Gemini, the luckiest ascendant

Perhaps Gemini ascendant is the luckiest of the lot. If you were born with Gemini rising, you have slightly lesser problems and set-backs in life. Your life is generally average, not much ups and downs. But if your ascendant lord, Mercury, is in an auspicious Budh-Aditya yog or influenced by powerful planets etc you can have a happening life with power and the ability to exercise it. Mercury owns your 1st and 4th houses so check if the kendra-adhi-pati combination applies to you. If so you have to be more careful in life, cultivate confidence and command. Mercury is an impressionable planet, able to adapt himself to any situation. He has skills, logic, intelligence and his primary focus is first survival and then coming first in everything he does. Gemini is a dual-natured, airy, intellectual sign, its Gun is Tama, its Gan/group is human/ Manushya. (I have written about the Gemini-Sagittarius axis in depth do go through those three posts.)

Gemini, the luckiest ascendant

Gemini rising gives you an attractive personality, you stand out in a group. You are considered to be beautiful by the norms of your culture. You have a touch of shyness in your demeanour which makes you even more attractive. You are intelligent and this is reflected in your behaviour, you have pleasing manners and are good company. Interact and exchange are your watchwords.

You are quite skilled at small talk, business talk and in fact all sorts of talk, persuasive, communicative. You are ambitious and bursting with ideas, quite imaginative. You can negotiate or romance with your words, charming, a good sense of humour, fun to be with. You can be a good diplomat or a good host, tactful. You know what to speak and to whom, the master of conversation. You do not speak much, ie you are not a chatterbox but when you speak, others listen. You can influence people with your words, inspire them to achieve heights. You can be a good motivational speaker. (If there are some malefic influences you will go to the other extreme of sarcasm, biting wit and hurt with your words.)

You like travelling, you do travel a lot and have extensive knowledge about humans, habits and cultures. You can be a good tour guide or a history teacher! You like social life and alone cut off from your fellow humans makes you unhappy. In social gatherings you are often the one mingling around, you know everyone and everyone knows you. You like people, interacting with people, analysing people, observing people is your hobby. You can meet and make contacts with strangers very fast. Your special skill is to divine others thoughts and predict their actions. A keen observer of human nature and highly intuitive, you can understand people’s thoughts. And then you influence them with your words. Your style of speech can be very emotional and intense. You know which buttons to push. Thus you can push people in the direction you want them to move in. You have a knack of maintaining relations with important persons who can be of advantage to you. Your social group is very large but you are not deeply attached to individuals.  If you feel that a friendship or relationship has run its course you can easily cut ties without a second thought.

Your typical friends are the bold, outgoing, innovative and interesting types. You will get help from your peers and seniors in life. But do guard against cheats and fake people who can enter your friend circle and cause you problems. You are generally open, unsuspicious and sympathetic so dubious characters can take advantage of you. Your ‘friends’ can also become enemies, so beware about trusting them too much.

You have an aptitude for the stage, you can act. And if you sing, you have a good voice. But in a way you are always ‘acting’. Not much on the stage, you act in real life, you are always performing. You can modulate your personality depending on whom you are interacting with, you generally hide your emotions and your true opinions you always conceal. You do not display strong emotions, you do not strongly support any cause in public, mostly ambivalent to the situation, you take it as it happens. You may have your strong personal opinions but you do not let them come in between you and your business.

You are creative and can be a good writer or poet. You use this medium to express your hidden personal emotions and opinions. And because you are the master of communication you can sway others with your written world also. Gemini is a dual sign represented by two human figures. Thus you too have a dual personality, moody at times, you change your behaviour depending on the situation and your mood. Adaptable. so Generally you are more focussed on the broader society rather than your selfish interests. Your like thinking about higher philosophical things even if you are outwardly in material stuff. (But this can go the other extreme way if malefic planetary combinations exist, then you will be very selfish in your actions and highly self-focussed mentally.)

Gemini, the luckiest ascendant

You like spending time with the opposite sex, girlfriends/ boyfriends are possible before marriage. You marry well, the spouse is generally good-natured and the marriage. After marriage, you can make a good spouse as you have an active interest in domestic life and in the children. But generally family relationships are not always very stable. You travel a lot and are interested in humanity as a whole, so a family to you seems to be a very small group and you can lose interest in it very soon. Your involvement in the family life is rather irregular and relationships may not be very deep. This behaviour can lead to a deep sadness in life as warmth in relationships is reduced. This is also related to a mental or intellectual incompatibility with the marriage partner. Both of you think differently. You or your spouse can go through one major illness after marriage which can affect physical intimacy. But overall the married life is generally satisfactory as both you and your spouse are broad-minded, gentle and overall hopeful about the institution of marriage as such.

