The adversarial 6/8 axis

In the horoscope, certain axis are considered adversarial to the personality. The worst possible mutual placement is the 6/8 axis (Shad-Ashtak), then the 2/12 axis and to some extent the 3/11 axis. This post is about the 6/8 axis. This can manifest in the following ways.

  1. Houses in mutual 6/8 axis
  2. Planets placed in mutual 6/8 axis
  3. Sign and its ruler planets placed in 6/8 axis

The adversarial 6/8 axis

Houses in mutual 6/8 axis

The 6th is the karma you have chosen to resolve in this life, it is a burden, but a burden consciously chosen at the moment of birth. But awareness of the burden does not make it any less easier to bear. The 6th is debtors, litigation, all that causes unbalance, servitude, service, suffering, betrayal, distrust, suffocation, broken promises, breached agreements, victimhood, suppression, theft, disease, illicit, conflict etc. You are required to serve people under these conditions or suffer in this way at other’s hands, this is the naked face of karma. Here you are required to give more than you receive, to rebalance the karma from your past lives.

The sixth counted from every house represents all these adversarial actions with reference to the matters of that house. Will write about this one example, the rest of the houses will be on the same lines.

e.g. the sixth from the 7th house will indicate how you are required to serve/suffer in the marriage contract. Possible problems in your marriage will be seen from the 12th house. Malefic influences in the 12th house indicate that you are required to ‘give’ more of yourself than your spouse in the marriage partnership. You might have to juggle office, work, cooking, housekeeping etc while your spouse is relatively free of all this. You might be forced to work more, give more of your energy in keeping this relationship going. This may cause you emotional or physical stress. Emotionally you might feel that you are being loved ‘less’, the marriage will not give you the support you need. On the physical plane you might not be able to enjoy the comforts of life, good clothing, healthy food or rest. You might be considered to be inferior to your spouse in the social context. Your spouse may be physically exploitative/abusive or you might feel him/her to be so. This exact result will depend on the actual malefic planets connected to the 12th house. It is possible that your spouse does not actively mistreat you, but you will feel his/her behaviour to be exploitative, depending on the malefics influencing your 12th house. If there are benefic influences on the 12th house these results will be minimised.

However Vimshottari periods of the 12th house lord will be tiring for you in the context of your marriage. This may be his Mahadasha/main period or his Antardasha/sub period in the Mahadasha of another planet.

And then the nature of the 12th is also a drain (counted sixth from) for the relationship. 12th is imagination, you visualise/fantasise about your perfect spouse, wasting your precious time/emotions/internal energy doing so. 12th is also sleep, You might not sleep properly after marriage for as simple a reason that your husband snores! But your energy is drained. 12th also signifies the energy expended during physical intimacy which naturally occurs after marriage, this is also an energy drain.

Now the other half of the axis, the eighth from. The 8th house is fundamental changes in the self-identity linked to sudden shocking events. This is a trying traumatic house. But if you can navigate through and accept the change it works for the good.

Lets continue with the 7th house example, the eighth counted from the 7th is the 2nd house. The 7th is the house of negotiations, bargains, equitable sharing, fairness, relationship, legal contracts and marriage. So after you get married immediately, you and your spouse are required to lose your individual identities and merge. You lose your name, house, job, family, familiar relatives, social identity, emotional foundation, entire mind-set, your physical-body, your energy-bodies and all these are transformed. I have seen this happen, a few mantra, the Agni/fire rituals, the Vivah/marriage ceremony and the auras of the two are changed completely. There is no going back. This transformation creates the 2nd house of family, shared resources, lineage, shared history, shared good times, speech, wealth, wealth-generating behaviour, the common ‘face’ you two show to the outer society etc. If there are benefic influences here, you go through this transformation easily and this contributes to your marriage success. Malefic influences on the 2nd houses creates unpalatable changes in marriage like a second spouse. In a marriage it is necessary that the two partners change, if they do not change the marriage itself will end.

