How to judge a planet in your chart

Last Updated on May 20, 2022 by astrologerbydefault

I am putting this up as consolidated post so that you can get a glimpse of the various techniques that are used in analysing charts. I get several questions on this, so this practical post. You can use techniques like these to gain more information on how the planets in your chart work.

I will use the birth details of Aleister Crowley, 12th Oct 1875, 11: 42pm, Leamington Spa, Britain. He is dead and has a reasonably well-known life, happening on several levels, so is a good study subject. In this, let’s examine the power of Jupiter.

First the basic birth chart

Birth chart Aliester Crowley

Jupiter is the lord of the 6th and 9th houses.

This fact sets the tone for the entire reading. Here the 6th house is his Mool trikon sign. So though he is a natural benefic, he cannot be considered to be totally auspicious for the Cancer ascendant. As ruler of the 6th, he controls debts, enemies, diseases, servitude, etc which are generally responsible for turbulence in life.

As the ruler of the 9th he is in control of the luck, blessings, support of peers and patrons, religion, philosophical foundations etc. It is a conducive environment for Jupiter as he is the owner of the natural 9th sign. Every planet connected to the 9th house gives favourable results. But here we must factor in the dual ownership of the 6th house before coming to conclusions about Jupiter.

The 6th house is vacant nor aspected by any other planet. The 9th has Rahu and Moon in it and is aspected by Saturn from the 7th house and Sun from the 3rd house. So there are several influences modifying Jupiter’s environment ie, Pisces sign here. So the results that the 9th can give will be improved by the presence of Moon here, he is the ascendant lord himself in a very favourable house. Though Rahu will add his typical overreaching behaviour, still the 9th house can give good results with these two planets.

You can go into more depth by analysing the nakshatra which make up these two houses. The nakshatras in the 6th house are not hosting any planets. But the 9th house has Moon in Poorvabhadrapada and Rahu in Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra. You can add more insights using their attributes in respect to these planets.

Jupiter is placed in the 4th house.

So he will be modifying the environment of the 4th house presented by Libra sign by adding his keywords of philosophy, luck, mediation, hope, benevolence etc to it. He will also add some energy of the 6th and 9th houses to the 4th house results.

Venus is the owner of Libra and considers Jupiter as a neutral. But Jupiter considers Venus as an enemy as per the natural tendency for relationships. But as per the concept of temporary relationships a planet is enemies with other planets placed in the same house. So Venus in this chart, considers Jupiter as an ‘enemy’ and Jupiter considers Venus as a ‘great enemy’. Jupiter is placed in the sign of his great enemy and with this great enemy, thus is not comfortable. Thus the attributes of the 4th house,  Libra sign and Jupiter will also seem uncomfortable to the overall personality and be a cause of friction in life.

Jupiter is conjunct Mercury and Venus. In this, Mercury has won the planetary war, graha yuddha and dominates over the other two. So Mercury has a comparatively larger say over the results expressed by Libra/ 4th house.

As Jupiter is conjunct Venus and Mercury, he will naturally influence both these planets and the houses they are in charge of in the chart to some extent.

Jupiter is aspecting 8th 10th and 12th houses.

Jupiter, the 6th lord, aspecting these important houses, ensured that Crowley was miserable, did not receive social recognition of the positive sort, was infamous, without money, without social standing etc in life. Also it is possible that the so-called occult experiments he performed caused him more trauma than is publicly known. And I think that his death too was by unnatural reasons, caused by enemies of some sort. As the 9th lord, Jupiter aspecting these houses, did give him insights into the working of the occult and the mysterious. Plus helped him make his Thoth deck, write books, develop new philosophies and a cult. So there was something positive. All in all a mixed bag of results from his aspects over these critical houses.

Jupiter is in Swati Nakshatra.

The attributes of this lunar mansion will influence the results linked to Jupiter. Jupiter will work through the energy filter that Swati is and affect Crowley especially at the subconscious and astral levels. Generally Jupiter functions reasonably well in Swati and grant a sense of balance, adjustment, potential for spiritual, esoteric, religious activities, development of philosophy etc.

Now if we see the birth Moon, he is in Uttarabhadrapada nakshatra. Using the Janma navtara chakra, we see that Swati lies in the ‘Mitra’ group. So the things that Jupiter represented must have seemed friendly to Crowley’s mind. He would have got some significant gains from friends or from unknown people and especially when he were out of his homeland, ie while travelling etc.

If we draw the Ashtapadmadala chakra, we see that Swati is at point no. 17 in the chakra. A very basic interpretation would be that Jupiter is lying on the Durgantar boundary with his energy moving inwards. So in some way or the other, the energies, activities, people and achievements represented by Jupiter, helped enhance Crowley’s personality, nourished his individual soul. And these keywords of Jupiter were expressed by Crowley in a rather private manner, only his close associates knew what he was really upto here.

Jupiter is neither retrograde nor combust nor exalted nor debilitated etc. If any of these conditions would have existed we would have added their modifying results.

Jupiter matures at the age of 16yrs but here his maturity is being held back by Mercury till the age of 32yrs. Planetary results are more comprehensible and useful after maturity so Crowley would have been better able to use the power of Jupiter after this age. Also the 4th house matures at the age of 40-45yrs, so the activities represented by this house would have become more clear after this age.

Now lets get into the numbers

crowley shadbala

Sthan Bala – Jupiter has a value of 223.53 which is quite high. He will give solid results, whatever they may be. Wrote a post on Sthan bala here.

