Malefic energies in your chart

In a horoscope analysis, the most important planetary force is the Ascendant Lord, followed by the Moon. If your these 2 forces are well placed and are capable of giving good results the basics of your life are secured. Now here is a checklist of the Arishta/malefic influences in your chart. You will need to see this list in the context of your horoscope. Every planet has the capacity to give malefic results depending on several factors.arishtaFirst to begin with, the planets,

  1. The natural malefics are Mars, Sun, Saturn, Rahu and Ketu. (Jupiter, Venus, well placed Moon and well placed Mercury are benefics)
  2. Moon if weak, debilitated, under the influence of malefics or placed very near the Sun will act as a malefic.
  3. Mercury if weak, debilitated or under influence of the malefic planets will act as a malefic.
  4. Benefics Jupiter, Venus, Moon and Mercury can become ineffective if they are retrograde. If retrograde and under the influence of malefics they can even give malefic results.
  5. The essential malefic/benefic nature of these planets will be modified depending on the houses that they own in the chart, so will vary as per the ascendant sign. So take note of this modification in their natures too!

The houses and their owners,

  1. The dushamshthanas, 6th, 8th and 12th are sources of malefic influences. Even a benefic placed here will give malefic results. Worse will be if you have the Moon or Ascendant owner placed here.
  2. The placement of the owners of the dushamsthanas should be analysed. These ‘house owners’ may be benefic/malefic by their essential nature, but for this chart they are karaks/agents of turmoil so you need to pay attention to which house they are placed in.

The agents of death, the Marak and Marakesh,

  1. The 2nd house and the 7th house are called the Marak sthan, these houses are linked to timing of physical death. Presence of malefics in these houses at birth needs to be checked. Especially should remain alert during transits of malefics through these houses.
  2. The house owners of these 2nd and 7th houses are called the Marakesh, they decide the timing of death. Especially be careful during Mahadasha and sub-periods of these planets and their transits. Even simple illness during this period can act as the ‘seed’ for physical death.

Additionally the chart draws strength from these positions,

  1. The houses 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th are called the foundations of the horoscope/Kendra. If benefics are placed here they provide strength and vitality which can tide over malefic influences.
  2. The 3rd house is the ‘house of house’ for the 8th house. It is the ‘death’ of ‘death’. So even if you have malefic planets placed here they add to your strength. This house represents your confidence and inner boldness so any planet performs well here.
  3. The 11th house is the Bhavat-bhavam for the 6th house, it is the ‘enemy’ of the ‘enemy’. Any planet, benefic/malefic, performs well here. It represents your gains and adds to your strength.

Now the timing. – Now that you know which planets are the malefic energies of your chart, you will need to pay special attention to their dasha periods and transits. If you get a chart with questions you will need to do this part of the analysis.

  1. First check what sort of a problem it is. Which houses are linked to it, there are a few limited categories of problems. You can easily check which house and which planet related issues these are.
    • For medical emergencies
    • For marriage problems
    • For business, profession and finance related problems
    • Land and property
    • Issues with children
    • Education related questions
  2. Now see which Mahadasha and sub-periods are on. If they are of some malefic planets take notes.
  3. Then the current transits and how these planets in transit are interacting with the birth planetary positions related to the question that is being asked.
    • e.g. for medical emergency, you see that the it is the 7th house Lord/Marakesh Mahadasha with Ketu antardasha which can cause illnesses and even physical death. If in this, you see Saturn transiting the Ascendant sign. And in this, if Mars transits the 8th and Moon comes in the 8th for its 2.25days transit. Accident will happen. If Jupiter is transiting the 12th it can lead to death even. But if Jupiter is in the kendra house it can save the life.

Analysing malefic influences is a distasteful but essential part of any horoscope analysis you do. After all no one comes to you for asking ‘why am I doing good’! You will always get clients with problems, so with time this analysis becomes automatic.

Marak, rulers of the 2nd and 7th

Marak/Marakesh is an important concept in Jyotish. Marak is the planet/s which decides the timing of exit from the physical body, death. The situation of death is defined by the 8th house and the conditions active at the moment of death are seen from the power of the Moksh trikon, but timing is from the Marak. The planetary lord of the 2nd house and the 7th house of the ascendant is the Marak planet for the chart.

Then there are natural marak planets i.e. Saturn, Mars and Rahu. These three can on their own cause physical death without much assistance from other planets but its quite rare. They need to be connected in some way to the 2nd or 7th houses or their lords. Physical death is an extremely significant phenomenon, it is not determined by a single placement but by a synergy of the entire chart’s energies as a whole. The Mahadasha or antardasha ruled by the Marak, or a particularly important transit of the Marak planets can serve as the final break point.optix2.jpgSo why the rulers of 2nd and 7th houses? These are auspicious houses, so why should they be used to judge the time of death. Death is not considered auspicious, or is it?

House 2 – You all know quite of astrological stuff by now, so what all does the 2nd house stand for? Think a bit and read on.

