Manifestation can be cute

Manifestation is such a catch word these days! Everyone wants to manifest true love, health, wealth, vacations, new dresses, anything  under the Sun. And it is all hyped up too. Apparently you need to be a lightworker, energy manipulator and what-not to be able to manifest your desires. And there are a load of classes and astrologers who will ‘help’ you manifest your desires after charging a hefty fee of course!

Am penning this fun post for you to try manifesting stuff at home yourself, and have some fun in the process, with Lego! Surprised? Don’t be, manifestation is your will and your intention channelized to get what you desire. You can power your intention using various ways, mantras, reiki, chi-balls, prayers, meditation or Faith.

So let’s start. On a day when you have some free time, get your favourite Lego set out. Get your most appealing glitter pen set and a paper. Face east or north. Keep all this in front of you, get comfortable. Think of your favourite deity/Reiki/Universe/the source of your Faith. If you feel like singing a hymn or a mantra or doing any ritual or not, it is all upto you. Then write out your desire in simple words on the paper and focus on it. Be happy, admire the ink and your handwriting. Be in an uplifted mood when you do this. Now open the box and touch the Lego pieces. Feel your intention enter the pieces. Feel the joy that you will feel as your desire manifests. Talk to the Lego pieces, soak them in your intention and your confidence to create. Then slowly with all focus set the lego pieces and get to creating, enjoy yourself. As you make your lego model, visualise your desires also manifesting in the physical world. After you finish keep this model somewhere where you can see it for a minimum 21 days. (You can then dismantle your set if you want to and reuse it to manifest a new desire.)

If you are into art and crafts, if you can create, i.e. paint, knit, crochet, carpentry, you can associate your intention and desires with any of the pieces you can easily create. If you cook, intend your desire while you are cooking and eat what you have made! Healthy soups were made on these same theory. Cooking soup for a loved one required a lot of stirring, and the woman cooking it would intend love and health all the while stirring it, energising it. You are the Creator, use any of the tools at your disposal. Act, your tiniest action powered with your entire Will, has Power!

You are in control of yourself, never forget that. You have immense powers to manifest your own desires. You are the Creator yourself.

Exalted and debilitated, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury

I have written about the other exalted and debilitated planets in my previous posts here and here. In this one will write about Jupiter, Venus and Mercury. Basically exalted/ucch planets are when the energies of the planet exactly matches the energy of his environment rashi where he is placed in the horoscope. And debilitated/neech is when his energies exactly mis-match the energies of his environment rashi/sign.

Jupiter is exalted in Cancer and debilitated in Capricorn

Jupiter is the benevolent lord of expansion. He is the humanist and the philosopher. He is the teacher of knowledge and patiently guides his students to enlightenment. He is most comfortable when he has no restrictions on his nature to expand and teach.

Cancer/Karka – This is the watery sign owned by the agent of the mind, the Moon. The Moon and Jupiter are good friends. Cancer represents the depths of emotions, intuition and perceptions thus it offers no limits to Jupiter’s tendency to expand in every possible way. Cancer is also a maternal sign and loves providing security and stability. Jupiter uses these characteristics of this sign to provide support in terms of philosophy, theory  and knowledge. He also likes to provide structure to the external expressions of religion, as rites and rituals. His students become his children and his guidance is appreciated. Jupiter acts as a lens through which all the life events are experienced. He becomes the perfect teacher in Cancer and thus feels validated and exalted.

Capricorn/Makar – This rashi belongs to the strict disciplinarian Saturn. Obsessed with the stratified social hierarchies, work, money and power. Jupiter here finds no takers for his philosophy and  humanitarian approach. Prosaic hard work and involvement in the materialistic saps his energy. Instead of teaching philosophy and laying foundations of human life he is forced to work for social mobility. He is selfless, wants to raise awareness of humanity itself but here has to ensure his selfish material growth. Jupiter is suffocated here, trying to fit in an environment utterly contrary to his true nature. Saturn too tries to restrict, constrict and structure the Lord of expansion and miserably fails.

Exalted and debilitated, Jupiter, Venus and Mercury

Venus is exalted in Pisces and debilitated in Virgo

Venus is the best teacher of them all. He garbs his lessons as pleasures, the external trappings of beauty, companionship, food, drink and sex. Then waits till you get tired of this array of pleasures and then offers you some more. This goes on till you realise that the best possible relationship is with yourself and your real self is the most beautiful of them all, that is when he gives his real gift of self-realization and self-knowledge.

Pisces/Meen – This environment brings out the best in Venus. The owner of Pisces, Jupiter and Venus are both Gurus, one teaches the esoteric the other the conventional, and as per the stories they have been classmates. Though their students now continuously war with each other (Daitya v/s Devata) they themselves are on quite amicable terms. Only when both the Gurus are in harmony can final enlightenment be possible. They have their own differing view-points but in Pisces, they balance themselves and come to an agreement. Pisces also is the end of the zodiac, this represents ‘settlement of everything’ in the broadest sense possible. Also here Venus can explore the deepest range of the secret, esoteric, sub-conscious and the unknowable. Thus Venus in Pisces provides the ideal environment for Venus to express all aspects of his personality, mundane, spiritual, esoteric, secrets and beauty in all ways!

Virgo/Kanya – This is the house of Mercury, the impressionable adolescent. Venus placed in Virgo finds himself at a loss. The sign is too immature and too involved in details to understand his deep esoteric teachings and sense of aesthetics. Surrounded by details and data he does not know what to make of them. He likes to make alliances and partnerships but in Virgo he told to use the data for arguments, nit-picking and blame-games. He wants to arrive at agreements but the juvenile and nervous nature of the sign does not allow him. He is bogged down with unfair demands to attend. He has debts to serve and enemies at his back. This house represents the loss of harmony in every which way and the Lord of Balance himself is off-balance here.Mercury is exalted in Virgo and debilitated in Pisces

Mercury is the use that we put our intelligence to. Databases, details, interpretations and conclusions are the domain of Mercury. He is very susceptible to influences from other planets but his primary desire is to collect data, organise it and then use it as a reference point . He uses his databases to interpret his life experiences. He is still a youngster and rebels against authority and loves juvenile chit-chat and meaningless arguments.

Pisces/Meen – This is the expansive and bottomless watery sign of Jupiter. Mercury feels uncomfortable with him and Jupiter dislikes Mercury’s juvenile antics. Chatty conversations are not very welcome in the reflective, dreamy, imaginative Pisces. Give an adolescent too much freedom with no structure and you have a Mercury in Pisces. Pisces is watery, nothing solid for him to hold onto. His data and details are like the silvery fish slipping from his hands. His databases sink to the depths of the sub-conscious and he is confused. He does know, he is the lord of mental ability himself, but Pisces refuses him the structure that he needs. He cannot articulate himself properly, cannot communicate. He leaps from one topic to another without logic and tends to mix data from his own material world and the imaginary worlds of Pisces. His audience may be entertained but refuse to take him seriously.

