The horoscope of the child has significant relationships with the horoscopes of his/her mother’s and father’s horoscopes, separately and simultaneously. Here writing a bit on timing the birth of a child.

Predicting the birth of a child

First of all check the horoscopes of the parents to check for childlessness. If both the horoscopes are capable of having natural children then try to work out the timing. (Or you can do this as an exercise, for your own child, correlate when he/she was born and how this time can be arrived from your and your husband/wife’s horoscopes.)

First the year. Jupiter and Saturn both are involved in timing of childbirth or more appropriately the conception of the child.

  • Within the approx 9 months prior to the birth of the child, the transiting Jupiter and/or Saturn in both the father‘s and the mother‘s birth chart, will be placed in the 5th house and/or the 9th house.
  • Or aspected/conjoint with the lord of the 5th and/or the lord of the 9th.
  • When you check aspects, if they, Jupiter/Saturn, are retrograde then they will also be influencing the house behind where they are placed.
  • Also when you check aspects, remember the planet will influence a zone of 15deg around him. E.g. Saturn in Libra at 2deg will also influence a Mars placed in 27deg Virgo.

Now the month. Mars, the ruler of life/death and transformation, also of blood, operations, secrets and openings of every sort. During childbirth, fiery energy of every sort is at work thus Mars must be involved.

  • The transit Mars in both the father’s and the mother’s birth chart, will be placed in the 5th house and/or the 9th house at least 2.5 months prior to the child birth. (A baby born about 7.5 months from conception is considered viable as per astrological concepts. A child born before this may not survive childhood unless there are a significant benefic aspects. Thus this time period of 2.5 months).
  • Or similarly aspected/conjoint with the lord of the 5th and/or the lord of the 9th.
  • Check if he is retrograde and his degrees as above.

Then the transiting Sun and his aspects to be evaluated on the same lines as the Mars above. This will help narrow down the month.

Now to narrow it down it to the day when labour will begin and the child will be thus born. Approximately within 3 days from before the child is born, these conditions will be met. The position of the Moon in transit. He will be linked to both the parents charts in either of the following ways. (This also works for children born in premature or Caesarean delivery.)

  • He will be placed in the ascendant sign of both/either of the parents charts.
  • Aspecting or in the 5th or 9th houses of both/either of the parents charts
  • Or aspecting or with the 5th or 9th lords of both/either of the parents charts

These rules are compulsory. If there is some confusion then the mother’s horoscope chart is given greater importance as she is the one actually giving birth.

Now these combinations will repeat several times in life, even if you consider the charts of both parents-to-be simultaneously. So to pinpoint the exact birth time, first of all you will have to calculate the possibility of having children using the planetary dasha.

Finally because experience is the best teacher, practice, using the charts of your family members, couples with children to see how these rules actually work in real life. Then as a second step check out charts of expecting parents to see if you can pinpoint the time of birth of the child. And finally use the charts of newly married couples to predict when their child will be born.

The more you practice doing predictions, the more your mind will get used to seeing patterns in the charts. Patterns are everything.

(There are more details you can get into using the divisional charts of the parents, especially the Navamsha and Saptamsha. But it is rather technical and beyond the scope of this post.)

The planets have a significant influence on our development right from conception. While we are in the mother’s womb, her horoscope had overarching influence on us, then followed by the father’s horoscope. A human pregnancy lasts for about 280 days. We think of it as 9 months, but more correctly its is about 9 Solar months and 10 exact Lunar months. (One Lunar month is for 28days.) The Lunar month is more important here as menstrual cycle too is linked to the moon. So one human pregnancy is 10 Lunar months of 28 days each.

We can use astrology to help a pregnant woman and her baby. We can use our Intentions and the energies of the planets harnessed through their specific mantras. Each planet governs a specific phase of the in-womb development, thus strengthening the planetary influences by reciting their mantras always helps.

Now check out the horoscope of the pregnant woman. Check out the following especially, and the other planets too, as each one of them is involved in creating a new human baby.

