Yogkarak planets, functional benefics

Yogkarak planets are an important concept in reading a chart. These are functional benefics for the chart and are determined as follows. In your chart, the basic birth chart with the ascendant as the 1st house, check out the following planets,

  1. The lords of houses 1st, 4th, 7th, 10th (these are called the Kendra houses)
  2. The lords of the houses 5th, 9th (these are called the Kona houses, together with the 1st they make up the Dharma trikon)

If you have a planet which simultaneously owns a house in both of these categories then it is a Yogkarak, a powerful functional benefic for the chart and your life.

Here is the list of Yogkarak planets for the ascendants,

  1. Aries ascendant – None of the planets fulfil this condition
  2. Taurus ascendant – Saturn is the lord of the 9th house (sign is Capricorn) and the lord of the 10th house (sign is Aquarius).
  3. Gemini ascendant – None of the planets fulfil this condition
  4. Cancer ascendant – Mars as he owns one Kona house i.e. 5th house (sign is Scorpio ) and one Kendra, the 10th house (sign is Aries).
  5. Leo ascendant – Mars, as the lord of the 4th house, Kendra (sign here is Scorpio) and also owns a Kona, i.e. is the lord of the 9th house (sign here is Aries).
  6. Virgo ascendant– None of the planets fulfil this condition
  7. Libra ascendantSaturn, he is the lord of one Kendra, lord of 4th house (sign is Capricorn) and also owns the 5th house (sign here is Aquarius).
  8. Scorpio ascendant – None of the planets fulfil this condition
  9. Sagittarius ascendant – None of the planets fulfil this condition
  10. Capricorn ascendant – Venus as the lord of the 5th house (sign here is Taurus) and the lord of the 10th house (sign here is Libra)
  11. Aquarius ascendant – Venus as the lord of the 4th house (sign here is Taurus ) and also is the lord of the 9th house (sign here is Libra)
  12. Pisces ascendant – None of the planets fulfil this condition

It may seem a bit strange that the so-called malefic planets, Mars and Saturn are Yogkaraks but Jupiter considered to be the biggest benefic is not a Yogkarak for any ascendant.birthday bow box cardYogkarak for Venus ruled ascendants is Saturn and vice versa. Makes sense in a way, as Venus and Saturn are best buddies. Venus and Saturn may sound a bit funny, something like a happy handsome outgoing man being best friends with an aged sour, workholic discipline freak older man. But look into their natures closely. They match. Both love discipline, Venus too does not like if you break the rules, his rules are moral, of fairness and balance. He is the toughest teacher, teaches us the value of relationships. Both are deeply connected with death. Saturn rules the endurance of your frame and Venus will decide when you have filled your treasuries and thus its time to leave.

So what does this Yogkarak do? In a chart, if the owners of the Kendra and Kona houses are together in a single house they get the capacity to give extraordinary results. The Yogkarak in the specific ascendant’s chart has double the power, as he owns both types of houses, a Kendra and Kona. Thus wherever he may be placed he will always give excellent results. If the Yogkarak planet of a chart is placed well, exalted, with other benefics or in his own sign or has his power enhanced in any way (e.g. in the further divisional charts), it is even better. They can change the entire outlook of the chart.

Saturn is Yogkarak for Libra and Taurus, works well everywhere. If he is placed in a Kendra or Kona, he will give exceptional results for the entire personality. Even in the dushamsthan 6th, 8th and 12th, he will bring out the best possible he can.

  • For Taurus ascendant, if Yogkarak Saturn in the 12th house, sign Aries, he can cause a few problems as he will be debilitated.
  • For Libra ascendant, he will be debilitated in 7th house (sign Aries) which can delay marriage but Saturn’s direct aspect over the ascendant itself can give very good results.

Mars is the Yogkarak for Cancer and Leo ascendant, ruled by the luminaries the Moon and the Sun. Thus the dreaded Manglik tag need not be quite applied to charts having these ascendant signs. Such a Mars can give quite good results overall because of his position as a Yogkarak.

  • For Cancer ascendant, Mars the yogkarak gives very good results in all houses, wherever he may be. If he is in the ascendant Cancer itself, he will be debilitated but still can give good results for the personality. However will cause problems in marriage because of his direct aspect on the 7th house. Such a person will always be aggressive with his loved one.
  • For Leo ascendant, Yogkarak Mars gives good results in all the houses he is placed in, except the 12th house (sign Cancer) where he is debilitated.
  • For both these ascendants, Mars in the 8th can cause some issues, but if such a person follows some deep meditation, Dhyan, pranayam etc where he actively works on his breathing, it will be of use.

Venus is the Yogkarak for Capricorn and Aquarius ascendants. He will perform quite well in all houses, even in his sign of debilitation Virgo.

  • For Capricorn ascendant, Venus debilitated will be in the 9th house. So will be very supportive in life, securing its very foundations.
  • For the Aquarius ascendant, Venus will be debilitated in the 8th house occupied by Virgo. So will support by providing good natured, wealthy in-laws family and also will grant inheritance and legacies and bequeaths.

So if you ever get a chart with the ascendant signs, Taurus, Cancer, Leo, Libra, Capricorn or Aquarius look out for the Yogkarak planets and what they are offering. Their gifts can be so powerful that they can change the entire outlook of the horoscope.

