Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

Moon is our entire self, the sum of our past, present, parallel and future selves. He is the astral, emotional and ultimately the spiritual self too. He is said to be watery in nature but the real meaning here, is that he flows. Life is a flowing experience. The Sanskrit word, ‘Jivan’ means ‘water’ also means ‘life’ and ‘connected to the individual soul. Moon in your energy system, rules over the Ajnya chakra. He decides how the pran/vital energy you pull in from the Universe is allocated. He builds your body/mind. We Indian astrologers/ Jyotishi-s consider the Moon and his placement to be extremely important.

The signs of the zodiac are divided into fiery, airy, earthy and watery. Of these the signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are the earthy ones. These make up the natural Arth trikon, this triangle gives meaning to our life. All the things that one requires for a comfortable secure life and those which give meaning to life are represented by Arth trikon signs. In this trikon, the three signs are sequentially still, dual-natured, moveable. (There are 4 aims in life. Dharm is the foundation of life and right action. Arth is the meaning and all the things which give life a meaning. Kaam is the desires which drive the life. And finally Moksh, release and liberation.)

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

If you want to ace your Arth trikon, you have to consider all the three signs as they are interlinked to each other very deeply. The 9/5 axis operates here, each is the foundation/creativity of the other two. If you are a birth Moon in any of the earthy signs do analyse at the other two signs for support. Of these, the first two signs, Taurus and Virgo fall in the first half of the zodiac. You are focussed on your own self, the energies are directed more to the development of the personality. Capricorn falls in the second half of the zodiac where you give your energy outwards.

  • In Taurus you focus on your close family, personal history, family wealth. How you present yourself in company, small intimate groups etc. You want to get more resources for your own self not for public welfare! Here you build your perfect body/mind. You are built strongly, physically dominating in any setting. Getting you change your mind is a difficult task.
  • Virgo is the service that you are required to perform. The focus is entirely on rebalancing the personal karma with pin-point awareness. You are very wary of creating new karma so can come across as being shy and self-deprecating. Here you understand and act on your sense of karma. This is also a type of building activity where you act to rebalance your karmic debts. Quick thinking but always rooted in solid logic and deep analysis. (Ever really seen a doctor at work? He is focussed on the patient completely, but it is essentially an abstract interest, he wants to diagnose and cure, not for the patient but for his own mental satisfaction. He is internally aware of his duty/karma of serving the patient. But if the patient does not want to listen, he does not bother much. He has done his duty. Now to take the prescribed medicines or not is the patient’s free choice.)
  • Capricorn is where you finally emerge into the larger society. You face shifting goal posts here. Society is in continuous evolution and you feel emotionally validated when you contribute to its regulation. So you are always in movement in tandem with your organisation. An excellent professional, you evolve with your organisation.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

If you are born with the Moon in these signs, you are highly sense-oriented, you emotionally require comforting material stuff around you which you can see and touch. Luxurious clothes, jewellery, art, food, patients, medicines, people, money etc. You have very typical habits which you change with great difficulty as you are emotionally linked to security and stability. And because the overall orientation is towards the material, you require material security preferably a hefty bank balance.

The earthy signs are able to think dispassionately. You are analytical and see logic and the practical applications, hard-working. Desire is for order and method! (I think Hercule Poirot must have been a Moon-Virgo!). Things on purely emotional or imaginative basis do not satisfy your mind. Strangely you come across as being lazy too, but this is when you have temporarily satisfied you need for creating structure and are now expecting to be pampered. Recognition is necessary for all earthy signs. Taurus expects to be pampered by his loved ones. Virgo expects self-recognition from his own mental processes. Capricorn craves social recognition.

General health remains good as the body/mind prefers to remain stable and resists the changes caused by disease. But one thing is common all three sings suffer from digestion related problems. So take care of your diet and exercise. Indigestion is a physical indication that you have not absorbed/understood the things you have achieved. You appreciate the visual, sensual, analytical, material, social angles but miserably fail to appreciate the emotional aspect. If you are a birth moon in an earthy sign, you have to remember that satisfaction linked to material things is not complete unless you feel the emotions also. So try to feel. And if you keep on accumulating worldly goods, you will be perceived to be greedy and materialistic.

