Mantra pujas the dos and don’ts

Last Updated on December 1, 2021 by astrologerbydefault

I wrote about practicing the Gayatri mantra daily and there were several questions, thus this generic post.

Everyone above the age of 6yrs should take up one mantra or stotra as a life time thing. ie Recite it every day during your daily puja routine. Choose this as per your convenience and inclination but dedicate yourself to this mantra, your life line for this lifetime. When you do a mantra jaap regularly, you are actually working very hard, focussing your mind, body and soul on this mantra daily for a few mins. This regular practice adds up over your lifetime. Eg exercising daily for 15mins is more sensible and useful than working out once a month for nonstop 24hrs. The mantra is pure Intelligence, it magnifies the work you have done on it and reflects it back at you.

The quantum of energy does not matter as much as your conscious control over your own Mind does. Read this line twice.

Eg. someone I know, does intense jaap of Navavaran mantra but without the necessary lifestyle to be able to absorb such enormous amounts of energy. This has affected her negatively, her mind has become unstable. Generating power from intense mantras is dangerous if you cannot control it.

Sadhana is something that genuine aspirants, Sadhaks or people with a genuine ascetic bent of mind do. They will invest time, energy and sacrifice several things in this process. For doing Sadhanas, you need combinations for asceticism in your chart. Intense Sadhana creates Nivrutti in the mind of the aspirant, ie detachment from the material, from the Game of Creation, from the Lila. This intensity is not for everyone. And, in fact, it is not even necessary for everyone.

So when it comes to spiritual practice, do only that much which you can easily do. You should feel happy when you do it. If you ever feel that it is a burden, review and reduce the practices. Rather than trying for ‘high power’ mantra which others recommend, do what you feel is the best for you even if it is for a few minutes, eg do it for 3 repeats if you feel 108 repeats is too much. But do something daily.

Generally gruhast ie householders do not do such Sadhana. What we do is, perform our daily puja and sometimes Anushthans, ie a targeted pujas. Daily puja would be something quite brief, 10mins max, generally lighting a deepak, putting tilak, putting flowers and doing Arti of the family gods. Daily pujas do not have many rules and are simple. Anushthans are more intense and last for a few days. eg I might intend to do a Gayatri Laghu Anushthan, ie 24000 repeats of the mantra in 9 days of the Ashwin Navratri. In these 9 days I will be bound by several restrictions. I will follow these rules to safely channelise the energy I generate with this mantra into my body. As a householder we are used to certain habits which we cannot continue when we take up targeted Anushthans. The rules vary in the different Anushthans but there are common themes. The first restriction will be on food, ie tamasic foods like non-veg, brinjal, heavy pulses like masoor, highly oily food, very spicy food, alcohol and other addictive substances, food cooked by others etc will stop. Eating ghee, milk from desi cows, eat food you cook yourself, keeping to yourself, not speaking much, not touching random people, shaking hands etc or travelling in crowded public transport will not be possible, physical intimacy with your spouse will stop for that time. Sticking to the schedules determined by your Anushthan will be necessary. You have to discipline your body first, this discipline will then more inwards as the mind gets disciplined. Thus you will get the results of the Anushthan.

Common householders/ gruhast, cannot channelise much power, ie the entire ocean cannot be poured into a small cup. Householders are tiny cups, highly insufficient to hold the power of the mantras in their full-fledged form. So gruhast people are encouraged to slowly increase their capacity with all these festivals we have in the Sanatan Dharma. And we have a festival practically every fortnight. As you do the pujas associated with these festivals throughout the year, every year, you are actually training your mind. In Sanatan Dharma we have a plethora of options. You can choose your favourite deity, source of faith as per your wish. The beauty of Sanatan Dharma is that no one can compel you. You are responsible for your own actions and are required to follow your own Conscience at all times. We have the most beautiful life possible, genuinely happy from the inside. Our festivals are the backbone of our society. We worship pure nature, ie the Samudra Sea on Narali pournima, the Mountains on Govardhan puja, the Sun on Makar sankranti or Ratha saptami, Dawn and Dusk on Chatt puja, the Moon on Kojagiri pournima etc. We worship our Rivers, Sarasvati, Ganga, Yamuna, Narmada etc as our mother, we adore them. We worship animals with equal fervour eg Snakes on Naag Panchami, Bulls on Pola etc and plants eg Banyan tree on Vat Savitri. We worship human like deities ie the embodiments of the three Gun, Satva Vishnu-Laxmi, Raja Brahmadev- Sarasvati, Tama Shankar-Parvati with the rest of the pantheon. We even worship Mathematics with the same devotion, the Shri yantra and the other yantra are complex geometry. We revere sound, light, vibrations, energy. We recognise Divinity embedded in every aspect of creation. We worship Intelligence because we intend to recognise that same Consciousness inside us.

