Argala in Jyotish

There are so many ways you can use your horoscope to pull even more information. And because there are not many Jyotishis left who know and then who actually use these techniques, we are missing out on these tiny nuances of analysis. Here is the Argala of Jyotish to pique your interest.laces-2.jpgArgala means a bolt, latch, impediment or check, and as a concept is quite simple to use. It gives valuable insights which you might miss out in your regular analysis. Use the basic birth chart D-1 for Argala analysis.

A very simple example, if you have a client with problems with his mother, naturally you will check out the 4th house, birth moon and everything to do with it to come to a conclusion. But still you are not satisfied and the situation does not tally with the charts check the argala/obstructing forces on the 4th house (and the moon too). The astrological concept is this..

  1. The 2nd, 4th and 11th houses counted from a house or a planet are its principal argala/obstruction. The planets and signs here and their powers will influence the potential of the house under consideration.
  • The planets placed in the 12th can nullify the argala of 2nd house.
  • The planets placed in the 10th can oppose the argala presented by the 4th house.
  • The planets in the 3rd can nullify the argala presented by the 11th house.
  1. The 5th and 8th from a house or a planet present the minor argala/obstacle to the matters of that house.
  • The minor argala presented by the 5th house can be nullified by the sign/planet placed in the 9th house.
  • And finally the minor argla of the 8th will be nullified by the position in the 6th house.

This may have sounded very confusing but its quite simple. Let’s continue our simple example just to get you thinking about this topic. ‘Someone not getting along with his mother.’

From the 4th house the house second is the 5th house. Obviously in his interactions with his mother, if this person is only about his own good times (topics of the natural 2nd) which in his chart are represented by the planets in the 5th (also ego, self-referential behaviours, selfishness etc seen from here), the interactions with the mother represented by the 4th are going to suffer. These tensions can be less or more depending on the number/strength of the planets placed in 5th.

  • Now the obstruction represented by the 5th (second from the 4th house) will be nullified by the planets positioned in the twelfth from 4th, i.e. the 3rd house. If there are strong planets here they will make this person to be of some service to his mother in some way, eg take her to family or community functions. This person may feel like this is an imposition on him but doing this will immensely improve his relationship with his mother.

The next obstruction will be presented by the situation in the house counted fourth  from the house under analysis. So fourth from 4th is the 7th house. (topics of the 7th include spouse, partnerships etc). Naturally if the 7th is strong with several planets placed here to reinforce it, the arrival of the wife/husband will diminish the relationship with the mother drastically. Also if the person does a lot of business with a lot of partners the relationship with the mother will be obstructed.

  • So this obstruction presented by the fourth from house concerned, will be countered by the house counted tenth from the house. So tenth counted from 4th is the 1st house/ascendant sign. So if this 1st house is strong enough with strong planet placements, the obstacle presented by the 7th house on the matters of the 4th house/mother will diminish. If the person has a strong personality he will not let the spouse/partnership dominate his relationship with his mother.

The third argala on matters of the 4th/relationship with the mother is to be seen from the power of the house counted eleventh from the 4th, i.e. the 2nd house. This is also quite logical, the eleventh from house represents the larger landscape, interactions with wider groups and income/gains of that house. In this case, if the planets placed in the 2nd house are strong enough the relationship with the mother will be placed secondary to the benefits/gains/resources that he will get from her. Also he will prefer interacting with a larger group of maternal figures in his family (matters of the 2nd house) rather than his personal mother.

  • This obstacle will be nullified by the planets and power of the house counted third from 4th, i.e. the 6th house. If these planets are strong enough they will create situations where the person will be required to again be of service to his mother, especially in common interactions in the extended family and in the neighbourhood.

This was a very simplistic example of how argala works in Jyotish. This is a very useful concept and is used in birth chart analysis and also in Prashana. It is more important in Prashna and should be always used before coming to a conclusion here. argalaDo remember that a single placement can never be used for drawing conclusions. Astrology is about learning to recognise patterns. Nothing is fixed in stone, it is never absolute. These patterns show tendencies and probablities. Absolute results cannot be predicted ever. Humans have free will and if you can recognise the pattern and the freedom of choice that you have in it, you can change the course of events, always!

Vedic Jyotish is like the bottomless ocean, you can keep learning for a lifetime and even several lifetimes, it is very enjoyable. You have so many precise tools in your hands which you use to unravel the mystery of your own self!

