Money, wealth and prosperity

The Devi of wealth is Devi Laxmi the wife of Shri Vishnu. These two are the kinetic and potential energies of the Satva gun. All wealth in this universe is granted by Her and is linked to Her. And what is wealth? Physical wealth, emotional wealth and spiritual wealth together is wealth.

The horoscope generated with the ascendant degree as the 1st house will give you an indication of physical wealth. Similarly emotional wealth should be seen from the chart generated by considering the birth Moon as the 1st house. And for spiritual wealth, consider the birth Sun sign as the 1st house. I have written a few posts on wealth earlier. I would consider someone wealthy if he lives a reasonably good life, ie has enough money to live well without excessively exerting himself, and is emotionally and spiritually elevated.

psychologicallyastrology. com

Wealth is a very tricky thing. Devi Laxmi is also called Chanchala चञ्चला and Chapala चपला. These words indicate the inconsistent and tricky nature of ‘wealth’. Nimble, moveable, flickering, unsteady, lightning, wind, quick, changeable etc. You might see some houses where physical wealth remains for a generation and then suddenly disappears. One person earns money but his family cannot use it. The children do not inherit the properties, they gets stolen or lost. Or just one person in the family enjoys a fabulous lifestyle but his wife/ children remain in poverty. The person creates assets but his children indulge in bad behaviour and the lineage dies out. Someone works hard throughout his lifetime yet remains poor. Someone gets lucky in a lottery ticket and gets rich overnight. It all seems to be quite random.

Essentially you get wealth, not by your professional success but by the power of Devi Laxmi who creates Nidhi. Nidhi means accumulation of wealth. And remember wealth is all three, physical, emotional and spiritual. Nidhi can be Satvik, Rajasik or Tamasik, depending on the source from where you get it. Nidhi includes money, lands, emotional feelings, mantra, pujas etc anything that you ‘accumulate’, ‘hoard’. One should strive for a purely Satvik Nidhi which remains in the family for several generations and also gives emotional happiness with spiritual progress. Only purely Satvik Nidhi is auspicious, the other types of Nidhi ultimately give pain.

Satvik Nidhi means that there is stable income which increases as per requirement, eg a new child born in your family and suddenly you get a promotion which takes care of the additional expenses. All family members, wife/ husband, children, siblings, grandparents, etc enjoy this wealth together. Everyone is happy, healthy, satisfied, the children study well, there is peace in the family, satisfaction overall. A portion of this Nidhi is also given to temples or used in public service eg building water tanks etc. Most importantly, the family members grow spiritually, there is emotional stability and physical security. This Nidhi comes only as a result of spiritual activity, Dhyan and it comes automatically as soon as you start your sadhana. I have mentioned in an earlier post that Shri Sukta is the source of all prosperity. If any of you are doing its puja, by now you must have noticed its results, as prosperity follows the Shri Sukta.

Every Nidhi has a yaksha associated with it, these are demi-gods, beings who live in other dimensions and their bodies have a different composition of the pancha mahabhoot. Depending on the type of Nidhi accumulated in your household, you will also have its associated Yaksha residing with you. All the gold in this world belongs to Yaksh-raaj Kuber, he ‘loans’ it to you and me. And if someone has a significant amount of gold, you can always sense the energy of its accompanying Yaksha in his house. Also conversely if you can sense the Yaksha you can also determine the quality of the Nidhi in the house, ie if it is purely Satvik, Rajasik, Tamasik or mixed.

psychologicallyastrology. com

So how do you know what Nidhi is residing in your house? Analyse the events occurring in your family. The kind of children being born in your family. The ‘atmosphere’ in your family. The health status of your family members, the interactions, the emotional connect. Can you do your pujas easily or not? Also check the things you spend money on. If you spend money on the reasonable needs of living your life and on pujas, temples, pilgrimages etc then your wealth is Satvik. But if you spend your money on unnecessary items, addictions, meat, alcohol, gambling, bar dancers, drugs etc, then obviously it is a mixture of the Rajasik and Tamasik kinds.

The source of your money is important. Sometimes you get money from inauspicious sources. Some of you might find this a bit difficult to believe but if the organization you are working in engages in illegal or immoral activities or if your top boss is an Adharmic person then the salary you get is not Satvik. It will eventually cause problems with no solutions in sight. And you will see such examples around you. eg If someone earns enough money yet his life is in a mess then his money will 100% be from an Adharmic source. The solution here would be to reject this source and find a Dharmik/ Satvik one. Most of us do not even think much on these lines nor can we reject the money we get. If the source of wealth is Adharmic, there will never be real peace of mind or happiness and the person will not be able to perform Satvik activities like pujas, go for pilgrimages etc.

