Rhrunanubandah, the debts you owe

Last Updated on May 20, 2022 by astrologerbydefault

Sanatan Dharm is not a religion, there is no book to follow here. You follow your own Conscience. You try to still your mind so that you can hear yourself clearly. You are your own judge. You yourself mete out to you the merit/ demerit for your own actions. You are your own blessing and you are your own prison. You are responsible for your own actions and enjoy/endure their consequences. This is the law of Karma operated by your own Antar-atma, inner Self, conscience. Enforcing the law of karma is the function of the 6th house, the Maha-dusham-sthana. The debts you owe. The Rhrunanubandah.

  • ऋण Rhrun is a Sanskrit word which means loans, the minuses in your life, debts, transgressions, out-going stuff, guilt, duty, anything which is due, flowing, stronghold, obligation, etc.
  • अनुबन्ध Anubandh means a continuance, consequence, result, attachment, obstacle, inseparable connection, intention, descendant, encumbrance, tie, design, linkage, part, course, motive, binding, contract, sequence, connecting link etc.

Combining these you can get a sense of the word Rhunanubandh. This obligatory tie links to you to the others around you. Life is not in isolation, we are interconnected to all the beings around us. Your father, mother, brother, sister, husband, wife, child, relatives boss, drivers, servants, neighbours, all the people you interact with are there because of these debts owed, these inseparable connections of duties and obligations. If you give Rs 10/- to a beggar, it is not due to the kindness of your heart, it is because you owed him that money. You keep a pet animal because you are obliged to him. You care for your garden because you owe this care to the plants who live there. There is no charity in the real sense, it is just re-balancing of the debts owed. Life exists because Rhunanubandah exists. When you clear off your Rhunanubandah, you attain Moksh, ie realise yourself as the non-dual Advaita.

If you have more auspicious combinations in your chart then you are here to enjoy the benefits of your past karma. In case there are more inauspicious combinations you are here to endure, experience more pain and repay your past outstanding karma. Generally most of us have a mix of good/bad combinations so go through cyclic pain/pleasure which we endure/enjoy.

The 6th house, its owner and the planets residing here indicate the quantum of this Rhun, also whom you have to pay it to. How and when you will be repaying it. If you do not pay it willingly when the time comes, you will be made to do so. Thus the ‘serve or suffer’ motif of this house. The 6th house also indicates the service which you get from others who owe you and the sufferings you inflict on others too.

The house opposite to the 6th house is the house of Vyay, व्यय, the 12th house. Vyay means expense, charge, dissipation, sacrifice of, disappearance, loss, decay etc. If you make your due payments in the 6th house then the karmic load on you as seen from the 12th house will decrease. If you refuse to honour these due obligations, then your person and your environment will suffer losses.

The sign occupying the 6th house is the basic environment in which you will be called on to pay your debts. eg Capricorn in the 6th will make you serve the society or serve through your profession, if Pisces then you serve in your astral and dream states, if Virgo then you serve in hospitals, counselling centres, etc. In this post I have discussed the effectiveness of the signs. The most benefic and sensitive signs are Virgo and Pisces. So if you have Aries or Libra as the ascendent then do take a few minutes to analyse the 6th house. If this is afflicted, it can subtly act to distort the positive predictions that you make.

The owner of the 6th house is the main agent of the Rhunanubandh. His position in your chart determines the nature of your pending Rhun. Whom do you owe? How will you be made to repay? What will be its impact on you? eg 6th lord in the 11th house, people whom you owe will come as your friends, collect their due and vanish from your life. eg 6th lord with the Moon, your mother will behave like your enemy and create adversarial situations for you. eg 6th lord in 3rd house, your debtors will come disguised as your cousins, they will extract their dues and put you in trouble. One tip, never take advice or help or start any business etc with the people represented by the 6th lord and his position in your chart. Even if a natural benefic like Venus or Jupiter owns the 6th house, his work will be to make you pay off your debts, he is the major functional malefic in your life. I get this quite often that Cancer and Libra ascendants must have a easier life because Jupiter owns the 6th house here. People think of Jupiter as a benefic always, which he is not (post here). In fact these two ascendants potentially have a more wearying life as the agent of hope, luck, expansion and benevolence is in charge of the house of debts. For Cancer he is the Rogesh and the Dharmesh both, in-charge of the serve/ suffer motif and the spark of auspicious luck.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