I get this question from clients, “my sis-in-law does not know that I have come here with her birth details, can you tell me —- about her?”. In this privacy obsessed world, this question comes across as a bit off! I mean, why should anyone carry her sis-in-law’s chart to an astrologer and ask him whats going on in her life? But this happens a lot. ‘What is my ex-boyfriend doing’ to ‘who is my father-in-law going to leave his wealth to’. Astrology has deviated from its original form of Jyotish, and some astrologers will answer these questions quite easily and also charge quite a bit of money.adult adventure automobile binocularsThere is no privacy in the Universe. We are all interconnected so very deeply that we can know everything about everyone if only we care to ask. You ‘see’ a lot about other persons in your daily life, you are just not aware that you do it. You ‘see’ extra things. Your sub-conscious is always at work, providing you background data about the persons/places you are interacting with. This is your ‘gut-feel’. We astrologers and Readers, channelise this gut-feel actively and use it intentionally to ‘see’ more about the clients. I use about 75% from the charts in front of me and 25% from my intuition/sub-conscious. I can also use 100% from my intuition, but that would be quite creepy for the client and tiring for me!

So when you visit an astrologer, card reader, aura reader, palm reader or anyone who can read/divine things about you, do understand that he will ‘see’ everything about you. There are no secrets. Your horoscope contains details on your present life/death, your past lives, your emotions, your finances, your likes/dislikes, everything. Your wife/husband may not know if you are cheating on her/him, but your astrologer will. A sensible astrologer will always be careful with what he says and how much information he shares. If he is unscrupulous, he will use your data to get you dependant on him. Knowing which buttons to push, he can use you. So first point, visit someone who is trustworthy. Get some details on him from your friends, or call him first to get an idea of what kind of a person he is, use your ‘gut-feel’. This has become just like any other profession now, so take care.review-viewing-platform-view-sky-160407.jpegAnother trend is astrology discussion groups. Discussions on combinations and planets and events anonymously is one thing, but posting complete birth details in public is something else altogether! I see this happening on Facebook so very often. Several posts on synastry and overlapping charts and “how is my relationship going to be with my new boyfriend”, with random strangers then commenting. Most likely the boyfriend does not know about this post in public! He might see it later and get angry with you. And the vibrations from such a large number of strangers dissecting both the charts and their good/bad/indifferent comments will disturb both you and your boyfriend on a deep level. Not a good idea.

Do no evil! It is such a cliche but it is so true. If you approach an energy worker to do something negative against your boss, remember that you too will be a victim of the same things sooner or later. There are people who use their talents to get money rather than genuinely help people.

When you go to an astrologer, you are prepared to tell anything and everything. And are also looking forward to listen to all the ‘juicy secrets’ hidden in your chart. So go alone, even your husband/wife/best friend will act as a barrier to a really good session. You cannot go talk about your innermost secrets in front of your bff! Also do not go home and discuss what you learnt with your bff. Rather record the session, so that you can refer back to it later. woman in blue denim jacket holding a gray steel tower viewerSelect your Reader and your questions carefully. You are sacrificing your privacy in a big way, so the outcomes should be worth it. Check out if your session has actually helped you. Did your astrologer give you some vague generic answers or did you relate to what was discussed there. Some questions to ponder.

  • How do you see yourself? Your moods, motivations, apathies, attractions, actions and behaviour.
    • Has the reading helped you understand yourself better?
  • How do you see things and other people around you? Do you get bogged down in details and lost in the whole or vice versa?
    • Has the reading helped you re-balance your perceptions, get a more balanced view?
  • You change, every day. You try to change your circumstances, but it often requires more resources than you may have. You try to change your husband/child but its realistically not possible. You can however change your world-view by working on yourself.
    • Has the Reader allowed you a chance to sit back, relax and gain wisdom from his analysis of your chart? Has this reading helped you change for the better?
  • Sometimes you are at cross-roads, not sure of your purpose in life and you have problems.
    • Has the Reader made you aware of your available assets, plus-points, and the new directions in life and possible solutions?
  • Finally, has the reading resonated with you? Have you felt it to be right? And can you use the suggestions and pointers to live a better adjusted and happier life?

An astrologer is someone just like you and me, a Doctor by another name. Not infallible. All they do is provide markers for your life journey, but you have to travel on your road yourself. They are on the same life journey themselves thus are encumbered by their own perceptions. Do not let them dictate to you, listen to them but choose your path and decide for yourself. You should visit them to get free of your bindings, do not allow them to create new bindings on your Will.

Indications for wealth in a horoscope

bank note banknote banknotes billWealth is always important. We need money, assets, property and lands to survive in this materialistic life. In a chart there are several indicators from where we can analyse the assets available. The basic indicators are these following houses, counted from the ascendant in the basic chart with the ascendant as the first house. Depending on the interaction between these, the planets and the aspects, the house owners etc the extent of finances can be determined.

