Karma of giving away energy

Our energy is always in movement as the universe does not allow stillness. You always move, your thoughts, your body parts, your mind, your vital energy/pran. If you are a part of the Universe, you have to be a part of the movement. You are always exchanging energy, when you speak to others, when you listen, when you eat food cooked by others, when others eat food cooked by you, when you sit next to someone in the bus, all the time. In our lives, we are required to interact with a lot of people, either directly in person or indirectly. When we touch other, eg hug, shake hands, or brush against each other in the train, ie the body touches, the intensity of energy exchange is higher. The heaviest energy exchange occurs when people are physically intimate with each other.

Combust and caizimi planets

A small experiment which you can try out. If you know to see auras, try seeing your and your loved one’s (husband/wife/child) auras interacting. Both sit about 2 feet away from each other and relax. Now in 5 mins or so, on your side where he is sitting, you will feel warmth on your bare skin. Your cheek and neck areas are more sensitive to this. If you focus on the 2 ft space between you two, will see tiny glittery bits separating from your aura, very gently swirling and being absorbed in his aura and likewise. These are very beautiful glitter, their movement is almost hypnotic. Auras of two people never mix, there remains clear boundary always. (I have seen the auras of two people mixing completely just like water-colors do, only once in my life.) The energy exchange is through these glittery particles. If you both are feeling exceptionally peaceful, ask your child to come and sit between you, he will fall asleep in 5 mins! This is the exchange of energy. You and your loved one are very comfortable with each other, so the aura exchange is beautiful, gentle, soothing. Aura exchange between 2 people on similar energy levels is always pleasant. But if this were some random stranger sitting next to you in a train the quality of the exchange would be different. And if it were someone tired, depressed and unhappy it would be even worse for you.

Some of us have an extra load on us, we are bound by karma to give out more energy than we perhaps receive from others. Eg a doctor has to touch people in pain, suffering from diseases. He not only diagnoses them but also gives a part of his energy to them. The higher self of the patient requests relief and the higher self of the doctor spontaneously gives. A psychiatrist has to listen to others suffering from unbalanced energies of the mind. A lawyer has to always argue, and listen to arguments, lie himself and listen to lies. All involve energy.

Everyone is bound by karma to serve. This ‘service’ you perform for others is the domain of the 6th house. If these others are on a lower energy level than you, oppressed in trouble, in pain, disturbed, then you give of your energy. Look at the horoscopes of professionals who are required to interact with the public in a big way eg doctors, astrologers, lawyers, teachers, counsellors, politicians, police-officers etc, you will note certain similarities. In the birth chart, where the rising sign/ascendant is the first house you will see,

  • A loaded 6th house, occupied or aspected by several planets. These planets determine your ‘partner’ in this energy service.
  • Or the lord of the 6th occupying important houses which define the personality and environment.
  • Or the Virgo sign occupying such important houses.
  • Or heavy duty planets influencing Virgo sign, wherever it may be placed in the horoscope.
  • Or Mercury being very prominent in the horoscope and under the influence of powerful planets.

And even in the birth Moon chart where the sign occupied by the Moon is counted as the first house, you will see these same combinations. In this Moon chart, the 6th house counted from the Moon represents the sufferings of the astral body and the service required of you in the astral planes.

I know a horoscope where the Moon himself is placed in the 6th house from the ascendant, so the physical environment of the person, especially during the childhood from 3.5yrs to 22yrs was spent travelling in trains everyday, causing a loss of energy by brushing against adults travelling. This person used to fall ill a lot in childhood, diseases related to ‘coldness’, as the energy of the body was being drained. Also his mother was a continual source of energy loss. Then Saturn was in the 12th house counted from the ascendant, ie placed in the 6th house counted from the Moon. This person was plagued by spirits and other dimensional beings always after him demanding, he could not deep sleep, was always roaming in the astral. This used to scare him, he lost a lot of energy this way too and also fell seriously ill.

So losing energy is a part of life and is also connected to your horoscope placements. But the thing is that you should be aware of what is happening and take corrective action asap.

