The Rahu Ketu axis

Most astrologers call Rahu /Ketu as ‘imaginary planets’, or ‘mathematical points’, which is doing them a great injustice. You can never understand your chart if you do not analyse Rahu /Ketu. In Jyotish the correct term is ‘graha’ .(Graha means, force, giving, holding, seizing, seizer, holder, giver, taker, etc).

You live your life on several levels. How do you look like? The human body which you see in the mirror is not even 1% of how you really look. And we are obsessed about the physical body that we see. (Sometimes I see beautifully made-up and dressed up people, expensive clothes and accessories with such filthy auras and energies, can’t bear sitting next to them. We Indians have this habit of doing namsakar when we meet others, that way we don’t need to touch them.)

Your energy, your naadi network, your chakras, even each organ looks different, the aura, your higher, sub-conscious and astral selves, everything, is so much much more. You live and work for a very tiny part of your life in the physically perceived universe and significantly more in the astrally perceived realmsSo every graha has its other astral/ indescribable components. Rahu and Ketu are completely ‘other’ graha, they do not have any part of themselves visible in the conscious/subconscious dimensions. They exist at levels much more deeper than that.rahu 1All of us live out our lives in the occult dimensions as well as the physical realm. There is nothing called as a ‘past’, ‘present’, ‘future’, ‘parallel’ life. Everything is occurring in this single moment simultaneously. All of us are aware of our this multi-dimensional self, all of us. But it is so staggering that most of us shut it out, perhaps for fear that our minds will crack or that we need to resolve a few karma. Some of us keep all this open, how ‘open‘ depends on the planetary positions and the chart as a whole. If your karmic balance is more to do with these dimensions, your perceptions will be more ‘open’.

Some use sun-signs, some moon-signs, some focus on the ascendant lord but it is illogical to say which one graha is more important than the other. This ‘importance’ depends on the question that one seeks to answer. Most modern astrologers do not find Rahu/Ketu to be important and relegate them to the shadows. This is the result of our times, we are more interested in shallow materialistic things and refuse to appreciate the subtlety of our existence (nothing wrong about it, each one has his own priorities).

But on the deeper levels, the Rahu/Ketu axis is what drives you, all your aspirations, desires, ambitions are Rahu, the karmic ties which you still have to unwind. And all those detachments, apathies, disinterests are Ketu, you have saturated yourself with these objects so are now completely indifferent to them. In very simple language they represent the effect of the Earth (Bhu the first vhyarhuti) on your soul. The reason you manifest on the Earth is Rahu/Ketu.

You are the Ultimate, so what are you doing on the lowest energy level/Bhu? The answer is Rahu/Ketu. The energies of the entire chart are channelised by the Rahu/Ketu axis. You have a train full of valuables, and its engine is Rahu! It is very important to have support from the all the planets in the chart, e.g. ascendant lord – overall ‘fitting in’, Moon -stability, Sun -self-confidence, Mercury -thinking, Mars-fearlessness, Saturn-pragmatic work, Venus-esoteric knowledge, Jupiter-conventional knowledge, etc to navigate the realms of Rahu/Ketu.

Rahu/Ketu mature very late in life at 48yrs years of age, so by then you have more or less finished your material duties and can now start on your spiritual agenda. They make you work at the deepest levels beyond the conscious and the sub-conscious both.

Energy-wise Rahu is more airy/Vata and Ketu more fiery/Pitta. Both are considered to be the enemies of the luminaries, Sun and Moon. Now Sun represents your consciousness/jivatma/soul/ego also your Pingala nadi and Moon represents you at the subconscious/emotional/astral levels and your Ida nadi. Rahu/Ketu thus have the ability to occult the You in several dimensions. And from the energy point of view only when Ida and Pingala are occulted i.e. shut, can pran flow through the central Sushumna nadi complex. So now can you appreciate the vital importance of Rahu/Ketu! When Rahu/Ketu occult the Sun/Moon, wonder what shows through? Energy cannot be destroyed only transmuted. When the lenses of Rahu/Ketu eclipse the oh-so-shiny luminaries, wonder what they allow us a glimpse of?

These are considered to be Serpents. Serpents actually mean karmic bindings. If you have read this post, kundalini is also considered to be a serpent as it binds. To free yourself from the limited sense of self-identification as Priya, Amit and Manish you have to break free of the kundalini and Rahu/Ketu energy too. Serpents guard treasure, here the /Rahu-Ketu Serpents guard your karmic balance. What binds you is also what makes you free. If Rahu/Ketu have bound you, then they have the capacity to set you free too. If Devi Mahamaya has bound you through her Serpent-Kundalini then She has the power to set you free too, thus spiritual aspirants do Devi mantra/yagnya etc aradhana and Ketu is considered to be the real moksh karak.

Rahu/Ketu are the equal and opposite counter-forces of attachment and apathy. These energies are used to churn the Mahameru within you. The story of Samudra Manthan has 54 dev and 54 danav churning the Meru in the Ksheer-Samudra. The rope used for churning is again the Serpent Vasuki. So many karmic events push and pull us constantly till the infinite Samudra gives up his treasure of immortality/self-knowledge. These karmic events on the deepest spiritual levels occurring in your life are linked to Rahu/Ketu placements, dashas and transits. If truly analysed, you can see that they are indeed pulling and pushing you towards your real self-identification.

This is the real use of Jyotish the science of illumination. Of course you can answer mundane questions like, ‘when will I get married’ or ‘when will I get a job’, you will get your answers. But sometimes do analyse your chart in the spiritual context to delve deeply into your real self.