Spirituality in the horoscope

2.jpgNothing is secret in your horoscope. So how do you check out the spiritual level of a horoscope. If its spiritual quotient is high the client is more likely to listen and work on himself and get out of the problems he is having. Each and every house contributes to spiritual progress like this…

1st house – This house should have benefics or at least benefic aspects. This will ensure that the will of the personality is strong enough to overcome all distractions and obstacles. In addition the ascendant owner should be placed well, if he is in the company of malefics or in the dushamsthans, he will grant ill-health and problems. The ascendant owner is the most important planet in your current manifested life so analyse him well.

2nd house – The family environment gives the basic spiritual background and a routine for faith/religion, like daily prayers etc. Also we can see from here if a person tends to cheat in his financial dealings or lies when he speaks. Charity is also seen from here. These are tiny things but honest, generous and true behaviour supports spirituality. Benefic influences here help.

3rd house – This is the house of courage and all planets perform well here. Often we start on a spiritual practice but then falter, forget and get bored. A strong 3rd house will grant determination to continue. Activities like Yog, or skills connected to spiritual practices are seen from here. Also short journeys to pilgrimage places.

4th house – This is the house of emotional stability and confort. If the mind is not disturbed by emotions the aspirant can progress faster. The place where the Sadhana will be performed is also important, a silent stable and energy-rich place helps. Rhythmic activities like breathing, pran-movement etc are linked to this house.

5th house – This is divine intelligence, discrimination and wisdom. You may practice but the success is granted here. Realising the fruits of mantra, tantra, yantra, dhayna, jaap etc is all to be seen from here. It also shows the spiritual progress that you have made in your past life and the merit you have with you now.

6th house – There are always distractions in the path of the aspirant. These are his ‘enemies’. Having a malefic in the 6th house is ideal, removing a thorn with a thorn works here.

7th house – This is the house of relationship. What is spiritual progress really? You are searching for that perfect relationship with yourself. In terms of energy the Kundalini has to reach Paramshiva, perfect union. The 7th house is also this balanced partnership and gains from it!Spirituality 8th house – The house of secrets. A strong 8th house will encourage the aspirant to practice his sadhana in secret, using secret techniques and away from the public eye. The movement of prana and kundalini in the secret routes of the body are the domain of the 8th house. He will also undergo agonies and disappointments here, but it will finally gain the Bliss of Samadhi.

9th house – This is where you access the merit of your past lives and use it (potential seen from the 5th house). Long pilgrimages, learnings, worship, blessings from all the ones ‘senior’ to you. The deep teachings you will receive from your Guru. And after you gain your own experiences, it will represent the teachings that you will pass on to your students.

  • In this modern world, there is a ‘money price tag’ on knowledge. This is wrong. The only qualification for learning esoteric/spiritual knowledge is having a deep desire for it. If you have a deep heart-felt desire to learn, the Universe will send you a Teacher. If you are at the basic levels you will be taught basic foundations, if you have reached higher levels you will be taught deep stuff. But if you desire it, you will be taught it! And after learning, a feeling of gratitude is expected from you. If you remain ungrateful the lesson taught will not be fruitful for you.
  • And then the second part, if you know something and if you meet someone who genuinely desires to learn it, you must teach it.

10th house – This is the house of action and social recognition. If it is strong with benefics, the summary of the spiritual progress (from 1st house to the 9th house) will be used for social service, upliftment of the society and deeds (even misdeeds if malefic influences predominate). Some Gurus have huge followings and thus they have big names in the society. If malefics influence they might get put in jail too, infamy!

11th house – This is the house of gains. Here malefic/benefic planets thrive and give luck. So in a spiritual sense if the social recognition (10th house) gets converted into ego, donations, wealth or the pomp and show of religious authority then there is a good chance that this will ruin the entire scope of the chart. Then again as sadhana increases, siddhis will be offered to you, other beings will try to meet you etc, all acting as a trap perhaps! The last test.

12th house – The real house of Moksh. It will pull you away from them illusions of manifested reality and show you your huge self. Ketu associated here in some way will help. This house needs to be strong with aspects from benefics, so that the promise of spirituality of the chart culminates in Realisation.

Now this was a very very basic outline of the spiritual potential of all the houses. Details are to be seen from the divisional charts, D-9, and D-20. The more significant planets in spiritual context are of course Ketu, Venus and Jupiter. Then next the house owners of the 5th and 9th house are also significant and their placement and power to give results needs to be examined. All the planets will contribute in one way or the other so try and see patterns in the chart. Just a couple of examples for you to think on..

  • e.g. – Ascendant lord with Ketu esp in 1st, 5th, 9th (Dharma trikon) – will grant detachment from the ‘foundations’ of the manifested life. There will be nil ego and such a person is best suited for spiritual practice. He may be a failure in the physical life though with little sense of self, is out of place in social activities, a door-mat!
  • e.g. Analyse the dynamics of the Moksh trikon to get a sense of the energies of the moment of physical death. If the soul is able to access and exit via the Brahmanadi at the moment of death he has achieved Moksh. If the 8th, 12th and 4th houses are strong they can provide this opportunity. A Rahu or even a Mars in the 8th, or the owner of the 8th well placed, exchange of houses between the 12th and the 4th house owners.

Finally as timing is important too, look out for the periods/sub-periods of the house owners of the 1st, 5th and 9th houses primarily and the their synergy with the periods of Ketu, Jupiter and Venus. These periods will allow faster progress.