Dig Bala – Jupiter has a neutral sort of value of 30.30, so he may not have always been able to convince Crowley to follow his directions, ie Crowley may have found it difficult to move in the direction indicated by Jupiter in life, may have had self-doubts or low expectations of success from these endeavours.

Kaala Bala is at 124.06. This is an average sort of a value, so the quantum of change that Jupiter would have brought in would have been an average sort. Neither too high nor too low. Kala is time. Time measures change. So Kala Bala is a measure of change caused by the graha.

Cheshta Bala at 11.43 is low compared to the others. So the effects brought in by Jupiter would be slower, expected results would be delayed, or weaker than expected.

Drig Bala is -4.43. This is a measure of how the planets aspect each other including the partial aspects which we do not consider in our regular readings. So here Jupiter is more aspected by malefics and naturally this will hit his capacity to do whatever good can. He is also the 9th lord so is responsible for good too in this chart. Another way of putting it is that the malefic results of Jupiter overall are going to be enhanced and the benefic results diminished.

Overall Shad Bala is at 419.46 which is quite low as compared to the other planets. As Jupiter is a functional malefic for this chart, 6th house lord, this is good in a way. But as the lord of the 9th house, having low power is a cause for concern.

Finally his Kashta phala is 40.96 which means that, Jupiter, despite everything, will in the final summary give Crowley pain and suffering.

crowley vimshopaka

Next let’s see the Vimshopak Bala for Jupiter

As Crowley was a regular person, we will use the Dasha varga. Here Jupiter has a score of 15 points. So Jupiter should give good results in his life. The advice for Crowley would have been to do come spiritual practice and channel the energy of Jupiter as the 9th house lord. (I had read somewhere that he lived in Bharat for a few years and had a guru here.)

Now the Avastha of Jupiter

crowley avastha

Jupiter in Sushupti – When a planet is in deep sleep state, the everything related to this planet seems to go by in a haze. One is not really aware of these things. But the plus point here is that the activities seem to be directed by some internal divine force for some greater good, which is not evident at the time of the action.

Jupiter in Yuva avastha – this is said to bring ‘prosperity’ to the house he owns, ie the 6th and 9th houses. So from his life, its quite clear that he had quite a happening life in terms of the keywords of these two houses. Crowley performed several activities linked to these houses. But if you analyse the quality of these activities, its evident that most of them resulted in suffering for him and some of them did not reach their logical conclusion while he was alive.

Jupiter in Kshudit Mudit avastha – Kshudhit means that Jupiter is in the sign of an enemy or conjunct an enemy or aspected by an enemy. Here he is all three. So its a very highly Kshudhit. The reading is that this makes a person miserable and also adversely affects the profession, social standing etc, especially as Jupiter aspects the 10th house.

Mudit literally means happy and in astrology it means that Jupiter is with or aspected by a benefic, I don’t think that this really applies to this Jupiter, but the software has given this. I think they are indicating Mercury or Venus to have some effect as natural benefics on Jupiter.

Jupiter in Khala avastha – Khala means wicked. being in the sign of an enemy is the Khala avastha. This avastha amplifies the effect of the above Kshudhit avastha.

Jupiter in Netrapani avashta – Netrapani means putting the hands over the eyes. ‘lustful and diseased’ is the classical interpretation and its obviously true in this case.

Next here is the Navamsha chart

Navamsha Aleister Crowley

If you are an advanced student, you should at least analyse the navamsha chart. Jupiter moves to the Aquarius sign navamsha. Aquarius is the 8th sign in the original birth chart, a Dusham sthan. Any planet in the navamsha of a dusham sthan is drawn into its vortex of turbulent energies. Any result that Jupiter gives will subtly have this turbulence of the 8th house at its core. Aquarius is the mool-trikon of Saturn, so gains more power because of this basic fact. Thus Jupiter is not comfortable here. If he were just the 6th lord this position would have been manageable. But as the 9th lord his ability to give pleasing results is further compromised.

(You can do a detailed analysis of the Navamsha using this post as a guideline)

The Ashtak varga

If you have read my earlier posts you can do a basic analysis using the Samudaya ashtakvarga like this.

crowley ashtakvarga

Jupiter has 5 points in Libra sign. Whatever Crowley wants to do with his Jupiter related things, he will get cooperation from the other forces operating in his life. So let’s open the Prastara ashtakvarga of Jupiter to know exactly what kind of forces. Look for the score, either 1 or 0, that the planet contributes to Jupiter’s score in Libra sign, ie the first column.

crowley prastara ashtakvarga jupiter

  • So the forces represented by Mars, Sun, Mercury, and the ascendant degree/ Lagna will support Jupiter in his positive endeavours in Crowley’s life.
  • And the forces represented by Saturn, Moon and Venus will be neutral or hinder the favourable activities connected to Jupiter in this chart.

Jupiter in the birth Moon chart

Jupiter is in the house counted 8th from the Moon in the birth Moon chart. He is in charge of the emotional component of all traumatic changes in identity that Crowley will undergo in his life. Also it is a clear case of the Shakata yog with its typical interpretation and its effects are evident in his life.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

In this post, we have seen very briefly how each technique contributes to an understanding of the planet in its own way. Now if we had to pull all of this together we would need a question from Crowley. Suppose he had asked, ‘what are the positives that I can expect from my Jupiter?’, then we would present a summary of these results oriented towards this specific question. We would then use the running Mahadasha and Antardasha at that time to give specific observations for using Jupiter’s energy. eg Jupiter would be more active in his life during the dasha periods related to the 6th 9th 4th houses. We would then use the transits to fine-tune these recommendations.

