I wrote on the 6th house in the previous post. Now am continuing on the results with the planets in or aspecting the 6th. Planets posted anywhere in the horoscope have karmic lessons that they teach. In the 6th, the planets engage in logical analysis, litigation, accusations, anxiety, tend to get into details so much that they lose the big picture and want problems of which there are no possible solutions. A loop!

Sun in 6th 

The Father figure in the house of arguments. The Sun stands for the father, the government agents, politicians, bosses, senior males etc. In the 6th their behaviour becomes a source of misery. They tend to be toxic, adversarial, criminal, unbalanced, exploitative, abusive, dominating and conflicted. They are supposed to be glorious, radiant and noble but here they betray trust. The actual father may be ill, poor, weak, unfair or even have addictions. This has a deep impact on the psyche of the individual.

This Sun has two options here, he can offer his service and his divine confidence to help those victim-others indicated by the 6th. Or he himself can use his sense of entitlement and arrogance to exploit and create victims. Such a Sun may indicate a doctor, an army-man, a lawyer, in social service etc and may spend his time and energy tending to others. But Sun is always self-referential, selfish, he cannot sympathise with others, and in due course may become immune or even resent the persistent ‘victimhood’ of those whom he serves. Can turn cold and even cruel. If there are other aspects to tone down this typical nature of the Sun, or if Leo sign is well placed in the chart, this 6th Sun can actually play out quite well in life.

Moon in 6th 

The Mother figure in the house of imbalance. Protective figures, caretakers, school-teachers and sheltering figures tend to be exploitative, accusatory, dominating, devious, criticising. Persons who are supposed to shelter, nurture and protect betray trust and create emotional guilt. Advise taken from these figures will always create problems. Relationship with the mother will always be toxic irrespective of other aspects. The mother may be working for the lower classes or may be from the servant class herself. Such a mother is often ill herself. She may be a doctor, nurse, social worker, criminal lawyer etc.This Moon makes the person and his maternal figures work, work and work, either because of some physical, financial or emotional need. Childhood is traumatic and a lifetime of unexpressed and un-understood sorrow is the result. This person is often rootless and hyper-sensitive to the undercurrents of emotions in the relations around him. Is always emotionally upset, unwanted and alone. And the worst, this Moon causes attachment/emotional comfort, to the objects/agents/circumstances of imbalance.

Results of planets placed in the 6th house

Mars in 6th

Brother-figures become adversaries and agents of conflict. These include challenging, competitive and champion males. These males will either be the victims of the factors of the 6th or will try to make you their victim. Conflicts with military men, criminals, comrades, men in peer roles, and brothers, aggressive servants, sexual violence, heat and metals. However Mars himself is full of vital energies and crushing force so will ensure that you win your wars in the 6th. He provides enough energy for you conquer both, your internal and external enemies. The conflict is continuous and challenges relentless but Mars gives success in this placement. You can be an excellent in arenas which require continuous actions against injustice, arguments, litigations, diseases, war etc. This is a good placement for Mars.

Mercury in 6th

Communications of conflict. Conflicts and betrayal from siblings and team-mates. Here the scene is set for anxiety, stealing, petty crimes, financial crimes, criminal scheming, mis-understandings, crimes in the administration, dealing with criminal paper work and communications. Medical papers, pharmacies, over-medication, addiction, juvenile crime and accusations. Mercury himself in his own natural house confers certain advantages. He can logically argue, analyse, and come to a conclusion based on data in the legal, medical, military strategy, financial fields. So he can be the criminal himself or the agency who sets right these criminal situations. He can track with his methodical mind and deduce, a Sherlock Holmes perhaps! He is the Messenger himself and thus can speak. He articulately explains details of the un-balance, un-justice, diseases, debts, hurts, accusations, exploitations of the 6th. A successful doctor, lawyer, researcher and a strategist.

It can be a good and highly fruitful placement if the energies of Mercury are better channelised and given focus by aspects from other planets.

