Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

Venus owns the 2nd and the 7th signs/rashi of the Zodiac, Taurus/Vrushabh and Libra/Tula. Thus he is also the natural owner of the 2nd and 7th houses/bhava of the chart. He is the agent/Karak of treasuries and partnerships, of everything that adds value and validation to you. Venus is all the ways you feel good about yourself.

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

Venus is the Ruler of Taurus

This Venus personality has to maintain the resources of value in every sense, from the physical, spiritual, emotional, histories and songs. And he is very good at increasing his collections, hoards and treasuries of every type. He is the soul of every party and knows how to get the mood going. This Venus may sound easy-go-lucky but has an important role in maintaining the social norms and he is very serious about it. He is the custodian of the traditions, knowledge and stories of the family culture. He will resist every change which will unbalance. But his resistance is also beautiful and balanced, the iron fist in a velvet glove. At the very basic levels, he feels good about himself in the society when he has money!

This Venus can get so attached to money and the things that money can buy that he can subsume his personality to these things. He then considers his brotherhood and neighbourhood to be his biggest assets. He is interested in the stability of his homeland and also the welfare of his mother and maternal relatives. This Venus is quite at home with expressing his creativity and being in the public eye.  However he is susceptible to malefic evil eyes and jealousy, which are a result of being too much in the public eye. He is distrustful about equitable sharing of resources with legal partners and prefers keeping it to himself, however secret ways of increasing his assets appeal to him. With his chosen spouse he will be on good terms but there will be an undercurrent of unbalance, of complaints and stress. He is again not very interested in listening to his peers and paternal figures. His profession and actual father are very important to him though. His life philosophy will be to work hard and play hard! And he does gain through his profession and has multiple sources of income. Social status and power is the foundation of this Venus’s life and pleasure.

Attached to idea that he needs to be valuable in the eyes of the society by displaying his collections he will forget that he needs to find his own real personality first. By the time he realises that the validation he receives from society can be quite unpredictable, fleeting and erratic, it might be too late to seek his own Real Self.

Venus is the Banker in Taurus.

Venus is the Ruler of Libra

Venus in his second form is required to maintain legal and equitable partnerships of every type in every context. Personal, professional, emotional, spiritual, counselling, trading, etc, all sorts of relationships are defined by Venus. At the very basic levels he will feel good about himself if he has a good marriage. I have written a detailed post on the inherent balance of Libra here.

Libra seeks balance. Anything that is out of balance or unfair is deeply disturbing to this Venus. He is fair, impartial and quite intellectual here. He bargains and keeps track, if he has given out something he will expect fair returns. The earthy good humour of Taurus-Venus is absent here. Venus-Libra likes refined intellectual company. (I wonder does he even laugh out aloud till tears come in his eyes). His level of intellect can be so rarefied that he sometimes comes across as an intense workaholic driven personality. He is quite secretive about his own resources and his pleasures are also not in public. His favoured company is peers, patrons, religious and spiritual personalities with whom he can interact on the intellectual plane. He is on good terms with his own father and often is involved in a family business, most likely a lawyer! He likes his work and his office soon can become a home.

This Venus loves displaying his creativity in public, in front of an audience of strangers. Stage fright is simply out of the question. His children are also quite the little performers in school plays and lucky in life. His losses, diseases, debts and enemies are few on the physical plane but he suffers in secret. His partners are vigorous, physical leaders. He partners with pioneers and then follows them up creating bargains and alliances. He has few close friends and siblings with whom he connects. He can be very passionate about humanitarian ideals as long as it is fair for everyone concerned.

Venus is the Lawyer in Libra.

Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra

In my personal opinion Venus is even more dangerous than Saturn. Saturn is at least ‘in your face’ straightforward even, if he is going to make you balance your pending karma he will openly do it. You know you are in for a phase of hard work and stress. Saturn and Venus are also best buddies, with Saturn getting exalted in Libra.