Analysing the occult, the houses!

This is continued from the previous post here. Now about the houses, see how they connect with the occult. As usual check out the birth chart for the manifested reality of the occult phenomena, the navamsha for the astral and subconscious potential for the occult and the birth moon chart on how all this ‘other-ness’ affects the emotions and mental stability. Each house contributes to the ‘occult’ personality, but the main house is the 8th house.

Occult and the 8th are interlinked. You will need to analyse everything about this house, the planets placed in it and it’s ruler’s placement. Just a few combinations to get you thinking.

  • Any planet connected to the 8th has the capacity to grant occult senses. Pay attention to the planets placed/aspecting the 8th, which houses they rule and their nature.
  • The planetary owner of the 8th house of your chart, Mars the natural owner of the 8th house of the zodiac and the sign Scorpio the 8th natural sign, wherever they may be placed in the chart are linked to the occult. So analyse these forces too.
  • I have noticed Aries ascendant and Libra ascendant persons are often connected to the ‘occult’ in some way. I think this is because the owner of the ascendant sign and the 8th house sign is the same planet. The personality tends to accept such energy transformations more easily.
  • If the rulers of 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th are linked in some way, (conjoint/aspects) in any of these houses, you can expect a highly aware tantrik personality.
  • Mars if placed in the 8th house always indicates that high levels of astral forces are operating which will cause transformations through catastrophic changes. Similarly for Ketu in 8th house. If such persons refuse to take up their karmic burden in the right spirit, they will suffer accidents and other problems with the physical body. If they choose to serve out their karmic load, they will become exceptional tantrics, regularly working in the astral domain, changing internally
  • I have a client who as a child didn’t understand what he was seeing. It was scary so as a child he intended that he stop ‘seeing’, so he also started losing his normal vision also. A very high myopia and more eyesight problems as he grew older. Finally by the Devi’s blessings, he realised that he had karma which could not be avoided so started ‘seeing’ again, both his visions (normal and ‘other’) then stabilised with this acceptance.

occultNow the three houses of the Dharma trikon, determine the foundations of your life, your personality/environment, your creativity/divine intelligence and your philosophies/teachers.

The first house, the Ascendant lord is how compatible your personality is with your environment. e.g. The ruler of the 1st house if with Ketu, will 100% give association with spirits. How this association turns out positive/negative depends on other placements. Ascendant sign is overall you and your environment. If you have Ketu in your 1st house, you will be also be more susceptible to the evil eye/’nazar’. Spirits can access your personality and environment very easily.

The 5th house is where you channelise divine intelligence and express it as your own personal creativity. e.g. If Ketu is linked to the 5th or owner of the 5th, you will receive information, communications and ‘intelligence’ from the disembodied ones, the ghosts and the spirits. Or the owner of the 8th house if placed in the 5th. Or if the ascendant and Ketu in the 5th.

The 9th house can grant a Teacher, a real Guru (tantric/spiritual/philosophical etc) who can guide responsibly. If this house is strong, you will learn whatever is being taught with a broad mind. You will be less likely to cheat yourself by misusing the knowledge you have been given. You will also be more likely to have students yourself so that you can pass on the wisdom thus completing your karmic cycle. Knowledge is always free, but it has to be given with a sense of love and responsibility and received with gratitude and respect. If not then this knowledge will be the cause of new karmic bindings. This house provides this foundation.

Occult abilities sometimes run in some families, Ketu in 2nd house, 4th house or even 9th house is a good indicator of such families.

Now if your profession is going to be linked to the occult, i.e if you are going to be a practicing tantrik, there will be a connect of the 2nd, 6th and 10th houses with the planets linked to the 8th house or Ketu. There will be links to the family background/2nd, or a need to serve/6th or social status/salary/profession/10th.

The Kama trikon is the 3rd/your boldness, 7th/bargaining capacity and 11th/ability to gain. These houses if strong enough will reduce the impacts of practicing the occult on yourself. I think it is rather obvious, if you are bold enough, you have the ‘working’ intelligence, you can negotiate equitable sharing/balance and gain from all this you are going to come out a winner.

The 11th house is rather important as is the house of your extended contacts, acquaintances, all sources of all types of gains, like-minded groups, very large groups etc. So if you are working with spirits, gaining from the occult etc this house will be important. Like I know a chart with Ketu in the 11th/Rahu in 5th, Moon, Mars, Sun superbly placed, this person has occult abilities beyond description, earns a lot and gives it all anonymously to charity, is never scared of anything that he sees. But then time and transits always take their toll so had to suffer very severely (illness for the physical body) for all this too.

And finally the Moksh trikon, how is this dabbling in the occult going to change you. Will you successfully resolve your karma and use these abilities as a springboard for self development? Or will you be lured by the sheer power that is accessible to you and get caught in the trap of ego? The activities of the 8th house are the main driving force. Occult is the 8th. These actions will be manifested in the 12th house in the astral and the sub-conscious dimensions and will serve as your foundation or binding, these final aspects are be analysed from the 4th house.occultFor those who have an option of choosing between the ‘occult’ or ‘spiritual’ directions, it is advisable to choose the spiritual path. Working with your own energies is considered ‘spiritual’ and infinitely preferable compared to interacting with the energies of clients (being a tantrik). Most good Jyotishis also have a good understanding of the other energies. Interactions with the other dimensional beings is also quite risky (more tantric-ness). When you work with your self, you are sure, you can find your problems, you know the best solutions and you can resolve them completely. With clients and the others it can entangle.

