Ved Vedanta and Om

Last Updated on December 1, 2021 by astrologerbydefault

There was a question “Is that the reason why the Veda samhitas have absence of some key devas and deities like Ganesh , Kali , mahavidyas , avatars of Vishnu. They have been lost or is it by design that rishis want us to explore them via indra?” and the answer became too long so posted it as a post.

A simple question and here is a longish answer.

www.psychologicallyastrology.com

First a bit about Sanskrit, the language in which all these texts, Ved, Vednant, Puran etc are written. One thing you have to remember is that Sanskrit, Devbhasha Samskrutam has no proper nouns. Am sure this sounds odd to you. So, a brief explanation,

Eg This sentence, ‘I am Samantha’. In this sentence ‘Samantha’ is a proper noun. It is a girl’s name and by this sentence you understand that I am a girl named ‘Samantha’. The word Samantha has no meaning in itself. Thus it is a proper noun. That is the end of it, no more meanings here.

Eg This sentence ‘I am Manish’. Here Manish is a Sanskrit word. It has a meaning in itself. Every word in Sanskrit has a meaning. Every word can be used as an adjective to describe something. If you think of ‘Manish’ as a noun, then you will understand that I am boy named ‘Manish’. But if you think of ‘Manish’ as an adjective then you will think that I am ‘someone who can be described as Manish’. There is a very big difference in these two levels of understanding. The Sanskrit word ‘Manish’ is a samas/ compound word, it is expanded to ‘Mansaya Isha iti Manish’. The simplest translation of this compound word would be ‘the Highest God of the Mind is Manish’. So our sentence ‘I am Manish’ completely changes its meaning depending on ‘Manish’ being understood as a proper noun or adjective.

Sanskrit is a highly esoteric language, it has layers of meanings. Understanding it depends on the capacity of the person who is reading it. Enlightened Rishi-s wrote these texts so there are secrets within secrets. That is why I always say never read Sanskrit books which have been translated into other languages. Or if you read them never believe that the translator has got the correct meaning of what the Rishi actually wrote. Best is to learn Sanskrit yourself.

Now if I write this same sentence in Sanskrit. ‘Aham Manishh asmi’, then here is what you get. ‘I, self-radiant, truth, certainly, surely, indeed, verily am the wisdom, reflection, intelligence, idea, desire, conception, power, master, strength, the Lord of the Mind.’ This is the power of Devbhasha Samskrutam. Now tell me can you ever trust ‘translations’ of Sanskrit texts?

So, if you can, think of our deities names as adjectives. Shankar means happiness. Shiva is the auspicious one. Ganapati means the energy which enters the individual souls and causes change. Nandi is intelligence. Laxmi is the one who has a recognisable sign. Sarasvati means the one who flows. Ganga is the one who moves very fast. Krishna means the unknowable blackness which pulls. Ram is happiness. Dev is radiance. Bhagwan is the one who has all auspicious qualities. Each of these Sanskrit words has several meanings in addition so every deity of Sanatan Dharma is more like a collection of attributes. The deities are not humans, even though we have got used to seeing them as humans. Deities in Hinduism are pure consciousness defined by some attributes. Their names are not proper nouns but are adjectives. Think of them in this way and you will get more insight into their real natures. (I wrote on meaning of the Navavarna mantra post here)

72b24bf92e7bc9c8aa0d41db475c6766

Now what is Sanatan Dharma/ Hinduism? To understand Dharma you have to understand the Shatdarshan shastra. I have written a post here on these 6 darshan shastra-s. It is not the work of one lifetime, but you carry on whatever you have learnt into your next lives.

Our ‘God’ is the highest conscious intelligence, non-dual, Paramatma, Parabrahma, Paramtattva, Nirvishesh Brahma, Advaita etc. This is the key deity of Sanatan Dharma, the only ‘deity’. You yourself are this Parabrahma. So essentially you worship your Self.

The Ved (Ved, Brahmana, Aranyaka, Upanishad),are the final authority for everything in our Dharma. The crowning glory of the Ved are the Vedanta, which deal with the Advaita in great clarity. The 10 major Upanishads with the Mandukya Upanishad occupy the highest place. The beautiful Mandukya has only 12 lines about the Om and the Paramtattva.

So now about Om. Om is also not the actual Paramtattva. Om is the nearest thing to it. Something like a ‘Moorti’ of the Advaita. A Moorti that you see in temples is made from stone, metal etc. But here you are required to visualise a Moorti made of conscious energy. Om is a Moorti of the Paramatma. You have to visualise Om with this intention and understanding. This is difficult for beginners on the spiritual path.

