Working in the Psychic realms

The psychic world is all about mind, intention and the energy that you drive your intention with. If you are able to visualise clearly and have the energy to power it with, you will be a success in any psychic activity you undertake.

Are rituals and ceremonies important? There are several books on ‘ceremonial magic’ (eg Goetic spirits). All rituals are designed to make your mind work in a specific direction. If you control your mind, you control everything. Ceremonial magic is a short-cut which diverts you from the main thing which is strengthening your mind. Eg in some rituals your mind is stilled by using essential oils, incense, etc. These are effective and do work. If you are just starting with this you should use the rituals. But do realise that these are tools. Use the tools if you want, but never get dependant on them.

Focus on your mind, train your mind and you wont need to use physical tools. Your mind is your most important tool. Invest time in Dhyan, this is all important as the mental strength you develop carries with you in your next lives too. The time spent on spiritual practice is an investment. If you invest in ceremonial magic and rituals instead and ignore your mind, you will sooner or later be in psychic trouble.

A single puff of marijuana will definitely calm the mind and increase focus (More than one puff will fry your brain and down your spiritual potential). But why remain dependant on this external factor? It is more advisable, safer and more long-term if you can achieve this state of mind without the chemical intake. Do your regular Dhyan, and within 6 months you will get immune to all substances which give a ‘high’. The mental stillness produced in Dhyan is more deep than anything that any substance can produce. Avoid chemicals, these damage eventually.

Is group activity better? Another thing I have seen is that some people prefer working in a group rather than alone. This, in my opinion, is very dangerous. When you do anything connected to the astral, you are required to be very alert all the time. It is your mind, intentions and your energy. You should be quite aware of your own strengths and weaknesses. You should not venture into more than you can handle. The astral is not a place to take risks in.

A group is just as strong as its weakest member. There are so many variables, so many minds involved. Why link up with others minds so intimately? You do not know what karmic baggage your other group members are under. You cannot be certain when their mind/ intention/ energy will crack under the strain. Why should you put yourself in this uncertainty? When you are in the psychic states, your deepest buried emotions, feelings, experiences come out to challenge you. Why put your safety in the hands of others? Spiritual ability is affected by several things, the worst being intake of alcohol and drugs, the tiniest bit will put the person out of balance. You do not know the deepest background of your group-members, so group-activity is a needless risk.

The best way is to learn from a proper teacher and then do your psychic stuff alone. You can take guidance from others but ultimately all this is between you and your mind.

Using the Ida and Pingala

Another thing is entrainment of the mind. If, in your group, one member has very good control over his mind/intention/energy, he will dominate everyone else. It is not always a conscious domination, it is just that a weaker mind ‘follows’ a stronger one automatically. (I have written a post on this) This is bad for the person with the weaker mind. He loses his individuality and sort of resembles the other like a shadow or something faded. If the person with the strongest mind is not malevolent, the drain on the others will be less. But if he is actively unscrupulous he can drain the others without any effort at all. Now this drain can work the other way round too, with the weakest member requesting energy on the astral levels and you giving it to him. Both these cases would be a type of subtle psychic attack.

Then during such group activity involving the astral, if one of the group members is not trust-worthy, he can insert suggestions into the minds of the others. This is a sort of a hypnotic suggestion which can germinate later and cause problems. This is, in short, a malevolent psychic attack. If you are used to participating in a group, take 21 days off, do not contact your group members. Cut the energy cords and relax. If you feel better and more energetic after this time period, it means that the group was draining your energy. Avoid any psychic activity or spiritual activity in groups. A very big No to any sort of common group meditations.

Anything that you do with your mind/ intention/ energy is strictly a personal process. No one else should even see you while you are performing it. Shut the door to your room while you do your Dhyan and other spiritual practices too.

Now telepathic links are different. If I want to get the attention of my brothers (We Indians address cousins also as ‘brothers’.), I simply think of him, call his name and visualise my heart/Anahat chakra amplifying this energy of thought. This draws his attention immediately. He receives my thought-call via his third eye chakra. We can then exchange thoughts, energy, healing etc.

It is your mind and your wish. You are in charge, remember this always. Whatever you call with your intention, you can dismiss it with your intention equally easily. If you have created it you are capable of destroying it. If by chance or ill-luck you have got yourself into a situation, you have the potential to get out of it too. Just clear your mind and focus.

