Saturn turns retrograde, 2019

Planets move around the Sun in at constant speed and in one constant forward motion. But when we see them from earth, they seem to go through various types of movements in the sky  Perspective! These movements are of eight types (as listed in the Suryasiddhant written by Mayadanav),

  1. Vikala – no movement, the planet seems to be stationary. This can be for hours or upto 5 days days depending on the planet. e.g Saturn seems to stop /stambhit, for about 5 days before he changes his apparent direction of motion while Mercury is stationary for just a few hours.
  2. Vakra – Retrograde, when the planet in the motion reverse to the usual forward motion and apparently moves backward into the zodiac. e.g. Saturn will turn retrograde on 30 April 2019 and Jupiter is retrograde now.
  3. Anuvakra – When a retrograde planet goes back into the previous sign continuing in its retrograde motion. Jupiter did this when he reversed direction and came back from Sagittarius to Scorpio in Apr 2019.
  4. Manda – forward motion but somewhat slower than usual
  5. Mandatara – forward motion and even slower than the previous Manda motion
  6. Sama – the planet has started accelerating in the forward motion
  7. Chara – is faster than the previous Sama
  8. Atichara – when a planet in forward motion enters the entering next sign really very fast, e.g. Jupiter entered Scorpio in 2018 Nov and he moved really fast and entered Sagittarius in April 2019, in just 6 months.

Saturn turns retrograde, 2019

Retrograde planets are linked to your past life lessons, those few lessons which you revise again and again. So their energies are more directed inwards towards the self rather than outwards. Rahu/Ketu are always in perpetual retrograde motion they rewind and replay the experiences of your life thus you extract the maximum learning from them. They are are very intense on the psychological and inner spiritual levels. Now to evaluate the results of any planet in retrograde motion in your birth chart, first evaluate,

  1. the basic nature of this planet, e.g his natural karakatva, Saturn is your work and gains,
  2. then which signs/ houses of the zodiac he naturally rules, Capricorn/10th house and Aquarius/11th house,
  3. then in your personal birth chart, where he is placed, the aspects that he has on others and the aspects he is under, is he retrograde, debilitated, combust or with malefics/benefics etc. This is the routine analysis which you already know by now.

Now here are a few rules for specifically analysing retrograde planets in your birth chart.

  1. If the retrograde planet is exalted in your birth chart, he will not give his results in the physical life, his energies will be completely directed inwards. This is good from the spiritual point of view as this would mean you have finally internalised your lesson.
  2. If he is retrograde and debilitated in your birth chart, he will give all his results in the physical world, he gains power and can be very helpful. Can give extraordinary power and position. But he will give nothing for the internal spiritual life.
  3. If more than one planet is retrograde in your chart the power of the planet which has advanced most in its sign will be comparatively more. eg. Saturn retrograde placed in 27deg Taurus will be more powerful than Venus retrograde placed at 5deg Cancer.
  4. If the currently retrograde planet is retrograde in your birth chart too, you need to do some spiritual activity till he turns forward again. You may face some slow downs and problems in those aspects of life which are in linked to this planet and his position in your chart in your physical life. But this will boost you spiritually. So plan on doing some meditation, pranayam or any practice which you are drawn to.
  5. The 1st, 4th, 7th and 10th houses are the pillars on which your life rests, the Kendra houses.
    • If natural benefics owns 4th, 7th and 10th houses and are retrograde then they will not give good results in the physical life. i.e Jupiter, Venus, Mercury (Moon is never retrograde). But will give good results for the spiritual things.
    • If natural malefics own 4th, 7th and 10th houses and are retrograde, they will give good results for the physical life, but not for the spiritual life.
  6. The 1st, 5th and 9th houses are the Dharma trikon which represent the help you get from others, this ensures you achieve your life objectives easily. Any planet which owns these houses and retrograde can give very good results in the physical life. (If he owns the 6th, 8th and 12th houses too at the same time, his results will be a bit lowered).
  7. One important point is that in case the retrograde is a Anuvakra. The planet crosses back into the previous sign during the retrograde motion. e.g the present Jupiter has started retrograding from Sagittarius in April 2019 and has crossed back into the previous sign Scorpio now. So for babies born now, Jupiter will give a mix of results Scorpio+Sagittarius.

Saturn turns retrograde, 2019

Astronomically Saturn reverses his direction whenever Sun enters the 5th or 9th house counted from his sign (Sun is in Aries in April 2019) and turns direct again when Sun enters the other 5th or 9th sign (Sun is in Leo during September 2019).