The course work has to suit to the student. You cannot teach a 1st std child, the syllabus of a PhD. Ved and the Vedanta is PhD course work.

In Sanatan Dharma the main texts are the Ved (Ved, Brahmana, Aranyaka, Upanishad), these have the highest validity, they are the source of everything. Then are the Itihas, histories, eg Ramayan, Mahabharat, the actual incidents are given in detail. They also have philosophy ie attaining Moksh and practical stuff like how to manage a kingdom (ever read the original Mahabharat or Ramayan, it is much much more than a simple story). These Itihas conform to the Vedic principles. Then we have the Puran-s. In these additional historical incidents are given, more philosophy, more practical stuff etc. And anything written here has to conform to the Vedic concepts and the broad outline of the Itihas. The 18 Puran-s written by Ved-Vyas are given more prominence in this category. And there are the several commentaries, Bhashya, treatises, practical work, more philosophy etc written on these texts by enlightened Guru-s like Adi Shankaracharya and others. This broadly is the corpus of texts available in Sanatan Dharma. Regular Hindus never read these texts, unfortunately.

All Shastra, all pujas, all yajnyas, all mantras are secretly hidden in the Ved. It is a huge huge repository of knowledge. eg the entire Shri Vidya which deals with the worship of the Devi Lalitatripursundari, the Maha-vidya-s etc is from the Ved. It is one of the many Vidya-s mentioned here. Another Vidya is the Chakshushi, I have written about it briefly in this post. All these Vidya-s will take you to the Parabrahma if used in the correct manner. Jyotish is also a Vidya.

These different texts describe the same Reality in different perspectives in different words which are suited to people of different mindsets. eg If you read the texts on Devi Lalita, it is given that the Devi just looked at her toe-nails and the 10 Vishnu-avatar-s manifested from here, did their work and again got reabsorbed in her. This is obviously different from what we popularly know about the Vishnu-avatar-s. In the Shiv Puran, there is a Shiv Gita which Bhagwan Shiv narrated to Shri Ram at Rameshwar before his war with Ravan. eg Bhagwat Gita, most people believe that this is the only Gita, the highest teaching. But if you open the Ishwar Gita, it is very similar to Bhagwat Gita. If you read the Shiv Gita, this is also similar and also has a Vishwaroop darshan. Then you read the Anu-gita which Krishna taught to Arjun after the war, and this is very different from the Bhagwat Gita which he taught first. There is a vast ocean of philosophy, spiritual practices, teachings, discourses in Sanatan Dharma. If you randomly read from here and there, you will get extremely confused.

In the past and even now, Dharma is facing a lot of challenges. The Dev-Asur Sangram, ie the constant war between radiant and dull energies is always on at different levels. It is still going on now and will always occur. Sometimes the Dev will have the upper hand and sometimes then Asur might seem to be winning.

There are numerous examples where our temples, libraries, universities and their custodian Brahmins were very viciously destroyed. The horror in Kashmir where specifically Tantra and its genuine practitioners were systematically wiped out over the last 500yrs or so. The oldest physical book of Valmiki Ramayan was burnt when the Britishers burnt the libraries in Kolkata about 200yrs ago. Tipu burnt ancient libraries, manuscripts and their custodian Brahmins in South India about 300yrs ago. More insidious was that the invaders injected nonsense in our books and are still doing it. People who do not follow Sanatan Dharma are writing translations of these texts with the express purpose of altering their meanings.

It is difficult to find authentic texts and more difficult to find a real Guru. Also we have forgotten our mother-tongue Sanskrit, thus are a highly confused directionless lot.

Back to Om. Vedanta clearly states the Om to be the Paramtattva. Focus on the Om and you will gain that realization. The Ved describe Om and how it has manifested the universe from itself. Om is the first vibration, the first movement. The main deities described are the 33 koti devata ie the 8 Vasu, 11 Rudra, 12 Aditya, Prajapati and Indra. They further create the universe and everything else in it. These are the backbone of the creation and they actually exist in our backbones, in the Sushumna nadi.

You create your own universe. This concept is also rather difficult for beginners to comprehend. I have put posts on using energy consciously, try doing some of these exercises to actually experience how you can create. Once you succeed at an ‘energy experiment’, your perception changes forever.

Indra as well as all the other Vedic deities are pure energy. They are not human figures. Now for the students who could not comprehend the highly esoteric Ved-s, more human looking deities was introduced in the Puran-s. All the energies were given human forms. Prakruti was given a Moorthi of the beautiful Devi Lalitatripursundari. The tri-Gun, Satva, Raja, Tama were given human forms so we have the Tri-dev etc. All these Puranic deities are also conscious energies, but described in more human terms so that we can relate to them more easily.