Virgo/Kanya – In his own house Mercury is ultra-happy, he has his own room to himself. He can play with his data and details, get his friends for a sleep-over or eat food on the bed, no one to continually look at what he is upto. He has the structure that he requires and he can re-structure and re-organize till he is satisfied with his efficiency. His geeky smart nature comes up strong, his computers, his analytics, his database and he is prepared to analyse any sort of information, very objective. He is the brilliant thinker, always prepared for every question and is clarity of thought himself. He controls the inventory of the Zodiac at his fingertips. Logic, precise thinking, technical, multi-dimensional analysis, he can deliver anything and everything. Communicating with confidence he is 24/7 and 365 days of pure mind.

The 27 Lunar Mansions, Nakshatra

A 13deg 20sec division of the zodiac is called a Lunar Mansion or a Nakshatra. As per the stories, Daksha Prajapati had 27 daughters/Nakshatra whom he married off to Chandra/Moon. The Moon takes about 1 day to cross one Nakshatra.

The Nakshatras are extremely important markers in astrology and some of the ways they are used are as follows.

  1. Each nakshatra has 4 parts/pada and thus there are 108 Nakshatra-pada in the Zodiac. 108 is the Vedic ‘magic’ number. Mantras are chanted 108 times generate high energy which is then channelised to your intention.
  2. Our names are as per the Swar Siddhanta. Each nakshatra-pada has a sound allocated to it. We name our children as per the syllables/Akshara associated with the Moon Nakshatra pada he/she was born in. Though some may use the sound syllable associated with Ascendant or the Sun nakshatra-padas. The tables are widely available on-line.
  3. Matching of bride/groom charts for marriage is primarily done by matching the birth Moon Nakshatra-pada. It is an amazingly accurate system and actually works beautifully. The tables are also quite widely available.
  4. Each Nakshatra has a planetary Lord. The sequence of the planetary owners is Ketu, Venus, Sun, Moon, Mars, Rahu, Jupiter, Saturn, and Mercury which repeats three times, thus each planet owns 3 Nakshatras. The Nakshatra lords of the Moon Nakshatra and the ascendant Nakshatra play important roles in your life.
  5. Each Nakshatra also has an associated Nakshatra Devata. These devatas are correspondingly 27 in number and have a very subtle but deep effect on every aspect of your psychology and spiritual life. In fact if you can remember your Moon’s and Ascendant’s Nakshatra Devatas during your daily puja, it will be quite beneficial.
  6. Our human life-time is calculated as 120 years. These 120 yrs are divided into several parts/Mahadasha, and sub-parts, Antardasha, Pratyantardasha and even tinier units of time, till every second of your life can be mapped. These units of time are owned by the planets. These dashas are used to time events. The birth Moon Nakshatra planetary owner decides start of the Dasha count.
  7. Nakshatras change daily and are one of the 5 parameters in deciding an auspicious time/muhurta, for marriage, buying a house, car, entering a house, starting a business etc (the other 4 are the day, karan, yog and tithi).
  8. Finally the name of the Nakshatra is a mantra in itself. Saying aloud the name of the Nakshatra of the day increases health. (There is a Shani Mahakaal Mryutyunjai stotram a quite powerful stotra where using the nyas mantras, we place the energy of the Nakshtras, yogas, karanas, days, months, planets, rashis, years and all the units of time in various body parts of the body. I utterly love Shani so have done this several times just for his happiness.)

The 27 Lunar Mansions, Nakshatra

How do you find out your ascendant’s and Moon’s Nakshatras? In any Vedic/Indian horoscope it will be clearly marked out and modern software also clearly mention them. So do check these out.

In Vedic astrology, a complete reading of the chart will consider the birth Moon’s nakshatra. We consider the Moon to be paramount as he controls the mind, emotions and perceptions. Whatever happens to us is perceived and experienced through the Moon, the emotional filter of life. The Moon works through the 27 Nakshatra ‘filters’, these are not rational or logical, but intuitive, psychological and subtle. These are the linkages of your past lives and the framework of your present life. The life choices that you make in this life are linked to your birth Moon Nakshatra and to some extent to your birth Ascendant Nakshatra. If you live a more materialistic life with no spiritual back-up, you will not be aware of these signals. You might feel a general guidance but you will not be able to actively interact with your Nakshatra energies. Thus for an average human the Nakshatras will fix the your fate. But if you tend to be spiritually inclined and have a sense of the grander purpose of your life, you can actively use the energies of your Nakshatras, their lords and devatas.

If you observe yourself carefully you can reduce all your life’s activities to one or two action words. These action words are a reflection of your Nakshatra energies. The Moon rules the enormity of the astral, the sub-conscious, so it makes sense to divide his humongous domain into the 27 sub-domains of the Nakshatras. I have tried to reduce the natures of these 27 into small keywords which perhaps maybe will be useful. These describe the innermost tendencies and desires. Often your client will not even be aware of them but they will rule his life and influence his every action.

There is one more Nakshatra, ‘Abhijit’, this is a masculine nakshatra, ruled by Brahma the Creator himself and reflects the creative principle of Divinity. This is not used for general astrological analysis but in special calculations e.g. in drawing the ashtapadmadala chakra. When it is used, it is inserted at serial number 22, with each the following nakshatra shifting one serial number ahead to give a total of 28 nakshatras.

Abhijit rules over the 28 minutes before and after midday and also 28 minutes before and after midnight. This is called the Abhijit muhurta and is considered quite auspicious.

For example Chitra, the shining jewel of the zodiac, owned by Mars. Such a person will internally want to compete with and outshine others. His devata is Vishwakarma/Tvashtra, the celestial architect, he will want to build, create works of beauty, it may be expressed as a book, or a building or the systematic arrangement of his room. But the beauty will have a purpose, power and danger too. He will be continually rearranging his mental and emotional processes till he is satisfied by its beauty and power. He is wedded to his work. This nakshatra is most likely to remain unmarried or if married not too involved with his spouse (preferring a silent submissive spouse in fact!). He finds his fulfilment when he creates beauty coupled with power.

Another example Uttara Bhadrapada: Ruled by the serpent of the deep unconscious, Ahirbudhnya Ouroboros. The Saturn has an agenda of structured work in the astral realms. The native knows a lot, but in the astral, of the astral. He consumes his manifested vitality and lives it out in the sub-conscious states. These individuals seem hazy, spaced out, but in the astral they are kings. They have the capacity to do anything in the astral. Beware of making enemies of these seemingly ‘drugged’ individuals, they wont even know what they can do to retaliate in return. One client had after the death of his enemy, tracked his soul on his way to the Pitrulok and trapped him in a bubble, so that he could never reach there, nor take another birth, presumably still trapped there. (Guided meditaion sometimes gives such stranger than fiction pasts!)

It is beyond my scope to write in detail on each individual nakshatra in this limited blog post, however will try to in my future posts. Just this tiny post to remind that Nakshatras are very important and in Vedic system you have to consider 2 nakshatras, the birth moon’s nakshatra and the rising ascendant nakshatra, else your analysis is incomplete.

Booked an astrology session? Read this

I get this question from clients, “my sis-in-law does not know that I have come here with her birth details, can you tell me —- about her?”. In this privacy obsessed world, this question comes across as a bit off! I mean, why should anyone carry her sis-in-law’s chart to an astrologer and ask him whats going on in her life? But this happens a lot. ‘What is my ex-boyfriend doing’ to ‘who is my father-in-law going to leave his wealth to’. Astrology has deviated from its original form of Jyotish, and some astrologers will answer these questions quite easily and also charge quite a bit of money.