Very briefly on Saturn’s present retrograde. He is aspecting Gemini (7th from), Libra (11th from) and Aquarius (3rd from) as he is placed in Sagittarius. Right now he is with Ketu and aspected by Rahu, briefly Mars will aspect him in May-Jun. So if you are born with the ascendant or the Moon in these four signs will need to take special care. Also check out what these 4 signs represent in your chart, you will get some trouble from these parts of your life. Libra will be the least affected followed by Aquarius, Gemini and then Sagittarius which is going to bear the brunt of this retrograde.

This Saturn will make everyone go slow and think before taking decisions related to career, professional things, investments, like-minded groups, speculations, stock markets etc. Do not take big decisions related to legal issues, relations, financial matters, you might need to review them after Saturn turns forward again. If you are ill in some body part connected with Saturn (bones, teeth, ligaments, nails, hair etc) take special care. If you also have a retrograde Saturn in your birth chart, then expect issues with money flow and work. Try to behave in an honest, legal and professional manner, be disciplined, self-restrained and efficient as possible as taking on Saturn’s qualities will be good during this period.

Aura and Pran are interconnected

There are a lot of sources on how to see auras and what do the various colors of the aura mean, it shape size etc. It is said that only living beings can have auras but then how do we see food, houses and cars having auras? And then a dead body is seen to slowly lose its aura?

Aura and Pran are interconnected

So here is the technical stuff. You are the ‘individual soul’ called Jivatma. You reside in this of five layered body called Panchakosh/ five-enclosures (lowest energy is Anna-mai-kosh, Pran-mai-kosh, Mano-mai-kosh, Vidnyan-mai-kosh and Anand-mai-kosh the highest energy layer). To maintain and operate this complex structure you/Jivatma take in pran/vital energy from the Universal source (Samashti pran). Pran is the real ‘food’ that your bodies need. This is the force which your soul uses to manifest everything that you see and do. The soul uses the pran through the agency of the mind (ajnya chakra creates the Moon). Thus the pran is ‘colored’ by the state of your mind.

Now the ajnya chakra, is from where the soul gives orders to the mind and also allocates the pran to various activities. Thus your mind and pran allocation is interlinked. If you are angry, the pran that you pull in from the Universe will be allocated to the lower Muladhar chakra. The instincts which will now arise from the muladhar chakra will be violent and disorganised. And your aura will get red streaks, the angrier you are the more red it will be.

The different organs of the body have their specific auras depending on the health status of the organ. If the organ is healthy its aura will be the same as the general body aura. But if it is diseased it will be black, brown, grey, red etc murky colors. And how does it get diseased in the first place? e.g. when you are angry, the entire body does not get red, there are temporary vivid streaks of red within the body. These streaks correspond to the brain, heart, adrenal etc organs. It takes some time for you to cool down and even longer for the ‘normal’ pran flow to be restored, during which the organ and its energy suffers. If you get angry frequently, the organ gets damaged more and more at the higher energy levels till ultimately the illness filters down the energy layers of your 5 layered body and manifests in the actual physical organ.

In its ‘resting state’, the aura is colorless which is often perceived as a pale transparent/whitish, this is seen only in newborn babies or persons about to leave their bodies. At this point of time, there are no thoughts, no mind in the body. The soul is busy settling into the body or exiting it so the mind as such does not exist.

When the soul leaves the body, the pran stops circulating in it but there remain impressions/ traces which diminish within a few hours. So a dead body has no aura. Preserved vegetables also have no pran/aura, try seeing the aura of preserved olives. But a freshly plucked mango vibrates with energy.

Aura and Pran are interconnected

If you look closely the aura, is not a smooth layer, it is like tiny spikes which protrude from your skin. In a healthy, spiritually inclined individual these tiny spikes are rigid and straight out. Also this entire layer is quite sparkly. Tiny sparkly particles move around and also out. They look like a ‘heat-wave’, a pulsating movement in a 1-2 inch layer around the body if you observe it carefully. If someone is mentally/emotionally or physically not fit then these spikes droop and twist, there are lesser sparkles and their movement is also less vigorous. You can see this with your normal eyes with a bit of practice.

Then when in contact with other objects, like a chair or another person, these sparkles get detached from you and attached to these other things/people. That is how a non-animate object gains an ‘aura’. Your favourite chair has the sparkles from your aura adhering to it, thus seems to have an aura the same as yours! A house reflects the nature of its occupants. A temple has a beautiful aura, created by successive generations of people who have prayed there with faith, ‘heaven’!. And its exact opposite is a hospital where people are in pain or dying all the time.