The adversarial 6/8 axis

Planets placed in mutual 6/8 axis

Then the planets placed in such mutual axis are adversarial to each other and tend to give not-so-comfortable results. e.g. Libra ascendant. Mercury in the 4th house and Jupiter in the 9th house. (Mercury is ruler of the 9th and 12th houses. And Jupiter rules the 3rd and 6th houses here.) If you count from Mercury, Jupiter is placed eighth from him. And if you count from Jupiter, Mercury is placed sixth from him. Thus they are in the adversarial 6/8 axis and will not work well together. This means that the agents represented by Jupiter and Mercury will not give comfortable results when taken together. There will be several ways in which this works out. Your spiritual teacher will not teach you the necessary skills. Your university professor will not have time to guide you in your course work. If you fall seriously ill, you will not get the proper medicines in time. You cannot expect genuine feelings from your brothers/cousins/extended family, etc.

As per the Vimhottari system, the 120 yrs of human life is divided into main-periods/mahadasha of the planets. Within these main-period, there are sub-periods/antardasha. If the owner of the Main-period and the owner of the sub-period are in the 6/8 angle their give a bad time. In the above example, two periods will be especially traumatic, first will be the Antardasha of Mercury in the Mahadasha of Jupiter. And the second will be the sub-period of Jupiter in the main-period of Mercury. Be careful during these two typical sub-periods as all the agents of stress will be active.

Sign and its ruler planets placed in 6/8 axis

The 6/8 axis works in a third way. The house and the placement of the house owner in the 6/8 axis gives not-so-favourable results. In the above example, Jupiter (in 11th house) and his sign Pisces (placed in 6th house), are in the 6/8 axis from each other. So you cannot expect Jupiter to give favourable results with respect to the 6th house and neither can you expect Pisces to perform well here. Some expected results, health problems will be created with no easy solutions, you may not afford a doctor, or the medicines, wrong diagnosis will occur. Dream states will drain the energy. You might travel astrally draining your energy. Sleep will be disturbed, deep sleep may not be available. Meditative states may be difficult to achieve. You will not be allowed solitude. Guidance from spirits can actually misguide!

Again in the above example, Mercury (in 4th house) and his sign Gemini (in 9th house), are in the adversarial 6/8 axis from each other. So the things connected to these will also not give good results. Some results which can be expected, you will always be confused about your spiritual/philosophic path. Spiritual teacher may not guide properly. Mother will be argumentative and drain the energy. There might confusions connected to your higher education. Your peers/patrons/seniors will not guide properly, etc.

In a horoscope you will naturally analyse the 6th and the 8th house counted from the ascendant. But you will also need to analyse the 6th and 8th from the birth Moon, this placement will give you an indication on what will cause stress and trauma on the mental/emotional levels.

The adversarial 6/8 axis

8th house Dushamsthan

The 6th, 8th and 12th houses of the chart are called the Dushamsthan, of these the 6th is considered the most turbulent as it is linked to the awareness and the resolution of Karma/bondage. The 12th is dissolution of the manifested. The 8th is then catastrophic transformations of identity where the physical, emotional or spiritual identity undergoes a rapid, forceful and often traumatic change. The death of the physical body is the most extreme change which is seen from here. This is the energy of the Rudra, from the 33 koti devatas who make up your body. Catastrophic changes to the body/ mind /soul, always lead to very intense progress on the spiritual levels.

Every sort of ‘Shock’!

Broadly the 8th house from the ascendant governs the situation of physical death, longevity, hidden assets, legacies from the dead, secret knowledge, mysteries, secrets of all forms, undiagnosable diseases, the act of childbirth, the movement of pran/vital energy in the body, occult, tantra, openings of every sort, evolution/involution, cycles of destruction and creation, disappearances and re-appearances, powerful but invisible transformations. Unplanned, unlikely, unanticipated, emergencies, upheavals and meltdowns. Self-destruction coupled with rebirth. And ultimately the potential for recovery, reinvention and reactivation.

8th house Dushamsthan

Energy (Prakruti) cannot be destroyed, it can only change from one form to another. The 8th house counted from every house will indicate the potential for transformations related to the keywords of that house. So e.g. if you are looking at the marriage aspects of a chart, also analyse the 2nd house (counted eighth from the 7th), for secrets and changes to the married state. Then the 8th house from the birth Moon should always be analysed. It indicates emotional turbulence and the threats to the stability of the mind and emotions, intimidation and abuse.