  • If you have no planets in the 6th house, the debts due are proportionately lesser, a easier life awaits you.
  • And if there are several planets here then you have several debtors waiting for you. You will be required to work more and if the rest of the horoscope is supportive there will be also be sufficient energy to do so. If the ascendant lord and birth Moon are powerful then this work can create several  avenues and opportunities for personal, professional and spiritual growth.
  • A powerful benefic in the 6th house can ensure that you gain from your enemies. But if he is weak then he can give you stress from the generally positive things in life which he stands for.
  • A malefic in the 6th will create active conflict with your enemies. You will be more aggressive, more proactive, more willing to engage with issues. If the rest of the horoscope is good then he will also supply the energy demolish your foes. You will have go through the Rhunanubandh, ie the binding debts, disease, enemies etc. But you will go out of your way to resolve the potentially stressful energies before they get a chance to really act against you. Later, in life, taking precautions and acting preemptively will become a habit. Malefics work well in the 6th house.

www

I have written several posts on the 6th house, but in the context of the Rhunanubandh let’s see the three top heavy duty planet placements. (planets in the 6th house post here)

The Birth Moon in the 6th house or conjunct the 6th lord. Debts related to emotions. The simplest way to put this is whoever you need love from, invariably gives you emotional pain and later exits from your life in a traumatic manner.  Emotional suffering, mental stress, astral issues, dreams, hauntings, illnesses with no real reason or solution, body weakness, lack of nutrition, lack of nurture, loneliness etc. The Moon and the 6th house/lord energies means your the mother was over-worked or felt that you, her child, to be an extra burden on her. The birth Moon is nurture, nutrition, needs, nature. As a child, your needs were never acknowledged nor fulfilled. You might have been ill, alone, haunted, ignored, unloved. Later, acknowledging that you actually have emotional needs is difficult and the source of your problems. But you will always have the moral courage to endure these disturbing times and the intelligence to rise above these issues. The solution to this Moon is to help others who are suffering pain due to emotional trauma. There are several ways where you can do this and also earn your livelihood eg law, astrology, medicine, psychiatry, nursing etc.

The ascendant lord himself in the 6th house or conjunct the 6th lord. The personality and the environment of is for this lifetime completely in the shadow of the 6th house. It can get very intense. You will be required to serve the Rhun-s you owe, all the time. Your personality, your surrounding environment and the interaction with these two will be governed by the subtle influence of the 6th house energies. A lot depends on the power of the ascendant lord, if he is strong then you can excel. Again choosing your profession well is the secret for managing this position.

Then the 5th lord, if in the 6th house or conjunct the 6th lord. The 5th lord is responsible for finishing off the debts owed. The 5th house is the house of your Poorva-janma-punya. The auspicious merits of your past lives which are available to you. If you wish, you can consciously use them through out your life. You make your luck using the energies of your 5th house. The owner of the 5th house is very important and in powerful horoscopes you will find that he is always placed well. He grants you creativity, genius and confidence which comes from an awareness of the internal link to the Divine. If he is linked to the 6th house/lord, then his potential is used for karmic service/ suffering requirements. Instead of propelling you onwards, now this graha can bring up even more karmic debts from your past lives. The realisation of the internal Divine is muted, confidence is reduced and the genius finds no creative outlet. It can get very stifling. (If you have any Virgo ascendants in your study sample do observe this part of their lives.) But ultimately it is the 5th lord, so however muted he may be, he still has the power of creative genius. So if you work intelligently, you can create several opportunities for yourself and rise. (Dharma trikon post here)

Rhunanubandh coming up for resolution is not a bad thing. If the personality, (the ascendent sign, ascendant lord and the birth Moon), is powerful enough you can convert this Rhunanubandh into opportunities. If so then you can actually benefit in some way. If not then life becomes a drudgery and there is suffering. The 6th house is also disillusionment, disappointments, misunderstandings, disturbances, difficulties etc. It helps you resolve past karma but also teaches you a lesson so that you do not repeat the same mistake again. So try to understand what this house is really upto in your chart. Anything that makes you come out of your comfort zone will initially create difficulties but eventually help you evolve. Sometimes the 6th can do this for you.

