Find your courage astrologically

‘Boldness’ in astrological terms is the domain of the 3rd house. ‘Parakrama’, valour and courage in a horoscope is seen from here. So to find out how brave you are in life, pull out your chart. The physical environment and the manifested stuff is the D-1, so in your regular chart which has your rising sign as the 1st house check these out.

  1. Do a quick overview of the ascendant sign and ascendant lord and your birth moon placement and then get down to the actual 3rd house.
  2. The sign placed in the 3rd house, and its owner planet. Also where is this owner planet placed?
  3. The planets placed in this 3rd house and which houses do they own
  4. Check out the power of all these planets to give results. Are they retrograde, debilitated, exalted, combust, malefic or benefic, or conjunct with malefics, or aspected by malefics/benefics. Are they with friendly/enemy planets? In short, how comfortable these planets are and how well will they give their results.
  5. Now the natural 3rd sign of the zodiac is Gemini and Mercury is its owner. So check out how these two are placed in your chart, as they will exert a subtle influence wherever they might be placed.

Next your emotional context from the birth moon chart, the same one as above redrawn with your birth moon sign as the 1st house. How do you really feel being courageous and bold in front of others. Are you outwardly quite outgoing but internally cringe at the thought of giving a presentation? For this you will analyse the 3rd house counted from the birth moon sign in the same way as you did above. e.g. you have Saturn placed here he will restrict and constrict your personal courage, Jupiter will help benevolently expand, Mars will add aggressiveness and competition, Mercury will make it analytical and communicative, Sun will make it self-referential and a bit egoistic, Venus will want balance and beauty, Rahu will make it calculative, sneaky even and Ketu here will cause you to be not too bothered about how strongly you take a stand in life!

The astral/subconscious expectations from your D-9 Navamsha chart. If you know your exact birth time, I do advise checking out the divisional chart 9. (Any Vedic astrology software will give this chart.) This gives a glimpse into your deeper astral self and on what is potentially available with you. If you have the potential you can consciously manifest it in your life. You might check these two things. (If you find it is too complicated, leave it!)

  1. The 3rd house sign from the D-1 above, where has it shifted to? If it shifts to any of the dushamsthana (6th, 8th or 12th houses) or has been occupied by malefic planets here, its potential will reduce.
  2. The owner of the 3rd house of the D-1, where does he shift to? If it lands up in ‘good houses’, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th, 11th it will increase the potential.

Find your courage astrologically

So now you have a fair idea of how well you can speak up. Some of us can’t, here are a few things you can do to attract the energies of courage into yourself. Choose to change yourself!

Communicate, start talking – When you have 2 mins free, stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself the one thing that interested you in your day today. Describe your car, your lunch, the weather, your grocery shopping, something that scared you, the smell of a perfume, anything that registered. Observe your face and body language as you do this. Encourage yourself!

Sing – Being a bathroom singer is a good idea! Your favourite song, just a few lines, just for a couple of minutes a day. Or hum along any random tune, gets rid of stress.

Write something – Just a couple of lines a day. A thought, or something you said or heard, something that touched you, made an impact, made you happy or sad, anything, but write. This is your personal thing so be true to yourself. Keep a secret diary.

Learn a new word every day – There are so many dictionary apps, download one and learn a new word a day. A word is a tiny thing, but this will tell your mind that you are anticipating something new everyday, looking forward to learning, being curious, and doing something about it. As you open your app every day, so will you start opening new doors for your personality to express itself every day. A small change triggering something big.

Travel – Go for day or half-day tours once a month either alone or in a small group with your friends/family. Visit your local museum, local historical places, a botanical park, zoo, your local park, sea-side, fun-fairs, a short trek, a picnic, local farmers market, craft fairs, whatever is available in your city. Try to be with nature or learn something new on your day-tour. Observe other people, children, animals, trees or the water, you will always see something new. (going shopping in a commercial mall is not a day tour!)

And finally, use your hands – Open out your hands, look at them, the palms, the fingers and the back of your hands. These are your tools, you do everything with your hands, hold, touch, love. So use them, type, sew, knit, write, grasp, paint, create with your hands. As you use your hands for more things, you will find more opportunities coming to you. Open up.

These are a few tiny actions which you can mindfully do regularly. These are the keywords of Mercury and Gemini, you are practicing with their energies. You can always think your way out, your creativity and intention is your power, use it to be more assertive in life. Express yourself and be free.

Chakras and their conscious energies

Continuing the theme from my previous post and this post is quite long.

The top of the head is the energy of the Parabrahma and the energy of self-identification, popularly called Kundalini is locked at the bottom of the spine. The entire creation is now between these two energies also called Shiva and Shakti.

All our actions are created by vibrations. The energy required to create this action is first generated in the Sushumna and the naadi system. When we speak there are vibrations but even when we think, or move our hands there are vibrations. The source of all vibrations of every type is inside the Sushumna. I had written about the deity Matrika originating in the – central Bindu, Vama, Jeystha, Raudri complex – which gives rise to all the sounds of the Sanskrit language and thus creation. Now this Matrika energy actually has 7 aspects/Sapta-Matrika named Brahmi, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani and Chamunda.

Chakras and their conscious energies

Braahmi –

This energy evolves in this topmost energy complex comes down till below the muladhar then again ascends till it is stabilised in the Sahasrara chakra. It has jurisdiction over and pervades throughout all the chakras of the body. The musical tone is Sa (Shatja – meaning a summation of the six lower chakras). Surya/Sun of Jyotish/astrology arises from her. The Vyhruti here is Satyam. (Vyhruti means a stage of vibrations or a defined world or a state of existence.)