Your health is generally average. You might suffer from some typical life-long chronic diseases. Nervous or skin related diseases and minor surgeries are possible in life. Some of your aliments will be more of the psychological planes. You always try to keep an overall cheerful personality, so possibly repress your negative emotions, do not give them a healthy outlet. Also you cannot relax easily as your mind is always active. You need to come up with some solution which can silence the mind, only then you will be able to relax thus recover from your illesses. (Soham mantra is a good option as the mind cannot concentrate on two things at once!)

You are analytical, logical, very practical, trade and business can be your expertise. Quite powerful, courageous and ambitious, you can achieve professional heights. You have to earn money by your own hard work and sincere efforts. Initially you may be in service in some routine job, but this does not suit your mindset. You need some profession where you can be personally active, going about and actually doing stuff. You might change jobs from time to time.  Some professions suited to your personality are journalism, architecture, engineering, software, TV, medicine, education, law etc. Any field where public relations are important is yours, as you are characterised by harmony and helpfulness. You can work in groups also as you easily get along with your teammates. You like money and tangible wealth and you earn well in your chosen field. You may also have secret sources of income. But take care and invest your money properly, as maintaining the bank balance can be an issue.

Gemini ascendants have some aptitude for the occult. How this actually develops will depend on the other combinations in the horoscope. There is considerable potential for spiritual progress too. (planets placed in the 9th house will give more pointers). You have a religious bent of mind and follow conventional philosophies and morals. You like getting involved in charitable causes. You are already a student of humanity. When you observe people, you also cryptically infer why they are like that or why typical things are happening to them. You analyse and infer. This sensitivity of the perceptions is a valuable tool enabling spiritual progress. You have the rare knack of leaping to correct inferences even without insufficient data. In a way you are sensitive to ‘other/inner’ cues and pick up hints which others cannot. If your 9th house planets push you towards the inner spiritual you can progress quite fast. Intelligence ie mental ability is a requirement of the student of the occult/ spiritual/ esoteric.

Your most significant drawback is that you are impatient. You cannot sustain interest in one thing for long and are not persistent in your efforts. This denies you your true successes in life. There is a lot of restless energy in you which demands release, so you engage yourself in so many activities that focussing on one of them, pursuing one with full focus is a challenge. You are unpredictable because of your dual nature, you can change course mid-stream and be  happy about it. This can come across as being fickle-minded, as you become indecisive and change your mind frequently. You are light-hearted and do not fully appreciate your responsibilities in life. This does not mean that you will ignore your commitments but just that you do not appreciate their seriousness. You can get argumentative at times and generally these arguments are about small juvenile issues. One thing you must guard against is trusting anyone beyond limits, you are a gentle soul at heart and this can be used against you.

So overall Gemini is a good and easy-going ascendant to have, a bit of everything, from the material to a possibility of the spiritual. This sign of duality in the 1st house grants you choices and also the boldness to choose. So make the most of it.

Moon in Virgo, perfection an emotional need

The environment of Virgo/ Kanya rashi, sets limits on the astral immensity of the Moon. It limits the energy to what can be realistically used/ resolved in this current life. Very pragmatic, practical and yes, perfectionist.

Virgo belongs to Mercury and he is uncomfortable around the Moon. But Moon does not consider him an enemy. Mercury is analysis, precision and database management, he is the impressionable adolescent, highly intelligent, skilful and quick. The Moon is the father of Mercury and no teenager would like his nurturing, protecting Dad in his sign all the time. Every son wants to prove his independence to his Dad. And then there is competition. He wants to show his Dad! The Moon also wants his son to take his resources, use them. Most Virgo-Moon’s suffer from this complicated father-teenage son relationship in their deepest mind. If you are such a birth Moon, do think very deeply on what drives you in this life. If you can pin-point this factor you will feel more well-adjusted in life.

This is also the reason why Virgo is the embodiment of karma. Your focus is on what you are required to do in this current life. You build by offering service. You trade service for karma balance. Virgo is represented by a young woman holding a sheaf of harvested grain in one hand and in the other hand she holds fire, a blazing torch.

‘Limit’ is what happens to Moon in Virgo.