  1. 5th house – its sign, the occupant planets, and the owner planet – this is the house which creates the child
  2. 8th house – the reproductive organs of the mother
  3. Sun – natural ruler of the 5th sign of the zodiac will influence the creation of the child wherever he may be placed.
  4. Mars – The natural owner of the 8th sign of the zodiac and the energy and vitality of the reproductive organs is linked to him.
  5. The relative strength of all the planets should be examined, especially the debilitated or combust or retrograde planets and the planets located in the 6th house, 8th house and 12th houses should be checked. Planets under the influences of malefics may also need to be supported during the pregnancy.
  6. The transiting planets over this period of pregnancy should be given due attention too.
  7. One point to highlight. Abortion, Miscarriage and Medical termination of pregnancy can be seen from that month’s ruling planet, if he is adversely placed in the mother’s birth and transit charts and both and her 5th and 8th house shows additional malefic influences.

Planets to help you in your Pregnancy

The first month of 28 days – This period immediately follows intercourse and is ruled by Venus/Shukra. The sperm and ovum combine to produce the embryo. A time of very high activity in the embryo where the cells are set up in blocks destined to be the new body. The cells are still fluid in the sense the programming is not yet fixed. The cells are still totipotent, one initial cell can give rise to several types of cells. During this period if the mother’s chart has a weak birth Venus or even if the current Venus in transit is combust, retrograde or with malefics, the mother needs to support herself and her child by reciting the Venus mantra, “Om draang dreeng draung sah Shukraya namah Om”. At least thrice or 108 times everyday. If the father or others want to support they can by reciting this version “Om draam dreem draum sah Shukraya namah Om”

Second month of 28 days – This period is ruled by Mars/Mangal. By now the cells of the fetal body have become rigid. The totipotency has been replaced by pleuripotency. The cells destined for the liver cannot re-programme themselves to become the muscle now. Thus rigidity has set in. Shape of the body is discernible. If the mother’s Mars is weak or the transit Mars is afflicted or retrograde or combust etc it is necessary to help the fetus with his energies. The mother must recite, “Om kraang kreeng kraung sah Mangalaya Namah om” thrice or 108 times, and the father will recite, “Om kraam kreem kraum sah Mangalaya Namah om” to help his wife and the growing baby.

Third month of 28days is ruled by Jupiter/Guru – this is a period of rapid expansion and the shape of the fetal body becomes more defined. The fetus becomes aware and now onwards can preceptively respond to the mother/father. Here it is necessary to provide him energies of Jupiter, depending on the Jupiter in the mother’s chart and also the position of the transit Jupiter currently if combust etc. The mother should recite, “Om graang greeng graung sah Gurave namah Om”, thrice or 108 times daily, and the others can help her and the baby by reciting, “Om graam greem graum sah Gurave namah Om”.

Fourth month of 28 days is ruled by the Sun/Surya. The baby’s intelligence expands and the divine spark helps it in establishing its soul’s energies during this period. The Vedic Sanskar of Pushban is performed during this period to help establish the energies of the Sun in the fetus. The strength of the body increases, bone and muscle structure begin to form. To help the fetus during this period and enhance the energies of the Sun available to it, the mother should recite, “Om hraang hreeng hroung sah Suryaya namah Om”, either thrice or 108 times daily. And the father and others will recite, “Om hraam hreem hroum sah Suryaya namah Om”. Especially if the mother’s Sun in the chart is badly placed or debilitated or the current transit Sun is placed with malefics, like Rahu/Ketu Saturn etc or there is to be an eclipse during this period.

Fifth month of 28 days is ruled by the Moon/Chandra here the circulatory system of the fetus is in place and his blood and blood cells start functioning, the immune system develops. A sense of emotional self is initiated. The fetus can now understand its emotions and express them too. This is a critical period in the development as the mind and emotions are taking root. The mother’s chart Moon should be examined and if in a bad position/sign/aspected or with malefics or debilitated it needs to be strengthened. If there are any eclipses during this period be very careful. Especially be careful on the amavasya/new moon day falling in this month.

Sixth month of 28 days is now ruled by Saturn. The bones, nerves and supporting frame of the body gets defined, Hair and nails grow out. This period is also crucial because here the capacity for endurance of the child is being laid down. The mother can support the Saturn in building the body of her child by reciting his mantra, “Om praang pring praung sah Sanishcharaya namah Om”. The father should recite “Om praam prim praum sah Sanishcharaya namah Om”. This will be essential in case of badly placed Saturn in the cart of the mother or the current transiting Saturn being combust, retrograde or debilitated etc.