This is a very basic and cursory examination of a planet in a chart. Obviously there are so many things that could have been written, but then it would have been a needlessly long post. There are even more techniques, eg to find out important years, the time when certain events will occur etc. Jyotish has an absolute plethora of techniques. And these are important as they either reinforce your predictions or show that there are mitigating factors which will reduce the intensity of the predicted event.

Use this sort of analysis as a starting point for your own chart and your study subject’s charts. And do use Jyotish as a tool for answering questions rather than a random study. Eg how will this person’s married life be like?, or how will my professional life be like? etc. This will give you a focus point for your study and will be more helpful in learning the subject.

This was so nice, Ma’am. I have seen you analyzing Crowley’s chart so many times. It’s almost by heart now.

I have three questions in chart reading

    1. What if 9th lord planet sits in 9th lord, is vargottama, shadbala is above 550/600 but ashtakvarga in rasi and navamsha is the poorest! It’s mars and he has given only 2 points in aries (in navamsha 0). Below 25

How do we assess this planet and its benefic or negative effect in this contradiction. As per CS Patel Sir’s book, any vargottama planet and yogkarka is a waste if its poor and inauspicious in ashtakvarga.

    Please guide

    2. Is same navamsa lagna really beneficial when lord of lagna goes in 6th house. Lagna lord is powerful in chart or should we interpret it differently that enemies, issues debts will come during sun mahadasha but the native will be able to win, overcome it cus the soul or fighting spirit lies here? Mercury aspects from 12house. I don’t know how to interpret this

    3. Also in my personal chart I see ashtakvarga gets weaker in navamsha for most of houses and planets. That means its bad, no? I should follow rashi or navamsha?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
a weak ashtakvarga means that no other planet is supportive of this planet.

ashtakvarga is drawn for the rashi positions, ie the birth chart.
      its never for navamsha positions!

      1. niha Avatar
        niha

Oh okay. Saw few people interpreting it into navamsha also (these people predict based of navamsha for precision)

So no other planet supports the 9th lord means? What if its anyway the strongest on its own?

        Jupiter’s 7th aspect also won’t help??

        Hi there
you should consult your regular astrologer for personalised readings.

and if you wish to learn astrology then stop analysing your own chart all the time and study your sample charts for a broader perspective.

Thank you mam i’ve been following your blog for few months – i’ve to say your blog is really amazing & unique; it answers most of the rarely asked questions.

Like your every post you’ve explained things to a great detail.

Can ashtakvarg scores of a planet in a sign be solely used as a very simple measure for determining the auspicious/negative effects? Like it is said that even when a planet gets debilitated if it has more than 4 points where it’s placed (suppose in kendra/trikon) and also is a ruler of shubh bhav (func. benefic) it is easier to say the planet is tending towards giving positive effects. But what if it’s a func. malefic, debilitated but has high ashtakvarg points? Are the negative effects reduced?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
regarding the malefic or beneficial results of planets,
i find it very difficult to condense their results in these two words.
eg, suppose Jupiter for Libra asc, he is a class one malefic. and suppose he is powerful and placed and in the 11th house. 3rd and 6th lord in 11th ie another upchay house is a good position. one simple result is that this person should not offer to help others. if he does this, then the other person will use his help but never appreciate the help given, insult him and leave him etc. he wants to help others but this causes him problems.
now as we commonly understand, helping others is supposed to be good karma, but here he has to understand that help given, or positive intentions for others, benevolence, kindness etc is going to create problems for him.

Jyotish can be very subtle. so study your sample charts and enjoy its subtlety for yourself.

i have written very briefly on ashtakvarga, but its a full system in itself, do learn it, its very useful.
the summary of the ashtakvarga is the sarvachancha chakra, if you master this, then you do not need to use anything else for your predictions.
Our Rishis were unbelievable, they set up numerical systems for those who like numbers, chakras for those who comprehend patterns, and texts for those who prefer words. take your choice, all techniques will lead to the same conclusion.

again CS Patel has written a book on ashtakvarga, do go thru it, its invaluable

        Pranaam Madam,
Sincere thanks for this post, and it is amazingly true what you say about not offering to help others, for me Jupiter is a functional malefic, not surprisingly, whatever I did during his Mahadasha with the good intention of helping others actually turned into painful events, people that I was nice towards actually turned cruel later… And I could not be selfish during Jupiter Mahadasha, people just walked over me like that and I could not stand up for myself.

Your reply resonated so much with me and I just felt like sharing this. Thanks a million Madam for the post as well as the replies, which are as valuable as the post itself.

        Hi there
it is exactly as what Bhishma Pitamah says, ‘Dharma is very sookshma’. what is dharma for one need not be dharma for someone else.
to become a genuine Jyotishi, one must study sample charts, family and friends, normal people whom you can observe regularly, see how they act and react in situations,. Learning to be dispassionate and to observe. how energies change and change again, yet follow the same patterns
        it is actually very fascinating.