Productive, dependable, you create tangible results. Pragmatic, practical and efficient, you start any project with a solid foundation. Your mind is more linked to tangible things, it may be beautiful vases or whatever. It does not imagine or visualise much and you often suffer because of that. Try to be creative too. Being too rigid will ultimately stifle. Your Moon requires repetitive cycles. Try if you can combine the energies and enter a repetitive cycle of growth and consolidation. These three signs are all Vaat in nature. You cause movement and this movement is based on the security of a solid foundation. Thus if you do manage to create something it endures. So when you start a project, make its foundations as solid as you can.

You do not have an understanding of emotions so can easily hurt people. And you do not understand that you have hurt them! These people are often in the background ready to sabotage you. Beware as your professional behaviour and successes will create jealous and envious enemies around you who will attack you purely on the basis of their emotional contexts. You are not a team player and thus your more ambitious projects fail. Lacking imagination, you fail to appreciate that there will be problems in the project as everyone thinks and more importantly feels differently. You have raw power but lack in team work. You have to inspire your team-mates not compete or keep secrets from them. Pettiness, non-communication, hoarding/holding back important information, getting stuck in the mundane stuff, this always causes problems. Your desire for stability can easily translate to boring and predictable. Serious by temperament. Sometimes calculated risks are important and so is depending on someone else. Step back and look at the bigger picture instead of getting stuck in details. Do this once in a while with your bigger projects. Listen to the opinion of your watery partner, this will also reduce the stress on you.

All these three earthy signs find their preferred partner in the watery signs of Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer, sequentially. Soil and water is a highly potent combination, so use your spouse/business partner’s energies. Often your spouse will be the imaginative one and you will turn his ideas into reality. If you can work with your loved one/business partner, both of you will succeed beyond your combined dreams. Your dreamy spouse loves you beyond limits while the solid you offers him unconditional protection. If you both go with this, your relationship will be mutually satisfying. Partners should be compatible not similar, each filling each others blanks, presenting a unified front against others.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

These three signs are ruled by Venus, Mercury and Saturn. All three look on Moon with some animosity. Venus dislikes his need based loving. Mercury is his teenaged son (that says it all). And Saturn with his restrictive behaviour creates fear for the Moon. So there remains a sense of conflict and fear in the background of these earthy minds. See if you can resolve this, to make more sense of your personality.

Then each of these signs are composed of 3 lunar mansions, Nakshatra, of these

  • The first one is owned by the Sun, this lies partly in the sign preceding this one
  • The second one lies completely in this sign and is owned by the Moon.
  • The third lunar mansion is owned by Mars and it lies partly in the sign following this one.

Now these planetary owners are as per the Vimshottari dasha system, but can be used as a valuable pointer on how the time periods controlled by Sun, Moon and Mars will unfold. The Vimshottari ruler of the birth nakshatra is very important as he always has a very subtle but deep impact on the Moon. This is the Vimhottari planetary dasha you were born in and spend your baby-life in. Whatever events and environment was created by this planet has a lifetime impact on you. If you want to know more about innermost self, do read up on the Nakshatra devata/deity of your birth Moon lunar mansion.

Now there is an interesting thing. Moon himself rules the three nakshtras, Rohini, Hasta and Shravan, and these belong to the earthy signs. Thus we should appreciate Moon’s existential character is best reflected in these earthy, Vaishya, Arth trikon rashi/signs.

Moon essentially Builds.

And on very material levels, the biggest resource that we have is our soil. Soil is formed very slowly over millenia and without it we wouldn’t have our civilisation. Water removes the rigidity of the soil and brings it into use. Earth is passive and only when energized by movement does it yield its gifts. So Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, has enormous potential to actually yield results. This just depends on the extent of your awareness and ability to work.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

Moon in Virgo, perfection an emotional need

The environment of Virgo/ Kanya rashi, sets limits on the astral immensity of the Moon. It limits the energy to what can be realistically used/ resolved in this current life. Very pragmatic, practical and yes, perfectionist.

