. The second one is when we contribute positively to the society by helping others either by doing charity (if you can afford it), and being kind/helpful to others around you. And the third one is very cryptic, you don’t have to pay anything here. You repay the debt you owe your Guru when you practice what he has shown you and you finally gain your objective.
Am sure you would wonder why would anyone want to increase the energies of Saturn in their life. Well, we are not increasing/decreasing anything, we are just trying to balance it and make effective use of it.
Wherever Saturn is placed, he puts restrictions and constrictions on the keywords of that house. If badly placed, then he can cause quite a lot of problems, from physical aging, to problems in social identity, profession, money flow, problems in the residence, nameless fears, no comforts, pessimistic attitude, emotional restrictions, no rest, no sleep etc. He is exaltedin Libra and debilitated in Aries (the exact opposite for his father the Sun). However after he matures at the age of 36yrs, his actions become more understandable. Sun, Moon and Mars are his enemies, Mercury, Venus, Rahu are friends with him and Jupiterand Ketu are sort of neutral to him. He is a natural malefic and has the ability to strike fear.
Saturn can perform generally well in houses 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th, but this is a very generic statement. You will need to check what aspects he is under and what houses he owns too. E.g. Saturn in the 8th house will give a long life, i.e. he restricts death, but if there are other influences he might make it difficult to leave the aged body! More malefics influence him, more problems will he cause.
Saturn in the 1st, 4th, 5th and 6th houses generally gives troubling results unless balanced out by some benefic influences. (One exception here is Libra ascendant, if Saturn is in Libra, as yogkarak and exalted, he can even grant Moksh if other planets support.)
If you have Saturn aspecting/conjoint the Sun or the Moon take special care of your eyes.
The Saturn beej mantra is, ‘Om praang preeng prowng sah Shanischarya namah’, which can be recited once, thrice or 108 times on Saturdays.
There are a few things that you can do to regulate and balance Saturn’s energies.
Take care of your teeth, brush with astringent toothpastes.
Also take care of your bones, take your calcium and eat a healthy diet.
If you drink milk, do not drink buffalo milk, stick to cow milk.
Try to get an oil based massage once in a while. If it is not possible do a self-massage, apply your favourite massage oil to your feet, hands and head etc wherever you can easily and then shower.
Avoid non vegetarian food and alcohol. It may be impossible but then if you can try to limit yourself to just fish for the protein and limit alcohol intake for only at social events.
Feed ravens once in a while, give them chapati or bread something made of grains. (If ravens are not available near where you live then next option is crows)
Do not lie and do not cheat. Such an important lesson, our teachers taught us when we were children. Also avoid taking up professions where you are required to lie all the time! e.g. lawyers? (If you are already a lawyer, help a genuine poor, blind or aged client free of charge once in a while).
And the kindest things that you can do are these acts of charity. These will help your own soul as well as bring real happiness to those who are forgotten by society. Do this with a genuine intention of being of service with love and respect.
Call up your aged parents or grandparents once a week, or run some errands for them if you get the time.
If you can afford it, maybe once a year, give a treat, sweets or fruits to an old age home. If it is not possible then take your own aged parents or grandparents for a special treat once in a while. Be compassionate.
Specifically try to help out blind people or aged people. It can be as simple as helping them on the street or giving up your seat in the bus.
Saturn is the energy of Karma, you have to pay-back and rebalance, there is no option sometimes. So some pain will be involved. Interpreting Saturn’s role in your horoscope is very typical. You do not like the lessons that he teaches, he can be quite harsh. So try to bring into yourself the qualities of responsibility, silence, self-discipline, detachment and objectivity, in short ‘grow up’. Know that you have to give back, if you can give it back gracefully, karma will be more easily satisfied.
Tiny behavioural shifts leading to the changeyou desire. And there was a request for more of this sort of stuff. Your behaviour is linked to the planetary configuration you chose at birth. You get a few assets and a few challenges. So where are your assets in the chart?