Maam, you have mentioned in posts about the moon chart gaining importance post late forties.
My doubt was this.. Random example chart:
    Aquarius ascendant and Taurus moon.
So post say 48yrs , persons taurus moon can be considered as first house. So then for him/ her should we take it as third Lord in first house.?
Previously for Aquarius ascendant otherwise it would be 6 th Lord in 4 th house if moon placed in taurus.
Do we even change house lordships by changing ascendant into that of moon sign post 48 yrs….
Or do we only read the number of houses away from moon, the other planets are situated in ?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
turn the birth chart around, till the birth Moon sign occupies the 1st house, obviously birth Moon will now occupy the 1st house in this orientation.
read this chart just as you would read your regular birth chart which has the asc degree in the 1st house.

now for people who have crossed their 48yrs, the results from this birth Moon chart will be more intensely felt.

the logic is that after this age the effect felt of the birth Moon chart will be more dominant than the effect of the asc degree chart.
try this with the charts of the senior members of your family, your grandparents or uncles/aunts beyond this age.

How would we take sign exchange into account in such scenarios? in given example, if Jupiter in navamsha is in aquarius and Saturn in pisces (in navamsha).
How to take such affect into account?

It’s always unsettling when you use the Crowley chart because I’m also a Cancer ascendant with Jupiter in the 4th house (although my Moon is Scorpio and Venus is in the 9th house in Pisces). So much water energy…..it’s made my life very difficult!

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
i like using this chart for several reasons, accurate time, asc deg exactly in the middle of the chart, happening life, so many life events, spy, bankruptcy, infamy, occult, addictions, possibly murdered, love affairs, etc etc. can be used as an example for so many events.
plus he made the Thoth deck which I absolutely love.
if there is any other such suitable example chart, i wont mind using it, but am too lazy to search around for another.

jupiter can give very good results in libra in 4th is quite good too.
exalted venus though badhak is in his own bhavat bhavam fr 11th house, so actively use your 11th house energies.
asc lord moon though debilitated is in the 5th house! its a potential fr raj yog if you work for it.
with this much power if you are saying tht your life is difficult then do reevaluate how you can use your potential. if you wont give it direction then it will cause problems, which is true for all energy!

      1. sobhimohanty Avatar

Actually it does feel like a lot of power, mainly intellectual but also spiritual. In fact it is the material that I am unable to balance. Which is why I made the shift to the social sector some years ago, it allows me to work directly with people on ground which I love, but it also allows me to use my analytic abilities to work in research and politics to make deeper changes. The more I do this however, the more I want to retreat somewhere and just stay alone with my books, thoughts and a little image of mahadev that I carry everywhere!! Maybe I will give all of this ten more years, and then retreat fully 🙂

      2. sobhimohanty Avatar

Also, how did you know about the rajayoga!!! Wow. Actually when I use jagannath hora software, my natal moon does indeed form a sort of rajayoga by aspecting my lagna in almost all divisional charts. You are amazing!

Excellent analysis although it’s still difficult for a beginner to comprehend completely. What I don’t understand is why did you feel that ” the so-called occult experiments he performed caused him more trauma than is publicly known”.

How can these experiences cause trauma?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
occult experiences will always cause some sort of trauma. always. only the degree will vary.
you are seeing more than what is usually known or accepted as reality.

eg you go to a house and see it burning. flames all around you and you see someone burning to death. you also have a sense of the burning heat and the suffocation.
then your host tells you that their ancestral house burnt to the ground on the same site 50yrs ago and a someone died in it. and you are seeing this ‘live’.
eg during the day someone tells you about a possible haunting, you simply listen. now your own ‘occult’ power is so high, that even listening to this is enough for you go to that site in your dream state, and whatever is haunting that place engages with you. you wake up drained.

as your psychic abilities increase, as you gain more power, you will see more intense things.
this not for everyone. and even for those few who engage in this, it is not a pleasant experience.

    Mam,

What happens when 8th lord is retrograde in third house?

8th is inlaws and 3rd is bhagya of 7th and also stands for father in law. The 3rd house is inimical for this planet though

The 2/8 axis is empty. What sort of future family one will get with retrograde planet?

    Some say
    – benefic retro becomes malefic
    – benefic going retro means it will do opposite of what it was suppose to. Eccentric people?

    Mam,

Why do as per bhavat bhavam concept one takes 10th house as the spouse (home). Wouldn’t 8th house act as (his/her education, food, wealth, family)?

10th should be mother-in-law, property, happiness etc.

Also mam why in Maharashtra, astrologers take father’s house to be 9th. Shouldn’t 4/10 axis be mom/dad (ultimately mom’s reflection and mirror will be her husband)

Thank you for this write up! I had a few follow-up questions:

    1) Can you please clarify if the degrees will also impact our assessments of the planets? For example, In this sample chart, Crowley has both mars and rahu at zero degrees. Can you please explain how to interpret this? I have seen mixed information regarding planets at zero degrees ( some saying no power and others saying this is strong).

    2) Can you also please clarify how to interpret a retrograde planet at zero degrees vs higher degrees?

    3) For the avastas, my software has three columns- age, alertness ( d1), and mood (d1). Would we just use the age column for our assessments?

    Many thanks!

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
the degrees are necessary for several things including
      1. Baal-adi avastha this is the age, the other avasthas are not dependant on the degree of the planet.
      2. graha yuddha or planetary war
      3. Allotment of nav amsha for the D9 chart, we see this chart always.
      4. in case you get into the other DC, obviously you will allot the planets as per their degrees

you will interpret the planet as per the technique you are using.

how can anyone even say that a planet at 0 deg has no effects ? every planet has an effect, even combusted planets who are technically evaporated by the Sun.

reg retrograde planets at 0 deg.
they will influence the 15deg zone before and forward as usual.
in case he crosses over into the previous sign then his results are more intense. so any planet at 0deg in transit should be analysed carefully.
their strength increases during retrogrades. they are in the re-viewing, re-doing, re-assessing, re-making, RE-mode, so whatever they do during this period will give very strong results. malefics will give stronger malefic results and benefics will give stronger benefic results.