Generally you will not get a direct question from your client regarding ‘spirituality’, but this analysis is important as it gives you cues on what kind of a person is sitting in front of you and how you should counsel him.

Marak, rulers of the 2nd and 7th

Marak/Marakesh is an important concept in Jyotish. Marak is the planet/s which decides the timing of exit from the physical body, death. The situation of death is defined by the 8th house and the conditions active at the moment of death are seen from the power of the Moksh trikon, but timing is from the Marak. The planetary lord of the 2nd house and the 7th house of the ascendant is the Marak planet for the chart.

Then there are natural marak planets i.e. Saturn, Mars and Rahu. These three can on their own cause physical death without much assistance from other planets but its quite rare. They need to be connected in some way to the 2nd or 7th houses or their lords. Physical death is an extremely significant phenomenon, it is not determined by a single placement but by a synergy of the entire chart’s energies as a whole. The Mahadasha or antardasha ruled by the Marak, or a particularly important transit of the Marak planets can serve as the final break point.optix2.jpgSo why the rulers of 2nd and 7th houses? These are auspicious houses, so why should they be used to judge the time of death. Death is not considered auspicious, or is it?

House 2 – You all know quite of astrological stuff by now, so what all does the 2nd house stand for? Think a bit and read on.

  • 2nd house is the storehouse. You, in your life gain experiences of several sorts. Also you accumulate several types of stuff. These are your assets, the treasures of your personality and your environment (defined by the 1st house). These are ‘collected’ in the 2nd house. You finish collecting all that you have decided on, your treasuries are full. Now what? You leave! The body cannot take in anything anymore, you have completed your targets. Saturation.
  • Now the natural ruler of the 2nd is Venus. He is also rules relationships at every level.  Relationship with the act of death naturally ruled by Mars of Scorpio 8th. The 2nd house here is one-half of the yoke, the other being the 8th house (it is counted seventh from 2nd). When you finish accumulating your assets in the 2nd house, the 8th house will trigger the fast terrifying transformations of your assets, take these stores and use them in a balanced manner, converting your physical identity to that of the astral. Emptying them and making them ready for the next rebirth.

House 7 – After reading this about the 2nd house, I am sure you can work out why 7th house ruler can also indicate the time to exit the physical body.

  • The 7th house rules bargains, partnerships, balance and equatable sharing. Throughout your life you are actively involved in several kinds of partnerships. Every relationship can be viewed through the lens of a ‘partnership’, where both partners gain fairly. So what happens when you reach your goals on partnerships and gains from them?
  • We take birth to re-balance karma, no other reason. Balance is the reason for this life in this body. We decide on how much of this karma-balance-target at the moment of birth. This moment of birth is the 1st house, and the 7th is the other part of the yoke.
  • Once you achieve the goals, it is time to set new targets, i.e. leave the old physical body and take on a new one.
  • The stuff you have in the 2nd house also represents the secret gains from the 7th house (it is the eighth when counted from the 7th). It represents how you have used the energy of the 7th to change the status of your karmic-balance.
  • The natural ruler here is also Venus, as he rules the 7th house of the zodiac, Libra.
  • Venus is the mokshkarak, when yoked to the vitality of Mars he can even grant you Moksh if the time is right. When all your karma is balanced by the assets you have gained in your this incarnation. This is one of the reasons Moksh is considered to be the primary function of Venus and not any other planet.

wallup.netIf in the horoscope the Moon sign is more powerful than the Ascendant then check out the 2nd and 7th house lords counted from this Moon sign, they can also act as Maraks.

Then there are those periods in life where life becomes unbearable. There are catastrophic changes and traumas which makes one want to end it all. But these are not periods where death will occur. These hard times are related to the following planets, their Mahadasha /antardasha or significant transits. The power of the planet to give positive or negative results should always be examined before arriving at a conclusion. And then as always look for patterns not single placements.

  • Lord of the 12th house from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Loss of emotional support and comfort, extreme loneliness and grief. Separation from love and loved ones. A deep desire to move into the astral dimensions permanently.  This causes a desire to leave the physical body frame. The spirit wants to dissolve and separate.
  • Lord of the 8th house from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Again this planet cannot confer physical death but traumatic catastrophic changes which are quite death-like. Transformations of personality in every way, positive and negative. Sudden wealth, legacies, accidents, surgery, magic, tantric stuff, divorce etc, but never actual physical death.

The length of a life is not important the intensity is. Mars rules intensity and Saturn rules endurance. Mars is always willing to change, transform and he has the capacity to generate enough resources to facilitate his fast and furious movements. Saturn is slow, he moves slowly generating his resources and the processes which he rules over linger on. Mars, the ruler of life and death is also the natural partner of Venus, the ‘natural’ ruler of 2nd and 7th, sort of the ‘natural’ marakesh. And Venus is Saturn’s best friend too.

If the chart shows the influence of Mars over this process of physical death, it will be very fast. If Saturn has links to physical death then it will be slow and often via a lingering illness. If you have Mars and Saturn both involved with your 8th house then be prepared for the long haul, a long life has been granted to you. If benefics aspect they will give a graceful and dignified transition.