In my blog I have mentioned a few stotra, mantra, sukta which can be taken up as a regular practice. This practice helps still the mind. If the mind is still, you are more Aware, more focussed on the Real. I have written briefly about several including the Amrit sukta, Shri Sukta, Purush Sukta, Mahamrutyunjai mantra, Gayatri mantra, Guru stotra, Teekshna Damshtra Bhairavashtakam, Chakshushi mantra, Navavarna mantra etc. And referred to several books like the Ved, Upanishad, Vijnyan Bhairav Tantra, Ramayan, Mahabharat, Devi Mahatmya etc. All mantra (except the Ajapa mantra and Om) are generally linked to a ray from the Eternal, ie a deity, an Aware Intelligent Consciousness. Eventually all merge into the same Eternal Advaita. It is so elegant.

I have written on Soham, the Ajapa mantra which my Satguru ‘gave’ to all his disciples, the easiest option. It gives control over the Mind, slowly and steadily with every breath you take. You gently train your mind to become aware of the most natural rhythm in the world, the rhythm of your own breath.

Now for some specific dos and don’ts for women in general life. Two events in life are very stressful for women, the menstrual phase of the monthly cycle and the pregnancy.

I wrote a detailed post here on the restrictions during the menstrual phase of the monthly cycle, do go through it.

Next, during pregnancy, there are mantras and stotras which you can recite or listen for your and your baby’s well being during this time. Here your body is doing enormous amount of work. The astral bodies of the mother and child are highly intertwined.

  • So doing any sort of practice where you channelise mantra with your breath while sitting on the asan is not advisable. ie you can recite the Gayatri 3 times with your daily puja routine but do not sit on your asan and do a 108 jaap of the mantra with the breath. Or you can mentally recite Soham to relax your mind, but do not sit on your Asan for targeted 108 Soham sadhana.
  • Then eclipses. If there are any eclipses visible in your town when you are pregnant, you must be very alert. Best would be to sit in front of your puja ghar/ altar and read something eg the Bhagvat Gita or recite or listen to mantra and stotra while the eclipse is on.
  • The Sutak time. In case there is a physical death in your close family ie this is the paternal family or after marriage husband’s paternal side of the family for married women, then from the day of the death till the pindadana on the 13th day, the dimensions of the spirits and humans, ie the Pitrulok and Martyalok are interconnected. This affects everyone in the family. If this event occurs in the same house you live in, try to keep away from the Anteyshti related activities as much as possible. A pregnant woman should not go for condolence visits to relatives or friend’s families, her husband can go if it is necessary.
  • The Natak time. Similarly if a new baby is born in your close family, then from the birth to the name ceremony day, again the dimensions are interconnected as the soul gets settled in his new life. This too is an intense time on the energy levels. A pregnant woman can see this new baby born in her family on the day of its Naamkaran sanskar.

Ideally a woman should stick to the daily pujas till the baby is 6 months old at least. Do not attempt Anushthans or other targeted practice during this time. This is the time when the baby is still absorbing your energy, ie breast feeding, and you are also working hard. So first focus on what the baby needs and on rebuilding your strength. After you do the Annaprashan Sanskar for the baby, if you feel up to it you can increase the intensity of your spiritual practice.

www

For men, the life is interconnected with the Gayatri, as every boy above the age of 6yrs is entitled to the Yajnopaveet Sanskar. This means wearing the Yajnopaveet sutra for a life time and doing Sandhya Vandanam, ie Gayatri puja three times a day. Ask your father or paternal relatives for any restrictions or dos and don’ts as this often varies from family to family. If your parents have not done the Yajnopaveet Sanskar for you but you really want to do the Gayatri mantra in a formal manner then you can do a simple intention on an auspicious Sunday, consider the rising Sun as your Guru and start. Do this only if you really feel and your conscience agrees with it. Never do anything against the Antaratma, the inner voice. At the very least you can recite this mantra even once a day when you do your daily puja.

Generally for major Anushthans, if there is a Sutak or Natak period in your close family then you will temporarily stop your Anushthans till this period is on.