Karma of giving away energy

I always emphasise grounding cleansing and shielding, wrote a full post on this.

  • Grounding is giving away the negativity to the earth, sort of ‘earthing’ oneself. This is very easy, walk barefoot on the ground for a few minutes once a day and its done.
  • Cleansing is like using energy directly or through tools like, lemons, sea-salt etc. Here you are actively removing the deep seated negative energies, evil eye etc using these tools, ideally once a week is necessary but you can do these cleansing methods daily too if you want to. (Peacock feathers, sprinkling Ganga water, sea salt, rice, pendulums, can be used daily.)
  • Every culture has a system of removing the ‘evil eye ie deep-cleansing. In India the most popular one is this. It is done on a Tuesday or Saturday evening. The oldest person in the house does it for everyone in the family and also for himself if required. He makes paper packets, a separate one for each person. Each packet has 3 dry red chillis, 3 pinches of sea-salt, 3 pinches of black mustard seeds and 3 drops of mustard oil. The intention is to remove the negative energy adhering to the person. This packet is waved over the head of the person 3 times in the clockwise direction and put in a fire. As it burns the evil eye is removed. I have seen that if the negativity was more, the packet burns up strangely and very fast. But this method is a bit harsh on the energy body, sort of scrubs it out!, so it is best performed just once a week.
  • Shielding is essential, you can use a chi-ball to create your energy shield or as I have described in this post on astral defense. This is a daily affair, will take maybe 30seconds in the morning and you can refresh it during the day if you feel like it. Then jewellery, if you can afford gold, silver or copper, you can infuse the metal with the intention to shield and wear it. Amulets are also a good way of combining shielding with fashion. Black threads are worn on the wrist or ankle etc. There are several ways to go about shielding yourself, choose one or a few which appeal to you.

People in high-contact activities should take more care of themselves. They should do activities which increase pran, I have listed these out in my earlier posts, eg sitting in the early morning sunlight, surya-namaskar, visiting high-pran, sea-shore, pine-forests, mountains, etc areas in their holidays, using oil for massage, eat fresh food, fresh vegetable and fruits are very good, keeping tulasi plants in the house. There are so many ways you can do this, just go through my earlier posts for several very easy ways. It is not very complicated either, try to remember/find-out what your grand-parents used to do, what kind of life-style they used to follow. Try to follow that as far as possible. This will be more connected to nature/vital energy and also appropriate to your home-culture also.

And the most important thing is to do your spiritual practice where you sit on your Asan, focus on your third eye chakra, count your breath, 108 breaths, use a mantra Om/ Soham or Hamsa with every breath (will take 20mins) and then sit in the same attitude for at least 10 more mins. Give yourself these 30mins at least once a day, it will replenish your pran from the inside out!

No one is exempted from this binding of the 6th house, serve / suffer, this is the way you have chosen to complete your karmic binding. The only people exempted and that too to some extent are those who choose to leave the society ie take Sanyas and are never seen in habitations again. The very very rare few. These Sanyasi’s choose to dedicate their energies to ‘stillness’. They still the movement of vital energy in their bodies, create a huge potential and then move. They, then, shoot up this pran and then the Kundalini through their Sushumna right to to the top and attain Moksh.

Quality of Life

(This post is a response to this comment from the contact form. ‘I often find myself in a dilemma when I read your posts because you stress upon not touching others and rightfully. I am a therapist by profession and live in a city. I work with children and adolescents and naturally offer handshakes and hugs. I also travel in public buses. I wonder if we are required by karma to share our energy with others? Especially the children in my case? How does one protect then, since certain circumstances cannot be avoided. Thank you for your sound advice’)

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics

The placement and position of the signs in the chart is of prime importance as it can sometimes turn normally malefic planets like Saturn into the biggest benefic and also turn the biggest benefic Jupiter into a trouble maker.

A bit of background,

The 4 Kendra houses are the building blocks of your personality, the 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th.