But every shloka, every stotra, every sukta in this vast ocean of Sanatan Dharma describes only the Advaita. This might be difficult for beginners to believe but eg. every one of the 1000 names in the Vishnu sahastranama are ultimately dedicated to the Parameshwar, from the first ‘Vishnu’ to the last ‘Sarvapraharanayudh’ all are linked to this Parabrahma. The Dasha-Mahavidyas are the energies of the 10 directions, the intelligence of space, their essential nature is also the Paramtattva (post here). Now open the Devi Atharvasheersha, She says ‘Aham Brahma swaroopini’ in the first line. If you open the Ganapati athavasheersha, it says that Ganapati is the ‘pratekshya tat tvam asi’ in the first line itself. ‘Tat tvam asi’ is a Mahvakya of the Ved. So all deities are essentially Parabrahma.

There is only one thing that is worthy of being known. That is Parabrahma and we do it through his Moorthi, Om. You are Om, I am Om, we worship Om and whatever we do or see is all Om. Eg In all stories/ allegories, you see that the Tri-dev are generally in Dhyan or in deep contemplation. Who are they doing Dhyan of? Who is the essential consciousness within them? In the Puran-s, it is mentioned that the Tri-dev did intense Sadhana to get to this position that they enjoy. Whose sadhana did they do? To become aware as ‘Indra’, 100 ashva-medh yajnyas are necessary, who are they dedicated to? So just think, to become aware as ‘Om’, what level of intensity will be necessary?

In our pantheon of deities and the humungous mass of stories/allegories, if you get into who was whose husband, whose wife, who was the father, who was the son, who came first and who came later, you will get very confused. The Ved say this same thing, the serious aspirant must focus on the ultimate reality, not on anything else.

You should not think of yourself as Indra or Vishnu or Shankar etc or any of the Vedic or Puranic deities. Think of yourself as Om, the Parabrahma. Try to explore and locate that Supreme consciousness within.

And finally to sum up this discussion.

Do what your Sat-Guru teaches you to do. Practice under the guidance of a Guru. Follow what he tells you. This is why the Sat-Guru in Sanatan Dharma is so essential. Without the blessings of the Guru you cannot do anything and cannot realise anything.

Eg if your Guru teaches you from the Bhagwat Gita of the Mahabharat. You will think of Shri Krishna as your adored deity. First as a Vishnu-avtar, then as you go deeper into him you will realise that the Gita talks about the Advaita. The real Krishna, who ‘pulls’ you inwards is the Advaita. The ‘unknowable blackness’ is again a negation of this created universe. Your Guru will help you experience this essential attribute of ‘Krishna’.

Eg if your Guru teaches you to worship Devi Lalitatripursundari. You will worship the Shri Chakra/Meru with mantras. Initially you might think that you are worshipping a beautiful Devi wearing red sari, jewellery, 4 hands etc. You might call her Mother, Maai, Aai, Mataji, Maiiyaa, etc but later you realise that her name Maa is most apt. I have written this post on this word ‘Maa’, it is a negation, essentially means ’No’. Her subtlest nature is a resounding negation of the creation you see around you. She is Advaita. This realisation will come at the highest levels of your sadhana.

Eg if your Guru teaches you Gayatri puja. You might think that you are worshipping a beautiful Devi with 5-faces etc with her Gayatri mantra. But later as the mantra pulls you inwards you realise that the ‘Savitra’ in the Gayatri mantra refers to the internal illumination. Your are worshipping your own Luminous Self. And this is the Advaita.

Eg if the Guru starts off with the pure Vedanta. This is a rare Guru and an equally rare student. You will then go directly to the Upanishad. He will teach you ‘na iti, na iti’, not this not this. Again the negation of the Maya of creation and the single pointed focus on the pure Om. Read about the Om, practice Om, experience Om and thus the Paramtattva whose Moorti Om is.

A Guru teaches what he has achieved, ie he can teach only what he has the ‘adhikar’ to teach. ie, a History teacher will teach History not Math and a 1st std teacher will not teach PhD students. If a Guru has practiced the Gayatri mantra he will guide you with the Gayatri mantra. If he visualises the Gayatri as a Devi in a red sari then he will teach you this same visualisation. If he has visualised the Gayatri as the Advaita then he will be able to guide you till this final destination. When you get blessings of a Sat-guru, the Atma-jnyani Mahapurush, the Jivan-mukt, ie the Parabrahma only then will you attain Moksh.