She exercises her power called Yakini, i.e. she grants the experience of the ultimate truth to the aspirant and likewise during creation she closes this aspect of Yourself by limiting knowledge, your individual soul is confined to its own narrow self. She answers the question Yak? (Which?, Who?) and allows its experience. She allows you to experience your internal Sun.

Maaheshwari

This originates in the same topmost complex, spreads till the end of the Muladhar chakra, comes back up and is stable at the Ajnya chakra. She has jurisdiction from the Ajnya to Muladhar chakra. She thus does not extend from the Ajnya to Sahasrara area. She controls the subtle body/sukshma sharir. The Vyhruti here is Tapah. The musical tone here is Re (Rhushabh). She give rise to the Moon/Chandra. Moon is the subconscious and the astral, the sum total of your Being in every level.

The Ajnya chakra is the one which commands (ajnya means command). It directs all movements, thoughts, everything as this is the place which allocates pran. Every action of yours, in whatever plane requires enregy/pran to power it. Maaheshwari uses her power called Hakini and directs everything. Now when the aspirant crosses this chakra on the way up he abandons (Hakini) all external activities. Now the pran is not allocated to the lower chakras, it moves upwards to open up the higher chakras and channels of the head. This Hakini is the Moon that is drawn on the forehead of every Vedic god. She illuminates the path of knowledge from the Ajnya to the Sahasrara.

Kaumari

Aakasha is the conscious space which evolves from Kaumaari. She originates at the topmost complex and similarly extends till below the Muladhar and comes back and is stable at the Vishuddhi chakra having jurisdiction from the Vishuddhi to the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Janah. The musical tone connected to this chakra is Ga (Gandhara). Mercury/Budha is created from her. Mercury is analytical intelligence and the boldness when you know intellectually that you are correct.

Daakini is the name of her power. She creates fear i.e. she creates ‘avidya’ during the process of creation. Avidya means unwisdom, unlearning, spiritual ignorance. She ties the individual soul in bindings of ignorance of its reality. For the spiritual aspirant however she destroys Avidya and the concepts of the organs of action and senses.

Vaishnavi

She manifests the Vayu/Air tattwa/element and is located at the Anahata chakra pervading from Anahata to the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Mahah. The musical tone is Ma (Madhyama – the central note). She creates the planetary force called Shukra/Venus. Now her power is called Raakini. She grants happiness, illumination, prosperity and bliss. Now it is your choice which sort of happiness you are after, of the material or the spiritual? For the aspirant she grants you the quiver and the arrow to be used on your bow. Her tests will be the tests of Venus/Shukra the most pleasurable but the most difficult.

Now the bow, archer, quiver, arrow etc are oft repeated words and you will find them in every spiritual text. The Bhagwat Gita was narrated by Shri Krishna to his cousin Arjun who is an archer! In spiritual terms your spine is your bow, your kundalini/energy of self identity is your arrow and your mantra is the bowstring that you pull back on. You are aiming at your own real Self.

Chakras and their conscious energies

Vaarahi

She manifests Agni the conscious energy of fire and is located at the Manipur, pervading from here till the Muladhar. The Vyhruti here is Swah. The musical tone here is Pa (Panchama – the fifth). Mangal/Mars is derived from her energy. The energy of birth and also of death are linked here. Be careful of your navel area, if you ever get hit here (e.g. boxing) it will cause damage and will cause problems in spiritual growth.

Now her power is called Laakini. She allows absorption of the energy allocated to the body. In the human physical body this Lakini allows the fires of the body to burn. This includes the digestive fire which allows the physical body to nourish itself. And it also means the spiritual fire which consumes the nectar dripping from center of the head (physically the pineal gland.). (Those yogis who can access this area through specific mudras can actively use it. It will then further the spiritual growth rather than just being burnt, it is quite fiery in nature.)

Indraani

She manifests the Aap/water mahabhoot i.e. conscious energy of fluidity and has jurisdiction over the area from the Swadhisthan to the Muladhar. The Vyhruti here is Bhuvah. The musical tone here is Dha (Dhaivata). The energy of Jupiter/Bruhaspati is produced from her. Her power is called Kaakini. Kaa is the eternal Question, Who?, you will be made to understand the widest scope of this question here and then tested. When you cross this chakra, you will be granted steadfastness, protection, a long and healthy life for the physical body etc. She is benevolent, gentle all pervasive, but will not give her answers, will make you work hard for them till you understand her lessons. She also protects her manifested universe, so here your resolve in leaving her fun-fair will be tested to the limits.

This chakra is called swa- adhi-sthan. (abode/base/support of the self) Here your self is fixed in the energy sense. Between the Swadhisthan and the last Muladhar the 72000 naadi which energise your body are attached. For the aspirant however, here is where you, the warrior, will sit in your chariot, with the steadfast resolve of approaching the Supreme’s abode.

Chaamundaa

She manifests the Pruthvi/earth tattva/element and is located at the Muladhar chakra. The Vyhruti here is Bhu.The musical tone here is Ni (Nishada – lowest energy level). The Shani/Saturn energy of astrology is manifested by her. She keeps track of the karmic record you have built up and when the time is right offers you a way out. She offers to teach you the lessons which will loosen your bindings to the manifested universe. But she is quite fearsome and not every one will take her up on her offer right away.

Her energy is called Saakini. Saakini binds the Serpent Kundalini to the hexagonal Kurma-shila. She is thus responsible for the created life. If the Kundalini is detached from the kurmashila it is physical death. This is the point where the subtle energies finally manifest as the gross physical, this is the joint. This is where the pran turns into the energy of the body, and vibrations are slowed down to seem ‘matter’. If Saakini is pleased with your resolve she will unfasten the locks of the Kundalini. Your limited physical existence will be terminated as you move towards your magnificent ultimate self.

