Moon in Capricorn, Builder of society

Capricorn is Makar in Sanskrit. Makar is a massive sea animal of the deep oceans, maybe mythological or extinct, it is also considered to be a dolphin in modern times. Either way Makar is a very auspicious animal, if you are born with your birth Moon in Capricorn sign you are a formidable personality.

Moon is the ‘created you’ in every way possible. In Capricorn he builds a ‘you’, best suited to the society you live in. He grants you energy to dominate the society if you so wish. In this Moon placement, the focus is on the most material things, work, profession, career, money, salary, social reputation and social mobility. If the society survives you also survive, so you are focussed on the building, preservation and protection of the social structure.

Capricorn is an earthy sign ie it is a Vaishya. The Vaishyas are people who create movement. Trade is nothing but a movement of goods and money. A fair price is sought and paid so that the system remains balanced. A true trader never tries to exploit, neither his source not his customer. This sign is moveable/ chara. This means that energies associated here are always in motion, in change. It is Tamasic by nature, ie its energies are dense, enveloping but still. But once moved out of their stillness, these Tamasic energies are very powerful, like the jaggernaut, unstoppable. Then the sign is considered to be of the ‘vaat’ nature, it causes movement. So Capricorn is a potent mix of the still and the moveable. This sign when occupied by the Moon enters repetitive cycles of growth and consolidation which allow sustained and eternal growth. It is one of the three signs of natural Arth trikon, it signifies the things which being meaning to life.

Capricorn are the hardest workers. They feel emotionally comforted when they create and support society. This is a patriotic, conservative, conventional, law-abiding and yes, an ‘emotional’ citizen. You offer your emotions, your entire existence, ie your Moon to the society you live in. In return you expect the society to honor you, raise you and respect you. And this actually does happen. Saturn the ruler of Capricorn is the fairest and strictest teacher. If you have worked sincerely, he does bestow his appreciation.

So if you are a Moon in Capricorn you are a builder of nations.

You are not classically beautiful, you are built for endurance. The body frame is slender, typical with prominent bones, eg a defined jawline, long arms and legs, you might be taller than average. Ambitious, you are focussed on your profession/ business. You always seem and are mature for your age. Rules are important to you, so is discipline, you tend to follow a step-wise plan to success. You rise slowly but steadily. Especially after middle-age you tend to accumulate wealth and are financially comfortable in your old age. Very aware of your balance-sheet, you know exactly how much you earn/spend. A level headed businessman who keeps track of every rupee. You do not spend unnecessarily. (Your friends can think you are being stingy!) You never borrow/ lend money, and your investments are all carefully researched and always profitable. You are aware about your obligations and generally try to fulfil them.

The voice is not very pleasing and you tend to argue. Not witty but ponderous. Confident, you openly show your likes/dislikes and opinions. You come across as humourless, boring, pedantic, stiff and irritating. The reason behind this is that cannot convey passion in your voice. When one is deeply convinced about something, the general expectation is that there should be passion or logic or an emotional link with it. You cannot display this link so your expression grates. But you are fond of music, if trained you can sing or play an instrument. So the next time you listen to someone sing, do try to understand how emotions are expressed. If you can bring emotions into your communication, you will be even more successful.

You should be careful of what you speak/do when working in a group/team. Cooperating with others is essential at times, this is professional behaviour, so do try. Younger siblings, extended family, extended neighbourhood can be a source of conflict. Be careful if you speculate on the stock market or gamble. In your childhood, there must have been undercurrents of animosity between your mother and father at some level. Examine the individual horoscope for more on this, in case there are impressions which spill over in adult-hood.

Religion is an out-of-syllabus topic for Capricorn-Moon. You are so materially focused that you are not very involved in religion, metaphysics, philosophy, occult, spiritual etc. You identify with your birth father completely and have deep conflicts with the spiritual father. You might profess to belong to the religion your family/ society follows but at heart you do not believe in it. Neither do you believe in astrology or divination. You believe only in those things which you see with your eyes and touch with your hands.