Venus in 6th

The force of balance in the house of un-balance. Venus utterly fails to resolve the karma of the 6th. He is the force of fairness and cannot function in this toxic 6th. He just tries to superficially cover up the problems. These problems are often cheating, breaking promises, marital, sexual, spiritual, legal, divorces, addictions, drugs, alcoholism or psychological in nature, often involving women. But he cannot find the solutions to them, he just tries temporary fixes, cosmetic make-up! He is pleasant and diplomatic and may temporarily smoothen out the situations, but in this ‘serve or suffer’ house he generally tends to suffer.

Such a personality also tends to suffer in his legal partnerships, marriage and business contacts. He cannot save much and tends to spend more. He often engages with those who cannot be trusted and with those who should never be trusted. He can form close associations with servant classes, criminals and may derive pleasure from serving and working for those who suffer including animals. He is well received by the victims and those who are working to help the victims. Thus Venus superficially performs well in this house but creates several hidden problems for the individual.

Jupiter in 6th

This is sort of an existential conflict. These people are conflicted by the philosophies that they live their lives by. There is rarely a spiritual base to their lives and it leads to deep internal issues. These persons are in perpetual conflict with his teachers, patrons, priests and guides. And these also are unbalanced and betray his trust. Jupiter here gives abundant diseases, enemies, debts and litigations. The root cause of this is that the eternally over-optimistic Jupiter over-estimates his abilities. He feels that he can resolve all these toxic issues so takes on even more till the physical tension reaches breaking point.

If there are supporting aspects in the 10th house, this person can take up professions which can help the victims of 6th by philosophical teachings or taking up the crusade for them. If done properly this can help the victims by making the rest of the world more aware of their sufferings and generate empathy for them. But even here, he needs to understand that there are limits. Mercury the natural lord of 6th does not like the force of expansion residing in his house. This eventually has its repercussions and the sufferings start.

In a woman’s horoscope the Jupiter also represents the first husband. Thus she may be married to a sick person or her husband might be working in any of the professions indicated by the 6th.

Saturn in 6th

The representative of social service and social equality in the 6th creates issues with the elders, service-class, bureaucrats, law and judges. If aspects permit he can be a bureaucrat or a judge himself. This position can get toxic when law-givers and those who are supposed to be impartial figures betray trust. This has its effects on the entire society. However as Shani is quite comfortable here so he can sustain and endure. Saturn is a malefic in a toxic 6th so he also helps by offering resistance to its problems and constraining them. He also constraints the problems arising from the other dusham-sthana 8th and 12th (3rd, 7th aspects). May reduce the neighbourhood related issues too (10th aspect on 3rd house).

Saturn is all about karma, so he ensures that the karma of litigation, disease etc is slowly completed in a scheduled step-wise manner. However here things are dragged out eg long-term illnesses and very slow recovery times.

Rahu in 6th

Rahu enjoys himself in the unstable and unlawful environment of the 6th. This house of betrayal allows the trickster Rahu to indulge in activities which are not allowed in lawful society. Here Rahu takes his risks in all illicit-enslavement and unfair activities like, war, crime, litigation, drug trafficking etc. He makes his profits from activities which are generally terrifying for the common human. His preferred partners here are the ambitious criminals and rouges who operate on the outskirts of human society. Rahu in the 6th may be someone who disrupts and takes advantage of the system sucessfully.

And following Rahu’s typical pattern, these risky activities always give profits but then he dramatically over-reaches and falls.

The 6th is a successful and effective position for Rahu. However as we all including Rahu are enslaved to some force, so the usual victim narrative of the 6th should be seen from the owner of the sign in the 6th.

Ketu in 6th

Malefics are comfortable in the 6th, two negatives make a positive perhaps. When Ketu occupies the 6th, all those agents and experiences of dissociation, apathy, disinterest and release are at a loss! When these agents represented by Ketu operate from the accusatory and unbalanced environment of the 6th they fail to have any significant effect on the person as they are diffused by their ketu-nature. There may be some interference from disembodied energies like ghosts or spirits at the maximum but it will be of no physical effect.

