Rahu Ketu analysis, if placed in the 5 /11 axis

Rahu and Ketu are completely astral graha, They do not have any existence in the physical dimension. They have no material results on their own. They influence the material only through the other planets they are linked to. Their actual results are almost completely astral in nature, they are the ‘desire to experience’ and ‘apathy to experience’ and represent the flow of experience throughout your several lives. Any placement of Rahu and Ketu will be influenced by the nature of the sign he is in, the owner of this sign and his power to give results and the other planets who conjoin/aspect Rahu/Ketu. The lunar mansion/ Nakshatra occupied by them also gives valuable insights into their effects.

There are two ways of analysing Ketu. Of these, how he will manifest his energy in your life will depend on the other planets, signs and houses.

  • One is disconnection from the individual self, detachment from the sense of self. He just experiences without any judgement. eg no children
  • And the second is no limits. This Ketu energy can increase scope as it is unimpeded by barriers. eg lots of children and child-figures like students.

The 5th and 11th axis deals with your personal intelligence and interaction with the outside world. This is perhaps the most important axis when it comes to energy, an incredible amount of energy is generated and used in this axis. So if you want to be good you can be really be the best and if you takes a bad turn you can be the worst of the lot. The karmic axis of Rahu-Ketu in this 5th/ 11th axis can create the most excellent human beings at one end of the spectrum or the worst ones, nothing in between.

Ketu in the 5th house

A strong Ketu here can confer a lot. Formal education may be in breaks or strangely disjointed with you taking random courses without a clear direction. Education is generally affected. If the 5th lord and the ascendant is well placed the education would be extensive but the use and awareness of what has been learnt formally would be limited.

This placement of Ketu drives the mind and its mental capacity inwards and you would be generally involved in esoteric stuff. Astrologers, spiritualists, occultists, tantriks are quite to be expected with this Ketu. Your intellect is enormous, Ketu is diffuse and separative, a paradoxial state. So the intellect can spread over and yet be incisive. But what exactly should you do with this intellect will be resolved only after midlife. Till then you might be considered to be a bit eccentric. You have very original and quite shocking ideas. These ideas will not materialise into reality unless Ketu is influenced by other planets.

The self-ego also is strangely fluid, you will be ego-less But at the same time know who you are exactly internally. May not express it though. Ketu in the 5th means that you have experienced these keywords of the 5th completely in your past lives and you have the deepest learnings associated with this house with you. But you will not be aware of it, if you can consciously focus it will be made available. But ‘consciously focussing’ and ‘headless Ketu’ together can get a bit difficult.

With love affairs two extreme things may happen depending on the other placements. No affairs, no relationships with humans and the search for a non-physical sort of a relationship with a deity or the higher self. Or no affairs but a formal marriage with limited physical contact. Or the other extreme, mindlessly into several relationships /marriages/affairs which are never satisfying. These relationships would be karmic in nature and you are quite passive about these.

Ketu in 5th makes you the shadow of your more outgoing husband/wife. The spouse if often from a different social/ cultural background. You don’t know how to have fun, most avenues of entertainment lose their attraction very fast. Your spouse can be a politician or someone very well-known in public, very passionate and visible. He is quite conscious about social position, recognition, gains, wealth etc. You on the other hand are not bothered about all this material stuff. You understand its importance, you move about in such environments but you are not moved by all these things. You might have to face losses because of your disinterest. You are your spouse’s shadow here, always present but never really seen. And you don’t mind it!

Children will be few, pregnancy and childbirth (if female) will be especially difficult. The children will be highly intuitive themselves. The eldest child especially may show occult talents or may have special needs. However this is rarely a ‘disability’ as far as his behaviour in society is concerned. But you might sometimes feel discomfort caused by his behaviour. You rarely punish your children/students, you observe and think very differently, your parenting style is a bit eccentric but can be genius. However this can as easily turn to negligence.

If you choose to venture into the spiritual, you will have limited real students. However you are a good teacher and can teach students with special needs, handicapped children, or students of the esoteric.

You are not bothered with expressing your creativity. There is no pride or no ego related to your creative output. (Should never gamble.)

There is one observation here, the 5th house indicates the physical heart. So there may be some medical conditions if aspected by malefics. Take care of your upper back too in such a case. (This in rare cases if there is support from the rest of the horoscope can allow the Kundalini to rise.) But as Ketu is completely astral his main effect is to create a sense of sadness, grief perhaps. You are psychically detached from divine love or perhaps the word is self-love? but you never know that you yearn for this sort of love. The essence of love? A sense of undefinable loneliness prevails over the Ketu of the 5th house.