Rajasik and Tamsik Nidhi is in full swing in these modern times.

Try this small experiment if you wish. During this coming Ashwin Nav-ratri, do this small vrat/ a small scheduled spiritual practice. Intend that you will recite the Shri-Sukta twice a day, after the morning bath and at sunset. And not consume tamasik food items. See if can do this simple thing for just 10 days. Note what thoughts come in your mind after 2-3 days of this. Do you feel happy about your vrat? Do you look forward to every recitation with happiness? Or do you feel this to be an impossible thing to continue for 10days? What effect does this simple vrat have on your mind? This will give an indication to the type of Nidhi residing in your house.

Some people claim to do pujas which give instant wealth. And there are pujas where if you please the Yaksha-s they will grant you wealth. But this physical wealth will eventually run out and also give emotional/ spiritual torment. Some pujas bring in wealth of the Rajasic kind. A definite way of identifying Nidhi is that Rajasik Nidhi will increase the ego of the person who holds it. People suddenly puff up with self-importance, wear flashy stuff, buy expensive items as a result of the Rajas dominating over them. And there are ways which will bring in Tamasik Nidhi, here the person’s intellect, ie his ability to differentiate between Dharma/ Adharma is affected. You will find such people indulging in base desires, behaving in morally abhorrent ways and there will be a sense of ‘dullness’ around them.

Rajasik and Tamasik wealth eventually create a vicious cycle from which escape is rather difficult.

I felt like writing on Nidhi because of this comment I received. “I am glad I discovered your site while browsing in Google for an astrology article. Your site is a source of abundant treasure. I am thrilled to see it all available for free. I feel blessed to be one of the beneficiary of the truth you have brought to light; mikka nandri nandri (Thanks).”

This was the first time someone commented that it was for ‘free’. It surprised me. Nothing is free in life. I write this blog, spend my time and energy on it. I have a very busy schedule, (I have a family, a full-time high paying job and I need time for my personal pujas) yet I write. I write what I have experienced or know to be correct from my perspective. I pay WordPress so that my readers don’t have to see irritating adverts. I have never charged for readings. Jyotish is a Vidya, it is priceless. Putting a charge on a Vidya causes karmic repercussions.

(My Dad is an engineer, a professional, he worked in high positions. From his teens till his late 40-s, he saw several charts daily, never charged anything. He helped people till our Guru ordered him to stop seeing Jyotish. My Mom was a well-known lawyer, worked in a huge corporation as its Legal Adviser. Yet she gave advice to poor people every day of her life and never charged anything from them.)

Now you, dear reader, who have chanced on my blog, reading the 10 lakh+ words I have written, do you think you are here by chance? You are here because it was your karma to read it as it was mine to write it. It is my experience over several life-times. And you are spending your time and energy reading it, absorbing it. Why? This blog is a purely Satvik Nidhi, essentially my Sat-Guru’s blessings. It is not for free. If you are here, you are here for a reason. What could this reason be? ask yourself.

The sure-shot solution for prosperity

I am getting several messages for readings. I have finished my karmic quota so will not do them anymore. If I were still doing readings, I wouldn’t have started writing this blog! I simply wouldn’t have the time to write. But if there is something which can help understand your horoscope better, I will write on it, in the spirit of explaining the thing.

But for those who have genuine problems the one perfect remedy for all your problems is Shri-Sukta. It is from the Rg- Ved. We think we are unique, but we are all the same, we all have very limited types of problems, health, wealth, relationships, litigations, profession, children, education. All these can be covered easily by this one all-round remedy. You have to do this yourself with the intention and the genuine desire to come out of the problem. Self-pity and expecting that someone else will pull you out of your problem never works. But luckily for us our ancient Rishis have given us so many tools from Jyotish to the Sukta.

This is the link to the perfect text of the Shri-Sukta, the verses/ shlok from 1 to 15 are the Shri Sukta. Verse 16 is the phala-shruti, ie it tells you what you will get if you recite this Sukta. (The remaining verses are Laxmi Sukta, that is a different sukta.) For those who can read and pronounce Sanskrit words, recite it. Will take 2 mins of your time. But most of us cannot read our own mother tongue, the Devbhasha Samskrutam, so here is the Shri sukta recited perfectly by the singer Uma Mohan. (Do buy this same track, here the pronunciation is perfect, there are no mistakes). She follows the Shri Sukta with the Mahalaxmi Gayatri. Very beautiful. You can listen to this if you cannot read. Will take 4 mins of your time.