The aura is never still and neither is it egg-shaped as shown in popular images. Imagine a wash of water on a paper and you put drops of different water colors in it, they gently swirl, merge, cancel out each other, move in different shapes, etc our aura is just like that. The transparent ‘resting’ aura gets its color from the myriad thoughts, emotions, actions that we perform at every instant, changing. When we are excited the aura throws out flares and swirls and its shape is further influenced by presence of other living beings nearby, or electricity in the air e.g during a thunderstorm etc. Depending on the mood of the person the aura can be very beautiful or extremely horrifying to see. These temporary moods are seen as swirls of different colors superimposed on the background of the person’s natural state of mind.

Now determined and strong thoughts are seen as defined shapes within the aura boundary of the person. But when the thought takes the form of ‘intention’, it can leave the aura boundary and move out. E.g. while doing Reiki, you intend healing and use the reiki symbols to push this thought from your aura to the client. You can see the energy of this thought moving. If you get emotional about the client even for a bit, you will see your personal energy moving from your aura to his. If this happens too often you will drain yourself. And how do you know it is your personal energy? If you have learnt to see auras by now, I hope you have first of all examined your own self and aura and know its ‘flavour’!

During Reiki initiation too there is a permanent change in the aura as the Reiki symbols are inserted deep within the energy body. My advice would be to just stick with the basic Usui Reiki. You cannot predict what can happen if you get too many symbols inside your body (karuna, etc variants).

You can enhance your aura’s strength and vibrational quality. Spiritual practice is nothing but entraining your mind to a perfect high energy pattern. Doing this regularly, you are flooding your energy body including your aura with a distinct desirable idea. Your mind ‘holds on’ to this idea. And if you can ‘color’ your idea with a golden/silvery/pearly color your practice will be even more effective.

Creating an energy shield is also important. Always visualise yourself surrounded by a golden/silvery/pearly cocoon of light. You can see out from this but nothing can see you or get in it. These colors will protect your mind and emotions from being disturbed by outside influences. And if your mind is still, you have achieved it all.

Exercise your bio-electricity, practical experiments

I have written quite a few posts where you can use simple techniques to manifest what you desire. However the main thing is your thought, the intention, the attraction, the desire.

Exercise your bio-electricity, practical experiments

Your soul is omnipotent, it can create anything that you desire. The entire universe has been created out of ‘Kama’ simply put ‘desire’. So if you desire something, your soul should be able to create it for you, and it does! You must have noticed this perhaps, you intensely feel like eating something and at home your mom has prepared that same exact dish for dinner.

Suppose you and your favourite cousin live in different towns and you really like him and you often think of him, so does he. One day you randomly feel concerned and call him up to find that he has fallen ill that day. Am sure you must have experienced this with your loved ones. What has happened is this.. You think of him regularly i.e. you have his image in your mind. If the bond is weak then the image fades, but if the affection is strong, his image is vivid in your minds eye. Over time, the strong bond activates the hidden occult powers of your mind and the image gets linked to the real person. So your mind subconsciously starts sensing things about him without any conscious effort. These are reflected as your feelings of concern when he is unwell. If you are aware of this bond you can clearly concentrate and make it more intense. This will lead to actual telepathy where you can actually send him coherent messages and receive his in return.

The power of your mind created a telepathic link because of ‘desire’. Now can you imagine the amount of work your mind did? When you desired, your soul and mind created a force/fire (atma-tej), which eventually became so strong that it broke through all barriers to bring you news of your cousin.

Physical scientists say that a very little amount of the brain is active in the human body. This is a faulty conclusion. Just because there are no physically observable actions does not mean that the brain is not working. The brain is a tool of the mind which is a tool of the soul. A significant proportion of its potential is used in creating this construct called ‘reality’. We have trained our brains to persistently think of this ‘reality’ around us. So can you un-train it and train it to think of what you really desire?

Exercise your bio-electricity, practical experiments

If you persistently desire something you will get it. Telepathy, distant vision, seeing the past/future etc are all quite easy. So here are some fun things to try consciously with your atma-tej/internal energy.

Take two glasses of water. Leave one of them as a ‘control’. Do a small experiment with the second one, dip the tips of your fingers in it. Consciously visualise energy from your finger-tips entering the water and changing its taste, e.g making it salty. Do this for 5 minutes. Then give both the glasses to someone who has not been watching you do this and ask him to taste. See which one now tastes different?