Rahu in the 11th house

If Ketu is placed in the 5th house naturally Rahu would be in the opposite 11th house, 180degrees apart..

Rahu in the 11th house from the ascendant is a wish come true perhaps? Rahu in the 11th the house of gain, would have created ambitions in the initial life but Rahu comes to his maturity only after 48yrs of life. And the 11th is an upchaya  उपचय house, gives better results with age. The 11th is the house of gains, extended like-minded groups, markets, foreigners, luck, relationships with large groups, mostly impersonal type of relationships.

Rahu here desires social recognition, social mobility, often political power, a wide circle of friends, corporate networking, community participation, profits and gains, is very ambitious. Uses unconventional methods to rise but this rise can be sustained only if some benefic planet influences Rahu. Even if there are intermittent falls, Rahu uses them as opportunities and manages to rise again. He challenges the conventional always so in the 11th house he has infinite potential to showcase genius and also to manipulate. Rahu has the ability to merge in every group in a very fascinating manner. He accepts everyone into his circle, irrespective of class, creed or mind-sets.

But is important to remember that how-much-ever Rahu strives onwards the Ketu in the 5th house grants an unfocussed intelligence, an eccentric genius, there is detachment here. So if Ketu is more powerful than Rahu in your chart this factor can cause more falls in the material perspective than material gains. If your 5th house occupied by Ketu is not supported by other solidifying benefic aspects, you will not be able to make the most of Rahu’s capability. Rahu in the 11th makes one ruthless and grants a complete disregard for rules, conventions and regulations. Plus out-of-the-box thinking. You are actually a philosopher who also has the confidence and ruthlessness to act. You can strategise very well and also keep secrets. Can prosper in business, especially import/export related. Material earnings will be quite good in any case. There might be awards and prizes too.

If you try to gain using Rahu’s powers of illegality, breaking the rules, pretending, cheating and posing, your fortune will not last. So after a rather dissatisfied first half of life, the second half can fulfil desires. But what desires? The frustration of the first half of life and the maturation of all planets will have changed your mind-set. Spirituality would have set in and changed the type of desires which Rahu will then fulfil. This 5/11 Ketu-Rahu is considered exceptional for spiritual growth also. The personality tries to find its balance between the individual self-ego and the unlimited Consciousness. This combination can grant an outwardly simple ego-less plain personality, well-known in public life, a high social stature, is wealthy and also is involved in deep esoteric activities. (Something like a saint who is also a king, perhaps?)

The mother’s and father’s families are often a source of problems. Brothers and extended families are generally troublesome. Children display occult abilities or in rare cases can be specially abled. Spouse is a social climber, a politician or a successful businessman. Friends are also exotic, fascinating but not really life-time friends, they also are a bit odd, occultists and astrologer type, not really bff material! So there exists potential for invalidation from all relationships. ‘Validation’ is an important component of any relationship. This is always missing. Satisfaction is missing from every aspect of life, personal or the extended.

Sometimes complete destruction is necessary to rise again spectacularly. This placement sometimes reflects this as the first half of the life goes in a haze. The second half is more vivid and happy. Things will move after Rahu and Ketu attain maturity. You will see a marked change in your life during the age of 42-47yrs.

If you have Ketu placed 5th from the birth Moon and thus the Rahu 11th from Moon, the results will be as per the above except the context will be exclusively on the emotional planes.

Ketu Mahdasha and Rahu Mahadasha as per the Vimshottari system, will be quite happening periods. Especially Rahu-Ketu sub-period and Ketu-Rahu antardasha will be quite karmically heavy-duty. Their sub-periods in the other planet’s Mahadasha-s also will burn karma fast. Their transits are also quite slow with 1.5yrs in each sign, (right now they are in Capricorn /Cancer) so keep a look out here too. Periods heavy with Rahu/ Ketu energy will grant profits and gains but after their periods are complete these gains too may erode.

Doing mantra -jaap of Rahu and Ketu on Tuesdays/Saturdays and especially during eclipses is very beneficial. In fact you should aggressively use every eclipse which occurs, not let even one single event pass by.

Rahu is the engine which drives your chart and Ketu is the last guard-cabin. The desire to experience and apathy to experience. In energy-terms these are the influences which push your perfect internal energy -geometry out of shape. Life is all about experience and energy, so analyse these two astral tendencies, Rahu-Ketu carefully in your chart, they reveal your deepest motivations.

Have written about Rahu in the 5th and Ketu in the 11th house in this post.

