Kama Trikon of the horoscope

The 12 houses of the horoscope are divided into the Dharma Trikon, houses 1, 5 and 9. The Arth Trikon 2, 6 and 10. The Kama Trikon 3, 7 and 11 and the Moksh Trikon 4, 8 and 12.

The root of this Universe is ‘Desire’, Kama. This word can mean the superficial sexual desire which also leads to creation of new life and can also mean the deep Desire of the Ultimate Consciousness to play a Game/Leela called Creation. This Sanskrit word ‘Kama’, is longing, love, will, purpose, deliberation, intention, desire, passion, wish, agreeableness, enjoyment etc, so many layers and layers of meanings depending on the intention of its use. The Nasadiya Sukta of the Rig Ved, (129th Sukta of the 10th Mandala) describes the creation of the universe as the desire of the ‘Unfathomable Intelligence’.

However coming back to the horoscope, the Kama trikon, Desire Triangle, is the houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th. The houses of Desire and everything to do with it. Now lets see how these three houses would mean ‘kama’. What makes up your Universe? At its foundation is the interactions between humans. Our Universe is not us alone, when we interact with others like us, we create and populate our Universe. Thus Kama is this, the desire to be connected to others in one way or the other. From this desire for interconnections the following expectations arise,

  • being financially well-off
  • having a personal source of income through personal job/trade/profession
  • being with siblings, cousins and enjoying a feeling of brotherhood
  • being with a spouse and sexual satisfaction
  • income sources through individual partnerships and network of communities.

The Third House

The 3rd house from the ascendant is the house of extended family, neighbourhood and conversations. Our interactions in these limited intimate groups and our first step in the bargains of life is the domain of the 3rd. Our entire life is a series of bargains which lead to cooperation. I tell my son, ‘If you finish your dinner, I will tell you a story tonight’. This is a very agreeable bargain for both of us! Then as we get older we progress to making agreements with our friends, cousins and neighbours. If we make mistakes here they are forgiven and a second chance given to make-up and learn. The style of interaction in this House is one to relatively many, here we learn how to interact with the outer world as per our society’s customs and traditions.

Bhratru-Bhava, the house of brothers is ruled by Mercury. Mercury is the communicator, he is the adolescent who loves to be with his siblings and peer group. He is also the one who intelligently analyses data and classifies and learns from this. Here is where we learn how to deliberate, communicate, trade, cooperate and be bold. This house is also called the Parakrama, the house of boldness.

As we grow up the lessons from this house become the foundations of our self-earned wealth. And we desire our wealth because it makes our lives more comfortable. This house is the 2nd from the 2nd, the second is the house of family treasures. So the 3rd house uses the all resources you have available in the form of family good-will, treasures and reserves and uses them in trade and cooperation. You gain profits from the 3rd. You get an experience in trade, commerce and communication and you also learn how to be bold and courageous going about it. In this house you just don’t desire the money, you also look forward to the regular meeting of associates, the close friends and brothers. Desire is both human company and profit!

The 3rd from the ascendant tells you about how your interactions from these groups is going to be on the external social levels. eg If you have Saturn placed here, naturally it will be restricted, if Jupiter it will be extensive. However to know how these interactions are going to affect you emotionally you will have to check out the 3rd from the birth moon sign. Moon is the significator of the mind and in my opinion is sometimes more important. Eg If you have Jupiter in 3rd from ascendant but Ketu/South node at 3rd from moon sign in the chart, you will have extensive interactions with your large extended family but you will always feel detached/apathetic/dissociated from them.

The Seventh House

This house is quite easy to analyse, partnerships in every which way. These partnerships are ruled by Venus, the master negotiator. Venus also replays the same ‘human company and profit’ motif! Here however the human company is more limited to one-on-one and has to be legal. The 7th is also one of the four major foundations of the chart (the other 3 being the 1st, 4th and 10th).

The 7th is the house of all the relationships and interactions that are ruled by law of the land. Thus the legal marriage, matters of the law, court cases, business partnerships, interactions with government agencies, contracts in trade and all human interactions rising from these are the domain of the 7th. This house also governs the relationships with first legal husband/wife, children from second legal wife, maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather etc. Here as the house of marriage, our sub-conscious expects a balanced partnership based on our personal cultural legal environments. This is the house of agreements, contracts, negotiations, fairness and balance. This house desires human interaction through partnerships.

As the 7th has been hyped as the house of sexual pleasure so just a small note. Not all adults have sexual partners but all of us have one significant partnership. This can even be with a deity or an ideology. The 7th is the mirror of the self. It shows you the opposite that attracts you, fills your blanks. Seen in this context the 7th is an exchange of energy one-one between two who desire this as a karmic agreement.

The 7th counted from the ascendant, the planets located here, the position of the 7th house owner and the aspects of other planets, will determine how all these interactions play out on the external, conscious or social level. For determining the sub-conscious impact of the interactions of the 7th you will have to consider the 7th house from the birth moon sign. The 7th from the moon will determine the level of emotional satisfaction and comfort that is received in these extremely personal one-to-one interactions. eg. If you have Saturn placed here you will never feel fulfilment as Saturn constricts and restricts, on the other hand if you have Venus in the 7th house counted from your moon sign, you will always feel the harmony and beauty in all the human interactions governed by the 7th house.

pexels-photo-1062411.jpeg

The 11th House

This is the house of gain, profits and luck ruled by Saturn! Luck and Saturn, surprised? Saturn is the strictest karmic teacher of them all but he is the fairest. He will give you exactly how much you have worked for. This house of Saturn gives you all that you have worked for throughout the 1st to 10th houses of the horoscope so far. Thus the 11th is the melting pot of all the human interactions, cooperations, luck and gains in your horoscope. In the 11th you desire the entire network of energy interactions that you have invested in.