  • 1st house –  the overall personality, the overall environment, role in society, will power, health, longevity etc, basically a snapshot of you
  • 4th house – the security, comforts, emotional health, nurture, mother, childhood experiences, basic education, house, lands, vehicles etc.
  • 7th house – husband/wife, partnerships, legal relations, business, fertility, passion, foreign travels, business rivals too
  • 10th house – social presence, power, prestige, profession, salaries, actions done to resolve karma, power, authority in public etc.

Then there are the Kona houses, the 1st, 5th and 9th. These are the most auspicious houses in the chart. The 1st is a Kendra as well as a Kona house.

  • 5th – divine intelligence, creativity, expression of creativity, children, self-ego, recognition as an individual, spirituality
  • 9th – all the support you will receive from all sources, your beliefs, patrons, peers, paternal figures, religion, ancestors, your past life merits etc

Now when planet owns a kona house and a kendra house, it is a Yogakark planet (detailed post here), and gives extraordinary results.

Then there is one more possibility, when a planet owns just the kendra houses. This is possible when the ascendant is Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces. And as you know the axis Virgo-Pisces is the most sensitive of the lot and the Gemini-Sagittarius axis is the most happening. (A bit of revision, I had written about the 7th lord being the Badhak for dual natured signs, and all four of these are dual-natured signs.) Also remember the ascendant lord can never give overtly malefic results.

Now,

  • Gemini ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 4th houses. Jupiter owns the 7th and 10th house. So Jupiter can become a functional malefic and it is also the badhak lord.
  • Virgo ascendant, Mercury owns the 1st and 10th houses. Jupiter rules the 4th and 7th house. Again Jupiter becomes the functional malefic and is also the badhak planet.
  • Sagittarius ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 4th houses. Mercury owns the 7th and 10th houses. Here Mercury is the functional malefic and also the badhak lord.
  • Pisces ascendant, Jupiter rules the 1st and 10th houses. Mercury owns the 4th house and 7th house and is the functional malefic as well as the badhak planet.

If the functional malefic here is actually occupying his own sign the results are most severe. If he just aspecting his own sign, then the results are less severe. It causes more problems in his Vimshottari mahadasha/antardasha periods. If neither occupying nor aspecting his own sign this Jupiter or Mercury, loses his functional malefic nature and gives his usual benefic results.

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics..

There is a logic to this. The Kendra houses are the the basic building blocks of our life and most of our activities are related to these keywords. Both Jupiter and Mercury are generally mild natured planets. Jupiter is quite the philosophical elder and Mercury is the impressionable adolescent. If these are to look after these important aspects of someone’s life you can imagine his personality to be mild, gullible often taken advantage of. So for these specific ascendant signs, Jupiter / Mercury lose their benefic natures and become ‘cruel’ so as to better guard these houses. However as they gain ‘cruelty’, they then do not give their usual benefic results and can bring obstructions and obstacles.

Then finally the best balance would be if the Mercury /Jupiter aspects his own sign rather than occupying it so that he is able to give some of his benefic results as well retain a bit of ‘cruelty’ for his guard duty!

And in any chart, if there are overtly malefic planets placed in the Kendra houses they cause problems. These four houses, 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th are linked to things which directly affect you in a very intense way, physically, emotionally, financially and socially. So be very careful in analysing the influences here. And don’t be scared of fancy names like ‘dosh/defect’. Is is just a reminder that you should be careful in handling the keywords related to these houses. A bit of extra-awareness is most often the easiest solution to astrological ‘dosh’.

(This is called Kendra-adhi-pati dosh in Jyotish. Have avoided using the technical name so that you dont get put off with the terminology and understand the concept first.)

Kendra-adhi-pati, functional malefics

(There was a question on this in the Contact form and as it is linked to the Gemini-Sagittarius axis too, so wrote it)

The darker side of the 3rd house

The 3rd house is a rather typical house, it can become rather malefic with severe repercussions on the entire personality if it chooses to. It is a Upachaya house and is often a shadowy house.