When I was a child I could never understand all this, later as I grew up with my chart and planets maturing, I realised that there was no other option, I ‘saw’. Now I cannot ‘un-see’, all the places I go to, all the people I interact with, the food I eat, the sounds I hear, everything has more dimensions and thus affects me on the other dimensions too. I have to be alert, even when I sleep. The only source of energy is my spiritual practice, the Devi and her mantras. I love my Devi Kali. Whatever I do, I do it because of Her, or rather She does it through me. I leave everything in Her hands.

Analysing occult from the chart.

Now the other part of the question from this previous post, “inclinations to the metaphysical and the occult”!

I would never advise anyone to consciously choose the occult path. Even with an experienced teacher there are just too many problems. Energy is energy and its use binds you. I have written about these in my past posts. I personally and my clients have faced too many issues arising from the spirit worlds. But if, by karma, you are required to do it then I would suggest that you start Devi puja first. The best way is to use the Devi Mahatmya, the siddhakunjika and the navavarna mantra. Unless you fortify your energies and seek the protection of the Devi you cannot and should not dabble in the occult. You might think why waste 2 years on a mantra but it is the only strength you will have in this line of work. This is a serious warning, heed it.

Astrologically there are a few combinations which indicate involvement with the occult. As always you have to look for patterns in planetary positions. Single placements cannot be used to predict, always patterns, the chart as a whole will be involved. If you analyse your birth chart you will get the manifested context, from the D-9 Navamsha chart you will get the potential and the subconscious tendencies of the person and from the birth moon chart you will get the emotional context. The charts talk about your energies and possibilities, it is your conscious thought process which gives the final direction. You can be a healer or the sufferer, the energy is the same, just its direction is different. You can channelise the energies you have been given, the choice always remains in your hands. You do not need brute force for this, just a slight change in thought processes will result in change.occultNow here are just a few combinations to get you thinking, first the planets and then how the houses contribute to a personality involved in the occult.

Ketu and his role in your chart, the most important indicator, analyse everything about him in the chart. Where is he placed, with whom, where is the owner of his house placed etc. Ketu is detached, unwanted things, ghosts, spirits and disembodied energies. If he gets his ‘head’/direction from a malefic planet he can manifest these energies in the house (and to some extent the sign too) he is placed in. E.g. Ketu in the 5th is going to link your creativity with the astral beings, either you serve others in their troubles with the ghosts or suffer yourself!

Ketu owns the three Nakshatra, Ashwini, Magha and Moola, so if your ascendant degree or birth Moon lies in these there is a good chance that you will be familiar with the occult side of life. (These persons desire companionship with distant, unknown, disinterested, unattainable, unrequited type of unions, often partners from different worlds!)

Rahu is the counter part of Ketu. Both these forces are responsible for your life on this earth. They represent the summary of your karmic balance at the present moment. They are astral forces not ‘imaginary planets’. So Rahu is the force which attracts you to things/ objects of desire. Some typical placements are, Rahu connected to the 8th house, or ruler of the 8th house or Rahu with the moon or ascendant lord. Rahu grants that sort of ‘fools rush in where angels fear to tread’-type of fearlessness. He is so fixated on his object of desire that he disregards everything else. A Rahu personality should always try and use his intelligence and curb his headlong rush before he falls flat on his face, only then will he be extraordinarily successful in life.occultNow the Moon, this represents your mental strength and comfort. If the Moon is strong, you can easily work with spirits. A badly placed Moon will make you susceptible e.g. Moon with Saturn will scare you. However Moon in Scorpio though debilitated can grant high levels of psychic ability. Moon with Rahu/Ketu, is very easy access to the astral worlds.

Ascendant lord is the most important planet in your chart. He tells you how you and your environment interact. If he is well-placed you are more well-adjusted to your surroundings and more confident because of this. If this planet is placed with Rahu/Ketu you are going to have interactions with the astral/occult forces. It might take some time for you to understand what is happening (Rahu/Ketu mature at 48yrs of age) and thus it is possible that you will suffer damage before this period.

Venus and Jupiter are the forces of knowledge and wisdom. If these are well placed in your chart you will have the necessary knowledge, both esoteric and ritualistic to deal with any situation. If these are conjoint or aspecting Rahu or Ketu, they grant occult knowledge and after their maturity, also the necessary strength and sense to navigate the astral waters without much damage to yourself. But just remember if they are conjunct with Rahu/Ketu they also will mature late at the age of 48yrs, till then you will not be able to come to terms with your occult/spiritual leanings.

Mercury will contribute here by providing the databases and the intellectual analytic power. You might know the theory of everything (provided by Venus and Jupiter), but Mercury will give you the ‘working intelligence’ to use this wisdom. To convert the esoteric principles into working practices is the domain of Mercury.

Sun as usual provides a sense of self-ego. If he is well placed he will help by granting the necessary confidence and fearlessness. But if badly placed will add to to karmic burdens are you will perform your actions with an exaggerated sense of ‘I am doing this’.

A well placed Mars is important too. He is the natural ruler of the 8th house of the zodiac, Scorpio, the house of mysteries, so if well placed can grant the strength to explore these depths. And these depths are often scary and you have to traverse them alone. Mars being the pioneer and the ‘first’, is not afraid to enter the unknown and uncharted realms of the occult. Malefics give problems but also grant the energy to fight the problems. Remove a thorn with a thorn!