So choose your Guru very carefully. Guru is a force which pulls you towards your Self. And there are several pretenders who claim to have got enlightenment or claim to converse with the deities etc. Evaluate carefully before accepting someone as your Guru. If you do not have anyone around, try to follow some daily routine (post here on daily pujas). Get your own intention moving, desire to know your own reality. If you desire it, it will happen. When the student is ready the Guru will manifest.

So Dear Reader, this is a rather rambling answer to your question, see if it helps you in some way.

What a beautifully written answer. So many lines evoked so many different emotions in me. When I was sitting down to read vivekachudamani, so many times felt the difference when I was reading out the sanskrit lines and then English lines. The essence cannot and will not be captured in any other language. Am so glad I get to read what you write( albeit in English).

      Hi there
If i start writing in sanskrit, which I easily can, no one will b able to read or understand it.
Its my dream to do one more PhD in Sanskrit if i get time.
For better or worse english is here to stay.
Sanskrit is the most beautiful and most meaningful language ever. I adore it.

    Hello Tejaswiniji,

I recently stumbled across your blog and find myself reading it daily, learning about different subjects, and incorporating energy work and spiritual practices as best as I can in my daily life.

In your writings you have given a step by step guide on how should one learn Jyotish. Is it possible that you can provide if not a step by step guide, but general guidance on how does one study Sanatan Dharam. There is so much information out there and it is so difficult to determine what is credible and what is not. I am not sure if I will find a guru in this lifetime, but I would like to learn about Sanatan Dharam and walk my spiritual path as best as I can.

    Much thanks,
    Shivali

      Hi there
you cannot study the Sanatan Dharm, you have to experience it.
there are several routes you can follow, you can make the journey as complex or as simple as you desire. my Guru taught me the Vedanta. my favourite text is the Mandukya upanishad. just 12 lines but to experience this, a journey of maybe hundreds of life-times.

But even if you do not meet a living person as a Guru, it is alright.
      Guru is an internal process.
If you have heard of Mata Anandamayi, an enlightened Guru, a Jivan mukt Guru from Haridwar. She did not have a physical Guru herself, her internal Guru would guide her.
I have written several posts on what a Guru is, if you want to read use the index page. try to recognise the Guru within you.
And if you really feel that you need to think of someone as a Guru, then consider Adi-Shankarcharaya to be your Guru if this idea appeals to you internally.
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/04/28/jagat-guru-adi-shankaracharya/

I have written a post on a daily routine
      http://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/10/20/daily-pujas/
read it and see if you can do something from it.
but if you do choose to do something then remember it is a life-time commitment.
eg if you decide to recite the Gayatri then put full faith in it and do it. do not stop after a few days.
a daily routine is very important. practice something regularly and consistently. without practicing you will not experience. and experience is the foundation of Sanatan dharma.

just reading texts does not work. but if you feel like reading a text eg the Bhagwat Gita, read it and try to understand it. eg read one shlok everyday and try to think over it. once you complete the book, again start with the first shlok. it is in sanskrit so try to work out the meanings, use a dictionary eg http://spokensanskrit.org

The effects of these practices will not be evident immediately, you have to persevere and practice

Thank you much for this greatly insightful post!

As you have touched upon Mantras & vibrations, I was wondering if you could help with a situation that I am trying to make sense out of..

My ishta devata is Krishna & I have been chanting Krishna mantras like dwadasakshari, ashtakshari, Krishna beej mantra etc continuously for the last 3 months and within a couple of weeks, started feeling heavy pran movement in my head moving closer & closer to the para region & the bindu. It has been very heavy and was stressful in the beginning, slowly started to ease out the pressure but with full vibrations still heavily experienced.

Would you be kind enough to decipher and help me understand what’s happening please?

Thanks in advance for your precious insights & advice 🙏

      Hi there
i do not comment on personal practices but here are a few general things

      – doing several mantra at a time can get confusing at the energy levels
      – one mantra for jaap, this can be a longer one and one mantra for the Dhyan this is a short one as it has to be recited mentally with the breathing pattern.
      – then you need a asan to sit on, sit in a yogic posture, back neck head aligned, focus on 3rd eye point etc. and before sitting to wash up, change clothes etc.
i have written posts on all this. doing this helps you easily absorb the generated energy.
if you are doing serious practice then the diet, food you eat has to be monitored. eating tamasic foods will harm. (eg eating cheese made from milk of cows forced to give milk is also highly tamasic.)
      – if you are a woman then a break for the monthly cycle is a must.
      – you cannot eat food cooked by women on their cycle (most men get sensitive to this energy after some time of practice)

when you do any practice, you channelise your pran at the 3rd eye.
so you will feel the movemnt of pran in your body, head, etc.it will move, you will hear sounds lots of things will happen
but it should not be stressful for as long as 3-4 months.
you should re-check if you are missing something here
and finally light a diya/deep with the single intention that you get the solution to this, keep track of your dreams after this, you will get your answer.