The 6th is a harmless position for Ketu. However as we all enslaved to some force, so the usual victim narrative of the 6th should be seen from the owner of the sign in the 6th. But again Ketu to the rescue. He is by nature incoherent, thus ensures that the toxicity and negative energies originating from the 6th do not link on to the person.

This placement is of exceptional advantage as Ketu disperses all enemies, all debts, all diseases, all litigations and accusations in all aspects of life.

And finally whoever is active in this house of unbalance, will be affected by its negativity. Thus doctors, nurses, lawyers, attorneys, and social service workers who are required by karma to live and earn their livelihood from here need to be extra-careful. An intellectual appreciation of the toxic environment in which they earn their income along with regular grounding and cleansing will help them live a better balanced life.

 

Kama Trikon of the horoscope, desires

The 12 houses of the horoscope are divided into the Dharma Trikon, houses 1, 5 and 9. The Arth Trikon 2, 6 and 10. The Kama Trikon 3, 7 and 11 and the Moksh Trikon 4, 8 and 12.

The root of this Universe is ‘Desire’, Kama. This word can mean the superficial sexual desire which also leads to creation of new life and can also mean the deep Desire of the Ultimate Consciousness to play a Game/Leela called Creation. This Sanskrit word ‘Kama’, is longing, love, will, purpose, deliberation, intention, desire, passion, wish, agreeableness, enjoyment etc, so many layers and layers of meanings depending on the intention of its use. The Nasadiya Sukta of the Rig Ved, (129th Sukta of the 10th Mandala) describes the creation of the universe as the desire of the ‘Unfathomable Intelligence’.

However coming back to the horoscope, the Kama trikon, Desire Triangle, is the houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th. The houses of Desire and everything to do with it. Now lets see how these three houses would mean ‘kama’. What makes up your Universe? At its foundation is the interactions between humans. Our Universe is not us alone, when we interact with others like us, we create and populate our Universe. Thus Kama is this, the desire to be connected to others in one way or the other. From this desire for interconnections the following expectations arise,

  • being financially well-off
  • having a personal source of income through personal job/trade/profession
  • being with siblings, cousins and enjoying a feeling of brotherhood
  • being with a spouse and sexual satisfaction
  • income sources through individual partnerships and network of communities.

The Third House

The 3rd house from the ascendant is the house of extended family, neighbourhood and conversations. Our interactions in these limited intimate groups and our first step in the bargains of life is the domain of the 3rd. Our entire life is a series of bargains which lead to cooperation. I tell my son, ‘If you finish your dinner, I will tell you a story tonight’. This is a very agreeable bargain for both of us! Then as we get older we progress to making agreements with our friends, cousins and neighbours. If we make mistakes here they are forgiven and a second chance given to make-up and learn. The style of interaction in this House is one to relatively many, here we learn how to interact with the outer world as per our society’s customs and traditions.

Bhratru-Bhava, the house of brothers is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is the communicator, he is the adolescent who loves to be with his siblings and peer group. He is also the one who intelligently analyses data and classifies and learns from this. Here is where we learn how to deliberate, communicate, trade, cooperate and be bold. This house is also called the Parakrama, the house of boldness.

As we grow up the lessons from this house become the foundations of our self-earned wealth. And we desire our wealth because it makes our lives more comfortable. This house is the 2nd from the 2nd, the second is the house of family treasures. So the 3rd house uses the all resources you have available in the form of family good-will, treasures and reserves and uses them in trade and cooperation. You gain profits from the 3rd. You get an experience in trade, commerce and communication and you also learn how to be bold and courageous going about it. In this house you just don’t desire the money, you also look forward to the regular meeting of associates, the close friends and brothers. Desire is both human company and profit!

The 3rd from the ascendant tells you about how your interactions from these groups is going to be on the external social levels. eg If you have Saturn placed here, naturally it will be restricted, if Jupiter it will be extensive. However to know how these interactions are going to affect you emotionally you will have to check out the 3rd from the birth moon sign. Moon is the significator of the mind and in my opinion is sometimes more important. Eg If you have Jupiter in 3rd from ascendant but Ketu/South node at 3rd from moon sign in the chart, you will have extensive interactions with your large extended family but you will always feel detached/apathetic/dissociated from them.