This was a very brief about the energies of the 7 Chakras and their conscious energies.

Chakras and their conscious energies

Now a bit more.

There are 7 notes of the musical scale which are also connected to the Chakras and thus a well organised music, the Raaga has the capacity to elevate the human soul.

The tattva or the mahabhoot are the 5 elements which make up the universe. The Sanskrit words are translated into earth, water, fire, air and space but it is not the gross stuff that we see with our eyes. The Pruthvi, Aap, Tej ,Vayu and Akash are the subtle seeds and are conscious energy. You can manipulate them with your intention and mantras, e.g. if you know the mantra for the pruthvi tattva you can make your gross body weightless.

The seven graha are linked to the 7 chakras but where are Rahu and Ketu? These two are produced because of the desires/apathies of the Jivatma/individual soul. They are ‘unreal’ in a very deep way. These are the bonds of karma which push/pull the energy geometry out of its perfect shape. In the heavens too they move anticlockwise, opposite in direction to the other seven. Rahu/Ketu in perpetual retrograde motion replays the experiences of your life. They operate on the psychological and inner spiritual levels.

The powers of the Sapt Matrikas, from Yakani to Sakini always challenge the spiritual aspirant. They test the resolve and the intention in every way possible. Depending on which spiritual text you are following they will take that form, e.g. if you are following the Bhagwat Gita, you will have to take on these powers as the Kaurav army and warriors from the Kurukshetra war in your Dhyan. Only when you have defeated them, will they be satisfied and grant you their blessings and boons. So focus single-pointedly on your Mantra (Om/Soham/Hamsa), your third eye chakra point and your breath. These are your weapons.

The top Parabrahma is the pull of gravity (Gurutvakarshan – pull of the Guru). The 7 planets are the Naga at every chakra, the 7 mountains which block the route, the Rahu/Ketu are the karma which cause push/pull and the energy of self-identity is locked below this axis below the kundalini. So Moksh in Jyotish terms. If you can align these 7 mountains into the perfect alignments, nullify the effect of Rahu/ Ketu the route will be prefect, the Gurutvakrshan/attraction of the Parabrahma will be irresistible and your self- identity will rise perfectly in one smooth motion.

(The descriptions are from older texts, from this description from the Devi Mahatmya, page no 162 of this Sanskrit e-text and a bit from my very limited understanding and experience.)

Chakras and their conscious energies

(There was a request for a post on the individual chakras, it took some time to frame it in simple words, but I hope this post was of help to you.)

Kundalini, the chakras and creation

I have written about the energy vertices/chakras and the energy lines/nadi running along the spine in this previous post. Six chakras from Muladhar to the Ajnya in the spine are said to be the lower ones and six more exist in the head and in the astral self above the skull, making 12 major chakras in total. There are several smaller chakras/vertices in the body, eg in your palms and soles of the feet. You can feel the whirring in your palms when you use Reiki or make a chi ball. Now a bit about some of the chakras and naadis of the head.

The Sushumna nadi/central high tension channel carries the thinner Vajrini inside it. Inside this is the even subtler Chitrini. Inside this is the subtlest Brahmanadi. When it reaches the head the Sushumna bifurcates. At the back of your skull where your neck ends, there is a small hollow, at this point the Sushumna divides into 2.

  • One portion of the Brahmanadi/highest tension channel, now continues straight to the top of the head till the top bindu and the brahmarandhra.
  • The other portion continues horizontally through the pineal gland till the third eye chakra. This third eye chakra point is called the Kuthastha and represents the meeting point of the 3 naadis, Sushumna, Ida and Pingala (the 3 high energy channels).
  • Now from the Kuthastha, the Brahmanadi alone continues through your forehead till it reaches the Brahmarandhra.
  • These 2 sections of the Brahmanadi, one from along the back of the head and one from along the forehead, now meet at the Brahmarandhra.
  • The top bindu, brahmarandhra and sahasrara chakras are interconnected one above the other at the top of your skull.

When the pran, followed by the energy of self identification, ie Kundalini, runs in these sections of the Brahmanadi and completes the circuit at the top bindu, the brahmarandhra will be accessible. The soul can then exit through it with full awareness and you get videha-mukti (death of the physical body + Moksha). If your soul does not want to exit and continue as an enlightened Guru for the benefit of others, the soul can continue in the body with full awareness in a state called Jivan-mukti. (Moksh while continuing in the body).

There are 3 chakras surrounding the top bindu located in an equilateral triangle around it. These are also locks and the pran first and the energy of self-awareness has to navigate these locks and open them. These are Vama, Jeyshtha and Raudri.

Kundalini, the chakras and creation

Let’s digress a bit now and see how creation occurs. Creation basically means the creation of the individual soul. When each individual soul gets created it then uses its own limited power of creation to further create its own personal Universe. The Creative Force of the Ultimate, basically creates the Soul/ Jivatma.

The origin of Creation is Vibrations. The Parabrahma creates Devi. The Parabrahma can be thought of as a Lamp and the Devi its Illumination. You cannot separate the two. If there is a lamp there will be its light and conversely. However the Lamp remains the source of the Light. But when the Parabrahma creates the Light (also called Prakruti) we will call the Source (Purush, as here duality has been created from the Eternal Singularity). So next, Devi creates the subtle resonance, Naada (There are 2 aspects of Naada each with specific attributes – Naadanta and Nirodhini ). Next created is Om, the pranava mantra, the ‘unstruck’ sound (sound was created but nothing was struck to create it), the primal vibration. You can perceive this subtle sound with your entire being. If you have had the fortune of sitting near a real enlightened Guru, the vibrations and the power from his aura is this.