Virgo belongs to Mercury and he is uncomfortable around the Moon. But Moon does not consider him an enemy. Mercury is analysis, precision and database management, he is the impressionable adolescent, highly intelligent, skilful and quick. The Moon is the father of Mercury and no teenager would like his nurturing, protecting Dad in his sign all the time. Every son wants to prove his independence to his Dad. And then there is competition. He wants to show his Dad! The Moon also wants his son to take his resources, use them. Most Virgo-Moon’s suffer from this complicated father-teenage son relationship in their deepest mind. If you are such a birth Moon, do think very deeply on what drives you in this life. If you can pin-point this factor you will feel more well-adjusted in life.

This is also the reason why Virgo is the embodiment of karma. Your focus is on what you are required to do in this current life. You build by offering service. You trade service for karma balance. Virgo is represented by a young woman holding a sheaf of harvested grain in one hand and in the other hand she holds fire, a blazing torch.

‘Limit’ is what happens to Moon in Virgo.

There are always layers of meanings. Moon is your entire self, all the persons you have been, are and will be, across time and lives. The summation of your individual soul’s experience, of karma, of knowledge, of wisdom earned in so many lifetimes is the Moon. Too much awareness of this can drive you mad, so we need ‘limits’. In this life we are limited to this one body. Water will flood and drown if there were no banks to keep it contained. Virgo is the river-bank, the energies of the Moon trained along a channel. Different channels are created to use different aspects of your energy. The humongous information of the Moon is sorted by Mercury into useable bits in Virgo. The focus is very practical and on ‘use’.

You might be aware of so much more but you have the ability to pick up that exact tidbit that you need. Eg you have a huge bundle of files on your desk, but you can accurately pinpoint the one which you need. This exercise requires to to perform an intensive mental analytics first. You are not aware of this mental process, it is so fast! It is like your brain has compartments, every bit of information tagged for easy retrieval. A perfectionist. Highly methodical, your room will be precisely arranged, every detail specifically organized for its utilitarian value. You abhor imperfection. So you make, remake (this might be your actual bed!) and again striving for perfection. This can lead to OCD type of psychological problems later.

1771ba2eeebbfd4835e9b16a6660fc8e.jpg

So to begin with, you are attractive. You first build yourself an attractive shell, your figure and body is well-balanced, the face and eyes are especially beautiful. You dress well, neat and pleasant to look at, very presentable. You dislike carelessness, shabbiness and have good taste. The house is neat and orderly, your cars are well maintained, financial status is stable, you work hard at being comfortable. You are quite practical and would like people around you also to be so. (Your friends think you are fussy!)

The mind is also quite neat and tidy, internally happy and well-organized. You are a good conversationalist, knowledgeable with a good sense of humor. You observe and analyse human nature. You can talk to anyone as long as the topic is non-personal, (you are emotionally repressed sometimes). Logical and with a pleasant voice, you are a treat to listen to. You love music and can dance well, you have rhythm! But you will not take part in anything that seems vulgar or crass! Sophistication, dignity and daintiness is more your style.

You like reading and studying. Formal education is generally good but you also study several subjects informally for your own pleasure. You always keep adding on to your skills. A traditionalist, you prefer sticking to the classic ideas which have been tried/ tested and proved their worth. You are skeptical of new-fangled theories and will not adopt something just because it is the ‘in-thing’. If something is against the accepted norms you can get very critical and demolish it logically. Your opinions are a product of your intensive study, analysis and experiments, and you stick to them. If someone tries to sway you, you resist. You do not attempt to force your beliefs on others either. Never aggressive, you are quietly competent and infinitely patient, a formidable combination!

You have psychic abilities. Virgo has analysed, channelised, filed and catalogued this aspect of the Moon too. Quite convinced about your intuition, you act on these cues. This can freak out people close to you as your behaviour might get strange and, in retrospect, uncanny! Non-religious and organized religion does not appeal to your logical analytical brain. You would rather follow your conscience and intelligence.

You are capable of earning well. Highly intelligent, analytical, decisive, able to pick up the best option, you can work in any field and be really good at it. You think a lot. This is ok to some extent but is often over-done. Every action you perform, you have gone over it in all its permutations and combinations in your mind. Only then do you commit yourself. Even after you commit, you think again from every angle over and over again. Self-doubt and self-criticism is very negative for you, so try to understand that nothing is perfect. Else this will cause health problems connected to the nerves, skin and digestion. Be very careful about your diet and exercise regularly. (Perhaps your mother is a perfectionist or over-worked/ under-appreciated herself?)