There is no privacy in the Universe. We are all interconnected so very deeply that we can know everything about everyone if only we care to ask. You ‘see’ a lot about other persons in your daily life, you are just not aware that you do it. You ‘see’ extra things. Your sub-conscious is always at work, providing you background data about the persons/places you are interacting with. This is your ‘gut-feel’. We astrologers and Readers, channelise this gut-feel actively and use it intentionally to ‘see’ more about the clients. I use about 75% from the charts in front of me and 25% from my intuition/sub-conscious. I can also use 100% from my intuition, but that would be quite creepy for the client and tiring for me!

So when you visit an astrologer, card reader, aura reader, palm reader or anyone who can read/divine things about you, do understand that he will ‘see’ everything about you. There are no secrets. Your horoscope contains details on your present life/death, your past lives, your emotions, your finances, your likes/dislikes, everything. Your wife/husband may not know if you are cheating on her/him, but your astrologer will. A sensible astrologer will always be careful with what he says and how much information he shares. If he is unscrupulous, he will use your data to get you dependant on him. Knowing which buttons to push, he can use you. So first point, visit someone who is trustworthy. Get some details on him from your friends, or call him first to get an idea of what kind of a person he is, use your ‘gut-feel’. This has become just like any other profession now, so take care.

Another trend is astrology discussion groups. Discussions on combinations and planets and events anonymously is one thing, but posting complete birth details in public is something else altogether! I see this happening on Facebook so very often. Several posts on synastry and overlapping charts and “how is my relationship going to be with my new boyfriend”, with random strangers then commenting. Most likely the boyfriend does not know about this post in public! He might see it later and get angry with you. And the vibrations from such a large number of strangers dissecting both the charts and their good/bad/indifferent comments will disturb both you and your boyfriend on a deep level. Not a good idea.

Do no evil! It is such a cliche but it is so true. If you approach an energy worker to do something negative against your boss, remember that you too will be a victim of the same things sooner or later. There are people who use their talents to get money rather than genuinely help people.

When you go to an astrologer, you are prepared to tell anything and everything. And are also looking forward to listen to all the ‘juicy secrets’ hidden in your chart. So go alone, even your husband/wife/best friend will act as a barrier to a really good session. You cannot go talk about your innermost secrets in front of your bff! Also do not go home and discuss what you learnt with your bff. Rather record the session, so that you can refer back to it later. Select your Reader and your questions carefully. You are sacrificing your privacy in a big way, so the outcomes should be worth it. Check out if your session has actually helped you. Did your astrologer give you some vague generic answers or did you relate to what was discussed there. Some questions to ponder.

  • How do you see yourself? Your moods, motivations, apathies, attractions, actions and behaviour.
    • Has the reading helped you understand yourself better?
  • How do you see things and other people around you? Do you get bogged down in details and lost in the whole or vice versa?
    • Has the reading helped you re-balance your perceptions, get a more balanced view?
  • You change, every day. You try to change your circumstances, but it often requires more resources than you may have. You try to change your husband/child but its realistically not possible. You can however change your world-view by working on yourself.
    • Has the Reader allowed you a chance to sit back, relax and gain wisdom from his analysis of your chart? Has this reading helped you change for the better?
  • Sometimes you are at cross-roads, not sure of your purpose in life and you have problems.
    • Has the Reader made you aware of your available assets, plus-points, and the new directions in life and possible solutions?
  • Finally, has the reading resonated with you? Have you felt it to be right? And can you use the suggestions and pointers to live a better adjusted and happier life?

An astrologer is someone just like you and me, a Doctor by another name. Not infallible. All they do is provide markers for your life journey, but you have to travel on your road yourself. They are on the same life journey themselves thus are encumbered by their own perceptions. Do not let them dictate to you, listen to them but choose your path and decide for yourself. You should visit them to get free of your bindings, do not allow them to create new bindings on your Will.

Adapt and change

We get caught in so many situations in life. Every morning we wake to a challenge and every night we sleep with the satisfaction of having overcome it. Or perhaps not! There are some nights where we stay tossing in bed, faced with a situation that we do not know how to resolve. We get caught up in thinking about it, we feel about it but we cannot come to a conclusion about it. So what can we do? Change the circumstances ? Or change ourselves? Change is the only constant!

I get clients who want to kick-start their business, who want to get married, who want children, who want health and even more. But when I look at their charts I get a internal feeling of hopelessness. From their charts I can see the problem of mismatched energies, I know the solution, but I know that the client will not follow the solution and get himself out of the pain he is in. Human mind is quite lazy, doesn’t want to work or change itself. It will rather wallow in pain and terror rather than change. But change is a must, there can be no permanent solution until the mind and the thinking process changes.

Long ago, I used to make packets of healing energy, talisman/amulets for the clients, I really wanted to help people. And they always worked. But this made the client lazy and dependent, always asking me questions, finally getting uncertain about their decision making. But, now after so many charts and so many experiences, I have realised that I really help people only when I help them change themselves. Once you find the resources with yourself you are free!

Adapt and change

A practical example. So you are ill for quite some time and you are finally tired of being sick, you have ‘enjoyed’ being ill and now it is enough. So let us change. Teaching the mind to be healthy is what you have to do. But thinking about being sick all the time you have forgotten how it ‘feels’ to be healthy. So do this small experiment to remember ‘health’. However ill you may be, there must be one part of your body with is healthy and beautiful? Maybe your hair, or skin, eyes, nails, teeth? Anything? So now this is what you need to do.

  • Do a basic grounding and cleansing in a quick few minutes. Think of your source of faith/Universe/Reiki/Guru/favourite deity etc.
  • Sit comfortably and relax
  • Now visualise that healthy body part, e.g. your eyes. See their aura, golden and silver and feel the happiness that you have from having such beautiful healthy eyes. I mean really ‘feel’ the pleasure in your mind!
  • Appreciate your eyes and their health and beauty for a few minutes.
  • Now when your mind understands that you want it to love this healthy body part, expand it to cover your entire body. This feeling of health that you derived from your eyes, apply it to your entire body.
  • You can visualise this ‘health’ as a shower of golden/silver sparkles falling on you or you sitting in a pool of silver/gold water/energy.
  • If your mind tends to wander and immerse itself in morbid thoughts drag it back to your beautiful eyes.
  • You have to basically remind your mind to remember being healthy.
  • Then shield. Visualise a pearly silver gold cocoon of energy around you.
  • Do this mindful exercise everyday for 10 minutes? In fact as you wake up you can do this is your half-asleep state too.
  • There will be a change in your health and you will have brought it about with your own intention and energy.

Life is not a circle, we don’t come back to the point where we started from, we continue to evolve in spirals. It is new everytime!

There are some individuals who never break, they just take the problems and situations in their stride and move on. They adapt and change their mind and their analytical processes to suit their new realities and always remain balanced internally. So how do they do that? The horoscope can be analysed to understand resilience and ability to bounce back, this is the domain of mainly Moon and Mercury.