  • 2nd house is the storehouse. You, in your life gain experiences of several sorts. Also you accumulate several types of stuff. These are your assets, the treasures of your personality and your environment (defined by the 1st house). These are ‘collected’ in the 2nd house. You finish collecting all that you have decided on, your treasuries are full. Now what? You leave! The body cannot take in anything anymore, you have completed your targets. Saturation.
  • Now the natural ruler of the 2nd is Venus. He is also rules relationships at every level.  Relationship with the act of death naturally ruled by Mars of Scorpio 8th. The 2nd house here is one-half of the yoke, the other being the 8th house (it is counted seventh from 2nd). When you finish accumulating your assets in the 2nd house, the 8th house will trigger the fast terrifying transformations of your assets, take these stores and use them in a balanced manner, converting your physical identity to that of the astral. Emptying them and making them ready for the next rebirth.

House 7 – After reading this about the 2nd house, I am sure you can work out why 7th house ruler can also indicate the time to exit the physical body.

  • The 7th house rules bargains, partnerships, balance and equatable sharing. Throughout your life you are actively involved in several kinds of partnerships. Every relationship can be viewed through the lens of a ‘partnership’, where both partners gain fairly. So what happens when you reach your goals on partnerships and gains from them?
  • We take birth to re-balance karma, no other reason. Balance is the reason for this life in this body. We decide on how much of this karma-balance-target at the moment of birth. This moment of birth is the 1st house, and the 7th is the other part of the yoke.
  • Once you achieve the goals, it is time to set new targets, i.e. leave the old physical body and take on a new one.
  • The stuff you have in the 2nd house also represents the secret gains from the 7th house (it is the eighth when counted from the 7th). It represents how you have used the energy of the 7th to change the status of your karmic-balance.
  • The natural ruler here is also Venus, as he rules the 7th house of the zodiac, Libra.
  • Venus is the mokshkarak, when yoked to the vitality of Mars he can even grant you Moksh if the time is right. When all your karma is balanced by the assets you have gained in your this incarnation. This is one of the reasons Moksh is considered to be the primary function of Venus and not any other planet.

wallup.netIf in the horoscope the Moon sign is more powerful than the Ascendant then check out the 2nd and 7th house lords counted from this Moon sign, they can also act as Maraks.

Then there are those periods in life where life becomes unbearable. There are catastrophic changes and traumas which makes one want to end it all. But these are not periods where death will occur. These hard times are related to the following planets, their Mahadasha /antardasha or significant transits. The power of the planet to give positive or negative results should always be examined before arriving at a conclusion. And then as always look for patterns not single placements.

  • Lord of the 12th house from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Loss of emotional support and comfort, extreme loneliness and grief. Separation from love and loved ones. A deep desire to move into the astral dimensions permanently.  This causes a desire to leave the physical body frame. The spirit wants to dissolve and separate.
  • Lord of the 8th house from the Moon or Ascendant or Saturn – Again this planet cannot confer physical death but traumatic catastrophic changes which are quite death-like. Transformations of personality in every way, positive and negative. Sudden wealth, legacies, accidents, surgery, magic, tantric stuff, divorce etc, but never actual physical death.

The length of a life is not important the intensity is. Mars rules intensity and Saturn rules endurance. Mars is always willing to change, transform and he has the capacity to generate enough resources to facilitate his fast and furious movements. Saturn is slow, he moves slowly generating his resources and the processes which he rules over linger on. Mars, the ruler of life and death is also the natural partner of Venus, the ‘natural’ ruler of 2nd and 7th, sort of the ‘natural’ marakesh. And Venus is Saturn’s best friend too.

If the chart shows the influence of Mars over this process of physical death, it will be very fast. If Saturn has links to physical death then it will be slow and often via a lingering illness. If you have Mars and Saturn both involved with your 8th house then be prepared for the long haul, a long life has been granted to you. If benefics aspect they will give a graceful and dignified transition.

Sometimes you get a case where the person is enduring a prolonged illness. You look at the chart and see that though the Maraks periods are on, the life span allotted to the chart is not yet complete. Such a typical time frame gives ‘sickness’, this sickness may manifest as extreme sadness (astral body suffers) or actual sickness (physical body suffers). The prana-link between the jivatma/soul and the body/robot is thinned down. The soul has not yet decided to leave. In such a case, prayers and healing (on spiritual, physical, emotional and mental levels) can convince the soul to stay on and continue.

Back to Venus, the morning star! Venus always fascinates me. He is beautiful, balanced, he knows the value of stuff, he grants the deepest knowledge, he decides the time when your body has exhausted itself. He tells you it is time to get a new life! He tests you, he does not grant his wisdom so easily. He defines relationships, the most important one being your relationship with your own self. He is perfection!

Quality of Life!

As an astrologer, I do get this question from my clients of ‘how long will I live”. It is indeed a very important question, most frequently in marriage chart matching. Most of us are interested in living as long as possible, perhaps living for ever, being immortal! But ‘life’ as well as ‘time’ is a matter of perception and is always relative. If you can change your perceptions you can change your Life!hourgh.jpgIn India, there are a few Brahmin families, who are the actual pure-bloods. They are required by karma to do perform private pujas in families or in our ancient temples. These few families are bound by very strict rules, eg on whom they can marry (to keep the genes pure), they are required to learn by-heart thousands of mantras and ritual procedures, with the correct way of pronouncing them. The boys are required to do Sandhya Gayatri puja 3 times a day. The women are required to do a specific set of daily pujas. They all have to follow very strict rules on food, dress, etc. They get married very early, have children early, work very hard, travelling, doing pujas for clients etc and die equally early, very rarely beyond their 50s. Now anyone may think that after doing so much pujas, mantras etc. why a relatively short life? The reason is this, birth in such families is to quickly finish a large chunk of karma in a targeted fashion. These men and women have chosen the fast track.