Finally Saturn, he has a restrictive role in most cases, but ultimately he is the natural owner of the 10th and the 11th houses of the zodiac so linked to your profession, social status, your name and fame, the work you will be performing in the society, your interactions with large impersonal like-minded groups, your gains and profits, your salary etc. If you are to gain all these things through the ‘occult’, then you might want to give your Saturn a quick once-over. Also if he can do good by restricting the activities of ghostly energies in your life if placed in a position where he can restrict Ketu.occultJyotish, in my opinion, cannot be taught by rote, you cannot just memorise combinations, you also need to get a ‘feel’ of the patterns and combinations. You are a Doctor, you cannot diagnose 100% based on textbook knowledge. Your intuition and experience also operate.

You might think now, just for checking just the occult tendencies why read the entire chart?  You go to the grocers only when you need to go shopping. Occult is not like that. When you start interacting with these energies you change for ever. Once ‘seen’, it cannot be ‘unseen‘. It will always remain at the edge of your conscious awareness. So again, get into this only if you feel that you are karmically required to and there is no other option. And if you have to get into this, first do your Devi mantras and keep on doing them.

(Will continue this in my next post on houses involved in occult tendencies and another one on Rahu/Ketu and the Gandant Nakshatra gap.)

To decipher Multiple Spouses!

It is quite common to see people indulging in multiple marriages. A sequence of marriage, divorce, remarriage or multiple spouses together at the same time. Thus more complicated for the astrologer to interpret marriage-related questions. A person will have a series of girlfriends/boyfriends, then marriage, perhaps extra-marital affairs, then divorces and re-marriages! Thus we need to look into the horoscope with more care. So lets check out this complicated question of multiple spouses!pexels-photo-1454987.jpegFirst a bit on what is marriage! Marriage is karmic the domain of the 7th house, legal partnerships negotiated by Venus. Romance is more self-centric, the domain of the Sun, girlfriend/boyfriend is seen from the 5th house. For a relationship to be considered to be a marraige, there needs to be a legal alliance, a contract, an understanding, before a witness. This can be a traditional marriage, or a marriage in court, or (this is stretching it) if a child is born or even conceived/aborted without a formal marriage, this child is considered as the witness to the marriage.

You can also calculate the number of marriages through palmistry. See the edge of the palm of the dominant hand, right under the little finger/Kanishta, the space between the heart line and the base of the finger. Count the number of well defined horizontal lines, that is the number of spouses indicated in this life for you.

For marriage, the first and foremost planet to analyse is Venus – He is the natural ruler of the 7th house of the zodiac, Libra. Wherever he may be located, Venus will have an influence on the marriage alliance. Generally Venus is considered to be the agent of ‘Wife’, but I have seen Venus indicating the ‘Husband’ too, thus I consider him to indicate ‘Spouse’ in general.

  • If the Venus is within 15 degrees of any other grahas including Rahu/Ketu then he may grant multiple spouses. If Venus is with Rahu the spouse will be ambitious, interested in social mobility and breaking the rules! Moon with Venus will give an emotional, sensitive, maternal type of partner. A Venus alone will give a more balanced partner.
  • If Jupiter is with Venus, then multiple spouses are almost certain, you might see a rich man having 3-4 wives, each wife in her own house and established properly.
  • Even the headless graha Ketu with Venus can grant multiple partners, the narrative will be widowhood/abandonment/divorce/separation thus the new spouses.
  • Then Venus with any other graha, especially in the 5th house will give multiple spouses.
  • In the 9th divisional chart/Navamsha, check out the placement of Venus, if alone or with multiple planets. This indicates the sub-conscious expectation of marriage and the spouses.

Now a look at Jupiter. The planet of expansion is deeply connected to marriages and your spouses. He  is taken to represent just ‘husband’, but I have seen him indicate ‘wife’ too so I consider him as an agent of ‘spouse’.

  • Jupiter if occupying the 7th from ascendant or even the 7th from birth moon sign causes expansion of the marriage event giving multiple spouses. Again the character of the partner can be judged as per the nature of the planet accompanying Jupiter.
  • Jupiter if conjunct with the owner of the house 7th from ascendant or 7th from birth moon will grant multiple spouses.
  • Jupiter in the 7th house in the Navamsha chart indicates the potential for multiple marriages, but the D-1 must support in some way for it to be actually manifested.

arrangement beautiful beauty bloomingThe houses which indicate the next marriage partner is always counted 8 houses from the house indicating the current marriage partner. This is how it works,

  • 7th house indicates first spouse
  • 2nd house represents the second spouse
  • 9th house represents the third spouse
  • 4th house represents the fourth spouse

If you count these houses from the ascendant sign in your birth chart D-1 you will get the physical reality, the environment and the circumstance of the marriage partner. The physical attributes, looks, family situation etc.

If you count these houses from the birth moon sign you will get the emotional context of every spouse. Will the marriage event be emotionally fulfilling, secure, comfortable and stable. The reality of the intimacy between the two. And the perception regarding the success or otherwise of the marriage contract. This is an important analysis as sometimes you see marriages doing well on the physical front but collapsing on the emotional fronts. Or you may see a physically abusive marriage continuing well because despite the physical abuse the chart offers emotional stability!

Then finally if you count these houses in the Navamsha/D-9 chart you will understand the expectations and the sub-conscious reasons behind every spouse. D-9 is the total astral experience, this may or may not be fully manifested in the real material world represented by the D-1 depending on several trigger factors. Eg, if the D-9 shows possibility of a second spouse but the person and his first spouse do astrological remedies or engage in mantra jaap or even good karmas together the sub-conscious possibility of the second spouse may not materialise in the real life.