      1. Hayls Avatar
        Hayls

        Thank you for explaining!

When you say “in case he crosses over into the previous sign, then his results are more intense”, do you mean if the retrograde planet goes from 0 degrees to 29? Or do you mean all retrograde planets at 0 deg as they will influence the 15deg zone before and forward?

Do you have any tips for analyzing birth planets at 0deg? I (oddly) have several family members with influential planets retrograde and at 0 degrees ( asc lord, moon, etc.) and have never been clear on what to make of this.

For complete amateurs like me why don’t you do a chart reading analysis from the very basic. Like from where to start, how to start etc. It would be interesting to learn baby steps from you in this aspect.

    Hi Mam,

For cancer ascendants, if ascendant lord, mars, and Saturn sits in 3rd house. Both ascendant lord (moon) and mars have high Kashta Bala but saturn has somehow little high ishta bala(34). Drig bala is negative for all three.
Mam for which planet do we should pooja or should we avoid these three?

My second question is not related to the article above but the general one. Rahu, Moon, and Mercury, these tripods control mind, please correct me if i am wrong. Now if all these are malefic/negative/weak etc. how one is expected to do good karma? it means that god itself wants that person is not able to think properly or do good deeds.

      Hi there
if this person has crossed 36yrs of life, things will go easier for him.
check which nakshatra and nav amsha these 3 go to, maybe this person can trigger the energy from there.
who has won the graha yuddha is also relevant here.
this person has a very logical mind, ability to work, and strength to carry on. should choose a profession or an outlet where this can be put to good use.
can even become an astrologer if the ongoing dasha is enabling.
you can always do puja for the asc lord and yogkarak here
for saturn – light a til oil deepak on saturday or do shani daan if you can.
      and gayatri is complusory.

‘god’ did not choose your chart. you yourslf chose it at the moment of your physical exit of your past birth.
and there is always potential, always
eg your chart it has a 9th house? so however afflicted it may look to be, it still has the chance to do good. a significant transit, a critical dasha, it can change everything in the space of a min.
no house/ sign/ planet ever goes 100% negative all the time.

Thanks a lot mam for taking time to answer.
Somehow, don’t how to check D9 or any naksahtra,or yudh. I am still learning form your articles and some google search.

Please don’t take it otherwise, but I don’t take your second answer as it is. From my personal experience, I had some difficult past since childhood, started pooja ( tulsi hanuman and durga chalisa) . But still, I am lucky that I got my parents who still supports me at this age. I only used to think about my troubles and saw the world in negative ways and despised poverty, greediness all around me.

After getting knocked down by repeated blows from moon and mars in their dasha, I did not know my worst was still to come . Otherwise I was planning my future college days in very much hope, just we imagined from movies we had watched (American Pie ,Superbad, kuch kuch hota hai), then came rahu mahadasha(12th house – my worst phase till date), one day at the Delhi railway station, I was annoyed about my shoes, which my parents refused to buy for me (they were costly and I already had one extra pair), suddenly my eyes went on the platform: there were 2 little girls & a boy picking food and eating. We all know how platforms were in those days. and they were barefooted. I can’t express how I felt that time. They must have their past karma, but why did God have to choose this for them , these kids should have been punished in their past lives themselves. Now, what future do these kids have, mostly begging, prostitution or crime. They are not privileged like us to do astrological remedial measures or pooja. They will further deep dive into hell. I too got experience of real hell. But the questions arise:

        – How come God granted Mosksha to Ravan and Kaurvas even their karmas we all know.? Isn’t it some charity or partiality done by the god. Then why would one inspired to follow Pandvas because they even did not get easy entry to swarg.

        – Why did god Vishnu created maya ? So humans get entrapped in the circle of money , power and sex. Even innocent God Shiv(moon) was implicated by God Vishnu(mercury) and later got him married.

Mine too Jupiter is in libra , i myself someday wants to become yogi and other days some actor, singer, IFS or army officer(for last two, age limit crossed a long time ago). I often laugh at myself someday I might become a character like “Raju” from the film Guide.

I apologise, if I used any misappropriate language by mistake, I am still not able express myself due to lack of knowledge. And I respect all gods because I am god-fearing.
        Regards,
        Shandilya

        Hi there
there is no ‘god’ as such in Sanatan Dharma,
everyone follows their own conscience, Antaratma, ie their own Swa-dharma and the law of Karma operates.
there is however Consciousness Intelligence Awareness, the Parabrahma, the Advaita, the Nirgun Brahma, and this is right within you.

in no post of mine have i ever written that the deities are the ultimate goal. in fact if you get the sagun moksh or krama mukti, its not the highest realization. you only realise yourself when you come out of the illusion that the deities represent. then it is the nirgun mukti or sadyo mukti

you choose your own path, this option to choose may be lesser or greater depending on again you yourself.
this sort of thinking is enabling, it helps one choose better ways, positive actions, routes which give peace and happiness.
there is always a chance for the better, always.

there is no vengeful ‘god’ who punishes or rewards, this sort of thinking is for the religions who fear their ‘gods’. and this is faulty thinking. it is a dead end, never think like this.

i remember several of my own lives, all shades from white to grey to very very black. from love to treachery. everyone experiences everything. only then he feels disenchanted with the Game and desires to know Himself.