First and foremost your mind, the Moon, how you perceive events. A well placed Moon will keep you happy internally. If you get caught in a bad situation you will bounce back sooner because your mind supports you.
Second the ascendant sign. This is your entire personality and your environment. If this sign is strong with benefics placed here it gives an advantage in life.
And then the ascendant lord, the owner of the ascendant sign. His placement is important because this determines how your personality and environment interact. How comfortable you are in your body. If this planet is placed badly you will always be in conflict, either because of the body related issues or the stress that your environment will put on you.
If these 3 are well placed, your life becomes relatively more comfortable and manageable. About 50% of your personality is created by these 3 forces, if you engage in activities which are as per their keywords you will feel more at ease. But then there are a few challenges which we have been born with.
Now let’s see how we can channelise the energies of the moon in our life. The Mantra of the Moon is ‘Om Shraang shreeng shrowng sah chandraya namah’, you can recite this once, thrice or 108 times weekly on Mondays or monthly on full-moon days.
On every full moon night, take a cup full of milk and leave it under the light of the full moon for 5 minutes then drink it. If you don’t like milk, use water.
Do Tratak /staring at the full moon. This is to be done very briefly, not more than 1 minute.
If you keep track of the phases of the moon, the second day after the no-moon day/amavasya is especially potent. If you can sight the crescent moon, it will be visible just after sunset on the western horizon. Fold your hands in a Namaskar and recite the beej mantra of the moon, ‘OM shraang shreeng shroung sah chandraya namah 3 times. Or just ‘Om chandraya namah’ 3 times. Feel his energy entering you.
The full moon (Kojagiri pournima) in the month of Ashwin, (generally October), when the moon is in Pisces and Sun is in Libra, is the night when the moon is at his maximum power. On this night we stay out in the moonlight for the whole night, keep milk under the moonlight and drink it. This is once a year.
Or if not any things else, the easiest thing is, on full moon nights express your gratitude to him, standing in his light for a few minutes.
Now for some fun things that you can do without getting involved with mantra, tantra yantra! Simple things done with a sense of gratitude and love.
On Mondays, start your day with one spoon of curd mixed with a little sugar. This is one of the best ways to balancethe moon energies.
Wear silver jewellery, maybe a bracelet or a kada?
If you live in a particularly hot location, you can try putting a clean silver coin in your water bottle and drink the water throughout the day.
Women should wear silver toe rings (second toe of both feet) and if possible silver anklets too, these will keep your monthly cycle regular.
Whenever you cross a river (flowing water not a lake) or the sea, toss a coin in it with a sense of gratitude.
And finally if you can afford it once a year, give a treat to a small girl (less than 10yrs of age). If you have a small daughter, or a niece or some small girl in your neighbourhood. Either lunch or sweets or if you can donate some fruits or something to small girls in an orphanage. Give this treat with the intention that you are offering it to the Divine Goddess herself and request Her blessing.
The Moon is a natural benefic in the horoscope and sees no other planet as his enemy. However Mercury, Saturn, Venus, Rahuand Ketu tend to make him uncomfortable. Moon aspected/conjoint with Saturn induces fear, with Mercury can lead to psychologicalproblems, with Venuscan make one lose his moral compass, with Rahu he is insatiable desiring and ultimately falling on his face, and Ketu with his trademark detachment can have devastating effects on the mind. The Moon is then is quite friendly with the Sun, Jupiterand Mars. He is exalted in Taurus and debilitated in Scorpio. Wherever he is placed, he desires comfort, security, nourishment, care and maternal ‘needy’ love from the keywords of that house.
Moon placed in the dushamsthana (6th, 8th, 12th) is never comfortable as he never gets his brand of emotional love from these houses of turmoil.
Another typical position is the 3rd house. This is ordinarily ok, but if aspected by malefics this person will try to dominate others by attacking their emotions!
The Moon performs quite well in the other houses, unless aspected/conjoint with malefics.