Now the sequence is this Parabrahma – (Purush with) Devi – Naada – Om – to the next Bindu. Bindu is a ‘dot’, of compressed unimaginable potential energies. This would be the location of the topmost Bindu of your skull. This Bindu then divides into 3 energy points or chakras called Vama, Jeyshtha and Raudri. This triangle and the central bindu is responsible for our existence and all our actions.

  • Raudri represents the Kriya shakti, the energy of movement and helps the spiritual aspirant by destroying his karma balance sheet. However in the process of creation here is where your karmic balance sheet is created.
  • Jyeshta is linked to jnyana shakti and for the aspirant represents the subtle desire to seek knowledge of the self. At every point in the energy channel there are two possible directions for evolution, the inward moving/nivrutti and the outward moving/pravrutti. If you wish to seek the material you will move along the pravrutti direction and if you wish to seek the self you move in the nivrutti direction.
  • Vama represents the Iccha shakti, if the aspirant wishes to cross this chakra he has to terminate the seeds of the desire of seeking worldly pleasures. Or the other direction, when you are being created, this is where the desire for worldly experiences are linked into your Jivatma/individual soul. Whatever binds you also has the power to release you, the choice is always available to you.

Now at this level, the vibrations are still in the subtle planes, high in energy, not yet sufficiently lowered to be felt as the manifested gross. They are the subtle seeds. This portion in the Shriyantra geometry is the central dot and its surrounding equilateral triangle.

Next these 3 bindus together downshift their energy of subtle sound and create the Matrika/the deity considered as the creator of the sounds of the Sanskrit language (Devbhasha Samskrutam). Matrika produces her creations, the 16 Kala/’atom’, seeds of matter. The first fifteen kalas are the 15 vowels of Sanskrit (a, aa, e, ee, u, uu, rhu, rhuu, lhru, lhruu, ae, ai, o, au, am). The sixteenth kala is called the visarg  अ:/’aha’. The : sign is called a Visarg. This sixteenth kala is the source of all the consonants of Sanskrit.

When the Matrika produces her creations, the sounds, the original energy of creation moves further down as the energy structures of the Shatchakras, the six lower Chakras Ajnya, Vishuddhi, Anahata, Manipur, Swadhisthana and Muladhar are created. The consonants are now linked to the ‘lotus’ ‘petals’ of each of these chakras as beej mantras. These are still subtle seeds of creation not manifested.

The energy of vibrations is brought lower and lower and becomes more and more differentiated. Finally this subtle energy of self-identification is locked with the locks of the Kundalini and the entire structure of sound fixed into the Kurma-shila below the lowest Muladhar chakra. Thus the physical body is created out of vibrations. Now the 33 types of energies/33 koti devata, are used to lock the physical structure in all the possible dimensions of space/time etc.

Kundalini, the chakras and creation

Thus self awareness is brought down from the Parabrahma to the limited consciousness of the human soul. To go back to your original state of consciousness i.e. to experience Parabrahma again you have to reverse this entire process. The energy of self-identification has to be released from its kundalini locks and systematically brought up.

If the naadi route is perfectly harmonious with the original vibration that created it, the energy will just shoot up in an instant. You want to experience yourself, this desire is always there! The perfect structure looks like the Shrichakra in 2D or the Mahameru in 3D when seen from the top. The kundalini lock is at the very bottom, when the energy is released it has to navigate this maze like geometry in all possible dimensions. Each vertex of this yantra/energy diagram represents a complicated locking mechanism and the straight lines are extremely fine subtle energy lines millions of times thinner than your hair. Such a huge quantum of Kundalini energy has to be brought through these thinnest naadis and manoeuvred through each of those locks. Can you imagine the type of control you need to have on yourself? ‘Yourself’ here means your energy of self identification, Kundalini.

But as we have taken on karmas, their subtle influences have distorted our internal energy structure. It does not look like the perfect geometry anymore. So the best possible you can do is to focus on your practice and set your geometry right. The instant your energy geometry gets perfect the energy locked by the kundalini will rise in one smooth motion perfectly.

This was on how we are formed of Vibrations and are energy which is slowed down so much that it looks like matter.

Practicing Tratak using Shri Yantra

Tratak is a very simple and common exercise used to train the mind to remain absolutely still and without thoughts. This is how you do it.

On a white paper take a print of the Shriyantra. (preferably a line diagram) This is the energy geometry of your own self, use this always for any mediation etc where you need a focus point. While choosing an image to print remember that the central triangle is perfectly equilateral and the central dot/Bindu is in its exact center. Mark the central dot with a pen to make it clearly visible (If you use this image below, shade in the central dot completely and dark black.)shri yantra black and whiteDecide where you will sit, be comfortable. Paste this paper on the wall a few feet away from your seat at the eye level. Now steadily gaze at the central dot/Bindu without blinking your eyes, till your eyes start tearing up. When it becomes too much, close your eyes, you will see the after image of the dot and the geometry in your closed eyes. Then again open your eyes and stare at the dot without blinking. Repeat this exercise till you can stare for longer and longer times. The after-image in your closed eyes will become stronger and stronger and eventually the entire Yantra will remain imprinted in your closed eyes as an after image. (If you can sit in on your asan in a yogic posture like Siddhasan or Padmasan it will be faster, if you cannot for some reason, that also is ok.)