The Seventh House

This house is quite easy to analyse, partnerships in every which way. These partnerships are ruled by Venus, the master negotiator. Venus also replays the same ‘human company and profit’ motif! Here however the human company is more limited to one-on-one and has to be legal. The 7th is also one of the four major foundations of the chart (the other 3 being the 1st, 4th and 10th).

The 7th is the house of all the relationships and interactions that are ruled by law of the land. Thus the legal marriage, matters of the law, court cases, business partnerships, interactions with government agencies, contracts in trade and all human interactions rising from these are the domain of the 7th. This house also governs the relationships with first legal husband/wife, children from second legal wife, maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather etc. Here as the house of marriage, our sub-conscious expects a balanced partnership based on our personal cultural legal environments. This is the house of agreements, contracts, negotiations, fairness and balance. This house desires human interaction through partnerships.

As the 7th has been hyped as the house of sexual pleasure so just a small note. Not all adults have sexual partners but all of us have one significant partnership. This can even be with a deity or an ideology. The 7th is the mirror of the self. It shows you the opposite that attracts you, fills your blanks. Seen in this context the 7th is an exchange of energy one-one between two who desire this as a karmic agreement.

The 7th counted from the ascendant, the planets located here, the position of the 7th house owner and the aspects of other planets, will determine how all these interactions play out on the external, conscious or social level. For determining the sub-conscious impact of the interactions of the 7th you will have to consider the 7th house from the birth moon sign. The 7th from the moon will determine the level of emotional satisfaction and comfort that is received in these extremely personal one-to-one interactions. eg. If you have Saturn placed here you will never feel fulfilment as Saturn constricts and restricts, on the other hand if you have Venus in the 7th house counted from your moon sign, you will always feel the harmony and beauty in all the human interactions governed by the 7th house.

The 11th House

This is the house of gain, profits and luck ruled by Saturn! Luck and Saturn, surprised? Saturn is the strictest karmic teacher of them all but he is the fairest. He will give you exactly how much you have worked for. This house of Saturn gives you all that you have worked for throughout the 1st to 10th houses of the horoscope so far. Thus the 11th is the melting pot of all the human interactions, cooperations, luck and gains in your horoscope. In the 11th you desire the entire network of energy interactions that you have invested in.

Here the interactions are not just limited to your extended family, or legal partnerships! This is like a tradesmen’s fair or a marketplace. You interact with diverse individuals, foreigners, risk-takers, travellers and everyone who shares your interests. Like-minded individuals together make up the 11th. So there is a gradual evolution, from customs-society regulated, to partnerships-legally regulated to common-interests which are now intellectually regulated. This is the real house of fulfilled desire as after the experience of the 3rd and the 7th you are now free to interact with and gain from associates you have chosen purely for their inclinations which match your own. You are not limited by traditions or what is legally approved. This is your house of karmic interactions with every energy in the Universe you have an affinity for!

The 11th from the moon should also be considered, as it stands for all you long for. If your moon is in the 6th house in Pisces, you will always yearn for emotional security, the mother, the homeland, familiar customs, the residence and mental comforts (keyword of the 11th from 6th i.e. the 4th house). Also you will want the father, the profession, the reputation, recognition in the society, and to reach the top of the organisation by working hard for it (keyword of the 11th sign from Pisces i.e. Capricorn). Whether you get it or not depends on the aspects and planets situated here.

This post is about the kama, the desires and the attractions which is in the domain of the mind. The Moon is the mind, and the most important placement in the horoscope is the sign/house of the birth moon as here is where you emotionally perceive what is happenings around you. You could be a king and sad if your ascendant is powerful and moon weak, or you could be a beggar but happy if your ascendant is weak but your moon is strong! So when you analyse the desires of your life as expressed in these 3 houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th do look at the emotional components too. Longings denied and frustrated can have very deep impacts on your psyche. Analyse yourself, try to come to terms with what is allotted to you so that you can find ways to make it better.

