Sadness and 12th from the Moon

Last Updated on May 20, 2022 by astrologerbydefault

Turmoil, in the real sense, is when felt on the emotional level. So when you analyse the dusham sthan, also analyse these three positions from the birth Moon too. ie In the birth Moon chart, check out which planets and signs are located in the 6th house, the 8th house and the 12th house from him. These energies will hit you on the astral, emotional, instinctive, intuitive etc levels. This sort of pain cannot be expressed openly and neither can be addressed adequately and is generalised into a generic sadness.

Having too many planets in these three houses from the Moon will create a personality which is detached from the inside. Emotional turmoil in life comes from all these connected planets. Their dashas or significant transits are the triggers and because there are so many of them, life is a continuous series of emotional hits. Eventually this will push you into serious psychological issues or turn you into an ascetic. You want to leave on the emotional levels.

Generally we are aware of the planets placed in the 6/8 axis from the birth Moon. We factor in the Shad Ashtak axis influence on the personality as these two planets are unable to interact meaningfully and often give traumatic results. Eg the 6/8 axis between the Moon and Jupiter is the Shakata yog. These two planets are caught in the turbulent cycle of serve or suffer / catastrophic changes and significantly affect the personality and the surrounding environment. It is wise to be careful during every time period where such planets are in charge of your life, ie their Dasha periods or significant transits.

But we always miss the 12th from birth Moon as it is disguised as the Anapha or the Durdhara yog which is considered auspicious. Anapha means that there are one or more planets, except the Sun, in the 12th house from the birth Moon. Durdhara means that there are one or more planets in the 12th house from and 2nd house from the  birth Moon.

In my personal observations I have seen that the Anapha or the Duradhara yog give several physical achievements, this is as per the standard books. But the planets in the 12th from the birth Moon are also a source of undefinable pain and sadness which takes its toll on the astral self.

Eg. Suppose your ascendant is Aries. Birth Moon in Cancer, 4th house. And Jupiter and Saturn in Gemini sign, 3rd house. So,

Jupiter and Saturn are 12th from the Moon, so people and things connected to these two will create emotional strain all the time. This would be,

  • the keywords of the 3rd house and Gemini sign things.
  • The keywords of the 9th 10th 11th and 12th houses, ie Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces signs.
  • Jupiter is the natural karak of higher learning, Dharmapati/ patni ie spouse, children etc.
  • Saturn is the natural agent of profession, the father who teaches how to live in a society, the social image, gains of every sort of activity etc.

All these things will cause you emotional and mental disturbances. Especially the Dasha periods, ie  Jupiter Mahadasha 16yrs and Saturn Mahadasha 19yrs, will be a seamless influence spanning 35yrs. This time will carry the power of the Anapha as well as the subtle energies of emotional loss. If both Jupiter and Saturn are strong, capable of favourable results etc, then these 35yrs will give you all the material results promised by the Anapaha, ie fame, money, social recognition, progress, expansion etc, it will be a good time on the material front. But the underlying theme will be an inexpressible stress on your mind. So as you get all these and other individual chart specific things connected to them, eg get married, get a job, have a child, are recognised socially etc, you will also feel all this to be a loss on the emotional levels. There will be no sense of satisfaction, a subtle strain will pervade each one of these things even as you gain them.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

I have written several posts on the 12th house energies (Index page). When you are analysing the 12th from the Moon you have to remember that all these typical 12th energies of dissolution will operate but now through the lens of the Moon. And the Moon is your existence, past, present future and parallel.

Another thing that we miss analysing is the attributes of the signs, especially so if they are empty. Any sign which is placed 6th 8th or 12th from the Moon, vacant or occupied, should be given the same importance as the planets placed here. In our example, the 12th house from the birth Moon is the sign Gemini. So you will face emotional turmoil from the agents of Gemini sign, ie siblings, people younger than you, teammates, people with the same skills as you, neighbours, extended family etc. You will also feel conflicted when you take decisions or try to create options for yourself or try to walk on a path where personal courage is necessary. If you calculate the Dasha using any Rashi based system, eg the Kaalchakra Dasha, the time periods ruled by Gemini will give you significant material achievements and also the linked typical emotional confusion which is the energy of the 12th house from the Moon.