When to recite or listen to it? Twice a day is ideal, once after you have your bath in the morning and once at evening twilight. If you feel like it you can listen to it on a loop throughout the day, it is an energy boost. Some of my businessmen clients play it on a loop in their shops as it is in itself Prosperity, Shri श्री.

Here you are invoking the power of the highest form of Prosperity श्री to come to you in every way possible. You are requesting Shri to enter your body, mind and soul. It is a very intense and deep intention and always works for your benefit. Highly auspicious in every way possible. ‘Shri’ means the goddess of wealth, Devi Laxmi, the active energy of the Satva-Gun, wealth, beauty, radiance, splendour, welfare, power, grace, shine, success, fortune, process, symbol, might, dignity, etc. All the meanings are extremely positive on all levels.

Shri- Sukta will work for all your problems, try it for 21days with full intention and see for yourself.

To activate the Navavarna mantra

Next, if you have typical problems, ie if you know what your exact problem is and what you want. Then you can recite one verse from the Ashta-Laxmi stotra to add specific direction to your Shri-sukta rendition. There are 8 verses in the Ashta-Laxmi stotra, one for each of the following aspects of Devi Laxmi. The Shri-Sukta works well on its own and quite powerfully too, this one verse would be an additional thing if you want to do it. Or you can listen to the entire Stotra. Here is a recitation by the singer Gayatri, do buy it if you like it. She has sung it beautifully, you can listen to the entire stotra on the way to your office if you feel like it, rather than movie songs which have no energy.

  • 1st verse is for Aadi Laxmi – for spiritual progress and moksh
  • 2nd verse is for Dhanya Laxmi – for health, removal of poverty, for getting house/properties, medical emergencies
  • 3rd verse is for Dhairya Laxmi – for courage for facing a particular situation, intelligence, calmness eg before an interview, that flash of inspiration when you are stuck in work, issues in profession,
  • 4th verse is for Gaja Laxmi – this gives sheer power, physical/ emotional/ mental
  • 5th verse is for Santaan Laxmi – for children, for help during conception, pregnancy, delivery and for anything to do with children
  • 6th verse is for Vijay Laxmi – all round successes, eg during litigations, court cases, disputes
  • 7th verse is for Vidya Laxmi – for successes in exams or in learning technical subjects, when you start learning a new topic, to make what you learn work for you
  • 8th verse is for Dhan Laxmi – for money and material assets, prosperity in marriage

This will work for everyone irrespective of anything. The Sukta and the Stotra are both in Sanskrit so have inherent power, they are essentially mantra. These will not cause harm in any way to anyone. But they will not give you what is not yours, ie cannot be used to cheat others or to steal what is rightfully other’s stuff. Do it only if you are convinced of your right and positive intention.

If you want to, in addition, you can keep a small silver moorti of Devi Laxmi in your puja. Or an image. Or if you are more into geometry, an image of the Shri Chakra. At least keep such images as your phone’s wallpaper, rather than something random. It is perfect prosperity. This will help channelise the energies faster into your own self into your own life, rebalancing it.

Analysis, Rahu in 5th, Ketu in 11th house

Rahu and Ketu in the 5th/11th axis produce extraordinary individuals as these two houses are connected to the sense of self and the interactions that one has with the infinite others. I wrote about the personality described by Ketu in the 5th and Rahu in the 11th earlier. Rahu/Ketu in the 5th and 11th houses requires that the personality balance between the individual self-ego and the grouped resources/consciousness. There is a huge chunk of energy available in this axis which can be used by you positively or negatively depending on the other placements of the horoscope.

As we are dealing with Rahu/ Ketu, the influences of the planets conjoint or aspecting them, the signs in which they are placed, the power of these sign’s lords etc become very important and require careful analysis. Rahu is just karmic attraction, these others are the direction of the karmic attraction. Similarly Ketu is basically karmic apathy, these others give direction to the detachment. If you want to go into real details, analyse the character of the Lunar mansions/ Nakshatra in which Rahu/Ketu are placed in. And also check if any other planets are placed in the Nakshatra owned by Rahu/Ketu. This will add significant nuances to the reading.