The karmic partner of this sign is Cancer, Moon’s own sign. You are quite practical and methodical so do read on what Cancer really signifies (I have written a lot about Cancer and the Moon). Cancer is your mirror, if you can bring some of its qualities in your life it will be help you balance. Moon always allows the other planets to influence him ie allows them to use his energies. To make use of this placement you have to understand what the Moon really is. There is a misconception that Moon is all about emotions, it is not true. Moon is all your resources, all your experiences that you have gained in all your past lives. He is formidable.

Then your marriage (or love affairs) are strange mixture of passion and practicality. There is often a significant age gap between you and your spouse. The spouse is more delicate in health and largely a homemaker. She is not too concerned about social status or public visibility either and expects you to protect her. She is also quite patriotic and socially aware, so there are no conflicts here. But you might create issues by being miserly at home. If she likes buying pretty things and decorating the house, let her do it. It is her domain. Children are few and you are interested in caring for them.

Karma is the actions from your past which require re-balancing now. In this life you have chosen to resolve the karma which you owe to numerous people in huge chunks. eg a King owes to his subjects, so when he rules he serves each one of his subjects by providing for each one of them. You will get heavy responsibilities in life and you are equipped to perform them. At whatever level you work, you will be successful in time. Your profession will involve people, structures, government, large organisations, people’s movements, managing large diffuse groups etc. Your actions are going to affect several. If you ever feel over-worked do remember this and feel satisfied that you are working off a huge karmic load. In extreme cases, this sign can go to any extent for money and social recognition. (That background of abstract fear!). But before doing so, remember that Capricorn is ruled by Saturn himself. If you go against your conscience, you will suffer badly.

As a child you were not very strong with more than normal child-hood diseases affecting you. In adult-hood, diseases of the bones, body-frame, teeth and nerves are possible. Take special care of your knees. However whatever the problem is, you endure. Longevity is very good. Heart problems are possible in later life. Avoid eating cold foods and protect your body from the cold, this will ensure better health for a life-time. There is a hidden fear in the mind, but because you are so practical and pragmatic no one, not even you, believe that you can be afraid. But Moon associated with the Saturn in any way, creates a background of abstract fear. Do sit down sometime and try to think/ feel about this factor, if you can resolve this you will be more balanced.

Your deepest emotional need is satisfied by a regular routine. If you are a Capricorn-Moon, you must understand that orderly normal behaviour and social comfort brings you internal security, you dislike eccentricity. If your loved one is such a Moon then do not expect too much excitement, never embarrass them in public or tease them in private, they are rather humourless. If your friends are Capricorn-Moons never borrow/lend them money and listen to their opinions if you want a completely realistic dose of ‘life’. If your boss is such, you can depend on him, but be ready to work hard and submit that project in time!

Capricorn is composed of the three Nakshatra, Uttara-ashadha, Shravan and Dhanishta. The same three planets rule over the three Nakshatras in all the earthy signs, Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn.

  • Uttara-ashadha is ruled by the Sun. You are a visionary leader, confident and convinced about your ideas and philosophy. If you take someone as a protege you will be a good peer/patron. Politically oriented thought process you desire to shine in society.
  • Shravan belongs to the Moon. Soft power. Here you are more involved in the nurturing aspect of structure. You desire to create security for the society, keep it safe. You work to ensure that the society remains in linked to its traditional and cultural mores. You might be an actual builder of homes by profession!
  • Dhanishta belongs to Mars. You are aggressive and dynamic but systematic about it. No rush of adrenalin here, but a step-wise plan to dominate. Your primary orientation is to protect your work from outside dangers. Alert to changes and decisive about taking action.

The Vimshottari Moon Mahadasha and also the sub-periods of the Moon in other planet’s Mahadasha-s are very fruitful periods.

  • For Uttara-ashadha-born the Moon mahadasha will come in your childhood, you will be building your body mainly during this period. This nakshatra falls partly in Sagittarius and partly in Capricorn. Be careful in the Sun sub periods in other planets Mahadasha-s, there will be upheaval caused by others’ and your egos during this time. If your child is Capricorn Uttara-ashadha-Moon born, you should take special care of him as a baby. He will be born in the Sun Mahadasha. Sun and Saturn do not get along at all, and this Mahadasha can trigger illness in the baby.
  • For Shravan-borns you will be born in the Moon Mahadasha. This period will be intensive in ‘building’. You will be building your body and your chakra-system during this time.
  • (And for the Dhanishtha-born, the Moon Mahadasha will come at the very end of life if you live to be exceptionally old! Most likely you will not experience it.)