Quality of life matters always, never the length.

One of my colleagues recently performed a puja using the mantras from the Devi Mahatmya to ensure the easy passing of an aged woman who was unable to leave her body. She was so ill that she could neither live and because of a karmic block, neither could she die! This was a rather extreme case because the family had to request Devi Mahamaya herself for help. This is a kindness in a very strange way. Modern medicine has also accepted that there are cases where recovery is not possible, especially in the very aged, thus they can just prescribe only palliatives to ease the pain.

When I get such horoscopes where recovery is not possible, e.g. a 80+yrs grandfather has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the doctors cannot cure, and the state of the person/body is unbearable, I prescribe only one mantra, the Mahamrutunjai, “ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्  मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥ ॐ”, “Om Tryambakam Yajaamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam Urvaarukamiva Bandhanaat Mrtyor-Mukshiiya Maam Amrutaat Om”. This is to be recited in sets of 108 times, three times a day by any close male family member, sons/grandsons. The intention should be that the ‘Lord of Time’ help the soul leave the terminally sick body. If done with the proper intention, the soul will leave within 3 days. This mantra has innumerable uses. I have used it several times to help someone recover faster from illnesses, making protection amulets etc. The power of the mantra is the same, the direction/intention matters!hour-s-1994980_1280Now a bit of astrology. Calculation of life-span from the charts is done using several combinations which are all quite well known. These are related to

  • The ascendant sign and lord of ascendant, this is the manifested personality and its vitality. The planets conjoint and aspecting.
  • The 8th house is the house of forceful transformations of identity, death and the lord of the 8th. Planets aspecting and conjoint.
  • Timing of death will come from the lord of the 2nd and 7thhouses etc.

But these in themselves will always give an incomplete picture of ‘life’. To make this more understandable, you will have to analyse the quality of life too. E.g. Saturn in 8th house in certain cases gives extraordinarily long life, ‘the chart resists/constricts’ the act of death. (It may get difficult to leave the body!) But what are you going to do with this long life? Enjoying a long life needs good health, presence of loved ones, a community and friends, wealth, a spiritual practice and much much more. Alone and old does not give good vibes! We cannot live in isolation, we need every aspect of life in its proper balance to enjoy our life. So do a complete analysis of your horoscope

  1. The power of each planet and each house.
  2. The benefics, natural and also functional benefics and their aspects
  3. The malefics, natural and functional, and their aspects. Also check if their aspects are being countered/neutralized.
  4. Pay special attention to the 6th, 8th and 12th houses from the ascendant sign and the moon sign both. These are the sources of disease, debt, enemies, accidents, surgeries, death, loss of the manifested, turmoil, the three dushamsthana.
  5. And finally pay close attention to the foundations of your life, 1st, 5th and 9th houses from the ascendant sign and the birth moon sign. The Dharma, the deep philosophies on which your life is based on. These will determine how balanced a life you will lead and how will it affect you on the physical and emotional levels.

close up photography of wristwatchYou have analysed your horoscope, so let us go about changing the quality of your life. You can improve the quality of your life with your Intention and Will focussing your energies. To generate more energy we use Mantras. (Mantras are only in Sanskrit, not any another language.)

  1. If you come across any problems in your chart, use the powers of the beej mantras of the weak planets/house owner/rashi owner planets to balance and regulate their energies. This is a very simple. Will take about 5 mins of your time.
  2. You can Intentionally re-direct energies. Do charity and help someone who really deserves your help. Maybe if you want children and unable to conceive, you can help out at a local orphanage, perhaps buy sweets for the children there. If you are having problems due to malefic influence of Saturn, help out in some way in an old-age home? Thoughts and intentions matter and can change the flow of your future.
  3. Practice being grateful and happy, this will reinforce your Will. There must be someone in your life who must have helped you, been kind to you, something must have touched your heart, brought tears of joy in your eyes? Your mom, dad, teacher, grandparent, brother, sister, a random stranger? Or Nature, a beautiful flower, a sunrise? Or even a beautiful dress, or the color of someone’s eyes, anything! Remember how you felt, how your heart burst with feeling and try to bring this same feeling in your heart again and again. Be grateful to your own Self too for being able to experience this joy.

hourg.jpgAnd finally you will need to introduce a spiritual base to your life. This is a very minor routine that you can adopt every morning. We Indians do it and also teach our children, but I think most of us have forgotten, thus this reminder.

  1. When you open your eyes first thing in the morning, cup your palms so that both the heart lines match up. Look into your cupped palms and recite this mantra “Om Karagre vasate Laxmi Karamadhye Saraswati, Karamoole tu Govinda Prabhate Karadarshanam Om”. Then run your cupped palms over your face. This energises the hands, gives you confidence. Your hands are your primary tools for working, cooking, writing, holding and everything.
  2. When you get out of bed, put your right foot on the ground first, then your left. Express your gratitude, love and respect to the Mother Earth, “Om Samudravasane Devi, Parvatastanamandale, Vishnupatni Namastubhyam, Paadsparsha Kshamasva mey. Om”. This will ensure that you receive, ‘support’ in all its various forms throughout your day.
  3. And then remember your parents/your Guru/favourite deity/Universe with gratitude. “Om Guruh Brahma Guruh Vishnu Guruh devo Maheshwara, Guru Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah. Om”.