  1. House 1/Ascendant which indicates the social status, situation and environment at birth. Benefics, and aspects by benefics raises the quality of this house which will have life time effects.
  2. House 2 –  This is the house of family wealth specifically available to you. Your family may be rich but if this house is afflicted this family resources may not be made available to you. I have seen a chart, with Aquarius as the 2nd house with Mars, Sun and Ketu in it aspected by Saturn from the 8th. This person’s family is very wealthy but the parents kicked him out without a rupee and he had to build his own wealth himself. Ketu here shows disconnection from family assets.
  3. House 3 – This is the house of local connections. It shows your self made wealth in the environment of the local markets, extended family and neighbours. A strong 3rd house gives you your boldness and confidence in this wealth making behaviour. It also indicates your early education. This same person has Pisces with Mercury and Moon in the 3rd giving him a very analytic mind and he is earning his wealth as a trader and on the stock-markets. He has amazing memory, is walking database of figures and uses his computing powers to generate even more money.
  4. House 5 is the house of creativity and divine intelligence. Thus all sorts of games of chance are located here. Speculation, gambling, genius work here. Higher education is seen from here which in a way leads to future profession.
  5. House 9 is the house of Auspiciousness ‘Bhagya’. It shows your mindset, the beliefs and philosophy that you live your life by. It is the anchor, the foundations of your life, your Conscience. It also indicates the patrons and the paternal figures who are always available to provide help to you. Patronage is a very important component of wealth generation. If you are apprenticed to a well-known personality your way in your profession becomes easier.
  6. House 11 is the house of networks and gains from every possible source. Inter-connected similar-minded groups and interactions with strangers, foreigners, and exotic traders. Fortune and luck in all things possible and storage of personally earned money. A chart I know has Jupiter and Moon in Virgo as 3rd and Ketu in the 11th. He has been earning his own money since he was practically a child of 12yrs, but is not interested in saving, he gives away all his money, to poor students and to needy persons on a one-one basis.

bank banknotes bills business(If you have access to the exact birth time, the divisional charts can be calculated and used for confirmation, the D9 called Navamsha, the D-24 called the Siddhamsha and the D-60 called the Shashthiamsha. But if you are not sure about your exact birth time even by 1 minute, never draw the divisional charts, they will mislead.)

In addition to these houses the following planets also contribute to the money flow

  1. Venus is the agent of beauty, harmony, pleasure and comfort which are generally rooted in having sufficient finances. He also controls bargains, partnerships, businesses, legal dues and equitable sharing.
  2. Jupiter is the natural agent of expansion and magnanimity. He brings abundance in the house he is located in, the 5th from it and the 9th from it.
  3. Mercury is the agent of commerce and communication. he controls transactions, trade and naturally brings manipulative skill with data, finance, and critical analytical skills required to make money.
  4. Also any graha even Rahu if placed in suitable environment can provide wealth.

bank-note-euro-bills-paper-money-63635.jpegNow each house is capable of conferring ‘wealth’ related to the matters of that house. Even the 8th house of death can confer wealth in terms of legacies and monies left in wills. So from every house the following houses should be counted to gain a fuller perspective of the real gain from that house. These can also be counted from the position of each planet to analyse gain from the matters governed by that planet.

  1. The 2nd house counted from any house will give the type of and amount of resources and treasures derivable from that house.
  2. The 5th house counted from any house will indicate the creativity and divine intelligence that this house channelizes.
  3. The 9th house counted from every house will show how much wisdom, philosophy and understanding you have gained from the experiences of that house.
  4. The 11th house counted from any house will indicate the profit, the luck and the full and final achievements from that house.

But wealth is a complicated thing. Someone may have plenty of money but may not use it just hoard it, never use it, not even to help the children. Some may earn lots but then spend equally lots, net nil savings. Some may have little money but are happy. Some have lots but are unsatisfied, want even more. These emotional aspects are to be seen from the birth moon sign and its placements. Our Shastra/scriptures say that the person who does not want anything is truly wealthy, this then is the realm of the spiritual!

Work with Astrology or Reiki, it is easy!

I have been a Vedic astrologer all my life, in fact perhaps several lives. I have experimented with several divination systems and they have always worked for me. Divination or Reading is seeing patterns and matching with past experiences and examples with theory. The more you practice and study the better you get at this. It takes interest, time and effort. Intuition also plays a very important role and some spiritual practice is essential where you can rest your active mind and allow the sub-conscious to take over.