There is an emotional requirement for ‘perfection’. You might not realise it but you feel emotionally satisfied when you have performed something perfectly. But ‘perfection’ for a Virgo has very exacting standards which may not be often met. Thus this emotional need is almost never fulfilled.

You are not only about words, you act. You are the silent worker in the background who keeps everything working perfectly. Hardworking, you get tired easily as your body is not internally robust. (You should take adequate rest, a 15-min nap in the afternoon can work wonders.) Helpful and kind by nature, you come across as selective and critical. But despite being so helpful, humble, intelligent etc, you do not have many friends. You are perceived to be self-centered, which you are not! You desire efficiency at all costs, so you are very selective about choosing relationships, things, work, activities which are effective. You will not waste your resources in stuff which is inefficient, this may be a relationship or office-work!

6581469b565a1c943e67b389054e0161.jpg

You are quite loveable, after one gets beyond the outer shield of seriousness. Highly trustworthy, can keep secrets and loyal. Shy, you are devoted to your loved ones, there is a streak of possessiveness in you. Extremely private, you never reveal your emotions to anyone. You project coldness and analysis, taking the emotional immensity of Moon, parceling it into tiny bits, never opening more parcels than you think are useful. You are consumed by ‘practical utility’. Sometimes there is great pleasure in just opening out your arms to the wind and feeling it blow around you. But you cannot do that as you will then question the practicality of doing so (maybe your hair will get tangled in the wind if you do this). If asked, ‘how are you feeling’, you have no real answer. Plain.

Your spouse is emotionally sensitive, not so bothered about facts and figures, very private himself. He may be into meditation, spirituality and contemplation. He is intuitive, so can easily pick up your highly cryptic cues on what you are feeling. But when this happens and he tries to get intimate, you will confuse him by pretending to not feel. Thus a distance can come up in the marriage. You are shy and need a lot of emotional hand-holding (which perversely you are reluctant to accept). Your preferred spouse is Pisces and he is quite capable of doing so, until you confuse him or make him uncomfortable. You do not like your spouse to be demonstrative but yet you want him to be.

You love deeply but lack confidence when it comes to expressing how you feel. There is an in-built insecurity where you feel that if you express your emotions, your spouse will manipulate you using these. But conversely you feel secure with your spouse! This dual mentality with emotions is draining and will adversely affect the relationship. Your rather intuitive and emotionally sensitive spouse will simply get more confused and go find refuge in more mediation! So try to accept that you have emotions and going for a date with your spouse or a movie with a gang of friends is a happy thing. Avoid rationalising and over-analysing emotions, happiness is to be felt not examined. You never initiate break-ups, you are all for maintaining relationships. But because of this confusing facade you present, you have few real friends and often a confused spouse.

What you need is perhaps a hobby. Try to generate interest in at least one thing, not for the analysis but for the abstract experience. You love travel so this can be an option? Be with nature where you can finally relax. Learn to feel.

Some Virgo-Moon-s, especially men, may not marry or get into love/relationships at all. Pisces also represents the abstract and the invisible, the natural 12th house. Here the attraction is towards the inner spirituality, the desire is for personal space, private mediation and contemplation. Those Virgo-Moon’s who do marry, tend to look on their spouse as their anchor to the spiritual realms and often genuinely look to them for guidance.

If you are a Virgo-Moon yourself, you are dedicated and can work tirelessly without acknowledgement. In fact, you will have problems yourself, if you don’t work on solving other’s problems. But as everyone needs a bit of encouragement, do pat yourself on the back once in a while for a job well done. And if your loved one is a Virgo-Moon, do tell him that the selfless service he is offering others is valuable. Virgo souls are really quite beautiful so this should not be very difficult!