The 8th house is never very visible, just like the natural 8th sign of the zodiac Scorpio, it has unfathomed depths. The 8th is a part of the Moksh trikon with the 12th and 4th houses. It facilitates ‘release’. So unless you focus on it specifically, you will remain unaware of your occult potential.

Here is where the walls of creation break down and reform. The invisible comes out and suddenly you realise its significance. The 8th is intimately connected to the occult, tantra. Tantra is the study of constant change. For the physical self, the 8th house rules over death, surgeries, accidents, ‘cuts’ of every sort. For the emotional, it causes stress and separates. For the spiritual it opens up routes into the depths of the subconscious.

The 8th house also indicates the family of the spouse. The money, the wealth, resources of his/her family. Generally you do not know these things about your spouse’s family completely, so this links up with the secret nature of the 8th! Also the voice, speech, eating habits and wealth-accumulating habits of the spouse.

The 8th then indicates explorations, excavations, surgeons, shamans, tantriks, secret financial activities, scientific researchers, secret criminals, etc type of professions, which thrive on skill and an awareness of suspicions, intuitions and sensations from the internal.

8th house Dushamsthan

The planets occupying this house often incline an interest in the occult depending on their nature. Too many or strong planets here would indicate reduced interest in philosophy or organised religion and a deeper interest in spirituality or the occult. Their Dasha periods/ significant transits will be quite happening times. e.g. Saturn here will indicate it is the karma to do so, a Mercury will grant the boldness, necessary logic and skills to do so, Venus will grant the tantric knowledge and esoteric wisdom related to the occult etc. A special case would be the Moon placed in the 8th house.

If this house is vacant then look out for the transits or the dasha periods of the owner planet, this would be the time which would trigger its potential. This 8th house ruler is a very important agent of change in your life. Track his movement and the aspects of life he controls. He will cause sudden uncontrollable changes wherever he may be at birth or go in transit. But if you understand that he ‘transforms’ not ‘dissolve’, you might understand his actions better.

If by chance, you have the same planet ruling your 8th from ascendant and the 8th from Moon, be careful during his periods, e.g. Libra Ascendant with Moon in Pisces, Venus is ascendant lord, 8th lord, and lord of 8th house from Moon, thus the Venus mahadasha (20yr long) and his antardasha within other planets Mahadashas will be especially transformative. Similarly for Aries ascendent with Moon in Virgo be careful with your Mars periods. If you can navigate this period successfully you will benefit beyond imagination else the physical and subconscious body both will suffer.

It is important to remember that the 8th house is Shock and Change. How you go with the energy and participate in the process will determine how effective the 8th will be. A strong ascendant sign, ascendant lord and birth Moon are very important in this respect. If you are attached to your identity or have Saturn-like resistance to things unfolding around you, you will suffer more. And then is all about perception, if you are prepared for the change you will not be so shocked and if you are aware in advance you will not feel the sudden-ness. So the intensity of these events is reduced by a strong yet adaptable personality.

To navigate the 8th you will have to think like a hunter in the jungle, the shadows can contain a prey or a predator, so be prepared!

Balancing karma from the ancestors

Sometimes I think we learn the deepest lessons through negative examples. You do not get the love of a mother, so the lesson is to understand how it feels like and learn. So that when you become a mother yourself, you decide that you cannot let your child feel that same ‘non-love’ as you did.

Can you rise above your personal bad experience and give better to others? This is the final test.

Balancing karma from the ancestors

I have seen several examples in my practice where children were ignored or bullied by their parents and there was no one who believed them. These children grew up with deep seated traumas. Accepting that parental neglect is the root of the present problem is very difficult. Especially in Indian society where we consider our parents divine. So here are a few ways..