There are always layers of meanings. Moon is your entire self, all the persons you have been, are and will be, across time and lives. The summation of your individual soul’s experience, of karma, of knowledge, of wisdom earned in so many lifetimes is the Moon. Too much awareness of this can drive you mad, so we need ‘limits’. In this life we are limited to this one body. Water will flood and drown if there were no banks to keep it contained. Virgo is the river-bank, the energies of the Moon trained along a channel. Different channels are created to use different aspects of your energy. The humongous information of the Moon is sorted by Mercury into useable bits in Virgo. The focus is very practical and on ‘use’.

You might be aware of so much more but you have the ability to pick up that exact tidbit that you need. Eg you have a huge bundle of files on your desk, but you can accurately pinpoint the one which you need. This exercise requires to to perform an intensive mental analytics first. You are not aware of this mental process, it is so fast! It is like your brain has compartments, every bit of information tagged for easy retrieval. A perfectionist. Highly methodical, your room will be precisely arranged, every detail specifically organized for its utilitarian value. You abhor imperfection. So you make, remake (this might be your actual bed!) and again striving for perfection. This can lead to OCD type of psychological problems later.

1771ba2eeebbfd4835e9b16a6660fc8e.jpg

So to begin with, you are attractive. You first build yourself an attractive shell, your figure and body is well-balanced, the face and eyes are especially beautiful. You dress well, neat and pleasant to look at, very presentable. You dislike carelessness, shabbiness and have good taste. The house is neat and orderly, your cars are well maintained, financial status is stable, you work hard at being comfortable. You are quite practical and would like people around you also to be so. (Your friends think you are fussy!)

The mind is also quite neat and tidy, internally happy and well-organized. You are a good conversationalist, knowledgeable with a good sense of humor. You observe and analyse human nature. You can talk to anyone as long as the topic is non-personal, (you are emotionally repressed sometimes). Logical and with a pleasant voice, you are a treat to listen to. You love music and can dance well, you have rhythm! But you will not take part in anything that seems vulgar or crass! Sophistication, dignity and daintiness is more your style.

You like reading and studying. Formal education is generally good but you also study several subjects informally for your own pleasure. You always keep adding on to your skills. A traditionalist, you prefer sticking to the classic ideas which have been tried/ tested and proved their worth. You are skeptical of new-fangled theories and will not adopt something just because it is the ‘in-thing’. If something is against the accepted norms you can get very critical and demolish it logically. Your opinions are a product of your intensive study, analysis and experiments, and you stick to them. If someone tries to sway you, you resist. You do not attempt to force your beliefs on others either. Never aggressive, you are quietly competent and infinitely patient, a formidable combination!

You have psychic abilities. Virgo has analysed, channelised, filed and catalogued this aspect of the Moon too. Quite convinced about your intuition, you act on these cues. This can freak out people close to you as your behaviour might get strange and, in retrospect, uncanny! Non-religious and organized religion does not appeal to your logical analytical brain. You would rather follow your conscience and intelligence.

You are capable of earning well. Highly intelligent, analytical, decisive, able to pick up the best option, you can work in any field and be really good at it. You think a lot. This is ok to some extent but is often over-done. Every action you perform, you have gone over it in all its permutations and combinations in your mind. Only then do you commit yourself. Even after you commit, you think again from every angle over and over again. Self-doubt and self-criticism is very negative for you, so try to understand that nothing is perfect. Else this will cause health problems connected to the nerves, skin and digestion. Be very careful about your diet and exercise regularly. (Perhaps your mother is a perfectionist or over-worked/ under-appreciated herself?)

There is an emotional requirement for ‘perfection’. You might not realise it but you feel emotionally satisfied when you have performed something perfectly. But ‘perfection’ for a Virgo has very exacting standards which may not be often met. Thus this emotional need is almost never fulfilled.

You are not only about words, you act. You are the silent worker in the background who keeps everything working perfectly. Hardworking, you get tired easily as your body is not internally robust. (You should take adequate rest, a 15-min nap in the afternoon can work wonders.) Helpful and kind by nature, you come across as selective and critical. But despite being so helpful, humble, intelligent etc, you do not have many friends. You are perceived to be self-centered, which you are not! You desire efficiency at all costs, so you are very selective about choosing relationships, things, work, activities which are effective. You will not waste your resources in stuff which is inefficient, this may be a relationship or office-work!

