Ketu the headless

Ketu the south node has always fascinated me. It does not have a head! Its so cryptic, no head means no face, no ego, no sensing, no thinking, no expressions, no nothing. It Just Is! But it has a body so it can act, and it does sometimes. But why does it act, what is the motivation, where is that motivation felt? Or does it act without motivation? Extremely mysterious. At least its counterpart, Rahu/North node has a head, but no body. But at least it is aware of itself, though it cannot act. But Ketu!

Ketu the headless

Ketu in a horoscope represents everything that has outlived its utility and is to be discarded. It also represents those aspects of life and living which you have enjoyed to the fullest in your past lives and thus in this life you are apathetic to them. Ketu is the “chidrakaraka” (The agent who tears, makes holes, disperses). It does not deny, it just makes you indifferent. For example if the Ketu is placed in the ascendent 1st house itself, the person will have zero sense of himself, but can be a brilliant actor as he, being a blank canvas himself, easily accepts the demands of the movie director on his personality.

Ketu and Rahu are the same entity but now divided into two points 180deg apart. Ketu always surrenders to the demands of Rahu/the other. And Rahu the trickster wants only desires, once he attains what he desired he immediately shifts to another desire.

So how does this cryptic ketu translate to the human experience. The house that Ketu occupies and the planet he influences (conjoint) represent the things or desires or objects that you will be rather indifferent to.

For example the client with the ketu in the 1st house was indifferent to his place in the society, as the head of the family, and was a businessman, but let his wife/business partners (rahu occupying the 7th being the “other”) direct him. The person was happy enough internally with this situation but it was causing business losses financially and his wife was getting more aggressive. Ketu’s gift of a non-coherent personality was affecting his social/family/business life. So something had to be done. A consultation for business success turned into a psychological exercise. He had to understand that though he may be internally indifferent to all this, he will actively use his energies develop an interest at least on a superficial level. And the separation/dispersion from ego which is actually a gift from ketu in a spiritual sense should be channelized elsewhere. He started doing regular dhyan and focussing on his non-ego traits during this period of mindful contemplation. Thus his spiritual progress accelerated and his superficial materialistic life also stabilised as the dispersive energies got their outlet during the dhyan.

In transit too Ketu grants separation from the objects of the houses he transits through. It is a good thing in a way, the mind is prepared to detach from the emotions/ actions/ environments which have out lived their purpose in this life. I have seen several examples of this, 3 cases this year when Ketu transited into the 4th house and the person’s mother died. It was a quick painless death for the mother and for the person too it was a calm acceptance of the fact. And as soon as the mother died, each one of these clients found new sources of stability, emotional satisfaction and assets. One got married in a few months, the second bought new property and the third shifted into a bigger house. Ketu gives too, but in a very blasé matter of fact way with his characteristic apathy.

Ketu the headless

Ketu located in various houses at birth will give the generally the following results. Ketu – is the agent of dispersion, non coherance, dis interest, apathy,  headless, abandoned, limitless, not powered, careless, deserted… In the following houses affects,

  1. First house – Personal self, status in society, the head
  2. Second house – family assets, lineage, speech and communication
  3. Third house – neighbourhood, extended family, brothers, boldness
  4. Fourth House – mother, landed property, residence
  5. Fifth house – education, children, expressions of creativity
  6. Sixth house – disease, debts, enemies, arguments
  7. Seventh house – partnerships, wife/husband
  8. Eighth house – death, routes into the unknown subconsciousness and other dimensions, accidents, medical operations
  9. Ninth house – external religious behaviour, deceased ancestors
  10. Tenth house – father, profession, work
  11. Eleventh house – networking of people, sources of gain, luck
  12. Twelfth house – deep subconscious, internal spirituality, losses

And if conjoint/or 180degrees away from the other grahas, will affect..