  1. Let go emotionally. Take care of them as per your personal sense /conscience and do your duty as a child, maybe take them to a doctor etc. But forgive them (read this) and emotionally stop expecting love from them. They have failed in their duty as a mother/father, but you should not fail in your duty as a child in their old age. Else this cycle will continue in your next life too. Do that much for them as much as your conscience requires. Remember you are doing this so that you can set yourself free.
  2. Transfer your longing and emotions for a mother/father to your favourite deity/Universe or your higher Self. You are your own mother/father. Understand that you have taken birth because of your own wishes. These parents are for this one life time. You have been born so many times, you have had so many parents. You yourself are your own creator. Your actions/karma have given birth to you.
  3. Love yourself, you are the Ultimate yourself. But now go out and buy that icecream, the one your mom never brought for you, and as you eat it feel the satisfaction. Give yourself gifts, tiny indulgences which you wanted as a child. You might think you are an adult now what will you do with a pack of stickers? But holding those stickers in your hand will heal.
  4. If you know Reiki you can use the sequence, Hon sha zhe sho nen, cho ku re, dia ko mu, sei hi ki, dia ko mu, cho ku re, Hon sha zhe sho nen, to go back in time/space and love your self as a child. Use sei he ki strongly to love and relax your child self. Do this before you sleep for 21 days.
  5. If you do not know Reiki then just relax, think of your child self, visualise picking up that child, kissing it, telling it that its all ok and you love it. This may sound silly but it helps, on a very deep level. The simplest things work. Do this for 21 days.
  6. And finally enjoy your own child’s childhood with him. Do all those tiny things you wanted your mom/dad to do with you. And as your child laughs with joy, feel the happiness within you. You have aced your test! You are a good parent, your child loves you and you have broken the cycle of karma.

Balancing karma from the ancestors

You take birth in a family, as a ‘soul group’ to clear off the karma together. There is always some karma linked to the mother/father/ancestors. And we are all rebalancing continuously. When someone goes against his own conscience and commits crimes like abusing and torturing living beings, being intentionally cruel, stealing, cheating, lying, breaking up relationships, etc very high intensity ‘moral wrongs’, it lays very severe bindings on the soul. The Karma has been created by actions so deeply against the Dharm that he has suffer through a portion of the misery that he has inflicted on others and then only some can be repaid by mantra and other energy. These are called pitr dosha/problems due to ancestors. If you are going through a rough patch and you chance upon some ritual that makes sense to you, maybe it is time. Now to rebalance and for the finishing touch.

This is ‘Tarpan vidhi’, is done by the men, the oldest male in the family does this, not women. You repay the energy due to your ancestors using the mantras of the Tarpan. The most effective way of rebalancing pitr related karma. In doing so the mantras act upon your own astral self and set things right within you too. If you are a woman suffering in such a family, when your husband/father/brother/son does this Tarpan, the energy is transferred to you too. The best is to go to Brahmakapal, Badrinath, Uttarakhand, India and do a Tarpan Vidhi. There are several pandits there who specialise in this type of ritual. There are other places too in India which are well-known for this ritual, but the best is Brahmakapal, the river Sarasvati flows here very briefly before it vanishes as a undersurface flow. This can be done at any time during the year. If you cannot travel so far then you can contact your local pandit and perform it at the nearest place with flowing water or the seashore.

If this is also not possible and you are sure of the power of your thought and intention, you can do this brief ritual yourself during the Mahalaya Amavasya/no moon day (will be in Sept/Oct, both Sun and Moon in Virgo as per Vedic calendar).

  • For the man of the house, take a coconut, remove the husk so that it looks like this, a small tuft left at the place where it has its ‘eyes’. It should have water in it, shake it to check. Keep it in your altar/puja ghar, put some flowers, turmeric, vermillion etc on it, pray to your favourite deity and your higher self, request help. Intend sincerely, very strongly that karma gets balanced. Face south, hold it in your hands, pray to your ancestors and then dash the coconut on the ground so that it breaks. It requires strength and it has to break in one dash. Do not eat this, dispose it in some place, under some tree where no one will step on it or in the water .
  • Balancing karma from the ancestors
  • Then cook food, the woman of the house has to do this, one dish made of pumpkin, one kheer (rice/milk/sugar – dish), one-curd/rice and any other vegetarian items that you can cook with your hands. Lay these offerings on a banana leaf/or a clean dish with a cup of water in the open. Face south, pray to your ancestors and sprinkle some black sesame seeds on it. Request your ancestors to have this food/energy and then leave this Martya-lok/our dimension and go to their Pitra-lok. Intend disconnection, turn back, do not look at the dish and come inside your house.
  • Black ravens come to eat this food charged with these energies never other birds. If black ravens eat it your work is done.
  • (If there is any other ritual in your culture where you offer food/energy etc to your ancestors, perform that too.)