Scent has a direct link with your state of mind. And if you can control your mind you can do anything. If you are low, a whiff of your favourite perfume can perk you up again. Ever wonder why you love the scents you do? And which planet is linked to which perfume?

So how do we sense this energy, swirling around us, being us? With our sense organs of course! Eyes sense the energy of the sun and light, but sometimes you can see past events happening with your eyes, especially in old houses. Our ears sense the energies of sound, but sometimes we hear ‘voices’ of the long dead which seemingly come from the thin air. Our skin is sensitive to the energies of touch and we can also sense auras with it. Our hair stand on end when we are near non-compatible/scary energy. The tongue, in addition to the taste also checks the energies of the food. You must have noticed this, sometimes food prepared by someone who loves you feels lighter and ‘tastier’, because his feelings of love has energised the food. Then the sense of smell, the fragrance and scent is also energy.

Addictions astrologically and spiritually

Fragrances are something that you can easily add to your energy manipulation kit. And it can be as simple as applying perfumes on your body to as complicated as using essential oils in your spell-work. I will not write on spells, as I want to focus on easy to do things which wont take too much of your time but will add energy to your daily life. I will just focus on no-fuss fragrances you can use in your daily day. Perfumes are expensive but you dont need to spend that much money to get the benefits.

  1. If possible, always buy the best possible attars from reputed dealers, and they can be quite expensive. Attars are oil based and have actual essential oils from natural sources blended into a base/carrier oil. You get them in roll-on bottles or with an applicator wand.
  2. If possible, always buy fragrances which are directly sourced from actual plants not synthetic. Naturally derived materials contain the magic/ energies of the plants from which they are made.
  3. Go to the shop and browse through the tester scents. Go alone and take your time so that you can identify what you really like. Remember to rest your nose after checking 3-4 scents.
  4. The kitchen herb section is a very good way to check out which scents you are attracted to. Best part is you can eat or drink them.
  5. Go to your nearby plant nursery and smell the flowers, see what you are attracted to. You can even go to a park to smell the grass or a sea beach to smell the sea.
  6. If you like something, plant it in your house! It is the cheapest and actually the best, the living energy of the actual plant. You get dwarf varieties of several tall trees too. You can have your tiny herb garden. Lemon, germanium, lavender, basil, ginger lily, lemon-grass, jasmine, licorice, oregano, thyme, ginger, turmeric, marigold, even a tiny pine seedling.
  7. As you get more interested you can make your own flower extracts. This is as simple as putting freshly plucked flowers/leaves in clean water in the sun for a few hours. Or putting the clean flower petals/leaves in a bottle of odourless carrier oil, like grapeseed oil.

Remember scents are not just to be worn as a perfume on your body. You can add them to your massage oils, to your bath water. You can burn them in your house. You can add also them to your food, tea, or clothes freshener sachets, or directly wear the flowers in your hair. In India you see women always wear fresh flowers in their hair. It looks beautiful and also is a ready-to go scent therapy. I have put together this list below only as an indicative list. You might be attracted to these scents depending on the most dominant planet in your chart. There is no correct or wrong, chose what you are drawn to. This may change with time too, depending on transit planets and their aspects on the birth planets.