But Venus coats every action of his with such sweetness that you never really understand what is really going on. He is the strictest teacher, Daityaguru Shukaracharya, and his karmic lessons are the most difficult because they don’t look like lessons. If you are satisfied with the validation you get from the society or your partners you will not look inside for the real spiritual validation from your Real Self/Moksh. And validation from fellow humans is very dangerous, it is erratic, changeable, un-predictable and volatile.

Back to physical life, if Venus is not in a position to give good results in your horoscope you face an inner sense of invalidation. ‘Un-worthiness’ is created. The only way to get out of this crippling feeling is to understand that you have to first realise your own self-worth! If you can generate this sense of approval, value, worthiness and appreciation for yourself at your deepest emotional/psychological levels this is forever.

If you analyse your marriage and your relationship with your loved one, you will realise that you both basically make each other feel ‘worthy’. Talking, romantic dinners, movies, travelling together, physically touching, gifts, flowers and jewellery is a way that we offer validation to our loved one and expect the same validation in return. If we do not receive this in return we get dissatisfied with the relationship and seek a way out. Else if validation turns into devaluation and criticism we seek to dissolve the partnership. But there is tremendous spiritual and emotional energy in addition to financial, legal and social aspects in this alliance. Thus the dissolution process affects the emotions and spiritual stability of both. So what do you do after this break-up? Search for another human partner for validation or search for your inner worthiness?

In a business partnership also validation exists, the financial statements and the profits you two make together is appreciation and proof of ‘worthiness’. Once this validation is lost eg. the business makes losses you two break the partnership. There is little emotional involvement here so dissolving the partnership consists of wrapping the remaining material, financial and legal issues. Starting with a new business partner or going solo into new ventures next is also comparatively more simple.

So here is Venus the owner of Taurus and Libra. He is not so romantic as he looks. He is a Guru, so he will by the best means possible take you onward on your spiritual journey. He has infinite patience too, so will wait patiently till you ask for his real gifts. Only then will he show you the Ultimate which is behind his facade of beautiful pleasures.

Indications for wealth in a horoscope

Wealth is always important. We need money, assets, property and lands to survive in this materialistic life. In a chart there are several indicators from where we can analyse the assets available. The basic indicators are these following houses, counted from the ascendant in the basic chart with the ascendant as the first house. Depending on the interaction between these, the planets and the aspects, the house owners etc the extent of finances can be determined.

  1. House 1/Ascendant which indicates the social status, situation and environment at birth. Benefics, and aspects by benefics raises the quality of this house which will have life time effects.
  2. House 2 –  This is the house of family wealth specifically available to you. Your family may be rich but if this house is afflicted this family resources may not be made available to you. I have seen a chart, with Aquarius as the 2nd house with Mars, Sun and Ketu in it aspected by Saturn from the 8th. This person’s family is very wealthy but the parents kicked him out without a rupee and he had to build his own wealth himself. Ketu here shows disconnection from family assets.
  3. House 3 – This is the house of local connections. It shows your self made wealth in the environment of the local markets, extended family and neighbours. A strong 3rd house gives you your boldness and confidence in this wealth making behaviour. It also indicates your early education. This same person has Pisces with Mercury and Moon in the 3rd giving him a very analytic mind and he is earning his wealth as a trader and on the stock-markets. He has amazing memory, is walking database of figures and uses his computing powers to generate even more money.
  4. House 5 is the house of creativity and divine intelligence. Thus all sorts of games of chance are located here. Speculation, gambling, genius work here. Higher education is seen from here which in a way leads to future profession.
  5. House 9 is the house of Auspiciousness ‘Bhagya’. It shows your mindset, the beliefs and philosophy that you live your life by. It is the anchor, the foundations of your life, your Conscience. It also indicates the patrons and the paternal figures who are always available to provide help to you. Patronage is a very important component of wealth generation. If you are apprenticed to a well-known personality your way in your profession becomes easier.
  6. House 11 is the house of networks and gains from every possible source. Inter-connected similar-minded groups and interactions with strangers, foreigners, and exotic traders. Fortune and luck in all things possible and storage of personally earned money. A chart I know has Jupiter and Moon in Virgo as 3rd and Ketu in the 11th. He has been earning his own money since he was practically a child of 12yrs, but is not interested in saving, he gives away all his money, to poor students and to needy persons on a one-one basis.