If you dream of your ancestors who have passed away, you recognise them from the photographs or they tell you their name in your dreams. Or you see black ravens around your house. It is a message from the ancestors. In this case, the easiest option is making a chapati or a ball of raw kneaded wheat dough mixed with jaggery and feeding this to a cow with your hands.

Now the other way, doing charity, both men and women can do this. I have written about this in my earlier posts. E.g. distribute sweets/fruits at an orphanage, stand in the background anonymously and observe the caretakers distributing the food to the children. Be compassionate, intend happiness for these children in hard circumstances, bless them with your heart and come away. Thus you will also heal.

And finally do some pujas, auspicious rituals, fire rituals, anything in which your entire family is involved. e.g the Bhagwat katha, Satyanarayan puja, Chandi Homa, Rudrabhishek, etc. These are positive energies and general pandits can do it easily. Do this in your house so that the energy from the mantras enters your house and cleans off the negativity.

Now how about some spiritual practice for yourself? At least 15 mins a day? You can recite the Gayatri mantra 108 times. Or do Dhyan. Or even self-reiki, or surround yourself with pran? I have written about so many tiny activities you can do, just do some practice regularly everyday. Give yourself these 15 mins so that you can heal yourself deeply.

Balancing karma from the ancestors

Marak, rulers of the 2nd and 7th houses

Marak/Marakesh is an important concept in Jyotish. Marak is the planet/s which decides the timing of exit from the physical body, death. The situation of death is defined by the 8th house and the conditions active at the moment of death are seen from the power of the Moksh trikon, but timing is from the Marak. The planetary lord of the 2nd house and the 7th house of the ascendant is the Marak planet for the chart.

The 8th house and the bhavat bhavam of the 8th i.e. the 3rd house are called the Ayush sthana, houses of longevity. The twelfth house counted from these two houses are thus the 7th and the 2nd houses, these are the Marak/death determining houses.

Then there are natural marak planets i.e. Saturn, Mars, Ketu and Rahu. These three can on their own cause physical death without much assistance from other planets but its quite rare. They need to be connected in some way to the 2nd or 7th houses or their lords. Physical death is an extremely significant phenomenon, it is not determined by a single placement but by a synergy of the entire chart’s energies as a whole. The Mahadasha or antardasha ruled by the Marak, or a particularly important transit of the Marak planets can serve as the final break point.

Marak, rulers of the 2nd and 7th houses

So why the rulers of 2nd and 7th houses? These are auspicious houses, so why should they be used to judge the time of death. Death is not considered auspicious, or is it?

House 2 – You all know quite a bit of astrological stuff by now, so what all does the 2nd house stand for? Think a bit and read on.

  • 2nd house is the storehouse. You, in your life gain experiences of several sorts. Also you accumulate several types of stuff. These are your assets, the treasures of your personality and your environment (defined by the 1st house). These are ‘collected’ in the 2nd house. You finish collecting all that you have decided on, your treasuries are full. Now what? You leave! The body cannot take in anything anymore, you have completed your targets. Saturation.
  • Now the natural ruler of the 2nd is Venus. He is also rules relationships at every level.  Relationship with the act of death naturally ruled by Mars of Scorpio 8th house. The 2nd house here is one-half of the yoke, the other being the 8th house (it is counted seventh from 2nd). When you finish accumulating your assets in the 2nd house, the 8th house will trigger the fast terrifying transformations of your assets, take these stores and use them in a balanced manner, converting your physical identity to that of the astral. Emptying them and making them ready for the next rebirth.