The 3rd house in some Jyotish texts is considered as a house of turmoil/dushamsthan along with the 6th, 8th and 12th houses. It can definitely cause turmoil in the chart! I have observed that in the current age that we live in, this 3rd house can be quite useful (unless it is heavily damaged by malefics). We live in the age of Mercury, dominated by communication on a global scale, it is a superficial world, where we often act, need to act, fast and decisively. If this house is moderately influenced by malefics it can actually be an asset, as it gives a rough sort of courage and boldness, which is perhaps required today.

The third house is naturally ruled by Mercury with Gemini being the third sign of the zodiac. And where Mercury is, you can expect typical problems, mental thought patterns, ability to concentrate, willingness to act, stability of the mind, the way you think, desire to learn/study. The chest and the respiratory system. And because it rules the hands it is the first step to action! Hands are the most important tools you have, you touch, manipulate, use, push, pull, love with your hands. Your hands are how you act. Mercury, the impressionable adolescent of astrology here chooses to think and act.

The darker side of the 3rd house

The basic birth chart will give the manifested reality and the 9th divisional chart/Navamsha gives the potential, evaluate both to get a true picture. You can build the picture using the keywords of the planet and the house together.

First the worst case scenario, most often seen in criminals. Now if this house is influenced by malefics alone, it can cause immeasurable harm. The Sun, Saturn, Rahu, Ketu or Mars if let loose here, without any support from the benefics Jupiter or Venus can wreck Mercury. Such a person can suffer physical damage often from miscalculation of risks while in action, e.g. while driving, in short journeys, while playing games, etc. Damage, delay, frustration in education, obstacles in work, emotional damage often projected as cruel and unstable behaviour. Physical deformity like arms amputated from birth. If the influencing malefics are of a similar nature then there is a tendency for self harm or early death either by suicide, accident or even as a punishment! If the influencing malefics are of dissimilar natures then the personality can be violent, crooked, criminal and heartless.

If the Moon gets caught here, under the influence of malefics, then it can result in mental problems, depression, and psychiatric problems.

One of the worst placements in the chart would be a Ketu in the 3rd. This single planet here can cause havoc, especially if he is aspected by malefics and not by benefics. Even in transit such a lone Ketu can cause severe problems here. Mental restlessness, frustration, exiles, detentions, imprisonment, diseases of the chest and lungs etc. A Ketu in the 3rd would mean a Rahu in the 9th, which will impact the ‘foundations’ of your life. The help from the ancestors, peers and patrons will not be forthcoming. Also the deep philosophy that one lives his life by will be tainted by Rahu’s typical over-reaching, fake, acquisitive, greedy behaviour.

Saturn here will create a hesitant, overly cautious, cowardly personality who is scared to take initiatives in his life. He will also impact the intelligence, creativity and connection to the divine (aspect on 5th house), constrain the 9th house and give a negative impact on the entire personality and his environment by his aspect on the 1st house. Saturn+Ketu gives a violent criminal personality.

A Mars alone in the 3rd will create outbursts of uncontrolled force, death in accidents, injuries by sharp weapons, bloodshed, crimes of passion and temper, action without regard to consequences. A Mars aspected by benefics can create revolutionaries, brave, fiery, analytical military leader with a great sense of strategy and personal integrity. But Mars with other malefics can cause problems. Mars+Rahu will give brain/mental related problems at some point of life. A Mars+Rahu or Mars+Saturn can typically deny marriage or cause infertility. Especially if such a Mars is in a fiery sign then his effects will be more intense.

A Sun in the 3rd if poised to give bad results can give criminals who are ultimately executed by the government. Sun is also creativity, so such persons may be genius, artists, scientists, etc whose lives often take a tragic fatal turn. e.g. Ketu+Sun typically can give death by hanging, in fire or by poisons.

However you will rarely see such heavily afflicted charts in your regular life, these are the anti-social elements, oddly eccentric individuals whose career is generally cut short by death or isolation. A heavily afflicted 3rd house does not allow the native to roam at large for long. (A rather morbid study would be to analyse the charts of people who either committed suicide or were executed.)

If malefics are placed singly with/aspected by benefics in the 3rd house they can give good results. There would of course be conflicts in life, some delays and hindrances. This house belongs to the impressionable Mercury so he allows all the resident planets their expression initially in a juvenile manner. Thus its results improve with age as the planets and the houses mature. The best part is that here a good influence from Venus/Jupiter can counter-balance the malefic influences if any.