In Capricorn, the infinite energy of the Moon is constricted, restricted, allocated by Saturn. He allows you only that much which you can realistically use. You are taught efficiency and effectiveness here. Moon does find this a bit difficult as his natural tendency is to spread out and shine. Here he is forced to focus, not on himself but on the faceless society. He who is fluidity himself is now required to use his energy to regulate the fluid amorphous society. This is perhaps the greatest building effort to bind fluidity by fluidity. The Moon who is always so personal now binds the society in a fabric of his making. Saturn provides the perfect environment  for this nation-building process in Capricorn.

Civilisation evolves by a mix of tradition and progress in cycles which repeat endlessly. This is Moon in Capricorn.

Depression, what does the horoscope say?

Am getting more questions related to mental problems like depression, suicidal thoughts, not fitting into the society and wanting to remain apart. It is rather worrying to see young men and women getting such emotional lows for no good reason. I have written on addictions and on psychiatric issues.

There are cycles in human society. During one ancient period, invasions were a regular feature, so I guess Mars was more important then, being alert, going with an army to kill, or being able to defend one’s home and village were important life skills. But in this cycle, my and your lives are dominated by communication, you wake up to a Whatsapp msg and sleep with your Facebook. If you don’t get enough likes on your posts, you feel uneasy and if someone writes something critical about the post, the whole day goes in depression! You read other’s thoughts, people whom you have never even met, and these posts affect you more than they logically should. You pore over every comma, full-stop and try to find meanings in every tiny word.

But then if your mom scolds you for eating junk food, you don’t even look at her. If your teachers ask you to switch off your mobiles in class, you allege ‘freedom of expression’ and get that teacher scolded from the principal. You do not value real in-depth knowledge, much less wisdom. The social structure has changed, your home has become the like-minded group of your Internet, not the physical solidity of the 4-walls. You now derive your emotional security and happiness from the virtual world. You let your these virtual groups define your personality. You find pleasure in the ephemeral, get bored and then search for new topics to pleasure you, till you feel jaded. And you value this virtual temporary stuff more than the real solid long-lasting stuff that was once the foundation of the society.

Depression, what does the horoscope say?

So you see, from the paragraph above, if you have paid attention to the keywords baby-steps for the horoscope, there is a lot you can analyse. In our world today the following have gained more importance,

Mercury – He is the agent of all sorts of communications, databases, number-crunching, juvenile chit-chat, nit-picking and details. He is a superficial adolescent spending time with same-age groups chattering, gossiping. Now attention spans even getting shorter, maturity getting lower and nervous excitement higher.

He is rapidly becoming the foremost planet of our times, so let us see what is his take on the matters of mental health. Examine just this one all-important placement, the 3rd house from the birth mercury sign. This is the place where your thoughts tangle and complicate and play with themselves till they cause mental stress. Thoughts here repeat in never-ending loops, which is not good for normal analytical reasoning. The sign, house and planet in this 3rd from mercury demand mental attention and energy. Distracted, depressed and compulsive thinking is seen from here.

Any planet placed in this 3rd from Mercury causes mental chatter. So pay special attention to this mental-energy draining location when evaluating mental stress. These planets, house, sign give their other effects in life as always, and some of these may be excellent but as far as mental processes are concerned they disrupt. Eg Saturn placed here, will give mental oppression, hard mental work, bitterness, negativity, oppression and depression. eg. Moon placed here will color every thought looping into your brain with emotion, creating anxiety, worry, fear of emotional loneliness, of losing mental/emotional stability and loss of comfort.

If this house is vacant, it is better as the mind functions without pre-conceived bias. This problem of ‘sticky’ feelings/opinions is less severe. This house has the past karma of faulty mental processes from past lives which has to be experienced and completed.

Back to analysing our current time-cycle.

Saturn – the solid hierarchical social structure as defined by Capricorn is moving more to the quick-changing similar-minded group structure as defined by Aquarius (part owned by Rahu). The more exotic is good, the more rules flouted the better, everyone making profits even better. Rahu is at his ambitious best, wanting to jump upwards, till he over-reaches and falls on his face.

