Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

Moon is our entire self, the sum of our past, present, parallel and future selves. He is the astral, emotional and ultimately the spiritual self too. He is said to be watery in nature but the real meaning here, is that he flows. Life is a flowing experience. The Sanskrit word, ‘Jivan’ means ‘water’ also means ‘life’ and ‘connected to the individual soul. Moon in your energy system, rules over the Ajnya chakra. He decides how the pran/vital energy you pull in from the Universe is allocated. He builds your body/mind. We Indian astrologers/ Jyotishi-s consider the Moon and his placement to be extremely important.

The signs of the zodiac are divided into fiery, airy, earthy and watery. Of these the signs Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn are the earthy ones. These make up the natural Arth trikon, this triangle gives meaning to our life. All the things that one requires for a comfortable secure life and those which give meaning to life are represented by Arth trikon signs. In this trikon, the three signs are sequentially still, dual-natured, moveable. (There are 4 aims in life. Dharm is the foundation of life and right action. Arth is the meaning and all the things which give life a meaning. Kaam is the desires which drive the life. And finally Moksh, release and liberation.)

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

If you want to ace your Arth trikon, you have to consider all the three signs as they are interlinked to each other very deeply. The 9/5 axis operates here, each is the foundation/creativity of the other two. If you are a birth Moon in any of the earthy signs do analyse at the other two signs for support. Of these, the first two signs, Taurus and Virgo fall in the first half of the zodiac. You are focussed on your own self, the energies are directed more to the development of the personality. Capricorn falls in the second half of the zodiac where you give your energy outwards.

  • In Taurus you focus on your close family, personal history, family wealth. How you present yourself in company, small intimate groups etc. You want to get more resources for your own self not for public welfare! Here you build your perfect body/mind. You are built strongly, physically dominating in any setting. Getting you change your mind is a difficult task.
  • Virgo is the service that you are required to perform. The focus is entirely on rebalancing the personal karma with pin-point awareness. You are very wary of creating new karma so can come across as being shy and self-deprecating. Here you understand and act on your sense of karma. This is also a type of building activity where you act to rebalance your karmic debts. Quick thinking but always rooted in solid logic and deep analysis. (Ever really seen a doctor at work? He is focussed on the patient completely, but it is essentially an abstract interest, he wants to diagnose and cure, not for the patient but for his own mental satisfaction. He is internally aware of his duty/karma of serving the patient. But if the patient does not want to listen, he does not bother much. He has done his duty. Now to take the prescribed medicines or not is the patient’s free choice.)
  • Capricorn is where you finally emerge into the larger society. You face shifting goal posts here. Society is in continuous evolution and you feel emotionally validated when you contribute to its regulation. So you are always in movement in tandem with your organisation. An excellent professional, you evolve with your organisation.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

If you are born with the Moon in these signs, you are highly sense-oriented, you emotionally require comforting material stuff around you which you can see and touch. Luxurious clothes, jewellery, art, food, patients, medicines, people, money etc. You have very typical habits which you change with great difficulty as you are emotionally linked to security and stability. And because the overall orientation is towards the material, you require material security preferably a hefty bank balance.

The earthy signs are able to think dispassionately. You are analytical and see logic and the practical applications, hard-working. Desire is for order and method! (I think Hercule Poirot must have been a Moon-Virgo!). Things on purely emotional or imaginative basis do not satisfy your mind. Strangely you come across as being lazy too, but this is when you have temporarily satisfied you need for creating structure and are now expecting to be pampered. Recognition is necessary for all earthy signs. Taurus expects to be pampered by his loved ones. Virgo expects self-recognition from his own mental processes. Capricorn craves social recognition.

General health remains good as the body/mind prefers to remain stable and resists the changes caused by disease. But one thing is common all three sings suffer from digestion related problems. So take care of your diet and exercise. Indigestion is a physical indication that you have not absorbed/understood the things you have achieved. You appreciate the visual, sensual, analytical, material, social angles but miserably fail to appreciate the emotional aspect. If you are a birth moon in an earthy sign, you have to remember that satisfaction linked to material things is not complete unless you feel the emotions also. So try to feel. And if you keep on accumulating worldly goods, you will be perceived to be greedy and materialistic.

Productive, dependable, you create tangible results. Pragmatic, practical and efficient, you start any project with a solid foundation. Your mind is more linked to tangible things, it may be beautiful vases or whatever. It does not imagine or visualise much and you often suffer because of that. Try to be creative too. Being too rigid will ultimately stifle. Your Moon requires repetitive cycles. Try if you can combine the energies and enter a repetitive cycle of growth and consolidation. These three signs are all Vaat in nature. You cause movement and this movement is based on the security of a solid foundation. Thus if you do manage to create something it endures. So when you start a project, make its foundations as solid as you can.