It is important to have a source of faith which acts a source of energy for you. All Hindus/ followers of Sanatan Dharma, are required to recite the Gayatri Mantra for just this reason, it is a source of unlimited energy. Another useful mantra is the Nav-avarna mantra. (Btw Sanskrit Mantras are also tools but tools made from conscious intelligent energy). If you do Jaap of such a mantra, the energy remains available to you in all states. If you get stuck, you can literally throw the mantra’s energy at your opponent and escape. During your regular spiritual practice make it a point to make one mantra your own. Pull the energy of the mantra deep into yourself so that you can use it when ever you want. (A few nights ago there was a particularly nasty entity waiting at the gate of my house for me and wouldn’t leave. I got rid of it, then recited the entire Tantroka Ratri Sukta over myself. All this in my dream state. You can programme your mind and then sleep. You will do whatever you had intended in the dream state. This ability is very useful). One thing which happens with regular spiritual practice is that the awake state and the dream state or the active astral states become seamless. You retain complete awareness during all these states. The only time when you really rest and rejuvenate is when you are in the deep sleep/ sushupti state.

The astral realms and the energies of the psyche are different to what we normally experience in our physical life. Some people can access these easily while some are completely unaware of them. You will be drawn to these only if your karmic balance is linked to it. But it always helps to be aware of things. Your psychic energy is very precious, be very careful with it.

Create and animate your astral shadow

This post is how to create and animate your astral shadow. Astral shadows have several uses but these two are quite common,

  1. If you wish to use the astral pathways to travel.
  2. If you wish to create an astral guard for yourself while you are busy doing something.

Creating an astral shadow self is a two step process.

  1. First is to create an exact copy of your astral self. Your astral self is composed of the subtle-body and the causal body (You leave behind the gross anna-mai-kosh). For creating an astral copy of yourself you need to know how you look on the astral planes. Every tiny detail has to be replicated. You focus and create this copy of your subtle body.
  2. The second step is animating this astral self. You pull out the consciousness from your current body and put it into the astral shadow body you have created. Thus it gets animated and you have consciously left your physical gross body anna-mai-kosh. Your physical body is not dead, the soul is connected to it by a ‘silvery cord’. It is actually more golden-silvery-shimmery. Or you can animate it for a specific task which can be ‘programmed’ into it, here you don’t transfer your entire consciousness.

All this requires a significant amount of energy. To create the astral self and then animate it. So think twice about why you are doing this. Then there are the dangers of the astral, so you should never never attempt these things alone. Always have your real-live teacher guiding you.

So this post is, in a way, just for information.

Some of us travel astrally at night. Here we are doing it under the control of the sub-conscious mind. This impacts on the physical body after you wake up, like typical pressures on the head, intense body pain, nausea etc. Creating and using an astral shadow self is different as you are doing it under the control of the conscious mind. But the physical symptoms will occur, be prepared for this.

The easiest way is to use the Chhaya-sadhana method. I have written about how to focus on your shadow as a spiritual practice in my earlier post here. Do read it. I had mentioned that tantriks use this method to create a shadow of themselves. If you do this shadow-practice for 21 days with full focus and intention, you will sense your after-image projected into the skies becoming more than just an after-image. This now starts becoming a ‘chhaya-purush’, an astral replica of yourself. Depending on how strong your mental energies are, this chhaya-purush will become stronger and more defined. It might take upto 6 months to get the highest possible details. As you practice and focus deeply, you will be able to call your chhaya-purush at your third-eye chakra at any time you want to.

Till this point this exercise can be done by everyone. Recognising your astral self and being aware of it, is a good thing for the student of the occult.

Now you know that your personal soul/ jiv-atma or personal consciousness, resides at the third eye chakra. The ajnya chakra is very important for just this reason. If you are able to visualise your finely detailed chhaya-purush in your third-eye chakra, you can easily transfer your entire personal consciousness into it. Understand this statement. You are transferring your complete consciousness into an astral shadow. You will be seeing, working, moving out of this shadow. So the first thing you will see is your material body sitting in front of you, without animation. So even if you are not scared of anything, this is one thing which will scare and scare badly, guaranteed.

Removing the consciousness from the physical body and putting it into the shadow is a mental process. You visualise it, intend it and it happens. There is no need for any ritual or ceremony. However before attempting something like this, it is always better to cleanse the room, this will reduce interference. Switch off the lights, as darkness and silence allow greater focus. Sit on your asan, meditate or breath deeply a few times. Request energy and help from your source of faith, your favourite deity, etc. Concentrate in your third eye chakra and call in your chhaya-purush. It will float in front of you. Now visualise yourself exiting your material body and entering your shadow. You will. Also keep track of the silvery cord linking the two bodies now onwards. Go wherever you want to and do whatever it is. After you finish, follow the silvery cord back to your physical body and just visualise entering it again. After you re-enter, remember to dissolve the shadow. This is all about intention so be very clear about what you are thinking/ feeling/ intending.