Moon – the mind, which loves to flit from subject to subject. With the Internet, there is no dearth of subjects, the mind is in a whirlpool, of messages, likes, pings and hashtags, that it is getting dizzy not quite knowing where to look. Mind needs comfort and emotional security/stability, but here it gets nothing of that sort. Nothing to anchor itself in these shifting sands of the virtual world. There was a time when a mother or father meant security and love, but now these relations have stopped existing. The mind has lost its roots.

Mars – He is the vitality of the personality, but he seems to be failing in a strange way. You rarely see a person being a vital male or a female brimming with the force of his/her personality. Misshapen, fat, ill and worse, mentally weak, is what this current population is moving onto. Reproduction is also being affected, with assisted reproductive technologies and overall weaker children being born.

Jupiter – No one really bothers with his gift of deep wisdom and knowledge. Very few genuine teachers and equally few deserving students. Jupiter finds himself trumped by Mercury for the time being!

Sun – He is the source of divine intelligence and the creativity associated with it. But now creativity also seems to have been warped. From the elegance of Elvis’s songs in the past to Miley of the recent times, perhaps for a comparison?

Venus – He is capable of giving you Moksh, the final esoteric wisdom if you can transcend his pleasure-able tests. But in this world of instant gratification and zero patience, you fall in his traps of girl/boy-friends, addictions, make-up, fad-diets and superficial beauty.

Rahu – the world is abound with risky ambitions, the scale of which has gone global. Rahu’s nature is to over-extend and eventually fail. If in the past your business failed, only your close groups would know about it and you would get over it quite quickly too. Now the entire world will know about it and your past failures will be online for ever haunting you.

Ketu – Now we all are dissociated from the real world! I guess this says it all. A bit more about Ketu, the embodiment of dissociation, the agent of separation, detachment, and despair. These are the ‘pure’ results which will be of course modified as per other factors, planets, aspects, sign and house.

  • Ketu in Aries or Scorpio – appears physically passive with intermittent spurts of unpredictable aggression and violent activity. Typical passive-aggressive behaviour.
  • Ketu in Taurus or Libra – gets into escapist behaviours. Is physically active and gets into several aimless relationships with weird persons. Destruction of money, wealth and relations.
  • Ketu in Gemini or Virgo – mental confusion, anxious speech, aimless chatter, wrong analysis, querulous arguments. Interferes into the lives of others and cannot be trusted.
  • Ketu in Cancer – psychic, nervous, painfully insecure, over-sensitive, terrified of abandonment, dependant on care-givers. Prefers to remain in isolation and scared of death, loss, travel, water, in-fact scared of life.
  • Ketu in Leo – Is a joker in the guise of a king, a nutcase. Meaningless self-promotion and self-righteousness. Can get wildly excited at times and then easily offended.
  • Ketu in Capricorn or Aquarius – extremely detached. If aspects permit may get final Moksha! Normally passive with no motivation and zero interest in society and life. Wears depressing colors, may stop eating, is utterly disinterested.
  • Ketu in Sagittarius or Pisces – carries the load of global human despair. Wants to ‘help’ humans, takes to travelling to ‘help’ large scale humanitarian problems. Ineffectual and a hidden escapist.

Depression, what does the horoscope say?

This time-cycle is replete with challenges and at the foremost are the challenges posed by Mercury, the agent of thought and analysis. So if you feel despondent and depressed, open your horoscope and analyse everything to do with Mercury. Try to analyse how Mercury links up with Ketu/South node and the rest of the planetary forces. Think yourself back to yourself.

We can analyse everything if we can learn to break it down to components. Astrology, Tarot, Runes, any divination tool is about this. These tools empower, they tell you what you have sub-consciously chosen, and then give you the option to change your wish again this time by conscious efforts. These conscious efforts mean consciously working with energy, with your Self! You yourself are conscious energy.

Remember you are never helpless, you always have a choice. Your conscious Will can and does intervene. You just have to intend the Change.