  1. To increase fiery energies of the Sun, scents of spices like, peppers, like cayenne, eucalyptus, ginger, cinnamon, calamus, camphor, cinnamon, eucalyptus, saffron, heena etc. ‘Warm’ scents.
  2. For the calming effects of Moon, you can try , scents derived from white flowers like white lotus, lily, sandalwood, plumeria etc. Night blooming flowers like jasmine and mogra. These are ‘cool’ and ‘comforting’ scents.
  3. Mercury is a chatty creative planet. You can enhance his powers by using ‘green’ minty scents, holy basil-tulsi, Eclipta alba, passionflower, zizyphus, camomile, cedar, thyme, sage, wintergreen etc. To calm the mind however the ‘cool’ scents may be preferable.
  4. For the Venus dominated personalities, all ‘sweet’ floral fragrances from beautiful flowers, like rose, jasmine, lotus, lily and saffron.
  5. Mars is again a fiery planet so the ‘warm’ and ‘spicy’ scents similar to the sun will naturally appeal. But you can also try garlic, onion, ginseng, loban or myrrh, turmeric, camphor and asafoetida. Red flowers and their scents.
  6. Jupiter is an expansive planet and it is drawn to ‘ghee’ type of ‘fatty’ scents, smells of nuts like almonds, walnuts etc and their oils, tonic herbs like ashwagandha, licorice, ginseng etc. Yellow flowers like daffodils, marigold, calendula and even lotus finds a place here.
  7. You can strengthen your Saturn with scents derived from, myrrh, loban, shilajit, triphala, comfrey root, sandalwood, cedar, frankincense and juniper. Also the scents of dark blue flowers, blue iris, blue violets etc.
  8. For Rahu/North node, camphor, sage, eucalyptus, wintergreen, calamus, sandalwood, lotus, loban, myrrth. He is a shadowy planet so most incenses are good for balancing his energy.
  9. For Ketu/south node, sage, calamus, wild ginger, camphor, cedar, juniper bhringaraj/eclipta alba, passion flower. He likes light penetrating fragrances.

Everything around us is simply pure energy, even our bodies are energy. From one perspective, there is nothing called ‘matter’. Matter is just slowed down energy. Scents are also energy and are a vital part of our lives. We being so busy often miss out, but then a whiff of perfume suddenly reminds us of their beauty. Use what really uplifts you, let your subconscious guide you. Use your perfumes and fragrances mindfully and add more joy to your life!

Other planets influence the Moon

In western astrology, I think the Sun sign is considered the most important. I see matchmaking sites and daily prediction sites which use the Sun sign for the predictions. Sun sign determines your physical energy, your ego, your place in the society etc, and the Sun changes its sign in transit once per month. But in the Indian system we are more focussed on the Ascendant i.e. the sign which was rising at the east when you were born, and we majorly focus on the birth Moon sign. In this post I will cover a bit on how your birth Moon is influenced by other aspects and how this is expressed in your life.

Other planets influence the Moon

Moon is reflection and impression. He faithfully reflects whatever energy rays fall on him. And if you think about this, the mind also always responds to what is happening around it. It picks up impressions and then it reflects the same impression faithfully. A happy event will make it happy and a sad event will make it sad. The function of mind is to respond, to laugh, to cry, to feel happy or depressed on what is happening around it. So the goal of life in Sanatan Dharm is to gain a state of internal stability where the mind is not swayed by what is happening around it. Rather the mind is trained to look deep within itself, and find the internal consistent ultimate joy which it will reflect for ever.

Anyways back to the astrological details. So whenever you have to analyse anything to do with the moon, remember to check out the aspects of the other planets on him. The other planets who are conjunct with him. And the location of the owner planet of the house that he is placed in. These other planets will influence the moon. The Moon is your emotions and your emotion is ultimately who you are. And the emotions change with time, age, locations, surroundings, influence of others etc. eg a beggar will be comforted by a piece of dry bread but you and me really wont look at that piece of bread twice.

Another interesting observation is that all planetary combinations with the Moon allow you to project your feelings on others. for example. Sun is self ego, logical thinking, rational behaviour, confidence etc and if you have sun-moon aspects you will project your these traits on others irrespective of what they are actually.

The moon tells us what will comfort us, what will disturb us and what will make us satisfied emotionally. This is the domain of the mind.

Moon with Mars will link the expression of your energies with your emotions. You will be emotionally competitive and even though others might find this a bit odd, you will find mental comfort in behaving like this. You are confident but sometimes want to be taken care of. Your mother will be a vitally active person and may be an important member of the society. You will receive a lot of nurturing from your father and other father-figures. You will believe in brotherhood and may have several male friends. Your residence will be comfortable. You will like working in places where active physical movement is see. You are emotionally upset by arguments and diseases. You will be most satisfied when you are the first and recognised as the first.