Here the interactions are not just limited to your extended family, or legal partnerships! This is like a tradesmen’s fair or a marketplace. You interact with diverse individuals, foreigners, risk-takers, travellers and everyone who shares your interests. Like-minded individuals together make up the 11th. So there is a gradual evolution, from customs-society regulated, to partnerships-legally regulated to common-interests which are now intellectually regulated. This is the real house of fulfilled desire as after the experience of the 3rd and the 7th you are now free to interact with and gain from associates you have chosen purely for their inclinations which match your own. You are not limited by traditions or what is legally approved. This is your house of karmic interactions with every energy in the Universe you have an affinity for!

The 11th from the moon should also be considered, as it stands for all you long for. If your moon is in the 6th house in Pisces, you will always yearn for emotional security, the mother, the homeland, familiar customs, the residence and mental comforts (keyword of the 11th from 6th i.e. the 4th house). Also you will want the father, the profession, the reputation, recognition in the society, and to reach the top of the organisation by working hard for it (keyword of the 11th sign from Pisces i.e. Capricorn). Whether you get it or not depends on the aspects and planets situated here.

This post is about the kama, the desires and the attractions which is in the domain of the mind. The Moon is the mind, and the most important placement in the horoscope is the sign/house of the birth moon as here is where you emotionally perceive what is happenings around you. You could be a king and sad if your ascendant is powerful and moon weak, or you could be a beggar but happy if your ascendant is weak but your moon is strong! So when you analyse the desires of your life as expressed in these 3 houses, 3rd, 7th and 11th do look at the emotional components too. Longings denied and frustrated can have very deep impacts on your psyche. Analyse yourself, try to come to terms with what is allotted to you so that you can find ways to make it better.

Work with Astrology or Reiki, it is easy!

I have been a Vedic astrologer all my life, in fact perhaps several lives. I have experimented with several divination systems and they have always worked for me. Divination or Reading is seeing patterns and matching with past experiences and examples with theory. The more you practice and study the better you get at this. It takes interest, time and effort. Intuition also plays a very important role and some spiritual practice is essential where you can rest your active mind and allow the sub-conscious to take over.

However in the past 10-15 years, ever since the Internet, social groups and Internet driven consumerism took off, divination and tools of divination are being sold and traded around as a lifestyle! Someone ‘does’ Reiki, someone is taking online classes on becoming a shaman, or someone is discussing his stellium, or chiron quintile with lilith or persephone biquintile with hades! And all in a course designed to teach you in 3 months! How is it even possible to learn in 3 months? When you decide to Read, you should realise that sooner or later, some one is going to make his life-decision based on what you told him. So you need to be serious and responsible about how you study.

Then again , why complicate your divination tools, with chirons and liliths? The tools are just that tools! These systems have been designed and put in place by seers, and have worked perfectly for thousands of years. The Indian astronomy mathematics is still from the Sanskrit book “Surya Siddhanta”, written by Mayadanav who lived millenia ago.

So today let’s put a critical lens on the energy tools and divination systems consumer market and see how we are purposely making it more difficult for ourselves.

Vedic Astrology

Yesterday someone on Facebook was commenting that Indian/Vedic astrology is garbage because it does not consider planets beyond Saturn. So in one statement this guy has negated the work of millennia! And possibly influenced a few genuinely interested Western students against attempting to learn it.

Indian/Vedic astrologers use Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, their names are Shwet, Shyam and Teevra, in determining the destinies of nations as nations survive for hundreds of years. But now this branch of astrology is practically dead as no one practices it anymore. Our modern nation’s governments do not have a post called “Raj-Jyotishi”, (astrologer to the Kings) anymore. In human horoscopes, these 3 planets are simply too slow moving to have any discernible impact on our tiny lives of about 60yrs. For us humans, with just the 9 grahas and 12 houses, we can predict everything about a person, accurate to the year, month and date! In case the client does not know his birth time, but has both his palms intact, we can calculate his birth time upto the exact second, from the lines on his 10 fingers.

Vedic is sidereal mathematics, the precession, wobble and axial tilt of the earth is accounted for and the calculations corrected every year. The Earth is tilted, thus the motion of the earth is not even, it wobbles like a top, this is called precession. For any astronomical calculation to be correct this precession has to be calculated. The Indian system does this calculation. It means that the maths is accurate, the position of the celestial bodies in the sky and their calculated position in the horoscope is exact.

Western tropical system does not consider the earth to be tilted! Their calculations are hopelessly wrong and stuck in the astronomy of the past about 2000yrs ago, since then no corrections in the mathematics. There are such posts on FB, “I am a Cap, but I don’t feel like one!”. So the answer is, “Do you feel like Sagittarius ? Because western Capricorn, if less than 24°, will be Vedic Sagittarius!”. Now, for some cryptic reason, they have added about 10 asteroids to this mess, hades, chiron, persephone, lilith etc! And complain that astrology has f$%^ed up their lives!

And then there are oodles of new software available in the market, progressed charts, synastry, name it and there is a software creating it. But why? There is a perfectly accurate way of matching horoscopes, ashtakoot, or porutham. Why create a synastry chart which has no value for analysis and prediction. So for Indian/Vedic system, for windows, “Jagannatha Hora” or “Parashar’s Light” are quite good. For android I have found “Hindu calendar” by developer “Alok Mandavgane” and for iphones “Drik panchang” by developer “Adarsh apps” to be quite accurate and user friendly.

girls on desk looking at notebook

So a word from experience. Stick to Indian/Vedic, stick to simple, avoid the asteriods. Learn the keywords of the 9 planets, 12 houses/signs. Gradually build up the keywords till you can analyse the chart and get a perfect overview of the personality. Then learn the combinations and stuff you need for predictions. Find a good teacher. And practice.