Then there are several dos and dont’s which vary from family to family. This is mostly linked to the culture and the family deities. eg in my family we never wear black colored clothes, as the family deity does not like it. So you will have to ask the elders in your paternal family or husband’s paternal family for any such typical things.

www

The only requirement for a follower of Sanatan Dharma is that you have faith/ Shraddha in something. This can be in an external source, there are so many options. Or if you prefer, you can put your faith in your own Divinity, ie directly focus on the Eternal, the Advaita that you yourself are. Do not compare yourself with other’s. Don’t ever think that someone is doing so much and you are doing so little. This concept does not exist in Sanatan Dharma. Each one of us is an unique individual, but all linked to the same eternal foundation. We, the followers of Sanatan Dharma, adore Pure Intelligence in every way possible. Every route is acceptable, it only depends on the practitioner’s inclination and conscience.

    Hello maam,
The nature of studying and work I do involves touching /checking sick people/patients 7 days a week.
There has been so many times in the past I have done what I have thought as ‘ targeted anushtan’ in the past where I have followed dietary restriction ,familial interaction conduct, timing and discipline etc but it was and will continue to be difficult for me to stop touching random people at my study/workplace as I will require to touch the sick on a daily basis.
Also it would be practically impossible for me to take off for many days from work to do a specific pooja ( considering even one day is uphill task),,😀
But I feel happy and content doing my anushtan Pooja and I do so fairly regularly and intent to continue as it’s part and parcel of my life.
    Please guide.

    Hello ma’am,
It is almost impossible to abstain from shaking hands…..either your friends will feel bad or, in professional world, people will consider it ego…

Also I wanted to ask, is it normal if you feel detached or disinterested to mantra after some time? Its been more than year I started…around 2lac repeats so for…but sometimes I feel detached

Shouldn’t this detachment be only for material world?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
these restrictions are only during the Anushthan days. am sure 0.00001% people do anushthans these days so its not a big deal for regular householders.

      I have written this somewhere.
Mantra too is a part of the ‘creation’, eventually it too will be discarded. But that happens only at very subtle levels of sadhana.
      Dont overthink.

Thank you so much; very informative – clears most of the common doubts. Request one clarification – sometimes after the jaap, when I get involved with other activities of life, the jaap continues in my mind, Also my jaap times vary i.e. it is not fixed for a particular time of the day. Is it ok ?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
If you are doing a specific jaap then at least stick to one time in the day. it will help.
But if you cannot then too its ok. Just be sincere about it.
Obviously if you are doing jaap the mantra will stick in your head throughout the day. The mind has accepted its rhythm.
I have mentioned this, in some Soham post, the jaap will expand beyond the jaap time, beyond Jagruti, beyond Swapna, beyond Sushupti till it takes u firmly into the Turiya.

    Hi Tejaswiniji

The Rahu-Ketu separation of 180 degrees or 7 houses is maintained in all charts, or is there a possibility in calculating the DC, the two graha separation can deviate from the 180 degrees, and fall in the same house as well?

I have seen this in a sample chart. I got confused on how to analyse. Could this be because of incorrect birth time ?

    Thanks

      Hi there
For beginner level stick the basic D1. 30 deg of the zodiac is divided into 12 rashis in sequence, simplest math.
In the higher level charts the division of the circle of the zodiac is different. Eg D9, the zodiac is divided into 108 arc-segments of 13deg 20min. the Rashi own these arcs in specific sequences.
      Jyotish is complex math.
The position the planet will remain the same in the zodiac but its allotment to the Rashi will vary in the different DC. And yes you can have Rahu Ketu allotted to the same Rashi in certain DC.

    Hi Tejaswiniji

I forgot ask this in my earlier comment. The days of the week are structured according to the modern day Gregorian calendar.

In our religious practices, we typically associate a particular Devta or Graha with the day of the week, Saturday for Hanuman, Friday for Devi etc.

When we follow Hindu calendar for Thithis, how do we make the above association for the day of the week with the deities? Is it just symbolism , a practice to induce the right intent before starting a ritual ?

