Mahakumbh 2025 A personal experience

This time, in this Mahakumbh 2025, I was able to go to Prayagraj, Shri Kshetra Triveni Sangam on Paush Purnima and Makar Sankranti in the Mahapunya kaal. (Read about my second Snan on the Mauni Amavasya at Sangam Ghat link here)

Prayagraj administration has clearly made efforts. The ghats have been maintained, clean and police are around everywhere. The only thing is that with traffic diversions it takes a bit longer to reach anywhere, ghat or airport. But this is acceptable and the administration has managed to keep everything organised. The Ghats where the Akhadas were to do their formal Peshwai and Shahi Snan were as expected impossibly crowded.

On both the days we hired boats from the Arail ghat to the Triveni Sangam point. It took about 1hr to 1.5hrs for the entire boat journey – to the sangam point, snan and back to the ghat. And the boatmen were all very helpful. The normal charge was Rs 1500/- for the round trip but we felt so happy with the entire experience that we gave them an amount which we thought they very much deserved.

And there was always the option of doing the Snan at the riverbank itself. Especially larger families with small children were choosing this quicker and safer option. In any case, the energy is the same, whether you take a boat and go in, or do the snan at the riverbank. The entire area is the power of the Triveni Sangam.

Surprisingly at the Sangam point, which is in the middle of the river, the depth is only 2-3 feet, waist height! The Yamuna river is upto 100+ feet at some points, the Ganga river is upto 50+ feet at some points. And at the Sangam point has such shallow waters. We did the Snan here on both days. Gave Arghya to Bhagwan Surya, and to the other deities – Bhagwan Ganapati, the Vedpurush, Mata Shri Jagadambika, the three Devi-s Ganga Yamuna Saraswati, to my Shri Gurudev. Recited the Shri Sukta and some more mantras. The other people were offering mantra infused flowers, coconuts, Akshata, kumkum, turmeric, saffron etc to the three Devi-s Ganga Yamuna Saraswati – now merged into One here.

If you are a follower of Sanatan Dharma and are capable of travelling, do go to Prayagraj and have an auspicious bath/Snan at the Triveni Sangam during this Mahakumbh 2025. There were also several foreign nationals doing the Snan. It is appreciable that these followers of Sanatan Dharma have travelled so far for this Snan. This energy recharge will help you for your several future lives, not just this one life.

Shahi Snan days, when the Akhadas take their ritualistic Snan will be crowded as expected, but on the other days, things will be manageable. So choose a date suitable for you. And there will be crowds on the more hyped up Ghats. So choose the Ghats where there is lesser hype. The Mahakumbh area is very very huge, kilometres long Ghats along the rivers, Ganga and Yamuna. And the Triveni sangam point in the river is also very large. And things are well managed. So do go. If the entire family cannot manage to go, then at least one person from each and every Hindu family must go to this extraordinary Utsav of Sanatan Dharma. This will help power you, your family and ultimately also your nation.

(Pic of people doing Snan in the Triveni Sangam in the middle of the rivers.)

The icy cold water of the rivers and then absorbing the Mahakumbh energy is an incredible energy reset. The first time you stand in the water is an icy shock at the physical level, even more so with the 3 dips. And then there is a gradual warming up as the energy resets within. So then you can stand and do your pujas/ mantra/ Arghya etc while standing in the water.

It is only on these Teertha yatras that you see the power of Sanatan Dharma. This is the real power of Shraddha and Vishwas which can channelise the Eternal Consciousness within you. Go to Triveni and see how the common Indian people are the proud followers of Sanatan Dharma. These are our people. We are the collective power of Dharma. The Mahakumbh is the immense power of the Collective Human Mind guided by the Atmajnyani Gurus who are present there. And in the presence of the Eternal Devi of the Triveni Sangam.

These are the ‘simple’ ‘common’ people of the nation. They do not know anything about Ida, Pingala or Sushumna or the Kundalini or the Ajnya chakra. In fact if you tell them that the sleeping Kundalini is in the shape of the snake, they might say, if she is a snake then it is better to let her sleep! But they come, they stand in the icy water and recharge their Ajnya chakras. Just by following what their parents and grandparents did, they are on the fast track to pure power.

