Gotra the genetic link

Gotra เค—เฅ‹เคคเฅเคฐ is important in families who follow Sanatan Dharma. It is the family lineage, it is the genetic ancestry, the DNA coupled with the consciousness. Every human being has a Gotra, but those who do not follow the Sanatan Dharma have forgotten that it exists.

Go (เค—เฅ‹) has several meanings in Sanskrit – cow, 1, 9, billion, stars, sky, Vajra, ray of light, diamond, heavens, earth, arrow, words, Devi Sarasvati, mother, direction, water, eye, hair, sense organs, sun, moon, singer, house, evolution, sacrifice, hill, tree, wave, bird, the abdomen, horn, etc. And เคคเฅเคฐ here means protection, propagation, help, deliver etc. So the concept of Gotra เค—เฅ‹เคคเฅเคฐ carries a sense of protection of the Go in some way and is also the seed of the Go.

Our DNA makes us unique individuals but this same DNA is also the common human energy which ties us all together. When Sanatan Dharma uses words like Tvashtra, Sarpa, Nag etc they are also indicative of this DNA coupled with Consciousness that each one of us carries within us and which we all carry together as a collective humanity. In Sanatan Dharma we are very particular about our individuality and the health of our DNA + Consciousness. The only way to maintain and repair this is by the use of mantra. We start our day with a mantra eg Kar Darshan Mantra, go to bed with a mantra, eg Ratri Sukta, and recite several more during the course of the day. (‘Modern science’ has now ‘discovered’ that sound modifies the structure of the DNA. They have not yet reached the realm of Consciousness.)

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

The human male is more vulnerable than the female (‘modern science’ also recognises this fact, the Y chromosome is more vulnerable) and our ancestor Rishis had addressed this by giving more Mantra pujas for the male to perform. Men and women are different on several levels. The human race can exist only as long as the human Y chromosome remains in good health, and the men have no option but to bear this additional responsibility.

  • The Anteyshthi sanskar and tarpan related activities and their mantra are the exclusive domain of the men. It helps them maintain and repair their male specific DNA material. Today perhaps only 5% men are making use of this sure shot way of DNA repair.
  • With the deteriorating Yug, the Yajnopavit Sanskar has become exclusive to the men. Maybe only 0.1% of men alive today are maintaining themselves with the power of the Gayatri mantra.

Gotra are genetic clans. Today even ‘modern science’ recognises that within the general human species, there are regional differences in the genetic makeup. This genetic diversity keeps us humans healthy, provides immunity etc to the next generations. However the gotra are even more subtle than the physical DNA clans of humans. We, followers of Sanatan Dharma, know that everything is conscious. Even these DNA molecules within our bodies are conscious. These Gotra are not just our physical DNA but also incorporate this Chaitanya, ie Awareness component too. Gotra combines the physical and the conscious inheritance that we get from our ancestors right from the beginning of this Era.

According to Vishnu Puran, the seven Gotra progenitor Rishi, ie the Brahma Rishis or Sapta Rishi of the current Manvantar, ‘era’ are the Maha Rishis – Vashishtha, Kashyap, Atri, Jamadagni, Gautam, Vishwamitra and Bharadwaj. Maha Rishi Kashyap is also considered to be the original creator of the entire human race. These are the seven original Gotra for this era. Today you will see several more Gotra which were created by several more progenitor Maha Rishis – Shandilya, Agasti, Kaushik, Parashar, etc. These are all Maha Rishi, ie realised souls who lived on Earth for specific purposes. They knew the essence of the Ved, ie Atma jnyan and the complete use of mantra, tantra, yantra. These Maha Rishis used the energy of the Universe to further create diverse groups of humans, ie additional Gotra, who subtly differ from each other. If there is more variation in the human population, it will be more vibrant, healthy etc.

Gotra is by birth, it cannot change. It is the DNA that flows in your body and is necessary to ensure the fitness of the progeny. Gotra is an essential information, everyone must know their gotra. It is essential  for two major activities,

  1. For performing any puja, Sanskar etc of Sanatan Dharma, you formally take the Sankalp, the intention of the Puja. At this time you have to identify yourself by your Gotra call on your ancestral Maha Rishi and request his help in performing this auspicious activity.
  2. And when you want to get married, you cannot marry someone who is from the same gotra as your father or your mother. This helps in maintaining the health of the population on several levels.

Some women think that after getting married their gotra changes and their Gotra is now the same as their husbands. But Gotra is by birth. If someone has the same Gotra as you, then he/ she can only be your sibling not a spouse. Husband and wife by definition have to belong to different Gotra. And ideally you should not be getting married to a person from the same Gotra as your father / mother. For practicalityโ€™s sake however married women continue refer to themselves by their husband’s gotra.

The progenitor Rishis are the foremost Pitru/ ancestors for the Gotra they have generated. And they are also given tarpan as their blessings are required to continue the lineage. If you know their names you can draw energy from that source and these are Maharishis capable of giving you so very much.

A short story/ allegory of the Matsya Avtar. Not going into the esoteric.

King Vaivasvat Manu was giving Argya to the Suryadev and in his cupped palms he found a tiny fish. The fish requested help as it was afraid that the bigger fish might eat it. So Vaivasvat Manu took it to his palace and kept it in a jar. The next day the fish grew as big as the jar, so and was transferred to a bigger tank. Again fish grew and asked to be released into the river. It wanted go to the ocean and grow as large as the ocean itself. It told Vaivasvat Manu that it is the Matsya Avtar of Bhagvan Vishnu and that the Pralay is due. Shri Matsya then asked him build a ship and get his wife Devi Shraddha and the Sapta Rishi/ Brahma Rishis – Vashishtha, Kashyap, Atri, Jamadagni, Gautam, Vishwamitra and Bharadwaj ready for this event.