Here you are training your internal geometry also. You are showing your energy how it looks in its perfectly balanced state. You should do this steady gazing/Tratak as much as you can, start for one minute a day and gradually increase it. (One of my friends used to do this for hours and hours when we were children in school!) Soon your personal energy will start entraining itself with the Shri yantra geometry and resonating with it. Later you will also see how the 2-D paper geometry changes, becomes deeper adding more depth and dimensions to it. It is a wonderful experience!

When you do Dhyan and search for the gold/silver – flame/point of the third eye chakra within yourself, the forces of aakshep and vikshep interfere and push/pull your focus away from that specific point. (Aakshep means the energy which tosses aside, throws away with force, presents a challenge i.e. the tossing mind. Vikshep is the wandering mind, it means to scatter, to repel (exactly like same pole magnets), to disperse.)

If you have practiced doing Tratak on the Shriyantra these forces will be overcome faster and you will be able to access the opening of the Brahmanadi faster. And it is such a simple exercise!

Pranayam, the basic 3 methods

(Got this Comment on the contact form: Hello, I live in the USA. I grew up Christian but I am interested in the Indian Spirituality. It is difficult finding an Indian friend here because most live in India. Many times I have questions. Would you be interested in giving me direction when I have questions/maybe we can connect on facebook or email?? Your English is good! :)..

Hi there, I do not interact individually on fb/ email but if you have questions you can ask, and if I know the answer, I will respond. You can ask on this blog in any of the comment forms under the posts. 🙂

Personal faith and spiritual practice

I am an Indian and I follow the Sanatan Dharm (some call it Hinduism).

  • Sanatan means eternal, perpetual, unending, permanent, etc.
  • Dharm means nature, attribute, manner, essential, characteristic, rightness, to become, just, practice, ethics, morals, merit, good work, virtue, law, observe, foundation, established, firm, duty, devotion, mark, character, steadfast, etc.

There are only 2 requirements in this Sanatan Dharma/Hinduism.

  1. Follow your Dharm, do the action that you are supposed to do. And do it to your best possible capacity. There will naturally be constraints and limitations but if your conscience/Antaratma is satisfied that you have done your action, its all ok. You answer to your conscience, No One Else. Your conscience is your judge, your verdict and your prison or merit.
  2. You were born and as a result become a full-time resident of this living world/Martyalok. You are bound to your body. When you die, unless your body is completely dissolved into the fire (conscious energy of fire i.e. Agni) and the remaining ashes dissolved into the conscious energy of flowing water (Aap), you will still be stuck with it. So the 16th Sanskar (appropriate action), is cremation/Anteyshti (last desirable action) of the discarded body. This cleanly separates the soul from the old life and it can move forward into its next life.

Personal faith and spiritual practice

Now I am a Jyotishi and come from a family of astrologers, I have seen my both grandmothers and then my Dad too in their counselling with clients and also doing their spiritual practices. India has several types of peoples who follow different faiths, Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Parsis, Christians, Buddhists, Jews, Lingayat, tribal/nature Gods, etc. I have friends/clients from each of these faiths and some atheists too who believe in their own self. Frankly from the Jyotish point of view and even from the spiritual point of view all this is immaterial, of no consequence at all. You can believe in whatever you want to, that is your personal choice. If your conscience is ok with what you are doing its good. If not then you have created new karma and it will be resolved in the future or in your next lives. Each is responsible for his/her own actions and own self.

I have observed that there is a trend in which aggressive people belonging to religious groups, faiths, cults etc are brain-washing/forcing others to follow their group’s philosophies. This is not correct as no one can force others in this aspect. This is not Dharma. And they are creating negative karma for themselves. This is a very severe deep wrong on the moral level. Cheating another on spiritual matters is the worst crime which a soul can commit. And will manifest as a pitr dosh in their families/descendants and also will follow them wherever they take birth in their future lives. That is the result of their morally wrong choice of coercing others. They will have to rebalance this karma later.

Now if in this life if you are a follower of whatever faith, do follow it as per your conscience. We all need crutches to help us on our way. Take inspiration from the enlightened masters your family/religion follows. Do read the books of your faith if you feel they are correct. But do not let anything you read stop your sense of inquiry. You have to ask, you have to question, you have to find your answers for yourself. Each one is different, with different thought processes and perceptions. You have to find the answer which makes sense to you. But what is the Question?

One of the attributes/names of Mahamaya/Creative force of the Parabrahma/Ultimate Consciousness is ‘Kaa’. All Ved, Upanishad, etc ask this question ‘Kaa?’, ‘Who?’. So this is the question you have to ask yourself, Who am I?. Only when you ask this question will you know the answer. First ask! So read everything that your faith has to offer, listen to the discourses, do the rituals but keep on asking ‘Who?’ ‘Kaa?’. Desire that experience of Yourself with all your intensity and focus.

(‘Kaa’ = Ka + Aa, is a Sanskrit word. Every Sanskrit sound has 2 aspects, the inward moving/Nivrutti and the outward moving/Pravrutti. One confers knowledge/experience of the self and the other of the manifested externals. There are 54 sounds in Sanskrit, each with their 2 meanings gives 108, the ‘magic number’.

  • ‘Kaa’ means the unfathomable unknowable depth, time, the tremendous energy which is hidden, the unknown behind the Illumination/light. Also removal of misery and sorrow.
  • and also the manifested forces of nature which combine to create the Universes. The magic and enchantment created by Mahamaya
  • The associated Mantra is Om Kaayai namah.)

You have to focus intensely, single pointedly on Who? Kaa? You have to focus on You. This you is the central Bindu of the Shriyantra geometry. This in your physical body is inside your head at the middle of your eyebrows. So how can you increase your focus? How do you silence your mind for long enough that you can experience the real you? Your mind is like a whirlwind, ripples on water, unstable, fast, changeable! Are you your mind? Are you your body? No you are not. You are something else altogether Who? Kaa?