However in the past 10-15 years, ever since the Internet, social groups and Internet driven consumerism took off, divination and tools of divination are being sold and traded around as a lifestyle! Someone ‘does’ Reiki, someone is taking online classes on becoming a shaman, or someone is discussing his stellium, or chiron quintile with lilith or persephone biquintile with hades! And all in a course designed to teach you in 3 months! How is it even possible to learn in 3 months? When you decide to Read, you should realise that sooner or later, some one is going to make his life-decision based on what you told him. So you need to be serious and responsible about how you study.

Then again , why complicate your divination tools, with chirons and liliths? The tools are just that tools! These systems have been designed and put in place by seers, and have worked perfectly for thousands of years. The Indian astronomy mathematics is still from the Sanskrit book “Surya Siddhanta”, written by Mayadanav who lived millenia ago.

So today let’s put a critical lens on the energy tools and divination systems consumer market and see how we are purposely making it more difficult for ourselves.

Vedic Astrology

Yesterday someone on Facebook was commenting that Indian/Vedic astrology is garbage because it does not consider planets beyond Saturn. So in one statement this guy has negated the work of millennia! And possibly influenced a few genuinely interested Western students against attempting to learn it.

Indian/Vedic astrologers use Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, their names are Shwet, Shyam and Teevra, in determining the destinies of nations as nations survive for hundreds of years. But now this branch of astrology is practically dead as no one practices it anymore. Our modern nation’s governments do not have a post called “Raj-Jyotishi”, (astrologer to the Kings) anymore. In human horoscopes, these 3 planets are simply too slow moving to have any discernible impact on our tiny lives of about 60yrs. For us humans, with just the 9 grahas and 12 houses, we can predict everything about a person, accurate to the year, month and date! In case the client does not know his birth time, but has both his palms intact, we can calculate his birth time upto the exact second, from the lines on his 10 fingers.

Vedic is sidereal mathematics, the precession, wobble and axial tilt of the earth is accounted for and the calculations corrected every year. The Earth is tilted, thus the motion of the earth is not even, it wobbles like a top, this is called precession. For any astronomical calculation to be correct this precession has to be calculated. The Indian system does this calculation. It means that the maths is accurate, the position of the celestial bodies in the sky and their calculated position in the horoscope is exact.

Western tropical system does not consider the earth to be tilted! Their calculations are hopelessly wrong and stuck in the astronomy of the past about 2000yrs ago, since then no corrections in the mathematics. There are such posts on FB, “I am a Cap, but I don’t feel like one!”. So the answer is, “Do you feel like Sagittarius ? Because western Capricorn, if less than 24°, will be Vedic Sagittarius!”. Now, for some cryptic reason, they have added about 10 asteroids to this mess, hades, chiron, persephone, lilith etc! And complain that astrology has f$%^ed up their lives!

And then there are oodles of new software available in the market, progressed charts, synastry, name it and there is a software creating it. But why? There is a perfectly accurate way of matching horoscopes, ashtakoot, or porutham. Why create a synastry chart which has no value for analysis and prediction. So for Indian/Vedic system, for windows, “Jagannatha Hora” or “Parashar’s Light” are quite good. For android I have found “Hindu calendar” by developer “Alok Mandavgane” and for iphones “Drik panchang” by developer “Adarsh apps” to be quite accurate and user friendly.

girls on desk looking at notebook

So a word from experience. Stick to Indian/Vedic, stick to simple, avoid the asteriods. Learn the keywords of the 9 planets, 12 houses/signs. Gradually build up the keywords till you can analyse the chart and get a perfect overview of the personality. Then learn the combinations and stuff you need for predictions. Find a good teacher. And practice.

Reiki – a very easy to use and effective energy tool

I am a Reiki teacher. FB groups are again flooded with requests for Reiki. Of course some of them are quite genuine, but the majority are like, “I have bad memories please send me Reiki”. This sounds like laziness to me. To cope with such issues what is needed is cleansing and grounding. The person has to work on himself. Only then will the inner sub-conscious receive Reiki for further healing! Mikao Usui discovered Reiki about a humdred years ago, and his basic advice was that everyone should learn Reiki and do their own healings! After his death, his students and later practitioners tweaked with his system. But Reiki is primarily a tool for self healing.

reiki.jpg

And I realised the wisdom of Mikao Usui’s statement recently. One of my acquaintances is ill, I felt for her and tried distance healing. To my utter surprise, the Reiki sent did not ‘hook’ into her. There was nothing in her which was latching on the beam of energy, it was just washing over her. So I asked my brother to help her. His words were that the sent Reiki was moving through her like through a sieve, not actually going in. Quite concerned, we visited her in hospital, turns out she was so busy blaming her (perfectly innocent) mother-in-law for her auto-immune disease that she was not bothered with her own health. She was in fact wishing for her MIL’s death! No wonder the Reiki did not stick on her, with her terribly hateful and negative mindset!