    Thanks

      Hi there
      Our panchang has 5 things
Vaar – solar day or weekday, Ravivar to Shanivar. Their planetary associations are obvious.
Deities are several as per the several texts, but commonly,
Sunday – Vishnu, Narayan, Aditya etc
      Monday – Shankar
Tuesday – Ugra forms of deities like Devi, Ganapati, Maruti etc
      Wednesday – Vishnu
      Thursday – Guru
Friday – Saumya forms of Devi
      Saturday – Maruti, Bhairav etc

Tithi – lunar day. The tithis too have their own deities.
      (S1) Brahma
      (S2) Agni
      (S3) Virinchi
      (S4) Vishnu
      (S5) Gauri
      (S6) Ganesh
      (S7) Yam
      (S8) Sarpa
      (S9) Chandrama
      (S10) Kartikeya
      (S11) Surya
      (S12) Indra
      (S13) Mahendra
      (S14) Vaasava
      (P) Naaga
      (K1) Durga
      (K2) Danddhar
      (K3) Shiv
      (K4) Vishnu
      (K5) Hari
      (K6) Ravi
      (K7) Kama
      (K8) Shankar
      (K9) Kalaa-dhara
      (K10) Yam
      (K11) Chandrama
      (K12) Vishnu
      (13) Kama
      (K14) Shiv
      (A) Pitr

Karan and Yog have associated deities.
Nakshatra also have their own nakshatra devata

We do not use the Georgian calendar for anything except office work.

Thanks for the clarification of both the questions.

I just noticed the Vaar mentioned in the panchang.

Probably because it coincides with the Gregorian days of week, I never noticed it, or treated it as a distinct feature. 🙂

Thank you for yet another brilliant article! Is there any link between the vaar deity & the natural inclination towards the favorite deity, for a native?

And another random question on marakesh & the physical death timing… for someone undergoing dasha periods of 2nd & 7th lords (MD & AD) with mangal transiting 8th house of birth chart (along with moon)…. could that also indicate release from physical bindings for a sadhak doing intense sadhana, apart from physical death? Is saturn’s transit over the asc sign a necessary condition for this combo?

Many thanks for the guidance as always 🙏

      3. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
first check the general longevity, if the allotted time span is nearing its end then these other things will fine tune physical death

for Moksh, ie jivan mukti, i have seen only the charts of my Guru, his birth and the day he met his Guru, ie the day he said that he achieved it all. its just one chart so cannot generalise.
anyways to predict when someone will attain Moksh! i cannot do it.

Thank you ji for the response! the native is believed to be going through the 3rd quarter of the predicted life span. If it’s not the final ‘physical’ physical death, perhaps it’s a ‘death’ like situation? (since you have mentioned in your posts that this type of combination comes 3 times in a life span & hence the question)… saturn the asc lord (also the 2nd house lord) would be transiting the 2nd house!

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
      Yes.
mantra siddhi related activities will require u to work really hard on tht mantra. This will then b counted as the necessary karmic repayment.
Wht is mantra? Manah tarayati iti.

Btw modern science is now attempting to reach our ancient wisdom. Search on psychosomatic origin of disease. All disease originates in the mind. Mantras treat the root cause of disease in the mind itself.

      Sanatan Dharma is very subtle.

    Hi Tejaswiniji,

Are there typical signs that we are over-doing it? It is easy to get so consumed- like in your example with the individual doing the Navavaran mantra- we may not even realize the negative impact. It is extremely difficult to realize that the mind has gone unstable.

I have had a challenging year in regards to my personal life. With coronavirus and working from home/less socializing outside, I have had alot of time to devote to spiritual practices, and honestly it has been life-changing! But it never feels like enough. Never a burden, but more a needy/anxiety type feeling of must do more and I have so much to rebalance. What should we look for to determine if we perhaps need to tone it down?

Also, when you say having conscious control, do you mean control of the energy or of the mantra by mantra siddhi? Can you please elaborate?

I look forward to your articles every week.Thank you for another wonderful article and your guidance!

      Hi there
do your daily pujas of your kul-devata etc.
do a 108 repeats of your mantra sitting on your asan. this can be once, twice or max thrice a day. you have to keep a gap of 8hrs between these sessions.
and if you feel like it during the day, do soham with your breath as and when you think of it
or listen to stotra etc if you have time.
      this much is enough.
if you go beyond this, you will have to change your lifestyle to a more satvik one else the energies will not be able to settle safely into yourself.

‘control’ is always used in the context of your own ‘Mind’.

    Hello Tejaswini ji!

Your blog has greatly inspired me and nudged me towards the right path, I’ll be forever grateful to you for that. I’ve been an atheist almost all my life but recently developed very staunch belief in astrology and god (Must be my ketu mahadasha haha).