Still your body and silence your mind, only then your Real Self will be visible.

There is only one way you will progress in your spiritual path, do your Dhyan. Sit on your Asan, sit still and silence your mind. Focus on yourself/ Center of eyebrows, the anjya chakra. Breathe 108 times with your Mantra Om/ Soham/ Hamsa. Faith is one thing and spirituality is another. Spirituality is not reading and talking about wow! esoteric stuff, that would be just faking it. The day your Conscience tells you that the right action is to practice, you listen and start doing it. Spirituality is practice.

Each one of us will ultimately do Dhyan, some might be doing it already, some will do it in this life, some a few lives later. But there is no other way. We all will open the locks on our kundalini, walk through the highest high tension energy channel Brahmanadi towards our Reality.

Personal faith and spiritual practice

There was a comment with a lot of personal details. “I never thought that I would happen to read all these articles you have posted. I am 43……………….May God bless you

Thank you for the compliment. However I do not do full-fledged horoscope readings anymore, but you are an astrologer yourself so pointing out a few combinations which to me are significant for spiritual growth. In the physical world you are well off, respected in society, comfortable in life.

  1. D- 1 – physical level – Sagittarius asc – with Jupiter/asc lord and Ketu/moksh karak in 5th – internal dissociation from physical identity/environment. You do everything but internally detached. Creativity/divine intelligence unlimited. No ego. At 48yrs of age, Ketu/Jupiter will both mature, so many many channels of divine inspiration will open, use them wisely. Venus in 3rd/internal confidence, you question your family’s faith because you somehow know differently. Saturn sadesati is on. Saturn transit in Sagi, Capr, Aqua will cause emotional upheaval focussed around family/resources. Use your time well to consolidate. Saturn is with Ketu in Sagi till Jan 2020, take care of your bones, etc parts ruled by Saturn and overall. Transit Jupiter/Saturn will speed up healing later.
  2. D-9 – in the subconscious – Jup 9th house/Taurus, you know the real philosophy which you should live by, trust your internal self. Ketu 2nd house/Libra detached from the ‘fruits’ of your existence.  Rahu 8th/Aries gives capacity to manipulate vital energy/pran, if you do something like Dhyan it will help in bringing it to the physical level. Debilitated Sun with Ketu, cut off from personal ego. Practice seeing auras or spiritual practice etc with your eyes closed and in the dark.
  3. You like travelling (Asc lord and Moon in Moveable signs) so may wish to live in the Himalayas etc, but you have the ocean near you, an equally powerful source of energy, if you can regularly visit the sea shore, it has tremendous pran available, Close your eyes, breathe in gold/silver milky shimmery energy breathe out brown/black negativity.
  4. Wishing you all the best in your studies and in Life!

Shri sukta, first verse

The Devi//Prakriti is the creative force of the Parabrahma/Ultimate consciousness. The Ultimate is inert and manifests the creative principle only when the intention of Leela/Creation arises. (Nasadiya Sukta Rg Ved 10th mandala 129th sukta describes how creation occurred). Those aspirants on the spiritual path desirous of Moksh/Experience of the Ultimate, first worship this creative force in all its names, forms with mantra, yantra and tantra. Everyone is supposed to recite the Gayatri mantra 108 times from the age of 6yrs onwards, I use this mantra in several ways. But the mantra I love is the navavarna mantra. And then is the Shrisukta which grants prosperity in all ways, it is 15 verses long. Shri means ‘prosperity’ and sukta means an ‘apt description’.

(The gender indicative words are meaningless as these are energies. However at the simplest explanation, ‘still’ energies are referred to as masculine and the energies ‘in movement’ are referred to as feminine)

Shri sukta, first verse

This sukta in very clear language describes the energy, kundalini and other locks, brahmanadi and what happens when the locks on self-identification open etc. There are 53 attributes of the Devi described in this sukta. The 54th is ‘Om’ an open secret. Om is used so easily these days that we forget its immensity. It is the only sound created by the mouth where the tongue is not involved. Will write more about this later, let’s continue with Her attributes.

The first attribute is Hiranyavarana. It has several meanings,

  • Hiranya means indestructible, inert, fire, gold etc. Varna means the ‘door on the opening’, sound, color, etc. Thus name means that She is the impregnable covering on the opening of the Brahmanadi. i.e. the kundalini and associated locking structures.
  • It is also a reference to the humming sound associated with the muladhar chakra. She exists in all living beings (hi) and makes a sound (varna) like a humming bumble bee (ranya). (If you close shut your ears you can hear your chakras, huming, rippling water, tinking of tiny bells, deep gong etc, if you are doing your spiritual practice you can hear 12 distinct sounds.)
  • Prajapati (from the 33 koti devata), uses this energy in binding the human soul/jeevatma to the body.
  • This can be opened by the mantra, ‘Om Hiranyavarnayai namah’.

Harini is the second attribute. It means beloved of ‘Hari’, or a golden doe.

  • When you do your dhyan deeply, you see a yellowish light. When you are unaware of what this means it can randomly appear and be visible. But the instant you recognise it for what it means, it will vanish. It will dance at the edge of your vision, tantalising. Capturing it again in the center of your vision is the challenge. (Forces of akshep and vikshep interfere, whenever you try to focus these forces pull/push your focus away). It is like catching a female deer. This is caused by disturbances of the swadhisthana chakra. (ripple-like karma related to the fluid emotions)
  • Thus her attribute Harini.
  • Only when you attain complete awareness with conscious effort, keeping the mind in complete control, will the upper opening of the Sushumna be visible steadily.
  • The mantra here is ‘Om Harinyai namah’.