Reiki – a very easy to use and effective energy tool

I am a Reiki teacher. FB groups are again flooded with requests for Reiki. Of course some of them are quite genuine, but the majority are like, “I have bad memories please send me Reiki”. This sounds like laziness to me. To cope with such issues what is needed is cleansing and grounding. The person has to work on himself. Only then will the inner sub-conscious receive Reiki for further healing! Mikao Usui discovered Reiki about a humdred years ago, and his basic advice was that everyone should learn Reiki and do their own healings! After his death, his students and later practitioners tweaked with his system. But Reiki is primarily a tool for self healing.

reiki.jpg

And I realised the wisdom of Mikao Usui’s statement recently. One of my acquaintances is ill, I felt for her and tried distance healing. To my utter surprise, the Reiki sent did not ‘hook’ into her. There was nothing in her which was latching on the beam of energy, it was just washing over her. So I asked my brother to help her. His words were that the sent Reiki was moving through her like through a sieve, not actually going in. Quite concerned, we visited her in hospital, turns out she was so busy blaming her (perfectly innocent) mother-in-law for her auto-immune disease that she was not bothered with her own health. She was in fact wishing for her MIL’s death! No wonder the Reiki did not stick on her, with her terribly hateful and negative mindset!

There is another problem with sending healing energy to others, possibly practitioners do not appreciate it. You get connected to the energy body of the other person while sending reiki. And the channel is open, if you are not careful and alert during the process you may pick up something unwanted from the aura of the recipient. This happened to me once during an initiation process where I saw something potentially distasteful in the student. But I quickly raised by guards and avoided the worst, but still fell ill for a few days after that.

So if anyone is ‘into’ Reiki, instead of sending healing, do offer to initiate others so that everyone gets empowered and does their own healing. (Unless its a request to help small children or the elderly. Heal only those ill, who actually want to get better). And even when you are doing the initation do be careful.

pexels-photo-1148998.jpeg

As with other energy tools, Reiki also has developed new streams! Just like the asteroids of Western astrology, new branches coming up, Karuna, Rainbow, Kundalini etc. These in my opinion are just new ways for Reiki teachers to make even more money from initiations! Last I heard, they were charging Rs 80,000/- for ‘level one Karuna Reiki’ initiation.

Stick with the original, Usui Reiki. You can do anything and everything with these symbols. Dig deep into them, meditate on them, use them. Develop a spiritual practice to power on your intentions. Reiki is not an ice-cream shop with flavours! Some of the things that you can do with Reiki; get a flight delayed so that you can catch it, clear the traffic off the roads, heal pre-mature birth related body problems even at the age of 25yrs, get your boss to change his mind, make it rain, heal plants and animals, get nice produce from your kitchen garden, quiet your crying baby, remove evil eye, charge and cleanse other energy tools, increase the efficacy of medicines, make food tastier, get your child to eat his dinner.. anything that requires energy and intention you can do it with Reiki!

pexels-photo-1510540.jpeg

The spiritual merchandise market is booming these days and genuine aspirants can get easily caught spending their time and money on things which may be of no use and even discourage them from learning. But of course, if you have learnt and experienced everything possible with your current system, then you should explore more. There are three things that should always guide you;

  1. This thing you are doing should be described in an authoritative reference book.
  2. If not then, your Teacher should have recommended it.
  3. And if not, and most importantly, you should be really convinced that you need to do it.

Use your crystals, easy healing grids and more

I use crystals and gems in my work.  Though I generally do not prescribe gemstones for my clients, because I don’t think they can use them as they should be used. But I use crystals and gemstones, they take time and energy to set up but are quite reliable long-term option if you know what to do. Like the healing pyramid my brother made for me, using reiki on a crystal, is my permanent asset, I need to care for it once in a while though.

clear quartz crystal.jpg

Gemstones as planetary remedies of course everyone knows about, Ruby-Sun, Emerald-Mercury, Diamond-Venus, Hessonite- North Node/Rahu, Chrysoberyl-Ketu, Red Coral-Mars, Yellow Sapphire-Jupiter, Blue-Sapphire- Saturn. They can be fantastic energy batteries. But you need guidance from a genuine astrologer, a genuine jeweller, get genuine stones and then charge them periodically. Else it just a waste of money and as nothing happens the client feels cheated and then loses faith in this tool in our hands, astrology!

But crystals are still affordable and can be used in a variety of ways. I had a client who would always travel astrally out of control. She wore a bracelet of amethysts to add stability to her as she slept. This definitely helped. Charging the bracelet with reiki, cleansing with sea-salt helped recharge the crystals. But today I want to write about energy grids using crystals. You can use tumbled crystals, these are quite cheap if you buy in bulk from a wholesale dealer. If you buy individual pieces it will be quite expensive though. These grids can be used for a variety of things

A healing crystal grid. This is a crystal grid that my brother laid out yesterday to help one of his friends who is critically ill (waiting for a transplant). He has a collection of crystals and has laid this one out intuitively as he can actually see the energy radiating from the crystals. This grid is now on his friend’s bed at his home helping him as he battles it out in the hospital. Here my brother has used tumbled crystals of several types and linked then to 2 clear quartz pyramids and a central quartz as a focus.FullSizeRender.jpegI prefer a multi-purpose grid based on the geometries of mandalas, yantras and sacred geometries. You can try these too if you have the time and inclination. The best possible grid that you can use is the Sri-yantra if you have that many crystals! This is how you do it. You dont need to be extra-sensory like my brother, but you will need to focus on the objective, put your intention in it and believe.