6581469b565a1c943e67b389054e0161.jpg

You are quite loveable, after one gets beyond the outer shield of seriousness. Highly trustworthy, can keep secrets and loyal. Shy, you are devoted to your loved ones, there is a streak of possessiveness in you. Extremely private, you never reveal your emotions to anyone. You project coldness and analysis, taking the emotional immensity of Moon, parceling it into tiny bits, never opening more parcels than you think are useful. You are consumed by ‘practical utility’. Sometimes there is great pleasure in just opening out your arms to the wind and feeling it blow around you. But you cannot do that as you will then question the practicality of doing so (maybe your hair will get tangled in the wind if you do this). If asked, ‘how are you feeling’, you have no real answer. Plain.

Your spouse is emotionally sensitive, not so bothered about facts and figures, very private himself. He may be into meditation, spirituality and contemplation. He is intuitive, so can easily pick up your highly cryptic cues on what you are feeling. But when this happens and he tries to get intimate, you will confuse him by pretending to not feel. Thus a distance can come up in the marriage. You are shy and need a lot of emotional hand-holding (which perversely you are reluctant to accept). Your preferred spouse is Pisces and he is quite capable of doing so, until you confuse him or make him uncomfortable. You do not like your spouse to be demonstrative but yet you want him to be.

You love deeply but lack confidence when it comes to expressing how you feel. There is an in-built insecurity where you feel that if you express your emotions, your spouse will manipulate you using these. But conversely you feel secure with your spouse! This dual mentality with emotions is draining and will adversely affect the relationship. Your rather intuitive and emotionally sensitive spouse will simply get more confused and go find refuge in more mediation! So try to accept that you have emotions and going for a date with your spouse or a movie with a gang of friends is a happy thing. Avoid rationalising and over-analysing emotions, happiness is to be felt not examined. You never initiate break-ups, you are all for maintaining relationships. But because of this confusing facade you present, you have few real friends and often a confused spouse.

What you need is perhaps a hobby. Try to generate interest in at least one thing, not for the analysis but for the abstract experience. You love travel so this can be an option? Be with nature where you can finally relax. Learn to feel.

Some Virgo-Moon-s, especially men, may not marry or get into love/relationships at all. Pisces also represents the abstract and the invisible, the natural 12th house. Here the attraction is towards the inner spirituality, the desire is for personal space, private mediation and contemplation. Those Virgo-Moon’s who do marry, tend to look on their spouse as their anchor to the spiritual realms and often genuinely look to them for guidance.

If you are a Virgo-Moon yourself, you are dedicated and can work tirelessly without acknowledgement. In fact, you will have problems yourself, if you don’t work on solving other’s problems. But as everyone needs a bit of encouragement, do pat yourself on the back once in a while for a job well done. And if your loved one is a Virgo-Moon, do tell him that the selfless service he is offering others is valuable. Virgo souls are really quite beautiful so this should not be very difficult!

Virgo is the natural 6th sign of the zodiac ie it is related to your karmic balance. A dual natured sign can think in several ways thus can create options. Mercury helps evaluate between those options. A earthy sign, ie it is a Vaishya, a trader, knows the value of things and can bargain, make profits. It is Tamasic, ie its energies are enveloping, dense and do not move easily but when they move they are well nigh unstoppable. It is a part of the Arth trikon, ie linked to those things which bring meaning to life. These attributes of the signs and also of the planets are very important. Try to remember their essential natures as this will improve your readings and predictions. Then 30 degrees of this sign is composed of the three Nakshatra, lunar mansions named  Uttara-phalguni, Hasta and Chitra.

Uttara-phalguni nakshatra – This lunar mansion is ruled by the Sun and lies partly in Leo and partly in Virgo. If your Moon lies in the Virgo part of Uttara-phalguni this is how you would be. A combination of Moon, Sun and Mercury will make you brilliant both physically and mentally. You might be a very popular artist, painter, journalist, in politics, a celebrity in some way, your public persona will be well-known.

Hasta nakshatra – This is ruled by Moon himself. There is a very high level of awareness here, internally you are very stable and rock solid, very few things can ruffle your composure. You can be very good doctor or a surgeon or a shamanistic healer. You might be drawn to any rearing, sheltering, protecting, nurturing activity where you use your hands. A hobby can be making handicrafts, perhaps related to your home-culture.

Chitra nakshatra – This lunar mansion is ruled by Mars, lies partly in Virgo and partly in Libra. If you were born in the Virgo portion you will want to create. But you are basically an architect, you can think in the abstract in a way no one else can. That leap of genius is yours. You shine with power and are highly competitive. Highly artistic, your creations are both beautiful as well as dangerous. Very dynamic, maybe you can design weapons! You are highly individualistic, confident and prefer being alone. Of all the Nakshatras, Chitra-Moon is capable of living without marriage or deep relationships. You do not need validation from another living persons. You are self-sufficient in a very intense way.