Third attribute Suvarna-sraja. Su (auspicious) + varna + sraj (garland, one who creates)

  • She creates the garland of auspicious sounds, properly recited sounds of correct metre. i.e. the beej mantras of the chakra system, the 54 sounds of Sanskrit, the golden garland.
  • To reach each of these beej mantras, a specific ‘sacrifice’ is required. i.e. to attain the spiritual you have to give up the material.
  • She is the source of the creation as vibrations.
  • The embodiment of the most secretive mystery which resides at the very base of the Meru danda/below the muladhar chakra. This is the source of all prosperity. This is the lower opening of the brahmanadi, as this is the source of all prosperity in the spiritual sense.
  • The mantra here is Om Suvarnasraje namah.

The fourth attribute is Rajatasraja. Rajat means silver, gold, nakshatra, blood etc.

  • She is the creator of Rajat. She fixes the body with the energy of the nakshatra (Prabhas – one of the 33 types of energy).
  • The name Rajatsraj is also the collective name of the 11 Rudras who make up the body. (Rudras are also part of 33 classes of deities). She is the creator of the Rudras too.
  • The mantra here is Om Rajatasraje namah

The fifth attribute is Chandraa.

  • Chandraa means the whirling of time/space, delight, vibrations of happiness in the mind, melting, rising moon, illumination, the internal moon, the unfathomable ocean of consciousness within the brahmanadi.
  • It is also the canopy/covering that covers the Ultimate. She is so brilliant that one can get caught quite forgetting that there is something even more magnificent hidden behind her light.
  • When your internal self/Ksheer-samudra, is churned by the forces of Rahu/Ketu, desire/apathy, the gem of self-knowledge appears. The internal Moon/Chandra is the light which indicates that She is about to appear. The force called the ‘Moon’ is an infinitesimal fraction of Her force.
  • Om Chandraayai namah brings this bliss.

Her sixth name is Hiranmayi.

  • Hiran is again ‘sound’. ‘mayi’ means pervading. She exists from the basal chakra to the 12th dwadash chakra and beyond into the dwadashant as their beej mantra individually and the pranav mantra/Om collectively.
  • She is the primordial sound/Om, and resides at the center of creation. Creation here in the spiritual sense is your chakra system and the brahmanadi.
  • Om Hiranmayyi namah is her mantra here.

Her seventh name is Laxmi.

  • It has several meanings including distinguishing trait, mark, sign, splendour, fortune, dominion, success, formula etc.
  • She gives (la), despatches and directs (root word-kship). She is sent out from the Parabrahma. And she further sends out the energy of creation and directs evolution of the souls.
  • She is the reason there exists ‘difference’. See, you and me are essentially the same Parabrahma. What makes us different is the power of Laxmi. Laxmi also creates a difference between the jivatma/us and our real nature/Parabrahma. Laxmi is power we use when we act/do karma.
  • And her other face, la also means ‘to dissolve’. Thus she can also dissolve the outward appearances for the aspirant. And also herself dissolves into the Parabrahma when the game/Leela is over.
  • Om Laxmyai namah is her mantra here.

These names are in the first verse of the Shri sukta. The verse ends with ‘jaatvedo maavaha’. ‘Jaat’ means collection, kind, possesses, belonging to, caused by, apparent in, created by, born, manifested, arisen, creatures, result etc. ‘Ved’ means knowledge, perception, obtains, true, real, feeling, property etc. So here this phrase you are inviting/invoking the One who is the ‘true collection of real knowledge’ to bring to you all the 54 attributes of Shri.

The Shri sukta is glorious, the rhythm of the words enter your soul. I love this, have done its jaap, homa and listened to it endlessly. (Doing its Homa/jaap especially during eclipses is quite fruitful). This is a very inadequate post on its meanings. Some are from the Laxmi tantra and some of them are my understanding. Everything is Shri.

Current Rahu/Ketu transit in Gemini/Sagittarius

This is a brief post on analysing transits. I have written a previous post on transits of Rahu/Ketu here. They are in perpetual retrograde motion so as to replay the lessons of your life, this enables you to learn them very deeply. Rahu/Ketu work intensely on the psychological and inner spiritual levels. Now the recent transit (March 2019 to September 2020) of Rahu/Ketu into the 3rd/9th sign Gemini owned by Mercury and Sagittarius owned by Jupiter has already started giving startling events around the world. Gemini and Sagittarius are quite suitable environments for Rahu/ Ketu, some astrologers consider them exalted here. Thus their effects are going to be very intense and extreme. Rahu-Ketu work at the deepest levels, through sudden and unpredictable events.

Consider the world events and also your personal events which occurred 18 yrs ago, between 2000-2002. Go back in your life 18yrs to evaluate what had happened, what was its effect on you physically, emotionally and spiritually. Something similar will happen again.

The last time, 18yrs ago from July 2000 to Feb-2002, world events included, the dot-com bubble burst, Concorde flight crash and the company’s bankruptcy, launch of Wikipedia, first iPod launched by Apple, Mir space station brought down, the world’s first space tourist, hijacked planes, terrorist attacks on World Trade Center etc, deaths of thousands, thus mindset of the world changed permanently, a continuing ‘war on terrorism’ which strangely continues till date, Euro notes/coins entered public circulation as a powerful new currency, cyborg tech successfully developed, etc. So you had your Mercury, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu keywords being reflected quite nicely back then, and somewhat similar things will happen now.

Rahu in Gemini, the natural 3rd house of the zodiac will cause the following, use the keywords and interlink them to get these readings.