Seventh month of 28 days is ruled by Mercury. here the baby can now think, its nervous system and brain development has now reached a critical stage. It is clearly aware of its own fetal body and the signals which it receives from its mother and the outer environment too. It can feel. It’s intelligence and awareness has reached a significant stage and it can understand. It would be ideal if the mother recites the beej mantra, “Om braang breeng braung sah Budhaya namah Om.” either 3 times or 108 times daily and the father recites “Om braam breem braum sah Budhaya namah Om” for the growth of his unborn child’s wisdom and intelligence. Especially if the mother’s birth Mercury or the current transit Mercury is not well placed this remedy would be critical.

Eight month of 28 days is ruled by Lord of the Mother’s ascendant sign seen from her birth chart. This is a highly critical period for the mother and child, and the Vedic Sanskar of Seemantonayan is performed during this period for protection of the fetus and the mother. The mother needs to keep herself surrounded by positive vibrations and keep herself happy. If by chance the woman prematurely delivers during this period it would be disastrous. This is the period where the complete personality of the fetus is being decided. The mantra to be recited is the beej mantra of the ascendant lord seen from the mother’s birth chart.

Ninth month of 28 days is ruled by the Sun/Surya again. Here the fetus gains an understanding and control of his own body. He is well on his way of being a person. He can feel hunger and thirst. Fetal images of the fetus sucking his thumb etc are from this period onwards. It starts finalising its body structures in preparing for delivery. The mantra here is again the beej mantra of Sun/Surya to be recited by the mother and the father.

Tenth month of 28 days, is again ruled by the Moon, this is the last phase before delivery occurs. This baby’s mind and emotions are now active and it is mentally prepared for the delivery. Child’s mind becomes active and it gets ready for delivery. Recitation of the beej mantra of the Moon will help immensely during this period ensuring the safety of the mother and her child. Natural delivery will occur in this period when there is a link between the mother’s Moon sign, Mars sign and the transiting Moon and Mars positions.

Thus after this hectic activity of 280 days, the baby is born into the world as a separate individual with his its own horoscope charted out with its chosen life-events. As the mother and the father, it is our responsibility to help as much as we can, with Mantras, Intentions and Will-power on the spiritual plane. With our assets, presence and support on the physical plane and with Love and Understanding on the emotional plane. If we can do this for our child, right from its conception, we would have successfully completed our debt to the society by raising a responsible, well-adjusted individual, an asset to the society.

Abortions and implications, astrologically

Abortions are quite routine in today’s society, with even over-the-counter pills available for intentionally aborting the baby. Women abort for several reasons, no time for child, conceived by mistake, career concerns, or family insistent for a male child only, several reasons including medical reasons. All this drama and eventual tragedy of the actual abortion directly connects with the horoscope.

Lets first check out the factors which influence conception and the eventual birth of a child

  1. Mainly the 5th house, the owner planet, the occupant planets, and the aspects
  2. Sign Leo and its occupant planets, position of the Sun to some extent
  3. 9th house for any ‘family curses’ or ancestor related problems
  4. 8th house for the status of the reproductive system of the parent.

If there are malefic influences in these houses then there are chances of problems related to conception, pregnancy, delivery, health of the mother or child. There would be then the medical complications which lead to medical termination of pregnancy etc. This is a slightly different scene as already there are malefics affecting reproduction and there is a built-in bias for complications. Here the remedies need to be taken up before attempting to conceive.

In this post I am discussing the wilful and intentional abortion where a healthy mother aborts a healthy fetus.

So when the woman conceives a normal child she is expected to birth it and nurture it, she is a mother. She has utilised the forces of creation given to her. The man is also now a father and his duty is to support the mother and his child as he is able. This is Rule of the Conscience/Dharma. There is some controversy on when should the baby be considered as a ‘human’, but legal matters are irrelevant. You become a father or a mother at the instant of conception. The newly conceived one-celled baby is a conscious living separate person. If you see the aura of a pregnant woman, frankly I wish everyone learns to see auras it brings in a whole new perspective. Well, in the aura of a pregnant woman you can clearly see 2 different energies, right from the start. The soul who is the baby starts moving within the mother’s energy bodies right from the instant of conception. The baby knows and is aware of his gestation and is completely aware during its eventual birth. It is a very difficult and traumatic process, building your body in the the womb and getting born. But the baby has chosen his path and is willing to endure and is waiting for his entry into the world/Martyalok again.