The 7th house is what mirrors you in every aspect so the first spouse is the most important in this way. This is the house of balance, alliance and legal partnerships. But if the karma of this house gets completed by death/divorce/abandonment etc. then the 2nd house gets active. The second spouse is more likely to be someone strongly connected to his/her family lineage, interested in interacting with family/friends, food/drink and wealth. The typical 2nd house keywords! Or you might meet this person in such a setting of song and dance. In case this karma of second spouse also gets completed within this lifetime then you get to the third spouse. This is more likely to be a more philosophical personality, more mature, more into public and visible roles in the society etc, apply the keywords of the 9th house to decipher this personality. And so on, counting the next 8th house to get the nature of the next spouse.

These second onwards spouses take on the traits of the 2nd, 9th, 4th and onwards houses, thus mirror your family, paternal figures, maternal figures etc check out the keywords of these houses. Thus afford another chance for you to revisit this house (now in this very intimate relationship) and resolve the karmas related to it quite beautifully.pexels-photo-931155.jpegNow you know the house you need to see for checking out the spouse, first spouse is 7th house, second spouse is 2nd house and so on. The next factor that you need to see is the owner of the house, where is he placed in relation to the house and if he is comfortable or not. And also the planets placed in the house. These will add more details to your analysis. For example a Ketu in the 7th will give a disinterested partner who may abandon you, then a Mars in 2nd will give a more athletic out-going and passionate partner number two.

But remember, the ‘partnership’ is not just limited to a human actual person. This may be a concept or a way of life or a philosophy or a Deity. Each one of us has a significant partner, our mirror.

So this may also interpreted as, after the completion of the 1st marriage, the person may immerse himself in his own family affairs or spend his time with family/friends, or in making more money! May not remarry and consider this lifestyle to be his significant partnership. Or after the completion of his second marriage karma with his second spouse, turn to religion, philosophy and the divine! He may start a new thought process of helping the human race, get into social service and consider this to be his significant partnership.

To interpret anything to do with marriage, considerable delicacy and understanding of the social norms and culture is necessary. If additional ‘marriages’ are indicated they will happen. If the society approves of divorce/remarriage, or having multiple husbands/wives then these additional spouses will be legitimately in the open. However if the society does not allow (check position of Saturn to see this aspect of the marriage/spouse event), the additional spouses will happen but in secret and will be denied in the public life.

Ultimately we choose our partners based on our sub-conscious expectations. If you are scared of marriage, expect a similarly afraid partner. If you are desperate to get a spouse, expect a similarly frustrated person as your spouse. However if you are content and a balanced personality you will marry a similar happy person and make the most of your married life!

The 27 Lunar Mansions, Nakshatra

A 13deg 20sec division of the zodiac is called a Lunar Mansion or a Nakshatra. As per the stories, Daksha Prajapati had 27 daughters/Nakshatra whom he married off to Chandra/Moon. The Moon takes about 1 day to cross one Nakshatra. snow person girl winterThe Nakshatras are extremely important markers in astrology and some of the ways they are used are as follows.

  1. Each nakshatra has 4 parts/pada and thus there are 108 Nakshatra-pada in the Zodiac. 108 is the Vedic ‘magic’ number. Mantras are chanted 108 times generate high energy which is then channelised to your intention.
  2. Our names are as per the Swar Siddhanta. Each nakshatra-pada has a sound allocated to it. We name our children as per the syllables/Akshara associated with the Moon Nakshatra pada he/she was born in. Though some may use the sound syllable associated with Ascendant or the Sun nakshatra-padas. The tables are widely available on-line.
  3. Matching of bride/groom charts for marriage is primarily done by matching the birth Moon Nakshatra-pada. It is an amazingly accurate system and actually works beautifully. The tables are also quite widely available.
  4. Each Nakshatra has a planetary Lord. The sequence of the planetary owners is Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury which repeats three times, thus each planet owns 3 Nakshatras. The Nakshatra lords of the Moon Nakshatra and the ascendant Nakshatra play important roles in your life.
  5. Each Nakshatra also has an associated Nakshatra Devata. These devatas are correspondingly 27 in number and have a very subtle but deep effect on every aspect of your psychology and spiritual life. In fact if you can remember your Moon’s and Ascendant’s Nakshatra Devatas during your daily puja, it will be quite beneficial.
  6. Our human life-time is calculated as 120 years. These 120 yrs are divided into several parts/Mahadasha, and sub-parts, Antardasha, Pratyantardasha and even tinier units of time, till every second of your life can be mapped. These units of time are owned by the planets. These dashas are used to time events. The birth Moon Nakshatra planetary owner decides start of the Dasha count.
  7. Nakshatras change daily and are one of the 5 parameters in deciding an auspicious time/muhurta, for marriage, buying a house, car, entering a house, starting a business etc (the other 4 are the day, karan, yog and tithi).
  8. Finally the name of the Nakshatra is a mantra in itself. Saying aloud the name of the Nakshatra of the day increases health. (There is a Shani Mahakaal Mryutyunjai stotram a quite powerful stotra where using the nyas mantras, we place the energy of the Nakshtras, yogas, karanas, days, months, planets, rashis, years and all the units of time in various body parts of the body. I utterly love Shani so have done this several times just for his happiness.)

pexels-photo-207762.jpegHow do you find out your ascendant’s and Moon’s Nakshatras? In any Vedic/Indian horoscope it will be clearly marked out and modern software also clearly mention them. So do check these out.