Indications for wealth in a horoscope.jpg

(If you have access to the exact birth time, the divisional charts can be calculated and used for confirmation, the D9 called Navamsha, the D-24 called the Siddhamsha and the D-60 called the Shashthiamsha. But if you are not sure about your exact birth time even by 1 minute, never draw the divisional charts, they will mislead.)

In addition to these houses the following planets also contribute to the money flow

  1. Venus is the agent of beauty, harmony, pleasure and comfort which are generally rooted in having sufficient finances. He also controls bargains, partnerships, businesses, legal dues and equitable sharing.
  2. Jupiter is the natural agent of expansion and magnanimity. He brings abundance in the house he is located in, the 5th from it and the 9th from it.
  3. Mercury is the agent of commerce and communication. he controls transactions, trade and naturally brings manipulative skill with data, finance, and critical analytical skills required to make money.
  4. Also any graha even Rahu if placed in suitable environment can provide wealth.

Now each house is capable of conferring ‘wealth’ related to the matters of that house. Even the 8th house of death can confer wealth in terms of legacies and monies left in wills. So from every house the following houses should be counted to gain a fuller perspective of the real gain from that house. These can also be counted from the position of each planet to analyse gain from the matters governed by that planet.

  1. The 2nd house counted from any house will give the type of and amount of resources and treasures derivable from that house.
  2. The 5th house counted from any house will indicate the creativity and divine intelligence that this house channelizes.
  3. The 9th house counted from every house will show how much wisdom, philosophy and understanding you have gained from the experiences of that house.
  4. The 11th house counted from any house will indicate the profit, the luck and the full and final achievements from that house.

But wealth is a complicated thing. Someone may have plenty of money but may not use it just hoard it, never use it, not even to help the children. Some may earn lots but then spend equally lots, net nil savings. Some may have little money but are happy. Some have lots but are unsatisfied, want even more. These emotional aspects are to be seen from the birth moon sign and its placements. Our Shastra/scriptures say that the person who does not want anything is truly wealthy, this then is the realm of the spiritual!

Indications for wealth in a horoscope

Kama Trikon of the horoscope, desires

The 12 houses of the horoscope are divided into the Dharma Trikon, houses 1, 5 and 9. The Arth Trikon 2, 6 and 10. The Kama Trikon 3, 7 and 11 and the Moksh Trikon 4, 8 and 12.

The root of this Universe is ‘Desire’, Kama. This word can mean the superficial sexual desire which also leads to creation of new life and can also mean the deep Desire of the Ultimate Consciousness to play a Game/Leela called Creation. This Sanskrit word ‘Kama’, is longing, love, will, purpose, deliberation, intention, desire, passion, wish, agreeableness, enjoyment etc, so many layers and layers of meanings depending on the intention of its use. The Nasadiya Sukta of the Rig Ved, (129th Sukta of the 10th Mandala) describes the creation of the universe as the desire of the ‘Unfathomable Intelligence’.

However coming back to the horoscope, the Kama trikon, Desire Triangle, is the houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th. The houses of Desire and everything to do with it. Now lets see how these three houses would mean ‘kama’. What makes up your Universe? At its foundation is the interactions between humans. Our Universe is not us alone, when we interact with others like us, we create and populate our Universe. Thus Kama is this, the desire to be connected to others in one way or the other. From this desire for interconnections the following expectations arise,

  • being financially well-off
  • having a personal source of income through personal job/trade/profession
  • being with siblings, cousins and enjoying a feeling of brotherhood
  • being with a spouse and sexual satisfaction
  • income sources through individual partnerships and network of communities.