Soon torrential rains started, Pralay was on its way. Shri Matsya came back, unimaginably large in size. He kept the ship with its precious cargo afloat during the Pralay as the entire creation was washed off. The ship took refuge on the Himalay, the mountain tips were just above the waters. And after it was over, Shri Matsya landed the ship, blessed Vaivasvat Manu, Shraddha, the Sapta Rishis and vanished. The new Manvantar had started. Vaivasvat Manu was the first man and Shraddha was the first woman of this new era. The Sapta Rishi of this new Manvantar performed Yajnya to create all the living beings required to populate the Bhu lok, ie the dimension of the Earth. The Maha Rishis had complete knowledge and understanding of the Ved and knew how to use the Mantra to create all the creatures.

Vaivasvat Manu and his wife Shraddha performed a Yajnya and became the common ancestors of all the humans on Earth today. The Sapta Rishi used their mantra to vary the humans beings created and the first Gotra lineages were created. Later, other Maha Rishi who had the necessary mandate and the knowledge of the use of the requisite mantra were the progenitors of additional Gotra lineages.

In case you do not know your Gotra, and want to follow Sanatan Dharma then you need to get ‘adopted’ into one. Here you have three options,

  1. First is to adopt the Kashyap gotra as Rishi Kashyap is the ultimate progenitor Maharishi of all humanity.
  2. A second option is to adopt the Gotra of your birth Moon lunar mansion, as every Nakshatra has an associated Maha Rishi.
    • Rishi Marichi – Ashvini Pushya Svati Abhijit
    • Rishi Vashishta – Bharani Ashleysha Vishakha Shravan
    • Rishi Angiras – Krutika Magha Anuradha Dhanishtha
    • Rishi Atri – Rohini Poorvaphalguni Jyeshtha Shatataraka
    • Rishi Pulastya – Mruga Uttaraphalguni Moola Poorvabhadrapada
    • Rishi Pulaha – Aradra Hasta Poorvashadha Uttarabhadrapada
    • Rishi Kratu – Punarvasu Chitra Uttarashadha Revati
  3. Third option is to adopt the Gotra of your family Brahmin Purohit.

Gotra is being grateful to your progenitor Maharishi and the ancestors whose inheritance you carry within you. When you say this name while doing your pujas you are also offering energy to all your ancestors and everyone living who carries this same Gotra. You will alawys get your individual merit from the pujas but in this way the entire humanity benefits. Sanatan Dharma is based on gratitude. And you owe the max to the first ancestor whose DNA consciousness you carry within you. So recognise this energy and use it to enrich your existence on this earth.

Hello Maโ€™am, Thank you so much for writing this. I believe everything you write, Iโ€™ve experienced several benefits by applying your mantra suggestions in my day-to-day life, Iโ€™m ever grateful to you.

Now as youโ€™ve mentioned that a married woman must adapt her husbandโ€™s gotra after marriage is certainly the humble gesture of a woman, but itโ€™s entirely a different picture painted in front of us, what Iโ€™ve seen from my childhood days is, during the Bengali marriage rituals the priest performs certain mantras in front of the shaligram shila and mentions that now onwards the bride is converted to a different gotra, now from your write-up I understood that itโ€™s a man made ritual, gotra is like dna, it cannot be changed, thank you for sheding light on the Gotra concept. By birth I belong to the Vatsa gotra, the originator was Bhriguvanshi Vatsa Rishi.

    Tejaswini ji, Pranam,
I read few lines about changing of Gotra after marriage.
But adoption of Gotra, if one does not know, It is altogether news to me.
My quest has turned deeper now…Please help me answers to these questions.

    1. Which books mention details about ‘adoption’ of human into Gotra?

    2. In our Sanatan Dharma, There is always an associated Karmakand to each every event / happening. Does this Gotra adoption has one too? Pls share a name of associated puja/karmakand.

    3. Rishi Marichi..is the most revered, from what I have read. He is considered as Manasputra of Lord Brahma, who created him with his own eyes. He is also father of Rishi Kashyap.
You have associated Abhijit Nakshatra with it…any specific reason for it?

    4. I have understood from various learned men, that in each lineage, there are certain karmkand, which needs to be followed? But never found any document around it? so, never really believed it. Have you come across any book, which talks about this?

Thank for this enlightening post, once again.

    Pranam.

      Hi there
nakshatra rishis are given in the standard jyotish books on nakshatra. i have not associated them, they are as per the texts.
Vishnu puran will give you more information on gotra
and traditions / customs of the gotra vary dramatically, eg the matrilineal families follow the gotra of the mother not the father, which is also equally valid.
these 3 ‘adoption’ systems which can be followed by everyone, irrespective of the regional differences.
the ritual is same as the one followed for ‘dattak’, adoption.
but you can do it with a simple puja at home, offering puja etc to the Maharishi with intention.

for me all Maharishi are equally revered. On a personal level, i revere my and my husband’s Gotra Maharishi and specifically the Maharishis – Vashishtha, Vishvamitra, Vyas…

i do not know of specific karmakand for the Maharishis.

This matter is fundamental for effectively and convincingly countering accusations of patriarchy on Hindus.