  1. Surya/Sun – personal ego, source of all energy in the horoscope, father
  2. Chandra/Moon – emotions, mind, mother
  3. Mangal/Mars – valor, expression of the personal energy, competitiveness, brothers
  4. Budha/Mercury – creativity, communication
  5. Devguru Bruhaspati/Jupiter – expansion, teacher, conventional knowledge
  6. Daityaguru Shukra/Venus – relationships, spiritual teacher, esoteric knowledge
  7. Shani – restriction, contraction, servility, service

So check out in your birth horoscopes the positions of Ketu and the planets it is influencing. Then using the keywords above just generally try to examine the influence of this headless graha on your life, on the emotional/physical/spiritual levels.

But do not forget that Ketu, Venus and Jupiter are the planets which together determine your spiritual foundation and progress. So if you see any mutual interactions between these 3, rest assured that in this life you will get a spiritual boost. Start some simple basic daily 5min, spiritual practice to trigger their energies gently.

Then if the ketu is in the 6th, 8th, 12th houses it is relatively better for the material word, In the 6th house it will disperse enemies/diseases/debts. In the 8th it will disperse the boundaries of death, may grant a longer life and also access to the other dimensions, you may actually sense other entities and their energies. In the 12th it will disperse losses and the boundaries between the conscious and subconscious again giving you access to other energies and extra-dreams visions etc.

Never forget Ketu is the real Moksha karaka, he grants the Enlightenment of Ego-Less-ness. Try to channelise its energies if you feel drawn to it. But remember that when you decide to find yourself, you have to decide to leave the “other”. This leaving the “other” is not so easy, and if you try to trigger it before you are really ready it will result in internal trauma. So baby steps first, start your spiritual practice and as and when you get ready the Ketu will be there with the Devguru Jupiter and the Daityaguru Venus to show you the way.

the souls journey

Speak out!

We are always under so much pressure to conform, our parents, our teachers, our friends, the husband/wife, the children, the boss everyone has expectations from you. So you are the good little boy, a quiet student, the best buddy, the ideal man, the perfect worker, the best dad.. thats is a lot of work you have put in. But then in all this, who are you really? All these definitions are words stuck on you by others, thus hiding your own identity.

Another problem with others expectations is that, though you may feel overwhelmed but still you labour on because you are scared to hurt their feelings. Or in some self sadist way you think, “I will ruin my health doing work for him, then he will understand how much I have given up for him”. Else you feel that you are stronger and can afford to overwork yourself for those others. And the others keep on taking advantage of you.

Also it may be possible that the others may care about you really, but do not realise how tired you are working non stop. Just because you are so perfect at hiding yourself. You never speak out, never say that you are tired, just work like a robot. This is a problem then. You have to learn to speak up.

Speak out!

One of my clients is a woman, a PhD, a highly paid professional she works 6 days a week but also cooks food, takes care of her children and the parents. Is a dedicated wife and does her pujas etc too regularly. Even as a child she was an obedient child, good at studies and also arts/crafts. An ideal personality on the outside, but on the inside she was stressed out to the point of breaking but unable to express herself. Her horoscope analysis showed, ascendent libra, with saturn, mars, jupiter retrograde, mercury caizimi (within 1 degree of the sun) and true nodes in direct motion. Added to all this her ascendent venus was conjunct with ketu in the 5th house.

  1. Libra ascendent is a very typical person. Outwardly very balanced, likes beauty, polite, very good company, fair just etc but internally in a free fall and the back aches almost continually. They provide support to almost everyone they are in contact with, are extremely understanding and sensible. Thus when they are in need of support themselves, no one really believes them. Thus they do not get the support they desperately need so the physical support of the body, the back, aches.
  2. Retrograde planets, everyone has 1-2 planets retrograde, 3 is a bit rare but added to it the true node direct (they are usually retrograde) made for some very interesting observations.
  3. Saturn retrograde will make the person work and work and work, despite being very well off she was doing office and house work both.
  4. Retrograde Jupiter may make a person religious but will not give the results of the pujas, will be directionless spiritually or a follower of off-beat philosophies. Her pujas were certainly not being very fruitful.
  5. Mars retrograde is the saddest possible combination, as the expression of the will is nil, such a person cannot say “no”, is the silent worker without recognition.
  6. Mercury kaizmi, the powers of mercury were completely burnt out as it was less than 1degree from the sun. She could not communicate especially when talking about herself. Would develop a slight stammer and not find the words. It was painful to see someone like that.
  7. True nodes in direct motion. Her subconscious energies were of very high potential but blocked by heavy karmic factors.
  8. And the worst for the last, Venus ascendent with ketu. Internally disengaged from all relationships. Zero understanding of her own self and her emotional and physical hurts. Ketu is a “pretender” able to take up the personality the “other” wants. Anyone expecting something from her would get it. The Ketu would change her personality to suit what was being demanded of her. So she was superficially the ideal mother, student, wife etc but she was unaware of her own self. She had no “self identity”.