Reiki attunement, about the risks

I read a post on fb, where an expecting lady wrote that she got a Reiki attunement done during her pregnancy. Most of the responses were congratulating her, saying that its super that the child will be born psychic! One response was from someone, writing that she got her 6yr old initiated into Reiki and saying that the child is beautifully attuned to seeing emotions.

So utterly clueless.

I am a Reiki teacher so are 3 of my brothers/cousins. So I know quite well what it is and how the initiation process happens.

This is what happens during a Reiki initiation, very briefly. The teacher first cleans out his own aura and stills his mind. Then he clears the room/space by whichever cleansing method he prefers. He calls on the Reiki teachers of the past and requests help from his own source of faith also. Next is to clean out the aura of the student. Then the energy level of the student is brought to the level of the teacher. The aura of the student is ‘opened’ using specific Reiki symbols. The Reiki symbols give access to the energy system of the student. The chakras are accessed and the symbols to be given in the initiation are inserted inside them. The energy body of the student now changes, the flow of vital energy changes its ‘flavour’. The chakras of the hands are opened so that the symbols get connected here too. The entire thing is now sealed. Then the aura is closed and the initiation is done.

After initiation, the energy flow in the body alters significantly and this change is permanent. Even if there is some problem with the teacher, the space or the student, the symbols always work. The initiation will be successful but the overall experience will become uneasy and this will have a subtle impact on the student’s energy self. And then after the initiation is complete, the teacher gives his blessings to the student. During initiation the teacher generally gets a message from the Universe/Reiki which he tells the student. This message is very important and brings about a deep change in the mind-set of the student. This is generally linked to some significant event/issue from the student’s past lives.

The Gayatri mantra

There are a few important points which have to be understood here. It is assumed that the teacher knows these things. But the problem is with such a proliferation of energy-teachers and healers you cannot be sure if the teacher really knows what he is doing. And it is important that the student understands these things.

First of all the teacher.

The teacher should be someone who is doing his own spiritual practice and is able to still his mind. He should be of a higher energy level that the student. If your personal energy is higher than that of the teacher it will be quite an uneasy experience for you.(Long ago, one of my Dad’s friends was insisting he learn Reiki from him. Dad was not interested but as I was sitting in the room, he casually asked me if he should learn energy-healing from him. I was in school and didn’t know what ‘learning Reiki’ meant. But it was obvious that Dad was huge on the energy levels and his friend was nothing. I said no! so strongly that I still remember that incident till now.)

Then getting a really knowledgeable teacher who understands what he is doing can be quite difficult. I would never do initiation for someone who is not 18yrs of age. During initiation, I am manipulating someone’s aura in a very deep way. Actually inserting intentions ie the symbols inside the chakras! The aura is protection, its job is to filter everything from the physical universe before letting it within. Opening someone’s aura is making him so deeply vulnerable, I cannot describe it in words. The direct access to the chakras is another extremely sensitive step. So the student should be an adult, he should understand what is being done and then he should agree. The mental state of the teacher is very important. If he is personally upset, the process will be affected, eg if he is unwell or has had an argument with someone etc. Also if by ill-luck you meet an unscrupulous teacher, he can implant suggestions inside your aura in your chakras. So do a through check on the Reiki teacher first.

Second is the space.

Initiation is to be avoided when the atmosphere is heavy with energy. Eg a rainy day with thunder and lightning. Or on full-moon or no-moon nights or the dark fortnight of the Bhadrapad month (pitru-paksh) when the spirits are more active. Or twilights and eclipses. Avoid such days of dense energies. This is the teacher’s duty to check if the environment is conducive.

Third is you, the student.

This is attunement, you are getting a new type of energy to resonate in your energy body, so you should prepare your body, mind and soul for this new energy modality. This means asking the teacher all that you want to know, in addition to what the teacher is teaching. Ask questions. Learn about the process and how you can use this energy later. At least for a week before you have your initiation scheduled, do some mediation, deep breathing exercises, eat light food, avoid alcohol and stimulants. This will ensure that you will be able to make the most of the initiation process.

For women.

There is a constraint, no initiation on the 5 days of the monthly cycle. The chakras are moving in the anti-clockwise direction at this time. No initiation when expecting. A pregnant lady should not do anything to her energy body while she is expecting and at least for 3 months after the baby is born. She should not be sitting on her Asan, no Dhyan, no manipulation of pran, no attunements of any healing modality or anything that causes any change to her energy body. During pregnancy the baby-soul moves into the astral body of the mother and is aware of everything that is happening to the mother on every level, physical, astral, psychic, energy etc. Being made in the womb is a rather painful process, the body of the baby is being formed/ broken/ re-formed and it causes pain. However the baby-soul links itself to the mother and draws support from her in every way. The mother should not give the baby-soul any energy shocks. When her aura, her chakras and her energies are get manipulated the unborn child is also affected.