House 7 – After reading this about the 2nd house, I am sure you can work out why 7th house ruler can also indicate the time to exit the physical body.

  • The 7th house rules bargains, partnerships, balance and equatable sharing. Throughout your life you are actively involved in several kinds of partnerships. Every relationship can be viewed through the lens of a ‘partnership’, where both partners gain fairly. So what happens when you reach your goals on partnerships and gains from them?
  • We take birth to re-balance karma, no other reason. ‘Balance’ is the reason for this life in this body. We decide on how much of this karma-balance-target at the moment of birth. This moment of birth is the 1st house, and the 7th is the other part of the yoke.
  • Once you achieve the goals, it is time to set new targets, i.e. leave the old physical body and take on a new one.
  • The stuff you have in the 2nd house also represents the secret gains from the 7th house (it is the eighth when counted from the 7th house). It represents how you have used the energy of the 7th to change the status of your karmic-balance.
  • The natural ruler here is also Venus, as he rules the 7th house of the zodiac, Libra.
  • Venus is the real moksh-karak, when yoked to the vitality of Mars he can even grant you Moksh if the time is right. When all your karma is balanced by the assets you have gained in your this incarnation. This is one of the reasons Moksh is considered to be the primary function of Venus and not any other planet.

Marak, rulers of the 2nd and 7th houses

If in the horoscope the Moon sign is more powerful than the Ascendant sign then check out the 2nd and 7th house lords counted from this Moon sign, they can also act as Maraks.

Then there are those periods in life where life becomes unbearable. There are catastrophic changes and traumas which makes one want to end it all. But these are not periods where death will occur. These hard times are related to the following planets, their Vimshottari Mahadasha /antardasha or significant transits. The power of the planet to give positive or negative results should always be examined before arriving at a conclusion. And then as always look for patterns not single placements.

  • Lord of the 12th house counted from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Loss of emotional support and comfort, extreme loneliness and grief. Separation from love and loved ones. A deep desire to move into the astral dimensions permanently.  This causes a desire to leave the physical body frame. The spirit wants to dissolve and separate.
  • Lord of the 8th house counted from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Again this planet cannot confer physical death but traumatic catastrophic changes which are quite death-like. Transformations of personality in every way, positive and negative. Sudden wealth, legacies, accidents, surgery, magic, tantric stuff, divorce etc, but never actual physical death.

The length of a life is not important the intensity is. Mars rules intensity and Saturn rules endurance. Mars is always willing to change, transform and he has the capacity to generate enough resources to facilitate his fast and furious movements. Saturn is slow, he moves slowly generating his resources and the processes which he rules over linger on. Mars, the ruler of life and death is also the natural partner of Venus, the ‘natural’ ruler of 2nd and 7th, the ‘natural’ marakesh. And Venus is Saturn’s best friend too.

If the chart shows the influence of Mars over this process of physical death, it will be very fast. If Saturn has links to physical death then it will be slow and often via a lingering illness. If you have Mars and Saturn both involved with your 8th house then be prepared for the long haul, a long life has been granted to you. If benefics aspect they will give a graceful and dignified transition.

The timing of death is the Marak. The situation of death is the 8th house. What happens during the death process is the Moksh-trikon together. But do remember that longevity is calculated differently. ie If the longevity is shown to be long then Marak’s periods in young life will not cause physical death. So if you are interested in physical death, first calculate longevity. Sometimes you get a case where the person is enduring a prolonged illness. You look at the chart and see that though the Marak’s periods are on, the life span allotted to the chart is not yet complete. Such a typical time frame gives ‘sickness’, this sickness may manifest as extreme sadness (astral body suffers) or actual sickness (physical body suffers). The pran-link between the jivatma/soul and the body/robot is thinned down. The soul has not yet decided to leave. In such a case, prayers and healing (on spiritual, physical, emotional and mental levels) can convince the soul to stay on and continue in happiness.