Kama Trikon of the horoscope, desires

The Third House

The 3rd house from the ascendant is the house of extended family, neighbourhood and conversations. Our interactions in these limited intimate groups and our first step in the bargains of life is the domain of the 3rd. Our entire life is a series of bargains which lead to cooperation. I tell my son, ‘If you finish your dinner, I will tell you a story tonight’. This is a very agreeable bargain for both of us! Then as we get older we progress to making agreements with our friends, cousins and neighbours. If we make mistakes here they are forgiven and a second chance given to make-up and learn. The style of interaction in this House is one to relatively many, here we learn how to interact with the outer world as per our society’s customs and traditions.

Bhratru-Bhava, the house of brothers is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is the communicator, he is the adolescent who loves to be with his siblings and peer group. He is also the one who intelligently analyses data and classifies and learns from this. Here is where we learn how to deliberate, communicate, trade, cooperate and be bold. This house is also called the Parakrama, the house of boldness.

As we grow up the lessons from this house become the foundations of our self-earned wealth. And we desire our wealth because it makes our lives more comfortable. This house is the 2nd from the 2nd, the second is the house of family treasures. So the 3rd house uses the all resources you have available in the form of family good-will, treasures and reserves and uses them in trade and cooperation. You gain profits from the 3rd. You get an experience in trade, commerce and communication and you also learn how to be bold and courageous going about it. In this house you just don’t desire the money, you also look forward to the regular meeting of associates, the close friends and brothers. Desire is both human company and profit!

The 3rd from the ascendant tells you about how your interactions from these groups is going to be on the external social levels. eg If you have Saturn placed here, naturally it will be restricted, if Jupiter it will be extensive. However to know how these interactions are going to affect you emotionally you will have to check out the 3rd from the birth moon sign. Moon is the significator of the mind and in my opinion is sometimes more important. Eg If you have Jupiter in 3rd from ascendant but Ketu/South node at 3rd from moon sign in the chart, you will have extensive interactions with your large extended family but you will always feel detached/apathetic/dissociated from them.

Kama Trikon of the horoscope, desires

The Seventh House

This house is quite easy to analyse, partnerships in every which way. These partnerships are ruled by Venus, the master negotiator. Venus also replays the same ‘human company and profit’ motif! Here however the human company is more limited to one-on-one and has to be legal. The 7th is also one of the four major foundations of the chart (the other 3 being the 1st, 4th and 10th).

The 7th is the house of all the relationships and interactions that are ruled by law of the land. Thus the legal marriage, matters of the law, court cases, business partnerships, interactions with government agencies, contracts in trade and all human interactions rising from these are the domain of the 7th. This house also governs the relationships with first legal husband/wife, children from second legal wife, maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather etc. Here as the house of marriage, our sub-conscious expects a balanced partnership based on our personal cultural legal environments. This is the house of agreements, contracts, negotiations, fairness and balance. This house desires human interaction through partnerships.

As the 7th has been hyped as the house of sexual pleasure so just a small note. Not all adults have sexual partners but all of us have one significant partnership. This can even be with a deity or an ideology. The 7th is the mirror of the self. It shows you the opposite that attracts you, fills your blanks. Seen in this context the 7th is an exchange of energy one-one between two who desire this as a karmic agreement.

The 7th counted from the ascendant, the planets located here, the position of the 7th house owner and the aspects of other planets, will determine how all these interactions play out on the external, conscious or social level. For determining the sub-conscious impact of the interactions of the 7th you will have to consider the 7th house from the birth moon sign. The 7th from the moon will determine the level of emotional satisfaction and comfort that is received in these extremely personal one-to-one interactions. eg. If you have Saturn placed here you will never feel fulfilment as Saturn constricts and restricts, on the other hand if you have Venus in the 7th house counted from your moon sign, you will always feel the harmony and beauty in all the human interactions governed by the 7th house.

The 11th House

This is the house of gain, profits and luck ruled by Saturn! Luck and Saturn, surprised? Saturn is the strictest karmic teacher of them all but he is the fairest. He will give you exactly how much you have worked for. This house of Saturn gives you all that you have worked for throughout the 1st to 10th houses of the horoscope so far. Thus the 11th is the melting pot of all the human interactions, cooperations, luck and gains in your horoscope. In the 11th you desire the entire network of energy interactions that you have invested in.