Please clarify the apparent contradictions that I am finding between these two statements in your post:
        1. The human race can exist only as long as the human Y chromosome remains in good health, and the men have no option but to bear this additional responsibility. (In the post)

        2. the matrilineal families follow the gotra of the mother not the father, which is also equally valid. (In reply to one of the questions / comments)

It is not clear from comments by aparnabkrishnan that it is men or women who perform the rituals in matrilineal communities. I assume that women perform the lineage related rituals in Keralaโ€™s matrilineal communities. But I remember seeing only men setting aside a morsel before eating โ€“ in patrilineal families.

Your second statement seems to imply that women bear the additional responsibility in matrilineal society and by extension for whole humanity (vasudhaiva kutumbhakam). In doing so, apparently nullifying Y chromosome reasoning for additional responsibility on men as indicated by their role and responsibility in many rituals in patrilineal families. So both statements cannot be correct to my mind (Manas) or intellect (Buddhi).

Please point out what I am missing for reaching a conclusion.

      2. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there

โ€˜Patriarchyโ€™ as understood today is a very flawed concept. the Western mind trying to understand Sanatan Dharma .. and messing things up.

Men and women are different individuals and they have to be in order to maintain the family and society.
        Individual to family to society
        All three are equally important.

        https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2018/10/04/men-are-men-and-women-are-women/

Every house is run by men and also be women. both have equal burdens to carry. Just that the frame of reference is different.
Critically observe your father /mother or if you remember your grandmother / grandfather and their behaviour with each other and in family and in society.

        Think logically not emotionally.
Our Indian individual, family and society dynamics is unique. Applying non Indian labels to this causes confusion.

        1. This is a fact.
Y chromosome is more susceptible to mutations than the X. males are inherently weaker than females at least as per modern science.
        2. Gotra means the energy /intelligence/consciousness, the Name. You have to acknowledge one Maharishi as your progenitor Rishi, he is your first ancestor in the energy sense. By convention if you want to follow the matrilineal or patrilineal that is ok. Or the nakshtra Rishi or Maharishi Kashyap. As long as that space is occupied by the energy of a Maharishi, it is fine.
(In the physical sense all of us are born to Manu that is why we are all called Manav.)

Lineage can be matrilineal or patrilineal but they both follow Sanatan Dharma! the basic structure is the same.
Men will do the men related things and women will do the women related stuff as per Dharma.

eg Tarpan and Anteyshti is the exclusive domain of the men, irrespective of the lineage system that is followed. Ref Garud Puran.
Women should not even enter the Shmashan. Shmashan is not a gentle place, even men do not go there unless they have to.
eg recently my nephew had gone trekking in the Himalay and he unknowingly entered a local village shmashan. these village shmashans do not look any different, just a flat land near a stream where the occasional anteyshti is performed. he randomly fell down there, cut himself, blood flowed and after that he was quite ill for a few days. these places demand energy.

(If you really think with your Buddhi, then immediately after reading this. you should have thought — women are responsible for birth and men for the death related stuff… one is bringing a soul to this dimension and the other is sending it back to pitrulok..
        do you think this? )

Do not add meanings to my words where none was indicated. I write in simple basic English, not Sanskrit.

Manas is something that 99% of us use.
        Buddhi is rare ..
Eg you are driving a car on automatic cruise control, that is Manas. All of us do this.
But you decide to drive it manually, think critically before taking any action, saying anything, interpreting anything. That is buddhi.

Read Tarkashastra, that will help the Buddhi emerge. Else Manas will add emotional contexts to things causing confusion.

      Hi there
what do you mean by tantrik? a follower of Shri Vidya? or the ‘black magic’ practitioners?

Maharishi Agastya taught Shri Vidya in the Dakshin. but anyone can practice it.

saptarishi list is from Vishnu puran. and they vary, from manvantar to manvantar, sometimes the list gets mixed up depending on the puran you refer to. and there are several more lineages and their sub-lineages.

i write only on the energy /philosophical aspects of things, for understanding the subject.

for specifics like this, which are to learnt by rote, you will have to consult an Acharya or a Brahmin who studies the Purans

    Hi ma’am,

They don’t follow a gotra system in Kerala. We are matriarchal especially among the Nair community. We take the mother’s surname.

There are 2 options to pacify or do offerings to ancestors.

    1. To do the rites on the bank of a river . On a new moon day

    2. To do tila homam, sayooja pooja and lotus garland to Mahavishnu in a temple. Again on a new moon day.

I took the second option as we have a famous vishnu temple close home that does both rites.

I had to please my ancestors as advised because I was facing problems/obstacles for a particular reason.

But they have 2 options to take blessing of the ancestors.
    1. Where bali or rites are done on the banks of a river. There are ritual before and after.
    2. A tila homam, sayooja pooja and lotus garland for Mahavishnu. Here you mentioned the family name.

Both are done on a new moon day.

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there

everyone has an ancestor Maharishi, even those who do not follow Sanatan dharma, have this source energy.
it may be matrilineal (in some families) or patrilineal (in most families), but it exists.

Gotra is not just for taking blessings of the ancestors.

Gotra is the identifier energy. and it is essential in every Karma that a Gruhast ashrami person performs.
Sankalp requires this energy. you cannot take Sankalp without acknowledging your all important first Maharishi ancestor.
and no Karma of Sanatan Dharma is possible without the Sankalp .

Tarpan means that you are offering your ancestors energy and gratitude. every follower of Sanatan dharma does it.

in fact we are supposed to do this offering with every meal we take. there are mantra for this and one portion of the food is kept aside for them, at every single meal.
      some do this some dont.
but everyone does this at least once a year.. in pitrupaksh.
(even those who follow halloween are in a very weird way offering pumpkins to their departed ones)

        Hi there
yes, this is the practice in families who follow sanatan dharma.