(If you cannot say the mantras for any reason, you can skip them, but do try to feel the energy of your palms/the Mother Earth and your source of Faith.)

Take a photo of the lines of your hands before you start doing this and recheck after 21 days. The crosses and negative lines on the palms will visibly reduce, see you are visibly changing your future here!

As you slowly and steadily start re-writing the script of every single day with these 3 small steps, you start changing your entire life. The butterfly effect!

Maturity of the Houses of the Horoscope

I have written about the maturity of planets in this post here, do read it. Planets and Houses of the horoscope mature at certain specific years/periods of your life. This has a rather deep impact on the chart and needs to be analysed before coming to a conclusion about it. If a house is particularly strong or weak, the effect of its maturity and subsequent expressions will be perceptible. Pay special attention to the houses which contain the Moon, the Ascendant Lord and any special yogkarak planets etc during reading. The houses can take a few to several years to mature as per the list, after which they give the most balanced expression of themselves and interact better with their resident planets and incoming aspects. Most of their effects are quite subtle, but if you analyse yourself and your life pattern, you can easily understand them.bake baked blur cakeThis is the list for the house maturity and your age in years.

  • 9th House From birth to 24 yrs
  • 10th House 25 to 26 yrs
  • 11th House 27 to 28 yrs
  • 12th House 29 to 30 yrs
  • 1st House 31 to 33 yrs
  • 2nd House 34 to 36 yrs
  • 3rd House 37 to 39 yrs
  • 4th House 40 to 45 yrs
  • 5th House 46 to 51 yrs
  • 6th House 52 to 57 yrs
  • 7th House 58 to 65 yrs
  • 8th House 66 yrs onwards till death

Now for some details on how this works. These are the general trends which will be modified by several factors like, planets residing, planets aspecting, dasha-astrological time, transits etc. But regardless of the actual physical events  which will happen the subtle theme will remain.

From birth to 24 yrs of age you are building the foundations of your life ‘Dharma’. All sorts of experiences are converted to your personal philosophy. How you will use your formative years to build your life on is decided here. Your paternal figures, peers and patrons play a very important role in deciding the philosophical anchors of your life. Thus the 9thhouse matures. The 9this also the house of auspiciousness. Your life, its fortune or otherwise develops from here. At the age of 24yrs your outlook to life is more or less fixed. This house, Dharmasthan, is also the house of your deepest foundations, you might also get married to your Dharmapati/Dharmapatni towards the end of or after this time.

Generally the 24th to 26thyrs of age are the formative years of your career. You will be engaged in focussing on your business establishments, social mobility, role in society and professional success. (You also might become a father yourself, thus feel the responsibility more palpably). Thus the 10thhouse has matured and now onwards will give its complete results.   anniversary beautiful birthday birthday cakeLogically, from the 26th to 28th yrs, you might get lucky, expand your sources of income. You might be more visible in the society and interacting with locals and foreigners, new persons and new ventures. The foundations of your long-term goals and ambitions now onwards will become clearer. (A new job perhaps) Thus the 11thhouse will start giving its subtle results.

The 28th to 30 yrs of age, will be a rather unsettled time, with long distance journeys, separation from the family/friends. There may be physical losses or spiritual revelations. You might take on burdens and feel tired all the time. Physical body and the environment in which you are used to live in will be subtly ‘reduced’ in some way. (You may shift into a smaller house, which will have an out-of-proportion deep impact on you) Thus the 12thhouse is now active and will start giving its results.

After this experience of loss, you will bounce back with vigour and from the 30th to 33 years you will redouble your efforts and bring back stability into your life and social structure. It will be like a rebirth, you will take on a new identity in some way. (These are subtle effects remember, the actual event may also be a birth of a child, making you a father/mother) You will be more confident about yourself and this confidence is here to stay, this was the 1sthouse beginning to give its results.

Next from the 33rd to 36thyrs of life will be a consolidation phase where your 2ndhouse will start giving its results. You will be more aware of your family resources and you will now onwards focus on earning money, saving, investing and creating security for your later years. You might also start internally valuing your time with your family and close friends.pexels-photo-355290.jpegThe events leading to the 36th to 39yrs, will start you on a new path to creativity. (you might start writing a blog!). You will understand the how to use your initiative and independence and communicate more. New contacts from your neighbourhood and social circle will come up and you will enjoy the new exposure. Thus the 3rdhouse will come to its own.

In the period from 39th to 45 yrs, certain events will occur which will make you value and appreciate security and stability. (You will buy a new car or a permanent house) You might even be drawn to the spiritual stability of meditation. Thus the 4thhouse will attain its mature levels of expression.

Next from the 45th to 51 yrs, you might gain a new perspective on yourself. You might discover new activities to fulfil your creative potential. You will also recognise the presence of divinity and there may be events which will turn you into a ‘respected elder’. You may also be required to focus more on your children and perhaps guide them in their lives as they also grow older.