Virgo is the natural 6th sign of the zodiac ie it is related to your karmic balance. A dual natured sign can think in several ways thus can create options. Mercury helps evaluate between those options. A earthy sign, ie it is a Vaishya, a trader, knows the value of things and can bargain, make profits. It is Tamasic, ie its energies are enveloping, dense and do not move easily but when they move they are well nigh unstoppable. It is a part of the Arth trikon, ie linked to those things which bring meaning to life. These attributes of the signs and also of the planets are very important. Try to remember their essential natures as this will improve your readings and predictions. Then 30 degrees of this sign is composed of the three Nakshatra, lunar mansions named  Uttara-phalguni, Hasta and Chitra.

Uttara-phalguni nakshatra – This lunar mansion is ruled by the Sun and lies partly in Leo and partly in Virgo. If your Moon lies in the Virgo part of Uttara-phalguni this is how you would be. A combination of Moon, Sun and Mercury will make you brilliant both physically and mentally. You might be a very popular artist, painter, journalist, in politics, a celebrity in some way, your public persona will be well-known.

Hasta nakshatra – This is ruled by Moon himself. There is a very high level of awareness here, internally you are very stable and rock solid, very few things can ruffle your composure. You can be very good doctor or a surgeon or a shamanistic healer. You might be drawn to any rearing, sheltering, protecting, nurturing activity where you use your hands. A hobby can be making handicrafts, perhaps related to your home-culture.

Chitra nakshatra – This lunar mansion is ruled by Mars, lies partly in Virgo and partly in Libra. If you were born in the Virgo portion you will want to create. But you are basically an architect, you can think in the abstract in a way no one else can. That leap of genius is yours. You shine with power and are highly competitive. Highly artistic, your creations are both beautiful as well as dangerous. Very dynamic, maybe you can design weapons! You are highly individualistic, confident and prefer being alone. Of all the Nakshatras, Chitra-Moon is capable of living without marriage or deep relationships. You do not need validation from another living persons. You are self-sufficient in a very intense way.

The Moon mahadasha as per the Vimshottari system is a very fruitful period. For Uttaraphalguni-born this will come in your childhood, you will be building your body mainly during this period. For Hasta-borns you will be born in this Mahdasha. This period will be intensive in ‘building’. You will be building your body and your chakra-system during this time. Connecting with others on very deep levels. The cycles of growth and stability where you consolidate your growth will be seen very strongly here. (And for the Chitra-born, this will come at the very end of life, if you live to be exceptionally old! Most likely you will not experience it.)

Moon builds you, your body, mind, emotions, astral self, your home, comforts, security, etc. He is also a channel through which your individual soul expresses itself. In Virgo he gains precision. He knows exactly what he is supposed to do, how and to what end. He has used the incisive analytics available here, explored several options and has come up with the best possible objective and the best possible way to do it. He feels a bit uncomfortable as this is not his usual way of doing things. (But every father has to adjust himself to his growing-up son!)

Gemini Sagittarius axis, Events in motion, Part 3

What nourishes our souls may not enrich our material lives and vice versa. This is most vividly brought out in this Gemini-Sagittarius axis. (This is the third post in this series continued from here and here.)

Gemini is hemmed between the MoonCancer (2nd counted from) who takes him along a path of emotional treasures and materially happy times with his family, friends, food, drink and dance. And Venus/ Taurus (12th counted from) makes him realise the inherent loss in all these things of the senses and treasures. This is an exhausting position to be in. Things can seem to give pleasures, but suddenly they turn exactly opposite, speech turns to silence and power to impotence. The wisdom of Sagittarius is required to make sense of this reversals and duality.

Gemini is a sign embodying duality. Too much of a choice can ultimately lead to stagnation as one keeps on flitting between the options and not following one path to its culmination. A Gemini dominated personality can think of being strongly spiritual or strongly material but unless he has guidance and support, this fickle Mercury does not really reach there. He can be artistic, courageous, sweet, stern , diplomatic but that doesn’t really get him anywhere unless Sagittarius is there to be his mirror and fill in his gaps.

At the extreme, Gemini can give deep rooted psychological problems and a dissatisfaction with the personality and the environment. But he can be guided to act and to reach his potential in the spiritual or material, he is receptive. Jupiter is required here to widen Mercury’s narrow vision and grant him the strength and patience to wait for his choice and action to fructify. As always blessings of seniors, elders and teachers often are the vital link between action and success.