You can increase the energy of the Moon by mediation on a feminine aspect of the Divine, Devi, the Shri yantra or any other feminine deity from your family, faith etc whom you believe in. ‘God’ is actually ‘energy’, so gender related words are rather meaningless, feminine here means to cultivate an attitude of being receptive, introspective, contemplative, peaceful, nurturing etc and actively work for it.
(Do you ever wonder at our Vedic deities all depicted with the gold crowns with the disc of gold. Well, if you have ever seen the aura of a real enlightened Guru, his headchakras shine like that, the rest of the body may be white, pearly, gold-silver, but the head is covered with a gold colored aurawhich projects in shimmery rays! Even you, if you have been doing your spiritual practiceregularly, and have had a particularly satisfying Dhyan session, your head’s aura shines just as if you have put on a gold crown.)
The two luminaries, the Sun and the Moon are our eyes, we ‘see’ because of them, in more ways than one. Their energies resonate with the Creator and the Creation. And there is a very easy way of ensuring that you have an adequate supply of their energies in your life.
The Sun is considered a natural malefic in Vedic astrology. He represents the ‘ego‘. He is friendly with Moon, Jupiterand Mars. And is enemies with Saturn, Venus, Rahuand Ketu. He is exalted in Aries and debilitated in Libra. Which ever house he is placed in, he tends to increase the ego, selfishness and self-referential behaviour related to its keywords. Often there are undercurrents and ego-clashes in your interactions with the environment and agents represented by this house.
Sun in houses 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 9th,11th is ok. There will be some issues but unless the Sun is under even more maleficconditions, this will be ultimately ok.
In 7th he can cause serious ego clashes with husband/wife/business partners which can cause irreparable losses in personal life and businesses.
Sun in 10th house is considered to be a rather bad placement too, 10th house is natural father, Sun is also the father, but Sun in 10th can give ego-clashes with the father/boss which can cause problems in your life/social position/profession etc.
Sun in 6th, 8th and 12th can function well if he is aspected by benefics. He will create problems in these houses of turmoil, dushamsthana, but he will also give the energy to successfully deal with them.
Generally Sun conjunct Mercury is quite common, this is a good combination and the Sun enhances the powers of Mercury. Even if the Mercury is combustor caizmi or retrograde which is also quite frequent it remains a good combination.
If you can delink the Sun-self ego/lower self connect, and reestablish the Sun-Higher self/Ultimate connect, the Sun’s energies will turn into a true blessing.
Now let’s use his energies proactively. First with the Mantraand the intentions. The early morning rays of the Sun are considered beneficial from the medical point of view but they have spiritual implications also. You can use the energy from the Sun, when he is rising, still saffron-orange-red in color. Here are a few ways you can channelise it,
Do Suryanamaskar, the Yogasan, in the light of the rising Sun. Start with 3 repeats and increase one repeat per week. You can go upto maximum 108 repeats.
Doing Suryanamaskar requires you to have the basic body fitness to begin with. If you are not reasonably fit, then do some simple stretching or warm-up type of exercises in this early morning sun-light.
Do Tratak /staring at the rising disc of the Sun. This is to be done for maximum 1 minute, not more than that, when the Sun is just rising at the horizon. Not when it has fully risen else you can damage your physical eyes.
Give Surya Arghya/water with mantras. Take a copper pot/kalash, fill it with water. If you have any of these these items, a bit of red saffron/ kumkum/ vermillion/ sandalwood powder, a red flower, a few grains of raw white rice, you should add it to the water. Now stand in front of the rising Sun, face him, raise your arms and let the water flow out in a thin stream. Look at the sunlight reflected in the water. While offering the water, you can recite the Surya arghya mantra once or the Surya Beej mantra ‘Om hraang hreeng hroung sah Suryaya namah’, or just ‘Om Suryaya namah’ 3 times.
This is an audio of the full Surya arghya mantra.