Then comes the beginning of the exit mode from the 51st to 57 yrs and onwards you will be made aware of the failings of your physical body. Your deep seated diseases will now start emerging. Then depending on how your 6thhouse is placed, your enemies and debtors will come collecting. You will be made aware of the frailty of life and living. This is a subtle process and now onwards the 6this mature and active.pexels-photo-236799.jpegNow comes the period of 57th to 65thyrs. You finally realise on a deep inner level that your relationship to yourself matters. You spend more time with yourself either in contemplation or mediation. You might read more books on spiritual development and practice. The 7thhouse’s subtle message is that you have to forge a relationship with yourself first and find your real Self! Thus now onwards, the 11thhouse starts functioning as it really is supposed to bringing you more closer to your own self.

And then the last, 65th birthday onwards till the death of the physical body. You will understand and face the questions on death and eventual rebirth. You will be made subtly ready to experience these intensely secret mysteries as your final 8thhouse also matures and starts giving its results.

Thus the life of an average human being subtly unfolds. If you can observe yourself this is very beautiful. For every stage of life you are subtly made ready by the interactions of the planetary and sign forces. Life is quite balanced if you can dispassionately observe. Analyse yourself and witness your own Beauty!

Prediction of Suicidal tendencies

I had written separate posts on depression, addictions and psychiatric problems. And strangely there is a lot of interest on these serious topics related to mental health! Seems that Mercury has this current age of ours firmly in his grip. We live in a world ruled by communications. And most of our problems seem to be rooted in mis-communications and mis-interpretations. Sometimes these mental games become so severe that a person takes the extreme step of consciously ending the physical existence, commits suicide.

woman walking on bridgeFor determining suicidal tendencies in a chart, we need to examine mental and emotional factors and also those factors which actually power the actual action of suicide/death.
  • Check out the planets placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses from the ascendant, 6th is the house of disease, enemies, debts and slavery. 8th is the house of traumatic forceful transformations of surgeries, accidents, magic, secrets and death. 12th is the house of the sub-conscious, the astral and the loss of the boundaries of physical realities. These 3 houses from the ascendant are the houses of turmoil and can wreck havoc in a persons life, make it intolerable to continue living.
  • Then the 3rd house from the birth Mercury shows where the thoughts loop and repeat again and again, till it becomes maddening and intolerable. Eg. A Moon placed here will color all thoughts in the emotional context.
  • Weak planets are those placed in the signs of their enemies, or aspected/conjoint their enemies or with malefic planets. Also debilitated planets, combust or retrograde planets have modified energies which give different and unexpected results.
  • Ascendant sign or Ascendant lord afflicted with malefics or weak or badly placed.
  • And because death is death, the mode and circumstances of death is to be seen from the 8th house and the timing of death from the lords of the 2nd and 7th houses from the ascendant.
  • Transits will be important too as the timing of the self inflicted death event will be connected to the positions of the transiting planets.

Since suicide is a termination of the entire physical manifestation lets examine the role of all the planets in this extreme step of complete identity loss.person wearing gray hoodie jacket watching lakeSun – The Sun is the Soul, the ego, self-image, divine intelligence and the spark of the divine animating us. A strongly placed Sun in the chart supports your will to live, your self-worth and self-confidence and you will never have to face psychiatric problems. Even if your birth Moon or Mercury is badly placed, a strong Sun will pull you through. A weak Sun will reduce your resilience to bounce back after mishaps, you are less willing to fight for yourselves and allow the situations to carry you without any resistance. In such a case a badly placed Mercury or Moon will aggravate the problems till you feel there is only one option to get out. The sense of false empowerment that results in tragedy.

Moon – is the mind. we draw our emotional comfort and stability from the moon. A comfortable moon located in good houses and in aspects of benefics ensures a healthy emotional context. If the moon is badly placed it can cause emotional trauma. The nature of the event which can force the extreme step is likely to denial of emotional comfort, support and stability or betrayal from the persons who were expected to provide emotional support. If the Moon and Mercury are severely afflicted together with a damaged Sun and there is zero support from any of the other planets, it can push for the final step generally by drowning.

Mercury – is your analytical process. You have an experience, you link it with your past database of experiences and only then can you conclude from it, this is Mercury in action. Thinking, perceptions and logic. Mercury in a bad place will destroy the analytical thought patterns. The person will take only the negative perceptions from his life experiences and ignore the positives. Over time this mindset will lead him to conclude that life is a pain and not worth living anymore. Thus the final step will be thought of as a viable option.

Mars – is the natural ruler of the 8th sign of the zodiac and is the force who rules over our life and death. 8th house is the house of forceful transformations of identity, death and rebirth. He is also the expression of the Will. If the Will sends instructions for self destruction the energies of Mars will follow. Weak Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury together is very toxic for the personality. Mars is very important as he will power the actual act of suicide. Such a person might even take up a stupid challenge to do some dangerous activity which will result in his instantaneous death, a type of suicide! If the person is depressed due to other planet aspects, he might try to die by burning the body, slitting wrists, bullets or electric shocks.pexels-photo-307006.jpegVenus – If the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury link up with an equally weak Venus, the person can contemplate committing suicide as a result of broken relationships, betrayal in partnerships and mental trauma caused by lovers or spouses. He can argue with his wife on some silly reason, leave the house and commit suicide. However he would prefer a painless death by sleeping pills or drugs.