If you have your Mercury influencing your Moon then be prepared to add your emotions into your communication style. Your expressions of creativity will be emotionally charged and you will find it deeply satisfying. You may be a writer or an artist, and the topics on which you write will be the emotions, maternal figures, the homeland, love and friendship. You like analysing and going into details. You may feel happy when you preach or deliver messages from a higher authority. You will take joy in siblings and extended cousins of your same age group. You are emotionally upset if someone preaches to you or scolds you for being immature.

Jupiter is the planet of expansion and when it influences the Moon it will make you emotionally effusive. You will feel emotionally satisfied when you expand, maybe your thoughts, your family, your business etc. You are sensitive to guidance from a higher authority and you often feel like a teacher or a preacher. You will be teaching religious, scholarly or pedantic subjects. You like seeing the overall broader picture and cannot be bothered by nitty-gritty. You are comfortable in being cautious and would not do anything that would make you seem ridiculous. You are apprehensive about appearing silly.

Venus with Moon makes you emotionally involved in relationships. You have several emotionally satisfying and comfortable relationships with your loved one, parents, family members, friends, teachers, neighbours etc. Often in these relationships, you may be the indulgent one, spoiling the other one, letting him have his way. Saturn influencing Moon is one of the saddest combinations I have seen. You are just so emotionally restricted. You do not know what comfort means, you also do not know real rest. You may be well off but still unable to feel joy in what you have. You also work a lot but in that too there is no joy, just duty. You may find comfort in working in a governmental structure. Your mother did not have a happy childhood herself and she is afraid internally of allowing to love now. You have suffered because of this sub-consciously and now express by being blunt and harsh in speech and behaviour. You feel deeply responsible for young children and find comfort in making life comfortable for them. You may have had to become a Parent for your parents. You have no emotional support.

Sun if influencing the Moon makes you highly self focussed, and you derive emotional satisfaction from being entitled. You father may be a prominent member of the society and you have felt security with him. You are the bright king, sensitive yet confident and you are insistent on your own self and your ego. You do not like to share. You are however unaware of other’s emotional needs and are less sensitive to other’s feelings. You are less comfortable in your house but more satisfied when you are in the center stage of politics of theatre.

Rahu influencing Moon makes you emotionally attached to the “want to achieve”. You are emotionally satisfied by the act of the achievement. The object of the achievement is not important. You want more and more opportunities to achieve. You are comforted by the high-risk, the exotic and the unusual and you want to feel exceptional always. Though you may be from a lower status you want to enter higher status by hook or crook. You do not have a moral compass. You find being exotic and passionate comforting and you often disrupt your relationships and social standings. You must guard against over-reaching.

If in your birth chart, Ketu influences the Moon, this makes you makes you unconcerned with emotional perceptions such as empathy, sympathy, compassion etc. You don’t really need any emotional support or comfort. You are emotionally unavailable and generally indifferent to the mother and maternal figures. Probably these were emotionally unavailable or you were abandoned by them. You are not emotionally linked to your homeland and family culture. You are internally the rootless hitchhiker with a need to wander around. You have zen-like awareness of observing everything without any emotional attachment and feel partly like a pilgrim.

So do go through your birth chart and check out which planets are influencing your Moon, your emotions, your feelings and your comfort zones. Do the same for your loved one and compare notes. The Sun is the source of all energy in a horoscope.And just like his energies as in the skies can scorch, his energies in the horoscope can scorch any other planet which gets too close to him. And since the zodiac is essentially a circle and the grahas are also spherical objects the distance where the sun gets too close for comfort is measured in degrees.

If you have your horoscope with you check out the location in degrees of the Sun and the planets nearest to him as below to check if they are combust. If you want a handy app to calculate your horoscope, download any of the phone apps for vedic astrology. For android I have found “Hindu calendar” by developer “Alok Mandavgane” and for iphones “Drik panchang” by developer “Adarsh apps” to be quite accurate and user friendly.