In Vedic astrology, a complete reading of the chart will consider the birth Moon’s nakshatra. We consider the Moon to be paramount as he controls the mind, emotions and perceptions. Whatever happens to us is perceived and experienced through the Moon, the emotional filter of life. The Moon works through the 27 Nakshatra ‘filters’, these are not rational or logical, but intuitive, psychological and subtle. These are the linkages of your past lives and the framework of your present life. The life choices that you make in this life are linked to your birth Moon Nakshatra and to some extent to your birth Ascendant Nakshatra. If you live a more materialistic life with no spiritual back-up, you will not be aware of these signals. You might feel a general guidance but you will not be able to actively interact with your Nakshatra energies. Thus for an average human the Nakshatras will fix the your fate. But if you tend to be spiritually inclined and have a sense of the grander purpose of your life, you can actively use the energies of your Nakshatras, their lords and devatas.adorable beautiful child cuteIf you observe yourself carefully you can reduce all your life’s activities to one or two action words. These action words are a reflection of your Nakshatra energies. The Moon rules the enormity of the astral, the sub-conscious, so it makes sense to divide his humongous domain into the 27 sub-domains of the Nakshatras. I have tried to reduce the natures of these 27 into small keywords which perhaps maybe will be useful. These describe the innermost tendencies and desires. Often your client will not even be aware of them but they will rule his life and influence his every action.

There is one more Nakshatra, ‘Abhijit’, this is a masculine nakshatra, ruled by Brahma the Creator himself and reflects the creative principle of Divinity. This is not used for general astrological analysis but in special calculations e.g. in drawing the ashtapadmadala chakra. When it is used, it is inserted at serial number 22, with each the following nakshatra shifting one serial number ahead to give a total of 28 nakshatras.

Abhijit rules over the 28 minutes before and after midday and also 28 minutes before and after midnight. This is called the Abhijit muhurta and is considered quite auspicious.

pexels-photo-265959.jpegFor example Chitra, the shining jewel of the zodiac, owned by Mars. Such a person will internally want to compete with and outshine others. His devata is Vishwakarma/Tvashtra, the celestial architect, he will want to build, create works of beauty, it may be expressed as a book, or a building or the systematic arrangement of his room. But the beauty will have a purpose, power and danger too. He will be continually rearranging his mental and emotional processes till he is satisfied by its beauty and power. He is wedded to his work. This nakshatra is most likely to remain unmarried or if married not too involved with his spouse (preferring a silent submissive spouse in fact!). He finds his fulfilment when he creates beauty coupled with power.

Another example Uttara Bhadrapada: Ruled by the serpent of the deep unconscious, Ahirbudhnya Ouroboros. The Saturn has an agenda of structured work in the astral realms. The native knows a lot, but in the astral, of the astral. He consumes his manifested vitality and lives it out in the sub-conscious states. These individuals seem hazy, spaced out, but in the astral they are kings. They have the capacity to do anything in the astral. Beware of making enemies of these seemingly ‘drugged’ individuals, they wont even know what they can do to retaliate in return. One client had after the death of his enemy, tracked his soul on his way to the Pitrulok and trapped him in a bubble, so that he could never reach there, nor take another birth, presumably still trapped there. (Guided meditaion sometimes gives such stranger than fiction pasts!)

It is beyond my scope to write in detail on each individual nakshatra in this limited blog post, however will try to in my future posts. Just this tiny post to remind that Nakshatras are very important and in Vedic system you have to consider 2 nakshatras, the birth moon’s nakshatra and the rising ascendant nakshatra, else your analysis is incomplete.

Remembering Past Lives

It is rather easy to remember past lives. Small children can do it very easily, but as we grow up the present life’s impressions become stronger thus remembering the past life more difficult. But there are several means of doing this, most commonly past life regression trances, or guided meditations, or Dhyan-mediations.

magnolia-trees-springtime-blossoms-spring-38910.jpegOur past lives are always accessible and if you really need some information from there you can pull it out. In fact, your sub-conscious will make it available to you. If you have some spiritual background it will be easier to do so. Even normal people with little or no spiritual base find themselves doing things because their intuition tells them the way. Intuition is nothing but the accumulated experiences of all your past lives. It is the real you, and it is always available as a ‘gut feeling’! Sometimes you like someone for no real reason or hate someone on sight, these are not irrational feelings but are sourced from deep within your entire lives-experiences.

If you are really interested in knowing about your immediate past life, you can, easily. This past life chart is same as the D-1 birth chart, but here you will count the 2nd house from the ascendant, as the 1st house of the past life chart. So to find out your personality of the immediate past life, check out the 2ndhouse of your current birth chart. Use the keywords from this post to check out the rest of the houses and thus know your immediate past life.

There are some combinations which allow you greater access to the astral store of past lives. The most important one is Rahu/North Node in the 12th house or in Meen/Pisces rashi, especially aspected or conjoint with Jupiter either in the D-1 birth chart or D-9 navamsha chart. This will allow you to remember the wisdom acquired in the past lifetimes. The combinations involving the 12th house which force you to leave your home and settle abroad are also favourable for accessing past lives.

The Navamsha D-9 kundali is the chart you have to refer to know about your Real Self forged by the experiences of all your lives. For example I know a chart where the person in his past lives, either was always left a widow/widower or continually abandoned his/her spouse. There was intense love on the subconscious levels but not much physical interaction because of these death events. His Venus of the D-9 in the 12th house shows this episodes of loss of physical relationships as a permanent feature. If he marries again, this pattern will be repeated. But his D-1 has Venus exalted in the 9th, aspected by the Moon and Jupiter. This indicates that he was able to convert the loss of the physical into the gain of the spiritual and has developed a perfect relationship with his personal philosophies and Self. This will lead to his Moksh soon.