Jupiter – Jupiter/Guru is the philosophical base of your life. He controls the Dharma, the theories on which you live. As the natural lord of the 12th house, he controls the astral/sub-conscious and the states after the physical body-death. He can attract a person to the after-death state. A suicide powered by a damaged Jupiter, linked with weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, will show a typical wish to find the better place in the after-death. He is not bothered about his living state as such, the after-death attracts him and he wants to get there asap. Example is ending the body in a pseudo-religious cult practice.

Saturn is connected to longevity, maturity and ageing. If he is associated with the 8th house in any way he can promote long life. But if he is weak, he tends to give an early death or constant illnesses, the body does not endure or does so with great difficulty. A strong Saturn is necessary for a strong body. A weak Saturn linked to an afflicted Mercury and Moon can confer early death by suicide, often by getting under a train or in the road-way. The nature of the precipitating event is likely to be connected to social pressures and shame at being caught in a socially embarrassing position.

Rahu – Rahu is the rule breaker the North Node and his main character is that he respects no boundaries. He is massively ambitious and full desires which can never be satisfied. His constant motif is a over-reach followed by a spectacular fall. This pattern keeps on repeating throughout and if the mind, will and intellect is weak the person can contemplate suicide. This also will be a public spectacle as per Rahu’s mind-set, like jumping off high rise buildings or suicide bombers, or sometimes by injecting poisons in the blood.back view hair observing oceanKetu – the South Node is the agent of dissociation himself, he dissolves boundaries. This mindset will prefer to dissociate from the living state because he has no interest. Apathetic to Life itself. We hear some one who was doing well and ok generally suddenly secretly committing suicide for absolutely no reason. He may not even leave a suicide note! Ketu can confer suicide by consuming poison, in secret or in pseudo-religious cults. He may want to take his life at pilgrimage sites believing that it will grant Moksh.

Thus for a death by suicide prediction, the basic combination is a weak Sun, in combination with an afflicted Mercury, weak Moon and at least one weak other planet. The other planets also contribute their bit in pushing the person over the brink. If the chart has only the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, the person can get depressive thoughts and think of suicide but wont be able to act on them. This action of actual suicide is determined by the 4th weak planet which gets linked to these 3.

If you come across such a chart in your friends/family circle, remember that this person can be traumatized and pushed, till ending of the physical existence will seem to be a viable option. He needs counselling and be taught to take remedial action when his thoughts begin to loop on himself. Best option which I have seen is, to get such a person hooked on to a Mantra. If he can be made to listen to the Vishnu Sahastranama stotra once a day as a routine, it is a good 22min long Stotra very energy-rich, enough to wash the mind off any negative tendencies. Or any other Sanskrit stotra which is at least 10 mins long. He can listen to it on the way to work or while driving, it will help immensely in controlling his mind and emotions.pexels-photo-185939.jpegUltimately from an energy perspective and what I have seen from my access to the sub-conscious, if a person commits suicide once, he has to repeat this act in the next 7 lives. The next birth occurs as per the mental/emotional/spiritual state of the person at the moment of death. But in a suicide it is very different. The astral body registers the suicide’s energy as an aberration, I have written a bit on what happens at the moment of death in my post on the Moksh trikon here. Also the impressions are stored in the astral body which can be seen from the D-9 navamsha chart, this D-9 chart changes over lives, very slowly. So to completely remove the impression of the suicide event from the astral body, it takes 7 subsequent lives. Taking one’s own life intentionally is against the deepest Conscience/ Antaratma! It is disrespecting the Love that we receive from the Universe/ Parabrahma. It is an unimaginable torture and from a spiritual perspective pushes you back several steps, recovery from this act consumes the energies of the next 7 lives, it is not worth it!

Deaths of loved ones, astrologically

At this present point of time, Jupiter, the agent of expansion is transiting through Scorpio, the natural house of traumatic transformations including death. I am seeing deaths in the families of several of my friends and in my social circle. So thought of writing on how the death of a loved one affects us and our horoscope. You would be surprised to know, it affects us in a positive manner generally, if we could but appreciate it, and take advantage of it. It is a touchy topic but someone has to write about it!

A 30yr old man lost his 26 yr old wife. It was scripted in their horoscopes. In the chart the 7th house represents all sorts of legal partnerships. The wife is the most intimate legal partnership thus her horoscope is linked most strongly to the 7th house. Thus his 7th was, in a way, operating through the lens of her horoscope, and most of the energy of his 7th was being channelized into his relationship with her. It was a highly karmic interaction to be sure, and in these few years of marriage he completed his entire life-time karma of ‘blockages in partnerships’. Now with the house’s energies being free again, his other legal partners are so ready to rush in. He is grieving at the moment, but within the next 6 months his business is going to boom like crazy, he will expand with more business partners, he will also buy a property and his second wife (unknown as of now) will be in partnership with him within the next 1.5yrs.