Back to Venus, the morning star! The natural owner of the 2nd and 7th signs thus the natural Marak. Venus always fascinates me. He is Maya, cannot be determined if he is real or an illusion. He is beautiful, balanced, he knows the value of stuff, he grants the deepest knowledge, he decides the time when your body has exhausted itself. He tells you it is time to get a new life! He tests you, he does not grant his wisdom so easily. He defines relationships, the most important one being your relationship with your own self. He is perfection! A philosopher might say that the family/ 2nd house and the spouse/ 7th house are the things one most loves and thus these are the ones which destroy him in the end!

Prediction of Suicidal tendencies

I had written separate posts on depression, addictions and psychiatric problems. And strangely there is a lot of interest on these serious topics related to mental health! Seems that Mercury has this current age of ours firmly in his grip. We live in a world ruled by communications. And most of our problems seem to be rooted in mis-communications and mis-interpretations. Sometimes these mental games become so severe that a person takes the extreme step of consciously ending the physical existence, commits suicide.

For determining suicidal tendencies in a chart, we need to examine mental and emotional factors and also those factors which actually power the actual action of suicide/death.

  • Check out the planets placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses from the ascendant, 6th is the house of disease, enemies, debts and slavery. 8th is the house of traumatic forceful transformations of surgeries, accidents, magic, secrets and death. 12th is the house of the sub-conscious, the astral and the loss of the boundaries of physical realities. These 3 houses from the ascendant are the houses of turmoil and can wreck havoc in a persons life, make it intolerable to continue living.
  • Then the 3rd house from the birth Mercury shows where the thoughts loop and repeat again and again, till it becomes maddening and intolerable. Eg. A Moon placed here will color all thoughts in the emotional context.
  • Weak planets are those placed in the signs of their enemies, or aspected/conjoint their enemies or with malefic planets. Also debilitated planets, combust or retrograde planets have modified energies which give different and unexpected results.
  • Ascendant sign or Ascendant lord afflicted with malefics or weak or badly placed.
  • And because death is death, the mode and circumstances of death is to be seen from the 8th house and the timing of death from the lords of the 2nd and 7th houses from the ascendant.
  • Transits will be important too as the timing of the self inflicted death event will be connected to the positions of the transiting planets.

Since suicide is a termination of the entire physical manifestation lets examine the role of all the planets in this extreme step of complete identity loss.

Soul mates and twin flames

Sun – The Sun is the Soul, the ego, self-image, divine intelligence and the spark of the divine animating us. A strongly placed Sun in the chart supports your will to live, your self-worth and self-confidence and you will never have to face psychiatric problems. Even if your birth Moon or Mercury is badly placed, a strong Sun will pull you through. A weak Sun will reduce your resilience to bounce back after mishaps, you are less willing to fight for yourselves and allow the situations to carry you without any resistance. In such a case a badly placed Mercury or Moon will aggravate the problems till you feel there is only one option to get out. The sense of false empowerment that results in tragedy.

Moon – is the mind. we draw our emotional comfort and stability from the moon. A comfortable moon located in good houses and in aspects of benefics ensures a healthy emotional context. If the moon is badly placed it can cause emotional trauma. The nature of the event which can force the extreme step is likely to denial of emotional comfort, support and stability or betrayal from the persons who were expected to provide emotional support. If the Moon and Mercury are severely afflicted together with a damaged Sun and there is zero support from any of the other planets, it can push for the final step generally by drowning.

Mercury – is your analytical process. You have an experience, you link it with your past database of experiences and only then can you conclude from it, this is Mercury in action. Thinking, perceptions and logic. Mercury in a bad place will destroy the analytical thought patterns. The person will take only the negative perceptions from his life experiences and ignore the positives. Over time this mindset will lead him to conclude that life is a pain and not worth living anymore. Thus the final step will be thought of as a viable option.

Mars – is the natural ruler of the 8th sign of the zodiac and is the force who rules over our life and death. 8th house is the house of forceful transformations of identity, death and rebirth. He is also the expression of the Will. If the Will sends instructions for self destruction the energies of Mars will follow. Weak Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury together is very toxic for the personality. Mars is very important as he will power the actual act of suicide. Such a person might even take up a stupid challenge to do some dangerous activity which will result in his instantaneous death, a type of suicide! If the person is depressed due to other planet aspects, he might try to die by burning the body, slitting wrists, bullets or electric shocks.