Next, analyse the ruler of this 12th from the birth Moon sign as he too has a similar effect on the mind. In our example, Dasha periods or significant transits of Mercury will have the same theme of emotional losses and high material gains. He is the primary incharge of the emotional memories from your past lives and also the memories of your ancestors that you carry in your DNA. We connect more with others if we ‘feel’, so this 12th ruler can grant access to a lot of wisdom, if you can become consciously aware of what he is upto in your life. But this is inherently difficult as he does not allow any conscious individualistic control over him. You cannot rationally analyse him. Another point is to observe people born in Dasha periods of such 12th from the Moon planets. These will be very successful individuals, but in some way separate from their achievements, isolated, self-contained, apart, ie not fully there.

So in our example, if you were born in the Dasha of Jupiter, Saturn or Mercury, you will have this all pervading sense of unbelonging, a ‘sadness’ right from your birth and which will possibly continue till the physical death. But you will be a successful individual in the eyes of the world. (I know a chart born in Saturn Mahadasha, Pisces Moon. And Saturn placed 12th from his ascendant sign, double dose of 12th energies.)

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

The 12th house is quite mysterious, more so from the birth Moon. Here the planets are capable of giving you significant power over your subconscious mind. But only if you can manage to overcome the psychic disturbance that they cause to your astral self. If the personality is strong enough, these planets in the 12th from the Moon can grant a deeper understanding of the astral, the occult, past lives, other dimensions, ancestors in Pitrulok, decipher messages from entities, etc. You can simply ask for information, energy or guidance and it will be readily given to you.

But in typical Dasha/ transits, the negative effect of the planets will be seen on the birth Moon. As the 12th house increases its influence over the mind, it pulls towards its unfathomable depths. Your soul’s past life emotional memories are linked to this house so impressions from several lives impinge on the mind. Your current life may seem insubstantial or you may actually feel confused as to which life you are actually in. Such disturbances may manifest as lack of emotional control, emotionally inappropriate behaviour, mood swings, inability to cope with the emotional aspects of the situations you are in etc.

Enormous information will be channeled into your mind, so you might haze out as your mind takes time to process it. You might want to isolate yourself on the emotional level to be able to deal with what is happening to you. These times periods will be busy on the astral levels, so you will dream more vividly, have more flashes of intuition etc, a sense of non-realness will exist. If these planets are strong then you will be able to use these astral experiences in a more productive manner, ie assimilate them more easily into your life. You might take up meditation, travel to natural/ remote areas, even sleep more etc, this will help. You will feel an emotional separation from the material things represented by these planets even as they give you more and more physical gains.

Several planets placed 12th from the Moon, will give more intense effects. I have written about planets in the 12th from the ascendant sign, so try to think of the emotional ramifications of these planets when you are analysing in context of the Moon. Especially if the ascendant lord or Ketu is placed 12th from the Moon there will be more intense effects on the Mind.

  • The ascendant lord is 12th from the Moon, will deny emotional satisfaction in everything. Ability to meaningfully emotionally connect with someone or something else will be lacking. You will be emotionally contained within your own mind, not really aware of your deepest emotions. Sharing your feelings will be difficult and only with those rare people with whom you are very closely intimate. Really trusting others may not be easy, as you subconsciously expect everything to cause you emotional loss. You are emotionally disconnected with your personality itself, this happens because you cannot recognise the emotional boundaries of your own self/ environment which is the domain of the ascendant lord.
  • Ketu placed 12th from the birth Moon should always be evaluated carefully. The astral realms will be very busy as in addition to your past life emotional imporessions, your ancestral spirits are very much there. You might have no deep emotional relationships in the waking life. Messages from the ancestors or spirit guides are strongly shown to you. All this can get very confusing, as you seem to ‘hear’ their voices in your mind. Your Mind has no defences. ie Ketu is the nebulous undefinable and in the 12th house from the Moon he does not allow you to be aware of what all causes losses to your astral, emotional, intuitive, subconscious self. This can put you in dangerous situations where your mind can crack due to the strong unstoppable flow of astral energies. Your mind can be overloaded for no apparent reasons and this can lead to emotional collapses and later physical problems.

As usual, if your birth Moon, ascendant sign and its lord is strong, ie has good shadbala, ashtakvarga score etc then you will be more able to navigate through. If not then you should be aware of what is possible and take corrective actions in time to reduce the impact.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

If you have any planet in the 12th from the Moon, check the power of the 9th house from the Moon. If the 9th is strong, ie has powerful planets, is capable of auspicious results, is aspected by benefics etc then you will be able to better use the energies of the 12th. The pure astral nature of the results will change as you will be able to in some way translate them into the current life that you are living.