You have travelled astrally consciously.

After you return, the body will feel the strain. There will be a dull ache all over, a point of pressure within your skull etc. This should resolve eventually. But to set all your bodies back properly you will have to do some self-healing. (I like using the extended form of Gayatri Mantra for this, as it fixes the bodies back within each other perfectly.)

However you don’t need to push your entire consciousness into your astral shadow. Intending that it goes and does something is rather a small task so you can just programme it and send it off. It will be less draining than transferring your consciousness completely. eg If you want to create a guard shadow as a watchman while you are busy, you will programme your chhaya-purush accordingly. You will instruct it to look for danger/ disturbance coming towards you from all the 10 directions, east, west, north, south, NE, NW, SE, SW, up and down. It will remain inert and watchful. In case of psychic attack it will respond by fighting back. Just remember that it is your projection, your energy, so as it gets battered while fighting astrally you will feel the effects too. When you pull it back into yourself, you will gain a report of what it was doing or what did it observe.

Then there is the second method which is used by western occultists. I haven’t used it, my brother has. (He experiments, he used to take more risks when he was younger.)

So the basic theory remains the same. But here you visualise an exact physical body, same as yours, right down to your nails and hair! In chhaya-sadhana you use a mantra, the energy of the sun/moon, your chakras and things. In this second method you are simply focussing on your physical appearance. Look at your actual physical body in the mirror. Try to remember how you look. Close your eyes and re-create your physical image here. Imagine every bit of your physical body strongly. As you do this intensely, maybe a 6 month time-frame, and you will be able to call on your exact physical like-ness to the tinest detail to your third eye.

Once you have achieved this, the further process remains the same. You pull out the consciousness from your third eye chakra and put it in your visualised body. It also separates just as easily and you will be able to move into the astral dimensions using it. And yes, the visual of your actual physical body sitting like a mass of flesh will unnerve you at first.

There are a lot of things around us. The astral dimensions are not peaceful glowy lights and soft music. There are very real dangers there. Things which attack the mind. If you get scared or emotional or feel disgust or anything for that matter you are in trouble. Most of us have no need to fiddle about with these things. And even for those of us who are required by karma to get involved with the invisible, proper guidance is essential. You need a live person teacher in front of you while actually attempting these antics.

So whoever it was who asked this question on astral projection start by building up your mind. Learn to keep your emotions, your feelings, your mind in your absolute control. This is not easy, but yes, if you build yourself up and practice you will be able to do create your astral shadow, animate and use it.

There is a fundamental difference between methods which use Sanskrit mantra and those which do not. If you are not using Mantra, the energy of the process becomes tamasik, ultimately damaging the practitioner. In India too, there are several dubious people/ tantriks who work with entities, spirit slaves etc. This is very dangerous.

There are several movies which show entities fighting back and harming the exorcists. This happens if you do not use the energy of Sanskrit Mantra. My brothers and I use the energy of Mantra-s, intentions, the blessings of our Devi and our Guru. Thus we do not get harmed in anything that we do. We dedicate all that we do to the Ultimate Parabrahma so that we do not attract karma.

The secret of all Tantra is clarity of intention and the power of your mind. This comes only with regular spiritual practice.

Learn to make a Chi ball

Chi balls are balls of energy that you can create between your palm chakras.

Our body is not biochemical but is electromagnetic. Thus there are chakras, energy vortices in our bodies. The main ones are seven located in our spinal area from our coccyx to the top of the head, from muladhar to the sahasrara chakra. But there are other minor chakras too, in the center of our palms, in the center of the foot, etc.

How to activate the palm chakras is simple if you have been initiated into Reiki. Just draw all the symbols you have been taught on both your palms, cup your palms and focus. But even if you do not know reiki it is quite possible to activate these chakras. I have mentioned how to do this in my earlier post “working with energy“.