The Moon mahadasha as per the Vimshottari system is a very fruitful period. For Uttaraphalguni-born this will come in your childhood, you will be building your body mainly during this period. For Hasta-borns you will be born in this Mahdasha. This period will be intensive in ‘building’. You will be building your body and your chakra-system during this time. Connecting with others on very deep levels. The cycles of growth and stability where you consolidate your growth will be seen very strongly here. (And for the Chitra-born, this will come at the very end of life, if you live to be exceptionally old! Most likely you will not experience it.)

Moon builds you, your body, mind, emotions, astral self, your home, comforts, security, etc. He is also a channel through which your individual soul expresses itself. In Virgo he gains precision. He knows exactly what he is supposed to do, how and to what end. He has used the incisive analytics available here, explored several options and has come up with the best possible objective and the best possible way to do it. He feels a bit uncomfortable as this is not his usual way of doing things. (But every father has to adjust himself to his growing-up son!)

Karma of giving away energy

Our energy is always in movement as the universe does not allow stillness. You always move, your thoughts, your body parts, your mind, your vital energy/pran. If you are a part of the Universe, you have to be a part of the movement. You are always exchanging energy, when you speak to others, when you listen, when you eat food cooked by others, when others eat food cooked by you, when you sit next to someone in the bus, all the time. In our lives, we are required to interact with a lot of people, either directly in person or indirectly. When we touch other, eg hug, shake hands, or brush against each other in the train, ie the body touches, the intensity of energy exchange is higher. The heaviest energy exchange occurs when people are physically intimate with each other.

Combust and caizimi planets

A small experiment which you can try out. If you know to see auras, try seeing your and your loved one’s (husband/wife/child) auras interacting. Both sit about 2 feet away from each other and relax. Now in 5 mins or so, on your side where he is sitting, you will feel warmth on your bare skin. Your cheek and neck areas are more sensitive to this. If you focus on the 2 ft space between you two, will see tiny glittery bits separating from your aura, very gently swirling and being absorbed in his aura and likewise. These are very beautiful glitter, their movement is almost hypnotic. Auras of two people never mix, there remains clear boundary always. (I have seen the auras of two people mixing completely just like water-colors do, only once in my life.) The energy exchange is through these glittery particles. If you both are feeling exceptionally peaceful, ask your child to come and sit between you, he will fall asleep in 5 mins! This is the exchange of energy. You and your loved one are very comfortable with each other, so the aura exchange is beautiful, gentle, soothing. Aura exchange between 2 people on similar energy levels is always pleasant. But if this were some random stranger sitting next to you in a train the quality of the exchange would be different. And if it were someone tired, depressed and unhappy it would be even worse for you.

Some of us have an extra load on us, we are bound by karma to give out more energy than we perhaps receive from others. Eg a doctor has to touch people in pain, suffering from diseases. He not only diagnoses them but also gives a part of his energy to them. The higher self of the patient requests relief and the higher self of the doctor spontaneously gives. A psychiatrist has to listen to others suffering from unbalanced energies of the mind. A lawyer has to always argue, and listen to arguments, lie himself and listen to lies. All involve energy.

Everyone is bound by karma to serve. This ‘service’ you perform for others is the domain of the 6th house. If these others are on a lower energy level than you, oppressed in trouble, in pain, disturbed, then you give of your energy. Look at the horoscopes of professionals who are required to interact with the public in a big way eg doctors, astrologers, lawyers, teachers, counsellors, politicians, police-officers etc, you will note certain similarities. In the birth chart, where the rising sign/ascendant is the first house you will see,

  • A loaded 6th house, occupied or aspected by several planets. These planets determine your ‘partner’ in this energy service.
  • Or the lord of the 6th occupying important houses which define the personality and environment.
  • Or the Virgo sign occupying such important houses.
  • Or heavy duty planets influencing Virgo sign, wherever it may be placed in the horoscope.
  • Or Mercury being very prominent in the horoscope and under the influence of powerful planets.

And even in the birth Moon chart where the sign occupied by the Moon is counted as the first house, you will see these same combinations. In this Moon chart, the 6th house counted from the Moon represents the sufferings of the astral body and the service required of you in the astral planes.