Convinced by your posts I took up spiritual practice, considered Vishnu my guru and stared Soham Japa. After a few days, I had some paranormal experiences which scared me a lot. I stopped everything. Some time passed, one day while reading about Vishnu, came across one of his mantra (Om namo bhagvate Vasudevaya) which attracted me a lot and I started chanting it and also did dhyan using it. Again, I had some paranormal experiences. I read Vigyan bhairav tantra recently and was planning on doing soham dhyan again.

My question is should I continue doing dhyan or should I seek a guru and stop till then.

    Thank You.

If u were doing nothing at all then suddenly starting with something will definitely give a “paranormal” experience as things suddenly open.
Keep doing the mantra u r drawn to and put complete faith in the Guru ie in ur case Bhagwan Vishnu. Also remember tht his wife Devi Laxmi is then the Gurupatni, u will have to offer ur respect to her too. She will ease things out.

    1. 5 Mukhi Rudraksha for Vishakha Moon – to remove blockages from Vishuddhi Chakra – advisable? If so, do you know a trusted person? And what does the Rudraaksha actually do? Scientic studies?

    2. 7 Mukhi Rudraksha for Purva Bhadrapad Moon – anahata Chakra – advisable?

    3. Can a birth chart reveal which city/town a being is destined to be? – If so, how does one go about to find such a place? For instance a Uttara Bhadrapada is connected to water bodies, a Jyesth is connected to forests etc.

Does this mean all 4 planets are weak? And there is a possiblity of death during these Mahadashas/antardasha?

    5. What is the D40 (Dual Sign) chart and what happens where there’s a Sun Moon Conjunct?

    6. 32 forms of Ganesha – are they associated with every Nakshatra? And when we go to pray – what pooja must we perform?

I have about 4 charts with Venus retrograde, one in capricorn, two in gemini and one in libra.
Though the sign/ nakshatra placement was different,
All four of them ( 3 guys and 1 girl) had huge similarities with respect to relationship issues.
    1) all 4 had unrealistic expectations from relationship
    2) flirtatious nature
    3) spend thrift nature for self and stinginess with partner/ partners
    4) lack of appreciation for anything which was not self created.
Of course these were broad parameters and and there are other similarities I found in these charts relationship related.

There was a time I didn’t feel like eating coz of huge upsurge of vairagya feelings, but I forced myself against my will of not eating, and be part of world, participate otherwise who ll raise my kids! I didn’t know my chance would be lost, I was afraid because I didn’t know anything until I read your blog.

I know i was choosing a crime against me or my children. I don’t have those intense feelings anymore but there is a intense feeling of deprivation in me all time. I am now regular householder who is not anywhere professionally or spiritually. I can cry when I remember what I lost.

Thanks mam, please keep writing as much as your karma allows. It’s a bright shining light🙏🏻

      Hi there

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2018/09/26/fatalistic-astrology/

there is always a choice, so choose properly.

and there is never time or in your case no inclination.

eg in my personal life, i do daily pujas, my sadhana, go to office, its a high level post so i have to give it my 100%, also take care of my family, i cook all the food in my house, i have several servants but my kitchen is my own. i write this blog, plus read the books i want to, do my abhyas. i also travel, engage in my hobbies, trek etc. there will never be time for anything unless i seize the opportunity

in your case if you are not inclined for anything, you will regret the missed opportunities later in life. mind not being interested in anything means ketu afflicted moon/mercury. do some remedies for these, change your lifestyle a bit. stop pampering your mind and its emotions so much, do your karma in whatever role you are in.
performing ones karma is the greatest swadharma. that too done with pure heart will take u onwards on your spiritual path.

        Namaste,

I’m doing srisuktha recital 3times in morning , 3 times in the evening..for the last 1.3 yrs..
I tried doing it 5times , not possible,it takes 6min for 15 shlokas.. I can’t do it faster than this.

There are strange things happening with me, everyone who was supporting me is either separted from me , or dead ..

Electric items are getting destroyed, even the 3 computers which I had are dead one after other .. even after repairing n updated hardware their performance is not useful..

Southwest corner of the newly built house has developed cracking , west side of the house is full of plastering cracks , the best jaquar taps are leaking , water connection of bathroom taps often getting spoilt.tv , cd player, ups ,washing machine ,mixer grinder , these things get into trouble one after other..
Big fights happen over petty matters which disturbs the house atmosphere..