Sometimes you get a case where the person is enduring a prolonged illness. You look at the chart and see that though the Maraks periods are on, the life span allotted to the chart is not yet complete. Such a typical time frame gives ‘sickness’, this sickness may manifest as extreme sadness (astral body suffers) or actual sickness (physical body suffers). The prana-link between the jivatma/soul and the body/robot is thinned down. The soul has not yet decided to leave. In such a case, prayers and healing (on spiritual, physical, emotional and mental levels) can convince the soul to stay on and continue.

Back to Venus, the morning star! Venus always fascinates me. He is beautiful, balanced, he knows the value of stuff, he grants the deepest knowledge, he decides the time when your body has exhausted itself. He tells you it is time to get a new life! He tests you, he does not grant his wisdom so easily. He defines relationships, the most important one being your relationship with your own self. He is perfection!

Venus Mahadasha

I have written a very detailed post here on Vimshottari dasha analysis, generally on how evaluate the effects of planets during their planetary periods. This post is about the time periods controlled by Venus!venusIf your birth moon Nakshatra/Lunar mansion is Bharani, Poorva-falguni or Poorva-ashadha you will have your Venus mahadasha going on at your birth. The balance of the planet’s dasha period remaining at birth is calculated using the location (degree/minute/second) of Moon in the nakshatra. If you get this birth time wrong your starting point will be wrong thus your entire life-time’s calculation will go wrong.

Venus mahadasha is the longest, a full 20 years. If Venus is well placed this period can be extraordinary covering a lot of life’s major activities, education, marriage, children, health and profession. I have written about how to evaluate Ketu’s Mahadasha earlier, so  follow the same 3 steps for Venus’s analysis.

Step 1 is to know the aspects of life which Venus represents and the power he has to deliver his results.

  1. Venus in your birth chart (divisional chart 1/D-1).
    • Which house and in which sign is he placed? Which aspects of life is he controlling?
    • Is he in the sign of a friend/neutral/enemy planet.
    • Is Venus exalted/debilitated?
    • Which planets is he conjoint/aspected by? Thus which other aspects of the personality is he influencing directly and indirectly. Also which other aspects of your personality are linked to Venus thorough these other planets.
    • Has he matured? Is your client yet to reach the maturity age of Venus or is the maturity being held back by conjunction with later maturing planets?
  2. You can repeat this same analysis from the birth Moon sign to get the effects that this Venus Mahadasha is going to have on the emotional aspects. These aspects of life will be completely different from what is happening on the physical level.
  3. And this same analysis using the divisional chart 9, Navamsha chart will give a perspective on the sub-conscious expectations and also the sum total of Venus’s potential. (If you find this complicated, do it whenever you feel more confident.)

A simple example, in D-1 – Venus is the owner of 3rd house Libra and 10th house Taurus. Venus is placed in 4nd house Scorpio. Moon is in 9th house Aries. Thus Venus is placed in the uncomfortable 6/8th from Moon. Now in D-9 Venus shifts to the 2nd house in sign Pisces and is exalted. So during Venus’s periods, the physical environment will grant lots of interactions, validation, money, resources, good times, with family, property, mother, females in general, siblings, bosses, culture, traditions, society and profession. But emotionally it will not suffice, there will be a curious sense of grief, a discontent leading to changes in how relationships being felt emotionally. On the subconscious inner level however there will be a sense of achievement and the native may start some solid spiritual practice during this period.

Step 2  Smaller segments are called successively Antar-dasha, Pratyantar-dasha, Sookshma-dasha and Pran-dasha. The logic on how to analyse these even smaller units remains the same for each planetary owner of the sub/sub periods.

  1. Find out the power of the sub-period planetary lord and the aspects of life that he controls just like Step 1 for Venus above.
    • Which houses he rules over.
    • Especially if this sub-period lord is the owner of the 2nd or 7th house (Marakesh) its sub-period within the Ketu mahadasha can cause physical death. If Venus is itself the Markesh then he can cause death in his own sub/sub-sub periods.
  2. The mutual relationship between Ketu and the sub-period lord. If they are in the 6/8 or 2/12 uncomfortable aspects, that sub-lord’s sub-period will not be comfortable.

Step 3 is the routine planetary transits/gochar which will modify results during their transit periods. Using your software draw your birth chart on a paper and superimpose the current planetary positions on it. Use a different pen so that you can make sense of the composite chart you are drawing. Check out for the aspects and their strenghts.pexels-photo-1711498.jpegNow to analyse the sub-periods of Venus. These are very very general readings just to trigger your own thought processes. Readings/combinations from books are for reference, as a starting point for your own further analysis as every horoscope is unique.