A 10 month old baby lost his mother. Tragic to be sure, but the baby had completed all his duties to his mother by acting as an energy recharge-station during her illness. This was on the level of the astral and aura exchange, I don’t think anyone but my brother and I noticed it. Ultimately the baby’s aura had gone grey and he was exhausted. Then when he had no more to give, his mother also stopped asking, she went critical and left her body within 2 days. A karma balanced beautifully. And in his horoscope the early death of mother was indicated, and now with this vacuum, his entire family, grandmother, grandfather, uncle and his father are all nurturing him with their maternal love. This is also as per his 4th house combinations. And the child is demanding and accepting this love from all and growing very rapidly. I can see it in his aura, he is barely a toddler but actually is equivalent to a 4year old boy. His birth mother was a barrier to all these other maternal energies which he had to receive from his other family members so her going was scripted. They exchanged as much as they had decided, as per her and his chart and she left. And this child is also due to receive maternal love from another woman, (unknown as of now), who will marry his father within the next 1.5yrs.

A 72 yr old man lost his 71yr old wife. A partnership of 40 odd yrs completed. But as soon as the energies of his 7th became free of the influence of her chart, he found his new partner waiting and welcoming him. His spiritual practice blossomed, with him doing dhyan/mindful contemplation for over 4-5 hours daily. His new partnership is with his deity/and ultimately with his own inner self.

I have seen when children leave their homes, to study in college and go to live in hostels, their parents back home the find a ‘replacement’ child rather quickly. The neighbour’s child or some child arrives to receive his share of affection from these parents. The energies of the houses do not like vacuum. There is always an object for the energies of every house at every point of time. These parents feel their love for their son reflected in their interactions with these other children.

If you have experienced your life, not just gone through it mindlessly, you must have realised that we meet people and then lose them quite regularly. School-friends, college-friends, then work-mates, apartment-friends all come and go with regularity. Their karma with you was quite limited and the emotional context not very deep. You might keep in touch superficially with some but generally you accept that when someone goes, someone new turns up to take his place.

There are 12 houses of the horoscope, each signify a type of energy/relationship. They are always present, unbalanced or balanced, directed or mis-directed. There is never a vacuum.

So in life it is inevitable that you will lose your loved ones with time. The loss will be temporary or permanent, and you will deeply feel the loss on an emotional level, intense grief to ‘just missing you’, the entire range of emotions will affect you. Do indulge in these emotions, these are valuable experience. But never forget that when someone leaves, it is because the karma has concluded for that time at least. You and him scripted this event together before you were born. You choose your moment of birth, your horoscope and thus your life-story. And these are the best possible choices you have made to successfully balance your debts.

So grieve, set a time limit and think of your departed loved one with gratitude. Think of all the experiences and times you spent together, learn from them. And with this understanding bid them good bye. When someone departs it is like they are back in the staging room. And you will find that some new energy is to enter your life. Welcome it and work with it.

I have met 2 friends who have a long association through their lifetimes, teacher/student, brother/sister, brothers together, husband/wife, mother/son, father/daughter and even tantrik/willing sacrifice. And they are still together, they argue, they make-up and again bicker, cannot live without each other. Hearing them remember their past lives together has been very enlightening for me, a complete change in perception.

No one goes anywhere.

Moksh Trikon of the horoscope

The 12 houses of the horoscope are divided into the Dharma Trikon, houses 1, 5 and 9. The Arth Trikon 2, 6 and 10. The Kama Trikon 3, 7 and 11 and the Moksh Trikon 4, 8 and 12.

In Sanskrit the word Moksh is everything that a spiritual seeker aspires for. It is the Ultimate Knowledge which frees from the reincarnation cycle of birth-death-rebirth. It is the liberation of the eclipsed Sun and represents the complete balancing of karmic debts. Moksh means that the soul has experienced everything that is possible to be experienced including its own True Reality. It is the final understanding of the complete Universe.

pexels-photo-1434608.jpegIn the horoscope the houses 4th, 8th and 12th are called the Moksh trikon, the triangle of release. The basic keywords of each of the houses/signs and planets are listed out in this post. The horoscope is the charted out path of a soul for one life-time, thus the release in this limited sense of one life-time, means the death of the physical-body and the movement of the soul out of it. These three houses are used to predict the situation when the soul separates from the physical body. (The timing of death is calculated using the Lords of the 2nd and 7th houses counted from the ascendant). The main house of body-death is the 8th. So let’s discuss the 8th first.

The 8th House

The 8th sign of the Zodiac is Scorpio and the owner Mars. The 8th house represents the moment of death of the body and the the physical situation of the body-death, self-destruction. This includes the reason of, the place of, method of and the environment in which the body-death occurs. This transformation is naturally ruled by Mars thus is very fast, terrible yet subtle and so complete that no trace of the previous soul identity remains. It is extremely powerful very secret and extremely personal. Death, and its opposite birth, is so common but is unseen and unknown, only can be experienced by the one soul who is going through it. The 8th is also the assets and wealth of the spirit that comes with death.