Analysis, Rahu in 5th, Ketu in 11th house

Rahu in the 5th house

This 5th house is very sensitive as it defines your intelligence. There is infinite mental energy available here. How much energy you have with you. Your connect with your internal divinity. Rahu in the 5th means that the 5th house affairs are always in focus.

Creativity is unlimited, this can manifest as a large number of children, or a large number of students. Your children /students will be a bit odd, either very intelligent and very practical or linked to the occult. You can be a very good artist, especially a photographer or an actor where you explore the range of human experiences. A photographer who takes pictures of people or an actor who acts out different personalities are experiencing human nature. (The other combination, ie Rahu in 11th will also produce photographers but these people will prefer taking photos of nature, never people!)

You can write and publish books, you might blog. Expressions are your forte. Every human expression is familiar to you. You can be a good astrologer or someone who uses energy directly but connected in some way to the human experience. You love yourself, you are very aware of your personality, self-love comes easy and you are always confident and sure of yourself in every possible situation.

Education is erratic, there may be breaks in the normal classic style of school/college. But you will never be at a disadvantage here. You will end up with sufficient education to remain ahead in life. If you have a choice in this matter choose a vocation a business a hands-on-professional course in life so that the Rahu energy is more channelised into technical type of stuff. You have an aptitude for this. You can be a scientist, an eccentric inventors, a genius. You have an extraordinary intellect. You can make that leap from a common innovation to a true invention.

The karmic influences of the past lives are very active and you can access these memories very easily. Highly intuitive, you can re-live these without much effort. These are your assets so if you get flashes of events or feelings do not get scared, use the information you receive from them.

You are not really religious. Even if you do take up singing bhajans and indulge in outward show of religion this will be a temporary phase, as you are not really into religion or dogma. You will not follow a book. (Religions have a main book which they are required to follow. Hinduism/ Sanatan Dharm is not a religion, there is no main book. We follow our Conscience). You will want to find out for yourself, you will experiment with several faith systems till you find one which suits your nature.

You have that rare intellectual appreciation in matters of faith, spirituality, religion and related stuff. When Rahu is in the 5th house and Ketu in the 11th you are attracted to the experience of the deepest self and detached from the extended others. The flow of experience is inward towards the individual self. Rahu, in the Samudra Manthan story-allegory, tried to imitate the Light. There is a desire to become the Light. This can be a highly spiritual placement as you dive inwards into yourself, searching, experiencing your own intelligence till you realise your Real Self. Just remember that the law of Karma operates always. Always follow your Conscience. You are highly intuitive and have access to energies which others normally do not. Rahu/Ketu are karma personified. If you try to cheat yourself / others or cause harm to others using your occult abilities, it will rebound on you very badly. This moral and spiritual wrong will manifest as illness of the body/mind.

If this Rahu is under the influence of malefics or debilitated, especially Sun or Mars it gives a very forceful personality, the person will behave as a mini-tyrant in the house/office. If Mercury with malefic influences or bereft of auspicious aspects sits with such a Rahu it will create a crook, a swindler, someone who does financial crimes.

Ketu in the 11th house

Important tip : Do not let your friends and group members take advantage of you. (Read this line twice)

Gains of every sort, friends and like-minded groups are the domain of the 11th house. The natural lord of his house is Saturn as he rules the 11th sign Aquarius. True gains or friendships are a product of karma, effort, discipline and hard work. Ketu here is apathy, a product of your karma. You do not feel the need to work to keep your friends. You get along with everyone. Your ‘friends’ are more a product of circumstance, they come and vanish. You are unable to ‘connect’ on the material levels, so partying, going to movies, school/college/office friends are simply not possible. Very rarely will you find someone who will stick with you in the real sense. If there is some esoteric occult or spiritual connect then only your friendships will survive.

Your gains too will be significant but you are unable to retain them. You are unable to retain them. One tip is to never gamble with this combination. Find some professional financial adviser to help you manage your assets as you earn them. Bad advise from older brothers or friends can land you in trouble. There are possibilities of missed opportunities and undesirable people nagging you. You will be known in society as a powerful person, but very private. The 11th house is an upchaya house and Ketu is a natural malefic so results will improve with time. This horoscope will go on giving more and more auspicious results as you grow older.

An underlying sense of grief exists as you are detached from all fruits of your personality. Be aware of this else this will manifest in the body as a skin or nervous disease.