It was a long process of counselling her and her husband too and doing a series of mantras for ketu, mercury, sun and then finally saturn. She did deep healing with Vishnu Sahastranama and Srisukta. In this process she also learnt reiki and to do cards, Lenormand and Thoth. She was guided and helped but she did her self healing herself and used the tools given to her. And today at least she can speak up for herself and express what she feels and what she wants. She does a bit less housework and gives herself time. Her back aches less.

So speak up, express what ever is in your hearts. Do not wait till the emotional stress reaches such a point that the physical body starts getting damaged. If you are unaware of what you want, or cannot express it in words (it happens, I know) put this simple intention in the universe, “I will receive what I need to live my life health and happy on all levels”. Repeat this affirmation once a day for 21 days at least.

You have to take care of yourself first. Keep yourself mentally, emotionally and physically healthy so that you can move on and focus on to your spiritual health.

Speak out!

Guru Sakshat Parabrahma

Guruh Brahma Guruh Vishnu Guruh Devo Maheshwarah, Guru Sakshat Parabrahmah Tasmai Shri Guruve namah.

This is the sanskrit shlok on the foundation of which the business of the “modern gurus” is conducted. This year I saw this shlok being circulated on whatsapp on 5th sept celebrated as (school/college) Teacher’s day.

The commonly circulated translation is “The Guru is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiv. The Guru is the All observing Parabrahma. And thus I bow down to that Guru”. So our School teachers and modern age gurus chant this and elevate themselves to the levels of Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh and the Parabrahma. Such ego! It is unbelievable.

What does ‘Guru’ mean in Sanskrit? ‘venerable, extended, heavy, serious, difficult, high, valuable, momentous, dense, attract’ etc, basically the ‘energy which attracts’. Remember this is a sanskrit word used in the context of spiritual studies, so intention and layers and layers of meanings.

A school/college teacher is more properly an “adhyapak” in sanskrit. A school or college teacher should not be called a guru, it is an insult to the real Guru. Second these modern age “spiritual gurus” who are only interested in establishing “centers”, businesses, brand names and products. They cannot live without AC, wear really expensive clothes, use expensive vehicles and just talk. Use complicated words to baffle and awe their followers. This is just bad karma that they are creating for themselves. It is is the greatest act against the conscience to purposely deceive an aspirant who has a genuine interest in spirituality.

guru sakshat parabrahma

So who is the Guru? He is the Satguru. The one who shows you, brings you, attracts you to the Sat/Eternal Truth. And the real Sat is your own Self. That which you have been searching for so long is Yourself. And thus the only force who can bring you to yourself is …. Your Own Self.

Next this shlok, remember Sanskrit, layers of meanings, So this shlok more properly means this, “Brahmadev is the Guru, Vishnu is the Guru, Maheshwar is the Guru, the ‘witness to all’ Parabrahma is the Guru. And thus I bow down to such Guru.” Brahmadev, Vishnu, Maheshwar and the Parabrahma are the energies which bring you to the Truth/Sat, bring you to Yourself. Thus it makes sense.

The difference between these 2 meanings is like heaven and earth.

And my personal belief is that I really do not need someone in a physical body to be my Guru. I believe that there is a higher self within me. I am a tiny bit of the Parabrahma myself and this tiny bit is my conscience/Antaratma. If I let my conscience be my Guru, it will take me to Myself. But living in this world of so many external influences, pushes and pulls, I have stopped hearing the voice of my conscience. So how do I hear Myself again? Only when I cut off these external voices and sit still.