Jupiter Ketu conjunction should be analysed as per the individual chart.
        check if
jupiter is strong, a benefic, well placed supported by other benefics.
the ascendant sign/lord and birth moon are strong,
        dharma trikon is strong
and Rahu he is aspected by further benefics etc. and the sign he occupies has good points in the ashtakvarga.
then the person is very satvik and capable of great spiritual practice.

        Hi Madam,

        1. By tantrik i mean that many of the practitioners of hardcore tantra (like Raavana) were born in that lineage, also read online that Mahavtar babaji was disciple of the same lineage of siddha Bogarnath, hence just guessed so.

        2. you had mentioned in one of the replies that Rahu if in the Dharma trikon, the person hides his true intent.
But if the Guru + Ketu combination also exists along with Ra+ Saturn (in 5th house, Makar rashi) , and further aspected by Mars from 10th house, then the 5th house of dharma trikon comes under too many influences ( to be exact 5 planets affecting it’s output).

Is the below conclusion of this combination which i have observed from myself is correct?
        1.
The person’s life may be like a ladder and snake game, meaning you do something which in hindsight seems totally unlike you ( most probably because Rahu aspected by Mars gives him energy to do it) just like a snake throwing you down the dharmic path. Also, if one follows the dharmic routine of Mantra+ Daana, the Jupiter+ Saturn can control both the Rahu+ Mars, especially if the Jupiter is powerful ( just like a Ladder) ?

        2. Also, in one of your other posts, you have mentioned below point wrt Rahu, adding it for ref.

“An additional combination, since we are analysing Rahu in the 5th house. If he shifts to the Capricorn or Aquarius navamsha, he gains the power to grant severely inauspicious results in matters of children and the other keywords of the 5th house. In the other navamshas this Rahu gives less intense results.

Now, does it also mean that he can grant severely auspicious results in the matters of 5th house, if he is a vargottam or if the Ketu is in Pushkar Navamsha?

        thanks a lot

      6. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
if this is your own chart, do consult a practising astrologer for a proper reading. these questions on marriage /children require in depth analysis, for which a professional is required.
fr ‘control’ over the possible results, the asc lord/sign and especially the birth moon need to be strengthened.
navamsha reading is from CS patel and also from what i have observed in my client charts.

if this is a sample chart, then observe how this person’s life unfolds.

      Hi there
jupiter is going to stay here for only 2 months which is his normal time frame/ nakshatra.
(he was in uttarabhadrapada for 10months which was an exceptional event.)

and as it is he and Shukra are both hemmed in the paap kartari,
rahu and saturn are in power, so things are going to continue more or less in the same way.

we can expect some change when shukra enters taurus.
then, at least one of the Gurus will be able to give some positivity.

nakshatra transits are best seen through chakras, sarvatobadra and others..
      or through ashtakvarga principles.

nakshatra transits for saturn are more important as he stays in one nakshatra for 1year.

      1. SeekerByNature Avatar
        SeekerByNature

        Tejasvini Ji,
One Rashi spans over approximately two and half nakshatras. Jupiter transits through one Rashi takes one year = 12 months. So normally Jupiter should take 4.8 months for transiting through one nakshatra.

Does not this mean that Jupiterโ€™s transit in Revati for only two months is of abnormally shorter duration?

      2. SeekerByNature Avatar
        SeekerByNature

        Tejasvini Ji,
I don’t have any intention of questioning your knowledge and experience with Jyotish. However I am not reaching the same conclusion as yours in this apparently simple computational matter. Perhaps currently combust Mercury is affecting my Buddhi. Please point out where I am going wrong.

Being the last nakshatra in zodiac (and also because of Gandanta) Revati has a special significance in understanding events in the world, life’s experiences and spirituality.

Jupiter’s 1 cycle = 12 Years = 144 months for 27 nakshatras. This actually gives duration of transit over each nakshatra = 5.33 months. I have checked Panchang again and it shows 2 months for Jupiter’s transit over Revati as you wrote earlier. Actually it is shorter than two months by approximately five days: February 24 to April 21 with February having 28 days. Which to me is surprisingly and abnormally short duration. You wrote that Jupiter’s stay in Uttara Bhadrapada for 10 months (less than two times the normal) was an exceptional event. I agree. But you also wrote that his stay in Revati for two months (nearly three times shorter than the normal duration) is normal.

What am I ignoring or lacking here for reaching the conclusion you have reached?

      3. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
How can you reach the same conclusion as me if you do not have access to the data /experience that I have ?
        ๐Ÿ™‚
It is not like AI. A human mind is always going to be necessary.

and not everyone has a actively functioning Buddhi. 99% people operate on Manas alone. Buddhi is something that has to be worked on and achieved.
        if you want, read tarkashastra.

I think in my earlier answer, I had given links to two posts on the apparent planetary speed / direction of motion?
        Do read them again.

        https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/04/12/movements-of-the-nine-planets-graha/

        http://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/05/27/speeds-of-the-planets-and-the-results-they-give/

Why do you assume that the planet moves in the same direction in the same speed always.
        Your basic assumption is incorrect.

Eg Jupiter moved thru the entire 30 deg of Sagittarius in about 5 months flat in 2019-2020. that was an extraordinary event. such speed and that too in his mooltrikon rashi, the dharmasthan of the zodiac!