Does itihas mean history? If so, did the characters of the Ramayan and Mahabharat actually walk on earth? Do Avatars mean that they came on earth and led a human life? This has been a pressing question for me. I remember reading somewhere on your blog that Aditya Hriday Stotra came from Sri Ram. Does it mean that the physical being Ram recited it or it came from the energy/adjective Ram? Sorry if this sounds foolish and redundant. I have always been confused about these aspects.

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
Itihas means history. Ram and Krishna etc all were historical figures. As per the Harivamsha parva of the Mahabharat, Ram was born in the 24th Mahayuga’s Treta yug. Krishna was born in the 28th Mahayug’s Dwapar yug.

Avatar-s are humans, but they have different abilities because of their conscious connect to the energy called Vishnu. Their awareness is on a very different level altogether. They are produced for very highly critical missions on the earth ie for the re-establishment of Dharma and the eradication of Adharma.

Aditya Hrudaya was narrated by Maharishi Agastya to Shri Ram when he was to face the armies of Ravan. After he heard it, he did a puja using it and went on to fight the war. This is history.

For the subtle thing on the energy level. Everyone has layers, eg everyone exists on 4 planes of existence. 3 are Jagrut, Swapna, Sushupati which are the domain of Mahamaya and we do different actions at these different levels. The 4th is the Turiya, where there is no duality, all is OM. If you meditate on the name Ram long enough you can get a Darshan of him. This will not be of the physical body but of the energy called Ram. Everything cannot be explained completely in words, you must practice something. Right now you are aware of the Jagrut level of existence. If you can expand your consciousness, these things will be more clear to you by your own experience.

I have this habit from maybe my late adolescence onwards to say a little prayer n fold my hands if I see a worm or snail or any animal run over under a tyre or under foot or go back hold the branch of a tree and say an apology in my head if I rush past it in a hurry etc. I agree it’s not the most usual habit to have ,but am comfortable with it. Recently a visiting elderly( supposed to be a religious person) saw me fold my hands in front of dead snail in the garden and chided me when I explained what I was doing and said I was doing a wasteful act. I personally don’t see anything wrong for praying for the soul of a dead snail
A soul is a soul after all. Only the temporary carriage( body) is different. If you can guide me on this…..

if you wish someone good or say a prayer, its positive energy always gets reflected back to you.
and if you feel like doing this prayer do it.
no prayer ever goes waste, every intention is fulfilled
this will help the soul that it was directed to and also help you.
personally i liked this, you are a genuinely kind person

Thank you very much Tejaswini ji! Greatly appreciate your immediate response to my query for help🙏

Yes, I do observe the necessary breaks required for ladies and i am a vegetarian, but onion & garlic still are part of the diet that i cook for the family. I don’t normally eat cheese, but use milk & buttermilk. And not sure of the source of these products (i mean the cows/farms used to produce these).

I started chanting as ‘Nitya japa’ taking the following 4 mantras 1. Ashtakshari 2. Dwadashakshari 3. Krishna beej mantra & 4. Om SriKrishna Sharanam mama:, one at a time for a long duration (no count kept as it is done as Nitya Japa while performing my duties), then automatically switch to the next one & keep the cycle.

Also do these mantras 108 times each during my puja time in dhyanam (sitting in asan)/after lighting a lamp.

I meant to do it out of love for Krishna as Nama japa and didn’t have intention of doing it as Mantras. Also chant Vishnu Sahasranamam, Hari Nama Keertan, Hanuman Chalisa etc daily including Lalita Sahasranamam on special occasions. And i get the heavy vibrations whatever I chant whenever.

First several nights, it was unable to sleep in the nights due to the vibrations (even in lying position) through the whole body and head. I feel by now a lot of ‘knots’ in my head are cleared/released/untied as the vibrations are free flowing most of the time and occasionally getting heavy and clearing by itself to a free flow. Feel a LOT lighter now as it goes, feeling that my ‘Chittha Shuddhi’ is in progress letting the vasanas burn through the pran movement & through the bindu ( i can clearly feel the movement).