Ketu is highly intuitive, no analysis, so the things connected with the 11th house will be sensed, not analysed. You might get a streak of luck or be connected to the occult. A highly individual way of thinking often against the commonly accepted dogma. If such a Ketu is under auspicious influences, you will be involved in helping others, a humanitarian sort of nature. You can be an astrologer work with other divination systems, be a counsellor. But do not give away more of your assets /energy than what is appropriate. But if this Ketu is under malefics, there are very few friends, person does not socialise, does not even leave the house and the personality becomes very self-centered. There are often problems with elder siblings with this placement.

A conscious balance between the 5th and the 11th house energies is essential. If you think the natural 5th house is fiery Leo and the natural 11th house is the airy Aquarius. The nature of Rahu is fire and Ketu is airy. Double dose of these elements can create an explosive personality. Conscious management of the Rahu-Ketu energies is essential here, else their potential will not be manifested. Rahu-Ketu placements are the challenge of your life-time. This is a hard challenge but if overcome gives the highest possible gain.

The first half of the life is very active while the second half of life goes in relative quiet. It does not mean that you go into obscurity, it rather means that you are satisfied.

Ketu Mahdasha and Rahu Mahadasha as per the Vimshottari system, will be very active, you will actively use their gifts. Especially Rahu-Ketu, the Rahu-Rahu and Ketu-Rahu antardasha/ sub-peroids will be quite karmically heavy-duty. Be very very careful during the Ketu-Ketu subperiod, this brief period of a few months duration will hit very hard. Their sub-periods in the other planet’s Mahadasha-s also will bring in lots of movement.

Their transits are quite slow with 1.5yrs in each sign, (right now they are in Capricorn /Cancer) so keep a look out here too. Periods heavy with Rahu/ Ketu energy will grant profits and gains but after their periods are complete these gains too may erode.

If you can do regular Dhyan the spiritual aspect of this combination will find its channel. This will allow the material benefits to manifest properly and you will be able to retain these too. Doing mantra -jaap of Rahu and Ketu on Tuesdays/Saturdays and especially during eclipses is very useful to regulate their energies.

Rahu in the 5th (or 11th), is a dream come true placement. If you navigate the energies with a clear intention and a crystal-clear conscience you will attain the heights of the material as well as the spiritual. Obviously Ketu will support in his own indifferent way but he will support. Rahu-Ketu are together fire-air, Rahu provides the experience for Ketu to transform you. The 5th-11th is also fire-air, unlimited scope for movement and transformation.

This the magic of Rahu-Ketu the 5/11 axis. Experience and Transform.

Venus and Mars placed in the 8th house

Venus placed in the 8th house.

This is a reasonably favourable placement but a bit typical. Venus and Mars get along quite well and he is comfortable in this house. But do check out which sign he is occupying and he is placed here as the ruler of which houses of the chart (i.e.where are Taurus and Libra placed?). This helps in in-depth analysis. Also the strength of the ascendant sign/lord, 8th house lord and Mars.

Venus here is the agent of hoards, relationships and balance in the house of sudden catastrophic identity changes. You can make the most of this combination by consciously initiating changes rather than having them suddenly forced on you.

You will be quite intelligent and well-known in society, but very few people will know the real you. You like discovering secrets, you enjoy this deeply, you are skilled at extracting information. And then you prefer hiding your real self. You will always have secrets and also know how to use them.

You do not follow established religion. You do your own esoteric /spiritual /occult practices and are quite good at these. If you are a woman these tendencies will be more powerful. All professions indicated by the 8th house are possible in this Venus placement, a doctor involved in childbirth or cosmetic surgery, confidential financial work, emergencies, disaster relief, mining and exploration, healers, occultists etc are all possible.

There will always be some irregularities in love affairs and marriage. Relationships may begin and end shockingly? Multiple marriages and secretive relationships are possible. The actual wedding event may be low-profile. The spouse may have occult tendencies or financial abilities which he/she keeps secret. Or the spouse may deliberately keep a socially low profile. If Venus is unable to give good results, the spouse, especially the wife, might suffer with medical problems or have a relatively short life. The spouse and in-laws will be generally charming, fair people. You will be on good terms with them. Spouse’s speech, voice, face and behaviour will be fair and balanced. However all your relationships will have something concealed which can cause problems. You always keep a part of yourself secret in all relationships, and simultaneously your partners will also keep their secrets. Venus in 8th is secretive but not dishonest (unless malefic influences). There will be issues because of this so always try to understand the other before taking a final decision.