The 6th is a upchaya house. The positive meaning is if you complete your pendency then things will get better with age. But, if you ignore your enemies/ ripu, don’t address your diseases/ roga and leave your debts/ runa unpaid then the power of upchaya will multiply these things in your life. This is the secret of managing the three upchaya houses. Never ignore them and the things that they stand for. If you fail to address the issues raised by them from time to time, they will keep on multiplying them with the passage of time.

I am truly enjoying these Sunday morning posts!
Referring to your posts on the 6th house, planets placed there and mutual exchange of signs – If a chart had Mercury in Taurus and Venus in Gemini in 6th and 7th house respectively, should we analyse the ‘Rhun’ connected to both these planets ?
Or more towards the owner of the 6th house as it may be drawing more power from the mutual exchange?
Could I analyse this as a debt to partnerships and significations of the 7th house ?

      Hi there
More powerful planet will influence the other. But both will influence each other. Both will b linked to debts.

Wow, great post! this demystifies many confusions. Hope you’re doing well.

In continuation (and my urge to extract as much knowledge as I can from the learned), what about the double-negatives or the Vipareet raj-yogas? I’ve heard from astrologers that all the three dushtsthanas (6th, 8th, 12th) signify karmic debts of the past lives. How can we explain vipareet raj-yogas in context of past-life debts, and how do these positions ultimately benefit the native?

Edit: Also, if you could throw some light upon the type of debts 8th house and 12th house signify?

Only 6th house is linked to karmic debt. Read the Bruhat Parashar Hora shastra

Namaste, your writings have been a great source of illumination and comfort.
I have a question about a previous post of yours on checking nakshatra transit to predict a day. I faced a hurdle when the nakshatra in transit was the same as my janma nakshatra.
For example, if both are Ashwini, then what is the count? If it is 1, then the calculation of this formula:
(Count) X 7 / 9 does not lead to a remainder because it becomes a proper fraction.

    Hi Again,
I have few questions out of curiosity if you could address at your convenience. No Rush

1- How important is it to name your children based on Rashi. My name is based on Rashi but my kids aren’t.
2- Is there a age when one should stop looking at the birth chart. I know all the planets are done maturing at 48.
3- If you are away from your birth place for a very long time time, does it affect the chart. Few things in my chart are not relatable.

With all the different analyses of the grahas, was wondering which one of these would show the final word for the strongest/ weakest graha in the native’s chart..! Is it Ashtakvarga or Shadbala or Bhava bala? Or is it a combination of these? I see that some combust/ retrograde grahas showing strong numbers in at least one of the analyses mentioned above!

Or is it a totally different calculation all together? Are we looking at D1 chart for all these calculations?

      Hi there
Every figure expresses a different aspect of the planet, its power, its power to influence others, its power of expression expression, the perception of the expression, how others see you, how you see others, conscious/subconscious use of the power, there is so much more.
Its Jyotish! Do u think u can learn it definitively by reading a blog? Or even in one life?
You have to practice and observe ur study sample. Its a subject. You have to practice.
And I haven’t even started on the avasthas or the other DC.
I am a Jyotish fr several lifetimes now. Yet i find something new to observe with every chart. It is fascinating.

      Obviously D1 . What else?

      Hi there

there is always a cost, you spent 5mins, about 60 breaths reading my post on Rhunanubandh, its a rather high cost, i would think ..
all grace/Krupa belongs to the Advaita

Jyotish is vedang, it is very much a part of the Sanatan Dharma. it is the foundation of life.

once someone asked me to teach him astrology without the ‘religious’ touch. i told him to go away.
Sanatan Dharma is not a ‘religion’, have written a lot on this.

Maharishi Parashar was a Maharishi, a Atma-jnyani Mahapurush, a Guru. Do you think tht he was interested in the typical human questions on when will i get married and when will i get a job?
He taught his shishyas in the language of Jyotish, ultimately results in self-illumination.
if you have started learning Jyotish you have started on the route to the Advaita

one cannot learn Jyotish or any other form of divination, cards, runes etc without indirectly accepting the eternal foundation, Sanatan Dharma. divination is possible only if you accept tht you are energy. this is Sanatan Dharma.

We all talk about religion, i always think and read a lot, about these things, and try to learn and understand it, psychology, astrology, religion, spritiual life etc etc..

Can we define religion (any religion) in one single sentence that all the religion in this world can accept..??