Most of electrical items only get spoilt..
Lights n fan in the southwest room gets burnt often..these are recent phenomena..

Whenever I go near someone else I feel the negative vibration from that person , no matter how good the person is perceived in society, I do not feel that vibe…I can only sense his evil side, later on that devilish nature of that person is coming true ..
when i showed this to my friends with examples, They’re afraid of these things n stop communicatimg with me now..

Most of the intuitive feelings are becoming true..
Money probs are on the rise
        Is there a connection ??

Is it wrong for me to recite Sri suktham..?

9H ven, aqua asc, moonketu 1stH..

        Thank you..

        Hi there
you think that shri sukta is doing this to you!
and Shri is prosperity on all possible levels.

more likely its stopping more damage from occuring.
if you do not have that level faith in Shri, do not do Her sukta.
whatever intention/feeling you recite a mantra with, it gets magnified and reflected back to you.

with what combinations you have shared, best would be to consult your regular astrologer.
i do not do readings anymore.

        Hi Mam…

Mercury in Moola Nakshatra…does this mean Ketu afflicted Mercury ..?

If yes..what does one do for remedy .?

        Love and Regards 🙂

        Dear Mam,

If it is my karma to suffer, does trying to stop suffering with remedies, is it not messing with natural course of things? What is the fine line when we should or should not do remedies.

For example: in my cousin’s marriage, some renowned pandit prayed and made the rains stop. It made things cordial but I am sure it is not right for others dependent on rains.

You are right mam, I find flaws in every action and I am mostly not inclined to do anything. I have mercury afflicted by ketu in 2nd house and moon in 8th. Does it mean, lack of surrender to karma or does it mean faulty thinking. I can not pray to god to release my pain, it does feel not right.

Your blog made me understand why and what I am, and THANKS from depth of my heart for this beautiful knowledge.

        Regards

      5. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
If you are injured, what is the logical course of action?
decide for yourself, its nothing to do with me,.
and doing the remedies requires effort. doing mantra, or dana is ‘work’. this effort counts as the karmic rebalancing activity.
and not every one can do the necessary remedies. i have seen this several times. despite asking clients to do the simplest things they do not or cannot do them.

the most irritating line i read on “spiritual blogs” is “surrender to the lotus feet of so and so”…. it is the worst thought process as it takes away your ability to do karma. and if you do not “act” then you are no better than an animal. we are humans because we posses the ability to “act”.
Even Shri Krishna in his Bhagvat Gita tells us to act as per our Dharma.

    Respected Madam,
Thank you. Reading your posts brings me so much peace and calm. Sincerely thank you with folded hands Madam. I feel like sharing some of my journey here, I have suffered from mental health issues due to traumatic incidents in my past. I was harassed and bullied a lot, and I have trouble letting go, though I know that is the only way ahead. And I feel that the self realization is the only path ahead…. i have started my spiritual practice in the past year, and I thank you a lot Madam, because so many of your posts have been really really helpful.

My question is : There are just so many thoughts and emotions (anxiety, fear , and anger related to past) going on that even when I sit for my practice, these keep bothering me. During these difficult days, I listen to stotras as I find it difficult to do my spiritual practice.

Thus I have trouble getting into a spiritual routine. At the same time, there are days where I feel happy that I have done well.

Could you guide me a little Madam? I am already grateful to you for helping me through your posts, and would really appreciate your valuable guidance. Many of your posts are healing, and a reply from you would really be valuable for me and many other readers.

    Sincere thanks,

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
listening to a stotra too is a spiritual practice.
do whatever suits your lifestyle and your mindset but do something every day for 2 mins at least.
if you feel burdened reduce it.
even getting up in the morning and doing a simple namaskar to the Sun, 5 secs daily, is enough to be a ‘routine’

        Respected Madam,
Thanks so much for this reply. Thanks so much. Will definitely follow this madam. I actually want to do more, and when I am not able to do so, I feel really guilty and I felt bad about myself that I have neither moved on from my past and I have let my past memories haunt me again. I humbly and sincerely aspire to progress spiritually (Please forgive me if I am not expressing myself correctly). Finding your blog is a blessing Madam. Thank you a million times, after reading your posts, I was so moved, and when my tears came out, I felt light and pure.