The current Revati transit is not very significant from my point of view, so I am not going to write on it. (In fact I did not write on his 10months of uttarabhadrapada either.)
Speed is one thing but the additional influences are more important here. (I wrote on that)
You cannot take one factor in isolation. There are several factors which influence results. And in my opinion his speed in Revati is not the main story here.
You might have different opinions depending on your level of study and your life experiences. that is also fine. you should follow your own thought processes.
Eg if you are a Revati moon then you will feel the effects differently.

If a planet moves fast, he gives acute results. (More useful fr medical emergency type of questions. Here you have to do a day to day reading using the Moon.)
If he moves slowly he gives more protracted and prolonged results. the background energy over a longer period of time.

    Hello maam
As you pointed out in some articles, that followers of sanatan dharma themselves were largely responsible for the terrible fate they had to endure for more than a thousand years. Still goes on in a lot of ways in a lot of places.
But karma and energy exchange works impartially and irrespective of ifs and buts.
Why then the cults who inflicted maximum damage to entire earth( excluding Antarctica), wiped out entire races and civilizations and practices, indulged in worst form of human abuse, now thrive and be celebrated and account for more than 70 percent people on the planet.
They have never faced horrors even a fraction of what sanatanis Or other similar civilizations endured.
Was no karma ‘due ‘to followers of those cults? Surely blind belief in what you do Or naivety of your victims does not absolve you of your portion of karma?

      Hi there
time.. and the law of karma is infallible

we think that they are happy.. but it is not so. and they too know in their hearts what is happening to them. just observe the ongoing collapse of their societies.
and even in the past they have not been ‘happy’. do read the ‘alternative narratives’ of the histories of these lands.

the biggest indicator is the children being born. in two of the three religions, this is declining and very rapidly. not being allowed to transmit the DNA onwards is the biggest negative karmic fruit.
one religion is still sustaining because they are doing something very sincerely at the individual/ collective levels. the day they stop doing this one thing, they too will vanish.

but we can always count on Kaal.. time is the controller of everything. BG has given the assurance for Dharma sthapana. till then we must do our daily mantras and intend for the best for everyone.

if you are intellectually inclined then, think..
Dharmic philosophy destroys Adharmic philosophy, nothing else can do this.
for that we need our Acharyas, Gurukuls etc to take on the responsibility. Shastra is the backbone of the society. first we need to recognise and follow our own Shastra.
the last time the Dharmic society was torn apart was when Buddhist Shunyavadi philosophers failed to make that last intellectual jump into the Advaita and remained stuck in Shunyavaad. This is a very strange ideology which states that there is only a Void. then Adi Shankaracharya and several Acharyas from that era had to logically point out the fallacies of Shunyavad, only then it was accepted as an incorrect concept.

        Dear Tejaswinima’m,
Thank you for explaining these dynamics from dharmic dimension.
Just a query here is that there are few faiths who are way below in numbers….may be below 2/3 lacs or so. But the diaspora is cultured, prosperous and has presence in industry- commerce in India / worldwide.
Is the declining numbers indicator of breaking away and deviation from vedic – deva roots ?
And wellbeing and wealth is due to them still retaining some elements of vedic deity worship even after thousands of years – such as fire worship, Sun worship etc?

never trust what ‘accepted history’ says..

some history homework for you ..

        1. when they landed here what was their financial status ?
        2. when did they get rich suddenly?
        3. how?
        4. who were their ‘business partners’ ?
        5. what did they ‘export’ from India?
        6. where was this ‘product’ exported to?
        7. how many people in India and that recipient nation died because of this?

if you can find out the answers to these Q, you will understand why they are facing this typical Karmic fruit..

      Hello Shala ji,

Your broad understanding of society and your analysis of Karma theory is really appreciated.. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

I humbly try to express here that your questions and Tejaswini mam’s reply made me think as follows..๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

There may be only 15% of people who follow Sanatana Dharma in the world.. But none of them have the tyrannical tendency that everyone should follow our Dharma and only our Dharma is the greatest. And there is no greed that we will get more rewards from God if we convert all the people to our religion.. Sanatani people are naturally generous and calm..๐Ÿ’—

If only big numbers are considered standard, then why are they feeling insecure, jealous, envious and angry when they see only 15% people who follow sanatana dharma??

It will not be surprising that even if they changed all the people in the world(of course it never happens), they were still not satisfied and chose to change even the animals, hills and trees..๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜…

Is this true devotion? Is this a real success? Where do they find real satisfaction????

No matter how much they have distorted our history, destroyed our scriptures and led us astray with superstitions, the Sanatanis have always been guided by the Gurus and scripturesโ€ฆ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Santana dharma always says that one must follow their own consciousness i.e antaratma.. example this blog itself.. it never forces anyone/anything.. Tej mam always says that if you feel like do this, do that or leave it, ultimately one must follow their own conscience.. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Coming to shala ji’s valuable questions..

“”Was no karma โ€˜due โ€˜to followers of those cults? Surely blind belief in what you do Or naivety of your victims does not absolve you of your portion of karma?””

At the beginning the same happened๐Ÿ‘†๐Ÿป with kauravas(Number 100) when they sent pandavas(only 5) to forest by fake moves.. in fact many a times the large number of Kauravas always feel insecure and tried to destroy dharmic Pandavas in numerous times since childhood..