The Moon is the Mind, deep fathomless. He is the experience of everything. The database of all your astral selves and past present parallel and future lives. He is every emotion you have experienced and every life you have lived. The position of the birth Moon, the sign and the house is very important. Also the planets he is conjunct with and aspected by. Basically a powerful moon placed well, will grant you emotional stability and comfort. You will always manage to find internal happiness and emotional security irrespective of the situations. Your mind will function without an emotional bias, you will be ready to be pleased, will not hold on to depressive emotions. Moon rules Cancer, so check out the location of Cancer in the birth horoscope. A well placed Cancer sign will subtly add to the power of the mind.

Position of the birth Mercury will determine the intellect and the analytical power. He runs the database. The ability to take a current event and match it through your experiences and learn from it. A well placed Mercury aspected by benefic planets will encourage a positive world-view. Mercury is the adolescent, sometimes immature even, thus is very responsive to other planetary influences. He is also highly adaptable and versatile, a multi-tasker. Also now check out the positions and placement of his signs, Gemini and Virgo in the horoscope. These also affect the intelligence in subtle ways. How you direct your mind is the domain of Mercury.

If you study the charts of such highly adaptable persons you will always find Gemini or Virgo as the ascendant sign or the birth moon sign in the birth chart or the navamsha chart. Mercury draws flack for his attention to detail and chatty behaviour. But these ‘Mercury’ behaviours if utilised properly have the ability to pull you out of strained circumstances. He is the Messenger, he can manage, manipulate, explain, describe, measure, communicate, interpret, think, analyse, instruct and engage with traders, merchants, middle-men, can see both sides of an argument, is duality himself. So if he is powered on, he will not let you get stuck in hopeless situations, he will look for solutions, pore over the data he has, and offer you options. (A weak Mercury will do the exact opposite and drag you into psychiatric and mental illnesses with his faulty thinking.)

So think yourself out of the situations you are faced with. You have all the data you need, be imaginative and use it. Trust yourself always. You have so many more options to live your life beautifully. Use them and be happy!

Tiny magics, use with care

Everywhere in the world there is a variety of local magic which is channelised by shamans to help people in need. In North India these are called ‘totke’, tiny things that you can do with energy and intention to get results. As always, energy is by itself neutral, the use that you make of it makes it ‘black magic’ or ‘white magic’. Am writing a bit about these ‘totke’ in this post just so you are aware of what all can be done and in fact is being done using familiar daily objects. There are these targeted ads on the internet, ‘keep your husband in control’ which is strange and ‘keep your neighbour’s wife in control’ which is unbelievable! But there are people interested in doing these negative things so at least be aware of what all is possible in this energy world of ours.

Spices – the energy of spices can be very easily harnessed in energy work. As it is, a tiny pinch of spice can change the flavour of food, they have medicinal properties, can affect our nerves and emotions on a very deep level.

  • I had written about a spice mix/mouth freshner in my earlier post here.
  • Another example, you can use spices to help you in your work. If you are going for an interview and you are worried. Take 3 cloves/laung in your right hand, sit on front of your puja ghar/altar and express your intention. Feel your intention enter the cloves. Then leave one clove in the puja ghar/altar, eat one clove when you enter the place where you are to give your interview and drop the 3rd clove at the seat where you will be sitting before giving the interview. Just remember that this is to boost you on emotional and psychological levels. If you have not studied, are not prepared, this will not work!
  • Never eat a spice, cloves, cardamom, cinnamon etc offered to you by another person or touched by anyone else.

Tiny magics, use with care

Water – Water is a very innocent thing. We go to any place, we are first offered water to drink. But water can absorb energies, I had written about water in detail in this post here.

  • You can use water to enhance the positive energies around you by charging it with positive intentions. You can use Reiki, keep your glass of water (in a transparent or colored glass) in the puja-ghar/altar/sunlight, or dip a flower/fragrance/spice in it to change its energies. You can intend and just blow on it thrice and it will get charged. Or you can dip your fingers (only 4 fingers are used, not the pinkie) in it to charge it in a positive way. You can do anything with water, cure or curse!
  • A very quick way to cure normal sniffles, cough, cold and fever especially in babies and small children is to charge water in a copper pot/or glass with this mantra from ‘Devi Mahatmya’, “Om aing hreeng kling Chamundayye vicche, Rogan shesha napahansi tushta Rushta tu kaman sakalaanbhishtan Tvamashrita na vipannaranan Tvamashrita Hayashrayatan prayanti Om aing hreeng kling Chamundayye vicche, Om” In Sanskrit it is “ॐऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे, रोगान शेषानपहंसि तुष्टा, रुष्टा तु कामान् सकलानभीष्टान्, त्वामाश्रितानां न विपन्नराणां, त्वामाश्रिता ह्याश्रयतां प्रयान्ति, ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे ॐ”.
  • But this ability of water to absorb energies can be used to harm too. (Channelling energies through the five fingers is very easy, as they resonate with the energies of planets/the 5 tattwas etc. The pinkie finger resonates with the energies of the Moon as well as Mercury). If you feel doubtful about someone, never drink water offered by him.

Food – All food that we prepare will contain salt. Salt, especially sea salt, is another very dangerous item, in the sense it absorbs energy and intention. This says it all. Do not eat food prepared by persons you do not trust.

But there are certain unavoidable circumstances where you cannot refuse the food/water offered to you. So now what? A easy solution, try to drop a bit of the food/water on the floor with the intention that its negativity gets ‘earthed’. The Great Mother Earth, somehow ‘cleans’ the food/drink in your plate/glass, so you can safely have it now.

Metals – Metallic objects can be used in intentionally directing energy. I had written about charging your gold ornaments with positive energy here in this post. Here a couple of examples of ‘totke’ with metals.

  • You are the victim in a unfair legal case. Buy a lock and key, sit in front of your puja-ghar/altar and hold the lock-key in your hands. Make a chi-ball if you can. Put your intention in the metal, that the case is locked, status-quo is maintained. When you feel your palms buzzing with the energies you have created, simply lock it and never unlock it ever again. Keep the lock in your store and the key separately in another room.
  • You are the victim, and caught in a debt trap, the loan-shark will beat you up now. Take an iron nail, charge it with the intention of stopping his goons. Hammer it into the ground somewhere on the road leading to your house. They will be stopped.

Thread – Another ubiquitous object, but quite popular in local magic. You can ‘tie up’ things. If someone is out to harm you, you can simply think of the person out to hurt you and tie 3 knots on a black thread. Put that thread in running water or under some lonely tree.

Dolls – And of course everyone knows about using dolls to harm. But I use dolls for distance healing in Reiki, it can be very effective if you cannot visualise the person. I stick the name of the person written on a paper on the doll and use it as a channel to send energy.

Tuesdays, Saturdays, Eclipses, Amavasyas, dusk, midnight, dark half of the month are some of the times when the energies in the surroundings are more responsive to manipulation.

So you see, if you have started working with energy, you can use almost any object to channelise it. Energy work is quite simple. But please be responsible with your energy talents. Here you can requesting energy from the Universe and directing it in the physical realm with your Will. You are the Creator, be very careful with your creations. If you do wrong or go against your conscience, it will be registered in your astral self and you may be required to spend your next life making up for it. So try to do good as much as possible.

Also be careful, our seers and sadhus have strict rules on what they eat, drink, wear, meet etc. It not their personal whims and fancies, its a bitter lesson that is learnt. Being free with your energy, being unaware of others, not taking basic precautions leads to more serious issues. So always shield yourself, do your cleansing and some spiritual practice regularly to keep yourself charged with energy.