  • Mars if located in the horoscope either 17 degrees before or after the Sun will be scorched by the Suns energy.
  • Mercury – 14 degrees  (12 degrees when retrograde)
  • Venus – 10 degrees (8 degrees when retrograde)
  • Jupiter – 11 degrees
  • Saturn – 15 degrees
  • Moon – 12 degrees is considered by some astrologers to be combust. The other opinion is that moon cannot be combust. However 12 degrees from Sun, the moon is on a Amavasya, no moon visible in the skies. The implications of an amavasya birth are more severe so its immaterial if the moon is theoretically combust or not.
  • The lunar nodes Rahu and Ketu do not become combust or anything as they are just geometrical points on the ecliptic. But if they intersect with the Sun on a full moon or no moon days they lead to eclipses which is an even more astrologically significant phenomenon.

The intensity of the burn and blinding of the planets varies if the Sun is a malefic or benefic for the horosope. And if the sun and the scorched planet receives benefic or malefic aspects from other planets in the horoscope. The planets, who have entered the region within 1 degree of the Sun, are practically ashes, or “asta”. But there is an interesting caizmi phenomenon where the planet is within the orb of the Sun within 17minutes of the Sun’s center. (you can consider a planet being on the same degree as the Sun to be in this extra-close position). In this case it is like the planet is sitting on the lap of the king/Sun. The Sun has in a way absorbed the other planet and can at times express the attributes of that planet to extraordinary heights. In this rare event the attributes of the planet may even be enhanced beyond normal limits and would ultimately be beneficial.

Now lets check out some of the interesting effects of combust planets. These are extreme effects which can be modualted by aspects. Aspects from benefics will make it better and malefics will make it worse.

  • Combust Mars – You have little awareness of the impact of your actions on others, ie from your perspective, the victim is invisible. You are autocratic with a strongly competitive and even violent style of expressing yourself. You will never leave any opportunity to show or exercise your power, You are very proud of your power and positions.
  • Combust Moon –  You will project your own thoughts and beliefs upon others, you believe that your own perceptions are true because they are more ethical or brilliant. You have stronger rational abilities and lesser emotional perception.
  • Combust Mercury – You are clever but distinctively self-focused. You prefer to talk about esoteric topics, politics, drama and genius. Your conversation is self-referential. But your personal experience is less integrated with the experience of others. You may be forgetful or suffer memory loss
  • Combust Jupiter – You and your father always play the center stage. You have no pre malice but you are simply not aware of the needs of your students. You are unaware of the feelings of teachers/preceptors and those who are dependant on their religious faiths. Your own philosophy is rather shallow and based only on own personal experiences. You do not accommodate the philosophical views of others. You have multiple father-figures.
  • Combust Venus – Sun is a very individual graha and Venus is balance but both are arch enemies. You are brilliantly intelligent and physically beautiful, may be a film star perhaps. You behave erratically in relationships, have a strange fashion sense. Your relations are always out of balance and your taste in partners is also erratic.
  • Combust Saturn – You resist creativity, your intelligence and willpower is constrained. Saturn is social convention and Sun is individual creativity and both are bitter enemies. You have an unbalanced autocratic style of running the house. Erratic habits as you cant manage your time. You are not be able to conform to social expectations as you feel you are autocratically entitled to ignore them. Happiness from the father is reduced. Saturn is Sun’s son.

So as you see as above, if you have combust planets in your horoscope it will have a detrimental effect to some extent and you need to consciously work on your personality.

Combust graha have been weakened, blinded and burnt by the Sun. The closeness to sun causes the person to over estimate himself which leads to arrogance and then losses later. Do check your horoscope and if such a graha exists it must be strengthened. You have to consciously intend for this to happen. There will be domineering personalities as indicated by the Sun around you in your environment. These may be older father figures or males in your family or surroundings. The areas of life indicated by the combust plants always suffer from some interference from the father. You have to try to be positive and independent here. Try to develop some activities away from such dominating persons in your life. Live separately, start a separate business etc as you can.

And finally an astrological remedy. If you are so inclined you can light a small copper lamp with sesame oil and cotton wick on the day of your combust planet and recite its beej mantra. This act with Intention will add to its energies and help you express yourself.