        Pls share your views.

        Thanks.

      2. astrologerbydefault Avatar

        Hi there
I am not concerned about the concept of religion nor the religions in vogue at the present time. They are ephemeral, have a beginning and an end, and are essentially irrelevant.

I and every ‘Hindu’ follows the Sanatan Dharma, broadly understood as the ‘eternal foundation’. We are Sanatani and Dharmic.

      3. aashishghiya Avatar

        Respected mam..thanks for your reply..

In today’s time, every person understands religion with the color of spects he/she wears.

Even in our sanatan dharm/vedic dharm/hindu there and hundreds of sub divisions.

I have seen these sub divisions of religion and with the short knowledge they all assume that the other sub division of religion is different from theirs..they all are busy proving that one religion they follow is right.

But we hindu all are under one basic roof..called sanatan dharm/vedic dharm.

Sorry for elaborating and spending your precious time.

        Thanks..

        Hi there
Sanatan Dharma is the Advaita. This is the PhD level syllabus
rest all is junior grade stuff.

following a sect/ sub-divisions does not mean that you are following your true inner voice, conscience

Sanatan Dharma means that you have to follow your antaratma, and what is your antaratma essentially? Advaita. experiencing this reality takes a lot of efforts as you hav to remove all false notions from yourself.

i wrote a post on Bhagvat Gita 18-66, sarvadharma parityaja, maam ekam sharanam ….. in two parts. it is one of my most inspired posts. read it if you want to.

read the Bhashya on the Mandukya + Karika by Adishankarachrya. it is Clarity, every Hindu must read it, irrespective or whether they understand it or not. read it at least once in this life, read it like a story book, read it like a bedtime story, but read it. lay its seed in your self. at some time, in some life it will turn into the tree.

and for this specific point on one sect trying to prove itself right and disproving all the others, the answer has given by AdiShankaracharya himself in the Alatshanti prakaran shloks 3 4 and 5.

Many many thanks Tejaswini ji for enlightening us. Very profound knowledge you have ! I am trying to understand myself through your blogs. This blog is a god sent gift to me,

I am an Aquarius ascendant lady. My 6th house lord -Moon- is in 2nd house Pisces and aspected by shani in 5th house and Rahu (conjunct with Mangal) from 0th house Scorpio. I have constantly helped my both parents and 3 elder siblings one way or the other since 23 years of age. I am 46 and still single, now parents nomore – and no inheritance money from them…it all went to brother who is good at being sly and deceptive. My mother passed away due to cancer at the age of 29 (effect of Ketu in 4th house, as i read in your other post). I grieved her till the age of 42 (I had not read your blog about the dead souls that time). Then lost a huge amount of money while attempting to buy a house for me and also got into a painful and long litigation.

On the contrary to my generosity, my siblings have given me only rivalry and hidden jealousy due to my initially good career and no active support for arranged marriage. I came out of all this horrible and saddest phase perhaps due to Guru in my 1st house and Ravi Budh Shukra in Labhasthana whcih gave me enough to sustain till now.

Incidentally – I am running Moon mahadasha since 2016 and read your post about mahadasha of 6th house lord as well. I am hoping Mars Rahu Mahadasha at the end of my life will be relatively simple.

Was all this excruciating pain on all levels- material, physical, economical, social, spiritual – due to malefic 6th house Lord Moon which shows big karmic debt towards family ?

Is it not a good place for sacrificing , evolved, egalitarian , less money minded souls when you are dealing with hidden hostility and politics by money minded siblings?
I am starting gayatri and Shree sukta chanting from this week as mentioned in your blog posts… Please guide…apart from this – does wearing american diamond (cant afford genuine one) for venus or any special pooja help?

Looking eagerly for your reply. I will be indebted to receive one.

    Namaste Tejaswiniji,

If Venus is in 6th house (Mahadasha ongoing) and the 6th lord (Sun) is in the 7th house with Mars & Mercury, Moon is strong and Ascendant lord is good, does it mean this person should not get into any sort of legal agreements? Despite numerous attempts, this woman could not get married because of ill will sent by a female relative. I did read your posts on 6th house. And how the subtle effect of 6th house agents affect the 7th house partnerships. In Navamsha this woman has Libra Ascendant with Venus in 7th house. Does it mean this person has no scope for marriage? Also, how does the rhrunanubandah work out in such a case?