If there are significant or several planets here, make it a point to remain in solitude or with nature once in a while, it will help. Also do things which will fortify your Moon, ie the mind.

Finally again, these undefinable intense feelings are not going to affect the physical achievements. Generally the material things in life will be quite good as promised by the Anapha or the Durdhara yog. But the feeling of not completely being there will persist. Genuine enjoyment in those achievements will not be possible. You might desire things which you do not consciously understand. Most of us will classify this indescribable feeling as a deep sadness, a loss on the emotional levels and the rare few will use this feeling to push onwards on their path to Moksh.

(In my life, am going through a combined Mahadasha of 2 very strong planets in the Anapha yog. 20+yrs of a lot of material achievements, with the concurrent effect on the Moon.)

Thank you…it seems like life has blessed me to be able to read this article from you, Tejaswini-ji.As of the moment, my 12th house from the Moon is caught up with triple transiting planets in Virgo  and it sure does giving me a lot of never-heard-before information through visions, impressions. real-life events and hunches about people around me…For Mercury, you were right on the high material gains whilst the emotional “blankness” and a sense of loneliness does occurred to me the past few days (Having such a good paid rate for the first time actually giving me this isolation feeling from others, as now I have to learn to manage my wealth and that inner stinginess of me started to emerge, further the innate feeling of disconnection)Hopefully, after October 20th as all planets got out of the retrogradation phase, things will start to get lighter on my mind.Namaste,T  Sent from Mail for Windows From: psychologically astrologySent: Saturday, October 9, 2021 11:58 AMTo: mrthanhle99@gmail.comSubject: [New post] Sadness and 12th from the Moon astrologerbydefault posted: "Turmoil, in the real sense, is when felt on the emotional level. Pranaam Madam,
The post is much more than resonating. I have my ascendant lord in 12th from the moon, and the moon is aspected by saturn. It has been painful. The internal push to just leave everything is immense, and it is like I am hanging on to the materialist aspect by a thin thread, not to mention the turmoil. I have always wanted to ask about the 12th moon, and this post is just amazing. The desire to run away from everything and everyone, and I am unable to do so, I feel as if I am in a trap. Reading this post cleared so many doubts.

Thanks so much Madam as always.

When we know that there will be pain, turmoil due to debilitated planet or 6th, 8th, 12th house related Dasha bhukti, how to channelize the painful / aggressive energy safely. How to transform this energy, for the betterment of us.
Kindly advice on channelizing and transforming such an energy.

    Namaste Madam,

Thank you very much for this very informative post. I don’t usually place comments on your site, but I wanted too with this particular post, as it is very accurate with my personal situation. I have gained a lot of insight, clarification and understanding from your analysis of 6, 8 and 12th positions from the Moon in this article. For the bulk of my life I have had internal emotional turmoil that requires my constant attention, and could never really figure out (from an astrological point of view) why I was in frequent emotional turmoil and disarray. I never thought to examine the planets as they sit from the Moon. I have Virgo rising with Moon in Cancer (with Venus). 6th from Moon is Mars and Rahu in Sagittarius. 12th from Moon is Sun, Jupiter, Mercury (ascendant lord) and Ketu in Gemini. I was born right after a solar eclipse, so Ketu is running True Direct motion as well, and is in less than one degree of exact conjunction with retrograde ascendant Lord Mercury in own sign. Moon is also in Saturn nakshatra. Saturn is exalted retrograde and fully aspects Mars, Rahu, Moon and Venus as well as the 8th house. Everything you touched on in your post is more or less in effect with my birth chart. I was amazed as I was evaluating what you had to say. Even though I was a successful IT professional for 20 years (and performing musician as well), my external ‘successes’ never really gave me emotional comfort or peacefulness. I recently retired and have also entered my Rahu mahadasa over this summer. I am already feeling the effects of this Rahu mahadasa. For no real apparent reason I have purposely decided sever relationships with just about all of my past friends since I retired… because I don’t (and never did) really enjoy their company or their materialistic views of life. At this point I am feeling that their association is an impediment to my spiritual growth. Hence, I am currently in ‘self-isolation’ for the most part. Not because of Covid, but because of my yoga practices and study of Vedic scriptures. The bulk of my day consists of japa (several hours) and puja with my Deities. I’ll also often go to the park where there is a large lake. I find it sooths me and creates a good atmosphere for my japa meditation. Even though my wife (of 32 years) lives with me in our home, I may go several days without even seeing her. I don’t intentionally do this, it just happens. Anyway, thanks again for your enlightening information on planet positions from the Moon, and some advice on how to deal with these stresses!