today if you look at certain prominent politicians, they are the kings of this age. and what are they doing? they are destroying the very people they are supposed to rule over. what do you think is going to happen to them? they will not even get the life of a beggar on the streets. getting a human life is not easy.

i had once been to a place, outside India. there were several ghosts there begging me to set them free. they were in that hideous situation for a couple of thousand years now. i generally carry a bottle of Ganga-jal with me when i travel, which they wanted. but i did not in the least ‘feel’ that i had to sprinkle it there.
but then i had gone to another place, here i was directed to pour the Ganga-jal in a very typical location which i did without hesitation. that nation will soon return to its Sanatan roots.

i have written on the Devi who is Mahamaya. if you want to enjoy more of the Game do her worship. whatever mantra you do with her in mind, are reflected back to you giving you what you desire.
but if you want to realise yourself, you must do Soham.

Kauravs did not get Moksh. they got veer gati, ie went to Svarga.
and ‘god’ did not grant it to them. their own conviction that they were following their Dharma did this for them.

even today soldiers who die in the heat of battle, get Veergati, they go to Svarga. it is a very pure emotion, to die in battle for protection of the motherland, for protecting the people of the motherland. it is the highest emotion possible, the highest sacrifice, they get the fruit of this. enjoy Svarga for some time. then they are born in a family which provides them a foundation for growth.

however your questions can be answered by your own spiritual practice.
do your preferred stotra mantra they will always help, but if you feel it, do the Gayatri mantra too. with time, you will experience your own thing.

    Hello ma’am,

Sun (lagna lord), mercury and mars are in my 3rd house and saturn in 6th house (capricorn). Both saturn and mars aspecting each other. In short, short tempered and aggressive, even with my words.

    Spiritual practice is regular.

Since last few weeks whenever i get angry, i get headache. The forehead pains; facial muscles and area around jaw also pains. Is it because I am generating too much energy or something like that?

Sun (lagna lord) is debiliated in d-1, d-3, d-4, d-7 and d-9. Is this related to crown (sahasrara) chakra?

Hey, first of all thanks for your great posts. This is a blessing for those of us who are seeking the knowledge. My question is more on numerology and based on what I read in another one of your articles.

Alot of numerology is based on birth dates. Birth dates are linked to the gregorian calendar which some say is not accurate or in line with nature. Why should we use that as a starting point for numerology?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
what you follow, gains power over you.
in todays life, most people think of time in terms of the gregorian calender, eg ask anyone their birthdates, they will say 27th july 2000. they give power to these numbers, so the numbers gain power over them.
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/09/19/rahu-ketu-in-numerology/
i wrote this post for these people.

if you delink your mind with the gregorian and follow the vedic the patterns in your life will change to match your new mindset.

personally i do not use the gregorian calender.
my mind is tuned to the vedic calender, eg if you ask me my birth date, i will tell you the tithi, paksha, month and year. i feel uncomfortable if i have to use the gregorian names for months etc. i am more aware of time as per the vedic concepts.
eg today i know is ashadh, krishna chaturthi or the sankashthi chaturthi. and as its on a mangalvar, its an agaraki, very powerful for ganapati pujas.
and strange as it may seem, i have to think twice or look at my mobile to check the date in gregorian terms.
in my personal life, the numbers as per the gregorian calender do not have much effect. but the tithis, nakshatra, vaar, paksha, maas, samvatsara have measurable effect.

        Mam

Are there any consolidated articles on how to focus and results/effects of tithi, paksha, mass, samsatvara and vaar all together binds a soul’s functioning or tells more about it rather than chart and planet placement

I read and heard incomplete lectures available on these and also primary articles of you but it will be great if you can help understand what these panchang define for a native for life

Also mam since there is so less written about nakshatra’s due to time paucity at your end

Can you help with this doubt

While evaluating a planet firstly we see the rashi dispositor (for environment and attribute mix) then we see nakshatra dispositor of the planet or other way round

For example, my venus is in gemini and it’s in 11th house. Dispositor of venus is mars (mrigshaira)

        – Now, they say its trishadaya house and most malefic. I have read your articles as well mentioning venus is a very silent teacher. You won’t even realize and it will strike you.

        – Venus is the liquid or jaal tatva in your body. Also signifying love/ relations. Mars being its dispositor nakshatra (would be like parent of this planet who have dropped this venus to school; school being headed by mercury (gemini)

So this venus of mine will actually be fiery due to its building block and always in search of something. Typical nakshatra trait – thirsty and needs more. Gemini also gives dual nature/ multiplicity.

Being a female does it also mean my water content in the body is severely affected.

How to assess this mam? Can you help with the doubt or steps of assessment please.

Maam, I am not sure if this doubt has already been addressed on this blog..
I am little surprised that the concept of radha as consort of krishna is so popular as part of lore and worship and part of several ‘ hindu’ institutions’ spreading ‘
    Hinduism
As far as I know, the poet jayadeva created this concept of a longing lover to mimic the desire of soul to unite with the parabrahmaparabrahma ( at least that’s my thought on it)
That she finds no mention in any old text and first appeared in lore barely 900 years ago also seems to be lost on most.
More people today might greet each other with radhe radhe or worship radharani than actually read pages of Bhagavad Gita.
I was wondering how relevant is this whole radhe shyam cult when her whole existence might be fictional and that too of recent origin or am I one of the few who find it wierd?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
the books of Hinduism / Sanatan dharma are injected with nonsense so never read anything that is 1500 yrs or lesser in age. if you do then do so with extreme scepticism.