You do not have an understanding of emotions so can easily hurt people. And you do not understand that you have hurt them! These people are often in the background ready to sabotage you. Beware as your professional behaviour and successes will create jealous and envious enemies around you who will attack you purely on the basis of their emotional contexts. You are not a team player and thus your more ambitious projects fail. Lacking imagination, you fail to appreciate that there will be problems in the project as everyone thinks and more importantly feels differently. You have raw power but lack in team work. You have to inspire your team-mates not compete or keep secrets from them. Pettiness, non-communication, hoarding/holding back important information, getting stuck in the mundane stuff, this always causes problems. Your desire for stability can easily translate to boring and predictable. Serious by temperament. Sometimes calculated risks are important and so is depending on someone else. Step back and look at the bigger picture instead of getting stuck in details. Do this once in a while with your bigger projects. Listen to the opinion of your watery partner, this will also reduce the stress on you.

All these three earthy signs find their preferred partner in the watery signs of Scorpio, Pisces and Cancer, sequentially. Soil and water is a highly potent combination, so use your spouse/business partner’s energies. Often your spouse will be the imaginative one and you will turn his ideas into reality. If you can work with your loved one/business partner, both of you will succeed beyond your combined dreams. Your dreamy spouse loves you beyond limits while the solid you offers him unconditional protection. If you both go with this, your relationship will be mutually satisfying. Partners should be compatible not similar, each filling each others blanks, presenting a unified front against others.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

These three signs are ruled by Venus, Mercury and Saturn. All three look on Moon with some animosity. Venus dislikes his need based loving. Mercury is his teenaged son (that says it all). And Saturn with his restrictive behaviour creates fear for the Moon. So there remains a sense of conflict and fear in the background of these earthy minds. See if you can resolve this, to make more sense of your personality.

Then each of these signs are composed of 3 lunar mansions, Nakshatra, of these

  • The first one is owned by the Sun, this lies partly in the sign preceding this one
  • The second one lies completely in this sign and is owned by the Moon.
  • The third lunar mansion is owned by Mars and it lies partly in the sign following this one.

Now these planetary owners are as per the Vimshottari dasha system, but can be used as a valuable pointer on how the time periods controlled by Sun, Moon and Mars will unfold. The Vimshottari ruler of the birth nakshatra is very important as he always has a very subtle but deep impact on the Moon. This is the Vimhottari planetary dasha you were born in and spend your baby-life in. Whatever events and environment was created by this planet has a lifetime impact on you. If you want to know more about innermost self, do read up on the Nakshatra devata/deity of your birth Moon lunar mansion.

Now there is an interesting thing. Moon himself rules the three nakshtras, Rohini, Hasta and Shravan, and these belong to the earthy signs. Thus we should appreciate Moon’s existential character is best reflected in these earthy, Vaishya, Arth trikon rashi/signs.

Moon essentially Builds.

And on very material levels, the biggest resource that we have is our soil. Soil is formed very slowly over millenia and without it we wouldn’t have our civilisation. Water removes the rigidity of the soil and brings it into use. Earth is passive and only when energized by movement does it yield its gifts. So Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn, has enormous potential to actually yield results. This just depends on the extent of your awareness and ability to work.

Moon in the earthy signs, Taurus Virgo Capricorn

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

Venus owns the 2nd and the 7th signs/rashi of the Zodiac, Taurus/Vrushabh and Libra/Tula. Thus he is also the natural owner of the 2nd and 7th houses/bhava of the chart. He is the agent/Karak of treasuries and partnerships, of everything that adds value and validation to you. Venus is all the ways you feel good about yourself.

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

Venus is the Ruler of Taurus

This Venus personality has to maintain the resources of value in every sense, from the physical, spiritual, emotional, histories and songs. And he is very good at increasing his collections, hoards and treasuries of every type. He is the soul of every party and knows how to get the mood going. This Venus may sound easy-go-lucky but has an important role in maintaining the social norms and he is very serious about it. He is the custodian of the traditions, knowledge and stories of the family culture. He will resist every change which will unbalance. But his resistance is also beautiful and balanced, the iron fist in a velvet glove. At the very basic levels, he feels good about himself in the society when he has money!