Real Guru-s are quite rare in this world as only a Jivan mukt can be properly referred to as a Guru. These souls have experienced and transcended the Game of creation and have realised the Ultimate. They have achieved Moksh.

So to begin with, do start your spiritual practice, and practice sitting still. Your conscience will speak to you again and a day will come when you will start following your conscience. That is the power of Sat, your own.

Now listen to this Guru stotra by Uma Mohan which defines in even more details what a Guru actually is! I have written out the meaning of this Guru Stotra in a full-fledged post here.

Amrit Sukta happens when you do Dhyan

The body is electromagnetic, the energy cores of the body are the six chakras in the spine and the 6 chakras in the head, vertices which power the system through the naadis (electrical wires!) and the electricity is called “prana“. There are 5 main types of pranic energies of which 2 are the most important. In an average human the naadi grid system, the chakra powerstations and the prana electricity itself is in a very sorry state of affairs. The primary reason for this is that we do not breathe properly. Surprised? Two reasons,

  1. Our breathing has become dependant on our emotional state, and just look at the range of emotions we go through in an average day. So breathing is highly compromised
  2. We are not aware of our breathing. It has become so mechanical that we really do not pay attention to our breathing.

Amrit Sukta happens when you do Dhyan

Breathing is just not the physical act of taking in air and then pushing out that air. Breathing is actually the action of 2 types of electricities, Prana which enters the body with energies from the universe and apan which sends out energies which are not needed from the body. If you ever learn to “see” your naadis and the prana energy moving through them you can observe the energy from the universe, first enters the body with the indrawn breath at the ajnya chakra, third eye. The seat of consciousness of at the ajnya chakra. After this the prana gets distributed throughout the body.

This brings me to my favourite sukta, Amrit Sukta from the Rig veda. This is also recited as Rudra Laghu Nyasa. Uma Mohan has recited the Rudra Laghu nyasa and Rattan Mohan Sharma has chanted just the Amrit sukta. Both renditions are exceptionally beautiful, do listen to them sometime, it touches your soul. I have listened to them both for hours and hours on a loop. It does induce a trance, a light meditative state, it is very enjoyable.

May the (prana) life force move towards the Intention (Aakut)

May the Universal energies increase the strings/vibrations/rays (Rashmi)

And remain within the guardian (Gopa) of the Non-death (Amrit)

This is a very inadequate translation. Devbhasha Samskritam cannot be translated into other languages, because there are no corresponding words and the real meaning of sanskrit words involves intention too. I do not translate sanskrit mantras/suktas ever, because they can never understood intellectually. These have to be felt and experienced. Still because this is the sukta which describes the movement of the energies necessary if we are to realise moksha, raise the kundalini/attain perfect knowledge, I tried to translate it.

(I use the website spokensanskrit.org for the meanings because it gives multiple meanings for the sanskrit words)

Amrit Sukta happens when you do Dhyan

And this movement of energy happens only when you are the Dhyan state when all the pran has been withdrawn from all the other naadis of the bodies and now moves only inside the shushumna naadi.

In this state of deep dhyan the breathing movement of the body stops, no air is exchanged. The prana directly enter the ajnya chakra/hrudaya. The ajnya chakra does not allocate this vital life force for bodily functions and organs of sense and action etc. The body may seem dead physically. This state is when samadhi can occur.

It is also interesting that when we are sleeping, the ajnya chakra sends the prana energy to the top of the head, the dashangula sthana. Deep Sleep is a highly mysterious state which our scientists are trying to map with brainwaves and stuff. If they learn to see the prana flowing along the naadis all their research will be complete.

And you can also learn to observe this high energy drama going on inside your own bodies, start by learning to see aura first, then try to observe the movements of the chakras in the palms, then the chakras and the naadis. It requires regular practice that is all.

There are so many mysteries inside your own self, so much to know and experience.

I really wonder how we humans can waste our time seeking temporary stuff on the outside when the inner world is so enormous, so extraordinary..

Cards anyone? Cartomancy and Tarot

Lets learn something fun today. Cartomancy! Specifically how to set up your very own Lenormand card set and use it. Of all the card sets and Tarot sets that I have worked with, Lenormand is a practical and a fun way of divination. No kaballah, no esoteric stuff, no high level words, just plain simple questions and answers. And it is a way of accessing the information hidden inside your own subconscious, a good way of listening to your own self.