I saw one extended family – from the great grandmother to the tiny babies, about 25-30 people together. The great grandmother would have been 100+yrs old, only bones, so thin and small. And one of her grandsons wrapped her in a shawl and carefully picked her up in her arms, walking for more than 1km holding her, so much love, respect and dedication! Another family with tiny babies to grandparents, settling down in blankets on the sands for the night at 10deg C, all ready to do the snan at early morning at the Brahma muhurt. A family with a wheelchair bound differently abled person, they loaded him with his wheelchair on the boat and took him to do the snan at the Triveni point in the river. A family with a blind son, the parents took him carefully into the Triveni point and he took snan. This is pure inspiration. This is Dharma. Doing what is necessary with the minimum fuss.

If you hear someone say that he/she is willing to do ‘anything’ for Dharma, ask them if they have gone to Mahakumbh? Took their spouse, their children, their parents and grandparents? Or were scared of the crowds, the cold and the ‘inconvenience’ and opted out? Dharma does not need you to do extraordinary things, Dharma is when you just do these regular things systematically as a routine.

And why do we, Crores of us, take so much effort to reach this place? Aged, elderly, infants, differently abled, young and old, why do we all go there to this one point of Time/Space to jump into icy cold water? Who tells us? Why do we make this effort?

The reason that the Devi Herself calls us, we are Her children. She is our Mother. It is Her Voice that we listen to in our hearts, in our minds, in our blood and so we go to Her. In all ways and always only to Her.

So do listen to Her, do go to Her at Triveni. Do Her pujas, take Her blessings.

      Hi there
you will have to consult a practising astrologer/ Brahmin to check your charts and fr specific remedies.

i do not do personal readings anymore.

you can do the Shri Sukta, this should give some positive energy to your Venus.

I am sincerely very happy for you that you were able to participate in this celebration of Dharma. Thank you for the words which give a little taste of it. Rasa is really part of the experience/anubhava and your words about simple people, common people, are very touching. Such experiences surely help to churn the mind along with the heart into the inner sea of milk from which Amrita can emerge, don’t you think? Best.

On 2nd Feb, Vasant Panchami starts at 9:14 AM, well past sunrise. Will doing snan during the day be suitable or should one wait for sunrise on 3rd Feb (the official shahi snan date)? If on 3rd Feb, Shashthi has started by the time one enters the water is it still Shahi snan?
Can one carry back a bottle of the water for their family?

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
you can do it on both days. it will give the same auspiciousness .

you can carry a bottle of water back.

        Thank you Tejaswiniji.

        A few more questions:
        1. Can you give the mantras for the three Devis Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and for the Vedpurush?
        2. I would like to recite both the Shri Suktam and the Aditya Hrudayam but the latter is a bit long. How long do the boats wait for the passengers to complete snan?
        3. On Vasant Panchami (3rd Feb), is it better to do snan at Brahma muhurt or after Sunrise?
        4. If in D1, Saturn and Rahu are in the same sign (less than 5deg difference) but in different houses, is it to be considered a weak Shapit dosh?
        5. In case it is, is it advisable for a man whose father and older uncles are all present (but who are not into what they consider religious activities) to offer arghya to the ancestors at Kumbh? What should be the mantra in this case?

      2. Tejaswini Avatar

        Hi there
        you can simply recite
        “Om Shri — devvyaii namah”
        “Om Shri Vedpurushayaha namah”

they can wait for as long as do your pujas. at max they will ask for 500/- or so more.

        both are fine.

        yes.
planets 15deg or closer influence each other.

        yes, you can.
if you do not know any karmakaand as per your Gotra then
“Om Shri sarva-Pitru-devata-bhyo namah” is also enough.

I have to do the sankalpa to go in 2037. I guess I have to wait for the Devi’s call.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences and inspiring us to go. Really trying my best to go this year, even though I am in India only for the last 3 days of Mahakumbh, and it’s eventually God’s grace to make it happen for us.
I did have a very practical and basic question about accommodation, would you be able to share how and where you booked your accommodations, and any practical tips about it? I have been looking at websites online, but hope you can share your own experiences/ tips too about stay. Sorry for such asking such practical question on this rarefied blog. I am really hoping we can go this year itself, for my parents, because next time around, they will not be able to physically travel. Thank you and God bless you and your family.

      Hi there
there are several hotels which you can book. all are overcharging at this point of time, but if you choose a non Shahi snan date you should get a booking easily.

we were advised to avoid the Ghats on the Ganga river as going there means going through the city. and these ghats are close to the ‘tent city’ so are more crowded.
‘tent city’ was not really convenient for us as it is 4-8 km from the sangam point.

we were advised to go via Arail ghat. it is on the yamuna side, so lesser crowd. we had to walk for about 2km from the bridge to the ghat. but the roads and all are very good.
we got a very basic hotel room on the arail road. it was very convenient for Snan.
and food stalls are all over so that is not an issue.

they do not allow vehicles near the ghats. depending on the ghat you choose you might need to walk for a few km. the police said tht e-rickshaws would possibly be allowed on non Shahi snan days, depending on the crowd. if too crowded then they will not allow.

it is cold at night 10deg or lesser. during the day it is mostly foggy. so warm clothes are needed.
as you are travelling with your elderly parents i suggest you carry a single electric bedsheet. or at least a hot water bottle for them, so that they can at least be warm at night.