If you cannot recite Sanskrit mantras for any reason, it is ok. Just stand in the light of the rising Sun, fold your hands express your gratitude to his energy for all that he gives. Be conscious of the divine.
If you cannot do anything at all, just sit in the sun, or have your morning tea in the light of the rising sun. If you cannot go out in the early morning sunlight every day, that is also ok. Do it at least on every Sunday then.
Now let’s consciously add some Sun-energy behaviour in our life. Sun ultimately represents the Divinity within you so try to bring a bit of the spiritual in your life. Some small spiritual practice, or some activity that your faith or your conscience tells you to do? But do it regularly. Also he represents Creativity, so we will need to find some creative outlets too. Here are some ideas.
Exercise for 15 mins at least, at least every alternate day, start with simple stretches, warm-up exercisess, on-the spot jogging, simple dance steps, enjoy it! Nothing too intensive, just as a reminder that you love your body and want to feel it move.
Eat a small piece of jaggery in the morning before you leave the house for the day.
Read about the colors, smells/fragrances and food tastes linked to the planets in these posts. If you feel inclined, try to use some of these energies of the Sun, even a tiny bit will be helpful.
Avoid taking donations or charity from anyone. If you have to accept some stuff of this sort then offer the energy back in the form of blessings.
Play with your kids. Set up a time for them, maybe 3 times a week? These kids are expressions of your creativity, acknowledge them in some way, give some time to them.
Write something, just two sentences every day. This ‘secret diary’ is an all-purpose solution because it allows you to express yourself creatively everyday. Write about something that you saw, felt, heard, said, read. Just 2 lines in your words.
Theatre is a natural outlet for the Sun, but not all of us can get involved in acting/drama. But you can try your hand in acting/singing/karaoke/mimicry etc in small get-togethers and parties. Practice a bit in front of the mirror before you perform in public.
And if you cannot do any of these things, then this is the simplest way. Everyday whenever you first see the Sun in the sky, morning/afternoon/evening whenever you see him, stop for a second, acknowledge his energy in your life, feel his warmth on your body and soul and be Grateful.
(Here is a link to the Aditya Hrudaya stotra, the ‘Gita’ of the Ramayan. This is narrated to Shri Ram by Rishi Agastya. It describes the magnificence of the Internal Sun!)
Any post on Medicine is incomplete if we don’t recognise the God of Ayurved, Dhanvantari. He arose from the Samudra Manthan, as one of the 14 gems/Ratna from the Sea of Ksheer (ksheer means milk/ water/ a nourishing liquid/ actually means pran). The story of Samudra manthan is a beautiful way of describing what really happens when you do dhyan. The inward breath/pran and outward apan are the dev and danav, the mount meru is your own geometry which is being churned on the support of the hexagonal kurma based of the granthi of the muladhar. (will write a separate post on this, this post is only about Dhanvantari!) But the point is that Dhanvantari is your own internal energy if you can access and activate it.
The preserver of the manifested Universe is the energy known as Vishnu. His energies are manifested in different forms which manage different aspects of this creation. Dhanvantari can be loosely understood as the guide/ferry-man/boat who helps cross the wasteland/desert. He is the form of Vishnu who is equipped with 4 things, Sudarshana chakra, Panchajanya conch, the kalash of Amrut/nectar and a Leech/Jaluka and has given us the knowledge of Ayurved. Shankh when blown is the sound of Om, sudarshan chakra is the cycle of Time, the kalash is immortality i.e. the knowledge of your reality and the Leech is the tool which removes impurities. There are several Dhanvantari Dhyan mantras, here is a beautiful one recited by Uma Mohan.
He is worshipped specifically by Ayurvedic Vaidyaraj-s (doctors) and followers of Sanatan Dharm on the 13th day of the dark half of the Ashwin month, on Dhanatrayodashi. If you can do any sincere mantra, jaap, homa of Dhanvantari on this day you will be blesssed with good health. I have seen some families worshipping Devi Laxmi on this day, its not correct, as She is worshipped on Diwali Kartik Amavasya, 2 days after Dhanatrayodashi.