Now straight on to the practical stuff.

You can make this card set at home. I think for most of you this will be your first card deck. It is just so exciting to make your own stuff because they then pick up your energy and really become your own.

Cards anyone? Cartomancy and Tarot

Buy a deck of normal playing cards and separate the following 36 cards, write their card names on the playing card using a permanent marker. I have also mentioned a few important keywords for each card. The keywords are quite logical too, eg “child” may actually mean a child, innocence, inexperience, trusting person, small issue, playful person, all the things that we actually associate with a child. So remembering the keywords should not be very difficult.

  1. 9 of hearts is “Rider” – short journey, young energetic man, speed, messages

lenornmandsprayset

In the Lenormand system, the name of the card is everything, the pictures of the cards have no divinatory meanings as such. The cards are read in pairs and sequences like a sentence. The cards have the same meaning upright or reversed. If you would like a short cut and not learn the above keywords then use the card combination meanings from this site.

Now to to play with your subconscious and your first card deck. Shuffle the cards and focus on a question, eg, “How is my day going to be today”. When you feel like it, stop shuffling and spread the cards out in a fan, with your non-dominant hand pull out 5 cards, lay them face down in a line as you pull them out and then turn them together.

Suppose you get this sequence “clouds scythe rider bear birds”. One interpretation of this could be “cloudy day” “cut sharply” “young man” “food” “conversations”, and it gets fulfilled as your day does not look so promising, confused, then suddenly the doubts get resolved, your boyfriend suddenly turns up and you eat food and talk together. The central card is the focus card around which the interpretation revolves.

Another example, “How is this new guy I met today for me?”, and you get “fox, tower, clover, man, mountain”, so one interpretation can be, “career/business” “office building” “small luck/gamble” “the young man in the question himself” “obstacle”. So you may think he would be a little bit lucky for your business establishment but in the end he will be a obstacle.

So you see for your first deck the Lenormand is perfect. Practical questions with practical answers. Right now you are on baby steps, trying to work around with cards. But Lenormand is definitely not a baby system, there are other spreads and ways to work with it, it is quite powerful and sometimes its answers will amaze you. As you learn the to interpret and learn to put meanings together you can use this system to its full potential.

Even later when you wish to experiment with self discovery, you should really try out Tarot, i.e. Thoth, Raider-Waite or Marseillus decks.

thoth

raider waite

marseillus

I do consider cartomancy as one of the easiest and safest means to start accessing you subconscious. The answers do not come by “magic” but from your internal higher self, the cards are the tools, the medium, the “magic” is you, your own self.

So as a to-do.

Ask the cards this one question everyday, “How is my day going to be”.  Note the combinations in your diary and tally at the end of the day, how accurate they were and how good was your interpretation. Do this for 21 days at least before trying out the other spreads and stuff.

And all the best for your first step into divination.

Can babies see auras?

Our bodies are electromagnetic and this is proved beyond doubt by kirlean photography. Our electric field is powered by the 7 energy vertices located inside the chitrini nadi, inside the vajrini nadi inside the shushumna nadi, located along our spine. The vital energy/praan flows along channels called naadis in Sanskrit. There are minor chakras located in the palms and the soles of the feet which we can sense sometimes as a whirring feeling.

So this layer of electricity which projects beyond the boundaries of the physical body is called the aura. The aura is composed of energies derived from the 7 separate energy vortexes/chakra which spin at different energies. Thus the composite of these 7 can have all colors varying from white/gold to brown/black depending on which chakra is the dominant. A sage will have white-gold aura while a criminal will have a muddy aura.

And as with electrical charges, repulsion/attraction takes place among auras of individuals. People whose auras are compatible like being physically close to each other and people with repelling auras prefer keeping a social distance between them. In very crowded buses/trains where everyone sort of sticks to each other, it can be hell for someone of very clean aura energy. The lower level auras subconsciously request the higher level person to help them and he does it by depleting his own energy reserves. Dead bodies have no aura thus we feel uncomfortable as there is no interaction on the aura levels.