Sagittarius is hope, and shows Gemini the goal that should be his. He provides the wisdom in making the choice.

Gemini Sagittarius axis, Events in motion, Part 3

Sagittarius is where a person develops ‘spirituality’, you truly understand what this journey is all about. But this road first begins when you use your mind to create options, evaluate them, choose and act with intention. You create karma in Gemini. Sagittarius then is where you develop the widest perspective of the purpose of life, a complete understanding of the foundations your life is based on. However these persons do not receive emotional support from the family and near ones, the comforts of material life are denied to them.

It can be quite burdensome, but his favoured partner (7th from), Mercury/Gemini supports. The  Archer may marry or remain single, but in reality his students/teachers are his real partners. Learning and teaching. The experience and the one who experiences. one cannot exist without the other. As he guides them, he also learns to guide his lower nature (centaur), while developing his spiritual potential. It is a constant struggle. As a teacher, he also learns valuable lessons, as he sacrifices his personality for his students, as he moulds their minds and opens vistas for them, he realises that knowledge when accepted becomes wisdom. Strangely once you accept that something binds you, you are also set free in that instant.

Sagittarius needs the duality of Gemini as his mirror because now he is observing ‘separation’, ‘the act of creation of karma’. His mirror shows him how he started so that he knows how to get to his destination. He evaluates his philosophies against his mirror and thus achieves his destination. Gemini is also courage and boldness. This is is gift to his mirror. The mild mannered Jupiter needs the courage of Mercury to make that final choice of the spiritual over the material. The divine over the animal.

Why does a soul get separated from the Ultimate reality and lose its real self? It plays the game of creation for joy. We are all here because we are enjoying ourselves. The instant we stop enjoying this funfair, we will go home to our true Reality. Gemini and Sagittarius are the two points in the zodiac where we chose to immerse ourself in duality and then choose to understand singularity again.

(A lot will depend on the position of Mercury and his mirror Jupiter. Both these mild natured planets own the four kendra (building block houses, 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th). Kendra-adhi-pati, as a functional malefic can applicable here if these signs are the ascendant signs. This makes life a slight bit harder on the material plane but gives results on the spiritual. As most of us are quite materialistic, not really bothered about the spiritual, this will create stress. But if both these signs engage in some personal spiritual practice they can benefit immensely. This practice will ‘hold’ them as quick moving karmic movements swirl around them.)

This axis is the leap (Mercury) of faith (Jupiter)!

Gemini Sagittarius axis, Events in motion, Part 3

Kendraadhipati, functional malefics

The placement and position of the signs in the chart is of prime importance as it can sometimes turn normally malefic planets like Saturn into the biggest benefic and also turn the biggest benefic Jupiter into a trouble maker.

A bit of background,

The 4 Kendra houses are the building blocks of your personality, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th.

  • 1st house –  the overall personality, the overall environment, role in society, will power, health, longevity etc, basically a snapshot of you
  • 4th house – the security, comforts, emotional health, nurture, mother, childhood experiences, basic education, house, lands, vehicles etc.
  • 7th house – husband/wife, partnerships, legal relations, business, fertility, passion, foreign travels, business rivals too
  • 10th house – social presence, power, prestige, profession, salaries, actions done to resolve karma, power, authority in public etc.

Then there are the Dharma trikon houses, the 1st, 5th and 9th. These are the most auspicious houses in the chart. The 5th and 9th are popularly called Kona houses. The 1st is the link between the Dharma trikon’s creativity and foundation and the building blocks of your life, the Kendra houses.

  • 5th – divine intelligence, creativity, expression of creativity, children, self-ego, recognition as an individual, spirituality
  • 9th – all the support you will receive from all sources, your beliefs, patrons, peers, paternal figures, religion, ancestors, your past life merits etc

Now when planet owns a kona house and a kendra house, it is a Yogkarak planet, and gives extraordinary results.