Tiny magics, use with care

Quality of Life

As an astrologer, I do get this question from my clients of ‘how long will I live”. It is indeed a very important question, most frequently in marriage chart matching. Most of us are interested in living as long as possible, perhaps living for ever, being immortal! But ‘life’ as well as ‘time’ is a matter of perception and is always relative. If you can change your perceptions you can change your Life!

In India, there are a few Brahmin families, who are the actual pure-bloods. They are required by karma to do perform private pujas in families or in our ancient temples. These few families are bound by very strict rules, eg on whom they can marry (to keep the genes pure), they are required to learn by-heart thousands of mantras and ritual procedures, with the correct way of pronouncing them. The boys are required to do Sandhya Gayatri puja 3 times a day. The women are required to do a specific set of daily pujas. They all have to follow very strict rules on food, dress, etc. They get married very early, have children early, work very hard, travelling, doing pujas for clients etc and die equally early, very rarely beyond their 50s. Now anyone may think that after doing so much pujas, mantras etc. why a relatively short life? The reason is this, birth in such families is to quickly finish a large chunk of karma in a targeted fashion. These men and women have chosen the fast track.

Quality of life matters always, never the length.

Quality of Life

One of my colleagues recently performed a puja using the mantras from the Devi Mahatmya to ensure the easy passing of an aged woman who was unable to leave her body. She was so ill that she could neither live and because of a karmic block, neither could she die! This was a rather extreme case because the family had to request Devi Mahamaya herself for help. This is a kindness in a very strange way. Modern medicine has also accepted that there are cases where recovery is not possible, especially in the very aged, thus they can just prescribe only palliatives to ease the pain.

When I get such horoscopes where recovery is not possible, e.g. a 80+yrs grandfather has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and the doctors cannot cure, and the state of the person/body is unbearable, I prescribe only one mantra, the Mahamrutunjai, “ॐ त्र्यम्बकं यजामहे सुगन्धिं पुष्टिवर्धनम्उर्वारुकमिव बन्धनान्  मृत्योर्मुक्षीय मामृतात् ॥ ॐ”, “Om Tryambakam Yajaamahe Sugandhim Pushti Vardhanam Urvaarukamiva Bandhanaat Mrtyor-Mukshiiya Maam Amrutaat Om”. This is to be recited in sets of 108 times, three times a day by any close male family member, sons/grandsons. The intention should be that the ‘Lord of Time’ help the soul leave the terminally sick body. If done with the proper intention, the soul will leave within 3 days. This mantra has innumerable uses. I have used it several times to help someone recover faster from illnesses, making protection amulets etc. The power of the mantra is the same, the direction/intention matters!

Now a bit of astrology. Calculation of life-span from the charts is done using several combinations which are all quite well known. These are related to

  • The ascendant sign and lord of ascendant, this is the manifested personality and its vitality. The planets conjoint and aspecting.
  • The 8th house is the house of forceful transformations of identity, death and the lord of the 8th. Planets aspecting and conjoint.
  • Timing of death will come from the lord of the 2nd and 7thhouses etc.

But these in themselves will always give an incomplete picture of ‘life’. To make this more understandable, you will have to analyse the quality of life too. E.g. Saturn in 8th house in certain cases gives extraordinarily long life, ‘the chart resists/constricts’ the act of death. (It may get difficult to leave the body!) But what are you going to do with this long life? Enjoying a long life needs good health, presence of loved ones, a community and friends, wealth, a spiritual practice and much much more. Alone and old does not give good vibes! We cannot live in isolation, we need every aspect of life in its proper balance to enjoy our life. So do a complete analysis of your horoscope

  1. The power of each planet and each house.
  2. The benefics, natural and also functional benefics and their aspects
  3. The malefics, natural and functional, and their aspects. Also check if their aspects are being countered/neutralized.
  4. Pay special attention to the 6th, 8th and 12th houses from the ascendant sign and the moon sign both. These are the sources of disease, debt, enemies, accidents, surgeries, death, loss of the manifested, turmoil, the three dushamsthana.
  5. And finally pay close attention to the foundations of your life, 1st, 5th and 9th houses from the ascendant sign and the birth moon sign. The Dharma, the deep philosophies on which your life is based on. These will determine how balanced a life you will lead and how will it affect you on the physical and emotional levels.

Quality of Life

You have analysed your horoscope, so let us go about changing the quality of your life. You can improve the quality of your life with your Intention and Will focussing your energies. To generate more energy we use Mantras. (Mantras are only in Sanskrit, not any another language.)

  1. If you come across any problems in your chart, use the powers of the beej mantras of the weak planets/house owner/rashi owner planets to balance and regulate their energies. This is a very simple. Will take about 5 mins of your time.
  2. You can Intentionally re-direct energies. Do charity and help someone who really deserves your help. Maybe if you want children and unable to conceive, you can help out at a local orphanage, perhaps buy sweets for the children there. If you are having problems due to malefic influence of Saturn, help out in some way in an old-age home? Thoughts and intentions matter and can change the flow of your future.
  3. Practice being grateful and happy, this will reinforce your Will. There must be someone in your life who must have helped you, been kind to you, something must have touched your heart, brought tears of joy in your eyes? Your mom, dad, teacher, grandparent, brother, sister, a random stranger? Or Nature, a beautiful flower, a sunrise? Or even a beautiful dress, or the color of someone’s eyes, anything! Remember how you felt, how your heart burst with feeling and try to bring this same feeling in your heart again and again. Be grateful to your own Self too for being able to experience this joy.

And finally you will need to introduce a spiritual base to your life. This is a very minor routine that you can adopt every morning. We Indians do it and also teach our children, but I think most of us have forgotten, thus this reminder.

  1. When you open your eyes first thing in the morning, cup your palms so that both the heart lines match up. Look into your cupped palms and recite this mantra “Om Karagre vasate Laxmi Karamadhye Saraswati, Karamoole tu Govinda Prabhate Karadarshanam Om”. Then run your cupped palms over your face. This energises the hands, gives you confidence. Your hands are your primary tools for working, cooking, writing, holding and everything.
  2. When you get out of bed, put your right foot on the ground first, then your left. Express your gratitude, love and respect to the Mother Earth, “Om Samudravasane Devi, Parvatastanamandale, Vishnupatni Namastubhyam, Paadsparsha Kshamasva mey. Om”. This will ensure that you receive, ‘support’ in all its various forms throughout your day.
  3. And then remember your parents/your Guru/favourite deity/Universe with gratitude. “Om Guruh Brahma Guruh Vishnu Guruh devo Maheshwara, Guru Sakshat Parabrahma, Tasmai Shri Gurave Namah. Om”.

(If you cannot say the mantras for any reason, you can skip them, but do try to feel the energy of your palms/the Mother Earth and your source of Faith.)

Take a photo of the lines of your hands before you start doing this and recheck after 21 days. The crosses and negative lines on the palms will visibly reduce, see you are visibly changing your future here!

As you slowly and steadily start re-writing the script of every single day with these 3 small steps, you start changing your entire life. The butterfly effect!