Here the interactions are not just limited to your extended family, or legal partnerships! This is like a tradesmen’s fair or a marketplace. You interact with diverse individuals, foreigners, risk-takers, travellers and everyone who shares your interests. Like-minded individuals together make up the 11th. So there is a gradual evolution, from customs-society regulated, to partnerships-legally regulated to common-interests which are now intellectually regulated. This is the real house of fulfilled desire as after the experience of the 3rd and the 7th you are now free to interact with and gain from associates you have chosen purely for their inclinations which match your own. You are not limited by traditions or what is legally approved. This is your house of karmic interactions with every energy in the Universe you have an affinity for!

The 11th from the moon should also be considered, as it stands for all you long for. If your moon is in the 6th house in Pisces, you will always yearn for emotional security, the mother, the homeland, familiar customs, the residence and mental comforts (keyword of the 11th from 6th i.e. the 4th house). Also you will want the father, the profession, the reputation, recognition in the society, and to reach the top of the organisation by working hard for it (keyword of the 11th sign from Pisces i.e. Capricorn). Whether you get it or not depends on the aspects and planets situated here.

This post is about the kama, the desires and the attractions which is in the domain of the mind. The Moon is the mind, and the most important placement in the horoscope is the sign/house of the birth moon as here is where you emotionally perceive what is happenings around you. You could be a king and sad if your ascendant is powerful and moon weak, or you could be a beggar but happy if your ascendant is weak but your moon is strong! So when you analyse the desires of your life as expressed in these 3 houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th do look at the emotional components too. Longings denied and frustrated can have very deep impacts on your psyche. Analyse yourself, try to come to terms with what is allotted to you so that you can find ways to make it better.

Kama Trikon of the horoscope, desires

Saturn gives you status and money

Saturn is the most feared of all the grahas, with a dark forbidding and brooding image. In fact, Shani himself is the agent of fear, we are deeply scared of all the things he is connected to in our horoscopes. And it is a very specific kind of fear, it is payback coupled with responsibility and service! Our own actions from some past life are back demanding balancing. If you can identify these areas influenced by Saturn, you are one step ahead in removing your karmic fears. eg, if your Saturn is in the 12th house, you are likely to be rather uncomfortable with receiving guidance from the subconscious, ancestral spirits, your sleep will be affected etc. But if in some way you are able to affirm and convince yourself that there is nothing frightening about all these things and you trust your Saturn, you will be better able to access what is yours from this 12th house.

Saturn gives you luck and money

I have written a post on his true nature, a strict school-teacher he takes down your illusions related to each of the 12 houses one by one systematically, over his transit time of 30years. He grants maturity and also opportunities to work your way through your karmic backlog and balance your karmic account. And he rewards your efforts and gifts you your due, luck and money and a chance to make your name in the society. As the natural ruler of the 10th sign Capricorn and the 11th sign Aquarius, Saturn makes your work for your successes and these achievements are permanent. Whatever we see and perceive, Saturn puts his ‘legal lens’ on it, Is it as per the Law?, It is as per the Right?, and finally, is It as per your own conscience?.

Now you may wonder Mars is the ‘First Born’, Sun is also the ‘Center stage’, both give power and prestige, so whats so special about Saturn’s gifts?

So how does Saturn compare with Mars? Mars is that fiery energy which is, more often than not, unregulated over-kill! Mars is the ultimate competitor, the warrior and always desires to be first. He is the expression of the vitality of the Self-ego, the energies of the ego in motion. He has huge energy stores for any fight, but lacks the maturity and patience to work and wait for the results. Even if he wins he cannot sit down and consolidate his victories, he will be off on another conquest. He does not have the skill to administer to his victories. He will win a piece of land or a nation but then will be at a loss as to what to do with it next! This is not a long term stable success, it is the Thrill of Conquest!