Dhanvantari Mantras also have the same efficacy when it comes to health related things. Now the homa for Dhanvantari will work for anything and everything related to health. The preparatory phase and concluding phase remains the same (this post), for the mantra phase, the mantra you will use is this,
If you just want to recite the mantra, replace the ‘swaha’ by ‘namah’.
One might wonder why remedies are useful. Suppose you have some muddy water in a tank, you add clear water to it, so its muddiness will reduce. If you add even more clear water and also try to remove the muddiness, eventually your tank will be full of clear pure water. This is the same principle. You are the tank of muddy water, your karmas have turned it muddy. You add clear water by doing your spiritual practice. You remove the mud by experiencing the karmic payback related things. The intensity of the karmic payback depends on the muddiness. More mud, more intense. If you dilute the mud by adding lots of clear water, the karma you will experience will be lighter too. Eventually you will be full of only clear water. So do some spiritual activity regularly, it may be for just 2 mins, but just do it mindfully with full intention.
Medical conditions are an imbalance in your energies. If your divisional chart D-9 has the potential for a medical condition, it will manifest if your birth chart (D-1), the planetary times and the transitsallow it the scope to manifest. It will be first expressed in your astral body, will be seen in your aura upto 6 months in advance of its physical expression in the body.
Then if the client is willing and desires to augment his medical treatment using mantras it will help in faster recovery. Mantras are Sanskrit and directly link with your chakras within your energy body. By adding specific energies to the chakras themselves you are directly addressing the root of the problem. This will give permanent relief from the dissonant energies.
You can use the mantras in these following ways,
listening to them.
reciting them yourself, once, thrice or 108 times, best time is sunrise/sunset/midday.
Using water to channelise their energies. Take water in a copper silver or glass cup. Sit in front of your altar/puja ghar recite the mantra. Then blow thrice on the cup of water, intend that the energy of the mantra enters the water. You can give this water to the patient to drink. You can sprinkle the water in your house/office, clothes, bedding, food, whatever you feel like doing with the energy of the mantra.
Play them in the background as you cook food. Their energy enters the food. This can be given to the patient to eat.
You can charge your gold jewellery with your chosen mantra. I do this regularly, as gold (or silver or copper) has immense capacity to absorb energy.
Or if you want to make vibhuti/ash then you will have to do a homa of the mantra you have chosen. Vibhui works like an energy battery, you can use it for about 15 days. You can put it on your forehead, on the top of your head, use it for cleansing, put it in your bathwater, in the 4 corners of your house/office, under your bed, chair etc. Any place you want to fortify with energy, you can put vibhuti on it.
But a very important point here, if you are unable to recite the beej mantras properly, do not do homa.
Stick to any of the other methods, all are equally effective.
Option 1 – This works for everyone for everything going wrong on all levels, spiritual, emotional, physical whatever. Vishnu sahastranam. I must have listened/recited this version of the Sahastranam performed by Uma Mohan more than a thousand times. It is a good 22 mins long recitation and it has the capacity to balance every aspect of your life. You can recite it or listen to it (performed by your favourite artist), it works. Just be sure that the singer has recited the mantras properly. (In fact I have a collection of Mantras performed by renown artists, Uma Mohan, Ravindra Sathye, Vijay Prakash, Kedar Pandit, Devaki Pandit etc. and play it in my car everyday when I travel.)
Now you can do Homa too. For doing the Vishnu sahastranama homa you will have to follow the basic steps given in this post. The preparatory phase and the concluding phases remain the same for every homa you perform. For the actual mantra phase your mantras will change as per your requirement. For Vishnu Sahastranam Homa you will have to recite every name of Vishnu from the Sahastranam in this format, ‘Om Vishwaya Swaha” the first name to the last “Om Sarvapraharanayudhaya Swaha”. It can get too tedious for someone new to all this, so best listen to Uma Mohan or your favourite singer reciting it!