How to do Dhyan

I have written about doing Dhyan as the first step towards self-realization or Moksh. I have put up a small 10min audio on youtube here. However it seems that I will have to write a proper post on it detailing the process. So here goes this technical jargon heavy post.

Dhyan is not ‘meditation’ , it manipulates the movement of pran/vital energy in your body, specifically it manipulates the pran and the apan.

There are 2 steps in Dhyan, first is more of a Pranayam phase and the second is the actual Dhyan. Dhyan is a Sanskrit word so has lots of meanings but at the simplest it means focus.

The physical requirements will be

  1. A silent dark room, no sound and no light, pitch dark. In modern cities it may not be possible, so manage the best you can with curtains and closing the windows etc. Do not use ear-plugs or eye masks. You should be alone in the room.
  2. Your asan, this is a four layered mat, have written about it in detail in this post. This asan is the foundation of all your spiritual practice and energy work. As the 4-layered mat may not be available at least use a wool blanket with a piece of silk. It should be about 3ft X 5ft in size. It should be set up facing the east or north east or north.

How to do Dhyan

Your preparation will be to get ready by going to the toilet, having a bath/washing hands, legs, face/sprinkling Ganga-jal on yourself as per what is available. Then wear loose fitting cotton clothes. Men should ideally wear a dhoti and women a sari, but it may be too much. So men can tie a cotton lungi around their waist and women can use a light coloured loose cotton nightie (but then don’t wear this for sleeping!). You should be barelegged, no socks/shoes. Do not eat a heavy meal for about 2hrs before Dhyan else your energies will be engaged in digestion and you will derive limited benefit. A small snack or tea is ok.

lungi.jpg  cotton nightie

  • Now sit on your Asan with all your body parts/dress tucked inside the mat.
  • Fold your legs in the Padmasan or Siddhasan (or if cannot do either then at least Ardhpadmasan). You need to perfect only one of these yogic postures. You are doing Sadhana/spiritual exercise not physical exercise.

How to do Dhyan Padmasan

ardh padmasana Ardhpadmasan

Siddhasana Siddhasan

  • Your hands should either be in the Gnyan mudra or the Bhairav Mudra.

How to do Dhyan Gnyan Mudra

bhairavi-mudra-7456.jpg Bhairav Mudra – right palm on left

  • Now first put your hands in Namaskar position and think of your Guru or favourite deity. Request help and guidance.

How to do Dhyan

  • Recite Om aloud, three or more times as you feel. The sound should come from your belly and resonate inside your body. Drag the ‘mmm’ part of Om.
  • Now stretch your body in the Mahamudra. First stretch out the right leg, fold the left leg inwards, with your left heel touching the joint of your legs and inhale. Bend down in the Mahamudra posture and count to 12. Straighten up and exhale. Then similarly stretch out your left leg, fold in your right leg and inhale, bend down and count to 12, straighten your back and exhale. Repeat this three times for each leg. Remember while doing the Mahamudra, your legs should not stretch outside the mat/asan. Thats why you need a 5ftX3ft asan.

How to do Dhyan

  • Now settle back in your chosen yogasan posture and set your hands in your chosen mudra.
  • (If you can do the Mool Bandh, start doing it now onwards, it is optional but if you can do it, it would help. I have written a detailed post on all the five Mudra/Bandha mentioned in this post, do read it)
  • Your neck should be very slightly lowered. (The young woman in the Padmansan posture above is doing it perfectly, try to copy her neck angle. This is called the Jalandhar Mudra. There are some sites/images where they show the neck literally drooping, that is incorrect.)
  • Deep breathe a few times, and relax. Remember when you breathe in and out your abdomen should also move not just your chest.
  • Now breathe in, focus your attention on your (greenish colored) Anahnata chakra/energy vertex in the center of your chest, and breathe out in a sharp exhale. This fixes your Dhyan posture in the energy sense.
  • (If you know how to do the Khechari mudra, start doing it now onwards. It is optional, but would help if you can do it.)
  • Now focus your complete attention on the Third eye chakra, Ajnya chakra, in the center of your eyebrows. You will now be focussing your entire concentration here, do not waver from this point.
  • Now breathe in and in your mind recite the sound ‘so’. Breathe out and in your mind recite the sound ‘hum’. This is one set of ‘so-hum‘. This set will be recited in your mind 108 times on 108 breaths.
  • (You can also mentally recite one single ‘Om’ as you breathe in and one single ‘Om’ as your breathe out.)
  • (Or you can mentally recite ‘ham’ as you breathe out and ‘sa’ as you breathe in.
  • (There are just these 3 options Soham, Om or Hamsa, as the Dhyan mantra. These are the safest, mildest and yet the most powerful.) (Do read these posts on Soham for details.)
  • To keep count of the mantra, you can use a Jaap-mala of Rudraksh. But better would be to learn to count on your fingers.

How to do Dhyan

  • This is how you count on your fingers. Refer to the diagram above. When you do your first ‘so-hum’ set, you will have your left thumb placed on the ‘1’ position and your right thumb placed on the “1-10′ position. When you do your second repetition, your left thumb will move to ‘2’, right thumb will remain steady on ‘1-10’. Thus you will count to 10. When you have to count to 11, your left thumb will touch ‘1’ again and your right thumb will move and touch ’11-20′. So you count the ‘units’ with your left thumb and the ‘tens’ with your right. So when you reach 100, your left thumb will be on ’10’ and the right thumb on ’90-100′. Now shift the right thumb to ‘gnyan mudra’ by touching it to ’70-80′ again. And continue counting 8 more ‘so-hum’ with your left thumb. You will complete 108 with the left thumb also coming into gnyan mudra at ‘8’. Thus you have counted 108 breaths – 108 ‘so-hum’ and your pranayam phase is complete. (Initially you might finish this phase in 20 mins, it will later extend and will keep on extending, till you will sit for hours!)
  • After the pranayam phase, you are supposed to do the Yoni mudra. (Do it only if you have been taught by a competent Guru). However just in brief to generate interest, first inhale then shut both your ears tight with both your thumbs tightly, place your little fingers below the lips, ring fingers above the lips, close both nostrils with your middle fingers tightly and press the index fingers to the point slightly above where the inner edge of your eyes meets the nose. You have inhaled and you are retaining breath. Start retaining breath for 12 counts to begin with. You might see darkness, colored clouds, burst of light at your third eye or whatever it is. Observe it maximum to the count of 20 no more. Take away your hands, keep them in their mudra position again, exhale and continue. (Yonimudra is to be done ONLY once a day, no more. If you sit for Dhyan 3 times a day do the Yonimudra only once not thrice. In my opinion, this is the most dangerous mudra in all of Yog, so be very very careful doing it)
  • After you finish the pranayam phase (and yonimudra if applicable), you will now continue sitting in this pose and attitude of ‘attentive relaxation’ (no other way to describe it!) for some time till you feel your body getting stiff. During this phase you will not recite any mantra in your mind or think of anything. Try to be blank as possible concentrating at your third eye.
  • Then you should perform the Mahamudra again, right leg stretched out first, stretching your back for 12 counts, then with the left leg stretched out. 3 sets.
  • After you finish the Mahamudra, again sit in relaxed attention for as long as you can. Do not recite any mantras in your mind and do not think of anything, focus on your third eye.
  • When you feel that it is time, you will open your eyes, think of your Guru/favourite deity, feel gratefulness and love for the Parabrahma (your own higher self) and slowly get up. (Release your Khecharimudra and Moolbandh if you have been doing them.)
  • Do not eat anything heavy for 30 mins at least after this and do not go to sleep for 30mins after this either.