  1. Venus antardasha – 12 months 0 days
    • If Venus is well placed in your horoscope, he will give luxuries, good clothes, good food, recognition, education, ceremonies and functions, buying property, marriage or multiple marriages, birth of children, religious activities, gains of every type and happiness.
    • If not able to give benefic results in his periods Venus will cause arguments with family members, problems with government, separation from spouse, arguments with women, losses in partnerships, physical pain and other tragedies depending on his karakatva and power to give results.
  2. Sun antardasha – 20 months 0 days
    • If Venus and Sun are mutually comfortable in the horoscope this period will naturally give good results depending on the karakatva of both, relations with father, government, boss, prospects of higher education, creative expressions, birth of children, fulfilling love affairs, luck etc will be good
    • Else you will face problems in all these aspects of life, physical vitality will also be low and there will be losses.
  3. Moon antardasha – 14 months 0 days
    • If Moon and Venus are able to give benefic results together then expect favourable relations and gains from your mother/maternal figures and females in general. Worshipping the Devi will be fruitful.
    • Otherwise this period can cause emotional distress from broken relationships, loss of  stability in partnerships and loss of material comforts money and other resources will diminish.
  4. Mars antardasha – 36 months 0 days
    • If Venus and Mars are mutually in good aspects to each other then it will be a perfect balance between personality and the environment. The concerns of the individual and the partner both will be addressed.
    • Else this period will be a conflict between the persistent needs of the partnership/contract/alliance and the dominating needs of the individual.
  5. Rahu antardasha – 32 months 0 days
    • If Rahu and Venus are comfortable mutually the ambitions indicated by Rahu will be gained. There will be social mobility, awards, recognition, fruitful travels, enjoyments etc but there will remain a chance of physical illnesses.
    • If they are in uncomfortable aspects to each other it will be a miserable period of thwarted ambitions, disgrace, travelling without successes, physical problems etc.
    • pexels-photo-1711483.jpeg
  6. Jupiter antardasha – 38 months 0 days
    • If Venus and Jupiter are positioned to give benefic results together this period can be extraordinary. In addition to the normal happinesses in the material life, like marriage, children, education, gains, prosperities etc this combination is highly conducive to spiritual progress.
    • Else there will be an expansion of discord and losses on every levels.
  7. Saturn antardasha – 34 months 0 days
    • If Venus and Saturn are suitably positioned then this period can be quite beneficial, both are quite good friends. The person can experience extraordinary re-balancing of karma in a positive sense. Both balance and beauty and work and fairness will be there.
    • Else this period will burden you will unfulfilled work, tasks which just keep on increasing. There will be pressures and unfairness from the public and in profession. Losses in job and social stability almost always happens coupled with physical strain.
  8. Mercury antardasha – 14 months 0 days
    • If Venus and Mercury are both well placed and able to give benefit then gains which will be linked to communication, speech, and money. May write or speak or listen to auspicious things. Happy times spent with siblings, team-mates and the younger crowd.
    • Else if they are uncomfortable then losses will happen depending on the karakatva, but especially loss of property is likely, may even get homeless!
  9. Ketu antardasha – 40 months 0 days
    • This is the final sub-period of Venus Mahadasha. In this period you will release all that related to Venus and prepare yourself for the upcoming Sun mahadasha.
    • If Venus and Ketu can give mutually good results then this period will give unexpected gains, but an underlying sense of unease will remain.
    • If not then there will be dangers from snakes, cheats, problems to the head, losses, staying away from homeland, excessive expenses, quarrels etc in all relationships. Things will happen which will cause extreme distress but there will be no real reason for such painful events to happen.

The generic remedy for those suffering from problems during this period of Venus Mahadasha is reciting Shri Sukta or the beej mantra of Venus at least once a week on Fridays.

Analysing the horoscope for results expected during planetary dashas is quite easy. Everyone who wants to learn astrology should analyse their own horoscope first in complete details. But with clients doing this entire Mahadasha reading will always be a thankless job, as your clients to begin with won’t have the correct birth time, so you will have to first correct it. Then they will not have patience and will insist on immediate solutions. And finally if you tell them something as simple as reciting the beej mantra 108 times, not every day but at least once a week! they will not do it, and still expect the problems to resolve magically. And finally will go to another practitioner who will offer them totkes and ‘magical remedies’.

So do this analysis for yourself first and offer these in-depth readings to clients only if you feel that they deserve so much of your time and energy.

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

Venus owns the 2nd and the 7th signs/rashi of the Zodiac, Taurus/Vrushabh and Libra/Tula. Thus he is also the natural owner of the 2nd and 7th houses/bhava of the chart. He is the agent/Karak of treasuries and partnerships, of everything that adds value and validation to you. Venus is all the ways you feel good about yourself.astrologyVenus is the Ruler of Taurus

This Venus personality has to maintain the resources of value in every sense, from the physical, spiritual, emotional, histories and songs. And he is very good at increasing his collections, hoards and treasuries of every type. He is the soul of every party and knows how to get the mood going. This Venus may sound easy-go-lucky but has an important role in maintaining the social norms and he is very serious about it. He is the custodian of the traditions, knowledge and stories of the family culture. He will resist every change which will unbalance. But his resistance is also beautiful and balanced, the iron fist in a velvet glove. At the very basic levels, he feels good about himself in the society when he has money!

This Venus can get so attached to money and the things that money can buy that he can subsume his personality to these things. He then considers his brotherhood and neighbourhood to be his biggest assets. He is interested in the stability of his homeland and also the welfare of his mother and maternal relatives. This Venus is quite at home with expressing his creativity and being in the public eye.  However he is susceptible to malefic evil eyes and jealousy, which are a result of being too much in the public eye. He is distrustful about equitable sharing of resources with legal partners and prefers keeping it to himself, however secret ways of increasing his assets appeal to him. With his chosen spouse he will be on good terms but there will be an undercurrent of unbalance, of complaints and stress. He is again not very interested in listening to his peers and paternal figures. His profession and actual father are very important to him though. His life philosophy will be to work hard and play hard! And he does gain through his profession and has multiple sources of income. Social status and power is the foundation of this Venus’s life and pleasure.