I recently read your post on birth and birth charts. It was absolutely awesome!!! I became aware of a long-standing pattern in my life as well as the lives of some relatives as I was reading this post. A very big thank-you with folded hands.

    Thanks ever so much.

Namaste and Respects to you madam,

I have tried come up with my own conclusions using the vast amount of info you have provided on your blog here is my attempt to figuring this out for my chart.

My 6th house is in Taurus. Shukra, 6th lord is in 4th house in Pisces. Jupiter(retro) in parivarthan with shukra in libra 11th

6th house Environment where I’m asked to repay debts – Taurus. It is an Earth sign so environment is grounded and more like home. Can also relate to the creative arts field.

My debtors – I owe anyone related to my current home, homeland, people connected to homeland, mother, maternal relatives, real estate?

When I cross reference I get many possible combinations in the area of karmic debt.

Repaying by caring for people in my home. Keeping the house organized, welcoming and happy ( Taurus and 4th house combo)

Helping people find their home through real estate? Helping people find their vehicles in the vehicles sales industry. Serving in the Creative arts field. I’m not doing anything remotely related to the above combinations ( except ofcourse the home part with my family and kids)

How do we pinpoint on which one is the one for us? Does this occur to us only with time and sadhana? I have been thinking about this question for so many years actually while going about my life not knowing if I’m doing what Im supposed to be doing.

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
you seem to have done quite a bit of self analysis. It is a good thing and will help you know yourself better.

things will always occur as per your chart, and what is happening around you is the best possible way of repaying your debts, and this changes with dasha and transits. ie the same house gives different results.
      eg
you take care of your personal house
you take up a job in the army or a goverment job, now shift into govt quarters and work fr protecting homeland
later your parents pass away with time and you have to now take care of your ancestral home and farmlands
you buy a vehicle and another house…
all this life story is linked to the 4th house. and triggered by the dashas and transits.

as far as debts are concerned, these people will come to your life when their time comes, take from you and leave.
eg my 6th house lord is in the 11th house, everyone whom i called a ‘friend’ would at some point of time hurt me and vanish for ever. when i was younger this would give me deep pain as knowing the theory and being able to accept it are two different things. (i do not have older siblings so i was spared tht pain at least). but as i grew older i realised that this would always happen so let it happen without expending my mental energy.
later i understood tht these small losses were nothing in comparision to the gains he was really bringing to me, but this came with age

at some point of time everyone thinks on why this is happening to me? some good some bad…then you start searching fr answers, you come across jyotish, then you start using the energies in your chart in a more aware manner and try to keep your mind balanced in all situations. thus you progress spiritually.

Many thanks for your response. Yes knowing the theory and accepting it when hard times come by and two very different things 🙂 I’m so grateful to have always believed in Jyotish to be true and the Universe helped me find you and your knowledge. Now I can understand why Jyotish is one of the ways to find your Higher Self.

    Namaskar Madam,

11th is bhavat bhavam from 6th. Does it too indicate runanubandhan ?

    Dear Mam

As usual, a very informative article by you. Thank you so much 🙏🙏

What would be debts of someone with Venus (6th and 11th lord) in ascendant (sagittarius)?
Will it be more with 6th/11th house theme (debt owed to maternal relatives, elder siblings, women in life)? Or would be based on first house(debt owed to self, own health ??)

    Thank you 🙏🙏

    Hi Ma’am,

In the context of Rhurn, how should we interpret a Combust 6th Lord ( by a debilitated sun) in the chart ?

    Hello Ma’am,

Thank you for such an insightful post, I love reading your blog because every new post surprises me by teaching something I had not thought of before.

I have an empty 6th house in Sagittarius and the lagnesh is in 12th house of vyaya. What more would you say about Jupiter as lord of 6th in 12th house in Gemini, does it mean that I will have loss from teachers or teachers will become enemies? I did read all your posts on 12th house and on Jupiter but did not understand the answer.

I do have a hard time finding the right mentors and even though I have a deep thirst of knowledge, in my career but I constantly field I do not know how to access knowledge. Would you also suggest some advice on how to learn to be more independent and make my own choices, which mantra jaap or puja or what changes in my own behaviour can help? I appreciate it so much. Thank you.