This was just the bare-bones on how to actually do the Dhyan. There are several points here where you move the energy/pran in specific ways. I have described it a bit in the audio, may write on it in a later post.

This is based on one of the techniques given in the Vignyan Bhairav tantra, and have written more about some of the experiences during Dhyan in this post.

Sleep paralysis

You are asleep, maybe dreaming and suddenly you wake up in a dark room, you cannot move your body and it feels like a heavy weight lies on your chest! You struggle and then finally you break free and you sit up in bed, gasping, your heart beating overtime. You are scared, really scared, you either search for your husband/wife sleeping next to you or you switch on the bedside lights. You are in your room, you were sleeping and now you are awake! Now you will go online and search for what could have happened to you. You see exotic terms like sleep paralysis, astral projections, near-death experiences and go wow! This is special! You get piqued enough to buy a class which will teach you to enter the other dimensions and the domains of modern-age spiritualy.

‘Sleep paralysis’ has a very simple reason. But modern scientists have not yet learnt to ‘see’ the movement of pran/vital energy in the body. Once they start ‘seeing’ the movement of pran in the body, the medicine as a profession will practically cease to exist! And the doctors will turn into seers and sages, healing with touch and energy work!

Sleep paralysis

A quick recap of the energy structure of your body. There are several energy vertices/chakras in your body, there are several thousand energy channels/naadi and there is the energy/pran. The 6 popularly known energy vertices/chakras, Muladhar, Swadhistahna, Manipur, Anahata, Vishuddhi and Ajnya are located in the thinnest energy channel/naadi called the Chitrini, which is inside the Vajrini, this is inside the Sushumna. This Sushumna runs along the spine of the body. The chakra is one end of the Sushumna is the Ajnya, between the eyebrows at the other end is the Muladhar at the coccyx. The 2 other major naadis, Pingala and Ida also run along the spine. There are other energy vertices in your head, like Sahasrara, Mulbindu, Vama, Jeyshtha, Rudri etc. The Soul/Jeevatma resides at the Kuthasth which is linked to the Ajnya chakra.

Now the source of the pran is the Universe. (Actually called Hiranyagarbha, the sum of the vital energy/Samashti समष्टि pran of the Universe.) This enters into your body through every pore of your body, also through the Sahasrara and most strongly through the breath, your nose. This pran through the breath reaches the area of the ajnya and then travels through the Ida, Pingala or Sushumna naadi whichever of the three is active. Pran moves in a downward direction and gets distributed to the entire body through the naadi network. The lower 6 chakras and their associated naadis are responsible for distributing the pran to every part of your body, the organs of sense and action. This is the movement of the pran when you are awake (Jagruti). Thus the body gets its real energy to work.

The food that we eat is not the real source of energy. The Universe offers a greater source if you are capable of taking it. Most real enlightened souls/seers/sadhus do not need to eat or drink. They can maintain their physical bodies on the energies of the Universe. If you do your sadhana/dhyan etc rigorously your food intake will reduce too. So in short, the body works only if the pran is distributed in body.

Now when you sleep/Nidra. The Jeevatma is the controller of the body-Robot. (Jeevatma is the Atma/soul + the Karmic baggage that he carries). He schedules maintenance for the Robot and also some rest time for himself. So during sleep, the pran/vital energy from the breath is diverted upwards to the chakras in the head. When you sleep, your eyeballs rotate upwards and also your tongue turns upwards in your mouth, this is the physical indication of the upward movement of pran. The body is maintained at the basic level needed for keeping it alive no more, it is now in suspension. Your body is now not alive in the sense of regular normal life, it is in suspended animation, the senses are shut down and the organs of action are shut down. Now the Controller checks out where all his Robot is damaged, and allocates pran to that part. So thus your Jeevatma targets those weak/damaged/diseased body parts and repairs them. (If you are not well, try to sleep as much as possible, this helps faster recovery.) During this period the Jeevatma also rests, it contracts itself, it withdraws to the area of the Kuthastha, ‘behind’ the Ajnya chakra and puts itself in suspended animation too.

Then as you prepare to wake up from your sleep, the Jeevatma first wakes from his rest. He again sends his energies through the Robot-body. This is the alpha brain wave state that we experience as we wake up normally. The direction of the pran is reversed, it starts moving downwards and enters the chakras and naadis of the body. Thus your organs of sense and action become active again, the Robot is animated. And in less than a minute you wake up completely.

Now you know the movement of vital energies during awake and sleep states.

Sleep paralysis

When you are doing astral travel, your astral self (it is very tiny, about the size of your thumb) moves with the Jeevatma from the Kuthasth to the astral dimensions. During this period the Jeevtama does not rest. And the pran which were supposed to be repairing the body are used up in powering the travel and work in the astral.

In sleep/Nidra, the Jeevatma, also looks up into the information stored in the sub-conscious mind, this act is seen as a dream/Swapna. Time is such a paradox! In our dreams we might live out an entire life, but the dream ‘time’ lasts for maybe 30 seconds to a minute. You may have noticed this, you see a long dream and throughout that long dream you faintly hear your alarm clock in the background. Then you wake up and your alarm is actually ringing. So however long that dream was, it was just as long as your alarm clock was ringing in the ‘time’ of the awake state.

Sleep paralysis happens like this. Your Jeevatma is looking for some information within your own sub-conscious. Thus you are dreaming, watching a soothing scene. If the information was not very palatable, scary even, the Jeevatma withdraws in a rush and ‘wakes up’. And your dream has gone haywire! The Controller has woken up from his rest. But his Robot-body is still shut-down, in suspension. This is the instant of ‘sleep paralysis’. It takes just a few seconds for the Controller to shift the movement of the pran and for it to start moving downwards and powering up your organs and body parts. But as time is relative, you feel these few seconds as endless. The weight you feel on ‘yourself’, is the weight of your own body on your Jeevatma! You are your Jeevatma, soul-self, you are light, lighter than the air. The weight of this 70kg Robot-manifested-physical body is an unbearable weight for the soul-self. A mind-bender, strange but true!

So sleep paralysis is not a problem, most of us will experience it a few times in our lifetime. But for some of us, who have bad memories buried in the sub-conscious it will happen more frequently. There are several easy ways to resolve this,

  1. Physical factors – ensure you are comfortable in bed, clean sheets, blankets etc. Sleep with your parents, children or spouse in the same bed so that there is a sense of security.
  2. Emotional factors – Talk about your problems to your best friend, spouse, parents or anyone you trust. Also trust yourself.
  3. Spiritual factors – this is to check the room for negative energies, eg ley lines. Use cleansing equipment like lemons, sea-salt, peacock feathers etc.
  4. Energy work – use methods like guided meditation and resolve your energy imbalances. Do your cleansing, grounding and shielding regularly. Listen to your intuition. Start a baby energy practice and stick to it.