Then there is one more possibility, when a planet owns just the kendra houses. This is possible when the ascendant is Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces. The axis Virgo-Pisces is the most sensitive of the lot and the Gemini-Sagittarius axis is the most happening. I have written about the 7th lord being the Badhak for dual natured signs, and all four of these are dual-natured signs. Also remember the ascendant lord can never give overtly malefic results on his own but can be stopped from giving favourable results by the influence of malefics.

Now,

  • Gemini ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 4th houses. Jupiter owns the 7th and 10th house. So Jupiter will become a functional malefic, the badhak lord.
  • Virgo ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 10th houses. Jupiter rules the 4th and 7th house. Again Jupiter becomes the functional malefic, the badhak planet.
  • Sagittarius ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 4th houses. Mercury owns the 7th and 10th houses. Here Mercury is a functional malefic as the badhak lord.
  • Pisces ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 10th houses. Mercury owns the 4th house and 7th house and is the functional badhak planet.

If the functional malefic, badhak here is actually occupying his own sign the results are most severely unfavourable. If he just aspecting his own sign, then the results are less severe. This planet will cause more problems in his Vimshottari mahadasha/ antardasha periods. If neither occupying nor aspecting his own sign this Jupiter or Mercury, loses his functional malefic nature and gives his usual benefic results.

So the worst case scenario for these four ascendants will be if both Mercury and Jupiter both occupy their own signs. Both will be giving unpleasant results in life. The ascendant lord will be prevented from giving his auspicious results and the badhak lord will freely give his undesirable results in full dose.

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics..

There is a logic to this. The Kendra houses are the the basic building blocks of our life and most of our activities are related to these keywords. Both Jupiter and Mercury are generally mild natured planets. Jupiter is quite the philosophical elder and Mercury is the impressionable adolescent. If these are to look after these important aspects of someone’s life you can imagine his personality to be mild, gullible often taken advantage of. So for these specific ascendant signs, Jupiter / Mercury have to lose their benefic natures and become somewhat ‘cruel’ so as to better guard these houses. As they gain ‘cruelty’, they stop giving their usual benefic results, often bringing obstructions and obstacles.

Then the best balance would be if Mercury or Jupiter aspects his own sign rather than occupying it so that he is able to give some of his benefic results as well retain a bit of ‘cruelty’ for his guard duty.

In any chart, if there are overtly malefic planets placed in the Kendra houses they will cause problems. These four houses, 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th are linked to things which directly affect you in a very intense way, physically, emotionally, financially and socially. So be very careful in analysing the influences here. And don’t be scared of fancy names like ‘dosh/defect’. Is is just a reminder that you should be careful in handling the keywords related to these houses. A bit of extra-awareness is most often the easiest solution to an astrological ‘dosh’. You can also perform the two remedies as recommended by Maharishi Parashar, mantra and daan.

(This is called Kendra adhi pati dosh in Jyotish. Have avoided using the technical name so that you don’t get put off with the terminology and understand the concept first.)

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics

Virgo and Pisces, the most sensitive axis – Part 3

Virgo is the manifested and Pisces is its dissolution.

These two signs make up the most sensitive axis of the zodiac. They are the most beneficial signs and represent ‘endings’ in different ways. Each is the ending of one half of the zodiac. Pisces is 7th from Virgo and likewise. The first half of the zodiac is where you are creating your reality and your karma. Virgo represents the point where you realise what you have gone and created for yourself. Here you understand the problem statement and work out the best method to solve it. At this point you have had enough of creation and want to rebalance everything that Virgo represents in your chart. So the second half of the zodiac unfolds till you reach Pisces where you finally reach completion.

A Pisces needs the qualities of a Virgo and a Virgo requires traits from a Pisces to complete their personalities. Both are mirror images of each other and on a spiritual level they complete each other.

Virgo and Pisces, the most sensitive axis - Part 3

A Pisces may be outwardly whatever as per his chart, but in his innermost heart he desires to be of help, he is kind, not just to humanity, but to all the beings living in all the dimensions he has access to! The scope of a Pisces is infinite. He is created from the infinite of Aquarius and he uses this infinite resource available to him. He wants the cycle to complete and he knows that with this completion, his existence will be subsumed by the greater Reality. He is driven by experience, he wants to Experience it all and thus transcend it.