sri-yantra-bw.png

  1. First take a print of this image on a large piece of paper. Set it where you think its appropriate, because once you set it up it is going to be there undisturbed for a few days at least.
  2. Get your crystals, do a quick cleansing by leaving them for 10mins in warm sea-salt water, rinse and dry.
  3. Face east or North. Sit down in front of the paper and crystals and touch them with both hands/fingertips. Breathe deeply and slowly relax. Say ‘Om’ thrice. Let the sound come from deep within you and drag the ‘mmmm’ part. Breathe some more, remember your stomach should move, not your chest, as you breathe in and out.
  4. Think of your favourite god /deity /reiki /mantra /force of nature /Guru /space /the universe /anything that inspires your faith! Intend your objective. “I am healthy and happy”, “I am working professionally and it is deeply satisfying’, ‘I am happily married to my partner of choice and we are happy together”, “xyz is happy and healthy and recovered”, etc. Visualize the completed scene in your minds eye. Feel the energy of the intention being fulfilled.
  5. Now first place your focus crystal, I always use a clear quartz pyramid. And from the center outwards in a clockwise direction start laying out your crystals. Place the crystals on the points of intersection in the diagram. (Use clear quartz tumbled crystals. As you get more experienced you can experiment with others or a mix of several crystals.)
  6. When you finish you can continue sitting for sometime feeling your intention and the resonance from the energy matrix that you have laid out.
  7.  This method is suitable for everyone and for all sorts of positive energy-work. From getting a job, to money, wife/husband/child, to healing and finding lost objects. This is the geometry of the Universe expressed in 2 dimensions. It fulfils wishes.
  8. After you get what you have intended, you will want to dismantle the grid. To do this, first thank the the energies/universe/deity/god/reiki etc for helping you out. Then sprinkle sea-salt water on the grid. Shake it once with the intention of gratefulness and disconnection. Pick up the crystals and paper. Wash the crystals in sea-salt water rinse/dry, and leave the paper in the sunlight for a day. You can reuse them now.
  9. But the easiest method I have found, is to write out what ever it is that I want, and just place it under my Maha-Meru that I use in my daily pujas. As the Maha Meru is the geometry of the Universe and I energise it every day by my mantras, the wish/intention kept near it also gets charged and eventually fulfilled.

So here is the basic method of making and using energy grids which will work for everything. This energy grid will work for everything and clear quartz will also work for all types of energy grids.flower-of-life-3.jpgBut you may want to work in more specific details, as you get more experience. You can explore more geometries and more crystal types if you really want to. I would recommend these as the best possible options.

Even more Geometries – which you can use as grids are the geometries of the 7 chakras/energy vertices. This will be a step up, as you will need to know where your problem is coming from. Basically from an energy point of view there are only 6 types of problems.

  • Muladhar chakra diagram – for any problem related to physical insecurity, use a red colored crystal as the focus
  • Swadhisthana chakra grid – for any imbalance related to the emotions, use a orange colored focus crystal
  • Manipur chakra grid – for any issues with self confidence and expression of the self, use a yellow focus crystal
  • Anahata chakra grid – for any problems in giving, use green focus crystal
  • Vishuddhi chakra grid – for any problems in communications, use a blue focus crystal
  • Anjya chakra grid – for any problems in perceptions and receiving. use an indigo focus crystal

The chakras are also associated with body parts too, so you can make a targeted health grid of that chakra, instead of an overall energy grid for the entire body (sriyantra above). This is just as an indicative list. As you get more confident in your energy-work your own sub-conscious will guide you. As always the crystals are to be placed on the points of intersections and a focus crystal in the exact center. In some of the grids there are curved lines, you can place additional crystals on these so that the lines look curved.

Even more crystals – If you have a gemstone you can use them in grids as focus stones to heal planet specific problems. But crystals! There are thousands of crystals in the market, all tagged with some complex tiny meanings that really make no sense in practical energy-work. And you don’t find them in the shop, or will be selling at ridiculously high prices. But there are a few important crystals that are easily available and at reasonable prices that you can consider experimenting with.

  1. clear quartz – your work-horse, do everything with it
  2. purple amethyst – helps in clarity stability grounding
  3. rose quartz – pinkish – balances the emotions related stuff
  4. tiger eye – gets rid of unnecessary baggage you are holding on to
  5. citrine – removes negative influences from aura and sub-conscious

Now crystal shapes, the commercial spiritual market has a big thing on shapes too! I use only tumbled stones (they are rounded have no sharp edges) and the Pyramids for focus.tumbled crystals.jpgBut just a word of experience, always the simplest works the best. I have not felt the need to use more than these 7 grids (6 chakra+1 Sri-yantra). Often the universal Sri-yantra works the best. And in crystals I have listed out just the ones I have used and which have worked. Energy-work is very simple and intuitive. Sometimes I work with just my hands or mind no tools needed at all. But I have realised that working through a tool is a bit easier and helps me keep a suitable distance from my clients and students auras. You never know what might be in them which may affect you negatively.

So do try this sometime, and see if you can manifest your wishes into reality!

Seances, planchettes, communicating with departed spirits

In the West, 31st October is Halloween where people believe that all the departed spirits come back for spending the night on the Earth. However, I have not felt anything different energy-wise, happening on 31st Oct date that allows such mass movement of spirits through the dimensions.

I observe that in the Western civilisation is quite obsessed with death and the dead. There is a whole industry focussed on catering to the dead, from selling cemetery plots, funeral parlours to making diamonds out of the ash that remains! Even Halloween seems to be a children’s game of trick/treat or carving pumpkins and putting on garish make up and attending parties. Then again calling seances, planchette and inviting the dead to talk via mediums is quite common, and people are counselled to maintain a relationship with the dead. This in my opinion is needlessly morbid and in fact dangerous.