Another simple experiment would be to keep a flower fresh. When you get vegetables from the market they are technically ‘dead’, but because pran leaks slowly from the body you can still eat them and make use of their energy. So back to the flowers, get 2 flowers, keep one of them on your table where you can see it and keep the other somewhere where it wont be visible to anyone. Look intently but gently at the flower on your table every couple of hours with the intention that your energy is sustaining it. It will remain fresh longer than the other flower which was away from your sight.

Telekinesis? Here is an easy demonstration which you can try out. Take a needle and thread. Tie the thread to some solid support so that the needle dangles down, sort of a pendulum. There should be no wind in the room. Look intently at the needle and tell it to move clockwise, after a few minutes it will move. If you have 3-4 friends then you can also try together to move heavier objects like this.

Try making an energy barrier around a caterpillar or something. With your finger tips, draw a circle on the ground around the insect. Visualise your energy powering the circle and imagine it as a barrier which the insect cannot cross. It will not be able to cross it, and even if it does it will seem like it is very difficult and the insect is trying very hard. (Remember the ‘Laxman Rekha’ from the Ramayan? It was a similar energy barrier around the house made by Laxman.)

Shock someone? Your friend is doing some work, engrossed. You stare at the exposed part of his neck with the intention of disturbing him. He won’t be able to concentrate on his work, the back of his neck will start itching. Am sure you have done this in school! You didn’t know it then, but you were using your internal energy.

So do something with your internal energy, practice something as silly as changing the taste of water if you want. Feel your powers, experience this seemingly tiny thing. Butterfly wings! Once you see your own tiny ‘miracle’, you will start your own spiritual practice with conviction. You have to convince yourself. Recognise that you are tremendous, your energy is unlimited and you are the Ultimate Reality yourself!

Of Evil eyes and Children

All of us have auras which are extensions of our personalities. Auras do a lot of things including protecting us. Aura is the biological energy of the body. Similarly our thoughts also have energy. All such energies generated by a conscious living being is something like a ‘bio-energy’.

When someone looks at a sweet-looking child with wishful eyes it is said to be an ‘evil eye’ on the child, and the child might actually suffer. That person may be childless so might be longing for a child herself, or may just be watching the child very intently, or may be just casually watching with a penetrating gaze, no ill will for the child as such. Her subconscious mind thinks, ‘I wish I had such a lovely child’, ‘Such a sweet child, I wish he were my child’, etc. These subtle thoughts are not deliberate or malignant, they are just subconscious ‘longing’.

What is ‘evil eye’ really? It is basically a minor version of a psychic attack. Now a child is small with very little defence mechanisms in his aura and the energy link created by the adult’s gaze is so strong that it is a shock for his energy body. A large chunk of energy gets pulled out of his aura and he feels the energy shock followed by a physical illness.

Of Evil eyes and Children

Staring with intense longing attracts the person who is being looked at, irrespective of age. If your husband is going away for a few days and you bid him bye with penetrating wishful eyes, he is also going to feel uncomfortable for a while as he travels.

In India, small children are intentionally protected from the ‘evil eye’. The mother puts a dot of her kajal/kohl behind the child’s left ear, or left side of the forehead. She thus creates an energy-link supporting her child. Tying black threads or amulets around the child’s neck is also a common way of protection. Children are kept presentable, not heavily dressed up so that random people stare. Small children are not taken out on days when there is thunder and lightening in the sky, on such days the atmosphere is charged with electricity and the body can lose some of its bio-energy. Babies, until the ritual of Annaprashan (eating the first food other than milk), are cuddled only by their parents and close relatives. Children less than 1yr of age are generally not taken out in public gatherings etc where random strangers can see or touch them. Most adults here do not kiss or cuddle babies from other families as a matter of tradition.

Here we also do not let our young children sleep alone. Sleep is not ‘shut-down’, it a state of existence where there exist different energies and dangers. The child always sleeps next to his mother so that while sleeping her bio-energy supports him. She is the only one who gives to her child, even subconsciously she will only give, never take. In some modern Indian houses, I have observed the parents send the child to sleep with the grandparents rather than keeping him with them at night. This causes a very different problem for the child, it is strange and rather difficult to understand but this happens. The older person has a very strong bioenergy field and subconsciously drains the vitality of the child. The grandparents love the child dearly, but the subconscious reality while sleeping is different. Children have very weak defences and a thinner bio-energy shield so are very vulnerable, so might even fall ill. (It is something like a tree, an older tree has greater capacity to draw nourishment compared to a young sapling. And if you have observed, small saplings do not grow in the shade of older trees.)