Men are men and women are women

Today I went for a cultural fest in the town where I live. There was a dance and drama troupe which performed 3 dances and 1 short drama. Excellent performances all of them. But there was one performer who amazed me, the likes of which I have never seen in my life and probably never will again. The best female dancer who also performed a solo dance as female was in fact a young man! He was much more graceful than all the other female dancers and most importantly felt feminine. He was so immersed in his performance as a female dancer that he was also giving out the energies of a female in his aura. It was beyond belief, but auras do not lie. Then I saw him perform as a dashing young man in a male role in the drama and again his immersion was so complete that he was the perfect example of masculinity. I met him after his performance to congratulate him and to see his aura when he was not acting. A simple clear aura of a normal healthy young man with a girlfriend or two.

Men are men and women are women

That got me thinking, men and women are fundamentally different, never can be compared and should not be compared ever.

Men are generally more selfless when it comes to giving to the Society at large. Men are protective of the entire society as such. Men are capable of immersing themselves, even destroying themselves in the greater interests of the society. They can do anything required for the greater interests of the group, rather than their own personal family. The men are not centred around their personal selves or the children that they father. They are centred around the society they live in. The physically robust male did not have to rely on ego games and selfishness to survive. Instead they could afford to spend some of their strength in protecting persons not related to them by blood. This mindset is very deep and the core of maleness, protect the group and the individual is taken care of automatically. If a few individuals die it does not matter because the group survives. Probably this is connected to their XY DNA structure.

So a man will generally be deeply more comfortable performing activities related to greater good of the group. Abstract concepts like patriotism, long term tactics, strategies  appeal more to the male mindset. A man would be a better spymaster than a woman. And you cannot expect a man to look after the tiny things around the house.

Anonymous soldiers and even more anonymous spies and those charismatic men who lead their nations often at great personal losses are just this example. A great leader will be a man and most often a single man. He may have a family but for such a man the nation will always be more important. A Man will always be for the protection of the Society. This is a general observation.

It is in the genes. This is the evolutionary trajectory and cannot be altered by a couple of feminist generations and media shouting.

Men are men and women are women

Now what about Women?

A woman is generally selfless only when it comes to her own children, her own blood. Only then. She is physically weak comparatively so has developed different survival mechanisms for herself and her offspring. She is psychologically stronger. She has more ego and more selfishness. These two traits are linked to her survival during evolutionary history. A woman is extremely vulnerable at several points of her life eg during the 5 days of the monthly cycle, during pregnancy, during rearing a small child, and has had to learn to play mind games just for survival.

A woman always remains aware of her individuality and cannot immerse herself deeply for anything other than her children/herself. In fact women are not so deeply connected to their their husbands even. If they find a better care giver for themselves and their children they can shift. A woman’s focus is on her and her children’s individual survival. She can do anything for this. She has a narrower mindset which limits itself to herself and her bloodline. Women are in this do not think much of the larger interests of the society. But she is extraordinarily aware of the tiniest things in the house, eg the sugar in the kitchen is finished, there is dust under the bed, the curtains need airing etc.

A woman will generally feel more satisfied when she does something for the good of her children/herself. She is more practical and survival oriented. She will prefer dealing with immediate issues rather than long term tactical strategies.

This is micro level priority and may be linked to the presence of XX DNA structures of a woman. Again this is a general observation.

This post is not for blaming either of the genders. This is how they are on a deep level subconsciously and they have become this over millions of years of evolution. Men manage the society and women manage the house and both these functions are equally important. There cannot be a vibrant society without families and there can be no safe families without a society existing over them.

One interesting example, Chefs or people who cook for village fests, weddings and in large volumes are almost always men. Women on the other hand generally cook just for their personal families. It is not about the taste or efforts, it is linked to the ability to “give”. Women can better “give” to their families. Men can better “give” to large groups.

And with due apology to both men and women, I am neither a feminist or a chauvinist. This is my observation and my experience. Both men and women exist so that the macro and micro levels are both taken care of. Both are different and both are essential. And neither can be compared to the other.

And that young man today, whose performance triggered this post. I will always remember him, his aura in a female role was feminine, as a male role was masculine and when I met him he was not even aware of the level to which he had immersed himself in his roles. An extraordinary performance indeed.

Men are men and women are women