So what is this got to do with babies? Babies can see auras clearly. In fact babies eyes are unfocussed and they tend to focus/unfocus around you rather than at you, this is because they are observing the auras. They can see ‘colors’ of your voice, your thoughts! Babies are highly vulnerable and auras never lie so it is safer for them to interact with others using auras as a guide. And in my personal opinion, babies are still on the border of the supernatural and mundane life. Especially babies who are still exclusively on their mother’s milk have no ego. Their sense of “me” has not developed, they are still unformed in a way and have access to other subtler sources of information. So in India, very young babies are not taken out of the house, to strange houses/ places, to protect them.

Can babies see auras?

Learn to see auras (step-wise post here). Just remember you could see auras as a child and then gradually forgot to see. Seeing auras is very easy like re-learning to ride a cycle. If you want to see auras with your open eyes, remember that you will have to pay attention to your peripheral vision, let your eyes unfocus. With open eyes the aura is seen densest at the shoulder/neck area and your conscious mind is working for you. If you want to “see” auras with your eyes closed it is even more easier. You close your eyes and ‘think’ of the person, a color or a name of a color may flash in your mind. Here you have made your subconscious mind to work for you. On bare skin, interactions of auras is felt as a warm or cold sensation, your hair stands on end if a negative energy is near you! Sometimes you ‘smell’ auras, your nose tells you that some person is smelling ‘good’ or ‘bad’. Sometimes you get a ‘taste’ for no reason, ‘metallic tastes’ indicate negative energy auras.

Back to the aura and babies, small children, till they are sent to school and till they ruin their extra-vision by focussing on mobile and TV screens, can see auras. In schools, the children are forced to focus their eyes and look only at what is in their direct vision. So they gradually forget seeing out of their peripheral vision. Also small children are not aware that they are doing something different, it is routine for them, so they never mention and we adults never ask. If you want to really check if this is true, ask a 2-3 year old child (who doesn’t watch too much TV/mobile screens) “what color am I?” and be prepared to hear a really fantastic answer, from blue to pink to yellow to red! But if you do make a child conscious about this ability, please remember that now you have a responsibility too. Because small children can see everything that has an aura, which includes spirits/pretatmas and other undesirables. Generally these spirits do not bother with humans, but if they realise that some human is aware of their presence and can see them then you have had it. They will not leave you, and this is how children get their childhood “imaginary friends”. There is nothing imaginary about them and they are certainly not friends.A incident, last year.

One of my client’s mother died, he went with his family including a 4yr old son to his native place, completed the anteyshti/cremation by fire, and 13th day tarpan/funeral rituals and came back. All routine. But then his house suddenly became “heavier”, random thuds and wind inside the house got him all concerned. So I and my brother went over to his house, The house was full of black energy, with shapes flying around. We went in and noticed the 4yr old talking animatedly alone in a room. He saw us and came to talk to us. He told us that he was talking to “chhota bhim” (cartoon character) and that it was a secret. So we talked some more till the entire storyline became clear to us.

At the 13th day tarpan/funeral rites, the pandit calls all the departed spirits from the family for taking their share of the pinda/funeral offerings. This incompetent pandit did call them but could not send them back. So they were lingering around. Our 4yr old could see them and he recognised his dead grandmother and they talked. Then the others joined and even more randomly roaming spirits realised here was someone alive who could interact. So they all became friends and asked permission to go with him. As they then looked like cartoon characters (pretatmas/spirits can change shapes to suit/soothe the victim) he said ok. And they all came to his house in the city. This incident was quite a shock and then it was a terrible clean up process because we had to send every single spirit away, to clean up the black energies, set up guards so they couldnt come back and to counsel an innocent 4yr old about talking to “strangers” and inviting them home.

A note of caution again, if you choose to work with energy remember that all energies are not clean and safe, there are evil and very strange things going on too. But working with energies is also very liberating and you can help your own self better. Its just like learning to drive a bike, you wont get on without your helmet would you? So here your spiritual practice and your tools from reiki, black threads, mantra, salt, lemons to amulets are your helmets. Suit up and practice something new. Well, not so new as you could do it when you were a child, it is just that you have forgotten. All of us, as babies and young children, could see the astral dimension with our eyes! So today, make an attempt at seeing auras again.