In fact, in Sanatan Dharm (Hinduism), after getting married, there is a whole Sanskar (‘conception ritual’), Garbhadhan sanskar where the new couple is fortified with mantras and pujas so that they can conceive a healthy happy baby and their bodies are also prepared for it on an energy level. Again, if you can sense energies, you can see the spirit body of the new baby-to-come waiting around the parents-to-be even before they conceive. Now, I have seen this happen too, the parents-to-be make the baby-to-be wait for so long, apparently they want to enjoy each other’s company or career concerns or ‘family planning’ in a big way, that the soul eventually gets tired and moves away. In this case the couple will find it difficult to have a child in the future unless there are benefic planets covering them. One bit of advise here, if you have fiery rashis, fiery planets aspecting the 5th house, or Rahu/ Ketu/ Saturn involved here do not wait, try to conceive as early as possible after marriage.

So back to intentional abortion, the baby-soul is conscious and aware of what is happening to his mother and his fetus-body. This baby-soul’s energy is now residing inside the aura of the mother, and is aware of her everything, literally everything. You can hide your emotions from your face, but nothing can be hidden from the aura. Even if you lie the color of the aura changes. So nothing about the mother is hidden from the baby-soul. This is the reason we ask expecting mothers to listen to uplifting music, meditate, think happy thoughts etc. During this period of pregnancy 2 more Sanskar rituals, Pumsvan and Seemantonayan, are done to fortify the energy body of the baby-soul and the mother. See, out of the 16 Sanskars for a Hindu in his/her lifetime, 3 are connected with pregnancy. It is because this a highly vulnerable period for both and also both are highly receptive to energy. So we surround them with positive energies.

Now if the healthy mother decides to abort the healthy fetus for whatever reason, the trauma to both is immense.

First about the baby-soul. The baby-soul suffers the trauma of having the body removed from the mother and its death. This is breach of trust and against the Rule of the Conscience/Dharma. This spirit-body of the baby-soul is his higher-self, as he has not yet bound himself by the horoscope of birth, so is capable of much more. He is not yet limited by being tied in a human body. And technically its body has died. It has become a pretatma/ancestral spirit belonging to the family. So it releases its trauma, betrayal, sorrow and pain as a curse, it curses with intention, it curses the mother, father and the family. And in such an emotionally charged environment the curse takes root. This is seen in the horoscopes of later generations as a ‘dosh’ which denies children, denies male children, causes miscarriage, causes early deaths in children born alive, handicapped children, retarded children etc, eg ‘pitru dosh’, kaal-sarpa dosh’ and the like. This can cause the end of this family line. If children are denied it is end of the family.

Now for the mother. She has breached trust, broken the Rule of the Conscience/Dharma and insulted the creative aspect of her divine nature. She suffers enormous backlash which manifests as denial of children, or children related problems in the present life or in the future lives. The father and other family members responsible for the abortion are also not spared in this. Nor is the doctor or other medical personnel who were involved in this act.

Abortions and implications, astrologically

The snake is the representative of the ancestral spirits and karma both. So when your astrologer tells you that your misfortunes are because your ancestors killed a snake, it can be an actual snake or a child/fetus. And if as an astrologer, if you come across a client/family who has the following problems,

  1. repeated dreams of snakes
  2. a history of failure in child bearing etc in the family
  3. no male progeny, or less than average number of boys, throughout the family
  4. 9th house affected by Rahu/Ketu in several members of the family
  5. A recurring planetary combination like kaal sarpa, sarpa dosh, pitru dosh etc in the family members

There is only one solution, the oldest male in the family has to go to Brahmakapal, Badrinath, Uttarakhand, India, and offer funeral rituals / Tarpan for all the dead ancestors.

So before taking such a drastic decision of intentional abortion, do give a thought about what the consequences can be. Your higher inner self, conscience, is always judging your action and the Rule of Conscience/Dharma prevails.