Attached to idea that he needs to be valuable in the eyes of the society by displaying his collections he will forget that he needs to find his own real personality first. By the time he realises that the validation he receives from society can be quite unpredictable, fleeting and erratic, it might be too late to seek his own Real Self.

Venus is the Banker in Taurus.astrologyVenus is the Ruler of Libra

Venus in his second form is required to maintain legal and equitable partnerships of every type in every context. Personal, professional, emotional, spiritual, counselling, trading, etc, all sorts of relationships are defined by Venus. At the very basic levels he will feel good about himself if he has a good marriage. I have written a detailed post on the inherent balance of Libra here.

Libra seeks balance. Anything that is out of balance or unfair is deeply disturbing to this Venus. He is fair, impartial and quite intellectual here. He bargains and keeps track, if he has given out something he will expect fair returns. The earthy good humour of Taurus-Venus is absent here. Venus-Libra likes refined intellectual company. (I wonder does he even laugh out aloud till tears come in his eyes). His level of intellect can be so rarefied that he sometimes comes across as an intense workaholic driven personality. He is quite secretive about his own resources and his pleasures are also not in public. His favoured company is peers, patrons, religious and spiritual personalities with whom he can interact on the intellectual plane. He is on good terms with his own father and often is involved in a family business, most likely a lawyer! He likes his work and his office soon can become a home.

This Venus loves displaying his creativity in public, in front of an audience of strangers. Stage fright is simply out of the question. His children are also quite the little performers in school plays and lucky in life. His losses, diseases, debts and enemies are few on the physical plane but he suffers in secret. His partners are vigorous, physical leaders. He partners with pioneers and then follows them up creating bargains and alliances. He has few close friends and siblings with whom he connects. He can be very passionate about humanitarian ideals as long as it is fair for everyone concerned.

Venus is the Lawyer in Libra.astrologyIn my personal opinion Venus is even more dangerous than Saturn. Saturn is at least ‘in your face’ straightforward even, if he is going to make you balance your pending karma he will openly do it. You know you are in for a phase of hard work and stress. Saturn and Venus are also best buddies, with Saturn getting exalted in Libra.

But Venus coats every action of his with such sweetness that you never really understand what is really going on. He is the strictest teacher, Daityaguru Shukaracharya, and his karmic lessons are the most difficult because they don’t look like lessons. If you are satisfied with the validation you get from the society or your partners you will not look inside for the real spiritual validation from your Real Self/Moksh. And validation from fellow humans is very dangerous, it is erratic, changeable, un-predictable and volatile.

Back to physical life, if Venus is not in a position to give good results in your horoscope you face an inner sense of invalidation. ‘Un-worthiness’ is created. The only way to get out of this crippling feeling is to understand that you have to first realise your own self-worth! If you can generate this sense of approval, value, worthiness and appreciation for yourself at your deepest emotional/psychological levels this is forever.

If you analyse your marriage and your relationship with your loved one, you will realise that you both basically make each other feel ‘worthy’. Talking, romantic dinners, movies, travelling together, physically touching, gifts, flowers and jewellery is a way that we offer validation to our loved one and expect the same validation in return. If we do not receive this in return we get dissatisfied with the relationship and seek a way out. Else if validation turns into devaluation and criticism we seek to dissolve the partnership. But there is tremendous spiritual and emotional energy in addition to financial, legal and social aspects in this alliance. Thus the dissolution process affects the emotions and spiritual stability of both. So what do you do after this break-up? Search for another human partner for validation or search for your inner worthiness?

In a business partnership also validation exists, the financial statements and the profits you two make together is appreciation and proof of ‘worthiness’. Once this validation is lost eg. the business makes losses you two break the partnership. There is little emotional involvement here so dissolving the partnership consists of wrapping the remaining material, financial and legal issues. Starting with a new business partner or going solo into new ventures next is also comparatively more simple.

So here is Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra. He is not so romantic as he looks. He is a Guru, so he will by the best means possible take you onward on your spiritual journey. He has infinite patience too, so will wait patiently till you ask for his real gifts. Only then will he show you the Ultimate which is behind his facade of beautiful pleasures.

Law in the horoscope

Just like education, law and legal matters are of several types. If you ever need to decipher any question related to ‘law’, check these 3 houses out.

  1. The 7th house is the main house to do with legal and partnership related activities.
  2. The 9th house is the house which deals with the philosophy of law.
  3. The 3rd house is the house of the ability to communicate and personal confidence.

https://psychologicallyastrology.comThe 7th house

This is the house of legal stuff. Bargains, contracts, partnerships made under the legal regime are seen from here. To present a good argument you will always need a good 7th house. This house allows you to present coherent arguments sourced from the legal texts in court. Here the lawyers do not interpret the law, they quote the different sections/case laws and presents balanced arguments for his client. This is a practical application of the law where one wronged party seeks redress and legal compensation from his partner under the contracts they both had willingly made under the prevailing legal regime.

This house will also cover and out of court settlements via an arbitrator, settlement officer, facilitator, etc. Here too the process is essentially same as in a court room but with a difference. Both parties have decided to accept a third person whose authority they both agree upon, as a mediator. And both want to reach a mutually amicable and acceptable solution. These settings are a bit informal as compared to the courtroom setting.

Now to do a complete analysis of this 7th in terms of legal issues is somewhat like this. You will have to consider all the houses and their results in the perspective of the 7th.