However there is a recent trend where people visit a hypnotist for knowing about their past lives, through induced trances and regression. This in my opinion is needless and can lead to even more trauma. E.g. you have an irrational fear of thunder and lightning so you go to a consultant. He puts you into a regression trance and you realise that you have in some past life been killed in a lightning strike. All good, the trauma will be resolved now that you know why. But now this hypnotic trance is not a normal action, someone has actively invaded your sub-conscious self. The self has no control on what it is showing you from your past life. So then you see that you were out in the rain because your husband beat you and threw you out of the house, you had nowhere to go. And that husband is now your present life’s son, who now genuinely cares for you. Now what? You have unnecessary information which will now affect your relationship with your son!

There is a reason why the D-9 navamsha kundali and the D-1 basic birth chart are different. You cannot experience the present if you always have the entire past from all your past lives in front of you. In a very broad sense there is nothing called as ‘Time’. There is only a single moment and all your lives from the past, present, future and all the parallel universes are all happening just this instant. The seers and sadhus experience this Moment and thus Enlightenment. As you progress spiritually, you also will access even more information as your mind is able to absorb. Training the mind to absorb the Experience of the Universes and Itself is a slow process. If your mind gets over loaded with information that it cannot make sense of, it will shut down and go insane. There have been several incidents where hypnotic trances went wrong and the person lost his mind. Too much information was revealed during the hypnotic ‘rape’ of the astral self that the physical conscious self, collapsed.

pexels-photo-922619.jpegWe are continually evolving, in each life. Even if you are not consciously aware of it, you move even closer to your ultimate desire, Moksh! So concentrate on your present manifestation, the experiences you are here to learn and the karmic balances you are here to work through. You learn through your interactions with other humans. This is a continuous process. You cannot desire to go back to your past and relive or re-do anything. It has already occurred and you have already learnt from it. And it may be confusing too. We move as a soul-group, inter-connected souls living with each other in all ways, in all relationships and experiences through several lives together. Your mother from your past life is now your son, so how do you wrap your mind around this concept? Even if your best friend, a man now, was your sister in some past life what can you really do with this information?

Another important thing is that in every life the soul manifests a different reality D-1 which is derived from the D-9. Now when your best friend was your sister it was a different personality, it was not her as he is now. Now he is a very different person from who your sister was. It is a mind bender! Too much information about the past causing problems in the present.

Since we have been discussing our continuum of lives, here is something that you should think about. The physical body does not endure, it destroys itself. But the astral body endures. If you focus on developing physical attributes in your life remember that you are investing your energies in a very temporary thing. But if you develop your mental, emotional and spiritual qualities they will be stored in your astral body. These assets will be available to you in your subsequent lives too. A tiniest bit of activation and your assets are back. This is the reason in the Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism), there is a huge focus on spiritual development. It is your asset for all lives to come. You will build on this resource in every life till you finally attain Moksh!

Prediction of Suicidal tendencies

I had written separate posts on depression, addictions and psychiatric problems. And strangely there is a lot of interest on these serious topics related to mental health! Seems that Mercury has this current age of ours firmly in his grip. We live in a world ruled by communications. And most of our problems seem to be rooted in mis-communications and mis-interpretations. Sometimes these mental games become so severe that a person takes the extreme step of consciously ending the physical existence, commits suicide.

woman walking on bridgeFor determining suicidal tendencies in a chart, we need to examine mental and emotional factors and also those factors which actually power the actual action of suicide/death.
  • Check out the planets placed in the 6th, 8th or 12th houses from the ascendant, 6th is the house of disease, enemies, debts and slavery. 8th is the house of traumatic forceful transformations of surgeries, accidents, magic, secrets and death. 12th is the house of the sub-conscious, the astral and the loss of the boundaries of physical realities. These 3 houses from the ascendant are the houses of turmoil and can wreck havoc in a persons life, make it intolerable to continue living.
  • Then the 3rd house from the birth Mercury shows where the thoughts loop and repeat again and again, till it becomes maddening and intolerable. Eg. A Moon placed here will color all thoughts in the emotional context.
  • Weak planets are those placed in the signs of their enemies, or aspected/conjoint their enemies or with malefic planets. Also debilitated planets, combust or retrograde planets have modified energies which give different and unexpected results.
  • Ascendant sign or Ascendant lord afflicted with malefics or weak or badly placed.
  • And because death is death, the mode and circumstances of death is to be seen from the 8th house and the timing of death from the lords of the 2nd and 7th houses from the ascendant.
  • Transits will be important too as the timing of the self inflicted death event will be connected to the positions of the transiting planets.

Since suicide is a termination of the entire physical manifestation lets examine the role of all the planets in this extreme step of complete identity loss.person wearing gray hoodie jacket watching lakeSun – The Sun is the Soul, the ego, self-image, divine intelligence and the spark of the divine animating us. A strongly placed Sun in the chart supports your will to live, your self-worth and self-confidence and you will never have to face psychiatric problems. Even if your birth Moon or Mercury is badly placed, a strong Sun will pull you through. A weak Sun will reduce your resilience to bounce back after mishaps, you are less willing to fight for yourselves and allow the situations to carry you without any resistance. In such a case a badly placed Mercury or Moon will aggravate the problems till you feel there is only one option to get out. The sense of false empowerment that results in tragedy.