The Gayatri mantra

Then children.

A child should never be exposed to any sort of energy surges or any intentional modification in his energy channels/chakras. A child is still in the process of development. Till the age of 14 – 16yrs, ie till the child attains physical maturity he/she is still being formed, the energy channels are still delicate and fragile. (18yrs onwards is best, full growth is done with and he is an adult now). Anything out of the ordinary in the childhood will cause energy fluctuations in his body which will have effects on his pran-mai-kosh/ subtle body and can carry on to the next life too. A child till the age of 7yrs is on the border-line, he has not yet completely forgotten his past life and neither has he begun to fully identify himself with his present personality. He still retains the ability to sense the psychic, the astral realms. If in this unformed state you push an attunement on his energy body it can cause very deep seated problems.

Children can see auras, energy, spirits and ‘other’ things, but as a non-intentional ability, mainly for self protection. (eg I have a pleasant, high energy aura, random babies look at me, smile at me and come to me without a murmur. One of my past driver had a grey-streaked aura, my son never could sit in the car when he was driving.) This ability to sense the astral dimensions disappears naturally at 3-6yrs of age. Now if you make the child aware about these things, he can start using it consciously and eventually attract predatory entities etc.

Children give their energy very easily. If you initiate your child into any energy healing modality, he can give without being aware of it. This can be very dangerous.

Then we, in our cities, are surrounded by negative energies, sick depressed people, unsavoury thoughts in the mind, in addition to the regular spirits, ghosts etc. Why make your child see these things consciously? The child cannot stop seeing now. he will see it all the time! There is a reason why this ability to see the psychic is lost at age 3-6yrs, it is not for everyone. If you work with energy realise that you are required by karma to do so. It is nothing very exciting or special. It is just work, like anything else. Sometimes it is quite helpful, but sometimes it becomes a burden. Intentionally modifying the energy channels of a child and an unborn baby when he has no say in the matter and does not understand what is happening is a crime.

The pregnant lady went and got herself attuned and so did the 6yr old child, presumably they did not really understand the process. And the teacher too allowed and participated in this highly unethical Reiki initiation.

Working with energy is not for everyone. It does sound very exciting but it is quite serious. There are several healing modalities like Reiki, magnified healing etc. So if you do choose to take up energy work and get initiated into something do think twice about why you are doing it. What is your objective. Then do research about the credentials of the teacher. And then prepare yourself so that you can make the most of the experience.

Dharma Trikon of the horoscope

The 12 houses of the horoscope are divided into the Dharma Trikon, houses 1, 5 and 9. The Arth Trikon houses 2, 6 and 10. The Kama Trikon of houses 3, 7 and 11 and the Moksh Trikon houses 4, 8 and 12.

Every human needs these 4 categories of activities to live a reasonably comfortable and happy life. These are Sanskrit words so have layers of meanings and cannot be translated exactly. However, broadly Dharma is the foundation of your life, from the physical environments to the spiritual principles and the deepest understanding of these. Arth is all the hoards, the income, finances and wealth, all the assets and treasuries that you build up on ever level the physical, emotional spiritual etc, and also your understanding of these. Kama is the all the desires that you have, desires ranging from company of friends, interaction with the society, with the spouse and to being with your own Self. These desires also operate on all levels. And finally Moksh, the closure of every aspect of this life, the ultimate understanding of each aspect and also the foundations that you lay down in the astral which will serve as the seeds of your next life experience.

Dharm trikon/triangle is the three houses, 1, 5 and 9 and the aspects of your life that they indicate. Here you decide your personal dharma/Swadharma. (The universal Dharma is called Rita). You choose what is right for you, the right social context, the right creativity and the right philosophies.

The First House

The 1st natural house of the zodiac is Aries, and its ruler Mars, so Aries and Mars wherever they may be located will have a subtle influence on the matters of the 1st house, in addition the actual sign and its planetary ruler.

The 1st house is the house of your personality, the energy of your physical manifestation, the beauty of your face, your skin, complexion, the proportions of your body. Your physical appearance the muscle strength the vitalness, the competitive energies, basically the force of your personality expressed in every way possible. The energies of the Annamaya-kosha, the layer of your body which is visible to the eyes are the 1st house or the ascendant. The 1st house also has its say on how your body and mind can enjoy what is available to you. Do you permit yourself the capacity to enjoy pleasure or pain! Do you have significant personal integrity? Also are you honorable and dependable? This house lays the foundation of your physical life. This is the house of beginnings and the potential that you derive from your birth. Your birth circumstances, social status and the role you are expected to perform in the society. The experience of your early childhood. All of this is connected to the assets you have accumulated in your immediate past life.