Option 2 – The Gayatri mantra. (Post here) It is the source of all knowledge, which includes the knowledge on healing your own body/self/emotions/etc. Ideally everyone should recite it 108 times everyday (ideally 3 sets a day at the sunrise, midday, sunset – Sandhya).
Gayatrai Homa is very easy and very beneficial. The preparatory and concluding phases of the Homa will remain the same as I have written in my earlier post, the actual Mantra phase will have this mantra, “Om bhur bhuvah swah, Om tat savitur varenyam, bhargo devasya dhimahi, dheeyo yonah prachodayat Om swaha”. At swaha you will put a drop of ghee in the fire. This will be done 108 times. Then you will conclude the homa in same way as I have written in my previous post linked above.
Option 3 – The Mahamryutyunjai mantra – “Om tryambakam yajamahe sungandhim pushti vardhanam uruvarukamiva bandhanat mryutur mukshiya maam amrutat Om”. This will also work for all medical problems. It is very powerful. The homa for this mantra uses this version. I have done this homa also innumerable times, it energies are so utterly beautiful.
The preparatory and concluding phases of all homa will remain the same, the actual mantra which will be recited 108 times will be this variation. At ‘swaha’, you will drop a drop of ghee into the fire.
(Or if you feel this variant to be quite complicated you can use this simple version too “Om tryambakam yajamahe sungandhim pushti vardhanam uruvarukamiva bandhanat mryutur mukshiya maam amrutat Om Swaha” for the mantra phase)
Option 4 – Using the Mantras from the Devi mahatmya/Durga Saptashati. (detailed post here). The link to the pdf of the book published by Gita Press is linked here. The step wise method quite simple and like this. This always works.
Then recite the navavarna mantra, (Om Aing Hreeng Kleeng Chamundayae Vicche) once thrice or 108 times.
Then recite your chosen Mantra, once, thrice or 108 times. There is a ready list of 30 useful mantras on page 263 of the pdf version of the Gita press book linked above. Choose what you want to do from the list of mantras.
Then the Navavarna mantra once to make your chosen mantra ‘samputit’.
For doing the homa of this mantra, follow this procedure,
again the preparatory phase remain the same.
Then, you will recite the mantras as per the points, 1, 2 as given above.
Then at point 3. when you recite your chosen mantra you will end it with ‘swaha’ and drop ghee into the fire. This you will repeat 108 times.
Then the rest is continuing with point 4.
Followed by the concluding phase of the homa.
Option 5 – If you have analysed your horoscope for medical problems/tendencies, you can take preventive care by fortifying the planet concerned. You can use beej mantra for homa for planets. If you do not wish to do the fire homa, then even reciting the beej mantra will be equally beneficial.
E.g. you know your Sun is having issues so you might get eyesight issues, so you can recite his beej mantra, ‘Om hrang hring hroung sah suryaya namah’, once thrice or 108 times every Sunday.
In pregnancy there is a different time schedule for mantra recitation that is followed, written about it here.
So here are the very basic options for using mantras to keep yourself healthy and as a preventive action. Or to help accelerate recovery. I have kept it very simple so that everyone can use them. Sometimes the most simple things are the most powerful, so its with these mantras. Use them with your complete intention and focus. Intend the change you desire visualise it and use your mantra like a tool to get your work done!
(There was a question in the contact form, on using mantras for healing and recovery.
You can do anything with mantras, it depends on your intention and force of will. There are other rituals and stuff which are used to literally work miracles but we do not have that level of ingredients and neither that level of spiritually pure pandits now who can perform those rituals. Like we need pure desi cows milk/ghee/curds and cowdung, it has become impossible these days, or pure desi honey which does not exist now. So as we do not have the supporting framework, we need to intensify our intention and the energy of the mind. If you do some regular spiritual practice, you will fall ill lesser and also mantras/charged water made by you for your family members will be more potent.