Marriage and partnerships will generally give gains. You might marry for money! Legacies and inheritances can come in. However it would be good if you keep a monthly account of earning/spendings to ensure that your financial situation remains comfortable. You keep your financial dealings, money and properties secret. If Venus is afflicted you might engage in shady deals and financial crimes.

Medical problems can be of the blood, kidney, reproductive organs, diabetes, connected to liquids in the body. Death can occur in a highly spiritual place or in a place of pilgrimage. It is generally a long life with an easy death. If the horoscope supports, this Venus can grant Moksh or at least significant spiritual growth.

Venus and Mars placed in the 8th house

Mars placed in the 8th house.

Mars is the natural ruler of the 8th sign of the zodiac, Scorpio and always exerts his subtle influence on the matters of the 8th in every chart. The agent of life and death, placed in the house of death is not easy and requires careful analysis. A lot will depend on which sign occupies the 8th and Mars as the ruler of which houses is placed here (where is Aries and Scorpio placed). It is a challenging placement but can give good results.

Energy will be high and you perform well in emergency situations. You thrive on high energies. You need the buzz! If you do not get it from your environment, you will then create such energies yourself. But if you are placed in a tense situation you absorb it into yourself and can actually act a calming agent! So go out, engage in physical activity, learn contact sports, drive, feel your blood pounding, channelise your energies in such activities so that you do not explode! This placement labels you as a Manglik‘, so finding a life partner (Indian arranged marriage) can be difficult.

The moral compass may be weak, e.g. might resort to bribery, cheating or manipulate finances to increase wealth. You can gain wealth in from others and from insurance and other such financial schemes. You might be perceived as being untrustworthy and your friends, relatives and brothers can suddenly behave in a untrustworthy manner themselves. Will know several secrets about several things which may be legal/illegal. May be required to take decisions or act on such matters. (However if a debilitated Mars occupies the 8th, he turns into a manipulator and causes problems for himself and others.)

Personal health will be fiery, temper will be high and risk taking behaviour will be the norm. The movement of pran in the body’s energy channels /naadi is highly fluctuating and of high intensity. The body is susceptible to ‘heat’ diseases and diseases of the reproductive organs and blood circulation. If a woman, should take special care during pregnancy and childbirth. Surgeries can happen several times in life. Children will be lesser in number. Longevity is generally on the shorter side, but for this the strength of Mars, 8th house lord, ascendent sign and its lord will have to be evaluated together. Death will be linked to liquids in some way e.g blood disease, kidney/urinary problems, drowning etc or in ‘sharp’ incidents, accidents. However has abilities for energy-healing.

Is passionate, can have affairs before marriage and secretly after marriage. Spouse’s behaviour, speech, wealth, voice and face and his/her family are indicated by the 8th. Wealth tends to increase after marriage and you believe in financial security. If this Mars is well placed then it can be ok, but if you get such a chart for marriage matching do double-check. A badly placed Mars here (aspected by or with more malefics or debilitated, worst would be a Rahu -Mars combination here) can indicate a bad situation for the spouse in every way including physical health/ longevity. A sense of joy/companionship with the spouse will be absent. You tend to dominate your spouse, in-laws and family members.

A Mars in 8th will aspect the 11th, 2nd and 3rd houses. So gains and finances will be good as long as you take personal initiative and interest in them. There might be friction with the family/brothers. This placement is a tough one but if you can channelise your energy appropriately it can be managed well.

Venus and Mars placed in the 8th house

This above was the bare-bones astrological part which you can use for analysing  your horoscopes. But astrology is really Jyotish, the science of Illumination. So here is an esoteric dimension which might interest.

Venus and Mars together are very fascinating forces. Mars is life, death and rebirth, the karmic cycle in which the individual soul moves till he attains Moksh. Mars represents your taking on the body and also your leaving it. The signs Aries and Scorpio are linked in the adversarial 6/8 axis from each other.

Venus is the limit of experience, the limit of Maya. Venus is the natural Marak, he decides when you have completed your karma of accumulating treasures and fulfilled your karma-linked relationships. His two signs, Taurus and Libra are also in the adversarial 6/8 axis from each other. As these two signs are the essence of Maya, the 2nd and 7th houses of your chart also represent Maya. Once you complete your experience of Maya, you attain Moksh, so Venus is the real Moksh-karak.