This Venus can get so attached to money and the things that money can buy that he can subsume his personality to these things. He then considers his brotherhood and neighbourhood to be his biggest assets. He is interested in the stability of his homeland and also the welfare of his mother and maternal relatives. This Venus is quite at home with expressing his creativity and being in the public eye.  However he is susceptible to malefic evil eyes and jealousy, which are a result of being too much in the public eye. He is distrustful about equitable sharing of resources with legal partners and prefers keeping it to himself, however secret ways of increasing his assets appeal to him. With his chosen spouse he will be on good terms but there will be an undercurrent of unbalance, of complaints and stress. He is again not very interested in listening to his peers and paternal figures. His profession and actual father are very important to him though. His life philosophy will be to work hard and play hard! And he does gain through his profession and has multiple sources of income. Social status and power is the foundation of this Venus’s life and pleasure.

Attached to idea that he needs to be valuable in the eyes of the society by displaying his collections he will forget that he needs to find his own real personality first. By the time he realises that the validation he receives from society can be quite unpredictable, fleeting and erratic, it might be too late to seek his own Real Self.

Venus is the Banker in Taurus.

Venus is the Ruler of Libra

Venus in his second form is required to maintain legal and equitable partnerships of every type in every context. Personal, professional, emotional, spiritual, counselling, trading, etc, all sorts of relationships are defined by Venus. At the very basic levels he will feel good about himself if he has a good marriage. I have written a detailed post on the inherent balance of Libra here.

Libra seeks balance. Anything that is out of balance or unfair is deeply disturbing to this Venus. He is fair, impartial and quite intellectual here. He bargains and keeps track, if he has given out something he will expect fair returns. The earthy good humour of Taurus-Venus is absent here. Venus-Libra likes refined intellectual company. (I wonder does he even laugh out aloud till tears come in his eyes). His level of intellect can be so rarefied that he sometimes comes across as an intense workaholic driven personality. He is quite secretive about his own resources and his pleasures are also not in public. His favoured company is peers, patrons, religious and spiritual personalities with whom he can interact on the intellectual plane. He is on good terms with his own father and often is involved in a family business, most likely a lawyer! He likes his work and his office soon can become a home.

This Venus loves displaying his creativity in public, in front of an audience of strangers. Stage fright is simply out of the question. His children are also quite the little performers in school plays and lucky in life. His losses, diseases, debts and enemies are few on the physical plane but he suffers in secret. His partners are vigorous, physical leaders. He partners with pioneers and then follows them up creating bargains and alliances. He has few close friends and siblings with whom he connects. He can be very passionate about humanitarian ideals as long as it is fair for everyone concerned.

Venus is the Lawyer in Libra.

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

In my personal opinion Venus is even more dangerous than Saturn. Saturn is at least ‘in your face’ straightforward even, if he is going to make you balance your pending karma he will openly do it. You know you are in for a phase of hard work and stress. Saturn and Venus are also best buddies, with Saturn getting exalted in Libra.

But Venus coats every action of his with such sweetness that you never really understand what is really going on. He is the strictest teacher, Daityaguru Shukaracharya, and his karmic lessons are the most difficult because they don’t look like lessons. If you are satisfied with the validation you get from the society or your partners you will not look inside for the real spiritual validation from your Real Self/Moksh. And validation from fellow humans is very dangerous, it is erratic, changeable, un-predictable and volatile.

Back to physical life, if Venus is not in a position to give good results in your horoscope you face an inner sense of invalidation. ‘Un-worthiness’ is created. The only way to get out of this crippling feeling is to understand that you have to first realise your own self-worth! If you can generate this sense of approval, value, worthiness and appreciation for yourself at your deepest emotional/psychological levels this is forever.

If you analyse your marriage and your relationship with your loved one, you will realise that you both basically make each other feel ‘worthy’. Talking, romantic dinners, movies, travelling together, physically touching, gifts, flowers and jewellery is a way that we offer validation to our loved one and expect the same validation in return. If we do not receive this in return we get dissatisfied with the relationship and seek a way out. Else if validation turns into devaluation and criticism we seek to dissolve the partnership. But there is tremendous spiritual and emotional energy in addition to financial, legal and social aspects in this alliance. Thus the dissolution process affects the emotions and spiritual stability of both. So what do you do after this break-up? Search for another human partner for validation or search for your inner worthiness?

In a business partnership also validation exists, the financial statements and the profits you two make together is appreciation and proof of ‘worthiness’. Once this validation is lost eg. the business makes losses you two break the partnership. There is little emotional involvement here so dissolving the partnership consists of wrapping the remaining material, financial and legal issues. Starting with a new business partner or going solo into new ventures next is also comparatively more simple.

So here is Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra. He is not so romantic as he looks. He is a Guru, so he will by the best means possible take you onward on your spiritual journey. He has infinite patience too, so will wait patiently till you ask for his real gifts. Only then will he show you the Ultimate which is behind his facade of beautiful pleasures.