Moon – is the mind. we draw our emotional comfort and stability from the moon. A comfortable moon located in good houses and in aspects of benefics ensures a healthy emotional context. If the moon is badly placed it can cause emotional trauma. The nature of the event which can force the extreme step is likely to denial of emotional comfort, support and stability or betrayal from the persons who were expected to provide emotional support. If the Moon and Mercury are severely afflicted together with a damaged Sun and there is zero support from any of the other planets, it can push for the final step generally by drowning.

Mercury – is your analytical process. You have an experience, you link it with your past database of experiences and only then can you conclude from it, this is Mercury in action. Thinking, perceptions and logic. Mercury in a bad place will destroy the analytical thought patterns. The person will take only the negative perceptions from his life experiences and ignore the positives. Over time this mindset will lead him to conclude that life is a pain and not worth living anymore. Thus the final step will be thought of as a viable option.

Mars – is the natural ruler of the 8th sign of the zodiac and is the force who rules over our life and death. 8th house is the house of forceful transformations of identity, death and rebirth. He is also the expression of the Will. If the Will sends instructions for self destruction the energies of Mars will follow. Weak Sun, Moon, Mars and Mercury together is very toxic for the personality. Mars is very important as he will power the actual act of suicide. Such a person might even take up a stupid challenge to do some dangerous activity which will result in his instantaneous death, a type of suicide! If the person is depressed due to other planet aspects, he might try to die by burning the body, slitting wrists, bullets or electric shocks.pexels-photo-307006.jpegVenus – If the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury link up with an equally weak Venus, the person can contemplate committing suicide as a result of broken relationships, betrayal in partnerships and mental trauma caused by lovers or spouses. He can argue with his wife on some silly reason, leave the house and commit suicide. However he would prefer a painless death by sleeping pills or drugs.

Jupiter – Jupiter/Guru is the philosophical base of your life. He controls the Dharma, the theories on which you live. As the natural lord of the 12th house, he controls the astral/sub-conscious and the states after the physical body-death. He can attract a person to the after-death state. A suicide powered by a damaged Jupiter, linked with weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, will show a typical wish to find the better place in the after-death. He is not bothered about his living state as such, the after-death attracts him and he wants to get there asap. Example is ending the body in a pseudo-religious cult practice.

Saturn is connected to longevity, maturity and ageing. If he is associated with the 8th house in any way he can promote long life. But if he is weak, he tends to give an early death or constant illnesses, the body does not endure or does so with great difficulty. A strong Saturn is necessary for a strong body. A weak Saturn linked to an afflicted Mercury and Moon can confer early death by suicide, often by getting under a train or in the road-way. The nature of the precipitating event is likely to be connected to social pressures and shame at being caught in a socially embarrassing position.

Rahu – Rahu is the rule breaker the North Node and his main character is that he respects no boundaries. He is massively ambitious and full desires which can never be satisfied. His constant motif is a over-reach followed by a spectacular fall. This pattern keeps on repeating throughout and if the mind, will and intellect is weak the person can contemplate suicide. This also will be a public spectacle as per Rahu’s mind-set, like jumping off high rise buildings or suicide bombers, or sometimes by injecting poisons in the blood.back view hair observing oceanKetu – the South Node is the agent of dissociation himself, he dissolves boundaries. This mindset will prefer to dissociate from the living state because he has no interest. Apathetic to Life itself. We hear some one who was doing well and ok generally suddenly secretly committing suicide for absolutely no reason. He may not even leave a suicide note! Ketu can confer suicide by consuming poison, in secret or in pseudo-religious cults. He may want to take his life at pilgrimage sites believing that it will grant Moksh.

Thus for a death by suicide prediction, the basic combination is a weak Sun, in combination with an afflicted Mercury, weak Moon and at least one weak other planet. The other planets also contribute their bit in pushing the person over the brink. If the chart has only the weak Sun, Moon and Mercury, the person can get depressive thoughts and think of suicide but wont be able to act on them. This action of actual suicide is determined by the 4th weak planet which gets linked to these 3.

If you come across such a chart in your friends/family circle, remember that this person can be traumatized and pushed, till ending of the physical existence will seem to be a viable option. He needs counselling and be taught to take remedial action when his thoughts begin to loop on himself. Best option which I have seen is, to get such a person hooked on to a Mantra. If he can be made to listen to the Vishnu Sahastranama stotra once a day as a routine, it is a good 22min long Stotra very energy-rich, enough to wash the mind off any negative tendencies. Or any other Sanskrit stotra which is at least 10 mins long. He can listen to it on the way to work or while driving, it will help immensely in controlling his mind and emotions.pexels-photo-185939.jpegUltimately from an energy perspective and what I have seen from my access to the sub-conscious, if a person commits suicide once, he has to repeat this act in the next 7 lives. The next birth occurs as per the mental/emotional/spiritual state of the person at the moment of death. But in a suicide it is very different. The astral body registers the suicide’s energy as an aberration, I have written a bit on what happens at the moment of death in my post on the Moksh trikon here. Also the impressions are stored in the astral body which can be seen from the D-9 navamsha chart, this D-9 chart changes over lives, very slowly. So to completely remove the impression of the suicide event from the astral body, it takes 7 subsequent lives. Taking one’s own life intentionally is against the deepest Conscience/ Antaratma! It is disrespecting the Love that we receive from the Universe/ Parabrahma. It is an unimaginable torture and from a spiritual perspective pushes you back several steps, recovery from this act consumes the energies of the next 7 lives, it is not worth it!