If you analyse these 4 signs/houses together you will get an inkling of the tremendous forces Mars and Venus represent together. Mars through his natural rulership of the 1st house creates your personality, you are literally born here. You then act/use the energy of the 1st to create the wealth of the 2nd house. If you have acted with a sense of self, the 2nd will be a fruit of your karma (karma-phal), and will be added to your stored karma, i.e. agami/new karma adds to the sanchita/stored karma. If your actions do not have the ‘I’ tag, then this house will represent rebalancing of karma (you do not create more karma and are actively rebalancing the stored hoard).

Now while you are busy creating/rebalancing karma, the energy of your body gets used up. So as the potential of the 2nd house gets realised, the vitality of the physical body diminishes. When you completely realise the potential of the 2nd, you simultaneously completely finish off the vitality of the manifested body thus the physical body dies. Depending on what type of actions you were doing, you will have created more karma or achieved Moksh.

Now in the same way, the 7th and 8th houses also work together. The natural ruler of the 7th is Venus and that of the 8th is Mars. The 7th represents karmic bindings, the other function of Maya. You are required to create and maintain relationships equitably and fairly here. You may call these marriage or business partnerships at the material level, but nevertheless they are bindings on the spiritual level. This 7th house can represent the relationship between you and your body. And the deepest bindings which you have laid on your own soul (the 7 bindings of vice, virtue, weakness, power, passion, dispassion and ignorance). Or finally your relationship with your own Higher Self.

The 8th house represents changes in identity which are caused by complete upheaval. The 8th uses the energy of the 7th to power itself. You get into relationships, experience them, saturate yourself and then transcend. The experience-energy is of the 7th, the House of Change uses this to change you at very fundamental levels. If you have observed yourself carefully through your life, your deepest changes in self-identity are always linked to relationships. Mars as the agent of death/rebirth, uses up Venus’s energy of fairness and balance. And when the potential of the 8th is complete, the deepest relationship of your soul with your present incarnated physical body/environment is also complete and you leave it. Now on the spiritual front if you have experienced each of the 7 bindings to the fullest you transcend them and achieve Moksh.

The 8th house is called a Dushamsthan, a house of turmoil. Every sort of ‘Shock’, is the domain of the 8th house. This post is on how Jupiter and Saturn perform in this house of traumatic catastrophic changes.

Jupiter placed in the 8th house.

Jupiter placed in the 8th house is a good placement. His primary nature is to expand, so he will expand whatever is signified by your 8th house. Jupiter and Mars are quite friendly so Jupiter feels quite comfortable in this natural house of Mars.

The 8th is the house of all sorts of openings so you can expect life to open up for you at several levels. At the most material level, doors will open for you and the windows of opportunity will always available. But this route of growth will be in the shape of the transformative agents of the shocking 8th house. However Jupiter’s inherent benevolent nature allows you to accept this transformative trauma and its growth potential with hope and faith. Identity transformations will be many but gentler. There will be several changes in personality, ever growing, ever expanding.

You will face a lot of upheavals in life linked to the agents of the 8th, but every change will give you an enormously positive outcome which you had neither thought of nor anticipated at that time. There will be several unexpected situations in life. Possibilities of several surgeries remain, however they will all be successful. It would be good if you do routine body check ups after mid-life.

You will have knowledge of the occult and mysterious. Several deep secrets will be known to you, about yourself and about other people too. And you will use them, the secretive ‘king-maker’, your actions will be secret too. You will outwardly seem very ordinary but will wield your secretive influence on matters which will affect several. There will be something magnetic/large! about your personality, depending on which sign/body part is linked here. Large magnetic eyes perhaps?

Jupiter is an enormous graha and he uses the enormous potential of the 8th. He is basically a Teacher, and grants life experience using the energy of this 8th. His teachings go very deep into the astral self. You will practice spiritual activities which involve the movement of pran /kundalini. If the other placements support, this Jupiter can grant Moksh or at least significant spiritual growth.

You might have secret affairs before marriage or there will be some secret irregularities before you settle down with your spouse. The actual marriage event also will be in a relative secret setting. The spouse may be secretive, preferring to not be in the public eyes, or may have secret tantrik/ occult/ financial skills which are not known generally. The spouse and his/her family will be generous and helpful. Wealth will increase post-marriage. You can expect increases in hidden wealth. However the family finances will remain your secret as you do not share these details with your spouse. The marriage is reasonably happy with lesser number of children.

The results will vary as per the sign that is in the 8th. e.g. Jupiter if placed in his own signs, Sagittarius or Pisces or his sign of exaltation which is Cancer, will give even better results. Also do analyse that Jupiter is placed here as the lord of which houses. e.g. where are his signs (Sagittarius /Pisces) placed. These other 2 houses will also be affected by Jupiter occupying the 8th.