And we all know this during this process undoubtedly Pandavas suffered a lot many times, But Pandavas never ever left their Dharmic buddhi, even though they lost their entire empire, wealth and when their Kulavadhu Droupadhi mata greatly humiliated by adharmic Kauravas in many ways in kuru sabha then Sri Krishna came and saved them..๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Even after the change of eras and the change of generations, all the Pandavas who have gone through so many hardships are called great and all should have the same moral mind as them..

It is said that no one should live as Kauravas with envy and jealousy..

Adharma was not victorious even though great men like Bhishma, Drona and the entire army of Lord Krishna were accompanying it.. ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ

So karma never spares anyone undoubtedly.. ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ

And thank you for your valued questions shala ji.. ๐Ÿ™‚ it helped me to understand this current world in a better way..๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

And Tejaswini mam, When you said that you should utilise Jyotish to understand Vedas and Vedanta, I didn’t understand how to do it at the beginningโ€ฆ But now what I came to know is that you have already started the process with me unknowingly.. First you said that we have to understand the things that happen in life according to the movements of planets with our sample charts.. so i started observing people with their sample charts.. Due to this my mind is disturbed knowing the shortcomings of life.. ๐Ÿ™ then you said that treat your manas read Viveka Chudamani for that..

Viveka chudamani blessed me with understanding of tri gunas and how they influence us.. so i stopped identifying people by their natures and hating them and i started observing them with sattva, rajo, tamo gunas and it’s a fascinating experience which i cannot express by words as sometimes rajo gun activities win and some other times tamas and sattva.. when i face situations i could observe those but i couldn’t stop myself sometimes without reacting.. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

I feel bad because even after knowing this much why i reacted that much and why i couldn’t control myself.. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ but there is definitely a good change in me when compared to my yesterday’s version day by day.. but it’s enough to me.. i felt restless a bit..

then again with a sweet warning you introduced Sankara bhashyam to usโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ’—โœจ๐Ÿ’—โœจ๐Ÿ’—โœจ๐Ÿ’—โœจ๐Ÿ’—โœจโœจโœจโœจ

Undoubtedly it has some great amount of complexity and I too failed once without properly understanding it.. but your articles and comments gave me a hope that i might get some peace with Shankara bhashya so i started reading and understanding and whenever i stuck or to understand more, something is truly helping me..๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
      I could feel it..๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

Shankar bhshyam on BG has answers for everything..

    Tejaswini Ji,
Thank you for all the knowledge and wisdom that you are through your blog. It is very rare to find a blog or website that does not display distracting and disturbing advertisements. Keeping your blog free from advertisements does cost significant amount of money apart from all your time and efforts for writing and answering questions. All these things make your intentions and vision noble, admirable and inspiring. I wish that you have all the energy and resources for successfully fulfilling your purpose and realizing your vision.

I had so many questions for a long time and did not know whom to ask them and who can answer them. You have answered a lot of those questions through posts in your blog.

When I read one of your post for the very first time I read it like any other thing on web, subconsciously assuming that it is like on any other website by an astrologer. Something made me go back and read again. Then I started realizing the differences. The clarity, conviction and confidence that I find in your posts is rarely found. Depth and diversity of your knowledge is also rare. After that I have read many of your post over several months. In every post I have found something — a lot of things that I had not read before anywhere. Intend to read all of them but slowly so that I can really understand and change my life for better.
My gratitude to you, your Sat-Guru, your parents and your family/extended family for making you who you are today.

      Hi there
this blog is a part of my panchamahayajnya efforts that every follower of of sanatan dharma is required to do.
one has to contribute to the society. this is my contribution.

we are also required to share whatever knowledge we have. so if you have learnt something useful from this blog, u too are required to share it with the others around you.

there is technically nothing ‘new’ in this blog. just like any other, it is the same principles of Jyotish and Sanatan Dharma.
i have also given the Jyotish ref books / authors on the ‘books’ page.

it is just the way i think and my perspective on things which is different, shaped by my experience in reading charts and observing people for a really long time.

      1. SeekerByNature Avatar

        Tejaswini Ji,
Thank you for mentioning panchamahayajnya. I have heard or read some about panchamahayajnya many times before. But only today after doing some reading that I understood it reasonably well.
Similarly, I had come across Shri Sukta many times before through various connections. But only after reading in your posts I listened to Shri Sukta several times and I could feel the change in my mind. Since then I listen to Shri Sukta almost every day a few times.
What I am trying to communicate here is that you have a way of connecting your readers with the source because you have studied the original sources. I too share my learning and experiences but only after I have learned significantly enough and studied some original sources to be able to answer questions without creating doubts that I cannot clarify. I started renewing my connections several years ago with Vedic knowledge system (foundations of Sanatan Dharma) with Ayurveda when my own experiences pushed me to learn and practise it for self-healing. I not only share my experiences and perspectives but also question people who blindly follow modernist system of medicine and keep suffering.
What I have come to realize increasingly clearly is that none of these subjects like Ayurveda, Jyotish, Yoga(shastra) can be learned or practised in isolation. They are inherently and naturally interconnected and refer to each other. You have created a context through your posts in your blog that make these interconnections easier to understand and appreciate.

        Hi there
everything that i have written about here, mantra, puja, or about charts.. i have practiced it..
i also read a lot.. and books written at least a 1000yrs ago are beyond value..

our Rishis have written about everything and in such detail!
and everything that they wrote has the same philosophy /thought process /realisation /consciousness /intelligence as its foundation /Dharma.
eg if i have to explain Advaita in the language of eg natyashastra i can do it and beautifully.. read Abhinavgupta’s detailed commentary on Bharat Muni’s work. or look at Mahabharat as a ‘natya’ and see the genuis of Vyas muni in creating Shantarasa at the end of it! or look at our existence on this earth as a vast Natya and enjoy the beauty of it..
the same mahavakyas, the same panchadashi, the same rasa, everything is the same.. and its beyond beautiful..