I feel like sharing here : Because of my experiences, I have had to take psychological help, and psychologists have told me that I have post traumatic stress disorder, because of the repeated traumatic events. They told me that concentrating can be an issue for me, and they told me that some damage was permanent. Now , however, I believe that the “self” can overcome any psychological definitions for disorders. So for me spiritual practice is really crucial.

Hence, the guilt that I am not able to progress spiritually as much as I would have wanted to. For example, there are days I can sit for an hour and do my mantra jaap, and I feel energized. But, I can’t repeat the same success regularly. This is my problem.

        Sincere regards and Thanks madam.

    Namaste ji,

    After reading https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/04/13/use-your-mercury/

I am curious to hear your thoughts on Mercury in the below placement.

D1 – Mercury in the 4th House (Capricorn) (Graha aspects – Jupiter)
D9 – Mercury (&Venus) in 6th House (Aries) (Graha aspects – Sun, Saturn, Ketu)

    Thank you

      Hi there
one planet does not make much sense like this,
      but libra asc
      9th 12th ruler in 4th –
as both rulers he will do well in the 4th, auspicious
(possibly with the Sun? midnight birth? read that post i wrote on this)

in the D9 too he seems to be ok, 6th house works well for him,

    Namaste,

    Thanks for the reply …

I just have one intention while reciting it , that’s to clear my mind of every rubbish ,n keep it clean..
    That’s it ..

It has become a routine now …even in utterly bad condition I’d sit on the side walk recite Sri suktham for atleast one time morning n evening…

Even if I don’t do , the stotram keeps on repeating whole day in my mind .

If n when I scold someone , I think of it n say sorry to other person … previously I never use to say sorry…
Now a days no ego or prestige issue crops up in mind . .

As u said may be more harmful events of my life is getting avoided..

    One last question ..

Is it necessary to recite Gayatri first for 3, 11, or 21 times before chanting Sri suktham..
    Or
Only Sri suktham is enough ..

    Thank you..

    Maam..
A doubt… Some people say that a well placed 4 th Lord in 4 th house is good for spouse career( coz it’s 10 places away from 7th)
Today’s times almost all men and women work . ( ie salaried jobs )
In that situation does this dictum still hold good ( applying desh kaal patra) ?
Won’t the planet placed in 4 th house if being the 4 th Lord aspect 10 th house of native itself?
Hence influence on natives own career far greater than spouse career?
Or does it apply in charts of housewives and house husbands alone?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
that is a slightly wrong way of understanding it,

a well placed 4th lord in 4th house is going to benefit you in the first place. and you will benefit from your mother, residence, landed property, gains from your enemies, profession of your spouse, your inlaws esp your father in law, etc etc etc. and if these people have to give you benefits naturally first they have to benefit.. only then can they give you the benefit that your chart says that you are going to get.
that is how the logic works.
a bit convoluted but i hope intelligible

your chart will always primarily benefit you and none but you.
it might trigger things for other people if they are the source from which you will benefit

but here too the other individuals horoscope matters a lot. eg if your husband has a damaged 10 house, your 4th house can help a bit but then it would prefer giving you your due 4th gains from the other characters who have a corresponding powerful house.
eg in this case if your mother has a powerful 5th house, you will get ur 4th house things from your mother and not the husbands profession.

go thru your sample charts and see how this applies in life

Thank you for lucid explanation maam. I do have my aunts chart 4 th Lord venus in 4 th house,
Her husbands career took a fantastic jump after marriage and so did her in-laws finances.( She’s a homemaker. )
Plus she inherited maternal agricultural lands. Her 4 th Lord dasha by her own admission was her best dasha.
Hence was wondering what aspects would be influenced by the placement.

Is the budh mantra in this the remedy of afflicted mercury?
Or can I continue with soham jaap and it will slowly work on my afflicted planetary energies.

    Dearest Tejaswiniji,

Thank you for this useful post🙏🏻 I loved it♥️

Two questions – 1) When I am chanting a beej mantra 108 times, do I end with Om each of the 108 times? Or do I end with Om only after the 108th time?

    2) Pitru paksh is going on. Activities like marriage, buying a new house, etc is not done in this period. Can a Navagraha homa or a Ganapati homa be done during this time, especially if a birthday (as per Nakshatra) falls during this period?

Am most grateful to you and for this treasure of a blog🙏🏻

    Lots of love and gratitude

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
start and end the entire set or repeats with Om
a “set” can be a single recital upto 108 repeats

      no,
only tarpan allowed now, its the Mahaalya
you cannot even give a basic coconut bali in front of your deities