The effects of this house is to change the assets/identity of both the partners through communication of disagreement (8th is 2nd counted from 7th). The people who are involved in resolving the issues are peers, authorities and senior member of the society but they sort of step down. They are the philosophers but they come down to the practical levels to solve your arguments (9th is 3rd from 7th). This brings you stability in the professional relations or emotional stability and comfort in the eyes of the society (10th is 4th from 7th).  The matters of this house often require you to express yourself intelligently and in front of a large audience (11th is 5th from 7th). Also the outcome is losses of enemies, debts, disagreements and enforced/illegal service (12th is 6th from the 7th).

Then all this results in a more balanced and fair expression of your partnership, thus adding to your personal ego (1st is 7th from the 7th). Now often legal issues and court cases result in a a change in your personal resources, may reduce them or increase them (the 2nd is the 8th from the 7th). It is even possible that you may be recognised as a senior or a paternal helpful figure in your local neighbourhood/extended family as a result of your confidence in dealing in legal matters (3rd is 9th from 7th). Now this will spill over in your professional comfort and acumen also; and you will in some ways be a better father to your own biological children (4th is 10 from 7th). If your luck is with you, you might make a mark which will bring you more sources of income (5th is the 11th from the 7th). And finally the loss of balance and unfairness is represented by the placements of the 6th house (6th is the 12th of the 7th).

This sort of analysis may seem quite tedious, but it answers your question completely. If you have a strong 9th house as above, the judges will favour you, if the 2nd house is well placed you will gain money from the legal case etc.

Now the natural 7th sign of the zodiac is Libra and its lord is Venus, so these 2 factors will also influence the matters of the 7th wherever they may be placed in the horoscope. Then how the person feels about legal matters will be seen from the 7th house counted from the moon sign. Analysing these factors will present a complete picture of the legal activities of the 7th house.https://psychologicallyastrology.comThe 9th House

Now the 9th house is always the philosophy and the theoretical background. It may not have any real practical use, but it is the foundation on which the practical use rests.

Example, The Parliament deliberates on how new laws are to be made; these are working in the 9th house now. And then these laws are interpreted in the higher courts as a function of the 9th. The nitty-gritties/practical aspects of the case are argued out in the lower courts. In most cases interpretation is not needed here as the laws, case laws and rules are are clear enough. But for a few cases where the lower courts are unable to satisfy the litigants the scene shifts to the higher courts which have been vested with the power of interpretation. These higher courts interpret the existing laws in newer ways to get to a new case law.

This is how the group of paternal figures, peers, patrons and senior scholarly individuals use the philosophy and intent of the law. Here new law is created for a wide section of humanity under the natural ruler of the 9th Jupiter and his sign Sagittarius, the natural 9th sign and its ruler.https://psychologicallyastrology.comThe Third house

This house is always important as it describes the personal boldness and the ability to meaningfully communicate. This ability is necessary for every aspect of life and especially in settings where you have to argue. Fight with words! That is one way how the 3rd house is involved in ‘law’.

And second, this house also consists of the practical applications of law in every sense. The rules you have to follow on the road, in your office, even the rules your mom enforces at home is the ‘law’ as defined in this house. Here if you break a rule, no one will drag you to the formal courts. For example, your mom+dad will form an ‘internal committee’ to evaluate your behaviour and then to discipline. This might seem rather low profile and harmless at the time, but will have repercussions the next time you want your allowance increased!

Now the natural 3th sign is Gemini and its lord Mercury so these 2 subtly influence the 3rd wherever they may be placed. Then the emotional context and comfort levels are seen from the 3rd house counted from the moon sign. Analysing these factors will present a complete picture of the legal activities of the 3rd house.

This was the theory on analysing how your legal problems will be resolved and how will every aspect of your chart contribute it. I hope this helps!

To decipher Multiple Spouses!

It is quite common to see people indulging in multiple marriages. A sequence of marriage, divorce, remarriage or multiple spouses together at the same time. Thus more complicated for the astrologer to interpret marriage-related questions. A person will have a series of girlfriends/boyfriends, then marriage, perhaps extra-marital affairs, then divorces and re-marriages! Thus we need to look into the horoscope with more care. So lets check out this complicated question of multiple spouses!pexels-photo-1454987.jpegFirst a bit on what is marriage! Marriage is karmic the domain of the 7th house, legal partnerships negotiated by Venus. Romance is more self-centric, the domain of the Sun, girlfriend/boyfriend is seen from the 5th house. For a relationship to be considered to be a marraige, there needs to be a legal alliance, a contract, an understanding, before a witness. This can be a traditional marriage, or a marriage in court, or (this is stretching it) if a child is born or even conceived/aborted without a formal marriage, this child is considered as the witness to the marriage.

You can also calculate the number of marriages through palmistry. See the edge of the palm of the dominant hand, right under the little finger/Kanishta, the space between the heart line and the base of the finger. Count the number of well defined horizontal lines, that is the number of spouses indicated in this life for you.

For marriage, the first and foremost planet to analyse is Venus – He is the natural ruler of the 7th house of the zodiac, Libra. Wherever he may be located, Venus will have an influence on the marriage alliance. Generally Venus is considered to be the agent of ‘Wife’, but I have seen Venus indicating the ‘Husband’ too, thus I consider him to indicate ‘Spouse’ in general.