The 8th is the house of openings and the routes through which the soul travels to the astral planes. In my post on Kundalini I have described the naadi routes through with the prana and the kundalini travels, these secret routes are also in the domain of the 8th. The naadis are of different energy capacities. And the soul chooses that route which resonates with its energy. If it moves out through a higher energy route it will be reborn in a situation which will afford it better options for spiritual growth. For a normal mortal, the soul can exit through any one of the energy channels/naadis. This choice of routes is offered to the soul at the moment of its departure. For the enlightened soul who deserves Moksha, it leaves only through the brahamarandhra. This route to the brahmarandhra is opened and available only after intense Dhyan when the kundalini gets active.

It is extremely important to remain aware at the moment of exit so that you can make full use of the energy of release, this energy is generated by you yourself. The next birth occurs as per the mental/emotional/spiritual state of the person at the moment of death. Denying or resisting it is equivalent to resisting yourself. Your soul is in the center of the energy spiral and your new life is being formed around you. Thus participating in this energy game without fear and with full confidence and awareness is essential.options-1.jpgThe 12th house

This is the house of loss of the manifested. This house rules over the loss/reduction of everything that is visible and the increase of all that is invisible. It will reduce the vitality of the physical body, the conscious self, the waking state, the tangibles. It will enhance and expand the increase of the astral, the sub-conscious, the sleep and the dream states, and the unknown intangible.

This 12th is also the 5th as counted from the 8th house. The 5th house from anywhere is the expression of the intelligence and creativity of the matters of that house. Thus the 12th house represents the intelligence and creativity of the psyche at the point of death. And the 12th is the house of loss. Thus the 12th represents the transition of the physical manifestation to the astral. The identity of the Martyalok, based on the physical appearance, social status, ego, self is all lost. And the astral/spirit/pretatma identity of the Pitrulok is created.

We do this transition from physical to astral every night when we sleep, but here we return to the body when we wake up. But during body-death the chakra and naadi system /electrical energy-vortices and channels of the body are permanently blasted open. The energy of the blast, powers the permanent transition to the astral.

We are conditioned to think of death as a dark shock, a trauma where an unwilling soul is forced out of the body. In fact, nothing could be further from the truth. When the body dies the soul moves out of the body very systematically, it is a natural process. The soul has completed the set of tasks it had laid out for itself as represented in the birth horoscope. If the 12th house, the sign/planets posted and aspecting are strong, the soul successfully and intelligently transitions and re-orients to the new realities of the astral. It utilises the energies operating at the moment of death completely, to choose the time to be spent in Pitrulok/astral world and the seeds of the identity and conditions of rebirth.

When a soul is ready to leave the body, his sub-consciousness plays before his conscious mind, a series of images from his stored karma. The soul intelligently chooses which image he wants to resolve in his next life. Thus the imprint of the new next life is registered. This is the creative aspect of the 12th house in relation to death. The soul chooses from the several possibilities of the astral energies. A stable emotional and mental environment at this critical moment allows a better choice. Thus spiritual aspirants, Yogis and Sadhus often leave their bodies when in meditation. During meditation the mind is stable thus the new rebirth is the best possible option. If the meditation is absolute, the soul attains Moksha.

meditation.jpgThe 4th house

And now the third side of the Moksh trikon. The 4th house, the foundation. Let’s now count from the 8th house of death, the 4th is the 9th house from the 8th house of death. The 9th house counted from any is the house of the paternal figures, ancestors, philosophies, rites, rituals, expression of ideologies and ceremonies associated with religion. So the 4th house represents the guidance, ideology and rites associated with the act of body-death.

The 4th house is one of the 4 foundation houses of the horoscope (the other 3 being the 1st, 7th and 10th house). This house is responsible for the wisdom that is available to the departing soul at this critical moment of death. Benefic planets, aspects and signs placed here allow the soul to receive protection, guidance and wisdom from the ancestors and guides who reside in the astral planes. This care-taking or sheltering support from the guides is very crucial as it will help you exercise your choice of regeneration better. This 4th house also determines the emotional stability and comfort level at the moment of body-death. If the soul is relaxed it will be better able to adjust to its new existence and also bid adieu to its previous physical manifestation.

The funeral rites, cremations and the mantras are very important as they create energies which propel the departing soul faster. Rituals have been designed by the ancient seers in such a way that every physical object used in the ritual resonates with its spiritual counterpart. There is no superstition. eg, the light of the lamp resonates with the light of ultimate enlightenment, the incense resonates with the prana energy etc.

The 4th is the house of bindings, thus your new identity of rebirth is bound to your soul here. The material, spiritual, social, emotional etc context of the new rebirth which you chose in the 12th house, at the moment of the 8th house is fixed in the 4th house.death-1.jpgThe moment of release of the soul from its manifested physical body is the second most significant moment of the current life, the first being the moment of birth. So during this process, the conscious will of the soul has to dominate over the vagaries of the mind. Thus to really determine the success of this transition the 4th, 8th and 12th houses counted from the birth moon also have to be analysed. Counting from the moon will give the emotional context if each house. How you feel about the matters of that house.

This was the Moksh Trikon, analysed very differently. I do not believe that astrology is fatalistic. Yes, events happen but we always have the power to utilize the energy released from every life event to grow spiritually. There is no point of knowing the exact moment of death, which predictive astrology will calculate, if you are scared of it. Rather analyse your horoscope and be prepared to consciously use what will be offered to you. You always have a choice, this is in fact ‘Free Will’.