Venus – If the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury link up with an equally weak Venus, the person can contemplate committing suicide as a result of broken relationships, betrayal in partnerships and mental trauma caused by lovers or spouses. He can argue with his wife on some silly reason, leave the house and commit suicide. However he would prefer a painless death by sleeping pills or drugs.

Jupiter – Jupiter/Guru is the philosophical base of your life. He controls the Dharma, the theories on which you live. As the natural lord of the 12th house, he controls the astral/sub-conscious and the states after the physical body-death. He can attract a person to the after-death state. A suicide powered by a damaged Jupiter, linked with weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, will show a typical wish to find the better place in the after-death. He is not bothered about his living state as such, the after-death attracts him and he wants to get there asap. Example is ending the body in a pseudo-religious cult practice.

Saturn is connected to longevity, maturity and ageing. If he is associated with the 8th house in any way he can promote long life. But if he is weak, he tends to give an early death or constant illnesses, the body does not endure or does so with great difficulty. A strong Saturn is necessary for a strong body. A weak Saturn linked to an afflicted Mercury and Moon can confer early death by suicide, often by getting under a train or in the road-way. The nature of the precipitating event is likely to be connected to social pressures and shame at being caught in a socially embarrassing position.

Rahu – Rahu is the rule breaker the North Node and his main character is that he respects no boundaries. He is massively ambitious and full desires which can never be satisfied. His constant motif is a over-reach followed by a spectacular fall. This pattern keeps on repeating throughout and if the mind, will and intellect is weak the person can contemplate suicide. This also will be a public spectacle as per Rahu’s mind-set, like jumping off high rise buildings or suicide bombers, or sometimes by injecting poisons in the blood.

Ketu – the South Node is the agent of dissociation himself, he dissolves boundaries. This mindset will prefer to dissociate from the living state because he has no interest. Apathetic to Life itself. We hear some one who was doing well and ok generally suddenly secretly committing suicide for absolutely no reason. He may not even leave a suicide note! Ketu can confer suicide by consuming poison, in secret or in pseudo-religious cults. He may want to take his life at pilgrimage sites believing that it will grant Moksh.

Thus for a death by suicide prediction, the basic combination is a weak Sun, in combination with an afflicted Mercury, weak Moon and at least one weak other planet. The other planets also contribute their bit in pushing the person over the brink. If the chart has only the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, the person can get depressive thoughts and think of suicide but wont be able to act on them. This action of actual suicide is determined by the 4th weak planet which gets linked to these 3.

If you come across such a chart in your friends/family circle, remember that this person can be traumatized and pushed, till ending of the physical existence will seem to be a viable option. He needs counselling and be taught to take remedial action when his thoughts begin to loop on himself. Best option which I have seen is, to get such a person hooked on to a Mantra. If he can be made to listen to the Vishnu Sahastranama stotra once a day as a routine, it is a good 22min long Stotra very energy-rich, enough to wash the mind off any negative tendencies. Or any other Sanskrit stotra which is at least 10 mins long. He can listen to it on the way to work or while driving, it will help immensely in controlling his mind and emotions.

Ultimately from an energy perspective and what I have seen from my access to the sub-conscious, if a person commits suicide once, he has to repeat this act in the next 7 lives. The next birth occurs as per the mental/emotional/spiritual state of the person at the moment of death. But in a suicide it is very different. The astral body registers the suicide’s energy as an aberration, I have written a bit on what happens at the moment of death in my post on the Moksh trikon here. Also the impressions are stored in the astral body which can be seen from the D-9 navamsha chart, this D-9 chart changes over lives, very slowly. So to completely remove the impression of the suicide event from the astral body, it takes 7 subsequent lives. Taking one’s own life intentionally is against the deepest Conscience/ Antaratma! It is disrespecting the Love that we receive from the Universe/ Parabrahma. It is an unimaginable torture and from a spiritual perspective pushes you back several steps, recovery from this act consumes the energies of the next 7 lives, it is not worth it!