Where I live now, the local tradition is that the husband is generally 10yr or so older than the wife. I have attended a few local weddings where the rosy cheeked young women looking so very pretty and within a year of the marriage they age, often with some illness. Conversely, the husbands seem to glow with health after the marriage. The reason is the same. After marriage when these women engage in physical activity and also sleep next to their much older husbands, their bio-vitality is being drawn off by them. So marry someone around your own age, too much of an age gap is not advisable. In some cultures there is a system where a man marries several women younger to him. If you are observant you might see that the man is glowing with health while his wives seem weak and ill. The bio-energy reason is the same.

Of Evil eyes and Children

Back to children. We do not allow children near places of negative energy. Places like hospitals, sites of tragedy, ancient wars, or violence, or a house where someone has died, cemeteries etc. The imprint of these negative events in these places is enough to cause a bio-shock to the energy of the child. A small child is neither completely aware nor unaware of things. He still carries with him the impressions of his immediate past life as these have not yet been wiped off and neither has he gained sufficient new experiences of this life. He is also willing to learn in every way. He does not have the will to resist impressions from people and environments yet. So his personality will be moulded as per the environment he lives in and the people he interacts with. So protect your small children.

Another problem is that parents think that their baby is unable to understand things, so often get physical with each other with the small child sleeping near them. But the child has fully functional ‘extra-senses’, and his aura shield is also weak and thin. So the energy of the physical act is pulled deeply into the subconscious of the child which causes great damage and will affect his behaviour as he gets older.

When two people meet, who will influence the other? It is like a fight at the bio-energy level. The one who has the greater bio-energy wins. We are electromagnetic beings and we all interact at levels much deeper than what can be sensed by our limited 5 senses. We all love our children, and it is our responsibility to protect them while they are young and vulnerable to ‘evil eye’.

Pranayam, the basic 3 methods

There are several ways of doing pranayam, but the basic concept remains the same. You sit on your asan, in your darkened room, sit in your chosen yogic posture, Ardha-padmasan, Siddhasan or Padmasan. Then you inhale/ Purak, retain the breath/ Kumbhak and then exhale/ Rechak in a specific pattern. This Pranayam is quite a serious ‘vital exercise’ (it is in fact a Yog) where you are manipulating the pran/vital energy in your body so there are a few things you should be aware of.

Pranayam, the basic 3 methods

Pranayam pattern One –

You should start with the relatively gentle Anulom/Vilom Pranayam first. The thumb is used to close the right nostril and the little and ring fingers together close the left nostril. Anyone can do this irrespective of physical fitness.

  • Close your right nostril and breathe slowly in from your left,
  • then close your left nostril, (both nostrils will remain closed briefly)
  • open just your right and breathe slowly out from the right.
  • Next breathe in slowly from the right,
  • close the right, (both will be closed briefly)
  • open just the left and breathe out slowly from the left nostril.
  • This is one count. Repeat

Start your practice with 6 counts. You can increase the time to upto 30 mins in one sitting. (If you cannot sit for 30 mins at a stretch, at least do 10 breathing counts regularly ideally four times a day, but even twice a day is good to start with.)

This is the basic pattern and it goes in very deep. For regular practice this pattern is the most effective and safest.

Pranayam Pattern Two –

Attempt this Bhastrika Pranayam only and only if you are physically fit and only after you have been doing the basic Anulom/Vilom regularly at least for a month. Breathe in, fill your chest, do not retain the breath, breathe out immediately with a hissing sound in your throat. This is one count. Your chest will be moving very fast. Do 10 counts and then the 11th count will be breath in and out very slowly without retaining the air. These 11 counts is one set.

Do only one set initially, maximum is 6 sets. It can be exhausting, so attempt it only if you are fit enough, else you can damage your body. This pranayam has a specific use, i.e. to open the Sushumna and force the flow of pran through it.

Pranayam Pattern Three –

Only when you have been doing the Pattern One for at least one month regularly and you are fit enough. Inhale slowly through both nostrils. Retain the air. Now push your head back on your shoulders so that your neck muscles tighten. And pull in your abdomen upwards as much as you can. The retained air will now create a pressure against your throat. Retain this for as long as you comfortably can. Now close your left nostril with the ring and little finger of your right hand and breathe out through your right nostril. This is one count. Do this 5 times where you will exhale from the right nostril only. Then for the next 5 counts, repeat the same process but now you will now breathe out from the left nostril only, and close the right nostril with the thumb of the right hand. This 5+5 is one set.