As you suggested, I will try to look for an answer in my dreams after lighting the the lamp with the intention 🙏😊

Again thank you for your guidance and time🙏

I have written a lot on wht experiences you will start getting after you begin your spiritual practice..
the index page has links to all these.

There are going to be so very many things you will see and experience. Continue doing your Sadhana with single point focus. These things come and go and mostly divert u frm your practice.

If you do not feel negativity from these experiences then it’s ok. But if you ever feel negativity then u must request ur adored deity fr protection.

I was brought up in a household where these were strictly followed. And I believe in these traditions. But, can a woman having her periods mentally chant Om?
My understanding is there is no restriction in doing/ sending reiki during periods. I would like to know your opinion.

      Hi there
You can recite or listen to shloka/ stotra etc or do some simple mental om / soham .,
but no puja no dhyan no sitting on asan no going to temples no yogasan practice no suryanamaskar etc
ie do not do any activity which manipulates your pran during this time.

You can do reiki as you are using the energy of the symbols

I had an astrological query: Say, if Jupiter is debilitated in Capricorn with the Moon, but if Mars is in a Kendra, and Saturn is also aspecting it, and the house of debilitation is a Kona, can Jupiter be considered benefic?

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
Benefic/ malefic depends on the nature of the houses which a planet owns in the chart. I have written on functional roles as per the ascendants in a post. Do use the index page to locate it.
Eg fr Cancer asc or Libra asc Jupiter does not work as a full fledged benefic.
Also do not reduce the roles to one word without understanding. Calling them Malefic benefic exalted debilitated etc without understanding what kind of results they are capable of is not going to help your study.
Saturn aspecting Mars or Mars aspecting Saturn needs to b analysed in depth both kroor graha can aggravate each other’s natures.

        Namaste Tejaswiniji,

One question on benefic/ malefic. If Jupiter is a benefic in birth chart (Ascendant lord) but in Navamsha is a functional malefic, how does one analyse Jupiter?

On the other hand Venus is a functional malefic in birth chart, but is a benefic in Navamsha (considering the ascendant – Libra), how to analyse Venus?

My apologies if this question seems silly, but I have recently started learning astrology (thanks to you🙂).

        Thanks a lotđŸ™đŸ»

        Hi there
if you have recently started learning, i suggest you stick to the D 1 for some time before getting into the DC,
the functional natures for the graha are seen from the D1 primarily not the DC.
i have written 7 posts on the navamsha do go through them, use the index page.

        https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/03/14/navamsha-analysis-summary/
in this i have listed out 3 ways of analysing the D9, of these the (1) is most important analysis .

I came across your site when I was searching for rahu ketu 5/ 11 axis. What you have explained is what I have experienced and going through. I am kind of crazy and thirsty to be more correct for knowledge. Thank you for your giving this.nector of information to humanity. You will get punyam for this kind act. Please compile this to a book so it will pass to future generations as well.Thank you again.

Maam, as per each individual chart, each person has their own pitru karaka, matru karaka, bhatru karaka, putra karaka etc. So this means in a family the same person would be different with different individuals in that family depending on what planet signifies that karaka and how it is in their individual chart. For example: within the same family, a parent may have different equation with different children, depending on what are pitru or matru karaka in that respective child’s chart? Is it like that?

Namaste mam. Thanks again for another piece of insightful writing.

I had a off the topic query! If you don’t mind, would like ur comment on how rahu ketu node is significant in d-9?

I mean to say: how they affect different aspect of life when they move to different house n sign in d-9 from d-1!!

If you could give an example!

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there

i have written 7 posts on navamsha analysis, in these i have given such examples,
eg in this i have written about what happens in the exalted degrees, you can work out for rahu/ketu on these same lines.
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/10/09/exalted-planets-analysis-birth-chart-and-navamsha/

also read about rahu/ketu and their real natures, i have wrtten a lot on them.

eg Ketu in 5th D1 will make your real life, physical life like what i have written about in this posthttp://psychologicallyastrology.com/2019/09/17/rahu-ketu-analysis-if-placed-in-the-5-11-axis/

but if in the D9 suppose he gets in Scorpio in the 2nd house, then internally you will dislike being with your family, your birth and married family might also subconsciously dislike you, you might be denied deep family connects. you might get family inheritance but it will be of no use to you, you may desire to get into the occult, there may be potential for ghosts of your ancestors haunting you, there may be difficulty in investments, disinterest in spending time with family/friends etc.
this is the potential and will be triggered when you meet your most significant partner. this partner can be your son, husband, wife, deity etc anyone with whom you have tht deepest connect.