pexels-photo-1385750.jpeg

In my experience with the dead,

  • Never call the dead for any reason unless you are sure that you can send them back. I had a client who went to carry out the funeral etc rites for his departed mother and came back with several thousand departed spirits accompanying his young child. Have written about this episode in this post.
  • Never expose young children to such energies. They may get an ‘imaginary friend’ in the process who will drain their energies also also implant unsavoury negative ideas in their impressionable minds. These imaginary friends are not friends and certainly not ‘imaginary’.
  • The departed are denizens of another plane of existence. The parent you knew in this life does not exist in that form now. Accept it and let go. Eg. One of my clients was scared of spirits and there was actually a bound spirit chasing her, carrying ill-will sent by her mother-in-law. We dealt with the ill-will quite easily. But why was she afraid? We did a guided mediation session for her and found out that in some past life she herself was trapped into being a carrier of ill-will, a bound spirit slave trapped by a tantrik. And to our utter shock that long-ago tantrik was her present mother! And her mother now was quite sincere, strict but fair, nothing to indicate such a happening past! But just see the karma, and how it gets balanced! That tantrik hurt my client so deeply that he had to become the mother, get pregnant, give birth to her, nurse her, nurture her, change her diapers, pack her tiffin, take her to school etc. This client changed my perceptions completely. The one closest to you, has the most karma to resolve with you and not all of it pleasant. After the living is done, better not call them again of your own violation.

pexels-photo-220426.jpeg

  • The departed one, even if it was your dear mother in this life, is not just that one person. When we are born we limit ourselves to the birth horoscope. When we leave the body, we again become our higher self and remember all our past lives, and our priority becomes the pending karma, nothing else. Example. My client’s mother departed, she was good to him and thus he was missing her terribly. Then she started coming in his dreams and scolding him, forcing him to go out of his way to do something for her brother/sister which would cause him significant loss. We contacted her and she clearly said that her karma with her son was complete, she had no feelings for him. But she had significant karma left with her brother/sister and wanted him to willingly take it on for her so that her account gets lighter. She knew that he still loved and missed her so was hopeful that she could force him to take it on!
  • Some departed ones think that even if they have departed their children should still follow their wishes. Eg. My client’s mother wanted him to marry a woman from his caste, she died, and after her death he got married to a woman from a different caste. So his departed mother actually started haunting his house and his dreams. She was clearly visible in a largish-ballooned type of form inside the house and was so irritated, continuously talking! Finally we had to stop her entry using the Chamunda mantra. Then bundle her up and send her back through the dimensions to Pitrulok.
  • pexels-photo-1449058.jpeg
  • Planchette can easily turn bad – One of my close friends as a teen, loved playing with planchette. It quickly became an addiction and he would call spirits for his and his friends entertainment. Till one day, the spirits realised that he could hear and see them. After that they started taunting him, talking to him continuously, threatening him, laughing at him to the extent that they now would not let him sleep. This went on for 2-3 days, till he started thinking that he should now commit suicide. Luckily for him his grandfather had recently died and in despair he thought that he could ask for help. His grandfather was willing to help and instructed him to burn the planchette board in a specific style to get rid of the spirits.
  • And there is one more example I must tell you! I had gone to visit my colleague, she is a very good Shaman/tantrik. One of her clients walked in on us. And suddenly the client’s recently departed mother-in-law’s spirit entered into her and started begging her forgiveness. This departed MIL was also my colleague’s client. It was so extraordinary. The spirit would speak through the client’s mouth, then depart for a minute during which the client would speak, then again she would be possessed! The gist was that the MIL was saying sorry to the client for mistreating her while she was alive. The shaman was scolding the spirit for not listening to her advise and mis-behaving. The client was crying because she was unable to understand what was happening to her. And then the MIL spirit was also in deep contrition and crying because her routes into the other worlds were blocked because of her karma of harassing her daughter-in-law. It was such a scene!

In India, the Sarvapitri Amavasya, the no moon day falling in the month of Bhadrapad which falls in sometime in Sepember/October, is the day when pretatmas/ancesteral spirits cross over from their dimension, Pitrulok, to our world, Martyalok. I think that once in the ancient past, the Vedic Sarvapitri Amavasya must have coincided with the 31st Oct of some year and got stuck. Thus the Western civilisation perhaps got its Halloween.

This day of paying respects to the ancestors is a very serious day. It is the culmination of the dark fortnight of Bhadrapad month. Throughout these 15 days the routes between the 2 dimensions are gradually opened and on the no moon day the day is extremely heavy with tamasic energies. The food for the rites on this day, is prepared by the woman of the house, which in addition to all the other items has to have a pumpkin dish, black sesame seeds and a milk/rice sweet dish. These food items have the highest potential of absorbing the energies of the tarpan/rites and transferring that to the spirits. The oldest male of the house does all the rituals. The pandits engaged to perform the rites/tarpan have to perform 2 activities, first to call the ancestors to accept the energies offered to them and send them back too. In case they do not know what they are doing it can lead to trouble.

In India, we think of the departed ancestors only and only during this fortnight/no moon day. We have a very pragmatic approach to death. When the person dies, the rule is that the body should be offered as a Anteyshti/sacrifice to the fire/Agni on the same day before sunset. In case the death occurs in the night, the cremation is done the next morning itself. The ashes/asti collected are not even brought back to the house but the earthen pot is tied to a tree standing outside the house. On the third day these are put in the nearest river or the sea with more mantras and rituals. We then give away all the clothes and everything used by the departed person. We are very thorough about this, as generally nothing is kept even as a keepsake. Even the gold etc jewellery is recast into new designs and gems are cleansed. On the 13th day some more rites are performed and a feast is given to the neighbourhood people as a token of gratitude for helping out during this moment of departure. Then once every year, the departed are remembered and offered energy through rituals.

We know that the soul takes on several lives till it attains the final Moksha and this cycle of birth-death-rebirth is going on since the Universe began. We also do not think of the departed, as we know that the spirits in the Pitrulok are active in their own work and if we remember them again and again they get disturbed. So we go on with our lives and express our gratitude to them only once a year.

Back to what I was writing about, its is always advisable to never contact departed souls. It can be quite dangerous in unexpected ways. And you might be successful in calling them, they enjoy coming here, its like a picnic, they get free energy! But then they don’t go back. There are very few people who can actually deal with such energies, and clean up their effects.