However in my opinion, the best option for the 3rd house is, it remains vacant and/or aspected by benefics.

The darker side of the 3rd house

(There was a question on the 3rd house being a dushamsthan and a upachhaya house etc, hope this post was of some help)

Use your Mercury

Mercury rules two signs thus subtly influences the 3rd and 6th house of the chart too. He is the impressionable adolescent of the chart. So while evaluating him, you have to analyse the other planets influencing/aspecting/conjunct him. Check out the position of the planetary ruler of the house he is placed in. Also, if he is behaving abnormally by being combust, debilitated or retrograde. A general observation is that he can perform well if placed in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th and the 7th houses, if he gets guidance from benefic influences then it would be better. He behaves like an irresponsible adolescent in the 3rd, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th more so if he has no benefic influences to guide him.

pexels-photo-255441-min

(Look for one exceptional combust event called caizmi, it is when the planet is less than 1deg from the Sun. Here the Sun consumes the planet and takes on his powers completely. The planet is sitting on the lap of the king Sun. So here his powers are more radiant, completely directed inwards and very good for spiritual growth. Mercury tells you how to go about it, so after the maturity age of Mercury, your Sun+Mercury will drive your spiritual growth’s engine.)

Mercury is often with the Sun as he is never 30deg away from him in the sky, he is quite friendly with the Sun, Venus and Rahu. He dislikes the Moon and Jupiter and is neutral to Mars, Saturn and Ketu.

Mercury is pure intellect coupled with communication and the courage when you know that you are correct. Technical knowledge, ‘how to do’ gives him power. Reasoning, intellect, discrimination, analysis, expression and objective, to the point stuff is his forte. So if he misbehaves a lot can go wrong in your life on the physical and psychological levels. Mantras are Sanskrit, this language ‘defines Light’ (Dev Bhasha) in the most perfect way (Sams-krutam). Thus they are the domain of Mercury. The seed of power intentionally put to use. I always suggest beej mantra because they are the easiest to remember and pronounce. Especially with so few people actually learning/knowing Sanskrit, if I tell them to recite/jaap long stotras/suktas they will just not do it. But beej mantras are the easiest and the most potent, so perfect.

The fastest remedy thus would be reciting the beej mantra of Mercury once, thrice or 108 times on a Wednesday. ‘Om braang breeng broung sah Budhaya namah’ Om.

But there are so many tiny things you can do to increase or regulate and balance Mercury’s energies in your life. Some of which I have written in my previous post on boldnessHere are few more such tiny things.

  1. Be aware of your mouth, teeth and tongue, Mercury is communication, your mouth and throat. So best is brushing your teeth and tongue twice a day. It may sound silly but it works.
  2. Breathe. Do some breathing exercises like pranayam for a few minutes everyday.
  3. Wear a bit of jewellery made from copper, silver or gold.
  4. Mercury likes analysis, so if you feel drawn to it, solve puzzles. There are so many apps which offer innovative puzzles. Do a puzzle a day.
  5. Read about the colors, smells/fragrances and food tastes linked to the planets in these posts. If you feel inclined, try to them in your life

Mercury is often ignored, but he is in a way, the other face of the Moon. The Moon gives him the data from his unfathomable depths and he uses this data meaningfully to gain insights and learn. Mercury tells you how to use the things you have.

Use your Mercury

Find your courage astrologically

‘Boldness’ in astrological terms is the domain of the 3rd house. ‘Parakrama’, valour and courage in a horoscope is seen from here. So to find out how brave you are in life, pull out your chart. The physical environment and the manifested stuff is the D-1, so in your regular chart which has your rising sign as the 1st house check these out.