So when you start feeling a whirring of energy in between your folded/cupped hands, slowly draw your hands apart. If the whirring stops bring them closer again. The whirring means that a ball of energy is being created within your palms. This is the chi ball. If you can see auras at this point of time you should be able to gold/silver or blue/green or pink or similar shimmery colours in between your palms now.Now to use this ball of energy. Some of the stuff I have done with the chi balls I made

  1. Made it rain. Inserting a rune “Haglaz” in the chi ball and throwing it up into the skies. It not only rained the next day but it also made tiny hailstones.
  2. Pushing a stuck project. Visualised how the finished project would be like and pushed this image into the chi ball and released it into the skies.
  3. Helped my child who had fallen ill, recover faster. Inserted all the reiki symbols I knew into the chi ball and let it be absorbed in my child’s aura.
  4. Healed a client’s past trauma. Actually this is possible with just the Reiki “Hon she zha shen” symbol but putting the intention and the symbol inside a chi ball worked even better.

So there are lots and lots of things that you can do with chi balls. Making and using chi balls is absolutely a plus in your energy healing kit.

Try to sense your chakras

Believe it or not, all of us, at all the time are working with energy. We are a ball of energy ourselves moving in the vast continuum of time and space.

Our past lives and karma are the energy events which occur at intervals of time and these can be predicted through various tools. Some of these are horoscope, tarot, cartomancy, iChing, runes, cowrie shells and anything you can think of. I have learnt several of these methods and they all match. If as per the horoscope the period is good then all the other methods of divination also show positive results.

So in my personal experience the reader is the channel and the rest is just a tool. If the reader has developed an ability to tap into the vastness of the Information available then he can use any of these tools as a medium to access this information. Of course the great sages and sadhus are also such highly developed readers who can just close their eyes and see the information without any need for tools like horoscope or runes.

Our Sanatan Dharm always tells us to stop being the “doer”, in the sense that we should stop labelling our actions with the tagline, “I, did this!”. The moment we do this this action and the packet of energy it represents gets attached to us as a karma. This causes our personal energy to get unbalanced and then the karmic load makes itself felt which demands to be balanced. So if we stop tagging the action/energy with our name we can stop this vicious cycle of unbalanced karma.

If our personal energies are balanced and stable then we can more easily access the Information available to us. And for balancing our personal energies regular spiritual practice is a must. The easiest practice is doing Dhyan, mindfully contemplating the third eye and the breath (prana).

Our bodies are not biochemical but are actually electromagnetic. I would really encourage everyone to get initiated to Reiki from a responsible Reiki teacher. It is one of the easiest means to visualize the energy patterns flowing on our bodies. (But finding a good one would be rather difficult in this age of commercialised energy-techniques). So if you are not so sure about getting Reiki initiation try this easy method to sense the movement of the 7 chakras in your body.

  1. Sit in a quiet place with no external light or sound or in your puja room in your house. In front of your altar or deity. Sit simply crossing your legs or in some yogic posture or on your asan as you feel comfortable.
  2. Close your eyes.
  3. Briskly rub your hands on each other and then fold your hands in the namaskar position (palms joined together a slight hollow between the two palms, relaxed). Breathe deeply and focus on your third eye between your eyebrows.
  4. Now think of your source of faith, deity, Universe, mantra anything which makes you feel grateful, touches your heart. Request its help. Ask it to give you energy and strength.
  5. Now chant any mantra of your choice, gayatri or Mahammrutunjai or Shrisukta or any beej mantra or even Ganpati atharvasheersha or any of your favourite Sanskrit mantra. If you are not sure about mantras you can recite Om. If you cannot recite any of these you can recite your favourite hymn/song or anything which brings you close to your source of faith.
  6. Continue reciting with intention and focus and soon you will start feeling your palms getting warm, even hot. Remain relaxed, it is the easiest thing.
  7. Do this regularly once a day, for a few days and you will feel a tingling and then a whirring in your palms as the chakras/energy vertices in your palms get active. (should take max 4-5 attempts) It will get easier to activate them now onwards and the flow of energy will also be stronger.
  8. With time you will be able to see the color of the chakras and the direction of their movement. Generally they move in a clockwise direction. They go anti-clockwise only during the 5-7 days of monthly cycle for women (post here) Or in people who are suffering severe diseases where the body is actively deteriorating.
  9. Once you are able to sense your palm chakras, the energy of the universe is accessible to you. Remember your source of faith with gratitude every time you do this. If you start some spiritual practice and do it regularly your body will be able to channel more and more quantum of energy. You can use this energy to heal.
  10. To heal, the easiest way would be to hold glass of water in your palms. As your chakras move, intend healing and visualise the energy getting into the water. Charge the water for a maximum 5 minutes. Drink this!

So go ahead and try this small exercise. Start noticing the movement of energy in your own bodies.