  1. Rahu in the house of Mercury will cause anxiety, depression, addictions, suicidal thoughts and other psychological problems caused by ‘over-stimulation’ and ‘over-thinking’. Mercury is highly adaptable and responds to events quite successfully, but rapid and high intensity changes cause him to burn out.
  2. Increase in risky behaviour triggered in same-age groups causing accidents. E.g a same-age/family/friends group goes for an adventure trail, trek, picnic etc and gets into an accident.
  3. Teenagers are very impressionable individuals and under the influence of Rahu will be involved in risky activities maybe crime or drugs etc. Disguises and concealments. Parents/teachers unable to communicate effectively with their teenage kids.
  4. The flow of information, intelligence, database management, information analysis will be affected. In short there will be misinformation and misunderstandings on all levels. Cheating in financial sectors; banking sector will be hit with scams and cybercrime, people will lose trust in banks.
  5. Pollution caused by information networks will reach dangerous levels, this will include subtle radiation to discordant noises. The world will be a noisier place with all shouting for attention.
  6. Increase diseases related chest, heart and lungs. Also incurable and strange diseases will increase. Faulty diagnosis will increase and inappropriate medication given.

Rahu will conjunct Mars, both malefics during May-June 2019. Severe results again with Mars intensifying Rahu with his aggression, competitiveness, rage and high energy at all levels possible, tempers will remain high and will snap. e.g. wars, road rage, local fights, raised voices in the house etc. (Mars will aspect Ketu too during this period, thus fueling his energies too.)

Current Rahu/Ketu transit in Gemini/SagittariusNow Ketu in Sagittarius. Here we already have Saturn and he will move out into Capricorn in Jan 2020. So till then, Ketu and Saturn both malefics are together. Ketu has become even more powerful with extremely increased ability to give his ‘separative’ results. So be prepared for separations at every level, mental, physical spiritual. (Saturn will be aspecting Rahu during this period, adding to his energy, one result could be that people will take calculated risks.)

  1. Foundations of life for many will be shaken and torn apart. This may mean more divorces, or abandonment issues, teachers going rogue, students not learning etc. Priests/pandits will not perform well, and rituals done may not bear fruit. People will question established religions and rituals.
  2. These life shaking detachment type of events will turn several to internal spirituality. (more after Jan 2020 when just Jupiter and Ketu are together, Saturn moves on)
  3. Universities and institutes of higher learning, religious schools, monasteries etc will fail to perform or come into disrepute. Temples, monasteries etc may be physically demolished even.
  4. The patrons, peer groups and paternal figures will not cooperate, create tensions and abandon. Those who are supposed to guide will not. Guidance will come from inside only if people listen.
  5. If you have any pitr/ancestor related problems due, they can erupt. 9th sign is linked to them too.
  6. People will be disconnected from religion, humanitarian views, philosophy and will act selfishly and without fear of spiritual repercussions/Karma.
  7. Jupiter enters his own sign Sagittarius for 2 months, in Mar-April 2019 giving some relief. But he is moving forward/retrograde going back into Scorpio. However he will then transit into Sagittarius from Nov 2019 onwards giving his direction also to the headless Ketu and make the restrictions of Saturn a bit bearable.
  8. Feb 2020 – Mar 2020 will see Mars with Ketu so again a double dose of aggression and martian energies which will generally be misdirected (headless Ketu’s influence). Jupiter’s influence will be able to set things right sooner though.

These were very general readings. For analysing your own personal chart I have written about it in my earlier post. But here is a quick recap

  1. Your birth chart. Check out where Rahu is placed, which house, which sign and with which planets. He will link his ‘overreach and then fall on the face’, trend with each of their results too.
  2. If your birth chart has a complete or a partial kaal sarpa, the effects of Rahu/Ketu are more intensified.
  3. Check out which Mahadasha/Main period and antardasha/sub-period you are on. What are the general background influences that you can expect. If you are undergoing periods of Ketu or Rahu be careful. (Or Saturn, Mars or Sun, the natural malefics when they conjunct with Rahu/Ketu in transit together)
  4. Which houses in your chart are Rahu/Ketu occupying during their transit? i.e Where are Gemini/Sagittarius placed? This will tell you which karma you are going to be pulled towards/Rahu, and which aspects of life you are going to be separated from/Ketu.
    • (Ketu transiting in 4th house has caused deaths of the mother for 2 of my clients last year. For another, he sold off his ancestral farmlands).
    • (Rahu in 10th for one client ensured that his father came to live with him permanently etc)
  5. If your age is the multiples of 18 yrs, you will undergo Rahu/Ketu return where they occupy the same position as your birth chart. Extreme karmic events will unfold.
  6. Now during the overall 18 month Rahu/Ketu transit, there will be short term transits of the other planets, Sun, Moon etc. So look out for the eclipses and periods around them. They will change the results of Sun/Moon and depending on their positions in your transit chart give extreme results.
  7. The other planets will also transit over these Rahu/Ketu for shorter periods, so their results will also be affected by the Rahu/Ketu presence/conjunction. Especially be alert during the conjunction of malefics in transit.

Gemini and Sagittarius will obviously affected badly. Next intensity is for Cancer and Capricorn, these folks should take special care of their health. Scorpio and Taurus will also face typical times. If your ascendant falls in these signs you should take care of your physical body/environment, if the Moon falls in these then your emotional status will be out of balance. (These signs fall in the dushamsthana 6-8-12 axis from the transiting position of Rahu/Ketu).

In case there are problems, often a 108 repeat of the beej mantras of Rahu/Ketu on Tuesdays/Saturdays will help in balancing out their energies.