  1. Do a quick overview of the ascendant sign and ascendant lord and your birth moon placement and then get down to the actual 3rd house.
  2. The sign placed in the 3rd house, and its owner planet. Also where is this owner planet placed?
  3. The planets placed in this 3rd house and which houses do they own
  4. Check out the power of all these planets to give results. Are they retrograde, debilitated, exalted, combust, malefic or benefic, or conjunct with malefics, or aspected by malefics/benefics. Are they with friendly/enemy planets? In short, how comfortable these planets are and how well will they give their results.
  5. Now the natural 3rd sign of the zodiac is Gemini and Mercury is its owner. So check out how these two are placed in your chart, as they will exert a subtle influence wherever they might be placed.

Next your emotional context from the birth moon chart, the same one as above redrawn with your birth moon sign as the 1st house. How do you really feel being courageous and bold in front of others. Are you outwardly quite outgoing but internally cringe at the thought of giving a presentation? For this you will analyse the 3rd house counted from the birth moon sign in the same way as you did above. e.g. you have Saturn placed here he will restrict and constrict your personal courage, Jupiter will help benevolently expand, Mars will add aggressiveness and competition, Mercury will make it analytical and communicative, Sun will make it self-referential and a bit egoistic, Venus will want balance and beauty, Rahu will make it calculative, sneaky even and Ketu here will cause you to be not too bothered about how strongly you take a stand in life!

The astral/subconscious expectations from your D-9 Navamsha chart. If you know your exact birth time, I do advise checking out the divisional chart 9. (Any Vedic astrology software will give this chart.) This gives a glimpse into your deeper astral self and on what is potentially available with you. If you have the potential you can consciously manifest it in your life. You might check these two things. (If you find it is too complicated, leave it!)

  1. The 3rd house sign from the D-1 above, where has it shifted to? If it shifts to any of the dushamsthana (6th, 8th or 12th houses) or has been occupied by malefic planets here, its potential will reduce.
  2. The owner of the 3rd house of the D-1, where does he shift to? If it lands up in ‘good houses’, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th it will increase the potential.

Find your courage astrologically

So now you have a fair idea of how well you can speak up. Some of us can’t, here are a few things you can do to attract the energies of courage into yourself. Choose to change yourself!

Communicate, start talking – When you have 2 mins free, stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself the one thing that interested you in your day today. Describe your car, your lunch, the weather, your grocery shopping, something that scared you, the smell of a perfume, anything that registered. Observe your face and body language as you do this. Encourage yourself!

Sing – Being a bathroom singer is a good idea! Your favourite song, just a few lines, just for a couple of minutes a day. Or hum along any random tune, gets rid of stress.

Write something – Just a couple of lines a day. A thought, or something you said or heard, something that touched you, made an impact, made you happy or sad, anything, but write. This is your personal thing so be true to yourself. Keep a secret diary.

Learn a new word every day – There are so many dictionary apps, download one and learn a new word a day. A word is a tiny thing, but this will tell your mind that you are anticipating something new everyday, looking forward to learning, being curious, and doing something about it. As you open your app every day, so will you start opening new doors for your personality to express itself every day. A small change triggering something big.

Travel – Go for day or half-day tours once a month either alone or in a small group with your friends/family. Visit your local museum, local historical places, a botanical park, zoo, your local park, sea-side, fun-fairs, a short trek, a picnic, local farmers market, craft fairs, whatever is available in your city. Try to be with nature or learn something new on your day-tour. Observe other people, children, animals, trees or the water, you will always see something new. (going shopping in a commercial mall is not a day tour!)

And finally, use your hands – Open out your hands, look at them, the palms, the fingers and the back of your hands. These are your tools, you do everything with your hands, hold, touch, love. So use them, type, sew, knit, write, grasp, paint, create with your hands. As you use your hands for more things, you will find more opportunities coming to you. Open up.

These are a few tiny actions which you can mindfully do regularly. These are the keywords of Mercury and Gemini, you are practicing with their energies. You can always think your way out, your creativity and intention is your power, use it to be more assertive in life. Express yourself and be free.

Law in the horoscope

Just like education, law and legal matters are of several types. If you ever need to decipher any question related to ‘law’, check these 3 houses out.

  1. The 7th house is the main house to do with legal and partnership related activities.
  2. The 9th house is the house which deals with the philosophy of law.
  3. The 3rd house is the house of the ability to communicate and personal confidence.