You can go upto 10 counts per nostril but slowly, and increase the time to upto 30 mins in one sitting. These are strenuous movements of the body and the pran too, so never rush into it, slowly and gradually.

Pranayam, the basic 3 methods Pranayam, the basic 3 methods

These three patterns are the preparatory phases where you clean out the body and remove all diseases which linger on in it. All chronic diseases and bodily pains can be overcome by regulating the pran/vital energy in your body. A few tips would be,

  1. Practice twice a day.
  2. Do not eat heavy meals at least 2 hours before doing this, you can have a small snack upto 30 mins before doing this.
  3. Eat food that you have prepared with your own hands, at least one dish a day. Do not eat spicy or heavy foods.
  4. The inward and outward breath should be slow steady and a smooth flow. If there is disturbance in the flow of air it will cause negative impact on the body. So focus on the rhythm and the flow of the breath. The more relaxed it is the more beneficial it will be.
  5. The air from the lungs must be exhaled completely before you start inhaling again. Abdominal breathing will ensure this.
  6. Your neck, back and head should be straight, not stressed, relaxed and straight. The body muscles and body posture should not be under stress. No forced breathing, no strain on the chest/abdominal muscles. Do not worry about the length of the breath, initially it will be quite short, the body knows when to extend it.
  7. Visualise that your body is being filled with positive silvery/golden energy as you breathe in. As you breathe out visualise that you are throwing away all the negativity, black stuff and darkness out from you.
  8. Try and live a satvik (energies directed towards the internal Reality) lifestyle, do not think or do things which go against the conscience.
  9. If you wish to do Mantra jaap or Dhyan or Homa or any spiritual practice, do it after you have completed your pranayam, it will be more powerful.
  10. Be patient and do your practice, your internal energy nadi and chakras are all being cleaned out. It might take some time for it to be visible in your physical body, but within 6 months people close to you will notice the difference and you yourself will also feel lighter and cleaner. Willpower will increase, you will be more fearless, intellect/memory will be sharper, you will look bright/serene, aura will change etc.

Pranayam increases the ‘heat’ within the body, this ‘heat’ is used to clean out the blockages within your chakra/nadi system. You should go slow because these blockages are within the thinnest possible nadis, they have to be cleared gently to avoid damage. This much can be practiced by a householder who is still active in his routine life. For the next step in Pranayam there are rules which need to be followed regarding food, behaviour etc. And these rules are for your own safety, because you are manipulating the most valuable thing in the universe, your own vital energy.

And the most important thing, you have to recite a Mantra when you do your Pranayam else the energies created will be tamasic. As the initial levels, I would advise you to mentally recite OM four times as you breathe in (Purak) or out (Rechak) and mentally recite OM eight times when you are holding your breath, pinching your nose shut (kumbhak). This will ensure that you gain on the spiritual levels too. This is extremely important and I have seen that all ‘modern yoga’ teachers completely miss this.

So try these seemingly simple Pranayam. Start with pattern one, initially this will take 5 mins of your time twice a day. (Ideally these are to be practiced at sunrise, midday, sunset and midnight. If you )

You are investing these few minutes for your own self, so do practice.

‘Cleaning up’ after energy work

In several of my posts I have written about things that I and my brother sometimes do, the so-called ‘energy-work’. Here is a bit on the precautions that we take while doing these things. Have written about these earlier but here is a consolidated list.

'Cleaning up' after energy work

Peacock feathers bunch – There is a peacock feather bunch in my bedroom as well as in my sitting room, protects me as I sleep and also looks pretty in my house. I use it to brush out the aura of my house once a week and for my family members if they want me to.

Smudging – I use Loban/frankincense. Saturday evenings I light up a piece and take it around my house, reciting the Navavarna mantra, also ring a small bell as I go around. It works well enough for the house, but not so well for removing negative energies from people.

Ganga water – I live near the river Ganga, its water has perfect energy. I spritz this water in my house if I feel its energy levels going down and on myself if I have dabbled in energy work and need cleansing.

Camphor – Burning real natural camphor works well for removal of negativity. And I also keep small Camphor sachets in the rooms and in my car. Camphor sublimes so I replace these sachets once a month. Charging these sachets with Reiki symbols makes them even more effective.