Another great article! My chart has an interlinking of these 6,8,12 energies, but with a difference. As a Dhanu lagna, Mars is my 12th lord from, both, Asc, as well as the Chandra lagna. Both these signs are empty (Scorpio and Aries). But, Chandra being my 8th house lord is exalted in the 6th (Vrishaba rashi). Guess who is present along with the 8Th lord in my 6th? 12th lord Mars! I was born in the Chandra dasha which was followed by Mangal. That was a very difficult period in my childhood. The other portfolios held by Mars are 5th and 7th houses (as counted from both lagnas).

    Dear Madam,
I hope I am not rude if I have a question that is not connected to this current topic. I am a Tula Lagna and will soon enter into my Venus Mahadasha. I read your article on Vimshottari dasha of the rulers of different houses and your statement about Libra ascendants and Aries ascendants really caught my attention. In the article you wrote that Aries and Libra ascendant should be ready to change when the 8th house lord Mahadasha operates (in my case Venus is Lagnesh and 8th house lord sitting in 11th house) so I was wondering if Venus Mahadasha as you stated is there to rebuild our characters. If so how can we navigate the destruction phase – should we just let go and let the Planets do their work or should we dive deep into spiritual practices to prepare for the Mahadasha?
I am feeling a little bit excited and anxious at the same time – Ketu made me really think hard about my purpose of the life I am living, even though I am still lost I am hoping that Venus Mahadasha does not destroy the insights I gathered up until now. I read all of your articles on Tula Lagna and I am truly honored to have found your blog.
It amazes me every time, how much time and dedication you put in it. I am thankful that even in troubling times we can still find your blog and get enlightened by all your knowledge you are willing to share with us. Hopefully I was not to disrespectful with my question (about another topic under this amazing article) and I wish you a wonderful day.

    Hi Ma’am,

This is a very fascinating post! My chart has 1 planet 6th from, 2 planets 8th from and the 3 (incl. lagnesh) 12th from the birth Moon. Also, the Moon is conjunct Saturn. The pull to transcend the temporary realm is quite strong but like you mentioned, the clarity and acceptance came after a lot of emotional turmoil. I still have a few more years to go before Saturn matures. Now, I largely focus on fortifying and strengthening the moon.

    Would you suggest anything else?

Thank you in advance for your response!

It feels as if you are speaking to me in this post. Cancer Asc, Scorpio moon, Rahu in 12th house from lagna, Jupiter in 12th house from moon. If I consider the Bhava Chalit chart, then Saturn moves from 3rd to 4th house, so now Saturn also in 12th from moon. If I didn’t have my intellect, and my mind, to give me comfort, I don’t know how I would have survived. I have survived, but the more I am okay with what my life changes are, deep inside the happier yet the more removed from everything material I get… maybe I’ll retreat far from everything. Who knows.

This was a very nicely written article. What happens when moon sign cancer is 12th house from Moon placement with no planets in it. Based on this article one can generalize a deep rooted sadness from elder female / mother figures. Possibly discontentment with ones own emotions? But here 12th is pointing to 1st so there must be something else happening as well.

    Thanks!

Have a question and hope to get your invaluable guidance on this please 🙏

If a sadhak talks to a victim of black magic (and the victim’s whole affected family) over phone and the victim happens to explain all the details of the black magic & it’s negative effect on them, would that negatively affect the sadhak at the energy level in any ways?

Many thanks for the guidance 🙏🙏

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
if the sadhak is on a higher energy level and feels genuinely concerned/ attached/ emotional/ worried etc, feels an emotional reaction about these people then his higher self will give them energy. this will obviously deplete his reserves to that extent.

this is the exact reason why people should not go crazy about reading charts or doing readings for others or calling themselves empaths or anything like that. this field of astrology, tarot, runes etc is not something clean or wholesome. its getting into the dirt that other people create in their lives.
only if you can achieve an emotional disconnect with others should you do read other’s energies, else you can ruin your life.
a genuine astrologer will never get involved emotionally with the client or with what he is seeing in the charts or what the clients are telling him. he will analyse the problem, take into account everything as per his knowledge and intuition, suggest the solution. but he will not worry if the client has not acted on his advice.

Check the intensity of the combustion.
The sign tht the sun is in will modulate his behaviour thus also link to the planet he has combusted to tht extent.
But the sign the combusted planet is in cannot b ignored. It too will give its effect on the planet and by extension the sun