There is another problem with sending healing energy to others, possibly practitioners do not appreciate it. You get connected to the energy body of the other person while sending reiki. And the channel is open, if you are not careful and alert during the process you may pick up something unwanted from the aura of the recipient. This happened to me once during an initiation process where I saw something potentially distasteful in the student. But I quickly raised by guards and avoided the worst, but still fell ill for a few days after that.

So if anyone is ‘into’ Reiki, instead of sending healing, do offer to initiate others so that everyone gets empowered and does their own healing. (Unless its a request to help small children or the elderly. Heal only those ill, who actually want to get better). And even when you are doing the initation do be careful.

pexels-photo-1148998.jpeg

As with other energy tools, Reiki also has developed new streams! Just like the asteroids of Western astrology, new branches coming up, Karuna, Rainbow, Kundalini etc. These in my opinion are just new ways for Reiki teachers to make even more money from initiations! Last I heard, they were charging Rs 80,000/- for ‘level one Karuna Reiki’ initiation.

Stick with the original, Usui Reiki. You can do anything and everything with these symbols. Dig deep into them, meditate on them, use them. Develop a spiritual practice to power on your intentions. Reiki is not an ice-cream shop with flavours! Some of the things that you can do with Reiki; get a flight delayed so that you can catch it, clear the traffic off the roads, heal pre-mature birth related body problems even at the age of 25yrs, get your boss to change his mind, make it rain, heal plants and animals, get nice produce from your kitchen garden, quiet your crying baby, remove evil eye, charge and cleanse other energy tools, increase the efficacy of medicines, make food tastier, get your child to eat his dinner.. anything that requires energy and intention you can do it with Reiki!

pexels-photo-1510540.jpeg

The spiritual merchandise market is booming these days and genuine aspirants can get easily caught spending their time and money on things which may be of no use and even discourage them from learning. But of course, if you have learnt and experienced everything possible with your current system, then you should explore more. There are three things that should always guide you;

  1. This thing you are doing should be described in an authoritative reference book.
  2. If not then, your Teacher should have recommended it.
  3. And if not, and most importantly, you should be really convinced that you need to do it.

Abortions and implications, astrologically

Abortions are quite routine in today’s society, with even over-the-counter pills available for intentionally aborting the baby. Women abort for several reasons, no time for child, conceived by mistake, career concerns, or family insistent for a male child only, several reasons including medical reasons. All this drama and eventual tragedy of the actual abortion directly connects with the horoscope.https://psychologicallyastrology.comLets first check out the factors which influence conception and the eventual birth of a child

  1. Mainly the 5th house, the owner planet, the occupant planets, and the aspects
  2. Sign Leo and its occupant planets, position of the Sun to some extent
  3. 9th house for any ‘family curses’ or ancestor related problems
  4. 8th house for the status of the reproductive system of the parent.

If there are malefic influences in these houses then there are chances of problems related to conception, pregnancy, delivery, health of the mother or child. There would be then the medical complications which lead to medical termination of pregnancy etc. This is a slightly different scene as already there are malefics affecting reproduction and there is a built-in bias for complications. Here the remedies need to be taken up before attempting to conceive.

In this post I am discussing the wilful and intentional abortion where a healthy mother aborts a healthy fetus.

So when the woman conceives a normal child she is expected to birth it and nurture it, she is a mother. She has utilised the forces of creation given to her. The man is also now a father and his duty is to support the mother and his child as he is able. This is Rule of the Conscience/Dharma. There is some controversy on when should the baby be considered as a ‘human’, but legal matters are irrelevant. You become a father or a mother at the instant of conception. The newly conceived one-celled baby is a conscious living separate person. If you see the aura of a pregnant woman, frankly I wish everyone learns to see auras it brings in a whole new perspective. Well, in the aura of a pregnant woman you can clearly see 2 different energies, right from the start. The soul who is the baby starts moving within the mother’s energy bodies right from the instant of conception. The baby knows and is aware of his gestation and is completely aware during its eventual birth. It is a very difficult and traumatic process, building your body in the the womb and getting born. But the baby has chosen his path and is willing to endure and is waiting for his entry into the world/Martyalok, again.