Make your very own amulet

Objects of power have always been around from Alladin’s magic lamp with a genie to Harry potter’s wand with a phoenix feather. Black magic practitioners use mirrors in which hapless pretatmas are trapped. And the really mean ones actively contract with higher level negative entities who can be linked by gold/gems/bones and other stuff. And if you know how, even tattoos can be charged with mantras and using special inks inked on your body to make your body an object of power.

Our Indian sages preferred using water charged with mantras for doing”magic” and you can use Vibhuti to make your personal object of power for protection. In my past posts, I have described how to perform a homam (sacred fire ritual) as a astrological planetary remedy. The homam yields highly charged Vibhuti/ash which can be stuffed inside an amulet and worn as a protective jewellery.

You can buy such amulets in your local Indian jewellery shop. When you bring it home, wash it in clean water and keep it beside you as you do your homam. You will set up the amulet after you have done the homam, do not speak anything else as after you finish your recitation, sit in a contemplative pose and after the ash has cooled sufficiently, stuff sufficient quantity of the vibhuti/ash inside a silver amulet (pictures above). Use a bit of melted wax to seal the amulet watertight. You can wear such an amulet around your neck in a pretty chain or around your bicep. This was your basic planetary remedy Vibhuti talisman.

An added extra would be if you can lay your hands on birchwood bark (bhojpatra), twigs of the pomogranate tree, saffron(kesar) and a small silver plate. These things are generally available in puja material stores in India.

Before the homam, sharpen the end of the twig, dissolve the kesar strands in a drop of water and cut out a tiny piece of the bhojpatra which can be rolled and fit into your amulet. Keep these ready in front of you while you perform the homam. Then when you finish reciting all the mantras, dip the twig point in kesar and using it as an ink write just the mantra which you have chanted 108 times in Sanskrit script on the bhojpatra carefully. Just one change would be to replace the “swaha” at the end with “namah”.

When you finish writing, blow thrice on the bhojpatra and fold it without tearing and stuff it inside the amulet. Fill the remaining space in the amulet with the Vibhuti and seal the amulet shut. See, its so easy, you just made for yourself your own personal talisman and as you have made it for yourself it will be much more effective that what an professional astrologer would have made. When you wear it you will always be carrying around, and being recharged by the energies that you have invoked during the homam.

If you want to use more powerful mantras for protection in your amulet, This is what you do. Follow the homam preparatory phase as per my earlier post on how to perform a homam (sacred fire ritual) Then for the second phase use a the Chamunda mantra. This is how to invoke it.

  1. After the preparatory phase mantras are done, recite the Devi Gayatri, “Om devyyai Brahmandaiyyi vidhmahe, Mahatshaktaiyyi cha dhimahi tanno devi prachodayat Om”
  2. Then recite the siddhakunjika stotra from Devi Mahatmya (Durga Saptashati) once. Whenever you say “swaha” drop a few drops of ghee into the agni/fire.
  3. Then say the navavarana mantra, “ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे स्वाहा” 108 times. With each swaha drop a drop of ghee in the fire.
  4. After you finish the 108 repetitions, recite “Om” once.
  5. Finish by reciting “Om Shri Paradevata arpanmastu”

Make the amulet with the vibhuti and the bhojpatra (write “ॐ ऐं ह्रीं क्लीं चामुण्डायै विच्चे” on the bhojpatra) as above and you have made yourself a very very powerful amulet which you can use for ever if you seal it tightly and properly.

Amulets generally do not exhaust their store of energy, but in case you are faced with severe negativity the amulet may get exhausted and break open on its own. In such a case discard the entire thing in running water/stream/sea or if that is not possible bury it in some isolated place.

If you have learnt how to see auras, the aura of the amulets you have just made will be white-gold and when you wear it, this white-gold mixes with your body’s overall aura increasing its overall positivity and adding protection. It is really beautiful like watercolours merging. In fact everyone should really learn to see auras, it is quite useful.