I know a horoscope where the Moon himself is placed in the 6th house from the ascendant, so the physical environment of the person, especially during the childhood from 3.5yrs to 22yrs was spent travelling in trains everyday, causing a loss of energy by brushing against adults travelling. This person used to fall ill a lot in childhood, diseases related to ‘coldness’, as the energy of the body was being drained. Also his mother was a continual source of energy loss. Then Saturn was in the 12th house counted from the ascendant, ie placed in the 6th house counted from the Moon. This person was plagued by spirits and other dimensional beings always after him demanding, he could not deep sleep, was always roaming in the astral. This used to scare him, he lost a lot of energy this way too and also fell seriously ill.

So losing energy is a part of life and is also connected to your horoscope placements. But the thing is that you should be aware of what is happening and take corrective action asap.

Karma of giving away energy

I always emphasise grounding cleansing and shielding, wrote a full post on this.

  • Grounding is giving away the negativity to the earth, sort of ‘earthing’ oneself. This is very easy, walk barefoot on the ground for a few minutes once a day and its done.
  • Cleansing is like using energy directly or through tools like, lemons, sea-salt etc. Here you are actively removing the deep seated negative energies, evil eye etc using these tools, ideally once a week is necessary but you can do these cleansing methods daily too if you want to. (Peacock feathers, sprinkling Ganga water, sea salt, rice, pendulums, can be used daily.)
  • Every culture has a system of removing the ‘evil eye ie deep-cleansing. In India the most popular one is this. It is done on a Tuesday or Saturday evening. The oldest person in the house does it for everyone in the family and also for himself if required. He makes paper packets, a separate one for each person. Each packet has 3 dry red chillis, 3 pinches of sea-salt, 3 pinches of black mustard seeds and 3 drops of mustard oil. The intention is to remove the negative energy adhering to the person. This packet is waved over the head of the person 3 times in the clockwise direction and put in a fire. As it burns the evil eye is removed. I have seen that if the negativity was more, the packet burns up strangely and very fast. But this method is a bit harsh on the energy body, sort of scrubs it out!, so it is best performed just once a week.
  • Shielding is essential, you can use a chi-ball to create your energy shield or as I have described in this post on astral defense. This is a daily affair, will take maybe 30seconds in the morning and you can refresh it during the day if you feel like it. Then jewellery, if you can afford gold, silver or copper, you can infuse the metal with the intention to shield and wear it. Amulets are also a good way of combining shielding with fashion. Black threads are worn on the wrist or ankle etc. There are several ways to go about shielding yourself, choose one or a few which appeal to you.

People in high-contact activities should take more care of themselves. They should do activities which increase pran, I have listed these out in my earlier posts, eg sitting in the early morning sunlight, surya-namaskar, visiting high-pran, sea-shore, pine-forests, mountains, etc areas in their holidays, using oil for massage, eat fresh food, fresh vegetable and fruits are very good, keeping tulasi plants in the house. There are so many ways you can do this, just go through my earlier posts for several very easy ways. It is not very complicated either, try to remember/find-out what your grand-parents used to do, what kind of life-style they used to follow. Try to follow that as far as possible. This will be more connected to nature/vital energy and also appropriate to your home-culture also.

And the most important thing is to do your spiritual practice where you sit on your Asan, focus on your third eye chakra, count your breath, 108 breaths, use a mantra Om/ Soham or Hamsa with every breath (will take 20mins) and then sit in the same attitude for at least 10 more mins. Give yourself these 30mins at least once a day, it will replenish your pran from the inside out!

No one is exempted from this binding of the 6th house, serve / suffer, this is the way you have chosen to complete your karmic binding. The only people exempted and that too to some extent are those who choose to leave the society ie take Sanyas and are never seen in habitations again. The very very rare few. These Sanyasi’s choose to dedicate their energies to ‘stillness’. They still the movement of vital energy in their bodies, create a huge potential and then move. They, then, shoot up this pran and then the Kundalini through their Sushumna right to to the top and attain Moksh.

Quality of Life

(This post is a response to this comment from the contact form. ‘I often find myself in a dilemma when I read your posts because you stress upon not touching others and rightfully. I am a therapist by profession and live in a city. I work with children and adolescents and naturally offer handshakes and hugs. I also travel in public buses. I wonder if we are required by karma to share our energy with others? Especially the children in my case? How does one protect then, since certain circumstances cannot be avoided. Thank you for your sound advice’)

Kendraadhipati, functional malefics

The placement and position of the signs in the chart is of prime importance as it can sometimes turn normally malefic planets like Saturn into the biggest benefic and also turn the biggest benefic Jupiter into a trouble maker.