In my practice I have seen such examples that I almost never directly contact departed souls. There are better and safer ways to counsel the clients.

Jupiter, the owner of Sagittarius and Pisces

Jupiter/Guru is the agent of conventional wisdom, and also the agent of expansion. I have written posts on this force in your chart in the past. Do read them to gain a better insight into his workings. Now it is time to discuss his two signs, 9th Sagittarius/Dhanu and 12th Pisces/Meen. Jupiter’s signs are the natural 9th and the 12th in the zodiac and thus Jupiter is also the natural owner of the 9th and 12th houses in the chart.

(Just to define this term ‘Natural ruler’. The 9th sign is Sagittarius and its lord is Jupiter, thus in any horoscope, placement of Jupiter and Sagittarius sign in the birth chart will have a subtle influence on the matters of the 9th house. This subtle influence exists irrespective of whatever the actual 9th house sign is.)

Jupiter Owns Sagittarius the 9th – The psychological motivation and the deep aspects of the energy of Jupiter as Sagittarius as 9th. These will be expressed in different ways depending on the individual charts, signs and position of planets, aspects etc. But the core of this energy remains this.

This Jupiter has realised that philosophy is a treasure which can only be derived from the transformative forces of the 8th house of re-birth. He has explored every route possible, searching for the depths of Wisdom. The secret and often quick movements of the energies of the 8th grant a deeper understanding and experience of the Ultimate Truth. These transformations have been several and terrible but he has endured, questing for the Arcane. Now he Understands!

He also knows that whatever he has gained has to be passed on to his students for the cycle to be complete and the Karma balanced. He refuses to hold back anything. He does not hoard. He does not limit himself to a single family. He belongs to greater Humanity. Thus here the 9th, identifies himself as a magnanimous patron of deep doctrinal beliefs. He teaches these theories as a regular profession and is a priest, a father, a Guru, an energy-worker, a preacher or the wise elder of the house whom everyone respects. Jupiter’s partnerships tend to ruffle him as his preferred partner is the conversational, shallow, detail-oriented Mercury. Mercury too feels a bit uncomfortable in his relationship with a pedantic, permanent teacher, preacher. Thus marriage may not materialise unless harmonising aspects from other planets help out!

As the 9th, his depth of knowledge is such that his extended family, groups, communities afford him respect and he derives much fame and fortune in all strata of society, homelands and foreign. His students also gain from him, knowledge, respect and fortune too. This Jupiter does not bother with the establishment or the class boundaries and all who seek are welcome at his door. He respects the divine will which is his Doctrine, more than the legal mandates of the society and may be separate from the social classes as an ascetic, a sage, a Guru in a Matth. A Patron of Philosophy!

The 9th finds his emotional security and comfort in the depths of the sub-conscious, the abstract, the metaphysical and the other dimensions of thought and experience. But he also understands that his students may not be able to comprehend the abstractness of spirituality. Thus he takes efforts and makes up a framework of religious practices and outward show of spirituality so that his students can gradually but better understand the metaphysical eventually. The intelligent and creative aspect of such a Jupiter is his compassion, all-inclusive-ness and deep understanding of human nature. He attempts to create kindness in his every student. This is his House of Humanity!

This is the expression of Jupiter when he is the Sagittarius.

Now Jupiter Rules Pisces the 12th and the Last – Here Jupiter is the Last, and he carries the summation of the entire energies of the Zodiac within him. The 12th has no fixed identity on the visible plane. But this Jupiter has become the expansive Waters of the sleep, subconscious, visions, dream-life, astral realms and the unknowns, the vast fathomless Pisces, the 12th. He is very wise but does not feel the need to communicate his wisdom in his wake states.

Here he is not concerned with the Identity of the current life-body, he has transcended the boundaries that tie him to it. He is rather unaware of his physical body, ego, and role in the society. He breaks down the vitality of his physical body to fuel his explorations into the sub-conscious. The energies of the Pisces also function as the resources which will be utilized in creating the life-body identity of the next cycle of birth. He is indifferent to Death as he has realised the creative aspect of this transformation. A Realised Soul!

Pisces is quite lethargic and relaxed in their awake lives, their real actions are hidden from all, including themselves, as they occur in the ‘other states’. He may leave his home-land and settle on foreign shores or he may leave his body every night to spend his time on the spirit shores! Either way he will roam as this gives him emotional satisfaction and security. The 12th secretly transforms his identity periodically using divine creative energies available to him and these actions are quite terrifying and quick, adding always to his secret store of wisdom.

The 12th is a bridge, connects the living identity to the departed ancestors; links the waking life to the meditative states; and human nature to the Ultimate Moksh. This bridge is very tenuous, composed of half remembered memories and vague impressions. Jupiter here is curious, child-like, guileless, innocent and helpful. The 12th often gives and gives without restraint as his resources are technically infinite in the sub-conscious realm. This then causes him problems in the conscious states. The aura of his physical body leaks especially at the feet, the feet chakras are weak.

This Jupiter is into experience. He is by nature a teacher but in the 12th, he is a private one-to-one teacher whereas in the 9th he was a public one-to-many teacher. As the 12th, he prefers solitude, privacy, if he leaves the society he will vanish into the caves in the Himalayas. Social identity is rather  immaterial to him. He is the shaman, tantrik, a solitary prisoner or the absent-minded brilliant researcher in some obscure University lab.

He finds marriage a bit difficult as his partner is the rather juvenile chatty Mercury. Mercury too finds living with the vague, dreamy, expansive Jupiter difficult in return. But this is a karmic lesson for both of them. Jupiter here feels one-on-one partnerships to be a source of irritation.

This is the Jupiter when he becomes the 12th Pisces.

Mercury, the energy of Talk and Trade!