Law in the horoscope

The 7th house

This is the house of legal stuff. Bargains, contracts, partnerships made under the legal regime are seen from here. To present a good argument you will always need a good 7th house. This house allows you to present coherent arguments sourced from the legal texts in court. Here the lawyers do not interpret the law, they quote the different sections/case laws and presents balanced arguments for his client. This is a practical application of the law where one wronged party seeks redress and legal compensation from his partner under the contracts they both had willingly made under the prevailing legal regime.

This house will also cover and out of court settlements via an arbitrator, settlement officer, facilitator, etc. Here too the process is essentially same as in a court room but with a difference. Both parties have decided to accept a third person whose authority they both agree upon, as a mediator. And both want to reach a mutually amicable and acceptable solution. These settings are a bit informal as compared to the courtroom setting.

Now to do a complete analysis of this 7th in terms of legal issues is somewhat like this. You will have to consider all the houses and their results in the perspective of the 7th.

The effects of this house is to change the assets/identity of both the partners through communication of disagreement (8th is 2nd counted from 7th). The people who are involved in resolving the issues are peers, authorities and senior member of the society but they sort of step down. They are the philosophers but they come down to the practical levels to solve your arguments (9th is 3rd from 7th). This brings you stability in the professional relations or emotional stability and comfort in the eyes of the society (10th is 4th from 7th).  The matters of this house often require you to express yourself intelligently and in front of a large audience (11th is 5th from 7th). Also the outcome is losses of enemies, debts, disagreements and enforced/illegal service (12th is 6th from the 7th).

Then all this results in a more balanced and fair expression of your partnership, thus adding to your personal ego (1st is 7th from the 7th). Now often legal issues and court cases result in a a change in your personal resources, may reduce them or increase them (the 2nd is the 8th from the 7th). It is even possible that you may be recognised as a senior or a paternal helpful figure in your local neighbourhood/extended family as a result of your confidence in dealing in legal matters (3rd is 9th from 7th). Now this will spill over in your professional comfort and acumen also; and you will in some ways be a better father to your own biological children (4th is 10 from 7th). If your luck is with you, you might make a mark which will bring you more sources of income (5th is the 11th from the 7th). And finally the loss of balance and unfairness is represented by the placements of the 6th house (6th is the 12th of the 7th).

This sort of analysis may seem quite tedious, but it answers your question completely. If you have a strong 9th house as above, the judges will favour you, if the 2nd house is well placed you will gain money from the legal case etc.

Now the natural 7th sign of the zodiac is Libra and its lord is Venus, so these 2 factors will also influence the matters of the 7th wherever they may be placed in the horoscope. Then how the person feels about legal matters will be seen from the 7th house counted from the moon sign. Analysing these factors will present a complete picture of the legal activities of the 7th house.

The 9th House

Now the 9th house is always the philosophy and the theoretical background. It may not have any real practical use, but it is the foundation on which the practical use rests.

Example, The Parliament deliberates on how new laws are to be made; these are working in the 9th house now. And then these laws are interpreted in the higher courts as a function of the 9th. The nitty-gritties/practical aspects of the case are argued out in the lower courts. In most cases interpretation is not needed here as the laws, case laws and rules are are clear enough. But for a few cases where the lower courts are unable to satisfy the litigants the scene shifts to the higher courts which have been vested with the power of interpretation. These higher courts interpret the existing laws in newer ways to get to a new case law.

This is how the group of paternal figures, peers, patrons and senior scholarly individuals use the philosophy and intent of the law. Here new law is created for a wide section of humanity under the natural ruler of the 9th Jupiter and his sign Sagittarius, the natural 9th sign and its ruler.

The Third house

This house is always important as it describes the personal boldness and the ability to meaningfully communicate. This ability is necessary for every aspect of life and especially in settings where you have to argue. Fight with words! That is one way how the 3rd house is involved in ‘law’.