A bit of background,

The 4 Kendra houses are the building blocks of your personality, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th.

  • 1st house –  the overall personality, the overall environment, role in society, will power, health, longevity etc, basically a snapshot of you
  • 4th house – the security, comforts, emotional health, nurture, mother, childhood experiences, basic education, house, lands, vehicles etc.
  • 7th house – husband/wife, partnerships, legal relations, business, fertility, passion, foreign travels, business rivals too
  • 10th house – social presence, power, prestige, profession, salaries, actions done to resolve karma, power, authority in public etc.

Then there are the Dharma trikon houses, the 1st, 5th and 9th. These are the most auspicious houses in the chart. The 5th and 9th are popularly called Kona houses. The 1st is the link between the Dharma trikon’s creativity and foundation and the building blocks of your life, the Kendra houses.

  • 5th – divine intelligence, creativity, expression of creativity, children, self-ego, recognition as an individual, spirituality
  • 9th – all the support you will receive from all sources, your beliefs, patrons, peers, paternal figures, religion, ancestors, your past life merits etc

Now when planet owns a kona house and a kendra house, it is a Yogkarak planet, and gives extraordinary results.

Then there is one more possibility, when a planet owns just the kendra houses. This is possible when the ascendant is Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces. The axis Virgo-Pisces is the most sensitive of the lot and the Gemini-Sagittarius axis is the most happening. I have written about the 7th lord being the Badhak for dual natured signs, and all four of these are dual-natured signs. Also remember the ascendant lord can never give overtly malefic results on his own but can be stopped from giving favourable results by the influence of malefics.

Now,

  • Gemini ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 4th houses. Jupiter owns the 7th and 10th house. So Jupiter will become a functional malefic, the badhak lord.
  • Virgo ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 10th houses. Jupiter rules the 4th and 7th house. Again Jupiter becomes the functional malefic, the badhak planet.
  • Sagittarius ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 4th houses. Mercury owns the 7th and 10th houses. Here Mercury is a functional malefic as the badhak lord.
  • Pisces ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 10th houses. Mercury owns the 4th house and 7th house and is the functional badhak planet.

If the functional malefic, badhak here is actually occupying his own sign the results are most severely unfavourable. If he just aspecting his own sign, then the results are less severe. This planet will cause more problems in his Vimshottari mahadasha/ antardasha periods. If neither occupying nor aspecting his own sign this Jupiter or Mercury, loses his functional malefic nature and gives his usual benefic results.

So the worst case scenario for these four ascendants will be if both Mercury and Jupiter both occupy their own signs. Both will be giving unpleasant results in life. The ascendant lord will be prevented from giving his auspicious results and the badhak lord will freely give his undesirable results in full dose.

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics..

There is a logic to this. The Kendra houses are the the basic building blocks of our life and most of our activities are related to these keywords. Both Jupiter and Mercury are generally mild natured planets. Jupiter is quite the philosophical elder and Mercury is the impressionable adolescent. If these are to look after these important aspects of someone’s life you can imagine his personality to be mild, gullible often taken advantage of. So for these specific ascendant signs, Jupiter / Mercury have to lose their benefic natures and become somewhat ‘cruel’ so as to better guard these houses. As they gain ‘cruelty’, they stop giving their usual benefic results, often bringing obstructions and obstacles.

Then the best balance would be if Mercury or Jupiter aspects his own sign rather than occupying it so that he is able to give some of his benefic results as well retain a bit of ‘cruelty’ for his guard duty.

In any chart, if there are overtly malefic planets placed in the Kendra houses they will cause problems. These four houses, 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th are linked to things which directly affect you in a very intense way, physically, emotionally, financially and socially. So be very careful in analysing the influences here. And don’t be scared of fancy names like ‘dosh/defect’. Is is just a reminder that you should be careful in handling the keywords related to these houses. A bit of extra-awareness is most often the easiest solution to an astrological ‘dosh’. You can also perform the two remedies as recommended by Maharishi Parashar, mantra and daan.

(This is called Kendra adhi pati dosh in Jyotish. Have avoided using the technical name so that you don’t get put off with the terminology and understand the concept first.)

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics

The darker side of the 3rd house

The 3rd house is a rather typical house, it can become rather malefic with severe repercussions on the entire personality if it chooses to. It is a Upachaya house and is often a shadowy house.