So this turned out to be a post more on the movement of pran, but unless you understand how your body energies function you cannot understand more about yourself and the things happening to you. Sleep paralysis is quite a normal thing which will happen a few times to everyone. And if you do not understand you will react with fear. Do not be afraid, everything has a reason. And the sooner you understand the free-er you will be.

To navigate the Astral Worlds

I see so many people on Facebook and ‘spiritual’ websites claiming that they visit the astral realms or that they will teach you how to access the astral worlds. If they were genuinely visiting the astral and other dimensions they would never do this!

So what is the “astral” realm and why do we go there? Sleep/Nidra in Sanskrit, is a very complicated phenomenon. When you sleep quite a few things happen, for one the flow of pran/vital energy of the body changes its movement. When you are awake (Jagrit awastha) the pran energy is first brought at the ajnya chakra and distributed around the body, it is used by the organs of action and the organs of senses. But when you are asleep, this pran is consumed at the third eye chakra itself in a rather mysterious way, and used in repairing and rejuvenating the body.

One part of this pran, during sleep, is used to access the dream state (Swapna awastha). This dream state is where you partly access your own personal sub-conscious. You might get very vivid dreams, remember them, or you may not, but your Self stays within your energy bodies. You do not travel astrally or visit the other dimensions or access the collective-sub-conscious state. There is no need to do so as your own sub-conscious is competent enough to deal with matters related to your limited needs. Most of those who get excited about ‘astral travel’ are just experiencing vivid dreams and guidance from their own sub-conscious, a very normal and regular activity.

But then for some of you there is a need, a requirement to travel out of your energy bodies. Then you will be travelling in the ‘astral’ or the other dimensions. This is now quite serious. The 12thhouse is the most important for this analysis. You will see combinations like the following in the chart.

  1. Combination which grant the necessary dissociation of the bodies so that the astral body can separate from the physical. Eg ascendant sign /lord with Ketu.
  2. Combinations which allows a link to the astral planes, so that you will find the routes. Also the planes need to become stable enough for you to enter them. And the astral body also to have the necessary ‘fluidity’ to slip out of the other energy bodies. Eg Moon in the 8thor 12thhouses or in the Scorpio or Pisces signs.
  3. Combinations to ensure that you have the wisdom to travel the astral responsibly and remain safe there. E.g Jupiter and/or Venus, conjunct/aspecting the moon and/or the ascendant lord or the 12th.
  4. You do not enter the astral for entertainment, you travel there to work off your karmas and to serve. E.g. Saturn or the 6thhouse, connected to the Ascendant Lord/sign or the moon

Travelling to the astral is a burden. You sacrifice the rest and rejuvenation of your sleep state and go to work in the other dimensions. You do not sleep when your astral self is out. When your astral self separates from the rest of the body layers, the entire body gets disturbed. You wake up with a pressure band around your head and somehow the center of your head ‘pains’. This ‘headache’ can go on for days. It is not a migraine. Your astral had separated while you slept and in the morning when you wake up it had not integrated back properly. If this goes on for a prolonged period of time, this imbalance manifests as a disease which has no physical reason and no physical solution.

I had a client who was continuously travelling out of her body for years. Not sleeping for years too. It was her karma to go and work every night. Seeing her photos from before this astral stuff started happening and her present self was disturbing. It was like she had aged 15yrs in a span of 3-4 yrs. This client had developed spots and black patches in her vision, the doctors could not see anything wrong with her. ‘Seeing’ the energies of the astral was destroying her eyes in the physical world.

Now a few points for those who are required by Karma to travel astrally. The astral is generally not a friendly place so this is what you should be aware of.

  • The astral movements always destroy the physical body. You will wake up tired and drained, with a strange ‘headache’, nausea and dizziness to some extent. When you ‘see’ your energy bodies after you get back it will be like they are overlapping but not completely integrated. You should always consciously fix the bodies back into their places using the full form of the Gayatri mantra. I had written about it in this post here. Any damage to the astral body can take upto 6 months to manifest in your physical body. So better safe than sorry, use the Gayatri and fix them back intheir places immediately after every travel.
  • You will be working in the astral, so you will have your enemies there too. So now when you are unaware of the astral (when awake), you will be attacked. These entities are often called Vetal or Pishachya in Sanskrit. I had this experience once, a Vetal had from his own dimension inserted small ‘injections’ so cleverly into my aura that it took a couple of days of queasiness for my brother to figure out what was happening. So be alert, make your protection amulets, or clean yourself everyday with peacock feathers.
  • Any interaction with any entity/spirit in the astral leads to exchange of energy. A client was a tantrik in his several past lives. He had deep love for Shivshankar and thus in a life he changed and started his Self-discovery. His enemies still in that path of dark energies are now high level Pishachyas. They still visit him every night and challenge him to fight. He would fight them thus lose his energy to them. His aura was like cold ice. My aura touched his when we met and he instantly drained my energies, I got so dizzy and nauseated that had to drink a couple of lemon sodas (sea salt and lemon) to rebalance. So while moving in the other realms focus on what you have come for and shield yourself always. Do not interact needlessly with the denizens there.
  • Then your work in the astral will bring you in contact with entities you owe energy to. As long as they take what they are entitled to it is ok. But more often they will insert tiny ‘hooks’ into your aura and use you continuously like a energy battery. This will cause tiny chronic health problems for you. So again shield yourself always.
  • And then as you are now aware of these secret energies, you will become the ‘energy protector’ of your family. If anyone curses or ill-wishes any of your family members living in your house, that negative energy will attack you first. So be aware.

To navigate the Astral Worlds

Now with this note of caution, there are several good things also in the astral. But you will be called to get them only if it is your Karma. If you are to receive positive energy from the astral it will be given to you in a gentler way. E.g. one client often sees her ‘higher self’, ‘healing’ her current self when asleep. Your astral body looks exactly like you, height/weight everything. But your ‘higher self’ looks different, it may look like you, but more likely it will look like the person you were when you had reached your highest level of spiritual development. My client sees hers as an aged, thin but very brilliant old sanyasi man.

(There is someting called sleep paralysis which is misconstrued as astral travel. Have written about it in this post here. )

You are now a resident of the physical manifested world, not the astral. When your body dies you will return to the astral, not now. While residing in the physical body, if you work too long in the astral, your physical body will deteriorate and you will return to the astral earlier. You should have been in Nidra/sleeping, using your pran energy to rejuvenate your physical bodies, but you were using up the pran in travelling and working there. So you have to make extra efforts to restore your physical health and maintain your manifested form. There is no other way, you have to do Dhyan. You can do reiki healing and other ways of manipulating energies but the best and most deep way is Dhyan. Reiki etc is healing energy from the universe. Dhyan is you yourself actively working with your own pran. It is a difference like heaven and earth!

Always remember that the astral and other dimensions are just like foreign places. They are unknown and more likely dangerous. You do not travel even upto the grocer’s shop unless you have something to buy. So why would you be travelling into the other realms unless you have a clear and pressing reason? It takes significant energy! If you have work, go there and do it, but always take adequate precautions. And steer clear of the online sites where someone offers to teach you ‘astral projection’ in 300dollar online class. It is not a ‘projection’, your astral body, you yourself, leave and go elsewhere. ‘You’ come back before you wake up. This is a burden and is not for everyone.