In fact, in Sanatan Dharm (Hinduism), after getting married, there is a whole Sanskar (‘conception ritual’), Garbha-dharan sanskar where the new husband/wife are fortified with mantras and pujas so that they can conceive a healthy happy baby and their bodies are also prepared for it on an energy level. Again, if you can sense energies, you can see the spirit body of the new baby-to-come waiting around the parents-to-be even before they conceive. Now, I have seen this happen too, the parents-to-be make the baby-to-be wait for so long, apparently they want to enjoy each other’s company or career concerns or ‘family planning’ in a big way, that the soul eventually gets tired and moves away. In this case the couple will find it difficult to have a child in the future unless there are benefic planets covering them. One bit of advise here, if you have fiery rashis, fiery planets aspecting the 5th house, or Rahu/ Ketu/ Saturn involved here do not wait, try to conceive as early as possible after marriage.https://psychologicallyastrology.comSo back to intentional abortion, the baby-soul is conscious and aware of what is happening to his mother and his fetus-body. This baby-soul’s energy is now residing inside the aura of the mother, and is aware of her everything, literally everything. You can hide your emotions from your face, but nothing can be hidden from the aura. Even if you lie the color of the aura changes. So nothing about the mother is hidden from the baby-soul. This is the reason we ask expecting mothers to listen to uplifting music, meditate, think happy thoughts etc. During this period of pregnancy 2 more Sanskar rituals, Pumsvan and Seemantonayan, are done to fortify the energy body of the baby-soul and the mother. See, out of the 16 Sanskars for a Hindu in his/her lifetime, 3 are connected with pregnancy. It is because this a highly vulnerable period for both and also both are highly receptive to energy. So we surround them with positive energies.

Now if the healthy mother decides to abort the healthy fetus for whatever reason, the trauma to both is immense.

First about the baby-soul. The baby-soul suffers the trauma of having the body removed from the mother and its death. This is breach of trust and against the Rule of the Conscience/Dharma. This spirit-body of the baby-soul is his higher-self, as he has not yet bound himself by the horoscope of birth, so is capable of much more. He is not yet limited by being tied in a human body. And technically its body has died. It has become a pretatma/ancestral spirit belonging to the family. So it releases its trauma, betrayal, sorrow and pain as a curse, it curses with intention, it curses the mother, father and the family. And in such an emotionally charged environment the curse takes root. This is seen in the horoscopes of later generations as a ‘dosh’ which denies children, denies male children, causes miscarriage, causes early deaths in children born alive, handicapped children, retarded children etc, eg ‘pitru dosh’, kaal-sarpa dosh’ and the like. This can cause the end of this family line. If  children denied it is end of the family.

Now for the mother. She has breached trust, broken the Rule of the Conscience/Dharma and insulted the creative aspect of her divine nature. She suffers enormous backlash which manifests as denial of children, or children related problems in the present life or in the future lives. The father and other family members if responsible for the abortion are also not spared in this. Nor is the doctor or other medical personnel who were involved in this act.https://psychologicallyastrology.comThe snake is the representative of the ancestral spirits and karma both. So when your astrologer tells you that your misfortunes are because your ancestors killed a snake, it can be an actual snake or a child/fetus. And if as an astrologer, if you come across a client/family who has the following problems,

  1. repeated dreams of snakes
  2. a history of failure in child bearing etc in the family
  3. no male progeny, or less than average number of boys, throughout the family
  4. 9th house affected by Rahu/Ketu in several members of the family
  5. A recurring planetary combination like kaal sarpa, sarpa dosh, pitru dosh etc in the family members

There is only one solution, the oldest male in the family has to go to Brahmakapal, Badrinath, Uttarakhand, India, and offer funeral rituals / Tarpan for all the dead ancestors.

So before taking such a drastic decision of intentional abortion, do give a thought about what the consequences can be. Your higher inner self, conscience, is always judging your action and the Rule of Conscience/Dharma prevails.

Rahu, the ‘other’, an insight into the trickster

Rahu/North Node and Ketu/South Node are the two nodes of the moon, astronomically points, where the orbit of the moon around the earth cuts the ecliptic. These two nodes are 180degrees apart always and are tremendously important in your chart as they represent the influence of the Earth on you. They, in short, represent your karmic balance and your movement on the road to spirituality. As per our Sanatan Dharm there is always a push and pull between attraction and detachment. Rahu represents the attachments and Ketu the detachments to this world of illusions, the domain of Mahamaya. These two can drown you in the sea of illusions or raise you above to realise your true nature. To read more on Ketu the real Mokshkaraka please click this link. Ketu is also your movement towards the Parameshwar. As per the story these two forces/graha were one entity but separated by the power of Vishnu and now exist as two points of power. Rahu is the head existing without the body and Ketu is the headless body.