  • If the Venus is within 15 degrees of any other grahas including Rahu/Ketu then he may grant multiple spouses. If Venus is with Rahu the spouse will be ambitious, interested in social mobility and breaking the rules! Moon with Venus will give an emotional, sensitive, maternal type of partner. A Venus alone will give a more balanced partner.
  • If Jupiter is with Venus, then multiple spouses are almost certain, you might see a rich man having 3-4 wives, each wife in her own house and established properly.
  • Even the headless graha Ketu with Venus can grant multiple partners, the narrative will be widowhood/abandonment/divorce/separation thus the new spouses.
  • Then Venus with any other graha, especially in the 5th house will give multiple spouses.
  • In the 9th divisional chart/Navamsha, check out the placement of Venus, if alone or with multiple planets. This indicates the sub-conscious expectation of marriage and the spouses.

Now a look at Jupiter. The planet of expansion is deeply connected to marriages and your spouses. He  is taken to represent just ‘husband’, but I have seen him indicate ‘wife’ too so I consider him as an agent of ‘spouse’.

  • Jupiter if occupying the 7th from ascendant or even the 7th from birth moon sign causes expansion of the marriage event giving multiple spouses. Again the character of the partner can be judged as per the nature of the planet accompanying Jupiter.
  • Jupiter if conjunct with the owner of the house 7th from ascendant or 7th from birth moon will grant multiple spouses.
  • Jupiter in the 7th house in the Navamsha chart indicates the potential for multiple marriages, but the D-1 must support in some way for it to be actually manifested.

arrangement beautiful beauty bloomingThe houses which indicate the next marriage partner is always counted 8 houses from the house indicating the current marriage partner. This is how it works,

  • 7th house indicates first spouse
  • 2nd house represents the second spouse
  • 9th house represents the third spouse
  • 4th house represents the fourth spouse

If you count these houses from the ascendant sign in your birth chart D-1 you will get the physical reality, the environment and the circumstance of the marriage partner. The physical attributes, looks, family situation etc.

If you count these houses from the birth moon sign you will get the emotional context of every spouse. Will the marriage event be emotionally fulfilling, secure, comfortable and stable. The reality of the intimacy between the two. And the perception regarding the success or otherwise of the marriage contract. This is an important analysis as sometimes you see marriages doing well on the physical front but collapsing on the emotional fronts. Or you may see a physically abusive marriage continuing well because despite the physical abuse the chart offers emotional stability!

Then finally if you count these houses in the Navamsha/D-9 chart you will understand the expectations and the sub-conscious reasons behind every spouse. D-9 is the total astral experience, this may or may not be fully manifested in the real material world represented by the D-1 depending on several trigger factors. Eg, if the D-9 shows possibility of a second spouse but the person and his first spouse do astrological remedies or engage in mantra jaap or even good karmas together the sub-conscious possibility of the second spouse may not materialise in the real life.

The 7th house is what mirrors you in every aspect so the first spouse is the most important in this way. This is the house of balance, alliance and legal partnerships. But if the karma of this house gets completed by death/divorce/abandonment etc. then the 2nd house gets active. The second spouse is more likely to be someone strongly connected to his/her family lineage, interested in interacting with family/friends, food/drink and wealth. The typical 2nd house keywords! Or you might meet this person in such a setting of song and dance. In case this karma of second spouse also gets completed within this lifetime then you get to the third spouse. This is more likely to be a more philosophical personality, more mature, more into public and visible roles in the society etc, apply the keywords of the 9th house to decipher this personality. And so on, counting the next 8th house to get the nature of the next spouse.

These second onwards spouses take on the traits of the 2nd, 9th, 4th and onwards houses, thus mirror your family, paternal figures, maternal figures etc check out the keywords of these houses. Thus afford another chance for you to revisit this house (now in this very intimate relationship) and resolve the karmas related to it quite beautifully.pexels-photo-931155.jpegNow you know the house you need to see for checking out the spouse, first spouse is 7th house, second spouse is 2nd house and so on. The next factor that you need to see is the owner of the house, where is he placed in relation to the house and if he is comfortable or not. And also the planets placed in the house. These will add more details to your analysis. For example a Ketu in the 7th will give a disinterested partner who may abandon you, then a Mars in 2nd will give a more athletic out-going and passionate partner number two.

But remember, the ‘partnership’ is not just limited to a human actual person. This may be a concept or a way of life or a philosophy or a Deity. Each one of us has a significant partner, our mirror.

So this may also interpreted as, after the completion of the 1st marriage, the person may immerse himself in his own family affairs or spend his time with family/friends, or in making more money! May not remarry and consider this lifestyle to be his significant partnership. Or after the completion of his second marriage karma with his second spouse, turn to religion, philosophy and the divine! He may start a new thought process of helping the human race, get into social service and consider this to be his significant partnership.

To interpret anything to do with marriage, considerable delicacy and understanding of the social norms and culture is necessary. If additional ‘marriages’ are indicated they will happen. If the society approves of divorce/remarriage, or having multiple husbands/wives then these additional spouses will be legitimately in the open. However if the society does not allow (check position of Saturn to see this aspect of the marriage/spouse event), the additional spouses will happen but in secret and will be denied in the public life.

Ultimately we choose our partners based on our sub-conscious expectations. If you are scared of marriage, expect a similarly afraid partner. If you are desperate to get a spouse, expect a similarly frustrated person as your spouse. However if you are content and a balanced personality you will marry a similar happy person and make the most of your married life!