Similarly anyone claiming to be a ‘Guru’ must be evaluated on what he teaches.
does he give shuddha-jnyan, ie does he follow the Ved? or does he talk about miracles and use fancy words to impress?
be very very careful about giving your Shraddha to anyone.

this is the challenge of Kali-yug.
the name of the Parabrahma itself will be put in the mud so that people will feel ashamed to speak of it,
and this is exactly what is happening.
people feel ashamed to say that they follow the eternal foundation, ie the sanatan dharma.

Always stick to the original Mahabharat, Ramayan, ie the Itihas and The Ved (Ved, Brahmana, Aranyaka, Upanishad).
and do your Soham and Gayatri mantra. This much will take you to your Self.

the original Ramayan ends with the coronation of Raja Ram. the phala-shruti comes after that. Phalashruti is always at the end of a composition.
‘Ramasya ayanah iti Ramayan’, ‘journey of Ram’ ends with his Rajyabhishek.
Uttar kand is not a part of Valmiki Ramayan. Sri Ram does not abandon his pregnant wife! this is sheer nonsense produced by some later person who had the audacity to call his drivel ‘uttar ramayan’ in an attempt to besmirch the character of the Maryada Purushottam Bhagvan Ram.

Mahabharat has one additional Harivamsha section where the stories regarding Krishna are given by Vedvyas himself.
(this naturally means that the Shrimad Bhagvatam is also a fake narrative. the actual Shrimad Bhagvatam is now purposely called plain simple ‘Devi Puran’. Even the so called Brahmavaivarta puran is a later production, so should not be studied. If you read the puran-s do so very carefully. If in any case they contradict the ved or the Itihas, they should be immediately discarded.)

Sri Krishna was the ideal man of those times and also the Yogeshwar, the Avtar of Satva gun. in fact after he married Devi Rukmini, they two go for tapasya first and then set up their married life.
later he got more wives as per the custom of those times, where princesses were given in marriage to honor great kings or to seal treaties etc. there were 8 wives.
the story of him actually marrying the 16100 or so women he released from bondage is trash. ‘Pati’ also means protector not just husband.
then he spent his childhood in Gokul and with his Guru ie in Sandipani muni’s ashram. he was the son of Nanda, a chief, so must have gone to gurukul at the age of 6-7 yrs. He went to Mathura at the age of 12yrs or so. so where does the question of a pre-marital affair even come in?
we are talking about a 12yr old boy/ child here. all his stories in Harivamsha are the cute stories of a child who was the favourite of all the villagers. he would from time to time show his extraordinary nature but for the most part these are the stories of an adorable child.
That is why we call all small boys ‘Baal-Krishna’, we want them to have that cuteness that was his in his childhood, also we worship small boys on Kalashtami, dress them as Baal-Gopal. It is a very pure emotion.
(All girl children are likewise worshipped as Devi Durga during Navratri)

to my mind, jayadev’s creation is disgusting. the verses, the ideas and the composition are extremely disrespectful of the personality that Shri Krishna is. unfortunately once you read something, you cannot unread it. if this were possible i would want to wipe out the memory of this vulgarity from my mind.
there is no Radha anywhere in the Mahabharat or anywhere else. this creation is an attempt to besmirch the name of Yogeshwar (just like the similar attempt in Ramayan).
even the energy of this name feels odd. The root word is Radh रध् which basically means to hurt. राध is derived from this which generally means a gift. The meaning of this word has no connect with Satva Gun.

Now look at the names of Shri Krishna’s ashta-bharya, eight wives. They are so beautiful and pertinent.
Rukmini – this word is so graceful, so feminine. it means the ‘lady adorned with gold’, obviously a name for Devi Laxmi.
Satyabhama – means the lady having true lustre, ie with the aura of the Truth, satya. ie also Devi Laxmi
Jambavati – directly means the the lady who is made of gold. again Devi Laxmi
Kaldindi – the lady who is comparable to the Sun in color, again golden colored lady Devi Laxmi.
Mitravinda – the lady who has found the Sun within herself. again a reference to gold aura and power of Devi Laxmi
Satyaa – Again the lady with the power of Truth ie Devi Laxmi
Bhadraa – again is the lady made of gold, Devi Laxmi
Laxmanaa – the lady who is recognised by her aura or by her typical sign. This is a direct name of Devi Laxmi
These eight queens of Sri Krishna are in fact the power of Devi Laxmi, the essence of Satva gun. These names resonate with real power of the Satva Gun that the couple Vishnu-Laxmi represent.

Krishna is a Ugra avatar, see him like that. only then will you really understand what the Bhagvat Gita means.
he was responsible for removing Adharma decisively.
He was the one who upheld Dharma always, no exceptions.
he did it by all killing Adharmic kings of that age, from his own uncle Kans, then Jarasandha, Kalyavan, the Kaurav, the armies of Kauravs and Pandavs, all the kings, the Rathi/ Maharathi of that era were annihilated by him.
He even worshipped Shankar to specifically produce a son named Samba. Samba initiated the complete destruction of his own Yadav clan. no male yadavs survived that last internal war on Prabhas patan.

when you sit on your asan, you are face to face with the entire armies of the Kuru, you are supposed to fight your own Kurukshetra there. that is his energy ie he is the Sarvapraharanayudha, his name where he is ready to fight with all weapons in all ways at all times. The road to the Self is not easy, Krishna will pull you but you have to fight through yourself, be prepared for your own desires, your mind, your own pending karma to attack you on this route.