Lets discuss Rahu in very simple terms today. Remember always Rahu is just a head, he has no body to carry out whatever he has thought out. He will plot but cannot work for it as he has no hands, no feet no body. He is a mass of all desires, planning and plotting and ways to subvert the system to gain what he is attracted to. A Rahu personality is often between two groups, pretending to be a part of both, when in fact he belongs to neither. Such persons can actually train their these Rahu abilities to be good diplomats, spies and double agents.

Rahu is the master of deceptions, ‘Chhalakarak’, the trickster, maybe a sort of a Loki! In a horoscope he is the agent of ambition. He wants everything, irrespective of entitlement. Example. A Mars will work for it, he will learn the skills, train and then compete with crushing force to win. But a Rahu will wriggle his way through, takes big risks, by hook or crook, he will want to win without working for it. He manages to impress with his skills, sinuous like a snake, he is mesmerising. But in the end, at the point where he seems to achieve his desire, he over-reaches, his deception is uncovered and he spectacularly falls. He desires the ‘process of desire’ not the ‘object of desire’ itself. He is never satisfied.

Rahu’s favourite ambition is social privileges which are available to a social class higher than the one he lives in. And he will do anything to get them. And Saturn is the one planet which can restrict Rahu’s ambitions, and cause his downfall, because Saturn is the strict one who follows the rules and punishes the one who transgresses. Saturn is also the force who regulates the masses, the public and enforces the social structure. He does not like a socially disruptive Rahu in his domain, thus unmasks him.

But Rahu never surrenders, he strives again and fails again and thus the cycle repeats again and again. He represents ambitions not satisfactions. Thus by his very nature he cannot have what he so ardently desires. Identify this pattern in your life. There are 12 houses and Rahu will be placed in one of these 12, so look up the keywords of the houses and keep tabs on your Rahu’s activity. Rahu is always a ‘pretender’, all these keywords are his superficial ambitions, but he himself is not aware of them being superficial. Even if he gains them he will not experience fulfilment.

  1. Rahu in Aries  – This Rahu desires being dominant, being competitive, he wants to push forward, be the first, desires conquest, wants to be a hero in the eyes of the society.
  2. Rahu in Taurus –  In Taurus Rahu desires the act of exploration and hoarding, he wants to collect treasures, may desire working in museums, treasuries and storehouses. he desires money and thus the banking sector. He wants the society to recognize him as a collector and preserver of family/society assets.
  3. Rahu in Gemini – Here Rahu craves conversations and connections. He shows off by talking about messages received from higher authority, feels privileged being a messenger for the elite. He desires being with brothers, siblings and neighbours.

  5. Rahu in Leo wants attention. He is superficially a dramatic personality and desires center stage and all forms of creativity. He is capable of creative expression but will always lack in depth. He is especially attracted to his own children, as children are the ultimate expression of the creative force. He often gets trapped in risky speculation. He also desires education, may have a lot of degrees but his knowledge will again be superficial.
  6. Rahu in Virgo desires being of service, he wants to society to recognize him as a martyr to a cause. He will be attracted to crime, addictions, arguments, illnesses, anxieties, and being a victim always fascinates him.
  7. Rahu in Libra wants to show off his ability at diplomacy, negotiations, deals, agreements. He will superficially strive for balance and fairness, internally as always he is his own man.

  10. Rahu in Capricorn is crazy for social status and a high rank in social hierarchy. He is desires privacy in his personal life but at the same time wants to be a social elite, wants money and position. He wants to make rules and is conscious of social prestige.
  11. Rahu in Aquarius desires the markets, the hustle-bustle, the network of people and their interconnections. Strangers and new persons are his domain. He wants to be with the community. He desires social recognition because of his participation in the social activities.
  12. Rahu in Pisces desires the subconscious, the dream-states. He desires guidance from ancestral spirits and intuition. He is fascinated by the spiritual and meditation and contemplation.

Whenever you see your chart the next time, look at the positions of Rahu/Ketu, the houses they occupy, their influences on the other planets either conjunct or opposite. You will get an idea of the spiritual basis of your life. What deeply attracts you and what you are indifferent to. These two forces are the deepest instincts that you have, and they are so deeply buried that they influence everything you do. Understand them and learn more about your own self, your ambitions and your apathies.