How you feel about your social position? Do you actively work to improve it or damage it further? How do others treat you as a matter of routine? Is your voice heard in your social setting? Social ranking is also related to material accomplishment and contributes to your ego. Thus what society thinks of you, determines your quality of life experiences.

This house is counted 5th from the 9th house, thus is the expression of the guidance and philosophies that you have chosen for yourself and guided in this by your Guru, paternal figures, patrons and peers. It is the 9th from the 5th house so is the summation of the deeper understanding of your own creative forces and your active use of them.

Ultimately you desire social validation and use your physical attributes to compete, this lays the foundation of your social personality. The domain of the 1st house.

Dharma Trikon of the horoscope

The Fifth House

This is the house of your creative expressions. The natural zodiac sign here is Leo, ruled by the Sun. So Leo and Sun wherever they may be located will have a subtle influence on the matters of the 5th house.

You are known by your actions, you maybe famous or notorious, both are expressions of your personal creative actions. You will be made visible through your behaviour e.g. a leader with power or performing arts like dances, theatre, musical compositions. Or you will be made visible by your channelising of abstract divine intelligence, your scholarship, publications drawing, painting and writing. This is the house of being Visible, the natural ruler is the Sun!

The 5th also indicates your higher education. Training in skills, practice and preparation. guidance from parents and teachers, personal focus and also your confidence which comes from a secure childhood environment. And then the capacity to think and to convert what you been taught into new actions. All this provides you a platform for your accomplishments which will be then recognised socially.

Another function of the 5th is to create new ways of using information/intelligence and also drive the society as such to a newer understanding of civilisation. Also to create new children who will live in this newer version of civilisation.

(One point to be noted here. I have seen charts with auspicious placements concerning 5th house but having no children. The more powerful this house is, the more will you be inclined to use its energies for high art, high intellectual expression, superb performances, or great spiritual/political leaderships, rather than producing children from your own physical body. If you observe, genuine and great achievers in any field (artists/leaders/sadhus/etc) have no or limited physical children, if they have any they will engage nannies to take care of them.)

This house is the 5th from the 1st house, thus obviously is the creative expression of the personality. It is also the 9th from the 9th, thus is the foundation of auspiciousness and all sorts of fortune/Bhagya in the horoscope.

This is the house of your speculative creativity and its resultant fame. The Glory of your Ego.

The Ninth House

This is the theoretical basis of your life, here you choose the creed you live by here. The natural zodiac sign here is Sagittarius, ruled by Jupiter. So Sagittarius and Jupiter wherever they may be located will have a subtle influence on the matters of the 9th house.

Your belief system which has developed out of your own creative processes and the religious system that you relate you.The paternal figures whom you choose and really respect as a father-figure (Biological father is the 10th house, you do not have a choice in this). This is the house of the Guru, the one who teaches you wisdom. (Modern education is not about wisdom, it is more the 3rd house). The help and support that the society will give you, your peers and patrons and the elders who help you further your place in society.

The philosophies which are your own (the ideas you were trained in are seen from the 4th house). The ancestral wisdom that derives from the ancestors of your current life and the wisdom you have garnered throughout your own past lives. This is the house of sustained study, deep contemplation and the intention of Dharma. You want to know the deepest possible in the domain of study here which may not have any direct practical application but is the foundation of all your mental processes. Your moral wisdom, your sense of humanity and your associations with similarly philosophical persons and institutions. Your understanding of the divine-human association is the 9th.

Your Bhagya/auspiciousness. The 9th house indicates the best of the best associations that you have created for yourself.

All the 4 types of trikons are based on creative expressions. Example, in the Dharma trikon, the 5th is the creative expression of the 1st, the 9th is the creative expression of the 5th and the 1st is again the creative expression of the 9th. Each house is counted 5th from the other. This is true for all the trikons. All the 4 types of trikons are also based on philosophies and deepest understandings. Example, the Dharma trikon, 9th is counted 9th from the 1st, the 5th is counted 9th from the 9th and the 1st is counted 9th from the 5th. Thus they are the deepest understanding and philosophical depths of each other.

In horoscope analysis this 5-9 axis is very important. For analysing every house do take into account the placement 5th and 9th from it. These represent the conversion of all the manifested/subtle assets of that house into new visible creative expressions. These visible actions are then again analysed with newer ways of thinking and converted to deep philosophies. And these deep philosophies are then manifested in the physical realm. This cycle is the cycle of evolution and growth for every house and thus the entire personality.