Saturnine energies and the Solar fire are an interesting comparison too. Saturn is the son of the Sun. The Sun is all about entitlement, he wants it because he feels that he has the right to it. He is the King because he is! He has not worked for it and never will. The Sun dazzles his subjects with his radiance and magnificence. He has a large ego, sense of self importance and is self-righteous. Surya is the self ego and voluntary expression of the will power in action. He is uncomfortable with ideas of equality, service and fairness, and will never mingle with or think of the ‘commoner’. His placement in the chart indicates personal self-authority and self-determination. He is defined by only himself. Even if he works for someone, his attitude will be like he has done the other a favour by working for him. He works only for his self-promotion. If he ever gives it will be an attitude of a king distributing largesse among his subjects. He is, in all ways, the Radiant Ruler!

Saturn and Capricorn

Now, Saturn is obligatory or karmic action. He as the natural lord of the 10th Capricorn thus he is social prestige, class structure, responsibilities of the leader, governance, contribution to the society, recognition by the public and the rule maker. He is also the highly professional and career driven man labouring under a heavy-work load. He is the driven, determined common man who has worked hard to reach the top of the social structure by being patient, persevering and consolidating his position and power. He may not get much of an income from public service. He derives his position from the masses he serves, he has no other entitlement to his throne. He may be born into a family already recognised for its social service thus get a step-up. Saturn works in the 10th and the Mars the 1st  (4th from 10th), enjoys his self-ego, position in society etc, the intangible assets of the personality.

And Saturn being the lord of constraints and restrictions, will give out only that much resources as can be effectively used to the last drop. Only then will he release more resources. He is respected because of the quality of his work and his focus on giving back to the society. This is a very responsible position and is affected by presence of benefic and malefic influences of other planets. The exact opposite house to the 10th is the 4th, residences and comforts and in the dasha periods when the 10th is active, the family-time suffers. This is his House of Labour.

But the gift from Saturn is this, you will feel that inner satisfaction of having worked not for personal glory but for sustaining and improving the society structure. These are intangible assets. And the honor that the society bestows on you for being the efficient administrator will be genuine and permanent. Saturn here is the Servant who becomes a Popular King!

Saturn gives you luck and money

Saturn and Aquarius

Now the second sign that Saturn owns, the 11th Aquarius. Here, he regulates linkages and networked systems, the government, large corporations and even the friend-circle. Shani is into all sorts of gatherings, even fan-clubs! The achievements, gain, material goals and luck in the market ecology and the economy are his domain. The 11th ruled groups are intensely social and established on a complex and regular network of human relationships. Saturn sets up the physical structure of the network, the people and also the regulations to operate it. Everyone irrespective of class and creed is welcome here, just the interests should be common. And naturally here too, it is essential to work if something is to be Gained. Thus the 11th is Saturn’s House of Profits.

In this house of Shani, all the grahas do a good job. From the Negotiator Venus, to the Chatty Mercury, the Regal Sun, to the Pedantic Jupiter, the Comfort-seeking Moon and the Competitor Mars all have something for them in these networks. Even the nebulous Ketu is welcome here and the Rahu, the foreigner the rule breaker the opportunist, is welcome to do business here. However the mode and object of gain for each is different as per his nature. Rahu in the 11th works exceptionally well, this is because these networks have controlled components of risk and foreign-ness and selfish-ness which is the domain of Rahu. So, if you understand the Rules/Shani you can take a Risk/Rahu!

In the 11th, Laabh/Gain, Shani gives the ambitious, the right to aspire, to achieve and to create tangible gains! In the 11th, Saturn earns income thorough every source possible and in the (4th from the 11th) 2nd house Venus stores his treasury as a resource!

Shani is the agent of ethics, the rules that a society lives by and thrives. Shani is the force which makes you work off your karmic debts, helps set you set up your social position, helps set up the society, helps set up the markets, assures gains, and also grants you maturity in the process. What more can you ask for!

So you see, Shani does give you your Luck and your Money, but only after making you work hard for it, so that you appreciate it all the more! A deeply-felt Namaskar of gratitude to Shani for his blessings!