The 3rd house in some Jyotish texts is considered as a house of turmoil/dushamsthan along with the 6th, 8th and 12th houses. It can definitely cause turmoil in the chart! I have observed that in the current age that we live in, this 3rd house can be quite useful (unless it is heavily damaged by malefics). We live in the age of Mercury, dominated by communication on a global scale, it is a superficial world, where we often act, need to act, fast and decisively. If this house is moderately influenced by malefics it can actually be an asset, as it gives a rough sort of courage and boldness, which is perhaps required today.

The third house is naturally ruled by Mercury with Gemini being the third sign of the zodiac. And where Mercury is, you can expect typical problems, mental thought patterns, ability to concentrate, willingness to act, stability of the mind, the way you think, desire to learn/study. The chest and the respiratory system. And because it rules the hands it is the first step to action! Hands are the most important tools you have, you touch, manipulate, use, push, pull, love with your hands. Your hands are how you act. Mercury, the impressionable adolescent of astrology here chooses to think and act.

The darker side of the 3rd house

The basic birth chart will give the manifested reality and the 9th divisional chart/Navamsha gives the potential, evaluate both to get a true picture. You can build the picture using the keywords of the planet and the house together.

First the worst case scenario, most often seen in criminals. Now if this house is influenced by malefics alone, it can cause immeasurable harm. The Sun, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars if let loose here, without any support from the benefics Jupiter or Venus can wreck Mercury. Such a person can suffer physical damage often from miscalculation of risks while in action, e.g. while driving, in short journeys, while playing games, etc. Damage, delay, frustration in education, obstacles in work, emotional damage often projected as cruel and unstable behaviour. Physical deformity like arms amputated from birth. If the influencing malefics are of a similar nature then there is a tendency for self harm or early death either by suicide, accident or even as a punishment! If the influencing malefics are of dissimilar natures then the personality can be violent, crooked, criminal and heartless.

If the Moon gets caught here, under the influence of malefics, then it can result in mental problems, depression, and psychiatric problems.

One of the worst placements in the chart would be a Ketu in the 3rd. This single planet here can cause havoc, especially if he is aspected by malefics and not by benefics. Even in transit such a lone Ketu can cause severe problems here. Mental restlessness, frustration, exiles, detentions, imprisonment, diseases of the chest and lungs etc. A Ketu in the 3rd would mean a Rahu in the 9th, which will impact the ‘foundations’ of your life. The help from the ancestors, peers and patrons will not be forthcoming. Also the deep philosophy that one lives his life by will be tainted by Rahu’s typical over-reaching, fake, acquisitive, greedy behaviour.

Saturn here will create a hesitant, overly cautious, cowardly personality who is scared to take initiatives in his life. He will also impact the intelligence, creativity and connection to the divine (aspect on 5th house), constrain the 9th house and give a negative impact on the entire personality and his environment by his aspect on the 1st house. Saturn+Ketu gives a violent criminal personality.

A Mars alone in the 3rd will create outbursts of uncontrolled force, death in accidents, injuries by sharp weapons, bloodshed, crimes of passion and temper, action without regard to consequences. A Mars aspected by benefics can create revolutionaries, brave, fiery, analytical military leader with a great sense of strategy and personal integrity. But Mars with other malefics can cause problems. Mars+Rahu will give brain/mental related problems at some point of life. A Mars+Rahu or Mars+Saturn can typically deny marriage or cause infertility. Especially if such a Mars is in a fiery sign then his effects will be more intense.

A Sun in the 3rd if poised to give bad results can give criminals who are ultimately executed by the government. Sun is also creativity, so such persons may be genius, artists, scientists, etc whose lives often take a tragic fatal turn. e.g. Ketu+Sun typically can give death by hanging, in fire or by poisons.

However you will rarely see such heavily afflicted charts in your regular life, these are the anti-social elements, oddly eccentric individuals whose career is generally cut short by death or isolation. A heavily afflicted 3rd house does not allow the native to roam at large for long. (A rather morbid study would be to analyse the charts of people who either committed suicide or were executed.)

If malefics are placed singly with/aspected by benefics in the 3rd house they can give good results. There would of course be conflicts in life, some delays and hindrances. This house belongs to the impressionable Mercury so he allows all the resident planets their expression initially in a juvenile manner. Thus its results improve with age as the planets and the houses mature. The best part is that here a good influence from Venus/Jupiter can counter-balance the malefic influences if any.

However in my opinion, the best option for the 3rd house is, it remains vacant and/or aspected by benefics.

The darker side of the 3rd house

(There was a question on the 3rd house being a dushamsthan and a upachhaya house etc, hope this post was of some help)