        Dharma is Eternal, Sanatan..
but to understand this and live its beauty requires Buddhi .. it cannot be done just with the Manas.

    Dear Tejaswini ji,

I have been reading your blogs for 2 years now. I have been following your advice on spiritual growth with daily sadhana since and have experienced tremendous change.

Personally, recently I had an attack on astral levels and felt pran was being drained from me. It was so bad that I could not even call upon ishta devata during the dream attack (lasting for more than a week) and it had leaked into my daily life. I went through your blogs and started anushtan with Sri Narasimha Kavacham for protection. As described, I have immediately fallen ill, but my pran levels are almost back to normal and the attacks have immediately stopped. My many thanks to you for showing the way for protection (and infinite thanks to Sri Narasimha for protecting me so lovingly). Still I have not picked up daily dhyan as I am breastfeeding my second child. Hope to restart the practice soon.

I also have 2 questions. I hope you can answer them.
    1. ——–
I can only draw the parallels between them and Tripuraasuras. I don’t know how the story will currently end, but am fearful for the effect it will have on the remaining population in the world.

    2. This is regarding the missing/misinterpreted 9th avatar of MahaVishnu. Some have proposed Sabarimala Ayyappan as the missing link. I am interested to know your thoughts on this. I personally do not know if Ayyappan existed before Sri Krishna.

Lastly, I read your recent blog on Saturn aspecting Jupiter-Rahu in Aries.
I know of a chart which has Jupiter-Rahu in Leo lagna, and Mars-Saturn(both retrograde) in Scorpio in 4th house. The lagna lord Sun is in 10th house Taurus with Venus (Sun-Venus). It is proving quite difficult to counsel the client as the energies are both conflicting as well as enmeshed so thoroughly. Since it is a student, I have only advised to focus more on studies and not be distracted, as well as make to child join any form of martial arts to discipline and channel the energies correctly. Going through Venus-Saturn dasha, so expecting difficulties in making friends and studies at the moment. It is easy to see the person might go astray very quickly, but I think Jupiter in Leo might save the situation. How to counsel people with such difficult placements?

Thank you very much for your blogs,
    Sumana

      Hi there
      1.
mantra – which beej is used in those mantra the most ?.. what does that beej stand for?
routine – very rigid, a combined resonance.
discipline – very strict , complete faith, full intention.

most Hindus do not have this.
that is why i insist on a daily routine, 5 mins morning/evening at least, and also midday/ midnight if you can manage it.
children must be encourage to follow this routine.

      2.
there was an involved discussion on this , several months ago.. maybe you can search for it in the comments section..

I am a Jyotishi, so my take on this. derived from BPHS, ๐Ÿ™‚
BPHS second chapter, the first 13 shloks.
Paramatmaamsha avtars are Shri – Ram Krishna, Narasimha, Varaha.
      others have a Jivatmaamsha.

satya yug – Shri – Matsya, Kurma, Varaha, Narasimha
treta – Shri – Vaman, Parashuram, Ram
dwapar – we know it ended with Shri Krishna
(kali – Shri Kalaki – not yet manifested. So we will leave this one aside for a bit.)

      the logic is –
      1. each yug has at least one Paramatmaamsha avtar
      2. 4 3 2 1 is more logical than or 4 3 1 2.
      3. checking the chronology in satya and treta. the Paramatmaamsha avtar is the last one of that yug. and the name/ number of the Paramatmaamsha avtar is fixed. so logically the Paramatmaamsha avtar Shri Krishna should be the last of the yug. the missing avtar should have been born before him.

Siddharth Gautambuddha who was born in Lumbini cannot be a avtar. he was born after Shri Krishna.

checking the names of the graha and the avtar. เคฌเฅเคฆเฅเคงเคƒ เคธเฅ‹เคฎเคธเฅเคคเคธเฅเคฏ
the name of the avtar is เคฌเฅเคฆเฅเคงเคƒ and his graha is somasuta ie mercury/ budha.

so the avtar cannot be Shri Balram or Shri Ayyappa. they was never referred to as เคฌเฅเคฆเฅเคงเคƒ

but there is one เคฌเฅเคฆเฅเคงเคƒ who was born before Shri Krishna. He is the progenitor of the Chaandravansh. Budha, born to Tara. son of Chandra and adopted as a son by Bruhaspati. He was an illustrious king etc and is specifically known for the extraordinary Tapas that he performed. you can say that he taught the world how to do Dhyan, Dharana etc. he fits the time, the logic and his achievements are great.

this is what logically fits, other than that it is anyone’s guess.

and frankly, it does not matter much.
As long as you do your daily pujas and keep faith in.
All the deities are the same essential consciousness.

      3.
since you have mentioned that this person is a child.

the parents have to be more active. perform regular pujas at home, ie shanti homa, satyanarayan puja, homa on birthdays, auspicious days etc as much as possible.
if such pujas are not possible then at least to go to a nearby temple as a routine.

If they can offer oil (even a few drops is fine) to Shri Maruti temple every saturday, or better the child can go to this temple every saturday to offer the oil it will be helpful.
Reciting Maruti stotra in any language, at least every Saturday, will help. The parents can do this for the child. and if the child can do this for a life time it will take care of so many issues.