Pisces represents the sum total of everything while Virgo represents that part you are aware of and are actively working on. Virgo keeps accurate track of which karma, how much and when to be repaid. Pisces feels his way through. In this axis, when Pisces acts, he feels the joy of liberation as Virgo guides where to act. Pisces is abstract while Virgo is his rational pragmatic mate. A Virgo acts with precision, Pisces goes with the flow. Together they work beautifully, the iron fist in a velvet glove, completing karma, experiencing the understanding and joy of completion.

Virgo means imbalance and is required by karma to serve. He is a product of self-ego, personal intelligence. (Self-ego is produced from Divine Intelligence.) Thus Virgo is, the One who Experiences. Virgo desires to serve for completing his karma, he does not act out of not love/kindness. He is quite materialistic and individual in this way. In Pisces he gets infinite scope to serve. Realisation of imbalance and balance of karma drives him. He wants to subsume the self-ego and scatter it into the vastness of the Divine Self. He is created from a brilliant single pointed focus and his partner Pisces is the diffused infinite. Both together are the two sides of the same coin.

During the wake/Jagruti state a Pisces is a clumsy confused individual. But in the other 2 states of existence, dream/ Swapna and deep sleep/ Sushupti he is formidable. He respects no limits, he can traverse dimensions and link up with any sort of beings, he can act as a bridge between dimensions and do things with his energy which cannot be imagined in the waking state. This however drains him, as he never really sleeps, and he seems hazed out in the awake state. If he does his spiritual practice, he can reach the ultimate prize, the 4th state of existence/Turiya/Om and then he will act as a guide/Guru for others too.

Virgo is awareness. He is very analytical, precise. He can put his emotions aside and think his way out. A very private individual just like his mirror, Pisces. Pisces is completion and the self-reflection but these individuals do not have very defined boundaries of the self. Often they get into trouble, because out of the kindness and love for others they take on other’s burdens. This can and does overwhelm them sapping them of precious spiritual energy. Virgo however clearly knows the demarcations, of personal karma and other’s stuff. When Pisces is confused (happens quite often), he needs the support of a practical, pragmatic, thinking Virgo. And he offers unconditional and complete love in return. It is very easy to take advantage of a Pisces and Virgo has his back on this.

This Virgo-Pisces axis represents karmic balance, completion, realisation of the Ultimate Experience and dissolution of the self-ego. If you have your ascendant sign, moon sign as Virgo or Pisces, do understand that you are not made for the material life, your real life is in the astral, the spiritual, the subconscious. Your goal is Inner Reality. Both these signs are required to serve, one because it knows this logically and analytically through its mental processes, the other because of the genuine infinite kindness of its heart. For both, their material lives will be more happier if they work for others. If they get caught in worldly material pleasures, it will make them quite miserable. Doing spiritual practice for both is essential, solitude and personal space is necessary. Look deep into your nature and think of what qualities you can pick up from your mirror sign so that you can live a better adjusted life.

And for everyone, in your chart, whatever this axis means to you, which ever houses it controls depending on your ascendant, be very aware of its agents and the experience you will gain from these aspects of your life. Expect your karma to be linked to them in very deep and subtle ways. Together they represent the completion of karma and the understanding that it is complete. If there are benefics aspecting these signs it will positively affect the entire personality, while malefics here can cause deep-seated problems.

Virgo and Pisces, the most sensitive axis - Part 3

(I know a few Virgo personalities, all are into divination, astrologers, Cards readers, or tantriks/shamans. Most of them started very young, in their teens, have considerable psychic ability, help their clients very professionally and are very dedicated but detached. Are kind in their personal lives with their loved one, but in their professional manner and in the family are not. And I had a Pisces client, who despite all possible spiritual practice and stuff, was always drained and tired. ‘Looking’ at his back, I saw literally millions of tiny ‘hooks’, other beings were happily sucking up his energy. And the strangest part was that he was vaguely aware of this but was not too bothered about giving away his energy. He was like, ‘the Universe gives and takes away too, why should I bother!’. Had to get him cut all these cords and counsel him about boundaries and to stop being so free with himself.)

This was a summary of the Virgo and Pisces axis, the last part of this 3 post series.