Addictions an astrological and spiritual perspective

Recently I was doing Reiki initiation for a client and in the middle of it her phone buzzed. I almost froze with the shock! I had told her to switch it off and keep it in her purse, but she had put it on silent mode. So here I was with her open aura, putting reiki symbols inside her brain and that inferal buzzing in the background! Her Reiki initiation became a test for my concentration (facepalm!). We are all so addicted to our phones, it is distracting us from our true purpose in life. We have limited our lives to likes and forwards!adult beautiful cute dressSo, what is it that you are searching for? At the root of it, you are searching for Happiness. And strangely enough you find it! You find happiness in a cute forward, new dress, a car, the house you live in, in your lover, the parents, reading a book and so on. But the nature of this happiness is just temporary, it lasts while it lasts. And you are addicted to finding happiness. And that thing which gives you this joy, you repeat it again and again till either you get bored or you are sure that the ecstasy is now permanent. If you get bored you will repeat this behaviour with some other object of desire and repeat this cycle all over again. Or if aspects exist, this behaviour can then also lead to depression or psychiatric issues.

But for the extremely few, if you have achieved permanent ecstasy, you have attained Nirvana and will not be attracted to any other object of desire ever again. This state of Bliss is the object of life as per Sanatan Dharm (hinduism). Moksh!

Back to astrology now, for some, this search for happiness goes wrong and then they indulge in habits and substances which cause irreparable physical, mental and spiritual harm. There are astrological combinations which can predict such self destructive tendencies. Check out the following when you are faced with such addictive behaviour. Mental instability is also an addiction. As always look at the strength of the house-sign, the placement of the owner planet of the house-sign, the planets placed in the house and also aspecting it. Also look out for the position of Mercury as he represents the thinking process. The malefic and benefic influences, if any debilitated, retrograde, combust planet is involved etc. eg. a well placed Jupiter can limit the harm to a great degree, and even a Saturn with his strict, restrictive influence can limit amoral behaviour.

The sixth house from the ascendant – this is the house of disease, debts, arguments, enemies. Your tendency to take drugs and substances is determined here. Addictions ultimately lead to debt, disease and shame, the realm of the 6th. Also check out the status of the virgo sign in your birth horoscope, and the aspects on it. Especially Rahu, Ketu linked with Venus or Moon and this house.

The sixth house from the birth moon – this is the house which determines your emotional need and response to exploitative self medication – addiction. Any behaviour can become a habit which gives short term ecstasy which can later turn to emotional exploitation. If you find satisfaction in heroin you will take it again and again ultimately leading to disaster. This is the domain of the mind, the birth moon, look out if Rahu, Ketu and Venus influence it or the moon itself (eg if cancer sign is placed here).

Venus and the sixth house from Venus – this is the house which actually determines if there is scope for addictive behaviour. If there are malefic influences there will be greater scope for dangerous addictions.

Venus, the teacher of the esoteric, is also your taste for passion and your take on morality. Venus, or Daityaguru Shukracharya is the agent for indulgence and passion. Venus is also the smartest karmic teacher, he is the one with the highest esoteric knowledge but when you go to him, he gives you distractions, beauty, relationships, sex, wine, addictions. If you get caught in them, you fail his test and he withholds his valuable deep wisdom. Venus if influenced by the nodes Rahu or Ketu is a potentially amoral combination. Rahu/north node, amplifies desires and Ketu/south node, dissolves boundaries. These two can cause havoc with your moral compass as predatory and amoral influences become powerful. Your vital energies are lost and and you allow your indulgent addictive pleasure-seeking behaviour to dominate.man standing beside black wallSo what can be done? If you have such tendencies in your chart, divert them to something useful and less dangerous before they erupt on their own and explode into addictions. Do not dam it up. Addict yourself to something constructive or spiritual or some activity for the benefit of the society. Get your high from being useful and productive. Develop a hobby. Create something, learn a new skill, feel happy from the inside. Spend some time with yourself or with the Great Mother, nature. Go for walks in the sea-shore, forests or parks. There are so many ways to divert energy. Try them and see what resonates with you.

All said and done, the mind is so susceptible to pressures and influences that it easily leads us astray. But also remember this, You are the Consciousness and the mind is like a tool in your hands, train your mind, exert your Will. It is just like keeping a pet dog, if you train it well it will be an asset but if not trained then is an embarrassment and a liability. To train your mind, do some small 5-min a day spiritual exercises which will keep your Conscious Will in control. I have written a lot about such exercises in my several past posts. Check them out if you are drawn to something.adult backpacker blur cameraAnd finally, we are all in search of permanent happiness, a happiness which will not be changed by comparisons, time and emotions. A happiness which is from within your own self and not dependant on anything outside your own self.