And second, this house also consists of the practical applications of law in every sense. The rules you have to follow on the road, in your office, even the rules your mom enforces at home is the ‘law’ as defined in this house. Here if you break a rule, no one will drag you to the formal courts. For example, your mom+dad will form an ‘internal committee’ to evaluate your behaviour and then to discipline. This might seem rather low profile and harmless at the time, but will have repercussions the next time you want your allowance increased!

Now the natural 3th sign is Gemini and its lord Mercury so these 2 subtly influence the 3rd wherever they may be placed. Then the emotional context and comfort levels are seen from the 3rd house counted from the moon sign. Analysing these factors will present a complete picture of the legal activities of the 3rd house.

This was the theory on analysing how your legal problems will be resolved and how will every aspect of your chart contribute it. I hope this helps!

Education in the horoscope

There are certain ways to analyse education and learning in a horoscope. And there is quite a lot of confusion about this too. You will get lots clients asking about their educational prospects.

There are several types of training, skill development, apprenticeship, teaching, learning and studying activities are all called ‘Education’. These are all very different activities, each with a different purpose so we need to distinguish between them. They cannot all be clumped under a generic “education”.

The earliest brush you have with ‘education’ is in the 4th house. Here your ‘Moon’, your mother and maternal figures, transfer to you all the cultural ethos of your society. The traditions and social mores that you will live your life by are the domain of the 4th house. Your mother is actually your first teacher, schooling you for meaningful social interactions within your parent culture.

Then you have your school-going phase. This lower education is also a function of the 4th house. You are being taught the basics of reading, writing, maths, geography and history. This is more a phase of getting literate than getting educated. The teachers are also more ‘maternal’ and supportive in nature. So lower education is also indicated by the 4th house.

Education in the horoscope

Then there is the practical aspect of ‘education’. Training and learning skills. These are the domain of Mercury of the 3rd house. Here you are taught to use the skills you are given.  This is superficial information, enough to get you active and working. Here we get teamwork, workshops, seminars, presentations, group studies and discussions. Short term trainings. And then some University courses also train you for taking up specific jobs in the professional arena. You get your diploma, licence to practice in the society.  This would also be a function of the 3rd house. Example, you are practically taught how to make money, but not the philosophy of money and its role in the society! Practical hands-on education which you can apply in your daily life and society.

Then we come to higher education. This is the 5th house. Here you are taught how to lead, to express yourself and your creativity. Performing arts, music, dance, theatre related stuff. To write and publish. Learning to lead in a political, military, spiritual etc scenario is the 5th house. Earlier Universities were places for scholarship and deep learning. But in the present times they are more often places which teach you how to express yourself to the maximum possible. To make money and to lead in the society. This is the 5th house.

Now for some clients in the research field, the 8th house is all about research oriented stuff where the students explore the unknown, often secluded in their laboratories, using ‘arcane’ knowledge and searching for new ways to use these newly discovered energies. So if you want to be a scientist this 8th house will be in the spotlight.

Now Wisdom! Wisdom requires contemplation. This ‘education’ is a long time affair, it can even be for a life-time. It is immersive. Often one-one. The student is required to reflect, contemplate and think through what is being taught to him. Add his own experience and thought process so that he can deeply understand. This is the domain of the 9th house. The student learns philosophy and the deep theories about life and living. This is Jupiter’s domain. The 9th is not about practical applications but about understanding, it is pure academics! The Guru teaching his disciples is also the 9th. Here the students inquire into the nature of the self, and the divine.

And a quick note on the ones who will be teaching. For being a good teacher of whichever type of ‘education’ as above that specific house will need to be strong. Example a teacher of philosophy will need a strong 9th house. A teacher teaching garage work and mechanics will need a good 3rd house. But for all teachers a strong 3rd house is essential, this allows the activities of explaining, communicating and interacting which are essential components of the act of teaching.

Also for the student, he needs to have a level of intelligence, memory and understanding. This would be a function of the ascendant lord, the ‘airy’ signs and their power to give results, then of course Mercury, Jupiter, Mars, Moon etc depending on which type of education he is looking for!

So if you get a client asking about his education, ask first what kind of ‘education’ is he talking about. Each is a different aspect of the chart!