      Hi there
if you want to learn astrology, try to observe things happening to you and around you. then try to tally these events with your horoscope or the current planetary movemnets,
also do this for your study samples,
this practice will give you a very solid foundation in astrology
the planets are indicators to what is happening to you, they do not control you, they are here to help you decipher your own life, so learn about them and use them to live a more satisfied life.

    Hello Ma’am.

This question might be off topic but if you could please consider sharing your thoughts on. In general, we learn that sadhana, rituals, or philosophical ruminations hin general require a certain degree of time, effort and patience to gain progress and attain the evolution of soul. Practice, consistency, and dedication is the key to success and we are led to believe that spiritual progress is no different.

On a more practical level, this was alluded to by Aristotle, who argued that man’s interest in philosophical/religious questions tends to arise when a civilization is wealthy enough so that
some of its people are no longer required to dedicate all their time and efforts in trying to secure the resources necessary for their immediate survival. When money replaces barter, goods are given a universal value; this way of thinking is crucial for a discipline such as philosophy and religion, which aims to assess the essence of things in abstract terms.

Against this backdrop, what can impoverished people, say a labourer or wage worker, expect in terms of spiritual evolution, when their survival is at stake? Would they rather think with regard to dos and don’ts of spiritual life or what happens in the next birth as opposed to worrying about getting their next meal from? What if this struggle to make ends meet causes them to do many undharmic things that may deter their progress, for whatever compulsions? What if they happen to think about an animal at the time of their birth and end up developing related samskaras and, in effect, go back to square one.

In such cases, one hopes that God would make certain provisions for such souls who have more mundane things to worry about. If not, isn’t (pardon me for saying this) God elitist? Or am I missing something here?

      Hi there
Spiritual progress requires efforts which span not just several years but several lives.

Everyone has a source of faith. Even a labourer who is working on a construction site has some source of faith. He will pray sometimes maybe at diwali or chhat puja or at holi. This is all that he can do, and this much is enough for this life that he has chosen for himself.
But if a labourer performs adharmic activities to get money he will face the repercussions eventually. Eg if a poor person starts murdering others for their money he is going to accumulate negative karma. Just because he is poor does not mean that he can kill others.
We are used to seeing a single life. But if you are aware of multiple lives and the activities done through these you will realise that these people are in deprivation because of some negative karma that they are carrying.
And yes, negative karma can accumulate to such extent that these souls are then not allowed a new life. They exist in the Timir-andh etc. I think I wrote about this in a post on the Lok.

I have written about evolution of the soul as seen from the horoscope.
      https://psychologicallyastrology.com/2020/02/19/evolution-of-the-soul-and-the-horoscope/
Spiritual progress of the dedicated sort is not for everyone. there is no need. if someone wants to enjoy Maya, it is his choice. there is no one judging him for this.

Ancient Bharat was different. If we go back to about 2500 yrs in our Bharatiya society. There was a completely different scene back then. People had defined roles depending on the work they performed. People today have a wrong notion of the Varna system. In this the labourers, farmers, people who worked with their hands, physical labour etc were not required to do complicated pujas, they were supposed to work, whatever they had chosen for themselves. Similarly the Vaishyas and Kshatriyas did not have to do dedicated pujas for spiritual growth, they were supposed to do their allotted work. These three had to maintain the society. The complicated pujas and the teaching part was to be performed by the Brahmins who were not allowed to do anything else. They could not earn money. They could not charge money. They had to accept dakshina. Dakshina could be just a flower and a Namaskar. Jyotishis were also Brahmins, ie Daivednya Brahmins. It was a very hard life as you had to study study study throughout your life till you died, day and night, perform pujas, do sandhyas, personal pujas, very strict rules about everything
even their wives had their own set of very hard rules to live by. Every story in the Panchatantra starts with ‘there was a poor Brahmin who wanted some money for something’. These people had no life as such. They had to live within the temples. Smaller temples could support a few families, larger temples supported more families. But the proportion of Brahmins was very low, I think less than 1%. These genuine Brahmins are all dead now, killed in horrible ways by the invaders. Anyways
Back then, those who wanted to get into dedicated spiritual progress took Sanyas. They were not a part of the society. They could not remain here and do their personal spiritual activity. They would go away into their chosen ashram with their Guru and practice with singular focus. Or go to the forest and live there, do sadhana. Even today there are sadhus in the Himalaya who live exactly like this. They are the real dedicated Sadhak-s. And Bharat was fabulously rich back then, wealthy beyond anyone’s imagination. Even before the British entered about 300yrs ago, we contributed about 30% of the global GDP. So you can just imagine what our civilisation was back then at the times of our Rishi-s. Our temples and universities, most of them in ruins now, are silent evidences of this richness that was. Even today we are still the richest if you think in terms of faith, internal happiness, satisfaction, generosity, ethics, morals, values, family etc.