Thank you so much for this detailed reply, this is very helpful.

I will look up along the routes you mention. I also appreciate your tips on the electric blanket and hot water bottle, I did not think of that.

Once again, thank you and my deepest regards to you. Namaste.

Are all days of the Maha Kumbh equally Auspicous or are the Amrit snan days more auspicious?

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
      they are all equally auspicious.
but the fact that mauni amavasya or vasant panchami is in itself powerful adds to it.

Madam, my question to you is , I am a female and keep long locks and do consider there is energy stored in our hair and resonated with your article on why people cut hair after loved one is gone- basically to cut the sorry ties and move ahead.

I also feel the need to cut my hair some bit here and there for upkeep and in a way to do away with some negative loops I am going through for getting into positive orbit.

Can I cut my hair and then do kumbh snan or after the dip when I return to my place ,I cut .
I am confused ifbyou can suggest
( I am 5th house ( leo house)shani Chandra rahu so u may understand the confusions I go through)

    Pls support and enlighten 🙏🙏

      Hi there
      choice is yours.

in my opinion, cut before having the snan.

Namaste mam, can you guide me please, if i go by boat from Arail ghat to triveni sangam, and take the sangam snan dip, is there a place nearby to change to dry cloths. Did you carry bag of dry cloths and will the boat rider help in looking at the luggage if I had to take a dip?

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
there are cabins on the sangam point. i think they are on tethered boats but the crowd is immense.
so you have to change on the boat itself.
take a large shawl to wrap around yourself while you change inside it.

Mam, can you please suggest any points to follow for a lone traveller/yatri.

      2. Tejaswini Avatar

        Hi there
if you want to go in a boat inside the river then they take 8 people in a boat.
or if you engage a boat solo then it is rs 1500/ – official rates.

the easiest option is if you do the snan on the river bank,
then everything is available, cabin to change etc as per your convenience.
there is no energy difference in water at the river bank and the water in the midstream point. both are the same. the entire area is literally pulsing with power.
so you can opt for the riverbank snan ghat also

travel light and if you have a trolley bag use it. you will have to walk for 2-3 km.

people/boatmen/ rickshaw drivers etc are all cooperative.
and the police are everywhere and very helpful.

the yamuna side ghats are less crowded as the processions etc are on the ganga side ghats.
if your purpose is to do snan then go to the Yamuna ghats.
if you also want to see the processions and do darshans in temples then go to ganga ghat.

        Hi there
you are welcome . so many people read my blog, watch the videos, are followers of Sanatan Dharma.
but very few respond/ write that they are actually doing some of the practices/ activities given by Dharma.

we are hindus/ followers of Sanatan Dharma, we are Astik.
‘western’ / ‘westernised’ minds can never understand Dharma, as they are followers of fundamentally Nastik sampradaya. i personally think that it is impossible for them, unless they have some really high level of punya karma which gets triggered ..

but i really wish more followers of Sanatan Dharma actually proudly and openly follow Dharma .

try to encourage your other family members, your neighbours, your office mates, the others around you to also go for teerthyatras..

Sanatan Dharma is at the same time very simple and yet very complex. and going to Devalaya and teerth helps us understand this subtle concept.

Hi. Been reading your blog for the past 3 years now.
My question is , I am not able to go on the shahi snan days…I’m going on 8th Feb and taking a bath on 9th Feb….I know this might be a silly question, but I have to ask….will the snan on a normal day not be fruitful?

    1. Tejaswini Avatar

      Hi there
Go on a day when the crowds are expected to be lesser.
All days during this time are equally auspicious

    Namaste Mam,

I cannot thank you enough for this post. Your post alone inspired me to travel to Mahakumbh with my parents. My father wanted to visit, both he and me had unexpressed but obvious apprehensiveness about the crowd and cold. But after your post there was no stopping, I booked tickets the very next day and we travelled, stayed for a little over 3 full days and had multiple baths and we arrived back home before the sunrise of the Amavasya had set in.

    Thank you for everything!