As a lover of literature, if I could wish for only one thing, it would be getting an opportunity from you to read and enjoy mini literary stories, poems or stories between couples who are lords of sattva, rajo and tamo gunas, by adding emotions in your style with navaras.. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s definitely not casual or formal praising words.. I mean it from the bottom of my heart.. โค๏ธ

      Hi there
      thank you for the compliment..

      but
you mentioned 8, and missed the most important one.

      i do not like duality..
the only form of duality which is acceptable to my mind is Guru Shishya. and only coz the Guru transforms the shishya to the Guru itself.
Unfortunately today people do not understand the true arth of the shabda ‘rasa’ in the first place.
and have zero understanding of ‘shringar’ .. the householder mind wants to remain in the gruhast level
(and the missing one always remains missing.. )

so HW for you – what is the dominant rasa of Mahabharat?

      1. Aham Sakshi Avatar

I forgot to mention Shanti rasa..
Thank you so much for taking me into this loukika and aloukika rasas world for sometime at least during this period.. ๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’—

Yes I know very clearly that you are a sincere Nithya atma dharshana nishta garishta in every possible aspect of this creation.. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป Yet holding the ‘Guru transforms the shishya to the Guru itself’ is so nice ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป and it beautifully tells us your Guru Bhakti without saying it.. ๐Ÿ™‚

If possible, would love to hear the true ardha of shabda rasa in your style as I only limited to shabda alankaram and ardha alankaram..

And thank you for always encouraging us by giving homeworks..It expands the reader’s thinking range in a broader way.. ๐Ÿ™‚

And coming to the most dominant rasa of Mahabharat, This question surprised me a lot as i haven’t seen Mahabharata in this rasa way.. Whatever the answer is, once again you have shown me a new way to see the beauty of life.. ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž

As per my understanding dharma sthapana is the main motive of Mahabharat.. it’s always a fight between dharma and adharma..

        So among 9 rasas

        Shringara(Love)
        Hasya (Mirth)
        Shoka (Sorrow)
        Krodha (Anger)
        Utsaha (Energy)
        Bhaya (Terror)
        Jugupsa (Disgust)
        Vismaya (Astonishment)
        Shanta (Peace)

Here I’m getting a bit of confusion mam..
When I’m trying to remember the entire Mahabharatam, these things come to my mind first..

1.Parasara maharshi & satyavati mata and Veda vyas maharshi birth..

        2.shantanu & ganga Mata

        3.Bhishma prathigna

        4. shikandi’s krodh and revenge for bhishma

        5. Disappointment of Dhritarashtra & Gandhari couple..

        6. Kunti mata mantra and karna’s birth

        7. Pancha Pandavas birth

        8. Pandu Raja’s death because of a curse..

        9. Jealous and envy nature of Kauravas

        10. Guru dronacharya gurukulam

        11. Arjuna’s vilu vidhya and bhima’s strength

        12. Minister Vidhura helps Pandavas to get rid of wax house in forest

        13. Most cunning shakuni dice..

        14. Krishna’s protection for dharmic Pandavas..

        15. Draupadi mata sangharshana

        16. Abhimanyu & Padma vyuham

        17. Krishna’s clan and brindavan

        18. Finally kurukshetra yudham

        Most importantly Bhagavad gita sandesh
        For mankind..

So Dharma sthapana is the main motive for BG so that Shanti rasa is the dominant rasa ??? ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

Can’t wait to hear your beautiful perceptions.. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

        Hi there
you said tht you are a student of Natyashastra.

Shanta rasa is the foundation of everything. a natya starts with this and ends with this.
the simplest way i can put this in, the Shantata of the stage in the instant before the first word/action is performed and again the Shantata of the instant when the last action is complete.

        Read abhinavgupta..
interesting fact – Bharat muni writes mainly about the 8 rasa. and the 9th one was described by vasuki naag.

eg when you go to a bhajan and for 3 hours you sing about your deity. songs with several themes.. in some the deity is fighting, sometimes killing demons, sometimes givng blessings, sometimes playing with the children, sometimes going with the spouse etc.
but after 3 hrs of bhajan, when you get up and wear your chappals, what is your internal ’emotion’ ? if it is shant then it means that you have absorbed the essence of the bhajans.

rasa is not just ’emotion’, the limited english can never reach the depths of this word ‘rasa’

our lives are also a drama.
this is the biggest natya that we are all performing,
and it strictly adheres to the rules of the same Natyashastra.
analyse your life and this creation as per the rules of Natyashastra,.

Vyas muni is supreme Kavi, he has presented the Itihas in the prefect Natya format.
every rasa finds its space here but ultimately it is Shaant. Nirveda, detachment, vairagya, is its sign. all the rasa are created from shant and finally merge in the shant.
our genuis Rishis! no other writer has ever managed to come even close to him.. the Mahabharat is the greatest work ever, it is the called the pancham ved, sometimes as a upanishad..

when reading Natya by our Rishi Muni one must be clear on what the author wants to refute/ the purvapaksh and what he wants to prove/ siddhant.
if you get this basic concept mixed up then you wont really understand what is happening.

It is definitely a Dharma shastra but its dhvani / essence is Moksha shastra.
pravrutti is described beautifully but for the purpose of refuting it, to generate nivrutti..
it is a Narayan Katha (and what does ‘Narayan’ mean?)
its ‘fruit’ is the shanti parva.

it starts and ends with a prayer to kaal. it generates Vairagya. Nirveda. Shant rasa.

Only Maharishi Vyas could have done this.. no one else can even think of doing something like this.

Everyone must read Mahabharat properly at least once in life.