At the present times people are a mixed up lot. They want everything at once. They want to ‘do astrology’ ‘raise their kundalini’ go out at parties and discuss over cocktails how their ‘third eye opened’. It is not possible. If you genuinely want to take up spiritual practice you have to determinedly say no to certain things.

So to summarise, not everyone has the power or potential or inclination to take up dedicated spiritual practice.
About 90% of the human population does not do anything for their spiritual growth, yolo types.
Then most Hindus still do some daily pujas of their family deity.
Some aspirants try to do something extra like a personal mantra jaap daily.
The dedicated aspirant who tries to get beyond the Sagun-roop of the deity is rare.
And the one who progresses into the Nirgun-roop is even rarer as understanding the Vedanta requires the highest Vivek.
And the one who actually succeeds in finding Himself is the rarest of them all.
This dedicated spiritual path is not for everyone. It is a highly exclusive path.

Whatever happens to you is a fruit of your own past actions. If you performed positive karma you will get a life of ease. If you looted others, you will have to work as a labourer to repay what you took. If you do not perform positive actions now your future lives will be miserable. You are your own prisoner, judge and prison. This is the law of karma. Calling it ‘elitist’ is faulty logic.

And there is no ‘god’ in Sanatan Dharma, we all worship the Paramtattva, the internal consciousness. We worship Our Self.

Thinking that there is a ‘god’ as the Abhramic religions do, in my opinion, is escapism. Here you refuse to take responsibility for your actions and refuse to accept that what is happening to you is a result of your own actions. This does not lead to spiritual growth.

no one tells you to practice, ie no Guru will force you to practice, never. he might suggest something. but to do it or not is your personal decision. always your choice. And once you start on it with awareness there is no turning back. The illusions of Maya will stop being attractive to you and you will delve deeper into the Self. It may take lives but it will happen.
If you are at some level then know that you are here because you have started on this route several lives ago. You had the faith to stare at the blackness of your third eye and hope that something will flash here. You stayed at it for lives. And you are still at it.
It is not a random elite event that you have a life of relative ease and the sense to practice. You have worked very very hard for it, way more than the laborer working at the construction site.
When a Sadhak sits in Dhyan he is manipulating pran! finer than silk, invisible. and to manoeuvre it into the Brahmanadi! can you imagine the focus needed? if you make errors you will die and go insane for your next few lives.. the stakes are so high! ever seen a sadhak after he gets up from his Dhyan? its very hard work.
(eg someone i know, has been a policeman, a cobbler, a trader, a farmer in his recent past lives, worked like mad, paid off karma. so that he could get this one current life where he doesnt have to work, he is a sanyasi now)

Madame , I have gone through your articles around the importance of anteyasti , the importance of agni and the paths of devalok and pitri lok for the soul as the isa upanishad also says. My query is for certain individuals who don’t wish to marry as we may not want to get into that loop or have progeny or have a damaged seventh house, how does it end ? What is the print for all such individuals ? What about people who don’t have a mail progeny ? Do we need to enter grihastha ashtam necessarily as a choice and have progeny In case there is no one to do our ant karmas post our end of this cycle , your guidance will help in this as the point and the manner of exit becomes important. Is it then wise to go for a marriage despite a bad chart which may not support it.

    1. astrologerbydefault Avatar

      Hi there
I have no opinion on people getting married or not. Things happen as per the potential of the horoscope and it is ultimately a personal decision.

As a Jyotishi I can point out what will happen if you decide to get married. Also point out what can happen if you choose not to. The choice is the individual’s never the Jyotishi’s.

We get married for the sake of the society and family and ultimately because we want validation and want to be valued. Most people find this validation/value in their husband/wife. Rarely some of us find this validation/value in our adored deity. And very very rarely in our own Selves.

The 7th house is of partnerships, one-one relationships. I have mentioned this several times. It indicates your spiritual relationship with your own Self also. A horoscope bad for the material in the 7th can often be great for the spiritual. Classic examples are the Cancer ascendant people.

If you do not have sons (biological or adopted) to perform your body’s Anteyshiti after your physical death, the nearest male relative from your family will do it. This can be the father, brother, nephew, a grandson of your siblings etc. If this is not available then any male from your gotra can perform it.