Mercury is the agent of communications and messages. Thus he is an enormous force who governs all human interactions. His agency is can be used for positive or negative work depending on the intention of the user. Thus the same Mercury is the perception manager, the middleman, the media, the manipulative agent, the blackmailer, the medium or the meddler. The Pedantic Teacher, the Esoteric Preceptor, the Royal Ruler, the Emotional Comforter, the Fiery Warrior, the Strict Taskmaster, the Desirous Rahu and the Nebulous Ketu all need the Communicator to deliver their messages. Mercury is the only force who can interpret, analyse, read, speak, hear etc, so he is the only channel through which the other planetary forces can communicate to our Consciousness. But Mercury is not a passive telephone line of the chart. He has his own agenda too as he Controls communication.

If you have observed, it is quite impossible to find Mercury placed alone in a chart. Most commonly he is conjunct with Sun or Venus and of course other planets. If rarely he is alone, the owner of his sign will influence. Only very rarely when he is alone in Gemini or Virgo will he be completely neutral, though aspecting planets will always influence. He is quite eager to interact with other forces and can easily absorb their messages, add his agenda to them and then transmit it to the target audience.

person-woman-hand-smartphone.jpg

When a message is created naturally its copy is created. Thus Mercury is also the agent of duplicates, twins and copies. Thus siblings, team-players, co-workers, are his agents. And generally such messages are delivered to the students, pupils, disciples and subordinates. Thus such recipients and groups are also in the domain of Mercury.

Mercury is like the ultimate filing clerk. Whatever he sees and experiences, he mentalizes it and rationalises, How can I organise it? He is always thinking of better ways to organise his perceptions so that he can extract the maximum learnings from it. The trick is to make him understand when to stop. Mercury has to be stopped when the maximum has been learnt, else he tends to file-re-file, organise-re-organise, analyse-re-analyse just for the sake of it, in a never-ending loop. This leads to mental trauma eventually. The Compulsive Calculator, limited by his past. Every experience will be analysed as repetitions of the past patterns. When confronted with something completely new, which cannot be fit in and filed properly, he feels insecure and shuts down. These two are the most important karmic lessons that Mercury has to learn, to stop over-analysing and allowing events to flow, without reducing them to data bits.

Mercury is the son of the Moon. Moon is basically the unfathomable human mind and Mercury represents that part of the mind which is logical, rational, accessed, articulate and available for interactions. And as a typical teenager who doesn’t get so well with his dad, Mercury tends to be quite immature, rough and his decisions are hasty and based on superficials rather than deep  wisdom. You see, Mercury is not so different from your average teenager, impressionable, adaptable, argumentative, becomes a malefic when posted with malefics, needs his peer-group, needs guidance from his elders.

pexels-photo-133442.jpeg

Whenever Mercury influences any sign and house, he brings in his typical behaviour there. The matters concerned with that house and sign will now be organised and filed. Communications in every which way, then discussions, arguments, criticisms, explanations and analyses. He is always into short term goals and the proverb ‘penny wise pound foolish’ is made for him. He will always utilise every opportunity for trading, marketing, advertising, loves meetings and conferences, especially where he can toss around ideas, talk and talk. However he has a high analytical ability, is mathematical, also good at grammar, can articulate complex thoughts and is excellent at verbal and written analysis. He can recognise repetitive patterns, is calculative and very good at information exchange. Mercury is a highly successful lawyer or a great doctor! But the Mercury  machine is addicted to measuring, then what should be done with these measures, he does not know, he cannot judge the value of what he has measured, he is not wise. He can just compare it against some pre-decided standard and docket it.

So Mercury always needs to be guided by another force so as to actually learn and grow up. And generally he accompanies Surya, the source of genuine intelligence where he acts a messenger boy for the Ego or Divine intelligence. Also seen with Venus, where he helps out in setting the terms for balanced agreements and treasuries or in conveying esoteric knowledge.

pexels-photo-792726.jpeg

Mercury gets exalted in Virgo, where he is the lord of his own house. He is free to express himself and if not provided direction by other planets, is a mechanical amoral force of unrestrained intelligence. He then becomes sort of a super-computer, continuously organising, categorising, planning with the data available to him, till his amorality catches up with him and he messes it up. In Virgo he gets ample information about services, debts, diseases, enemies, arguments, discussions etc which he analyses till he finds the best possible way to file them. A Data processor.. info in info out!

Mercury’s brilliant analytical powers however get drowned in the dreamy sign of Pisces. He also considers the pedantic and wise Jupiter to be his enemy. Pisces is the sign of feelings, visions, sub-conscious, no focus, vague impressions, perceptions and universal consciousness. And Mercury is lost in this, he loses his technical powers of focus, practicality, articulation, problem-solving, and becomes vague and inconsistent. Debilitated Mercury struggles with the messages he receives from the Pisces sign and ultimately fails to convey the mysticism of this rashi in analytical language. His logic limited vocabulary cannot express the intuition, contemplation and meditation of the Piscine influence. Mercury gives similar results when posted in the 12th house of the horoscope too. He is incapable of contemplation and meditation, remember he is an adolescent!

Thus Mercury the Commercial Agent, must always remain busy, talking and trading!

Mars, the Agent of Life and Death!

Mars is a fascinating force in your horoscope. He rules over your body-birth as the natural lord of the 1st house, and also ensures your body-death as the natural lord of the 8th house. He represents vital energies/prana and he is responsible for the ‘life’ that courses through you. Mars, the ruler of Aries and Scorpio will always exert his influence on the 1st and 8th house of the chart in addition to the actual sign posted there and the influence of the other planets on them. Birth, death and re-birth, all these processes are expressions of these Martian energies. He interprets the energies lying dormant in the subconsciousness to create conscious action which is expressed either physically in Aries or psychologically in Scorpio.