And not just you, several people find this cult weird. this cult is more towards the eastern and northern states.
we in the south, generally worship Krishna as Yogeshwar, ie alone. or with Devi Rukmini.
eg the main temple in Maharashtra is dedicated to Vitthal-Rukmini.
(land to the south of the Naramada is Dakshin Bharat, to its north is Uttar Bharat)

But again the essential freedom that Sanatan Dharma offers is available to everyone. Everyone is free to choose.
Choose to believe in what you may, choose to follow what you may.
The consequences of this choice are then governed by the law of Karma.

Whatever you fix your mind on, you will become that.
So fix your mind on something that is truly worthy of your Shraddha.

I always found this cult unpalatable, I have almost daily arguments with my sister who is an ardent follower of this cult :).

        This was enlightening, thanks.

Also which is a good source for reading Mahabharata / Ramayan? Gita Press ?

There are several versions of Ramayan,
        Tulsidas,
        Kamba Ramayan ( tamil)
Vyas Ramayan also called adhyatma Ramayan.

How do we typically determine the veracity of the Vedic literature we read ?

        – Gayatri

      4. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
the Gita press versions are very affordable and easily available. the sanskrit is simply translated into several local languages so it is very convenient. they are the best option.
the Ramayan by gita press does have the additional ‘uttar kand’ which is not written by Valmiki Rishi.

for Ramayan the Valmiki Ramayan is correct, ie it ends with Ramrajyabhishek.
later you can read whatever you want, but with this basic framework in your mind.

the condition for veracity is it should not ‘feel unpalatable’ . ie reading it must not go against your conscience.
eg i cannot even conceive that Maryada Purushottam Raja Ram would do the several injustices which are described in the uttar kand, killing a tapasvi, engaging in caste politics, letting go of his pregnant queen. neither can i believe that Rishi Valmiki would write such nonsense. compare the earlier sections, their power and sense of rightness to what is described in the uttar kand.

        second would be common sense.
eg the srimad bhagvatam which should be more correctly called a ‘krishna puran’ is said to be written by Vedvyas. now we know that Vedvyas wrote the mahabharat and he adequately covered all the stories related to Sri Krishna in it. he even added another chapter Harivamsha to fully address the topic. now if the ‘radha’ character was so pivotal it is logical to expect tht he would mention it in the main Itihas which he wrote himself? but there is no mention. the writing style /topics covered in the krishna puran is not what we would expect from Vedvyas. so i do not consider this to be a genuine puran. another point is that “Shri” anywhere means the Devi, so technically the Devi puran deserves the title “Shrimad”.
the puran are a confused lot, avoid them unless you are capable of shifting the gold from the chaff.

third would be to read more about it.
eg it is accepted by even those who follow the brahmavaivarta puran that it was composed less than 300yrs ago.
so why waste time reading this vulgar text?

finally anything in the Ved has to lead towards Advaita. no exception.
the vedanta are the pure essence of the Ved, aranyak, brahmana, they are exclusively about the Advaita.
if any one claims to write on ‘vedic literature’ and talks about Vishnu, Brahmadev, Shankar, their wives, or even the Devi Lalitatripursundari, ie the Prakruti then it is not vedic.
the ved go so much above, are so much subtler than the concept of Prakruti/ Purush itself.

and most importantly do your Soham / Gayatri mantra. it will elevate your own awareness/ consciousness to such levels that you will know for yourself.
all books are to encourage you to do your own sadhana.
you yourself are the Advaita. the more you do your sadhana, the more you will be aware of this.
with time you will ‘see’ these things directly from the akash

Do the evolution of the soul and the horoscope always go hand in hand? Means if a person’s soul is evolved then the horoscope combinations will always be there? And for someone with average horoscope will for sure have to wait, and if he makes correct choices, he will be born with “correct” combination enabling possibility of moksha?

I thank you very much for such valuable information and wisdom. Humbly and needy I implore you for a light. I have a tapasvi yoga between shani in virgo in 2nd house and venus-ketu in pisces in 8th house 8. But rahu is conjunct saturn (!!) in house 2. My life is very difficult, and I have done a lot to improve it. Perhaps because I have jupiter in cancer in purnavasu in the 12th house and I was born on a Thursday at jupiter time, I have sought divinity since my childhood (I am 42 years old). However I’m confused due to many tests. I would like to know (from your wisdom) what would be a suitable devata for me to worship and reduce the influences of the 2nd and 8th houses, or at least lessen them. I’m a western man but I have a lot of faith in the deities of Sanatan Dharma. I really appreciate it, and I really write with need. Blessings

      Hi there
The Sun. worshipping him will strengthen your personality on all levels.

do what you can as per your time constraint and physical abilities

      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/08/24/surya-namaskar-is-an-all-in-one-remedy/

and the gayatri mantra is compulsory for everyone above 6yrs of age

anyways everyone should worship the Sun, the external Sun is the same as the internal Sun that is visible at the third eye
i have written several posts on the Sun eg
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/03/01/real-nature-of-the-sun-and-the-deities/

do use the index page or the search bar to find the post you wish to read.

then Mars is the yogkarak for you, so anything related to him will also help you. wear the colors, fragrances, etc do the associated mantra etc on tuesdays etc.

rahu ketu are holding back the maturity of saturn and venus, so expect increase in stability as you cross your mid 40s.