Transits of Jupiter are relatively long at about 1year per sign, in this period he goes retrograde for about 4 months. So there is a lot of scope for learning, re-learning and revising his lessons. Keep an eye on his transits.

Then as per the Vimhottari dasha system, Jupiter’s Major period, Mahadasha is quite long, 16 years. Also his sub-periods/Antar-dasha, in other planet’s Mahadashas is also quite lengthy. So keep this factor in mind while analysing his effect on you.

Overall this is a good placement.

Jupiter, Saturn placed in the 8th house

Saturn placed in the 8th house.

There is an understanding that this placement gives a long life, but always evaluate the quality of such a life before concluding that this is a good placement!

Shani is ‘fear’, so unless your Mars, 8th house lord, Ascendant lord and Moon are well placed you will be in perpetual fear of the agents of the 8th house. You resist transformations, change, rebirth, renewal, regeneration and refuse to re-define your self. You resist movement. The environment of the 8th demands transformative changes yet Shani resists them all. His nature is that he must resist. He remains fixed and he endures. Your personality faces changes, this is the function of the 8th house. 8th is continuous evolution. But as Saturn’s nature is to maintain the framework, you cannot evolve freely under his influence.

So look back at your life and try to analyse. Change is essential! But have you failed to change and thus lost valuable opportunities? After this self-introspection, list out the things about you which need change. And then commit yourself to change, slowly gradually over a period of time. As Saturn is commitment and regulation he will accept this form of regulated and well-evaluated change regime.

Then on the physical front, you will require medicines and visit the physical doctor often. You will be less receptive to the power of faith and the energy-healing methods. But in any case, there will be chronic diseases and healing will be slow, yet it will be a long life! Evaluate the 6th, 8th houses together for a in-depth on this health aspect.

The in-laws are seen from the 8th house and will be heavily influenced by Saturn. Here he occupies the 6/8 angle to the ascendant sign, thus the agents of the 8th will be adversarial to the personality. So the spouse and his/her family will be restrictive, maybe in constrained circumstances, anonymous working class type. You will be required to perform duties for them. Spouse’s face, speech, voice and behaviour will not be pleasing and often adversarial to your personal well-being. There will be a significant age difference. However she/he would be hardworking and suffer from chronic illnesses.

Relationship with the birth father is not good. Shani is the natural ruler of the 10th house so the birth father will not be of much help in this life, profession or his wealth will not be available to you. As 8th is 12th counted from the 9th house, the guidance from spiritual-father, established religion and ancestors will also be restricted.

From here Saturn aspects the 10th house, 2nd house and 5th house. So typically you would be a hard-working professional, perhaps with lesser salary than you deserve and your creative intelligence is highly structured. Wealth will not be in proportion to the work being demanded unless there are other influences supporting wealth-generation. No bursts of creativity, more like a steady disciplined output. You cannot ‘enjoy’ your creative genius. e.g. no time to play with children.

The results will vary as per the sign that is in the 8th. Also do analyse where are his signs (Capricorn/Aquarius) placed, in the chart, i.e. Saturn is in the 8th as the ruler of which houses of your chart? These other 2 houses will also be subtly influenced by the agents of the 8th house.

Exception is if Shani is in Libra (exalted), or in Capricorn or Aquarius (his own signs), thus he can better structure the energies of the 8th and help you use them, effectively with discipline. By the time you leave the physical body, you will be a master of these energies and may accrue significant occult /tantrik skills to make the death process very systematic. Depending on the other factors in the chart, he can also grant Moksh or at least significant spiritual growth.

Transits of Saturn are relatively long at about 2.5 years per sign, and he goes retrograde for 4-5 months per year. Thus he ensures learning, re-learning and revising his lessons. Then as per the Vimhottari dasha system, Saturn’s Major period, Mahadasha is quite long, 19 years. Also his sub-periods/Antar-dasha, in other planet’s Mahadashas is also quite long. So keep these factors in mind while analysing Saturn and the timing/intensity of his results.

And then as always, the situation will improve after Saturn matures. Also if the ascendant sign/lord, birth Moon, Mars and 8th house lord are well placed, the negatives of this position can be reduced.

I have written about Moon, Sun and Mercury and their effects in the 8th house and also how Rahu/Ketu perform in the 8th house in my earlier posts.