Lemons – I use them to ‘remove’ the evil eye or spirits roaming around in my house or around my family members. Once a month on the no-moon night or during an eclipse.

Sea salt – Have written about this in detail in a previous post. This is one essential thing in your energy kit you can use it in several ways for protection, cleansing and disconnection.

Rice – Raw uncooked rice is also an option. Hold a fistful of rice for a minute in your hand with the intention that it picks up all the negative stuff which has attached to you and wave it around your head thrice in the clockwise direction. Then go out of your house, turn around so that you are facing your house and throw this rice over your shoulder and without looking back, directly come back inside.

Hair – A lot can be done using hair! I cannot bear anyone touching my head or hair even if for a hair cut. For the past several years I have been cutting my hair myself. One of the best ways of removing negative energy cords is snipping off just one strand of hair with the intention on a no-moon (amavasya) day.

Pendulums – Use your pendulum with the intention of disconnection and cleansing. You hold it in your right hand and keep your left palm an inch below it as it moves. As it moves within your aura field it will remove the negative stuff that you have picked up.

Chi-balls – Everyone can make them, they start forming a soon as your cupped hands are near each other. If you focus and intend they can be made stronger and more powerful. Now you make your chi-ball and visualise it as a shell around you, pearly silvery golden in color. You can see out of this but no one can see you within this shell. This is the best protective energy shield you can make for yourself. It will also cut negative cords around you if any.

Gold and silver – I wear gold bangles and silver anklets which I charge with my mantras and intention for protection. They then work like ‘energy gloves’ and ‘socks’ protecting me from anything negative that I might get involved with. The center of the earlobe corresponds with the pineal gland so wearing gold earrings charged with mantras acts as a very good energy battery for the entire body.

Trimetal bangle made of Copper, silver and gold adds the Martian fiery energy of aggression and confidence to take on anything. So this is an all in one tool which helps when taking on beings from other dimensions.

Amulets – I use mantras to do homa with the intention of protection and the ash which remains is packed inside a talisman which I wear. Once its job is done it falls off on its own. The ash from such a homa can be used in several ways, I blow it over myself as I am about to leave home and again when I come back to rid myself of negative cords and stuff.

'Cleaning up' after energy work

Reiki

  • First, neither me nor my brother do healings on others, we teach them instead to heal themselves. Sorry to say this, but the people who come are so overwhelmed with negative energies that their higher self requests more and above the Reiki and then it becomes difficult for us.
  • Reiki, the original principles that Mikao Usui taught, was supposed to be taught to all without charging them for it and everyone was supposed to do their own healing. So if our clients are interested we initiate them into Reiki rather than doing their healing ourselves.
  • If they are too ill, we use crystals or water rather than direct connection. Charging crystals and telling them to keep it in their pockets or charging their drinking water works beautifully. Hon sha zhe sho nen is used to sandwich all the other symbols and intentions, and the whole package is ‘put’ into the crystal or water bottle. This acts as an energy battery for a fortnight easily.
  • If direct healing is unavoidable then only for 5 mins, no more. (Modern Reiki practitioners claim that reiki is channelising the universal energy, which is true. But we have observed that more than 5 minutes and your higher self starts giving out your personal energy.)
  • Disconnection is using the cho ku re. Visualising cho ku re as a ‘sword’ which cleanly separates the energy link to the client. This ‘sword’ is quite useful and you can use it separate yourself from anything, energy cords and emotional hangovers from unpleasant situations.

Finally spiritual practice – Doing your regular spiritual practice, Dhyan or a mantra jaap helps in more ways than one. The body’s energy gets more intense, you get a armour of positive energies, every action you do gets powered up. If you have managed to make your mantra siddha, then it is a permanent weapon and shield in your hands. Another effect is that you are not scared of anything as you have the strength and the will to use that strength too.

And then as a last resort. If you have gone in more than you could handle and the negative energy of the situation has touched you more deeply that you anticipated, its best to fall a little bit sick. Allow the negative energy to express itself in a controlled way, a minor cold, throwing up or loose motions will remove the negative energy from your system completely, as a last resort.

Most importantly learn to see auras, it is very easy and if you practice you should be able to see the overall aura, the individual auras of each body parts, the aura of food/water that you are going to eat, the aura of your house etc. In fact you will be able to see the aura of speech, the words that someone is speaking. If you sense negative energy, immediately visualise a shield around you and charge this shield with the mantra/reiki/intention etc. You will also be able to sense the other dimensional beings with time. Learn to sense auras it will be a big asset in your energy work and add to your confidence.