(Will just quickly clarify this term ‘Natural ruler’. The first sign is Aries and its lord is Mars, thus in any horoscope, placement of Mars and Aries sign in the birth chart will have a subtle influence on the matters of the 1st house/ascendant. This subtle influence exists irrespective of whatever the actual ascendant sign is.)pexels-photo-325044.jpegMars owns Aries the natural First house –

This is his House of Identity! He decides, Who are you? When did you arrive? What time, location and circumstance?. Here Mars is the energy of the moment of actual birth, the family of birth and the situation of birth. He has become the pioneering, vigorous, physically athletic, impressive, unafraid, competitive, First. The 1st controls the visible body, the musculature, the blood and the network of vessels. Thus he is good at all the activities related to animal survival and passion; from hunting, to eating, to sex and competing. Here he uses his physical body as an athlete, a fashion model, a stuntman and in his free time too engages in active sports like hiking, surfing, gym, etc. In the 1st, Mars is the reserve of courage, energy, a fuel tank of masculine, sexual productive energy always in motion. And yes, he can be cruel too.

Here as the 1st, the self-destructive tendencies of Mars are gradually released into the environment which ensures gradual learning in the conscious, thinking states. Mars as the 1st is always moving in the physical visible realm. His energies are distinctive in appearance and he is noticed for his sexual vibes and physical beauty. And being the 1st, he also rules the head, the brain and the thought processes thus is intelligent, incisive, precise and promotes himself and his clan. And his this ‘selfishness’ is approved and admired in the society.pexels-photo-707837.jpegThe 1st’s resources and reserves are forged in the subconscious as the karma of his past lives. This karma is primarily related to expression of anger and also conversely to the fear of anger released inappropriately. His resources are also like the subconscious, largely unknown to himself, but always available when needed. This Mars has an extended brotherhood which links to him from the community and he welcomes similar minded individuals into his clan. This extended family also gains profits and luck from the energies of the 1st Mars. His source of emotional security and comforts is either his profession or his father. The family group is the place he where is at the center stage and his powers of creation too find an outlet here. And he in turn provides security to his mother, homeland, properties, relatives and residences. He is the ideal male partner to his female partner and the perfect example of a masculine father to his sons. This Mars has learnt how to be a man from the group of benevolent paternal figures in his family.

The 1st loses his identity under the influence of that mysterious psychological energies of the 8th house. Here Mars’ energies behave somewhat like a Ouroborous, consuming himself so that he can rebirthed again, new and refreshed. And he also has the capacity and capability to transform the energies of his losses, debts and enemies into challenges where he wins, transforms and evolves himself with every interaction.scarlet-honeyeater-bird-red-feathers.jpgMars also owns Scorpio the natural Eighth house

The House of Transformations belongs to Mars! Here Mars Forces Change. The identity first determined by the 1st house is now transmutated in the 8th. The identity of birth thus undergoes repeated changes in the lifetime and the last change leads to termination of the body-identity. Death is a major transformative process which transforms a resident of the Martyalok, to a pretatma/spirit denizen of the Pitrulok. In this context the 8th also become the house of all roads and pathways including the invisible psychic routes. Mars here is the energy of death and carries with him the seeds of the identity of the next life. In the 8th, Mars also controls the transformation of the parent’s DNA into a child of the next generation, by controlling the power of the reproductive system. He is at his highest psychological dominance here, penetrating, intensely controlling in his pursuit of Hidden Knowledge through every which route possible. The 8th is now the Randhra, the House of every sort of Openings and movements through them. These movements are often fast and terrifying.

The source of Mars’ energies are the self-destructive tendencies which are gradually released into the depths of the being so as to afford an internal learning experience. He is the shaman, the investigator, the healer and the killer here. He moves continuously in the realm of secrets, the inner mind, the interiors of everything, including the body. Mars learns his lessons here in the shadowy realm of the psyche.star-clusters-rosette-nebula-star-galaxies-73873.jpegThe 8th is where Mars the Eternal Warrior competes to find the Essence of the Self. He takes on identities and then transforms himself again and again. The next birth occurs as per the mental/emotional/spiritual state of the person at the moment of death. Thus he gives himself a chance of Self Realization. His war zone is the inner lands of the psyche and his prize is gaining the Self Identity. And because he is Mars, his ways are the swift actions of discovery, release, breakthrough, surgery, catastrophe, openings, invasions, scare, shock, intimidation, torture, rebirth etc. The 8th house ruled changes can be invisible, psychic and of varying intensities. Psychic healing, major surgeries, accidents, intensive therapies, tantrik magic are some of these 8th house events which practically bring about a re-birth in terms of the body-identity, emotional-identity, spiritual-identity and soul-identity. Here Mars controls the hidden energy body and the system of Chakras-energy vertices, the network /Nadis and the Prana/vital energy flowing through them.

As the natural lord of the 8th, Mars here is the Identifier of Secrets. His resources and treasuries are the guidance and philosophies that he gets from ancestral spirits and shadow guides. Such a Mars finds his brotherhood in the regulated environment of his profession, but his comfort zone emotionally is the network of like-minded individuals he cultivates, the stranger the better. His creative aspect again lies in the unknown realm of visions, dreams, sub-conscious and the invisible. He also ensures the secretive nature of his creative forces. The 8th also represents the material resources of the partners, but such a Mars values no physical treasures. As the 8th, he has maximum power when his exists in the shadows of the society, his methods and means secret. If he, by chance, gets too visible in the society he gains enemies and arguments. The society is not very comfortable with such a Mars and is inclined to be a bit scared of him.

If and when you develop control over your mind, emotions and thought patterns through intense spiritual activity where you train the movement of the vital energies/pran flowing in the energy channels of your physical body, you can gain control over your body-death and rebirth. In such a case you can choose your next physical-body and life situation. This then will be a Reincarnation rather than just a rebirth.

This is the real nature of Mars and the two Houses, 1st and 8th that he owns.

I have always believed that learning by rote does not contribute to real learning. For real understanding we need to get into the mind, the motivations and the energy of the subject. Thus this post.