Defination of Graha from the Suryasiddhant

Vedic philosophy is not theoretical, it is completely practical. Prime importance is given to the one who Experiences. Obviously things have to be in motion to be observed and experienced. This motion is either in time or in space or in both.

First we intend. The intention is first created in the mind, then powered with various mantra, other energy rituals and their practice. Often these will result in events/creation which are perceived in real life, e.g. financial benefits, getting a child, a job, or spiritual progress. Then we have the inner Universe where we can never get physical proofs, subjects like the soul, birth, death and rebirth, karma, etc, so we use the science of Illumination, Jyotish to learn about these hidden truths.

Defination of Graha from the Suryasiddhant

Most modern astrologers have this opinion that the Vedic system was unaware of the trans-Saturn planets thus did not use them. This is faulty thinking, as ‘graha’, the forces in astrology are erroneously translated to mean ‘planets’. The trans-Saturnian planets were quite well known to the ancient astronomers as Shwet/ Uranus, Shyam/ Neptune and Teevra/ Pluto but were never used in Jyotish because they are not ‘graha’.

The basis of all Jyotish mathematics is the Suryasiddhant written by Mayadanav in Sanskrit. This is the oldest book on astronomy and everything related to the movement of the earth and heavenly bodies. We still use this as the basis of all our calculations. There is no estimation on when it was written. This book is not correctly and completely understood even today. If you are interested it is available as a pdf on archive.org. Just an example, it mentions the avg length of the tropical year to be 365.2421756 days and the modern value is accepted at 365.2421904 days!

So Suryasiddhant gives the Jyotish definition of ‘graha’. A small maths,

  • As per the Suryasiddhant the motion of the Sun in time is called the kaksh/zone of the Sun. This is generally understood to be one Solar year long, and the Sun moves within this Kaksh/zone.
  • The zone of Saturn is 29.47 times the Sun’s zone. This can be simply understood as 29.47 solar years, which is also the time he takes to complete one revolution around the Sun.
  • After that the next planet is Uranus, he occupies a zone 84 times that of the Sun’s zone. For simple understanding this is the 84 solar years that it takes to make one complete revolution around the Sun.
  • Now the Lunar mansions/Nakshatra also have a similar zone in time (Bhakaksh). This zone is 60 times of the zone of the Sun. i.e. 60 solar years. The belt of the Nakshatra/the zodiac has a ‘orbital’ motion around the Sun which is 60 solar years long. A point to understand here, we are talking in terms of time not ‘outer space‘.

Now ‘graha’ is not a planet, it is defined by its astrological influences perceptible on Earth. As per Suryasiddhant, the outermost limit of astrological influence is the Bhakaksh, the zone of the Nakshatra/Lunar mansions who make up the Zodiac belt. No heavenly body beyond this zone has astrological impact on us on the Earth. Thus Saturn is the farthermost graha which is within the Bhakaksh boundary.

One point to be noted, we are talking in ‘time’. The Nakshatras are linked to the stars which are much beyond the solar system, but we are not talking about the physical stars/constellations here. We are analysing the effects of the energies of the belt of the Zodiac/the Nakshatra belt. There is no physical object between the zone of Saturn and the zone of Uranus. We are discussing the time it takes for these heavenly bodies to move and their movement in relation to the movement of the Sun.

This movement of the Bhakaksh is very important and mundane astrologers find events repeating themselves with each cycle of the Bhakaksh. The cycle is of 60 solar years (one solar year is 365 days 6 hours 12 minutes and 36 seconds ) These 60 solar years, which constitute the zone/Bhakaksh of the Nakshatra belt, have names (From ‘Prabhava’ to Akshara’ there are 60 names) and are used in predictions. There is a separate section in astrology called Medini Jyotish which deals with the land and the people both in time and space on a much larger scale. What we are using at present is Hora Jyotish or Phalit-Jyotish which gives predictions of individuals.

If you are interested do search on a phenomenon called ‘Teleconnections’ in global events. There is a cycle of 60 solar years in weather etc phenomena of the earth which are a part of Medini Jyotish. However we do not have experts on Medini Jyotish anymore, as after the Hindu empires collapsed about a thousand years ago there was no one left who knew how to use these concepts. No one was really interested in long term astrological calculations of nations and thus we stopped using the yamala tantras and the chakras and other tools of Medini astrology.

So to answer the question, in Vedic astrology we do not use the trans-Saturnine planets as they are not ‘graha’.
